Advance Could Enable Gay Women to Have Own Babies
The Telegraph of London says a team of researchers at the University of Newcastle has asked for permission to turn a woman’s bone marrow cells into sperm.
The research would raise the possibility that lesbian couples could bear their own biological children.
The team, led by microbiologist Karim Nayernia, has already created sperm cells from a female human embryo, and from a man’s bone marrow cells.
Nayernia has said his work is aimed at helping patients harness the disease-curing potential of their own stem cells. Still, New Scientist suggests a reproductive revolution is coming soon.
Are we ready? Is this another case of science getting ahead of ethical considerations?

Yes, we are getting ahead of our ability to ethically discern. In addition, we are usurping a role that belongs only to God: creating life. We do not have the power to account for what we create, nor the knowledge, foresight and wisdom necessary to control or devise its outcome and consequences.

While I agree with Zenaida, technically these doctors are not creating life, since they are using existing matter. You may think I am being picky, but it is important to communicate accurately if we are to be taken seriously by the people who disagree with the ethical dilemma.

So they can create babies from female human embryo, and from a man’s bone marrow cells but they cant find the cure for AIDS ?!?!? Who funds these types of unethical things. Are we now playing GOD ?!?! Instead of creating something that we already do naturally how about you hand the money over and your brains to help find a cure for cancer in babies. Save life thats already here. What about all the poor fetus you may kill in the process..i know every experiment wont be successful. What is this word coming to..Mad scientist today….. A waste of brains !

Seems to me, if I remember my high school biology correctly, that a woman contains XX and a man XY genes. If we are creating sperm from women, that would mean they, by definition, could only be XX, yes? So, women only producing women… this really IS a conspiracy! Hmmm… although it DOES remind me of the Abbott and Costello movie when they landed on Venus, the planet of women… this might not be all bad!
