Rock Star: Build Me Up, Tommy Lee baby...

tommy lee.jpeg

...just to let me down, you heartless tattooed heathen.

I am stunned...STUNNED....by the Rock Star: Superhoodlum elimination of Ryan Star, a singer I initially had no use for but who grew as a performer and grew on the audience, the judges and his fellow rock-ettes. Tommy "Sexual Harrassment Suit Waiting To Happen" Lee all but said so last night - right before he booted the shocked Star back to New York.

And, hopefully, back to enjoy a successful solo career that will knock a couple of Supernova singles off the charts, because there's only one other person they could pick with equal vocal ability and charm. That's Iceland's own Magni. Everybody else - especially other bottom finalists Storm and Dilana - has sort of stagnated.

Storm072006.jpg

Well, that's not true - Storm, while the hottest contestant ever, never really got off the ground vocally and seems to be resisting booting by the sheer force of her intergalactic oomph.

Lukas was always an annoying little elf.

dilana.jpeg

Dilana, my original favorite, has become an egotistical diva biscuit.

rand_narrowweb__300x423,2.jpg

And I'm always forgetting that the admittedly talented Toby Rand is there. It's not him - it's me. I'm so consumed with loving Ryan and disliking Elfy McRockerson that he sometimes gets left behind. Toby, I'm sorry, In fact, if Magni doesn't win, I'd like you to because you rock. Just not as much as Ryan does.

What I don't get is that Tomnmy Lee actually said that no one else has grown like Ryan, that he's an amazing singer and takes seriously everything he does, Tommy has all but admitted that they're holding on to certain other people for reasons other than their growth as singers. Maybe it's because they're hot (Storm) or drama mamas (Dilana, who I want to love again.)

(Please do something to let me love you again.)

So I'm mad at Rockstar right now. I'll get over it. No one's even making me watch this stupid show, so there's no point even being mad.

What do you guys think?

Tommy looked a bit stunned when the audience booed Ryan's booting so loudly. It almost looked like he wanted to take it back and announce change his mind.

TOP SECRET RELEASED TOBY RAND HAS WON ROCK STAR

Posted by: Jim Z. at August 31, 2006 12:29 AM

OK, I am a bit stunned myself that Ryan got kicked off too,he was the one who did grow the most and come a long way and that Storm is still there, is absolutely crazy, however, either you are all smoking a little too much, but if you think that Dilana is not the best and that she is not worthy you are out of your minds and my faith in my fellow coutrymen has gone down the toilet. If Supernoval goes with anyone other then Dilana the band won't go ver far, however, if they choose Dilana it will be a band. As far as last week goes, don't confuse ego with confidence. Even all the rockers on the show say that she is the most straight up. Everyone makes mistakes. Get over Ryan, although he was very good, he wasn't right for Supernova and at the end of the Day Supernoval will just be a stepping stone for Dilana if she wins. Anybody else will fizzle much like the band intself will. Nobody else there other then perhaps Lukas has star power, but Lukas is not right for that sort of band...

Dilana is a goofball. I'm sorry but it's the truth. Gilby said on the supernova site that they wanted to bring back stadium rock shows. Great! You won't have a great show like you would have with Ryan. Maybe Toby. But Dilana, hell no. And really, I've been a fan of Tommy and Jason for a LOOOOOONG time, Supernova sounds like rebaked 80's..at least the songs they've put out. I hope they do great, but it's not looking great for them right now.

Arrgh I didnt know as it airs a night later in Oz. That bites, Storm should have gone.

Posted by: Ems at August 31, 2006 2:37 AM

Mr. Bennett claims he likes that pert Miss Large when she starts talking about getting a right "spanking"from Master Lee.

Filthy old man.

I say someone needs to tell the strumpet the corset goes on the INSIDE of one's dress.

Young master Star reminds me of a certain clergyman I could name. A bit too full of himself for his own good. And not much of a singer, dear. I fear you are mistaken in that assessment.

Leave the singing to Master Magni. The only true warbler of the bunch.

Goodness gracious, it's late!

Posted by: Mrs. Bennett at August 31, 2006 3:11 AM

Ryan was the most talented and is probably better off without Supernova...their orignials were half as good as Ryans.

Posted by: Craig Monroe at August 31, 2006 8:29 AM

I could not agree with you more, you said EVERYTHING that was in my brain!!

Posted by: Steph at August 31, 2006 9:02 AM

Ms Streeter...you covered this storey almost as poorly as you covered the last DMB concert...stay away from your "personal opinion" and try covering by using a professional approach...let us see what a real writer can do. Use the facts and any basic musical knowledge that you may have to write something with a little more depth.

Posted by: Theo at August 31, 2006 9:03 AM

I just wish that we got a better exlanation of WHY Ryan was booted off the show...we were all left hanging. Ryan will do just fine without them though, honestly.

Posted by: Tracy at August 31, 2006 9:09 AM

Ryan Star is the best singer among the group, he has the energy, he has the charisma and he is the one who is making rockstar a must see show. I think that Tommy Lee just loves to make out with that pretty face Storm Large, I thought that Tommy has changed but it looks like he has still that crap attitude. My final message to rockstar supernova is if you pick Storm among the 4 remaining guys your band will suck!!!!

Theo:
A blog is about opinion. And I did talk about Ryan's musicality and his growth. And check it: I didn't cover the last Dave Matthews Band show. I was on vacation in South Carolina. If you don't like my writing, great. But it doesn't look like I'm the one who has to get my facts straight.

(I did, by the way, write a preview of the DMB show in which I spoke in plain musical terms about why I liked his style and his obvious influences.)

Thanks for reading!

I KNEW FROM DAY ONE RYAN WAS AND IS TO GOOD FOR THAT BAND.

Posted by: BESS at August 31, 2006 10:00 AM

Hi-my neighbor and I love watching the show-Rockstar-not into too many other reality shows-we love the singing. As to Ryan-found him a little bit "too much" swinging of the chandaliers next"-not naturally cool enough. voice a little bit forced. Oh well each to our own views-Hope Dilana gets off the "poor me" kick and gets back to strutting her stuff.

Posted by: Marion at August 31, 2006 12:28 PM

Ms. Streeter-

Your coverage of the recent Dave Matthews Band concert was, I must agree, attrocious. I know you didn't attend it, and neither did I for that matter, but I sense on a deep and profound level that you did indeed cover the concert poorly.

Some people will chide my criticism as being "erroneous" and not based on "fact", but I must stand by it nonetheless, even if I just made it up. In the future, please consider restricting your comments on concerts you did not attend, nor write about, to simple and preferably single-syllabic praise. Thank you.

Posted by: Ike at August 31, 2006 1:26 PM

Ms. Streeter

Now you are going to stoop to the level of trying to defend yourself by blantantly bashing a reader of the PB Post?? Shame shame...Why the defense???

Clearly in the article that you attempted to write...you said that the people could not understand why you were "working on your laptop during such a great concert...

How easily we forget the minor details ... My comment and personal opinions were meant to be used to inform you of what a lot of the readers of the PB Post think of the wasted space in which you are given to "express yourself", but given your rude and unprofessional response....it is clear to what type of human being we are dealing with...

Theo:

Sigh.

It was not a defense, but a clarification. I think you are missing the point - that story was a preview of the show, in which I referenced the review I'd written the year before. In 2005. Not the last show you refer to, the 2006 show, which I did not attend. My 2005 review, actually, was full of musical reasons for liking the show. And that is a fact.

I was setting you straight on the timeline and clarifying the difference between a review (which is opinion using fact to support it) and a commentary (again, opinion using fact to support it.)

Pointing that out, and clarifying the point that you seem to misunderstand, is not bashing you. Disagreeing with you is not bashing you. Critics present their opinions, back them up with explanations and understand that they are not always going to be agreed with or welcomed. Other than that, I can't help how my writing is received or considered. But I can point out when I think there is a misunderstanding in how you came to your opinion.

Now, if you just generally dislike my writing, well...I can't do anything about that.

Thanks!

After listening to Tommy's "speech" regarding Ryan's departure, I couldn't help but be left confused. Ryan has been a strong performer since the get-go. Personally, I really thought Storm was heading out the door, especially after her performance last night as well, with Dilana and her prior antics; SuperNova should think twice about having such a drama queen on board...

Peace

Posted by: Theo at August 31, 2006 3:25 PM

It was indeed odd the way they praised him just to send him packing, but IIRC he was the only one of them who had been in the bottom three before. If so, then I am surprised they didn't mention that to help backup their decision. But I wasn't much of a fan anyway.

I think Dilana will rise again. She was such the front-runner that I think the editors seized upon it to create melodramatic filler and try to make it interesting.

Posted by: Mimi at August 31, 2006 3:48 PM

Even if Dilana is chosen, she will sink like a rock. She is horrible, have another ciggy why don't you?

She is not right for a band that wants lots of groupies, and Tommy Lee definitely likes his groupies.

Toby or Lukas will win...watch and see :)

Posted by: kim at August 31, 2006 7:18 PM

Dilana is gonna win. Shes got an awesome voice. her stage presence is megnificent. and shes done nothing but improved threw the weeks.
So she had a breakdown, any sane person in her shoes would. Everyone makes mistakes. Hers wasnt even really that big. What she said everyone alse was thinking. Im surprised they made a big deal about it. Shes got a very unique voice and could make Supernova more than just a band..

Storm cant hit the right notes 80% of the time and Magni doesnt seem to have improved at all. he still sounds the same to me from the begining.

to tell the truith i was surprised it was ryan that got kicked intstead of storm.

Posted by: Kisses at August 31, 2006 9:33 PM

hey supernova
i would have to say i LOVE yea band heaps...xoxo
my 2 fav singers would have to be Dilana and Lukas, they are jus kickin ass at the moment well the have since they got on the show... anyway good lock everone...
love you all Deannah

Posted by: Deannah Marshall at September 1, 2006 5:18 AM

Oh my, listen to all the ranting over Ryan's booting...Ryan was always so sad looking, almost as though he was truely depressed...or high! He was never a comfortable preformer unless he was behind the Ivory Keys! He always seemed to second guess the moves he was making...and when he climbed upon the amplifiers I thought I was going to die laughing, or in the same preformance when he shoved away the bench to climb upon the Grand piano! Or how about an earlier show where the SuperNova boys told Magni he should have smashed his guitar....and next thing Ryan does is gracefully (NOT) toss his guitar across the stage...what a joke. He needs to stay behind the Ivory Keys where he is comfortable!

Posted by: LMAO at September 2, 2006 12:15 AM

I suspect Ryan was eliminated to clear the way for Supernova's preferred singer. Ryan was talented no doubt but was obviously straining for effect alwys (except behind the piano). There's a good singer there but inexperienced. I just don't think any band would choose a singer who can't dance. Dilana does that short chick things of turning herseld into a little ball of whriling energy (and those silly kicks she does) and wuite frankly tell me any successful singer who acts like that. I had a friend in high school who danced like that and...well. Storm is improving but also can't really dance. Magni struts but is always just Magni (solid). Lucas is really good sometimes but is also struggling. Toby will win as he's a seasoned performer (yes a tad cliched for sure). Remember that Supernova's record producer was on hand the first show to comment and he commended Toby's voice. Toby's is not greatest voice (but some of the best voices went early on). Also Toby can write songs, is a team player (big drinker), and is loved by the girls and the guys'll dig him ok. And in the end Toby has that slightly schonky ability to work a crowd. Like Robbie Williams has to. And as Robbie said "it's all showbiz". I mean that's the only way we can excuse Dave Navaro's nipples isn't it.
