Study: Coldwell Banker county’s dominant broker

Looks like Cendant Corp., which ponied up $160 million for Arvida Realty Services back in 2002, is getting its money’s worth. Now known as Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate, the former Arvida was by far the biggest brokerage in Palm Beach County in 2005, according to new numbers from Denver-based newsletter REAL Trends.

Here are the county’s top four firms, based on closed transaction sides and sales volume:

Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate, 9,773, $3.5 billion

Illustrated Properties, 4,915, $2.1 billion

Prudential Florida WCI, 3,407, $1.4 billion

Keyes Co., 3,721, $1.2 billion

For those of you who aren’t industry pros, “transaction sides” are a common way to gauge sales volume: If Coldwell Banker agents represented both buyer and seller, Coldwell Banker would get credit for both sides. If a Coldwell Banker agent represented the seller and Illustrated Properties represented the buyer, each company would get credit for one side.

Coldwell Banker parent NRT is the nation’s biggest broker, according to REAL Trends.
