Builders: Home sales “off a cliff,” no recovery in sight
The new home market won’t return to normalcy for years, says National Association of Home Builders Chief Economist David Seiders. In a teleconference on Tuesday, he said the “major contraction” in home starts will continue into next year.
No cheerleader, Seiders is pessimistic about the mortgage meltdown and about the real estate market in general. “I’m looking at another major hit on the economy,” he says.
Here’s his prediction:

In other news, there’s another setback for Ocean Land Investments, the company that killed its deal for Briny Breezes. The Miami Herald reports that prosecutors are looking at a Miami condo project Ocean Land is developing with Related Group.

First off, Jeff, you owe “lil john (yeah!!!)” lunch for helping you find the St Pete Times article.
You know I can’t let this article go away without some choice comments…..
“After juggling 15 calls from debtors, creditors and clients, Seither lays the phones aside and delivers a pep talk to herself.
“I’m not a real estate bum,” the president of Executive Preferred Properties announces. “I wear diamonds, Rolexes and necklaces. I’m a classy Realtor.”
“I wear diamonds, Rolexes and necklaces. I’m a classy Realtor.”
“I wear diamonds, Rolexes and necklaces. I’m a classy Realtor.”
“I wear diamonds, Rolexes and necklaces. I’m a classy Realtor.”
“I wear diamonds, Rolexes and necklaces. I’m a classy Realtor.”
“I wear diamonds, Rolexes and necklaces. I’m a classy Realtor.”
What??? What???? What????
Babs, aka Liz Seither, from here on in called “Babs” in the leased Lexus, and too much eyeliner like Leona Helmsley used to wear, is kidding, right??
I like to watch unchecked greed fall flat. Flaming orange hair replaced with flame out.
Babs here, with the view, in her Botoxed up skull of hers, thinks that her Rolex somehow makes her “classy”, and a “classy realtor” to boot. …wait, but Babs, you can’t afford it. You owe people big money. You are late on your payments, and you are resorted to the dollar menu at Burger King. Babs, guess what? You’re broke! Ladies and gentleman of this Real Deal Blog…..cw1900 is speechless. Well, almost…
Babs, here’s an idea. Sell the diamonds, Rolexes, and necklaces on craigslist. Do it fast. You agreed to pay people money, and now you are welshing on the deals. That’s not being “classy” Babs.
Then there’s the guy from CT, Anthony Marottoli
“By the end of the month, he has to come up with $1.38-million for a condo he reserved at Sandpearl Resort. He hopes to work out a deal with developer JMC Communities. He can’t afford the unit.”
If he couldn’t afford it, then I must ask the very simple question….Then why did he buy it if he couldn’t afford it?
I can answer my own question to the benefit of you all out there.
Greed. Frenzy. Pompous business attitude.
Babs and Anthony Marottoli both got such big Donald Trump Wannabe heads, that they failed to plan what would happen in a worse case scenario, they had no back up plan, and worse yet, they apparently didn’t care to. Reckeless, careless business decisions are usually made by this ‘get rich quick” crowd, and the St Pete Times wants us to feel sorry for them.
I don’t get a kick out of watching people fall on hard times, but sometimes we all like to see deserving souls such as Babs and Anthony crash and burn with such careless business attitudes like that.
You doomers, you think I’m pompous? I just work hard and don’t try to pretend I’m something I’m not. I don’t buy things I can’t afford, period. For example, you think a guy like FL Ren is a get rich quick SOB who made his money dishonestly off the backs of “good, hard working, honest folk…”? Some of you probably do. You think people with money somehow screwed the little guy to get it. You would probably be wrong in that assumption is my guess. No, he probably just planned correctly, and had emergency plans in place, and never bit off more than he could chew. The tortoise and the hare. Not hard to figure out.
Babs and Anthony remind many of you of that same crowd over on this side of the state who are in the same position. If you know a few, they probably all have that same mentality as Babs and Anthony, right?
Anthony said, “”Out on Gulf Boulevard on Belleair Beach there are folks still looking to triple their money. Even in this dead market. See how greed plays?”
What? See how greed plays? Anthony, my friend, you are no different, maybe a little worse. Maybe some of them could actually afford it. You couldn’t and you bought it anyway.
There’s a lesson here, you people. Not all the people you see that you think you’re jealous of are what they appear. That new Benz is actually leased, and the big home is upside down because they took out all the equity two years ago to buy a bunch crap, and behind closed doors, they’re eating meatloaf from Kmart like Babs.
It’s not how much you make, it’s how much you keep, you people. Life is easy when can understand that and actually live it.
Hey Babs, maybe I’ll buy one of your necklaces off of you for my wife. You need the cash, baby. One problem. I’m a bottom feeder, and here’s my terms, and my one and only final price. This offer is good for the next 30 seconds. Take it or leave it. You better take it, Babs. You need to eat tonite and they’re about to turn off your electricity.

I’m a classy Realtor. You wouldn’t want to be in my Town Car Palm Beach Edition two hours after I’ve eaten my meatloaf.

A classy realtor?
Anyone with real class doesn’t tell a reporter that he or she has class.
That’s like attorneys in PBC buying tv ads telling us how philanthropic they are. True philanthropists do it without having to tell people they did. Those looking for the praise, “Hey, look at me, I give my time to the United Way” are only doing it so that they look good.
This realtor is the same way.
What a joke.

CW,
That was a great post and I couldn’t have said any better.
This one gets “Best Post of the Year” award.
Flippers caused this whole affordability crisis, and any RE person that is active in trading RE comes to the table with conflicts.
I’ve heard many stories of RE folks showing ONLY their own properties and not even presenting others to prospects.
I don’t feel bad for ANY flipper/speculator who was caught with their pants down - NONE.
Crash and burn I say.
I do feel bad for the hard working folks that got wrapped up in this mess and overpaid for their home because of some RE person telling them it was a bargin.
IMHO, what we are seeing now, is only the tip of the iceberg; much more to come. Sad, but very true.
Cheers.

That story in the SP Times was spot on..and CW’s comments were priceless. During last part of my 10 years in the South End of WPB, I saw realtors snapping up houses like bottled water before a hurricane. I hope those greedy a-holes crash and burn. They were the primary reason that prices skyrocketed in the 33405 zipcode. Yes, I cashed out and the house I sold would fetch 200-250k less than what it sold for in mid-06. But hey, maybe the prices in these nice, family friendly places will correct enough for young families to afford to live there and keep these communities vibrant.

I agree with Rich. Best post of the year, hands down, and I’m one of the cheerleaders. Cheerleaders and the Mike Fink sector all should agree on that one. Jeff, if you’re keeping score, Cw’s post this morning is the winner. I’m still laughing.

You say you don’t like to watch people fall on hard times, your words, not mine, but you seem to be thoroughly enjoying watching a woman pushing 70 years old lose everything when she is very close to retirement. Shame on you.

I agree entirely with the original post and your response to it. Your character is defined by not what you do when other people are watching, but what you do when no one is watching.

I find you vulgar and offensive. Calling some woman Babs and making fun of her situation is not funny. Offering to buy her jewelry is cheap and insulting, and opportunist. How you sleep at night is beyond me. You must be from Boca.
