Palm Beach mansion on market for $81.5 million
Billionaire businessman and philanthropist Sidney Kimmel has put his estate at 1236 S. Ocean Blvd. in Palm Beach on the market for $81.5 million, making it the second-priciest listing on the island after Donald Trump’s $125 million mansion.
So what do you get for $81.5 million?
Five lushly landscaped acres with 300 feet of ocean frontage. A 32,000-square-foot home designed by Bill Gates’ architect. A living room with 26-foot ceilings and 20-foot-high glass panels that disappear into the floor at the push of a button. A wine cellar, pool, waterfalls, staff quarters and a 14-foot model of a Cunard cruise ship. An air chiller and 27-zone AC. And plenty of airplane noise. (This feature’s not mentioned in the marketing materials, but the location just south of Southern Boulevard makes air traffic inevitable.) Paintings by Marc Chagall and Man Ray aren’t included.
Kimmel’s agents, Paulette and Dana Koch of Corcoran Group, led agents and reporters on a tour of the house yesterday, and brokers from as far away as Miami and Fort Lauderdale came to check out the estate.
“I think the value’s there,” said Tim Elmes of SOL Sotheby’s International Realty in Fort Lauderdale. “The place is built like a resort.”
If Kimmel gets his asking price, he’ll top the Palm Beach record of $70 million, which Ron Perelman’s place fetched in 2004.

Man Ray is a photographer, not a painter. Just for the record…

“Best known in the art world for his avant-garde photography, Man Ray produced major works in a variety of media and considered himself a painter above all,” Wikipedia says.

You guys slay me. You better tell Kimmel that the Man Ray canvas on the wall must be a fake because Man Ray was a photographer, not a painter …
