In Dawg Nation, reality bites

We took my Dad to dinner Sunday at his favorite Athens cafeteria and a guy we didn’t even know came over to speak after noticing my brother Jon’s UGA windbreaker. As he walked away, he expressed what I’ve heard over and over the past week from Dawg fans: “Let’s hope we have a better season next year.”

Now, with Georgia having a 9-3 record and a New Year’s Day spot in the highest-paying non-BCS bowl and the fans still complaining and disappointed, it might sound like the Bulldog Nation is spoiled and in need of a reality check. But actually, it’s anyone who’s satisfied with that showing who’s in need of the reality check. Just aiming for a 10-win season isn’t enough any more for a program that aspires to the BCS elite, a point that hopefully is in the forefront of the minds of Mark Richt and his staff.

Of course, part of the general malaise among Dawg fans is the season-ending loss to the Yellow Jackets. Many if not most fans would have found an 8-4 record that included a win over Tech more acceptable than 9-3 with a loss to the suddenly delusional nerds who now think this triple-option gimmick is going to make them a dynasty.

Overall, I think we can all agree that while this wasn’t a bad season, it certainly didn’t satisfy anyone wearing red and black. So while we wait for exams to be over before serious preparations for Michigan State begin, here are a few random thoughts on the state of Bulldog football …

First, I can’t figure out whether Richt is blowing smoke on this kickoff situation or what. Poor Blair Walsh. He’s been thrown under the bus by his coaches and teammates and assumed a larger share of the blame for the Tech loss than he deserves. Those out-of-bounds kickoffs didn’t lose the game. The poor tackling and lack of focus on assignments on defense did that. But now we have Richt indicating he might look for a JUCO kickoff specialist or even a walk-on from the soccer team or student body who can “boom it” out of the end zone. Which makes it sound like they wanted Walsh to do just that, but he wasn’t capable. However, Kevin Butler, a man who knows something about the kicking game and whose son is one of Georgia’s kickers, has said repeatedly that Blair is capable of putting it in the end zone but has been told to kick it high and short and to the corner. Even Richt himself had indicated earlier in the season that the Dawgs were going for that sort of kick because he thought it was safer than trying to cover a kick down the middle that’s in the end zone but returnable. (Especially since we load up our coverage team with walk-ons.) Bottom line: There’s a lot more wrong with our special teams than just Blair Walsh’s leg strength, and Richt better take the problem seriously.

On the subject of the defense, a friend checked the record book and came up with this: In four years, Brian Van Gorder’s defenses gave up 30 or more points just one time: in the SEC championship against LSU. In four years under Willie Martinez, the defense has given up 30 or more points 11 times, including to such powerhouses as Kentucky and Troy. And they’ve given up 40-plus three times this year alone! Which raises the question: If it’s not the coordinator who’s the problem, then what is?

Meanwhile, speaking of the lousy defense against Tech, even the coaches singled out Reshad Jones for his failure to wrap up runners. So it’s a little disorienting to read that he’s submitted paperwork to the NFL to gauge how he might be drafted if he didn’t return for his junior season. Talk about someone in need of a reality check!

And on the subject of leaving early for the NFL: If Matt Stafford and Knowshon Moreno do go, it’ll be a shame in terms of their UGA legacy. Instead of being remembered among the all-time greats like Sinkwich, Trippi, Tarkenton and Walker, they’ll be relegated to the status of talented players who were on underachieving teams, like Eric Zeier and Robert Edwards.

Another thing I wonder about: Besides players’ families, just who exactly is likely to buy that DVD of highlights from the 2008 season? In future years will we really want to dig that out and relive the glorious win over Arizona State?

Bill, the sad thing is that the dogs (I refuse to call them “dawgs”) let a gimmck offense beat them. You must be embarrassed for a bunch nerds to push you around.

Oh, and the game was not near as close as the score. Tech punched UGA in the mouth and the dogs did not respond.

Reality check for those of us who think we should expect BCS titles - Have you looked at our record over the last 30 years? We’ve had some great seasons in between that as well as some very poor ones. The reality check is that we were way overvalued going into the preseason. Alot of us tend to agree that preseason polls are garbage. But all of the sudden they are accurate because the Dawgs were #1. So rather than excepting we weren’t that good to begin with we are still whining. Yes, this season was a huge letdown but that’s no excuse for all of the empty seats I saw at the Tech game. And as much as I dislike GT that gimmick offense has been successful for some time for Paul Johnson. We better take it seriously. Go Dawgs!

This is a terrible column from a UGA supporter that only points out the negative that has transpired. Don’tknow about you guys but the season ain’t over yet and I’ll be in Orlando for that Bowl game. We all know Bill King won’t.

-So this year was underachieved. It goes hand in hand with those years where we over achieved. Get over it. It’s football and it happens.

I think the disappointment comes from the pollsters’ #1 ranking of Georgia in the preseason. They got us to believe we could win it all. Thus, even one loss became a disappointment.

By the time the Tech game rolled around much of the pressure was off. Losing to Tech was not that big of a deal. I consider their players’ vandalism of Sanford Stadium more atrocious than losing the game.

Tech fans made fun of us for agreeing with the pollsters and the pundits who picked UGA to win the NC. Now, Tech fans are doing the same thing…but I doubt the pollsters will echo their confidence.

Was anyone else amused at the empty seats at the ACC Championship game? My daughter remarked, and I think correctly, “Gosh, there were more people at the Grayson/Lowndes game last week!”

I would love for Reshad Jones to go play for “real coaches.” Let some real players make the tackles that he’s obviously too lazy to make. I just can’t believe he thinks an NFL team would actually want him right now.

Vince: keep talking about how weak the ACC is. makes it fun to hear the explanations on the 6-4 head to head record of ACC vs SEC, with 3 of the SEC wins coming from bama, florida, and florida.

and i believe it was the uga fans at the end of last season screaming about how the pollsters were all idiots and polls were worthless. funny how that tune changed with the preseason #1.

to hell with georgia.

Ha- no one is talking about how “weak” the ACC is except you. Vince was making a comment about how “weak” the ACC fans were. Not the teams. The whole SEC vs. ACC discussion is really old. The SEC was down this year. Really down. I mean, we had 3 coaches get fired. The ACC was the better conference this year.

Thank you for honesty on the blawg! It’s refreshing. Now if I may, I would like to add a couple of thoughts for you to ponder. To begin with, the Special teams were not very SPECIAL, were they? Maybe CMR should HIRE URBAN MEYER to coach the special teams. To have special teams requires a special coach, and obviously Fabris isn’t getting the job done. Come on Coach Richt, Walsh isn’t the problem, Fabris is! As far as Tech’s offense goes, I disagree about it being a gimmick. PJ has been very successful with this offense for many years, and will contince to be so in the ACC. The enigma here is how giddy the North Avenue Trade School fans are about this year’s loss to the hated yellow maggots. The one vivid play, forever etched in my mind, is the one where Tech attempted a pass and overthrew the receiver. Prince Miller was beaten on the play, but the pass was overthrown. And what did Miller do? He danced a jig, showboating all the way back to the huddle, as if he had done something. It wasn’t his playmaking that was effective, as much as it was the other guys failure to execute. The same can be said for the so called Tech win! It wasn’t so much of what Tech did, as it was the failure of UGA’s defense to execute. The Maggots shouldn’t be dancing and showboating; they should just humbly walk away with a thankful heart.

Bill,

How about asking Butler about his kid who is on scholarship as a Punter/kicker? I think you should look a little closer at the coaching the special teams receive.

Getting someone from the soccer team would be a problem, since we only have female soccer players.

Chad Gloer is a walk on on the kick off team and had 9 tackles this year. If you get someone to kick the damn ball in bounds, Chad will nail his arse!!!!

This Georgia fun could better suffer 3 losses if we did not look so fundamentaly pathetic all season long. On another note, I saw some face mask pulls, head to head hits and out-of-bounds hits go uncalled in the SECCG. Unlike the regular season, the refs pretty much let them play.

The reality that really bites for you, Mr. King, is that Ga Tech was the better team, this year. The GT coaching staff made adjustments on BOTH sides of the ball at halftime (You do know what those are, right?). Georgie was out-coached and out-played in the second half, to the tune of 33-14.

I’m glad that it makes you feel better to think that GT’s “gimmicky offense” will soon be figured out and held in check by Georgie’s awesome defense. However, the thing that makes this offense work is not the Triple Option; rather, it is the man at the helm, Coach Paul Johnson. Yes, he likes to use a lot of TO plays in his offense, but his coaching is what really makes the difference. GT finally has a coach that has the team well prepared and believing and expecting to win; knowing that they have a chance and are not out of any game (12-28 at halftime) until the clock goes to 00:00 (45-42). CPJ plays to win, rather than “not to lose”.

You might also consider that Georgie saw, maybe, 40-50% of CPJ’s offense. They had TWO WEEKS to prepare for it and still didn’t stop it (400+yds rushing). Maybe they should go get a “gimmicky defense” to stop GT’s “gimmicky offense”, because the regular one didn’t work. GT did not pass much, this year, for a lot of reasons, but I think next year is going to be a different story. After CPJ gets his Run-and-Shoot package installed - the other 50% of his offense (Oops! Another one of those “gimmicky offenses”!) - I think that GT will be a much more balanced team offensively. Then, just about the time teams think they have the TO play well defended - BAM - there goes an A-Back or Wide Receiver streaking down the field wide open and catching a TD pass! I should be a lot of fun to watch!

I will not be bold enough to predict a GT win, next year, at BDS; after all, we are a very young team and anything can happen with injuries, during the season. But I sure do like our chances more, at this point, than I have in years past.

Oh and one other reality that must really bite for you is that CPJ received much tutelage and guidance from none other than the beloved and revered Erk Russell - God rest his soul. That one really stings, too, doesn’t it?

Merry Christmas and Go Jackets!!

Bill, I used to think you were a thougthful, classy guy. But, the “nerd,” “gimmick” comment just revealed you. I’m a longtime Dawg fan, but can see that, if he stays there, Paul Johnson will make Tech a power. That is good for UGA, giving more strength of schedule weight when we beat them.

And, your assertion that Richt “better,” address special teams is more than a tad arrogant. Do you have some pull over the UGA football program I’m not aware of? I hope Coach Richt never listens to a thing you have to say.

By Captain

It’s possible that Fabris and Martinez are both excellent coaches, responsible for two groups of players who for whatever reason, just never jelled, or inexplicably, weren’t taught proper tackling techniques according to Richt.

I sincerely hope that’s the case because if the opposite is true, Mark Richt has made it very clear that he’s sticking by his coaches no matter what. The implications of that decision-assuming these two coaches are truly not up to snuff-presages a very dim future for UGA football.

I’m as big a Georgia fan as anyone, but I thought the option has been a well-established, legit offense for some 35-40 years now. Half the nation used to run it, and OU and Nebraska won a boatload of national championships with that offense. It’s anything but a gimmick.

No excuses for losing to Tech, they simply executed a little better than we did. And our defense stinks. Maybe we need a gimmicky defense, because the one we’ve used for the past 8 years isn’t working anymore.

Anyone else getting a little tired of our coaching staff blaming the players for poor tackling, special teams play, etc.? If the guys out there aren’t doing the job, then sit them down and try someone else. When I see the same players making the same mistakes from August to November and apparently suffering no loss of playing time as a consequence, I don’t blame them. That’s on the coaches.

For the tech idiots on here…it was a good win for PJ and your program. Enjoy it.

For the rest of you decent folks out there, I agree with many of your comments. My concern is not that there were 3 losses but the perfomances in those losses. It seems to me that there is a talent gap growing between UGA and UF. That talent gap is exacerbated by the difference in coaching quality between the two schools. Alabama crushed us with inferior athletes and far superior coaching (and will soon have superior athletes). Tech out-coached us too (and their players are only going to get better).

How should we feel about a next year when 3 of the 4 best players on offense, that we want back, will be gone?

What about a next year that brings back the defensive coordinator and special teams coach that were a joke all season?

The former is a shame and the latter is an even bigger shame.

I am hoping we can get to a winning record and an early December Bowl game that pays about 15 bucks.

I am also hoping that we can keep the arrests under 20 during the off-season.

At no point during next season do I see Coach Richt holding any of the coaches or players accountable for another year of under-performance or their lack of discipline on or off the field.

Paul Johnson, Urban Meyer, and Nick Saban demand a high level of performance while Coach Richt seems to make excuses for poor performances. Until that changes we’ll beat the likes of those coaches 1 out of 10 times (as long as we break out a different color shirt or a celebration gimmick).

And that is the biggest shame of all.

I am dreading watching Javon Ringer run over our safeties on Jan 1st…he’s pretty big, we should leave Rashad Jones in Athens for the game.

Bill, I’m a bit disappointed in your comments the past several blogs. I don’t expect you to be a Mary Sunshine optimist about all things Bulldawg, but I think you are being a bit harsh nontheless. We had a devastating loss to two senior players , one of offense, and one on defense, before the season even started. We had to re-jigger the O-line numerous times. Yes, our defense and special teams left a lot to be desired, and yes, it hurt me to lose to Tech. That being said, I went to every game this year except Kentucky, and the only time I was really disappointed with our team was in the Florida gme. That’s the first (and, hopefully, THE LAST) time I’ve ever seen a CMR team seem to give up before the last second ticked off of the clock.

By Michael Scharff

December 8, 2008 1:14 PM | Link to this

Realist, are you KIDDING me? I don’t have the stats to back it up, and I don’t have time at work to look it up. However, based on headlines alone, Florida has at least as many discipline problems as we do. They also have a bunch of very talented players, yes. But, what they have that I think we lack is a true Leader on the field. I think, from what I can see, that Matthew Stafford is a very good q.b. with a cannon for an arm. However, (and note again, I attended EVERY game this year except Kentucky), Matthew just doesn’t seem to exhibit the same fire and leadership that Tebow exhibits for the Gators. Tebow promised the Gator Nation after the Ole Miss loss that he would take personal responsibility for the rest of the season, and boy, has he delivered so far.

By Realist

Agreed. And that is a haunting prospect. All year listening to “You only beat Florida ‘cause Tebow was hurt.” Well that seems to have become a very true statement.

Don’t you think that Florida seems to be taking great athletes and caoching them up while we seem to be taking great athletes and coaching them down?

I love the dawgs and hate Florida but I don’t see much to get real excited about right now—except for the possiblity of some foolish GM drafting Rashad Jones.

Maybe Garner should sprinkle in a few leaders as recruits. Why do our leaders have to be walk-ons or JUCO tranfers?

I don’t think that you will ever see a Tech blogger call UGA fans names and if you watched the same game that I did you would have seen that it isn’t a gimmicky offense at all…as a matter of fact we ran the same few plays over and over and over. Muttlanders, for years and years, you folks dominated Florida. Now, it is the exception rather than the rule for Muttland to win against the Gators.

For years, you have dominated Tech, and much of it, but not all, had to do with our stupidity, like hiring Gailey.

I don’t know if the series will go our way from now on or not, but tea leaves sure do look as if they will.

Your behavior recently proves not only were you folks sore winners, but also sore losers.

Think of these numbers:

  • 16 of the 22 starters for Tech were Freshmen and/or Sophmores

  • Less than 50 percent of the offense has been installed.

  • Forget the gimmicks, it’s all about blocking and tackling. I thought you folks knew that.

The Bottom Line: Alabama stole your manhood once. Florida stole your manhood next. Then Tech stole your manhood once more and again.

I lack fundamental social skills to function in the real world, so I hide in my lab so I don’t have to face the reality that I’m really not supperior, because what I have in technical intelligence, I lack in common sense. I really don’t make as much money as I let on. The people who went to my school who make the most, are usually the ones who graduated with a 2.0 to 2.5 GPA but have the social skills to function in the business world. These people also took the time absorb more knowledge in their actual field. I, on the other hand, was so concerned with having a 4.0 that I never took the time to retain any of this knowledge to apply to the work place after graduation.

I also think that because the Georgia blog took a pot shot at our fans, even though there is some truth to what he said (though not entirely), I think he is classless and is a typical Bulldawg fan. When someone points out that the GT blog writer does the same thing more often, I choose to ignore it because I it destroys my opinion of how I view Georgia fans and Tech fans.

(On a serious note, both bloggers are out of line for doing this. Us Ga and GT fans do this all the time in our responses to each other in fun, well most of the time it’s in fun. However, it is different for these guys because they should have a professional responsibilty given the AJC recognizes them as official fan blogs for the AJC. Both should act accordingly.)

Bill on the Stafford & Moreno staying or they will not be FAMOUS like WALKER? Walker left after his Jr. year too. He just happened to have a Heisman and a Ring when he left. WALKER left for the money and went to the USFL hahaha. Trump placed $1 Million in cash on a table in front Walker and a contract to sign. Please don’t say that Matt & Moreno owe the fans a damn thing to be a UGA Great. Tech is DELUSIONAL and UGA is ELITE? What cooked-up in a trailer or grown near the deer stand have you been smoking? UGA has been good many times but ELITE is consistancy and that UGA has never been. Well, I guess it is time to kill off UGA VII he had a bad season too. Was nice to see both your basketball teams back the football team this week by only scoring 42 points too. Recently, Georgia has been considered elite. In the last 7 years, UGA has finished in the top 10 six of those years. In the same span, only USC has topped this. Also, Georgia’s six 10 win seasons in the last 7 years has only been topped by USC and Texas in the same time frame. I would call that among the elite and very consistent, even though there has been no MNC in that period. Now, if you want to look further back and say that Georgia hasn’t been consistent, you would be right. However, you could say that about any program, because everyone has had their down periods.

And i think when he says delusional, he is refering to the Tech fans who think they are now all of sudden a dynasty. No doubt what Paul Johnson has done this year and what I believe will continue to do with Tech is a definite upgrade from 5 win Chan. But to say it is all of a sudden a dynasty after 6 straight seasons of not finishing in the top 25 and 7 straight 5 loss seasons is getting a little carried away. I’m not saying that they can’t become a dynasty, but it’s ridiculous to say that after one season.

Bill, I know I am rehashing here but Dawg fans aren’t so much disappointed at the record as they way the team performed all year. We got totally THROTTLED by Fla. and Ala. We barely beat Tenn. and Auburn in terrible years for them. We fought very hard to beat SC, Vandy and KY and these wins should be givens.

I hope CMR will evaluate carefully His performance this season. Worst since he has been at GA. As I understand it Richt’s job is to produce the best football season possible for his employer and sometimes this means making tough decisions about players and coaches.

I wish CMR would adopt the policy of KILLING your opponent like Meyer and Stoops. 1) pervents injuries to starters when subs are playing parts of the second half. 2) gives subs playing time - our mediocre season would have been much worse had we lost Stafford to injury as our back up QB’s had little experience. 3) we are in the BCS computer ranking era and coaches, computers like wide margins of victory.

UGA fans need to grow up. Stop calling for coaches’ heads. Don’t become like these other SEC teams that are running great coaches out of town after what they’ve done.

And yes, I’d like UGA to earn a BCS title as much as the next guy, but there’s too much risk in firing a coach who has proven that he can get there than to try and find the next up and coming coach that might get there.

Not every coach will win a BCS title. Maybe Coach Richt’s staff never wins one, but the next guy could prove to be even more inept at getting to the title game.

Stick with the man who has been winning.

I can understand the Tech fans’ excitement with their program. After so many years of mediocrity, they have a coach who expects to win and instills discipline in his players. Look at what he had to work with his first year, both in number, seniority, and quality of scholarship athletes. Look at what we had, with a coach who is now the dean of the SEC coaches. Anyone would expect UGA to destroy Tech and we did in the first half. Down 28-12 at halftime, how many expected Tech to win, besides Coach Johnson and his staff.

Folks, this is not an aberration, but I have confidence in Coach Richt that he will fix this and we will win the Capital One Bowl and compete again next year for the SEC crown.

By Dennis

December 8, 2008 9:01 PM | Link to this

Bill, The biggest mistake that UGA makes is continually applying an attitude of carryover from one year to the next. Each year is independent and one has nothing to do with the other. Last year UGA was caught up in the euphoria of beating UF and thought they were better than they were and ESPN agreed. This year the darling was Texas Tech until they got stomped. UGA on paper will have a good shot at great things next year but will have to let this year fade into the past. Same for Tech. They can’t let this year bleed too much into next year or they will be behind the eight ball just like UGA.

When you strip it down UGA did too much celebrating at the beginning of the season just like they did after the first score in the UF game. Only this year they just celebrated and forgot to play the rest of the game.

Dawgs fans get a new view of the real world. After the loss to Ga TECH and pulling their heads out of Richt’s butt for the last 7 years the dawgfans see they ain’t as good as they think. This off-season, following the MSU beatdown, should be interesting. If Matt leaves that might not be a bad thing in the long run. Matt is not a TRUE LEADER with the EGOs on this team. He will not be the kind of leader a NFL team needs either. NoShow needs to go because he is second best in the state now and it will get worse next year. Bama 9(att) for 34(yrds), UF 17(att) for 65(yrds), and USC 20(att) for 79(yrds)=good D no yards. Only 7 100+ yard games against 10 Ok teams.

Due to the number of calls and letters I have gotten about the loss to Tech, let me explain how my Saturday went and how I let this happen to our pack of beloved bulldogs.

I was pulling into town in my Built FORD tough truck. I stopped by the TV station to do a few Promo spots for the new “Mark Richt Christmas” Which airs Christmas Day….Dont miss it.

After pressing the flesh with some of the common folk around town I decided to stop by the Church and pray for those misguided folks from Atlanta. Once done I headed over to the field and did some promo spots for the new “Mark Richt, Inside the SEC” which will air before the SEC Championship game….Dont miss it!

I looked at the dawgs and could tell that they were ready to go have some fun. I told them to have at it and away we went. I wish I had paid a little more attention that day. I wish I had spent a little more time preparing and less time focusing on the upcoming episode of “Trading Spaces, Richt and Martinez Families”.

In 1986, the NCAA made it harder for athletes to qualify for a scholarship by adding a minimum SAT score of 700. Graduation rates at Georgia, and elsewhere in college sports, rose.

The tolerance for cheating at Georgia did not abate entirely. Earlier this year, the current president, Michael Adams, lost credibility when his basketball coach, Jim Harrick, was forced out in the wake of allegations of academic fraud involving former player Tony Cole.

But the athletic department’s latest troubles are in spite of the efforts of the now-retired Kemp, who after her case continued to highlight what she considered problems in the Georgia program. She sleeps well in her mortgage-free home knowing she did her part in identifying academic corruption

Please shut up Bill King. I am a UGA fan and am satisfied with 9-3. Its just what I predicted preseason given the schedule. Its actually more remarkable given the injuries. We lost to the #1 team in the country and the #4 team and we lost to a hungry, very good GT team.

These dog players on defense are simply not as talented as previous groups. Bottom line. Some of the recruits ala R Jones have not panned out as hoped.

Special teams does need work, I suspect we played the number of walk ons this year out of fear of further injuries which would make sense.

Blair Walsh did have a rockie season as mnay freshmen kickers do, he lost his confidence.

As far as legacy goes, give me a break. Knowshown did his part and we should all wish him well moving forward. The bottom line is a running back only has so many carries in his body, why should he come back? He should go get his NFL money now. Matthew too has done his part, I wish him well either way. Unfortuantly during his time at UGA we failed to give him a consistent oline. If the rules of the NFL will change, then I say to him go get your money.

Those two gentlemen did their job. Yes, no SEC titles but a #2 finish overall in 2007 and what will most likely be a top 15 in 2008.

Also, remember this….you did beat Chan Gailey six years in a row, but the last 5 times that you played Tech with a coach NOT named Gailey, you have lost 4 out of 5. Let it sink in dawgies….reality bites.

Why is Michael Carvell(Recruiting Page)the only blog master on the AJC who sets reasonable standards for posters/posts? No objectionable “screen names” or inappropriate comments. Were they supposed to change everything just because of losing a few games to some pretty good teams? Please keep quiet if you don’t know what you’re talking about ala Pi$$on - Bobo came after EZ you moron. Zeier threw the TD that rubbed it into the Bumbling Bee’s faces and then Bobo threw the TD that broke their little insect hearts in ‘97. I think they both were great QB’s just for those two plays!

You’re incapable of reading an entire, but very short blog. The initial point was The Dawgs couldn’t even lose well but the primary point was the following;

With Richt covering for Martinez the responsibility for the entire mess next season will be his. Since I have to spell it out for you, he must fire Martinez after the Bowl Game, get a Firebreathing DC in there and play ball next season.

You’re obviously not an alum or even a Dawg Fan so I don’t expect you to comprehend this. Simply re-read the initial blog and this time don’t stop at the first paragraph.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. While I can’t blame Stafford or Moreno if they do go, they haven’t won me over in terms of greatness. It would take another season with some convincing wins to do that.

I suppose what hurts the most is that when you take the three losses and combine those with the games we looked horrible in, our complete season looked like sh!t. From beginning to end, we sucked and Sports Illustrated and the AP got it wrong, along with all of the Bulldog Nation.

Loosing to Tech is by far the worst thing that happened this season though. I can’t stand seeing all of these dorks crawling out of the woodword. I had a homely looking middle aged woman in a house dress say to me that she “would be ashamed to wear that shirt,” referring to my Dawgs shirt. I responded with, “Why is that?” She said, “Not a good season for Georgia,” following it up with “GO JACKETS! GO JACKETS! GO JACKETS!”

If I were a little younger, less mature, and she were a he, I would’ve spit in her face.

I’ve got nerds that don’t even know me walking up and talking sh!t. Half of them, from the looks, probably watch an average of one quarter of football every two years.

Much disappointment will befall the nerd faithful after this 9-4 season (LSU’s defense will feast on the triple fumble offense). All the stars in the galaxy lined up just right for PJ this year, but look for him to churn out a steady diet of 7-5s and 6-6s over the next 5-6 years. Bottom line, Tech just can’t pony up when it comes to the big bucks and big time that great coaches seek. Deal with it. Your relationship with PJ is only a temporary arrangement. Bill - Call Tech’s triple option a gimmick or a high school offense or whatever you want. You just better hope you can at least slow it down some next year. Eventually all the doubters will realize that if the offense is run well, there is no way to stop it. It’s absurd to say it won’t work in big time college ball because the athletes are better than at Navy, GSU, etc. In case you haven’t noticed, the guys running the ball are better, too!

By Garrett

Bill, I have read your blogs many times and have always enjoyed reading them, except for the past couple of months. It seems all you want to do is criticize, especially Martinez. Obviously, it is evident you want him gone and that is perfectly acceptable. I believe much of the Bulldog nation agrees. Yet, after watching games against Auburn and Tech, I really believe it is our players. I believe Martinez is a great coach who has great schemes, it is just our players don’t execute them. It seems like Martinez is the only one who on our D who gets motivated and fired up (besides Rennie Curran). Martinez pretty much had the same D coming back from 07, which was a pretty good bunch. That to me shows it is the players who are not executing. You can’t blame the loss to Tech on Willie, it was our players. They didn’t tackle, thought the game was won by halftime, and just let Tech play elementary ball with them.

Yes this was a disappointing year, but it just seems like you are getting more negative and negative. I will take a 10 win season any day than an 8-4 mark, are you kidding me? I believe in Coach Richt and our Staff and I think it is time for you to stop complaining and start supporting our Bulldogs.

UGA fans, during the holiday season, you should give thanks that Vandy, KY, Auburn and other assorted patsies remain on your schedule so you can pursue that nat champ that exists only in your heads. Its great to beat UGA so that for a full year I get a few chuckles from the general stupidity expressed on this blog.

“wreckmaniac” Hope you enjoy your once-every-decade opportunity to crow. However, it will be an empty house that you “crow” in since most of the regulars have left for the holidays and I’m off to join them. GEAUX TIGERS.

BTW, turn off the lights when you leave…if you can reach the switch.

If I WAS COACHING A COLLEGE TEAM AND SEVERAL OF MY UNDER CLASSMEN WOULD NOT PROMISE THEY WERE GOING TO RETURN FOR ANOTHER YEAR,THEY COULD WATCH THE BOWL GAME FROM THE DORM.

the petty bulldogs are now a bunch of bull-dykes!

The MSU Spartans are going to be bringing their swords and will beheading some bull-dykes on January 1st.

Please… please…. don’t fire willie! He’s our version of reggie ball! Please keep him on the staff along with all the other “loose” lack of discipline coaches including MR.

There’s a new Sheriff in Town and his name is Johnson. And he’ll be sticking it to you for a long time!

Later bull-dyke nation!

IDIOT ALERT

the article written shows the obvious delusion and lack of perspective typical of those with a sub-standard education and the problem of wearing red pants in public.

First, Reshad Jones is an All-SEC safety, so maybe he wants to make money, especially knowing that both Moreno and Stafford are gone and Georgie hopes to beat any of the top teams they face, like Georgia Tech and Florida.

how many titles has Georgie challenged for in the last 20 years? I will tell you: NONE. Tech won one in 1990, but Georgie has to go 10 years further back to find one.

i know, i know, 7 in a row and yada yada yada. tough SEC competition and all. well, after the Jackets beat their 3rd SEC team of the year, and the SEC has a losing record against the ACC this season, you can finally shut your pie hole.

Georgie fans should be used to under-achievement. the team performs similarly to the fanbase in that respect

It has to really suck to be a Dog fan this day and time. Started out at number 1, and every professional media outlet knew the Dogs were overrated and it was a self-fulfilling prophecy.

For some reason Athens is totally in love with CMR and but I suspect for all the wrong reasons.

The Dog program is totally out of control with the basis being on the field discipline. Allowing 70 to 80 years of penalties game after game never allow your program to reach the next level.

Your players are cocky and lack the necessary focus and discipline to win the big games, and this my fried is lack of quality coaching.

I have said if before and I will say it again, CMR will be gone in 5 years or less to return to Miami after Shannon steps down.

UGA is only a D1-AA stepping stone to his real dream job with a program that actually has a shot at winning a title, and that my friend is Miami.
