Another weekend, another SEC sweep
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Having swept series against nationally ranked SEC opponents on consecutive weekends, the 11th-ranked Diamond Dogs are definitely turning heads in college baseball.
My daughter and I were in the crowd at Foley Field (which surprisingly wasn’t full despite glorious weather) as David Perno’s team took their third straight from ninth-ranked Kentucky on Sunday.
Georgia was down 4-1 at one point, having started off a little shaky, with starter Nathan Moreau pulled after three innings. But when you’ve got a bullpen like the Dogs have, that’s not a problem. The Bulldog relievers gave up only one run on two hits in six innings, with hard-throwing, long-haired closer Joshua Fields entering in the ninth to tie Georgia great Cris Carpenter for career saves.
Georgia’s bats didn’t do much early but that changed after SEC homerun leader Gordon Beckham slammed his 15th of the season with a man on base.
The Dogs are now 23-12 overall and sit atop the SEC with a 12-3 league record.
They play at home Tuesday and Wednesday against East Tennessee State and Georgia State (now if they could just figure out how to avoid those midweek losses to nonconference opponents!) before traveling to LSU for a weekend series. Their next SEC homestand is May 2-4 against Ole Miss.
Maybe it was the Masters that kept some folks home Sunday, but with the Dogs playing league-leading baseball, there’s no excuse for Foley Field not to be packed for the rest of its weekend games this season.
BULLDOG BITES: Speaking of packed houses, the Steg should be rocking April 24-26 as Suzanne Yoculan’s Gym Dogs will be hosting the NCAA championships and going for their fourth straight national title. Some football-centric UGA fans may not recognize what a dynasty Yoculan and soon-to-be successor Jay Clark have built at UGA, but there’s a very vocal and active fan following for this team that regularly fills the Coliseum. The Gym Dogs are some of our top athletes and deserve more woofs from the Bulldog Nation at large. … The UGA volleyball program was awarded the Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday for winning the inaugural Southeastern Conference Coaches Beach Volleyball Championships. All of the SEC’s 11 volleyball schools took part in the Beach Volleyball Championships, the first-ever beach volleyball tournament held by a Division I conference.

Hey Cuz, what do you think Tech students were doing when they were busy not playing sports or getting laid? Playing D&D. That and seeing how many prime numbers they have in their phone number. The nerds would kill us in D&D.

Yeah Luda I hear Tech has a top ten recruiting class in D&D. They have two five star trolls and a four star wizard already committed.

I’m a HUGE dawg living in S.C. and I keep up with all UGA athletics. I only missed two football games all year last year, I made it to two b-ball games, a women’s basketball game (in SC), and I saw the last game of the double header against SC. I love UGA, but I don’t get why more people don’t come out to see all our dawgs play. We need to kick our attenence up a bit. Basketball(mens and womens) and baseball,to me, are every bit as good as football with less traffic! I hope I get into UGA for college because I will be going and barking at all UGA sports.I do think its sweet we have the best program/fans for gymnastics! GO DAWGS! 4 IN A ROW!!!

Oh man! I used to love to play lawn darts! I think they are illegal to sell now. Soemthing about being too dangerous. Go figure, long darts tossed through the air by adults and kids alike. Good thing they have legalized fireworks, because we all know those are a lot safer.

Looks like the good year/bad year rotation of the Perno era continues, with this fortunately being one of the good years.
Of course, that beats our good decade/bad decade rotation in basketball!

Yes, please stick with Gymnastics and Beach Volleyball, since those are about the only sports you can win a national title.
I have never seen this cow college get so excited about nothing, and by the way, CMR needs another raise for doing nothing.
Football (national titles) score remains:
GT 4 (More Recent 1990) UGA 1 (1980)
It is absolultely hilarious to see Dog fans turn out for spring football drills, only to be disappointed with “maybe” better than average results in 2008. Until you realize that CMR has you snowed under, he will continue to win just enough for another raise, and another mediocre season.
Go Dogs!

Tuesday’s game against East Tennessee at Foley Field was one of the most exciting you could ever hope to see.
The Dogs fell seven runs behind and then came back to win it on a wild pitch and a close call at the plate. The ETSU coach protested, but the Gordo Beckham was ruled safe.
A great way to spend a spring evening!

Thanks for the compliment, and yes I am the former QB and graduate from UGA who leads the school in INT’s.
What school would hire the INT leader and former QB of Non-QB U as thier OC? Oh that’s right, UGA.
Win some national titles then UGA fans have room to talk.

The Tech fans on this board are so pathetic. Knowing they have no shot at beating the Dawgs in football, they cling to any success, no matter how monumentally inconsequential.
If,at yr end they still havent beaten the Dawgs in anything worth talking about(that would be every year)..thats when they start making excuses and whining how they cant win with their high academic standards..Hey Losers, call up Stanford, Wake Forest, Cal..all of those schools are far better than yours academically and they are doing fine.whats your problem?
Ans: its not the academics that keeps student athletes away..its the desire to see a good looking woman on campus before they graduate or maybe the desire to have a roommate who doesnt spend his date money at 3.99 per minute.

Tennis teams are not that “shabby”. *Men’s team is number 3 nationally, with 5 players that made All-SEC.;
*women’s team is #8, nationally, with 4 All-SEC players;
John Isner, turned pro last year and ranked in the 700’s, today is ranked #81, which is very good progress. Hopefully, he will become a top 25/50 player.

Georgia Bulldog DIAMOND DAWGS have 13 Wins against the Top 25 Teams in College Baseball this season. Gordon Beckham has walked away with the overall NCAA College Baseball Player of the Year Award, already. Tonight Georgia beat LSU at Baton Rouge for the 2nd straight night, and this makes now twice EVER that Georgia has beaten LSU at Baton Rouge in a baseball weekend series. The game tonight was a thrilling 9-8 Victory on our last at bat, in a game marked by two home runs by Beckham for the 5th time this season by our shortstop. He leads the entire NCAA in every category.
13-3 in SEC League play, The Bulldogs have Won The SEC Baseball Regular Season Championship. Joshua Fields has set the All-Time UGA Save Record with 34 Saves.
Georgia is Number 7 in the nation in Collegiate Baseball, the oldest poll. And, in USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll and Baseball America Poll, Georgia is listed Number 13 in both. In NCBWA Poll, Georgia is Number 21.
Baseball America is generally considered the Poll. There are three (3) only ACC teams in the Baseball America Top 25. There are five (5) SEC teams in the Baseball America Top 25, led by Georgia.
Georgia Tech is NOT RANKED in the Baseball America Poll.
Georgia Tech is also NOT RANKED in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll.
Georgia Tech also is not in the Top 25 of the NCBWA Poll.

The SEC has eleven (11) former NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE YEAR like Gordon Beckham will be this season.

The SEC has 133 former 1st Team All-America like Gordon Beckham and Joshua Fields will be this season.
Since 1991 when the current SEC alignment began, The SEC has had 68 First Round Major League Baseball Selections.
1,686,932 fans attended SEC Baseball Games last season, double the attendance of the next closest conference.
College World Series has seen Georgia 4 times since 1990. Mississippi State has 4 as well.
Tennessee, Alabama and South Carolina have been 3 times each. Auburn and Arkansas have been once.
Florida has also, along with Georgia and Mississippi State, been to Omaha CWS 4 times.
LSU has been to the College World Series in Omaha Ten (10) times since 1990.
The SEC has Won 6 of the last 18 CWS National Championships, and UGA has 1 of those.
Since 1990, an SEC team played in 105 of the 254 games played in the College World Series, an amazing 41 percent of games.
Since 1990, 85 conference teams have appeared in the final Baseball America poll, 90 in the final Collegiate Baseball poll and, since 1992, 82 in the final ESPN Coaches poll.

However, this AJ-C rag makes the repeated statement that Georgia cannot hit. And, discusses this compared to The 7 SEC Teams averaging OVER .300 BATTING AVERAGE. This while UGA has played Twenty (20) Games against the Top 25 Teams in the Nation.
20 Games against The Top 25.
Georgia has Won 13 of them.
Georgia’s Batting Average is 56 Points HIGHER than our Opponents.
Despite all the great teams we have played.

In the 40 games this season so far, Joshua Fields has pitched in HALF the games and has NOT ALLOWED AN EARNED RUN ALL SEASON LONG.
Georgia leads The SEC in a Number of Categories :
http://www.secsports.com/new/sports/bbc/08stats/lgteams.htm
Fewest Hits Allowed.
Most Saves.
Opposing Batting Average.
Wins.
Fewest Strike-outs by our hitters.
Most Walks by our hitters.
Highest Differentiate Our Batting Average compared to our opponents.
Most Top 25 teams played.
In case anyone is interested, since the AJ-C cannot report this either :
Gordon Beckham
.430 Batting Average
11 of 12 on stolen bases.
.522 On Base Percentage.
.866 Slugging Average
141 Total Bases in 155 At-Bats.
19 Home Runs.
Now, what I would really like to know please ?
How in the hell does the Georgia Institute of Technology pay two (2) professors $418,000 a year in salary and NOT KNOW THEY HAVE NOT BEEN TEACHING AT TECH SINCE LAST OCTOBER 7 MONTHS NOW ?
Who has been “teaching” their classes ?
Graduate assistants ?

I’m sure that …BuLdaWg is upset to read the story about Pollock having no chance to play anymore football. Don’t worry, he’s an NFL flunkie just like his loverboy David Green.
LOL
Actually, what’s really laugh out loud funny is this guy BUllDawg and his clinging to the college sports of a school he didn’t attend, and spending all his time blogging about it.
