FORT LAUDERDALE — Texas is considering making residents who refuse to leave manadatory evacuation zones pay for their rescue, noted Bill Read, director of National Hurricane Center, at the Governor’s Hurricane Conference today.

Read asked attendees if they thought it was a good idea to encourage compliance. It sure conjured some vivid images.

“I can see the helicopter coming with the basket and a little Mastercard device in there,” Read said.
