"American Idols Live!": The Aftermath!

I wrote a fun review of last night's "American Idols Live" show at BankAtlantic Center, that gave the overall flavor of the festivities. But with the magic of the Internet, I can expand on those things that didn't make it into the review. It'll be fun. Really.

Mandisa: The lovely Mandisa set the stage for some truly hideous eye makeup on various Idol finalists, including Lisa Tucker, about whom we will talk later. (Hurry back!)

Despite her rhinestone eye makeup, Mandisa sang beautifully, and had a clear connection with the crowd. Given the controversy in which she was involved during the season when she sang a gospel song, and then discussed her religiously-based views on homosexuality, it was interesting that she mentioned the "someone up there" who was a friend to all the young people with dreams that she dedicated "I Am Your Angel" to.

She took a chance alienating more people, I guess. But she and the song, sung with Little Ace, were well-received. I would gladly pay to see her.

Ace: So, so gorgeous. So, so cheesy. I enjoy his stage chops and his ability to hold a room. But he's so much better as part of an act, like his duet with Mandisa. He'd be the best part of a group. But still part of a group.

And note to the Idol people: "Father Figure" is a dark song about a complicated and somewhat obsessive relationship, that is not appropriate for "Let's all sing along and wave our hands with the kiddies!" moments. Please respect the parents who paid $75 for tickets by not making them have to explain what "to be warm and naked" means.

Bucky: Better for karaoke or for small, short performances. He's sweet and does a mean "Superstition" but can get boring after a while.

Kellie...did not sing. I'm leaving it there.

Lisa: Still bored with her. I really don't get her and wouldn't pay to see her solo. Don't get me wrong - she seems sweet, has a pleasant voice and smiles really pretty. But all in all, she is just singing songs. Not intepreting - just singing songs. And I can do that at karaoke.

Chris: Best. performer. Except. Taylor.

Elliott: Was shafted with only getting a few songs. This makes me mad. His "Israel' T-shirt got a lot of cheers, though.

Kat: I finally understand the big deal about her "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." There is such an unforced richness to her voice that you can't help but listening. That "Black Horse and The Cherry Tree" is still better when sung by K.T. Tunstall. but she's got such confident energy on stage. Good on her.

Taylor. My review is all about him. And here it is!

Group song: "We Are The Champions" is a bit twee to me but it showcased the tight harmony ability, and provided another chance to see Taylor.

Open to suggestions? Don't say: "Taylor. My review is all about him. Read it."

Either link to it on that last command, or tell us when it will be published.

Elliott Yamin came in third for a reason. His voice is beautiful, however he is never recognized for his talent. he should sing more songs with his style in solo. I think he can go places.
