Shaking off the holiday food…

The New Year is 4 days old. I think I am only now shaking off all the holiday food I ate between my family in New Orleans, my in-laws in Nashville, and New Year’s Eve in Atlanta. Perhaps if I had walked to each of those locations I would have burned off all the calories I took in!
Anyway, one of my Christmas presents was a new digital scale. I like it already since it tells me I am already down to 216 lbs. But this thing does more than tell weight … it also measures body fat. That is not necessarily a good thing. Apparently my body fat is well above the “obese” range. Even knowing that this is probably not 100% scientifically accurate, I have a new goal of getting my body fat under 20%. At least for starters!
Yesterday I got back in my workout routine. After almost two weeks off, I figured I would ease into it. I did 2 miles on the elliptical machine and 3 miles on the bike. No workout tonight, but I plan to hit the weights at least twice this week in addition to cardio.

Dreaded diets begin…

Well… what a weekend! Down to New Orleans for New Years and can those Cajuns party! and EAT! There was always something cooking and someone saying “try dis gator, try dis gumbo, try dis crawfish” and of course you can’t be rude and say “no.” We had such a good time… However, its back to reality!
It’s Monday morning and all over the land dreaded diets are beginning and I’m no different. Except that about half of Atlanta knows about it and all my friends have had some kind of a comment (mostly positive) about it being in the journal.
Day one
0530: We started the day with a hot shower and a weigh in… 217 lbs butt naked! Coffee with light creamer and one sweet & low to get rolling to the office.
0620: its on the road from Kennesaw to Galleria. Back from the holidays, the rat race begins!
I usually don’t eat breakfast. Around 10:00 am it’s a snack of one medium delicious apple I keep a large quart container of water on my desk and sip from it throughout the day. Maybe 32-40 ozs
Oops..11:30 Computer reminder has gone off telling me its time to take a hike, so I head down to the gardens outside the building. Its such a beautiful day for a walk
:30 later its back to the grind. I’m trying not to eat a lot but I’ll try and eat several small snacks per day and my main meal will be around 5 or 6 pm at the latest. That way I don’t get the munches. Eating late at night is a no-no.
Dinner tonight was at Ruby Tuesdays. Christine, my beautiful wife, and her son Tad are also going to diet along with me. Sort of a family affair. We look at the calorie guide supplied by the restaurant (A GREAT IDEA). Tad wants a colossus hamburger (2000 calories with the fries) but gets smart and has chicken fingers and broccoli just 800 calories, Christy has a salad with light oil dressing so she’s good, I have 1/2 ham sandwich — NO fries and a glass of water. 650 calories.
Under 1700 calories for day one..not to bad!
