Burying your head in the sand about the need for roads is rdidculous and seems to be rampant in South Florida. The fact is that nearly 70,000 people have access to the world via three roadways, Northlake and Royal Palm Beach, and Okeechobee Blvd. That is the same population as sizeable towns such as Youngstown, Ohio; Greenville, SC; Billings, MT and Waterbury, CT. Could you imagine if these towns only had three entrances? GRIDLOCK. As for the three standard (and very lame) claims used against every form of development infrastructure development environmental degredation, safety (the CHILDREN!!!) and crime (you mean THOSE people) , when has there been a truck spill on Northlake Blvd where it crosses WPB’s water supply west of the Bee Line; When was the last time you saw children playing in a County road? (or generally outside an SUV); when have you ever heard of truck loads of criminals hauling off booty back to Riviera Beach on these newly paved avenues to crime? GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!

Instead of adding more houses to the suburbs, build the downtown core. Let city people live in the city, and suburban people live in the suburbs, its better as you dont need more roads (“city” roads are already built, and, people can walk to work too) I.E. PLAN the growth of S. Florida!

Get rid of 20 million illegal immigrants who drive on our roads with no license or insurance and the roads would not be so congested and new roads or extensions would not be needed problem solved

I am with Joe and a few others who applaud the road extension.

Not everyone likes change but with the growth the western communities have had over the past 5-6 years something had to be done to allieviate the congestion.

What should stop are the large housing developments no one can afford.

Don’t be angry with the county or the DOT. They are trying to create a better flow so everyone can get around without spending hours on the road or havng to go all around the world to get to school or work because the western communities are cut off from the main sections of the county.

Embrace the change. It will save you gas money. Stop voting for new communities and enjoy the greenscapes.

Anytime you run busy traffic through residential it spells disaster. My first thought is the safety of the reisdents, especially the kids. Then the other factor….accesibility for criminal behavior. Just another easy way to get in and out of Royal Palm.

They need to CUT SPENDING TAXPAYER MONEY…so either they should not extend the road now or use the cheapest route.

I think the extension is a great idea. Maybe it could have benn designed a little better but overall it will relieve traffic on Okeechobee, Northlake & Royal Palm Beach Blvd. And for the people that are against it (IBIS Snobs), when it it complete, they should not be allowed to use it. Give them traffic tickets for traveling on a road that they were against having! Just like the people who lived close to and who petitioned the new Publix (orange & Seminole Pratt) years ago. I bet they get good use out of that shopping center. These people need to find a hobby in their lives and get a life!!!

Build with all the propossed intersections and without the 90 degree turn or don’t built it at all. Expand seminole pratt and royal palm to two lanes thru the acreage. Its 2007, more cars, need more roads, ITS SIMPLE.

SR7 should be on the range line with other roads from the acreage connecting to it. This would relax the traffic on royal palm beach blvd. and coconut blvd 1000 percent. Why is IBIS so special? If that were my house in the way, it would have already been a done deal. Will the corruption ever stop? Greed will be the donefall of this country.

I am all for the extension, no matter how many turns it takes. I am tired of the Acreage people complaining that they don’t want traffic dumping into their streets, yet they couldn’t care less about how much traffic they are dumping onto RPB streets. Our kids are always at risk, so they can have their quiet rural roads. The vacation is over, it’s time for them to come to reality. We need roads. Okeechobee Blvd is almost impassible even on the weekends. I would love to be the first one to drive the new extension.

I am not a road expert but anyone with a brain can see that the proposed plan is the worst design and will be a danger for drivers.

Speaking of danger what happens when a truck has spill and it runs into the water preserve? Who will want to drink the water then..

I guess those that want this badly designed road don’t care about the dangers…

It should go straight through without the 2 zigzags as originally planned for over 20 years now. Putting a 90 degree turn and intersection will only create another traffic jam.

as an 11 year resident if royal palm beach, i can applaud the extension of SR7. I am personally sick of the 45minutes drive down OkeechobeeRd gthata i make twice daily. With this extension my drive will cut to a few minutes. Royal Palm Beach Blvd is an over crowded road that is handling more vehicles then it was designed for. This will alsorelieve the over crowding on Okeechobee Rd at night, which will make the 45 minute drive from SR7 to RPB blvd be cut down to less then half what it is now. You all crticize the plans, and complain about how long it takes yo uto get to work, and how much money yo uhave to spend on gas. Well guess what, with this plan, your vehicle will be moving, instead of in stop and go traffic, thereby improving your gas mileage as well as cutting your driving time in half because you wont be sittin gin a traffic jam that you created

Michelle Damone is Masilotti’s stooge. Now she’s got her croanies on the board with her and she’s got the audacity to say, “it’s all about safety?!”. It’s all about her getting money in her pocket for Nat’s developemnt to get concurrency. What happened to sticking up for the property rights of the Acreage people!? She’s a joke and she needs to resign. I can’t believe that the board doesn’t have the balls to vote her off the presidency.

The “reliever road” is nothing more than a Masilotti payback to Minto homes as well as the development of that parcel that was slated to be our “preserve” in perpetuity. Without that massive clear-cut project, SR-7 should have gone where it belongs…on the RANGELINE! There has never been ANY engineering or environmental data to support this reliever road alignment. It’s purely political and it’s a shame that we have to live in such a world. this alignment was approved by the commission to make the Acreage people so angry that they would vote out Tony. Now that he’s gone…let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water. We need to clean this area up. Leave the west leg for a private Minto entrance, keep it on the rangeline and don’t cut ANY roads into the Acreage. With the new SR-7 rangeline, we won’t get the cut through traffic and we won’t need another connection. Also, keep the connections from enabling western developers from road concurrency. They can develop at 1 in 10 like they are currently zoned. Beatrice knows the truth…she’s probably bribed as well.

This zigzag SR7 is an old idea of Masilotti. Any plans involving that man should be looked into using a fine tooth comb. How’d he benefit from this extension? Does it have anything to do with the new development MINTO is building near Target? The whole land swap deal had EVERYTHING to do with Minto.
What happened to the original SR7 plans??

Two 90 degree turns to get around Ibis?? Now I’m no traffic engineer, but seems like a tough way to route four lanes smoothly in a north/south direction…

As a Loxahatchee resident who works regularly in Martin and St Lucie Counties, the extension of Seminole Pratt Whitney north to Beeline makes sense. SPW already exists from Beeline north to SR 76 in Martin Co. If this were built, I’d be one less car having to crawl east on Northlake to get to the Beeline to SPW. And while we’re at it, let’s raise the speed limit to 45 MPH on Okeechobee Bl in Royal Palm Beach! I’m sick of the six lane boulevard, through commercial areas governed by signals, being kept artificially slow, just to raise revenue for RPB. Locals know they have to slam on their brakes when entering RPB city limits just to avoid the PBCo sheriffs that lie in wait to collect their salaries. Raise the speed limit to what the road is designed to handle!

Bulldoze and pave everything west of I-95. Don’t paint any stripes, and don’t post any speed limits. Oh yeah, and tax everyone east of I-95 three times more. Trees? Just bulldoze them. We can buy new ones that will take 20 years to grow. By then they may be tall enough to cut down.

What about University and Riverside Drive in west Boca?

By Val

June 3, 2007 10:12 PM | Link to this

Something needs to be done. Roads in the western area are a joke. I can’t believe Sem Pratt is still a two lane road in 2007. Where is all our tax money being spent? The unincorporated areas are the last place to get it, that is for sure.

it needs to be built ASAP - and it is OK to go along Ibis since there is extra right of way there
