CSU forecast sees 12 named storms in 2009, down from 14
At least one forecasting team is scaling back its 2009 hurricane forecast to 12 named storms, down from 14, but the U.S. East Coast including South Florida is still given a 32 percent chance of seeing the business end of a major hurricane.
Weak El Nina conditions in the Pacific account for a slightly less scary forecast compared to December’s view, Colorado State University forecasters said today. Drs. William Gray and Phil Klotzbach now see two intense hurricanes in 2009, down from three. They peg the chances of a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher) striking anywhere on the U.S. coastline as 54 percent — slightly above the 52 percent chance for the last century.
For the U.S. East Coast including the peninsula of Florida, the risk of a major hurricane landfall is seen as 32 percent. That’s a hair above the 31 percent average for the last century.

Keep in mind that we can see a hurricane coming and run the other way, vs. earthquates that cannot be predicted in most cases like in Italy currently.

This is just forecasting. No one can tell if “Palm Beach County will be hit by a storm or know more about the storm”. There is NOT a storm yet! Please .. we don’t need this hype already!

Joan is too funny! I’ve never witnessed a hurricane; I’m new to the so. florida area, I’m not thrilled with the thought of a storm, but thats nature. I think we should save the panic for when its actually here.

Thanks Joan, I live in Riviera Beach, own my home, am college educated, and pay for my own living expenses. Does that make me a thug or a nuisance? Take your “holier than thou” attitude and shove it. Think before you speak.
