Who Moved My Motivation?

Gazing upward from the bottom of this big ol’ rut, I am wondering if March has really been as blah as it feels today. What is going on here?

While it’s true that I have not been pushing myself as hard as in January and February, there is still a 3 pound loss to report. And I gained a pound of muscle. I have been lazy though. I need to be doing more…. much more. There will always be a plausible excuse for skipping a walk or a workout. I realized this early on, but have found my resolve flagging.

Good things to report: I bought tickets to the recent Eagles concert months ago and was determined to set aside any insecurities about my appearance and just have a good time. I waited till the last day to shop for concert clothes. Dread? Yes, but I actually was able to put together an outfit in which I felt good. Oh yeah…it was two sizes smaller than I had been wearing. Add a manicure, some cool jewelry and a flat-ironed hairstyle and I was back in the ‘70’s! It was a fun evening and it was nice to have “the skinny girl” back for a little while. Our seats were on row C, which meant we had to traverse a bunch of stairs to get in and out…..no problem! All the walking and exercise was paying off! It was especially gratifying, because my (much younger) companion whined a little.

Back to the problem at hand; I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has faced similar challenges of waning motivation. How were you able to regain your balance?

I know what you mean, Joye. While I’ve lost 37 pounds since 12-27-04, these last 9 pounds have taken seemingly forever. Motivation is always tough - my biggest motivation is to fit in that sexy red dress I wore on my 4th date with my now husband. It hangs in the closet begging for me to fit into it again! My goal has been to be a size 10 by July. Starting off at a size 20, this has not been an easy task. I’ve only gone down 2 sizes to date. My motivation wanes at times, but fortunately, with a great network of support, it really helps me stay focused. I feel I HAVE to do 5 days at the gym - I do 1 hour of cardio 5 days a week and 3 days I do a circuit. I look forward to Saturdays and Sundays - for these are my “off” days from the gym, but by Monday, I’m geared and ready. I guess I’ve really gotten the hang of this “lifestyle change”. Honestly, a network of people have aided me greatly - both at the gym, my husband, friends at work and on-line support since I joined the F.E.W. Program. It keeps me going forward and focusing on my goals. Best of luck to you!!
