R.I.P.: A damn good Dog!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Uga VI died Friday night of a heart attack, the Savannah Morning News has reported.
The paper reported burial is planned for Sanford Stadium on Monday.
Plans had called for the white English bulldog mascot, who would have turned 10 years old in July, to have continued serving as the official UGA mascot in the upcoming football season.
The biggest of all the Uga mascots at 65 pounds, Uga VI was the first full-grown dog to take over as mascot in 27 years when he participated in a changing-of-the-collar ceremony with his movie star father, Uga V, on Sept. 11, 1999 at the Georgia-South Carolina game.
No word yet from UGA about the official succession, but it had been reported that the Sonny Seiler family of Savannah, owners of the Uga line, have an heir ready to take over as Uga VII
It’s just too bad the Bulldog Nation won’t get to say an official goodbye to a fine mascot.

Our sympathies and heartfelt thanks go out to Sonny, Cecelia, Swann, and Charles for the tremendous efforts and love they show for their (and our) Dogs. Also for the extreme patience they have with us sometimes under very trying circumstances.
UGA VI will join his ancestors fittingly in Sanford.

**Tribute To A Best Friend
Sunlight streams through window pane unto a spot on the floor…. then I remember, it’s where you used to lie, but now you are no more. Our feet walk down a hall of carpet, and muted echoes sound…. then I remember, It’s where your paws would joyously abound. A voice is heard along the road,
and up beyond the hill, then I remember it can’t be yours…. your golden voice is still. But I’ll take that vacant spot of floor and empty muted hall and lay them with the absent voice and unused dish along the wall. I’ll wrap these treasured memorials in a blanket of my love and keep them for my best friend until we meet above.

hey old dawg…UGA will lose AT LEAST two games in the regular season this fall…how in the world are you going to deal with UT - who whipped you, south carolina - who beat you at home, and florida - with a returning heisman winner, AND THEN deal with bama, DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPION lsu, and auburn in the west? not to mention you barely got by vandy and kentucky…hell, the hatch-attack from statesboro might get you 1ST GAME! quit listening to the AJC hype…keep in the mind the same paper that’S IN THE TANK for HUSSEIN obama also loves muttland for the national title…obama and UGA - both beat up in november!

Can we please get off the Georgia vs. Georgia Tech crap once in our lifetime?
This blog is about the UGA dawg and that is it. UGA fans are inviting this crap when they talk about how much the dawg had to do with beating Tech. Last time I checked the players controlled that.
Also, if I have to read one more freaking comment about how Tech sux or I expect nothing less from a Tech fan and blah blah blah I will f@*ing puke!!!
UGA fans need to stop being hypocrites and take notice of all the BS they spew on a blog about Tech. By and large they are worse on the blogs. It is not even close.
Anyway, back to what this blog is actually about:
I am sorry to hear about a beloved mascot to pass away. He definitely gave UGA some good luck and will surely be missed by the fans. Cheers to a good career on the sidelines at UGA and to the UGA baseball team for even making it to the finals. As a tech fan I look forward to the new mascot and a competitive rivalry in the future.

I am sorry about your dog. I like dogs. This comment is not directed at the posters here, but rather at the AJC. The listing of a real obituary for any animal alongside a human being is disgraceful. I don’t care if it was a famous dog or a unknown family pet. A dog is not a human and posting such a listing is the height of crass, unprofessionalism by this newspaper.
Now before you jump on me because I am a Tech man, I ask you: would you want to open the paper tomorrow morning or go online to see the listing of a spouse, parent, child or sibling and see their obituary listed along with any animal?

I’m sorry the dog died and all, but who cares? This is NOT a legitimate news story and I can’t believe the AJC is covering it. I mean, with all due respect, english bulldogs are among the dumbest of all AKC breeds out there, so its not like he knew what was going on anyway. I have a feeling that UGA VII will never beat CPJ and his resurrected GT team.

Finance Buzz, if you don’t see the importance and historical significance of this fine creature, you really don’t understand what it means to be a fan of anything. This was not just an animal, this was a live representation of the Bulldog Nation. Would this anonymous parent, spouse, etc you speak of have a line to get their autograph (pawprint)? Do they have children waiting for hours to get their picture taken with them? Do they cause 92000 people to wildly cheer when they arrive at work? I honestly wouldn’t mind if one of the UGAs was memorialized on the same page as I was. Getting upstaged by a beloved legacy? Sic ‘em!

I dont care how famous the dog was. My son died 17 days after he was born and if I opened the paper to read his obit and saw that it was next to a dog, I would be very upset. SHAME ON THE AJC!!! God, I love the South but we have some stupid people. How old do you have to be before you comprehend a necessary time to throw fisticuffs and when is not? Capt. Howdy, that is sad. I don’t care how many people waited to meet a dog or cheered for him. And who cares what he was the living representation of? Hey BADDAWG, I don’t know how old you are, but my uncle was the Coach of the Packers a long time ago and I hear he is well known down there. He’s Babe White and a helluva man.
I took my son to the Georgia Day about 2 years ago which was held at the practice field. He’s in a wheelchair, thanks to a tractor trailer, but Matt Stinchcomb met us and took us up to the covered venue where all the players gathered.
UGA VI was laying on his ice bags, but his handlers took him off and led him over to my son to take a picture. I think they both loved it.
UGA will be missed. It’s not like our own pet. This pet HAS to be remade. This IS the Bulldog Nation. Most of us understand this. Pets die. But BULLDOGS last forever.

tech wins #35-#59 (check the US news & world report college rankings)
tech wins 4-1 (national championships - and that supposed title in 1942 doesn’t count)
tech wins 12-6 (siaa + southern conference + sec (up to 1963) titles - tech (1916, 1917, 1918, 1920, 1921, 1922, 1927, 1928, 1939, 1944, 1951, & 1952, while u[sic]ga - 1896, 1920, 1942, 1946, 1948, & 1959)

Zeb you could search the world over and not find a finer man than Tom “babe” White. I played football for coach White….I have lived here all my life and have yet hear ANYONE say one bad or derogatory word about coach White. He has had a very positive influence on many, many in this small town…young and old alike. By the way, the last a$$ whipping I had was from coach White during 10th grade PE. It was the end of the year and our city swimming pool was right next to the high school…the last 2 weeks of school we got to swim at PE every day….He told me to do something and I ignored him…he yanked my tail out of that pool and gave me 3 hard licks with his trusty paddle, and all i had on was a wet bathing suit!!!! I remind him about that to this day…..His health is failing now, but he was and is “a hell of a good man”. FinanceBuzz…not afraid or ashamed to post my address here…I dont have to sit here anonamously behind a keyboard if I have something to say to you or TO HELL WITH GA. Stupid? Maybe in your opinion. Hope you dont think for a split second that i care or am concerned about your opinion. I have dsone quite well for myself and my family over the years and enjoy a comfortable, enjoyable lifestyle. Tom. Truly appreciate your concern regarding my mental health. I have been off ridalin for years by the way. Take zanex, lexapro, and welbutrin now. Get it from the local health department thru the indigent care program. Thank God for that program which enables me to get my meds free….times been hard since i got fired from McDonalds couple of months back!!! State owned van picks me up to take me to the health department. Talk about a blessing…my 1978 raised F-150 was picked up by Speedy Cash…the title loan place. No need to reply to these cretins from the Trade School or threaten to fight them.
Just let them show themselves for the classless, tasteless and most of all pathetic losers they are.
And, amid the sadness over the loss of a fine mascot and a beloved family pet, take some amusement in their delusional predictions of what sort of change “CPJ” will bring to their mediocre program.

Dear jacketjohn, Financebuzz and To Hell With Georgia:
It is out of respect for the inherent sanctity of life that most human beings revere their pets. Dogs and cats can be loyal and loving; they can provide the companionship that all people crave (and that not all people are fortunate enough to have); and they deserve our respect for their roles in our lives.
It has been shown that psychopaths typically get their start by maiming and torturing animals. Normal human beings have a respect for life as the miracle that it is, even if that life is manifested in the guise of an animal. That’s why children with pets are better parents as adults (it’s true; look it up).
Uga VI was an iconic mascot. Moreover, he was a sweet, loving dog, and the symbol of the capstone academic institution of the University system of Georgia—the institution which has had BY FAR the greatest impact on this state over its illustrious 270-year history.
Those of you who wish to turn this into an athletic rivalry blog can go elsewhere. This blog is to mourn the passing of a damn good dawg—an animal who represented his university, and his state, quite well. Uga VI is one animal that I would be proud to share an obituary page with. I’d be willing to bet that the majority of normal folks out there would feel the same way.
For the three of you listed at the top, just go away. You aren’t wanted here. This is for fans and dawg lovers only. You can save your irrelevant claptrap for The Hive or some other partisan site. No one here wants to read it.

TO HELL WITH GA. As much as I hate GT I will be the first to admit that GT did indeed have their glory years in football….they were a power in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. BUT as i stated GT has not been to a major bowl since 1956…that is a fact. The pious holier than thou people in control of GT athletics at the time…early 60’s decided that GT was bigger than the SEC….thought they would be another Notre Damn…and withdrew from the SEC. A fatal mistake to this day and for many, many years to come as far as your atheletic programs are concerned!!! Yet yall are too PROUD to admit it. And as a result have VERY little to be proud of period anymore concerning athletic achievement and status. In the mean time you come up with a 1001 excuses as to why you cant compete….size of the school(look at Notre Dame and Miami). A most often repeated excuse is “we cant recruit the same type of athletes because of our academics…..at one time…that was true…not since the early 70’s when you created majors just to make it easier for your athletes to get in and stay in school!!! Two examples that i know to be factual….Joe Burns…he sat in MY son’s 9th grade algebra class when he was a senior and still had to have tutoring to pass that class. That was at TCCHS in Thomasville. He also had to take the SAT 6 or 7 times to make the required score. In the early to mid 80’s Tyrone Sorrells….an all american HS TE from Buford signed with UGA. This was pre-Jan Kemp scandle and law suit(yes it was embarassing…the fact that UGA had used a remedial studies program for borderline students…most of whom were athletes) Now this story really gets interesting..and it can be researched in the AJC archives…Sorrells struggled even in the remedial studies program at UGA (btw he made 460 on the SAT per article in AJC). After leaving UGA and having to sit out a year he transferred…..LOW AND BEHOLD he transferred to GT. Not only did he get into Tech….he stayed in school and started 2 years at OT under coach Bill Curry!!!!! LOOK IT UP. Say what makes you feel better in making excuses for your ineptitude in your football program if it makes you feel better. Fact is yall recruit the same kids we do.
For those of us who like to argue (including tossing barbs and trading insults to the others respective schools football programs and which one is superior or better……WHY DO ANY OF US NEED LOOK FURTHER THAN OUR HEAD TO HEAD RECORD…..WHY IS THAT SO HARD FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND??? For the last 45 years UGA has owned GT. Yall are our female dog!!!! And will be for the forseable future!!! You now like to talk about how many games we are gonna lose this year…and we may indeed lose 2 or 3 games with out schedule…..BUT however many losses we have….it wont be to Tech. If it makes you feel better to take pleasure and point out who else beats us…if that is what you need to make you feel better about your miserable program…then have at it!!!! But please keep in mind that I and most other UGA fans recieve immense pleasure EVERY time you have to point out that another team other than Tech can beat us, knowing you RARELY do anymore!!!! In the mean time…..see you in Nov. for your yearly a$$ whipping!!!!

hey BADDAWG - some points well taken. the fact remains, however, that we still are above you by 20 spaces in the best overall colleges list. we have remained in the top 10 public universities from the time that little “north avenue trade school” was beating you three years in a row. it seems you missed that when tech and u[sic]ga were in the SAME CONFERENCE playing the SAME OPPONENTS at the SAME TIME (viz. the “before 1963” comment) tech ran over you.
if you wanna talk “scandle”s, let’s just look at the u[sic]ga basketball team from the past year with all the arrests and players kicked off the team…you get lucky over four games at our place and the whole “world” forgets how much you sucked during the season.
how many u[sic]ga grads have walked on the moon?
has the knock off of the battle hymn of the republic you claim as a fight song ever been sung in space directly in front of the Lord (the ramblin’ wreck was the 1st school fight song sung in space)?
was the knock off of the battle hymn of the republic you claim as a fight song sung on higgins boats over the channel on 6 june 1944 on the way to knocking back the nazis?
how many years after us did you have to wait until you won a rose bowl?
and let’s talk recent football history…for all the big talk u[sic]ga fans do about their team and how great they think their team is compared with the rest of the nation, the fact remains that over the last 25 YEARS, your school has just as many national titles and mine does - ONE - and ours is more recent. in the last 25 YEARS, you’ve won just as many conference titles as we have - TWO (and you didn’t have florida state (and later miami - who we own now) - who’ve both ruled football overall over that time period - in your conference).
how in hell do you get a B[C]S bowl AT HOME and go down by FOUR TOUCHDOWNS IN THE FIRST QUARTER before you begin to try to play a game of football (west virginia in the 2006 sugar bowl).
u[sic]ga fancies themselves as powerful as southern cal, oklahoma, lsu, florida state, and michigan over the last 20+ years, but the fact remains that you are really no better than that “north avenue trade school” in the stats that count - conference and national titles. i think many u[sic]ga fans know this but don’t like to admit it openly. if you read the atlanta urnial-constipation, you’d think y’all have the title already wrapped up. i’m just saying (1) you’re nowhere nearly as great as you’d like others to think you are, and (2) you’ve got a TOUGH row to hoe this fall before you even get to come to the dome for the sec championship game…..IF YOU WIN YOU’RE DIVISION THIS TIME…

My, my, my. Such venom, insults and snide comments out of a few Tech fans. Like I said before, most Tech fans I know have much more class that the sorry bunch posting such hate here.
But, you have to understand that a lot of Tech fans just don’t get what UGA VI meant to us. He was a part of every one of us 92,000 screaming fans at home games. Other SEC fans would line up to get a picture taken with UGA VI. Buzz is a decent mascot, but he (or she) just doesn’t generate the heartfelt love that Georgia fans have for UGA.
If LSU announced that Mike the Tiger passed, or UT announced that Smokey died, other SEC schools would understand what they are feeling. THe only ACC school that would come close to understanding is Florida State, who has Renegade, their horse.
We just can’t expect Tech fans to understand how we feel. But, think of how we’ll feel at the first home game, when they put that collar and jersey on UGA VII, and over 92,000 fans are standing and shouting as one “DAMN GOOD DOG”!

I am a profound animal lover, but y’all are attributing things to a dog that was just that, a dog. You pet him, feed him, walk him, he is happy. But truthfully, he really didn’t give a d@mn about a football game - that is not what they are there for. As long as he got his meals, walk and some attention.
As to the liberal tree hugger w the remarks about George Carlin - go check his works…he thinks (thought) you are (were) an egotist for presuming to think that there is any long lasting human effects to our planet that has been around for billions of years. This planet will be here long after we are gone!
If you want to get riled up about something, try getting riled up about the folks dealing with the floods in the midwest…if UGA VI was all you say he was, he would prefer you think about them than him being buried in a marble tomb

Rest in peace, Uga VI. You were a DGD. Thanks for the memories.
It has been a tough week for the Bulldog Nation: first the meltdown in Omaha; then yet another basketball player gets kicked off the team for being stupid; now Uga dies. They say bad things happen in 3’s … well, I sure hope this is it for a while.
On a side note, these blogs are hilarious. People’s comments make for fascinating reading, ROTFLOL. I am sitting here at the home computer in Cleveland with a frosty mug of cold milk and fresh-from-the-oven chocolate chip cookies with walnuts on the bottom. Sad to say, but that is my Saturday night entertainment. Some of the blog entries have made me hopping mad, while others have had me laughing out loud.
Yeah, contrary to the opinions of a few, the passing of Uga VI is a big deal. Yes, really.
Of course, sure, I know that in the grand scheme of things, with wars and rumors of wars, families struggling to make ends meet, and a poor family that lost their 17 year-old son today at Six Flags, the death of the flagship university’s mascot might take a back seat. The aforementioned issues are also huge news items that deserve their due.
But Uga VI represents the emodiment of passion that all University of Georgia alumni, students, and fans have for the Red and Black. It is a big deal when arguably the most recognizable symbol of a 35,000 student university passes away. It is a big deal when almost a quarter of a million living alumni have lost their lovable mascot. It is a big deal when the pride of a state says goodbye. Yes, I said the pride of a state. If you just moved here from somewhere else, you probably would not understand why “the dog” means so much to the rest of us.
Yes, it is a big deal that Uga VI is gone. That is why you see such prominent coverage in the AJC. The paper that “covers Dixie like the dew” is just doing its job in reporting on a story of immense STATE-WIDE interest.

I thought Uga was a good dog and I’m sad about the loss.
Can I ask this? When Michael Hutts died at Georgia Tech, why were there UGA fans coming over and making ignorant remarks about him being a drug addict and such when the young man lost his life? It doesn’t matter if he died because of drugs or not. He was a human being and he died. There was no respect for him or his family.
There are only 3 Tech fans that have come over here and acted like douchebags and I don’t condone it, but don’t act like UGA fans don’t come to the Tech blog any chance they get to bash our recruits (young men who have worked hard to earn a scholarship) or rip on a young man that lost his life because of an addiction.
We all could show some class and stop acting so pious or elitist. This is not the time be either of those things.

Wreck 7, Your’s was a thought provoking post. I have given Your ideas due consideration and I agree with most of them. I disagree with the statements about piety and elitism. More piety certainly could not hurt these blogs, and I would not label many of the people on here as elite. I have taken the mantle of tChan, not in a disrespectful way, but giving the Man all the respect He deserves. Chan is a honorable Man, regardless of what one thinks of Him as a coach. However, some of His minions, and I dishonor Chan to call them that, have taken Their time to insult a dead dog on the blogs of those that loved Him. I agree that whoever posted those comments about the young Tech man was clueless and classless. If I remember correctly, it was only one scum bag Who kept mentioning that on the Tech blogs. With that being said, how low is a man that insults a dead dog? Our goal in the Army of Chan is to rid these blogs of such low life trash forever. Does it matter what color jersey They buy at Wal-Mart? All right thinking Tech fans are invited to join us! Wait for the battle to begin!

BADDAWG….you keep quoting 1956. Here’s a hint…you are dead wrong but you go look it up. Then you go on and claim we add majors for football. Which majors would that be? I would love to hear you answer since you seem to have them. Here’s a suggestion - when we add Leisure Studies and Sport Studies, then maybe you can talk. What do you know of our academics? Ever been to school at Tech? I have a friend who has a bachelor’s and a masters from UGA. I watched what he did in some of his classes, saw some of his graduate work. I love my friend and he does well in his job, but one of his papers that was an A at UGA, might not have even accepted by a Tech prof because of the grammatical errors. I saw his full load of 15 hours as an undergrad be comprised of three classes while I had to pack on five for the same number of hours, with four of those each without a doubt just about the same work level as each of his. Our “easy” major management, is akin to your business degree in content and just how often do we see a UGA football player majoring in business? Not very from what I have seen. As for leaving the SEC hurting athletics, you might have a point. But what we gained is joining a conference where academics are embraced, where two thirds of the schools are better than all but one of the conglomeration of schools that comprise the SEC. Sports are great, I love football whether we win or lose, but on Monday it is my degree, not my football team that brings home the bacon and if we have to choose one or another, so be it.

They beat the only perfect team at that time and showed that they were the best team in college. I know that dog is going to swoop down like a angel and help these dawgs win these games.
It makes be sad but I know that ol dawg is in dawg heaven with his dad dawg and their going too watch they’re dawgs play and win every game this year.

BravesFan, you talk about purity well I ask you if you have bothered to read what I wrote? I said I liked dogs and was sorry about Uga. I also said that dogs are NOT people no matter if you want to treat them like a child or not. In addition to being a treehugger and a liberal in the south, I am guess you have an affinity for PETA?

DawgsFan1980, say what you will about winning the ACC, but in 2002, the SEC was the weakest I ever remember it. 2006 was a quality upset in the title game, but before you bash another conference’s quality, you better objectively look at your own.

VillaRica, interesting. While I have tried to be reasonable and clear on what my objection was (even if some of y’all choose to gloss over that) I will admit that some of hte comments from Tech people that make light of the death of an animal are inappropriate and I agree that that is cold. I have NOT nor WILL make such comments. My beef is with the AJC. While I think the stuff you are attributing to a dog is a bit silly, I understand you are UGA fans so naturally you have an affinity. But all those crass Tech comments - well multiply it by about ten and you will begin to grasp a little of the venom that your fans come onto Tech sites and spew. If you have not seen it, stop the denial, go on a Tech blog/site sometime and read it yourself. We have our bad apples - you have your bad trees.

KJ, I never said Gates or Buffett. I said nerds go on to accomplish things.
Wreck7, I take exception to being called a douchebag. I am sorry abotu the dog. And I really thought my initial post was reasonable. I think my friends who are UGA fans would agree that it would be inappropriate to have a dog in the real obits. I expected much agreement. I dunno, maybe you get the fringe elements on the AJC blogs, both Tech and UGA which is why I rarely check into these blogs. However, after what I thought was a reasonable post, the UGA guys makes unprovoked Tech comments, someone else starts in and a flame war erupts. So before calling your fell fans douchebags, go and consider what was said and how it was said. Even with all the debate comments, I have avoided any pot shots directly at the dog.

Allow me to clarify for you - “go on to accomplish…” was a generic summary meant to highlight that I was not suggesting Buffett or Gates were Tech alums.
And based on the comments and beahvior I read and observe from UGA people…I assure you whether they find me comical or not does not concern me. Like the young man who was barking at me passing me on the highway last night probably because I had a Tech sticker on my car. Now I ask - who looks comical?

UGA VI YOU ARE MISSED AS A MASCOT AND AS A GOOD FRIEND. DAMN GOOD DAWG!
Educational institutions hold highest standards on academics as they should. The greatest catapult of education for any human is passion. PASSION, This spark of ingenuity, performance and reward. Without passion how can we achieve the dreams we desire in life, personally or professionally? You cannot. Yes passion is learned and passion is achieved through the heart, in your heart.
There will be an UGA VII. Are you ready for the PASSION to fill Sanford Stadium? To Cheer in Red and Black Go DAWGS. We might lose a game. We might not make the Championship. We might have to face unforeseen obstacles. We might have to win when we know the numbers, the facts and the opinions weight against us. Regardless of the losses there will be the passion of the Bulldawg Nation. Good people and good friends, good times and a DAMN GOOD DAWG.
There will be an UGA VII. You cannot calculate passion. Do you know the formula? Some people are trying to figure it out, but lack the facility. Frustrated by the fact the numbers don’t quite compute the results they so desperately seek. How can they? It’s not mathematical it is miraculous. It’s beyond the human mind. Rather it is surging in the human heart. The same kind of heart with the capacity to let a little ol dog be a good ol pal. How can these Bulldawgs win? How do they win?
There will be an UGA VII. Possibly UGA VII will be the runt of the litter. How fitting? Possibly UGA VII will be the smallest UGA ever. He won’t be small in our hearts. He won’t be small in the minds of our opponents ridiculing from the other side of the field. UGA VII will loom resting on a bag of ice just outside a little old Red and Black Dog house on the sideline. How great is that? It is beyond words.
There will be an UGA VII. A new epic time for all Georgia Bulldawg fans built on the strengths of the past and the hearts and minds hungry for success, built on competition for the highest mark, and built on the steadfast satisfaction of families and friendships for a long time. There is an unsatisfactory feeling witnessing the wins of opponents. They lack the passion of the game and the excitement of life. Hey they just won, but they have no thrill. They have no cheer. They shrug off to cold landscapes of screen savers and a bewilderment of loneliness with the only offer of human touch is a mathematical machine. No, this is not for me. A heart should be alive to feel the passion of life, the losses and the wins.
There will be an UGA VII. We will thank UGA VI for a great run. We will hear the Red Coat Marching Band. We will fill Sanford Stadium beyond capacity. We will cover the Streets of a small college town before the world with Red and Black. We will see old friends and we will make new friends. We will be loud and we will be boisterous. Yes there will be loses, but that’s never stopped us. There will be wins and we know this to be true, on the field and in our hearts. We will cheer on a new Bulldawg. UGA VII.
There will be an UGA VII and We are ready.
What a DAMN GOOD DAWG!

One more thing off my chest. UGA is an embarassment to the world because you actually think your football team has done something in almost 30 years the nation cares about. Until last year, and because losses to a bad SC team and a decent UT team kept you idiots out of a major bowl game, err had you played the Trojans….I don’t call 9/10 win seasons not counting the carryover who cares bowl win. If it WASN’T for this ragtag called a newspaper, then you’d definatelly not get press like you do.

To the Auburn and Tennessee Fans on here, let me extend my thanks to you for being class acts. It really shows how strong the SEC is especially when we lose one of our own. Now as for those fans of the North Ave Trade School, its great to see how snobby and stuck up you truly are. I always defended Tech people because they were from my home state. It’s always fun to rib at each other because of a sports rivalry, but what some Tech fans (3 in particular) show on here is a total lack of class and I am now sorry for defending anyone who is associated with GA Tech. A beloved pet who passed away is just as hard on someone as losing a family member or friend. The venom that the 3 of your spout on here just shows how much of a sad life you truly live. I will pray for you but will never defend you again. To those UGA fans who are blogging back with hatred, just shut up and let these people show how truly classless they are. You mouthing off back at them just causes their grins to widen because you are falling for the bait and switch.

The Falcons are one of the most ridiculously uncompetitive franchises in sports. “At least the Falcons won a title?” Hey, no one outside of your living room recognizes that sorry bunch as the champions of anything, ever. Georgia has one two football national titles (or four, if you count ‘em the way Tech does) and 12 SEC titles. Tech has won exactly ZERO undisputed national titles (the last title was a split one in 1990), and the other “national titles” they won were all over a half century ago, which speaks to the global irrelevance of the Falcons franchise and Georgia Tech football in the world of competitive athletics.
To all of the small-minded people who made fun of Uga’s passing, or who chose to make this blog a venue for spewing out your frustrations at supporting your various losing football programs, go to hell.
To those of you who have shown class and dignity in this (especially our brothers in the SEC, who have been pretty uniformly supportive), thanks once again.

To my fellow Dawgs, please don’t feed the forum trolls. You knew they would come. You know they just want to poke at your emotions in order to get a rise out of you. The flip side is, thats all they have. We are a family and we are more successful then they are. It’s a sad side of human nature in some people to tear down anyone and anything thats doing better than themselves. Let them rant, be the bigger dawg. Besides, no response will drive them even madder.

A job well done UGA VI. RIP. I have been around a while and you were the best of the best. God speed.
To address a couple of points in this thread:
Yes, he was a dog. The symbolism runs very deep. If he didn’t mean anything to you then you are wasting your time here. But most big threads have trolls.
Secondly, I am a life long Dawg fan. But when UGA is not playing Tech, I root for Tech. It is a fine school and a fine football program. Yes, they have room for improvement right now and I expect it will be addressed. I have a lot of friends who are dawg fans and I don’t know one that HATES Tech. Again, every major thread has it’s trolls. The threads about UGA on this site seem to have more than it’s share.

OMG!! Are all of you people insane?? The only people we should feel sorry for are the owners. UGA fans didn’t lose anything! Last time I checked, the dog has nothing to do with the outcome of the games. Also, just because you are a bulldawg fan doesn’t mean you have to actually think that bulldogs are good looking. Who wants all of that drool dripping all over your floors anyways? Bull dogs are ugly and from what I here, not very bright either.

As a UGA Alumni, avid Bulldog fan and great lover of animals who is currently living in South Florida; I wish to extend my condolences to all who mourn the passing of Uga VI. He was a Joyful, Famous (hence the obituary) and Proud mascot for our University. I loved watching him lying on ice bags and lunging for members of opposing teams…As for the totally uncalled for and nasty remarks by Tech and Falcon fans….Shame On You and GROW UP! As anyone who has ever LOVED a dog knows; to lose your dog is to lose your dearest & most devoted friend…..obviously, you know little about love or devotion. RIP Uga VI.

I am fortunate enough to have an English Bulldog (UGA V’s niece), and she is far and away the smartest dog I have ever owned in my 46 years. On behalf of all real Tech Fans … those who actually attended the Institute, I extend sincere sympathies for the Bulldog Nation’s loss. UGA VI was a damn fine dawg and probably the most recognized mascot in the NCAA. If there are two things most Jacket fans envy about our estranged cousins to the north, they are Larry Munson and UGA. May UGA rest in peace and may his journey to that gameday in the sky be a pleasant one.
As for all of those other “Jacket fans” who are making tasteless remarks, you people are tarnishing the name of the Institute and its fine traditions. You are not true sons of GT. Damn you all.

He is certainly no where near “ugly” and this is apparent by the hoards of people who crowd around him whenever we go anywhere. I love him like a child and I send my sympathies and thanks to the Seilers for unselfishly giving of their time and their prescious pet..he delighted all of us UGA alumni and UGA fans and he will be sorely missed. It is obvious that dog was loved and adored by his family and very well taken care of. It is so disturbing to see how many people can be so cruel and disrespectful at such a sad time. I think it says a lot about your lack of character and I am glad that you degenerates back Florida and Tech instead of UGA. You are the people who need to get a life…. BTW, UGA’s life and death does matter. No matter who is broadcasting the game, they ALWAYS clamor to get a shot of the famed UGA sitting high atop his ice bag or in his dog house. To Dawg Nation, your fellow SEC brethern wish to pass along our condolences on the loss of UGA VI. He was a Damm Good Dawg (especially his record against the Gators!) He was unique and a joy to watch. UGA VI was one of the great symbols of Southern Football. May he rest in peace! Albert looks forward to sparing with UGA VII on the sidelines down in Jacksonville. At this year’s game fans of the Orange & Blue and the Red & Black will raise a glass in toast of UGA VI’s memory and welcome UGA VII to the best football game in the country…The WORLD’S LARGEST OUTDOOR COCKTAIL PARTY. … see you in November.

This UGA alum in south Florida is mourning with the rest of the Bulldog Nation. I LOVED petting the pooch at Homecoming! Sad that reading the blog does remind me how unfeeling and nasty the anti-Georgia idiots can be. They never change or grow up, I guess. Bite ‘em, Uga!

To the other schools, this is no time to be acting like brats. I am a Gator, but I too, loved UGA. Let’s face it, there is not a finer mascot around. He was a beloved pet, so try to be kind, people are hurting. And yes, you can put a dogs obit next to any family member of mine, we would be honored. My dogs are the most devoted creatures that ever existed, most people are not. UGA is already romping around in heaven with our loved ones, both people & pets that have passed on.

I have never been so disappointed in GT Fans as I am today reading many of these posts. Actually I am disappointed in the human race with many more of these posts.
It is a very sad when you loose an animal. Animals are more than animals and pets, they are our family and our friends. They deserve an obit as much as any person. If we have to give the sickos and murders an orbit, an animal should have one also.
True I am an GT Fan. However, I am an animal lover even more. Uga VI was a family pet and a more than a mascot. He was loved by the people who met him and watched him on the sidelines. He was a gorgous dog. He had a personality.
My heart goes out to the family that owned Uga VI and to all of the UGA fans. Uga VII will not be a replacement, but someone else for ya’ll to love even more.

You GA Tech fans need to show some respect. You are classless and that is the reason why one of your players is suspended with a rape charge. With the actions of other college programs around the nation, it is a wonder why people want to call us Thug-U.

As a Stanford grad it just floors me the lack of class by most of the Tech fans. There is a time and a place for the “trash talk.” Here is not the place. I’m not a Georgia fan, congrats to the baseball team, but UGA was in a class by himself. Even on the west coast we knew about UGA. RIP Dude!
Tech, I hope the Dawgs drill your team by a good 45 points this year. You deserve it!

What a joke. Why is it that the AJC bends over backwards for UGA? I did not go to either school so let me say as a 3rd party that the AJC needs to be a little more even with the public and cover both schools with the same publicity. I have not heard a thing about GT in months from the AJC. What a crappy biased newspaper. So UGA mascot died….I am sorry but he was a very over weight dog (all bulldogs are). But for some reason this required front page reporting??? Give me a break. Any news at all on GT??? Come AJC pick it up. GT is one of the highest rated technical schools in the country. I think UGA is one of the highest rated “party” schools in the country….Maybe thats why they get so much publicity.

Why is it that with the best veterinary health care in the South available to the Uga’s, they all die early? Could it be the stress of being dragged all over the place and exploited as they are. This is not a slam at UGA, but at the practice of all schools that use live animal mascots.
Uga I lived for 10 years, Uga II lived for 6 and the rest all died at 9. This is just too short. People who care about dogs and, especially the Uga line, should say “Enough!” Let Uga VII frolic in peace and enjoy a long life.

I went to UGA and I think this is way overboard. Just bury UGA and spare the huge ceremony. There’s more fanfare for a dog than for a hero and human former hoops star Alec Kessler; not to mention a dear alumni like Meredith Emerson and the many other alumni that passed away this year. Yah, the graves at the stadium are cool, but the melodrama of the ceremony is overboard. The administration headed by Adams cares more for the mascot than the students such as I who sweated for 5 years over there earning a degree. Let me state again that I did not (like most of the people who live in this city) go to school in this state. But yes I am happy. I just read on the AJC that 3 UGA players were arrested over the past few days for battery. In total that makes 6 UGA arrests since football season ended…..Wow…. I hope UGA has enough guys to play this coming August…..
Here is the article. http://www.ajc.com/news/content/metro/stories/2008/07/01/ugageorgiaplayers_arrested.html
On a side note: Let me also say that I do feel sorry for the family that raised UGA VI. My family raised dogs for many years and I know how close a family and its pets can be. I hope the next UGA is in better health. Hopefully in the future the AJC will cater to more higher up news from around the globe. This story shows how low our state and nation as a whole has sunk-all this fuss over a dog dying. I lost both my beloved dogs in Nov 07 one to the same fate that felled UGA VI. For all these people to be so distraught over the loss of a mascot is just plain stupid this should never have been a major news story as it was. Oh and by the way English Bulldogs are not such a smart breed of dog, any owner that calls them as such is probably has the same traits-fat, lazy and basically good for nothing. Oh what a sad, sad day to lose any good dog and UGA VI, like his fathers before him, will be sorely missed. I went to all games in the 80’s and loved getting to see UGA. All true fans love their mascot, especially one with a heart of gold. I want the Sieler family to know we are so sorry for their personal loss. Heres to a damn good dawg, now your on the other side getting your reward, and get to walk side by side with all the great UGA’s before you!!!! Lucky dawg!!!

Who, besides a caveman, would name a dog “uga” ? A school of “higher learning” and all you can come up with is a primitive mating sound of the dung beetle.
Maybe they can name the new mut “Wait until next year, we’ll be national champs.”

Rumor has it that UGA VI died as a result of a beating he took on the streets of Athens at the hand of the thugs that Georgia is recruiting. Do they have a depth chart for the number of arrests per player?

I’m a die in the wool GTech fan, but I’m always saddened when the wonderful Uga mascot dies. Even in the movie, “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”, Uga was one of the featured stars. Also, it is one of the best recognized mascot in all of sports. Plus, he tried to bite an Auburn football player. Now folks, that’s Class with a capital “C”.

Maybe as opposed to covering one dogs death, which was bred into this world, they should cover the staggering amount of animal deaths a day in the nation. Close to 1500 HEALTHY animals will be put to death today because of breeders, puppy mills and not spaying and neutering. The Uga line only promotes intact animals and lack of knowledge. Maybe if UGA really wanted a dog that stood for integrity, morals and doing good in the world, they’d adopt the next Uga instead of breeding and contributing to more homeless animals and lack of education of spaying/neutering.

EAT ME YOU GA BULLDAWG IDIOTS:….
A DATED STORY… you “sheeple” are truly a group of LOST IDIOTS
Read on (if you can)…
It is with great sorrow we are informing you that Robert (Precious) Jewell, D1440L died on Tuesday, September 17. He is survived by his lovely wife of 44 years, Dagmar. He died at Pensacola Naval Hospital Emergency Room. Bob fought in the Normandy Invasion and was in Special Forces from the beginning. Bob also had two tours of duty with 5th SFGA in Viet Nam. His service will be held at Barancas National Cemetery on the 23rd or 24th with Chapter XLIV as honorary pall bearers.
A SOLDIER DIED TODAY He was getting old and paunchy his hair was falling fast and he sat around the Legion, telling stories of the past Of a war that he had fought in, and the deeds that he had done. In his exploits with his buddies; they were heroes, everyone. And ‘though sometimes, to his neighbors, his tales became a joke, all his buddies listened, for they knew where of he spoke. But we’ll hear his tales no longer, for ol’ Bob has passed away, and the world’s a little poorer, for a Soldier died today. No, he won’t be mourned by many, just his children and his wife-. For he lived an ordinary, very quiet sort of life. He held a job and raised a family, quietly going on his way, and the world won’t note his passing; though a Soldier died today. When politicians leave this earth, their bodies lie in state, while thousands note their passing and proclaim that they were great. Papers tell of their life stories, from the time that they were young, but the passing of a soldier, goes unnoticed, and unsung. Is the greatest contribution, to the welfare of our land, some jerk that breaks his promise and cons his fellow man? Or the ordinary fellow, who in times of war and strife, goes off to serve his Country and offers up his life? The politician’s stipend and the style in which he lives, are sometimes disproportionate, to the service that he gives. While the ordinary soldier, who offered up his all, is paid off with a medal and perhaps a pension, small. Its so easy to forget them, for it is so long ago, that our Bobs and Jims and Johnnys, went to battle, but we know. It was not the politicians, with their compromise and ploys, who won for us the freedom, that our Country now enjoys. Should you find yourself in danger, with your enemies at hand, would you really want some cop-out, with his ever-waffling stand? Or would you want a Soldier, who has sworn to defend, his home, his kin, and Country, and would fight until the end? He was just a common Soldier and his ranks are growing thin, but his presence should remind us, we may need his like again. For when countries are in conflict, then we find the Soldier’s part Is to clean up all the troubles, that the Politicians start. If we cannot do him honor, while he’s here to hear the praise, then at least let’s give him homage, at the ending of his days. Perhaps just a simple headline, in the paper that might say OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, FOR A SOLDIER DIED TODAY. Author Anonymous.

PS
When I left active duty from Ft. Bragg over twenty years ago, my SF buddies would ask me about Atlanta (AKA the ATL). I immediately told them it was the biggest “faux town” in the US, with the largest amount of “sheeple” per capita. We had traveled the US and the world and speak of authority on the subject. With the amount of mourning and sensitivity regarding a “mascot”… case closed… it still is!
Sad sheeple indeed.

Hey Dumbing Down-you spent about 20 minutes of your life reading and responding to comments about a mascot with whom you have no affiliation, who’s the dumb one now? You may have a decent gripe, but should’nt you be posting in the Metro or Nation section. This blog is about Uga’s passing get over it and move on with your life.

I keep reading these ridiculous blogs of soldiers, people who can’t understand such concern over a passing mascot. This is what the soldiers are fighting for, the freedom to live and love, even a little dog. For God’s sake can’t you hateful bloggers just quit, while those that care, say a few words about part of their heritage. No matter how serious the world is, we still need to laugh and cry for those little things that mean so much to many of us. My dad loved that dog, and as a GTech fan, I really appreciate that mutt. Oh yeah, I’m 59 and a Vietnam vet, and those little things like mascots, rivalries, and such kept me going. For sure mean more now, having survived it all.

So Terrance also doesn’t understand all the fuss about UGA. Or, perhaps Terrance is a little like Mike Tyson who needed to stir up something, punch a street person or rape someone in order to get a sponsor to pick up his next fight (or column, in TM’s case) in his declining years.
Well, Terrance, assuming you are honestly clueless about UGA, here is why he’s above and beyond:
1) People can’t relate to a person in a bee costume, or a Husker costume,a Trojan that you can’t wear or something called Aubee.
2) Nobody identifies with a caged tiger that can’t be seen, a buffalo that comes out of an air conditioned trailer for a lap around the feild, a bird that comes out of a cage for a short flight, or a tick hound that just sits.
3) UGA is the only live mascot that can be petted, has personality and is identified with a football program seen on TV almost every week(and therefore UGA gets TV time every week). Washington has a Huskee, but they forgot to field a team to go with it.
4) College fans identify with most any living thing that drools.
That’s enough for now. Wouldn’t want to overload Mike..er,uh, Terrance.

Navigator, UGA ‘91, and Buckhead Bulldog all need to grow up. I guess I was “dumb” enough to serve 13 months as a platoon leader in Vietnam, while a majority of my classmates took the easy road. If someone thinks mourning for our mascot is stupid… so be it.

Dawgman, Terrance knows damn well what the big deal was. The fact that he even felt the need to write that, show that he does.
Or was that just his way of making fun of (some) folks in here? You know, the absurdity of a presumably intelligent grown man, living in Atlanta, pretending not to understand why UGA fans would feel a loss, from the death of thier longtime, beloved, and nationally famous team mascot. And a pet dog at that. And how silly and petty it would look to feign such confussion all in an very lame and tasteless effort to hurl veiled insults at rival college fans, even at the expense of looking like a complete and utter jackass.
