Ice storm, exercise and a hot shower
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Nothing impedes your regular fitness progress like a nice ice storm, right?! Well, as I sat in the dark of my cold & powerless home Sunday morning I started to discuss with my wife…
“It’s so cold. Do you think we have hot water?” she asked
“Well, the thermostat says it is 52 degrees in this place, and my guess is no hot water.”
Then a light went off in my head. You know who will probably have heat, power and hot water? The gym! So we both threw on workout clothes and headed to my gym in Midtown.
I typically do not work out on the weekends, but the ice storm brought exercise in some interesting forms. On Friday, we were having friends over for a poker night, so I worked out at lunch for about an hour. Then the ice storm hit. We awoke on Saturday to the frozen tundra! Being the brave souls we are, my wife & I decided to walk up to the Starbuck’s on the corner of Peachtree Road by our house. Once we sat there for about 10 minutes, we decided to walk even farther to the Blockbuster so we could rent some movies (we sure weren’t going anywhere in the car that day!). By the time we got back to the house, I realized that we had walked practically two miles. Not bad for inadvertent exercise! Then Sunday came & the gym called for me with the promise of burned calories and a hot shower.
All in all, we made the best of the bad weather and hopefully burned as many calories as we took in this weekend.
