It’s crunch time
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I’ve talked to a bunch of UGA fans this week, and I’d say the mood about Saturday’s game is cautiously optimistic, with the two keys being whether our young, injury-riddled, patchwork offensive line can keep the Tigers’ “Express” rush out of the Georgia backfield long enough and, conversely, whether the Dawgs can mount enough pressure on LSU’s two young QBs without having to resort to the blitz constantly.
I think our defense stacks up pretty well against LSU’s offense. On the other side of the ball, LSU’s defense isn’t as highly ranked in the conference as some we’ve faced this season, but you know they’re going to bring the house against Matthew Stafford, especially if it’s third and long. And we didn’t handle third and long too well against Vandy.
What Stafford has to do is get rid of the ball quickly, but I’m hoping Mike Bobo will rethink all those screen passes he’s been calling lately. I still don’t understand why we’re not dunking it over the line to backs and tight ends. Heck, put both fullbacks in or both tight ends in, keep one to block and toss it to the other. At least, it’s positive yardage, unlike those screens. Like they tell running backs, move north-south, not east-west. The screens haven’t worked that well and at times haven’t even been well-designed plays. Like last week when we threw it out to A.J. Green without any blockers near him. What’s the point of that? Even if he gets past the first man, he’s nearly always double-covered and his odds of getting past the second are slim.
That’s kind of how a lot of fans seem to be viewing Georgia’s schedule: While we may get past one of the next two teams, they say, the odds are long against winning both games. If Georgia loses one, it would hurt less for it to be to LSU, since they’re in the SEC West and beating Florida would keep us alive in the East, which is the most important thing. But, at least on paper, the LSU game looks like the more winnable one.
Then there are the fans who refuse to even consider such scenarios. Georgia’s got the talent to win out, they say. The Dawgs just have to finally put it all together and have that breakout game everyone’s been expecting, and then success will feed on success, like late last season.
Great team or good team? The next two games will tell.

Bottom line, if we hold out the LSU Dline, we win. If we can’t, we lose. Our defense will hold down the LSU offense enough to present enough opportunities. Like with all of our games, we can match up, skill position wise, with any team in the country. In the trenches, we haven’t been able to get enough of a push either way to really assert ourselves. In the red zone, WE MUST SCORE TOUCHDOWNS! If we can get to 21 points, we will be in it to the end. If we bog down, a la against TN, we could be in for a brutal Saturday in Baton Rouge.

Best line in the article was beating Florida would keep us in the SEC East Race. I thought you guys were going to the National Championship Game, but your worried about just winning the SEC East. Like I said at seasons start 8-4 and no SEC East title. 5 games left and only one true home game against a better than usual Ga. Tech makes it hard to believe UGA will not lose 2 of these game and go at least 9-3. Of course that also means no more players get hurt or arrested.
Go Coach BILL CURRY and GSU. 2010 will be great. If CMR had 1% of the class Curry does, then no Dawgs would get arrested or would never see another game afterwards.

You know it is crunch time. We know it is crunch time. But, do “they”(the team)know it is crunch time? We’ll see.

Your point about “dinks” to the fullbacks/tight ends is well-taken. It is the answer to the redzone problems. Inside the 20 and certainly inside the 10, the wideouts will be well covered. A fullback or tight end will be wide open.

Bill…Why in God’s name do you print ruminations like that 10:58 trash? That isn’t freedom of speech. It is the freedom to be a classless and cowardly sniper hiding behind a computer. It is sick and has nothing of value to add to a discussion of football.

PI$$ on a dawg,
You have the nerve to speak about class with a name like that ? I’ll take you up on your little prediction with a bet. If UGA wins Saturday, beats florida, UK,Aubie and Tech, you never get on this blog again ?
how bout that ?
Everyone on here would be very appreciative. Or, you could just slither back into your hole. Either way, we win.

Isn’t a screen pass a perfect call against an overly-aggressive sell-out pass rush?

Georgia has better personnel overall than Florida. With Ellerbe and Southerland back and the jelling that has taken place the past two years toward the end of the season (Auburn game 2006, Florida game 2007), there’s no reason we can’t win them all. But you have to play the games and anything can happen. I like Georgia against LSU and I’ll be there, as I was when Quincy Carter had his best game ever and when we lost in the last 4 minutes with David G and company. Let’s do it, Dawgs!

Auburn needs and OC. Why don’t you apply? If hired, you could try your little dump pass scheme for real and not on paper.

My fellow dawg fans need to chill out. Pi$$ on a Dawg has every right to post on our blog. I am glad that he does. We need people like him. Pi$$ on a Dawg is amazing. I mean, seriously, I only post on UGA blogs a couple times a week at most. I lack dedication. But Pi$$ on a Dawg, he’s got several posts on all of our blogs and he’s not even a UGA fan. That’s dedication! I could never do that. I can’t do it now because I have a demanding career and a wife, etc. But honestly, I couldn’t do it when I was younger because I had friends to see, shots to drink and cute girls to date. All I’m saying is cut Pi$$ on a Dawg a break. I know, I know. Some of you think he’s a loser who has nothing better to do than troll UGA blogs and spew incomprehensible venom but that’s not fair. You don’t know him. You don’t know his problems, insecurities, etc. I’m sure he’s a fine guy who just needs the right woman (or guy, let’s be politically correct) to straighten him out. Pi$$ on a Dawg, don’t let these insensitive UGA fans get to you. I’m rooting for you. Anywho, let’s hope our boys can whip them cajuns in the yelleaux britches. Go DAWGS!!!!!!!!

I think BooBoo gets too cute a lot of times. I just don’t understand why he refuses to play basic football sometimes-5 yard slants, 5 yard outs. Everyone says Matthew has the best arm in the country. BooBoo apparently thinks this means that he always has to throw the ball at least 30 yards. And if I see one more fade pass I think I’m going to throw up.

Georgia game planing this week: Bobo says to the DE coordinator, “How are you going to stop Harvin?” Martinez, “How the hell do I know!” Bobo, “How are you going to stop Demps?” Martinez, “Who the hell knows!” Bobo, “How are you going to stop Rainey?” Martinez, “Nobody knows!” Martinez, “Bobo, you better keep the ball the entire game or we have no chance! Now, shut the hell up! I am calling around for a new DC job. I know I will need one after this game.” Bobo, “Me, too! I hear Auburn needs a OC.” Richt walks in. “Boys, my wife just bought us plane tickets to the Bahammas for next weekend. See ya next Sunday! By the way, when do you think that Miami job will open up again?”

Hey - Where is “The Ohio State Buckeyes” ?
Big Mouth Buck said The Bucks would take Penn State apart and LSU would stomp The Dawgs.
Those Buckeyes look like strained baby peas against Those Lions and The Dawgs opened up a can of “Whupass” on LSU!
Well look at it this way Buck, you won’t have to lose a National Championship Game against an SEC Team this season- because you won’t get a chance to play.
