The Boo Birds

A trip I took to Philly a couple years back coincided with the implosion of Veterans Stadium. One local was asked by a TV bubblehead to give his reaction, and the fan replied instantly, “Wish they’d do the same thing to the Phillies.”

Well, there will be plenty of time for that, since the Braves play there at the start of next week.

For now, the first Brotherly Love installment of Enemy Watch revolves around the increasingly ludicrous entity known as the Philadelphia Eagles. They are your reigning NFC champions, but are threatening to come unglued before their Monday night season opener against the Falcons at the Georgia Dome.

It took only one season for Terrell Owens to be designated “the biggest malcontent in Philly sports history”, which is saying something in a town overflowing with athletic gripers, whiners and all-around bad sports.

The cancer is spreading, with Donovan McNabb refusing to talk about Owens and Brian Westbrook calling off contract talks. The notoriously crabby Philly media have no hesitation piling on.

Even T.O.’s efforts to help Hurricane Katrina survivors aren’t helping his popularity in town, which can’t be much better than the president’s in Louisiana.

No, keeping track of Eagles shenanigans appears to be a very busy job.

So you’d think with all the chaos, everyone outside Philly would be jumping on the Falcons at home, right? RIGHT?

Nope.

Even if the national media recognizes this as the top game of Week 1, a couple of prominent prognosticators pick the Eagles by 10. (BY TEN!!).

That’s a lot of love for the city that hates. We expect such wackiness from an Eagles’ homeboy like Ron Jaworski , but shame on you Peter King.

Are you kidding me? The Eagles are going to kill the falcons even with all the distractions. We owned you in the NFC conference game and we will own you on MNF.

Go E-A-G-L-E-S!

Ludicrous entity?? Wendy, are you kidding me? See here is a glaring example of how your hysterical and immature hatred of all that is Philadelphia clouds your shot at any rational thought. Of course they are favored to win…they own the Falcons!

Some of my best friends live in Philly, so this is why I write what I do. I’m just bringing some of their own jaded perspective to the ATL.

A Big part of our problem in Atlanta is on display on this board. Who has Wendy’s back here? Where the heck are the Falcons fans.

Well not to worry Wendy, I got your back. Everything you said was dead on. And I am glad to see someone speaking up on the rude and crude that inhabit the sespool portion of an otherwise fine state. Any perceived ownership of the Falcons comes to a screeching halt Monday about 9:00 PM. I wonder if all these Philly jerks will come back to eat there humble pie!!

Over at ESPN.com in their “expert picks” 5 out of the 8 picked the Falcons over the Eagles. So not everybody out there is picking the Eagles.

Are you kidding me? “athletic gripers, whiners and all-around bad sports”? This from the city that bore the careers of Deion Sanders and John “KKK” Rocker?

Ten points is conservative. Final score, 31-10 EAGLES!

Philly athletes (the Eagles, I can’t find any on any other Philly team) are angels compared to their fans. They are criminal, obnoxious and full of themselves. They assualt visiting fans who dare wear the opponents colors and their actions would not be tolerated IN ANY other stadium in the country. Thats why the city put a courtroom in the stadium. Its full of criminals. May they get back to way they do best soon…losing.

I actually disagree with the generalization that Philly sports fans are always tough on visiting fans. During 1988-1990, I lived in Philly and attended an Eagles - Falcons game. The Eagles were riding high, and the lowly Falcons were awful —- but the Falcons won the game! I wore a Falcons cap to the game and cheered openly. I was surrounded by Eagles fans who were very courteous to me. They can be tough, but they’re also pretty knowledgeable and appreciative fans. They call a spade a spade, and that’s fair enough in my book.

Philly fans should be proud of thier athletes. Afterall, who wouldn’t be proud of T.O. and Allen Iverson. The reason they’re so defensive is because they see the end is near, and will be puncuated Monday night. Their passion and knowledge for football runs deep. If we all had to stay indoors 8 months out of the year because it was 10 degrees outside, we’d be a little more rabid as well. Do the females shave in Philly? Do they have women? Just curious. They’re really good at hurling insults, “We’re ignorant”, is one of their favorites. My ignorant a* will be on the golf course all winter. But hey, staying inside all winter will give ya’ll plenty of time to hone your skills. Basically they’re good at being a*****. VICK SHOWS OUT. FALCONS WIN IN A CLOSE ONE!!

Sorry Atlanta but not only is this the best team philly has had since the early 80’s but Monday night is going to be extremely humbling for you guys. Vick is without question the most overrated player in the league. He won’t be once he learns how to pass the ball, but until then he is. Philly 31 Atlanta 17
