Today’s the Day for Duffy’s

Heads up: If you’re in the mood for a burger or some wings, today might be a good day to visit your local Duffy’s.

The venerable sports-bar chain, always one of my faves, is offering anniversary specials at all of its locations to mark its 23 years in business. Prices are being rolled back to what they were when Duffy’s opened in 1985. Among the deals: 10 wings for $3.99, a half-pound cheeseburger with fries for $3.99), draft beer for 79 cents and soft drinks for 69 cents.

Notwithstanding a recent disastrous experience at the Duffy’s in St. Lucie West’s Superplay USA complex, I’ve always found the chain to be better-than-average in terms of both food (the wings are tops) and service. (Plus, the two-for-one drink specials during happy hour can’t be beat.) My favorite Duffy’s story: When I visited one of the Jupiter locations about a year ago, a server was a few minutes late in getting dessert to the table. Without my even saying anything, he immediately realized his mistake and comped the item - that’s the kind of customer service that’s all too rare in the restaurant biz of late.

All that said, my experience with Duffy’s varies a bit location by location: The PGA Blvd./US 1 location is my pick - it’s about the most spacious sports bar I’ve ever seen and it’s run extremely efficiently. I’m curious if readers have noted a difference among Duffy’s locations, too.

Anyhow, see you later. It’s time for those wings

There is definitely a difference in service from location to location. When hanging with the fellas, I prefer the Village WPB location. The smaller bar is great for rowdy fans who raucously cheer on their favorite team. Also, the lady bar tenders are by far sexier. However, the PGA location is best for hanging with the ladies. The larger restaurant affords more privacy but, still allows excellent line of site to multiple screens independent of seat location. There are less female servers, but perhaps offers more eye candy for the ladies (fellas be careful, while you are watching the game, your lady may be watching the server). All in all, the food, drinks, and service in both locations are great!

Duffy’s PGA has always been good to me. I drop in to see the UFC fights they have and occasionally drop in for a Braves game on Sunday. The burgers are good, but the blackened mahi mahi sandwich is the real winner. Service is always great at the bar and Andy is a class act bartender.

Not only is there a 2 for 1 happy hour, I believe they still have half priced food at PGA on Tuesdays and kids eat free on Wednesdays. Check with them to make sure.
