"American Idol" - She's Gone!

kellie_big_hair.jpg

And I have learned how to face it. Like, even before it happened. Seriously.

Kellie Pickler has drawled her last "y'all" from the "AI" stage, and it is as nature intended. And music. Music likes this decision too. Thank you, America. You are thanked by all of us who were afraid you'd boot Elliott, who gets more fabulous-sounding every week, not to mention ridiculously hotter.

Oh, my. Have you seen this boy lately? He's gotten the Clay Aiken-over, and it's perhaps even more
successful this time. (Claymates, I love you!)

Up next for booting? I think it's Little Paris. My colleague Kevin Thompson is your guest drill sgt. for Boot Camp this week, so let's see what he thinks...

Yes I agree this week the person who needed to go-went!

Did you just say that Elliott is hot??!! Yes, he has a great voice, but I think you may need to adjust your television if he is appearing to be attractive!

Posted by: Debbie at April 28, 2006 3:02 PM

Yes, he is hot. Hot is a whole lot more then just looks. These days, with enough money, what you look like can be dramatically changed but who you are inside is a very different story.

So - yes - he's hot. And just incidentally - boy can he sing.

I love you Ann!
And here's the thing - I mean it when I say he's hot. I mean it. His eyes are beautiful, his hair has been styled to a sexy-shaggy length, his gaze is intense, and when he sang the part of "A Song For You" that goes "And when my life is over, remember when we were together, we were alone and I was singing this song to you," I was like "Ooh, I'ma remember, baby. I'ma remember."

Elliott strikes me as a reincarnation of Steve McQueen. A little bit 'The Blob' but mostly, 'Papillon'. He's a survivor. He's also the coolest of the bunch so for that reason he shouldn't win. That's how it would play out in the movies.

Taylor Hicks deserves to be voted off next for his unforgivably sophomoric "Oh Mandy" stunt that just characterizes his entire phony lounge performer persona. I'm reminded of Bill Murray's lounge singer schtick on SNL. And then there's the Elaine Bennis dance style with the thumbs and the little kicks.

While Taylor is the most overrated of the bunch, Paris is the hardest working and a genuine phenom talent that deserves to stick around and force the staid sorority girl to shake her booty a bit more as the hairless Brad Pit closes the show with a no holds barred rendition of the Al Pacino as Scarface classic: "Say hello to my little friend"

Elliott just has the most wonderful voice but I never really thought he was hot until Tuesday. He is just looking better and better. I love how he smiles when everyone cheers. He has a bit of the Robert DeNiro vibe about him. Just seems like a nice guy. I like his voice very, very much and would love to have a full CD from him.

I'm a Claymate who loves Elliot! My whole family loves him. When I first saw Elliot, I was thinking, I don't know if there is much that they can do. I also thought that Clay was intially goofy lookin' too! But those AI stylist have done their jobs right! And Clay.. oh my goodness! He looks a lot better than when he even did at the end of his AI.

But I think the main proponent is confidence. Clay's confindence has definately risen and it's VERY appealing. Elliot's is on the rise. I'm really forward to seeing him develop more. :D

Yes, Elliott IS hot!! You don't have to be attractive to see the beauty in him. Geez, are people THAT vain?

Posted by: goelliott at April 29, 2006 1:05 AM

Guess I need to adjust the screen on my tv cuz Elliott is so not in the hot catagory. Close your mouth Elliott..YUCK

I am not the same person as the Debbie above. I am an Elliott fan. I finally took time to vote for him this past week. I voted as many times as I could get through in an hour. I think he has a wonderful voice and I think he is getting cuter. I read somewhere (on Yaminions, I think) that his mom said that she likes his hair better now. She said she used to think he looked like he put a bowl on his head. She said she knows he needs dental work. And, she said that he is almost handsome now. So, he and his family know he needed a bit of help in the make-over department.

Anyway, from the beginning I thought he had a wonderful voice, but I wondered what the make-up people could do to transform him. I was wrong to think they couldn't. It never mattered to me, but I thought he might not get far if people didn't see past the first look. I am so happy that he is still in the top group. He has the best pitch and musicality. I hope he works a little more on loosening up and letting it all go. If he does, I think he can make it to the finale. He hasn't had a bad night. All the others have sung at least one "stinker."

Elliot is hot? He doesn't have a chance. I was (am) a Clay Aiken fan and in season #4, was (am) a Bo Bice fan - the difference between Elliot and Clay or Bo - is the 'C' word: Charisma.

Overall, this season is a lot like Season #3 for me... maybe more talent - or should I say, no really stinky singers left - but no real star power either. Fantasia won - and I think her Summertime performance was one of the best AI performances - but she has no staying star power.

I actually kept hoping Kellie would bring something more in her singing because she *could* have had the IT factor. Sadly, her singing was the pits.

I think Paris is this year's most talented, with the most star potential, and am a little befuddled as to why she isn't more popular.

Katherine? give me a break - she is snooze city for me. Taylor is a lot of fun - who wouldn't like someone for whom music is clearly his life? I would love to go on a cruise or to Las Vegas where he provided the entertainment (sorry, Taylor). I like Chris but he's not quite enough (though I generally vote for him...)

Posted by: jackienw at April 29, 2006 12:34 PM

I'm disagreeing about Fantasia's lack of star power. Her cd was marketed almost exclusively to the rnb community, and it is a big hit there.
(that's a polite way of saying lots of black folks bought her record and are eagerly awaiting the next one...)

I think Kellie Pickler has great talent and for you and others to cut her down like this is disgusting to say the least. You should be ashamed. If she gets the break I hope she does you will be hearing from her. I have not missed AI this year but Kellie is gone and I will not watch another one. I could care less who is AI 2006.

Elliott Hot? Absolutely scorching!

Elliott hot? He is absolutely scorching! Love him, love his talent, love his looks.

Posted by: DeeDi at April 30, 2006 9:21 AM

I think the next to go will be Paris. Hasn't she been in the bottom category a few times already? She has a great voice and when she chooses the right songs, she'll excel more and more, but unfortunately Elliott and Chris is making it hard for her.

Elliott and Chris (in my opinion) will be among the top two.

Katherine can "sing" and sounds amazing when singing sultry ballads or something jazzy. If she stays in her element she could give Elliott and Chris a run for their money.

Taylor (Mr. Soul Patrol himself) is very unique (when not trying to imitate the late Ray Charles) and is a good performer. Even though music is his life, his performance sometimes out weighs his singing capability. Therefore, I think he'll be booted off, after Paris if Katherine stays in her element. If Katherine doesn't, then she'll go after Paris.

Posted by: Kimberly at April 30, 2006 9:38 PM

Elliot is so NOT hot! I believe the top two will be Katherine and Chris. I wouldn't buy anything Katherine does as her music isn't my style but she will be there along with Chris. And Elliot isn't a great singer. I know he can sing but he isn't great and doesn't have what is needed to go to the top.

Does anyone remember how good the tennis player, Ivan Lendl, looked after they fixed his teeth?

If people can see beyond Elliot's looks, perhaps he CAN make it. He is a wonderful talent and I'd certainly buy the CD when it comes out.

Elliott is NOT hot, and never could be. I feel sorry for him, and I know he is ill, but he doesn't even have this great voice I am supposed to be hearing. He looks and acts so awkward on stage, and I can see his nervousness.

He is totally outclassed by Chris, and shouldn't even be mentioned in the same paragraph as Clay Aiken. Clay was the best Idol material ever, and nothing before or since has changed that fact. Why in the world do people compare Elliott with Clay? Chris would be closer. He has charisma too, but not as much by a long shot. He also has a super rocker voice, and is versat. Ballads are great. He brings it week after week, and there are no bad nights.

Taylor is a side show act, and little more. It's just fodder for the water cooler. His voice is the weakest on there.

Paris is simply annoying, and that's too bad. The girl has a good voice, but she does not connect.

Katherine is beyond gorgeous, and will surely have a career. Her voice is super, but I think Chris would do better in the marketplace.

If she wins, that would be ok, but anyone else other than Chris, would be a joke.
