Leslie Gray Streeter: One pretty boy down, one Pickler to go

One pretty boy down, one Pickler to go

acemusic.jpg

After weeks of wishing that Ace would be voted bye-bye, I'm relieved to see that we've finally seen that day. Yes, I know he was pretty. And I know I bear the wrath of fans like my buddy Beth, who is mad that Ace's booting means no more shots of his hotter brother sitting in the audience to cheer him on.

I never said that he was not talented, because he has a nice voice that perhaps can be used during the next boy band revival, or in some sort of fun Broadway show that makes fun of boy bands. And we all know that he's got a good sense of himself on-stage. He'd make a really good addition to a show about good-looking people, like the next time Rory needs a new boyfriend on "Gilmore Girls." And he'd be a great Calvin Klein model.

But none of these jobs, you might notice, involve standing on a stage by yourself and singing a song, where yours is the only voice. Because when he does that, he's boring. Not bad. But boring. And that's not good enough. Who cares if you're nice, if nobody wants to watch you...sing, that is?

And now that he's gone, we hold these truths to be self-evident, that Kellie Pickler's gotta go. She was not good Tuesday, but yet she was safe. Chris showed his true colors, shining through (and that's why we love him) and avoided completely rocking-up "What A Wonderful World." Still, he was nearly voted off.

You're joking, right?

She's gotta go. Now. Really.

couldn't agree more.I missed the shot of Paula crying her eyes out when the latest Constintine got voted off.The cream usually does reach the top however I fear that Little Miss Huh? has a big fan base which may carry her farther then she deserves.I don't think any of these contestents are that great. And when they talk about thier "fans" WTF????

Posted by: Art Vandelei at April 20, 2006 8:07 AM

I know! I'm always fascinated by the transformation that takes place in a few months, from being a little sweet hometown nobody to thanking your fans like you're at the People's Choice Awards.

Posted by: Leslie at April 20, 2006 8:40 AM

I'm disgusted Kellie is still there, Ace may not have been the greatest but at least he has vocal talent, he just needs more work.

Kellie's voice will never get better than we've seen. Sadly, the intruction the tenor gives next week will be wasted on Kellie, when it could've helped Ace tremendously.

I'll be muting the TV when she is on next week, I jsut can't take pickles anymore.

Posted by: me at April 20, 2006 9:40 AM

My favorite thing about contestants who get voted off is they say, "You haven't seen the last of me." Umm, yeah we have. Ace doesn't have a chance in hell of ever scoring any sort of deal. And is it just me, or is Ace's brother really, really annoying. His hair cut is exactly the same, and he stands up and goes absolutely insane after every one of Ace's performances. Ace could fart into the microphone and I think his brother would give him a standing ovation. Thank God that sleeveless, skull-cap wearing chump is gone. Who knows, though - those qualities might help Ace get some work touring with Nick Lache. They can call it the "No Sleeves, No Talent, No Problem" tour.

Posted by: Joe Mayo at April 20, 2006 10:54 AM

Actually we HAVEN'T see the last of Ace. He did just do a guest spot on Half and Half, it appears he CAN act, and also has a modeling career. I look forward to an album, I think with practice he'll improve, he just needs more training.

I feel sorry for you folks who hate people just because their good looking, it's so weird. Jealous much?

Posted by: me at April 20, 2006 11:15 AM

And why is it that fans can never imagine that someone would actually dislike someone they like, without being "jealous?" Why can't we just not like their singing? I don't have a problem with him being cute. I like that he's cute. Good for him, being cute. And like I said, he's not a bad singer. Just not good enough right now, compared to the other people he was singing against.

That's not jealousy. That's criticism.

Posted by: Leslie at April 20, 2006 11:25 AM

I am so glad the pretty boys gone, personally I felt he should of been booted before mandisa or bucky. pickler will go soon i hope

Posted by: MADELYN at April 20, 2006 11:28 AM

I simply enjoy the back & forth dialogue between us folks on here. And April, one guest appearance DOES NOT validate Ace as an actor, c'mon now. William Hung made guest appearances all over the place - can he act? Hell, I don't even know if he can even tie his shoes! I trust Ace can do that, though. In all honesty, it's easy to bust Ace because he brought foolishness upon himself, especially the scar routine. He went overboard with trying to be suave, and it was easy to see through it. His type of sex appeal would've been great 5 years ago when boy bands roamed the Earth. Either way, it was his time - if not last night, then this coming week. He and Pickler are in the same boat.

Posted by: Joe Mayo at April 20, 2006 11:39 AM

Ya'll are hatin for real. Yes, there is better singers on the show (katherine and Chris) but, to go as far as he wont get a deal is just stupid. If Britney spears can get millions by just being cute (not beautiful, but good body)and very mediocre vocals with no range, then ace will definatley go platinum. Solo and all.
Now may I remind you, over half the artist selling millions out there (ashley simpson) cant even sing live much less sound good. So lets keep it real and give Ace a break. If he comes out with a good album I'd buy it. All he needs is work on stage presence. He doesnt have far to go to get to platinum status. Plus he already has a following. Consider the man signed to a deal by the end of the week. Thank ya.

Posted by: tru_diva at April 20, 2006 11:51 AM

You're forgetting one thing, Tru Diva: Ashley Simpson and Britney Spears have what Ace doesn't - connections. Ashley Simpson is unquestionably a horrible singer, but her sister has so much power in the music industry that it doesn't matter. Her father is also an extremely powerful businessman in the industry as well. Britney had the Mickey Mouse club, and was known to be dating Timberlake - not to mention her ties to Lou Pearlman. Ace has none of those, and there hasn't been one Idol aside from Clay to sell platinum as even a second place winner! Bo's CD totally flopped, and for good reason - it sucks, big time. J Records molded Bo into a slow moving, acoustic guitar balladeer. If you think Ace will go platinum you're living in a fantasy world. Fantasia's debut album even sold minimally. And you think Ace, who left this early, is going to sell plat - people won't even remember him by the end of the show. Hell, I can't even remember who Carrie and Bo's competition were toward the end because the hype engulfed the two of them entirely. It's tough to even recall Ruben. Sorry, Diva - but a record deal is really not in Ace's future.

Posted by: Matt at April 20, 2006 12:04 PM

Yes kelly must go and next it must be taylor he is too goofy and neither can sing. katherine is the best

Posted by: sue at April 20, 2006 12:23 PM

I think that Ace shouldn't have gone home and i think that Kelly should have because Ace sang great and kelly messed up on her vocals. So i disagree with America on their choice of throwing Ace out.

Posted by: Jeanette at April 20, 2006 12:30 PM

Ah, if only Kellie Pickler were going next week. I think her fans are going to keep her in it until the end. Taylor's fans as well, and neither is as good as their fans imagine them to be.

Posted by: Leith at April 20, 2006 12:39 PM

I can't believe Chris wasn't voted off last night. He is sooooo not eye appealing, not to mention he doesn't sing, he screams and his song choices have sucked all through the show. I guess the American public was totally swayed by Simon's approval of him. Surely, he'll be removed next week!

Posted by: Avid fan at April 20, 2006 12:42 PM

Katherine McPhee should have gone since to category was to sing country, because she didn't sing country music nor did she song Queen Rock in that category. She has a nice voice, but I believe you shoukd sing what the category is. Because an Americal Idol to me is versatile, can sing anything.

Posted by: Angela Timposn-Pringle at April 20, 2006 12:44 PM

Ace will be a really great singer with more training. Plus, he could easily become a model. All of you haters, stop it! Ace is so HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pickler really should have gone.

Posted by: B at April 20, 2006 1:11 PM

Let Paris go please

Posted by: pam at April 20, 2006 1:19 PM

Ace was not the one who should have been voted off last night, it should have been Kelly Pickler, how much longer do we have to put up with her botching songs, she is not that talented, but she is being voted to stay, because she is cute. American Idol is about who can sing the best.Pickler needs to go. Ace would do great as a Model, TV Star, with more training he will do great as a Singer, he just was not ready to be the idol yet.

Posted by: Jan at April 20, 2006 1:39 PM

Ace's fans raised $2000 in his name for the Denver Children's Hospital where every Christmas for the past 7 years he sings on Christmas day with his brothers. He's the real deal and he will end up on top somewhere.

Posted by: Christi at April 20, 2006 2:03 PM

My friends and I put on a small acoustic set during my sophomore year of undergrad and helped raise $1,000 for a student who suffered an accident that rendered him paralyzed. The cafe we performed in seated 'MAYBE' 70-80 people. My point - BIG FRIGGIN' DEAL if Ace's "fans" raised $2,000. So what's that, like 200 fans? So OK, he puts out an album -- 200 fans are waiting for it -- that'd make him enough money to, oh I don't know, take care of one month's rent? Get it through your heads, you teenie-boppin' giddy 13 year olds - good looks aren't what matter in the music industry anymore. Clean-cut boy band types are yester-year's news, just like Ace. His voice is mediocre, his stage presence is a disaster and he'll be forgotten in a few weeks like all previous idol early-goers.

Posted by: Joseph at April 20, 2006 2:25 PM

I'm so glad that Ace went home last night. Kellie needs to go next. Yes she is very cute/sexy/hot but her blonde antics and country accent have got to go!!! We already have enough blonde ditzy singers/actresses out there.

Posted by: Jenny at April 20, 2006 2:31 PM

Seriously, anyone who actually believes that these people are legitimately being chosen by the callers is misled. I realized that when I attempted over 200 calls on and off during the 2 hour period for Clay Aiken - I didn't get through one single time! Then when they announced a few differing "final counts" - that was rediculous! Who couldn't see it was rigged?
Now to have Pickler staying on for so long? Come on - who's backing her? That "dumb blonde" routine is so sad - even more so because I don't think she's acting - I honestly think she's that dumb! And what some people think is cute and endearing, the rest of us just want to smack her upside the head to hear the ball bearings rattle! I don't think "dumb blonde" is cute! Besides, does anyone out there honestly think she could carry off an entire concert? Nooooooo.
If people cast their votes as an answer to the question, "Would you pay good money to buy a cd and listen in your car WITHOUT seeing this person, would you?", I think we would get a more accurate count in the end.

Posted by: Tired of it all at April 20, 2006 3:09 PM

Unfortunately, dumb and blonde seem to be the hot commodoties these days, judging by the fame of Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton. I heard a thirteen year old girl just the other day say that Paris Hilton was her hero.

I weep for the future.

Posted by: Margie at April 20, 2006 4:27 PM

It's not so much that we dislike someone that is good looking, but rather , some who thinks they are very good looking... And he's really not that good looking. The way he gazes into the camera & quivers his lips & things. Puulease.
Oh, when he showed us all the little scar on his chest, that one took the cake!

I have to agree with a previous poster about the validity of the public's votes actually picking the winnners.

Posted by: kurtis at April 20, 2006 5:35 PM

It's a relief to see others who realize that the annoying, silly, lame Kellie is just that--a put-on dumb blonde who would annoy the bark off a tree. I'm so sick of her drive for attention and her glaring lack of talent.
Taylor has class, but Katherine does, too, and she sings beautifully. What a difference in two young women--one totally classy (Katherine) and the other totally classless (Pickler).

I just got a really good laugh out of Joe Mayo's comments. Thanks! I'm also happy Ace is gone, and hope Pickles is next. I was very happy that Elliot was not in the bottom three this week. I hope he can stick around a lot longer. I think he deserves it...he's really growing on me!

I can't believe this is even being discussed. Chris is the obvious winner. His genre has not yet won the coveted title of being the next "American Idol". AI is so predicable. They knew they needed a white, alternative/rock, young male to win. They are looking for the next Creed/Live/Pearl Jam/3 Doors Down-type of singer. Mark my words....Chris wins this season. Next season we will be watching a Dave Matthews/Jack Johnson type win. Just my opinion.

Posted by: Lisa at April 20, 2006 6:58 PM

The only talent he seemed to have was making Paula drool. He should have been gone before this. He is too nausally when he sings and is really in love with himself. It just makes me sick to watch him. Pickler is making it through because fans feel for her grandfather who cries every week. Like my other half said, he would have voted for the pink dress alone.

Posted by: Deb at April 20, 2006 9:12 PM

I think Paula drools for other reasons - perhaps medical.

Posted by: Joe Mayo at April 21, 2006 12:09 PM

Just popped in to make sure no one was saying anything nice about Kellie. Thank you all.

Posted by: Tess at April 21, 2006 4:52 PM

Glad to see solidarity in the ranks! I also have been pretty accurate in predicting male/female, black/white final two the last few years in a row ever since the Clay fiasco. And where have the last couple of winners ended up? I've decided to start looking for them on the backs of milk cartons - lol!
Oh, and as far as last year's winner - I've always thought it funny that Simon went from describing her as sounding like "Donald Duck on helium" to praising her outrageously...then she wins? Who told him to start pumping her up? Isn't it pretty plain that somewhere along the line he "realized" or "discovered" she was going to win and decided he better start being nice so he wouldn't look like a fool when she won?

Ok picture this........... when you go to a concert, you go to be entertained, thrilled by the singer/band, the light show, etc, but most of all you want to hear your favorite song that you love (for whatever reason you love it). Come on...... look at some of the great singers and bands in history not all of them can sing by a long shot but you pay your money and go because you like being entertained and feeling the connection to 'them'.

I love Taylor for the basic facts that he entertains us when it's his turn, but I do think Chris is going to win, because he finally showed us he can do something besides rock songs and got to give him his props He Can Sing!
