American Idol" Dead. To. Me.

Irredeemable, that's what you are...

Follow the bouncing ball of bitterness, America, and you'll find it ringing off the hollow shell that is the part of my chest that housed my soul.

Because you killed it, America, killed it with your "American Idol" votes that went to everybody else in the competition but Mandisa, the fabulously full-voiced siren who was the best female singer in the whole thing.

Yeah, her Country Week selection was not good. Not at all. But then, so was Taylor "Son de Joe Cocker" Hicks. And Paris was shrieky. And Ace didn't stink like he usually does. Whoop-de-fricking-do.

Mandisa was, as Paula has said in her many loopy moments, good for this competition. She is scary talented, drop dead gorgeous and able to graciously take a verbal punch from a judge. Her bootee
singout was one of the most joyous ever because she wasn't gonna let those punks get her down.

I love her. Always will. I fear for this show. I still want Ryan and Simon to shut up and stop this weird
passive-aggressive word war they have, because it's stupid.

As for you, America...I feel nothing. I have nothing, as Whitney would say. Because you are still dead to me, and I don't have to feel anything for ghosts.

Ohhhhh, GET OVER IT and STOP WHINING!!!! Seriously, did you REALLY expect a 500 lb. black woman to win the brass ring on Idol?! Bad enough that "Master P" spent 4 weeks desecrating "Dancing With the Stars"...at least the American voting public showed some taste in voting her off. I don't think I could have stomached looking at her on my widescreen for another week. I, for one, am vastly relieved.

Can't blame me, I'm in Canada. I can't vote or else I'd be voting for Taylor, Elliott and Chris cause I think they're the best. Personally I'd have loved to see either Kellie, cause she's retarded or maybe just play acting, or Paris, shrieky little thing ain't she, to go this time.

Posted by: Steve at April 5, 2006 10:59 PM

Mandisa was an incredible talent and I, too, am shocked at her departure. Jenn_Diva could use some manners. Judging people solely by their weight is despicable.

Posted by: Maines at April 5, 2006 11:00 PM

Oh, Jenn. (sigh). Taste is relative. As your post proves.

I'll miss Mandisa too. She's beautiful and very talented and always takes the high road. I think it was a lackluster night overall, but I don't think Mandisa was the worst, not by a longshot.

mandisa should not haven gotten voted off. obviously america does not judge by voice quality or kevin would have been gone a lot sooner than he had been. i dont care how heavy mandisa is. her voice is so incredible and her face is so beautiful, you dont even notice her heaviness. i definately wont enjoy watching american idol anymore. not only am i sick of ryan/simon crapola, but mandisa shined like a star and was a joy to watch. ace has to go. ugh! or bucky! double ugh!

Posted by: robin at April 6, 2006 12:51 AM

I really thought Mandisa would have gotten further than Ace or Bucky (although they were GREAT on Tuesday, especially my little Bucky), because there is a consistent completeness to her performances that they don't have. She had a bad day (sorry) on Tuesday, and we are at the part of the season where bad days can cost. I will miss her.

Having never voted in the American Idol competition, I feel like I don't really have the right to complain when one of my favorites gets voted off, but I will anyway. I admit that Mandisa wasn't great on Tuesday, but she has been so incredible on previous shows that I was shocked tto see her voted off. What I think happened is that many people voted for some of the weaker singers, thinking that she'd be safe, like Chris and Taylor, because she was in that group of top 5 singers that everyone liked, so she'd get plenty of votes from other people. Hopefully this will shock the people who vote into truly voting for their favorites, and stop them from assuming that anyone is safe anymore at this stage of the game.

I think Mandisa was voted off for two reasons.

One, her poor country performance and two, her religious themed song the prior week. From some of the other boards I've read, there were many people QUITE offended by her song choice.

As Simon stated, between the two lowest vote-getters, based on SONG CHOICE alone, Elliot would be safe.

Oh, Leslie, you've said it all. Mandisa bursts with joy, talent, and gorgeousness. So what if she's heavy? She wears her weight well and carries herself like an African queen on stage. I'm never watching Idol again. Dead -- and Buried.

Posted by: Susan at April 6, 2006 11:43 AM

I thought this was a singing competition...not a beauty pageant. And, frankly, I think Mandisa is gorgeous and wonderfully talented. I am an average sized woman but I think fat bashing is the bastion of the small minded...pun not intended.

Steve in Canada... You made me laugh out loud! Kellie retarded! Paris shrieky! You hit the nail on the head there. And was I the only one that picked up on the comment from Simon about Ryan trying to get on "Desperate Housewives"? (He's supposedly dating Terri Hatcher) As for the next Idol, I have to say Chris is by far the best!

Posted by: Terry at April 6, 2006 2:09 PM

I am sorry to see Mandisa go but from now forward we are going to see good talent out the door, these coming weeks are going to be tough there is going to be only one AI and we have great voices on Chris, Elliot and Paris.

I'm impressed those little gas-powered generators at that Idaho compound provide enough juice for internet access, not to mention a wide-screen t.v.!

Posted by: Tess at April 6, 2006 2:46 PM

Mandisa is good, but she's not as great as people seem to think. There were many times when her voice would waver or she would struggle to hit the right notes. But she's able to sell her performances. That's what had always saved her in the past. But she's just not the amazing singer people think her to be. Sorry.

Wow, I guess you're perfect then...A Perfect 10.

Anywho,

I do agree that country was not Mandisa's forte this week, however, I must say that in my opinion, the best voices were in the bottom 3...I was really shocked!

As far as people being "offended" about Mandisa's song choice when she sang "Shackles" by Mary Mary, its no different than those who want to say "Seasons Greetings" so Christ won't be the center of Christmas...I kinda figured people would react that way, but it's sad because people wouldn't respect her for just being who she is. I understand freedom of religion, but I wouldn't feel disrespected if someone else displayed their religion in some way.

Regardless of what happened this week, I know Mandisa has a long career ahead of her.

We have to vote for those who we support!

Wow, I guess you're perfect then (casting all those stones), lol.

Anywho, I do agree that Country music was not Mandisa's forte this week. However, in my opinion the best voices were in the bottom 3...It would've been hard to lose any one of them.

As far as people being "offended" by Mandisa singing "Shackles" by Mary Mary, it's no different than those who would rather say "Season's Greetings" than acknowledge that Christ is at the center of Christmas. I kinda figured people would react that way. I believe in freedom of religion, but I don't believe that someone should be offended because she chose to show America who she is and what's important to her.

Regardless, Mandisa has a long career ahead of her.

This is a clear example of why we need to vote for who we support!

Wow! The last commentor must really have issues with fat people. Mandisa is a lovely, refreshing young woman who is so talented. Her talent and personality will put to shame any one the current contestants. I too am finished with American Idol. I guess to be an American Idol, you have to be the right size regardless of your talent. Sad, sad, sad.

Posted by: mrsB at April 6, 2006 4:31 PM

There was nothing wrong with Mandisa wanting to sing the song she did last week. At least on the surface. But, singing that type of song won't convince anyone to change their vote from either Kellie or Taylor or whoever, and it can cost you votes by people who don't want to be preached at on Tuesday nights. So it's a lose lose situation.

Unfortunately, it also opened up Mandisa's religious beliefs and assoiation with Beth Moore to further scrutiny, and I'd be more than willing to bet it lost her some support in the gay community. Top that off with a weak vocal on Tuesday night, and that's what happens. I'm not saying it should have happened that way, but it did.

Here is an absolutely well-written article about Kellie Pickler.

Leslie, you've been quoted.

Who got voted off tonigt (April 19/06). I missed it (obviously).

Posted by: g at April 19, 2006 9:45 PM

what are you people talking about? Mandisa can sing her big butt off but she chose a ridiculous song (Shania Twain!?) There are so many better country songs to suit her voice that she could have picked. She could have sung any Martina McBride song and she would still be in the competition. Besides that, we all need to get freaking social lives. Holy cow, I can't believe I'm wasting time in this stupid site.

Posted by: hqcchb at April 19, 2006 11:51 PM

Mandissa was voted out because she was anti-gay - not because of her size. Read her her bio on the Idol site. She says her Idol is Beth Moore, a known anti-gay speaker and writer.

Just can't win Idol without the gays! duh.
