What a difference a coach makes

Since Jacksonville, we’ve begun seeing the dividends that Mark Richt’s decision to hand off the playcalling is having for the Dawgs. (Besides a more sustained commitment to truly balancing the running and passing games, that is.)

With his head out of the playbook and more into not just the game but his players’ heads, Richt is showing the kind of empathy for his team and motivational skills that his past Mr. Calm persona never really hinted at.

It’s not just about getting the players jacked up (though it’s certainly done that, not always to our advantage) or kicking the home crowd into high gear (though it’s done that, too; when the team came sprinting out onto the field Saturday in those black jerseys, the reaction from the blacked-out crowd was the loudest I’ve ever heard at Sanford Stadium).

No, Richt sensed that this particular set of Bulldogs performs best when they’re having fun, and he’s set out to make Georgia’s games a good time to be had by all but the opponents. “That has made us all more relaxed and let us show who we are,” is how Matthew Stafford put it.

It’s doubtful Richt the playcaller would have had the time to get to know his team well enough to realize this was what they needed to break out of the sleepwalking that led to the Knoxville debacle.

Even after the SEC officiating crew had done its best to clamp down on the Dawgs’ high spirits, indirectly helping Auburn score 17 unanswered points to take the lead, the Georgia team kept its goodtime buzz, doing the Superman dance as Soulja Boy’s “Crank That” blared through the stadium speakers (a new home-game tradition that has evolved this season). Players dancing after their team has scored a touchdown is one thing; dancing when things aren’t looking so good is quite another.

And yet it was just what the Dawgs needed.

Forget the penalties, let’s have some fun and go for it! And, in a nice touch, they did it with Richt using his head-coach bigfoot prerogative to order Mike Bobo to call the same pass play that beat Auburn in 2002. The resulting 45-yard completion to injury-oblivious Sean Bailey set in motion the 28-point Georgia response that said to heck with the refs and the visiting-team hex in this series, this is our house!

Crank THAT!

Bailey, Mohamed Massaquoi, Knowshon Moreno and Kelin Johnson all played big, big roles Saturday, but give the game ball to Coach Richt.

YELLOW FEVER: Whether all those flags thrown on Georgia Saturday by the same heavyhanded crew that officiated the Florida game were deserved or not (and a couple of them definitely looked like ref overreactions designed to keep control of the game firmly in their grasp, including a pass interference call on an uncatchable ball), what really irritated many wearing black shirts was the fact that the officials were not calling the game evenly. They called a facemask penalty on the Bulldogs yet missed a blatant facemask by the Tigers that even Auburn fans sitting near me said was “a bad call.” A Georgia player got an unsportsmanlike conduct flag after a sack despite the fact he was running away from the play and toward the Georgia fans and yet Auburn’s Quentin Groves could run his mouth while standing over Stafford with no flag thrown. I’d say it’s likely that what Richt said to the officials when he made a very high-profile trip to midfield at the end of the first half to confer with them was something like this: If you want to call it close, fine. But call it fair. At this point, if the SEC wants to avoid even the appearance of officials taking retribution against Georgia for the Jacksonville Dance, they should make sure this particular crew of refs doesn’t officiate any more Georgia games this season.

POOCH KICKS: I’ve been wanting to see the Bulldogs in black jerseys since the Goff era, when I used my then-young son’s colored pencils to sketch what a Georgia jersey would look like if you reversed the red and black. Finally seeing it on the field Saturday was a thrill. And it was a nice touch having AC/DC’s “Back in Black” played right before kickoff Saturday and again at the end of the game. When will the Dawgs (and fans) be back in black? Richt said the players would like to do it again for the next game, though that is doubtful. But that’s certainly not the last we’ve seen of the black jerseys (which even Auburn’s voluble Groves said “sure did look good”). More likely is one Blackout per season. … I was just noting Saturday that Stafford was getting better finding his secondary receivers when he threw an interception into triple coverage. OK, so he’s still got room to improve. But anyone who saw him scramble a bit and then sling that 58-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open MoMass should understand why Richt is so high on this still-young QB. … Too bad a stupid illegal shift cost Georgia a TD when Moreno took a page out of Darren McFadden’s book and threw successfully into the end zone. I think we’ll see that again, too. … Kudos to Tripp Chandler for another couple of key catches Saturday. He’s turned his game around remarkably this season. … The Sanford Stadium layout makes a Lambeau Leap impossible, but it was great fun to see the Georgia team up on the cheerleaders’ platform after the game. And Kelin Johnson got to direct the Redcoats. A well-deserved honor. … Watching the Florida-South Carolina game Saturday night, I was thinking how uncool it was of the Gators to still have Tim Tebow in the game at the end and throwing for the end zone when victory was already locked up. Then I remembered who was standing on the other sideline. Reaping what he sowed. … So what if the Dawgs beat Kentucky but the Vols don’t lose one of their last two and we don’t get to go to the Dome? It won’t all necessarily be for naught. There’s a good chance that if Georgia continues its offensive ways of the past three games and wins out, an at-large BCS bowl bid could come their way. First, though, there’s Kentucky and another spread offense to deal with. …

Well said, Bill. My Dad was there and said he wouldn’t have taken a $1000 bucks to have traded that experience on Saturday. And believe me, after 40 years of Sanford season tickets, it takes a lot to get him that excited. I agree it should be a fun finish to the season, no matter if UT wins out. And if they do and go to the Dome, well they earned it. Good luck against the Cajuns. A BCS bowl again would be refreshing, esp. a great matchup like Texas, Hawaii, or Oregon.

Georgia is hot that is for sure. they are going to get called for penalties as long as they act like the Tallahassee thugs that Richt evidently has recalled. Saying that the refs was unfair is really lame even for a Bulldog fan. Richt needs to rein the team in now that everyone is done shucking and jiving. if another team had done these things and had their brothers boogeying on the sidelines Georgia fans would be saying how proud they were that their good boys did not do that. Georgia is playing well and winning but now they need to find some class.

The Dawgs are NOT Thugs. They are just having fun, or do (some of) you all not remember what it’s like to be 19 years old ? The enthusiasm should not be misinterpreted as thuggery.

Seems like some people are just jealous…

Re: Yellow fever- two of the late hits were called on players that were in mid air while the play was still going on, and the last time I checked it was pretty darn hard to stop in mid air. It would be good, like you say Bill, to have the game called fairly at the least.

I’m proud of my team and my Head Coach and they are above reproach in my book.

We are playing some great ball right now. I heard someone talking about a Sugar Bowl berth if we win out and Tenn does the same. That would be cool. I see a real shoot out with Ky., but we will win like 52-35 and then totally spanl GT. Not bad for a “down year”. Next year is going to be a blast! River.. if you had watched the game you would have seen how unfair the reffs were.

The Dawgs did what it takes to win football games… motivate your team to Finish The Drill.. Because he took a 15 yard penality (errrr 28 yard er…)…because he played the BLACK jerseys.. and it was inspirating & served its purpoise… now disrespect his body of work???

Run along now.. He or the BullDawg Nation could careless..

Coach Richt is the class act of the entrie coaching faternity in the SEC & possibly the Nation!!!

Don ‘t Hate… Appreciate….

Oh.. And on the calls.. Good teams find a way to overcome bad officiating.

Wish we had a “do-over” on SC & UT… But, it is what it is… Shoulda.. Coulda… Woulda… Didn’t…

Am very proud of the TEAM!!

Moreno.. Stellar.. The O-Line.. I have said that they were very physical & athletic.. Just lacked reps together.. They will(should) be together 2 - 3 more years. Moreno will be delivering for atleast 2 more years.. C King & the incoming are only going to get better.

The D played their A$$ es off.. The Dline & K Johnson @ S was the difference.. Curren is a FR!!!! Asher was a hitter!!

Stafford was the field General.. What a deep ball!!

Anyway.. When the Dawgs were left out of all pre season All SEC first teams, I said I could careless, cause the season is yet to be played.. Moreno & Run DMC are 1st team. Sturdevant the LT is a true FR.. Valesco (C) should get 1st team.. Southerland (FB) is 1st team..

Good D@mned Dawgs!!!
And PROUD of them too!!

Oh yeah..

Here’s the deal..

UT & UGA win out…

UT will lost to LSU in the SEC CG

LSU will play for the NC..

UGA will get a BcS bowl game (10 - 2) & add to the $$ pot that is the SEC!!!

thanks for mentioning the refs Bill. I can’t stand that head referee. He talks to much when explaining penalties or reviews. Also after a penalty instead of saying ‘still first down’ ‘still second down’ or whatever he says ‘down remains first’ that is so completely stupid to me. I did not care for him telling our punter to ‘get up’ after he got hit in the first half. I did not think it was a penalty but what should the ref care if our player lays there?

Watch the CBS replay. Referee Penn Wagers gave punter Brian Mimbs a lecture and threatened him with a penalty. The head linesman rode to the game on the Auburn team bus. Was he from Opelika or Montgomery? The SEC is unsure how to handle the suddenly in-charge Mark Richt. How many Volunteer fans are jealous of the environment at Sanford Stadium? How many Volunteer fans will be silently pulling for Vandy Saturday? I’m a traditionalist but this show sure beats losing.

Remeber when we used to have the electric bass in the band and it would kick into Dooley’s Junkyard Dawgs? I do cause I was a student then. The whole stands would start dancing with the players on the sidelines. Was that pre-thuggery. Or was Dooley just way ahead of his time. The SEC banned electric instruments in the band stands because of us dancing and getting the team fired up. They took average teams and fired them up to play above themselves. How is this different than today. Thuggery is late hits, hits out of bounds, going after an injured player(I saw no one trying to intenionally hurt Tebow) and taunting an injured downed player. We do not do that. We have fun. If you do not like it or your team is to calm, watch soccer. Otherwise, shut up your jealous piehole.

I and the great Buck in the Northwest agree that CMR not calling the plays has helped him to become the Head Coach many thought he could be. He is now more concerned with the entire team, as in getting them up with the game and it is working.

Looking backwards on a season and saying we need a do-over playing SC and UT is just not facing reality. We played bad in those games and those two played to win. I refuse to cry over spilled beer. I just buy another six pack and move on. Props to the Vols and the Gamechickens on their wins against us. If we win out and play in a good bowl, they can point to us and say, well we beat the Dawgs when they were good that year. Let’s just take care of our business, Kentucky and GT and let the rest fall where it may.

Odds are that the seniors will pull out the black shirts for their last game in Sanford next weekend. If they want them their last game, why not?

OK, the team has had it’s black jersy game and it is time to put them in storage with the black pants. The jersies looked fine but UGA doesn’t need to get into the Clemson, Texas Tech habit od changing uniforms every year and sometime two or three times during the year. The school colors are RED and black, the tradition for 100 years has been RED. Keep the black jersies, black pants, and red pants for a once in a very long time occasion, or would you all like to change the uniforms to look like the Falcons pseudo girls softball uniforms? Almost all the NFL uniforms look like crap with the weird wavy stripes, different color panels on the inside of the pants, weird designs on the jersies, stripes, swirls, curlicues, all to try to sell a different jersey to the sucker fans every year. Stay in RED and silver with a very rare blakc jersy or black pants. The novelty would wear off after a couple of games. Besides the North Avenue Nerds wore black for several years and look where it has gotten them. Now they wear cheap imitation knock offs of faded out Notre Dame uniforms with a GT sticker on the helmet.

Some people from AU asked why we dressed in black, were we going to a funeral? After witnessing yesterday’s events I would have to say yes that was a funeral. A funeral for “old school” GA football because what we attended was a “changing of the guard” for the Bulldawg Nation. November 10, 2007 will be seen as the defining moment for this generation of Dawgs just like that “coming out party” for #34 was for Dawgs my age and older. I have not been a fan of all the hype and celebration these pups show because of all the penalties that have come with them. But as the young guy who sat behind me last night said these are different times, this is what it takes to get these guys fired up. So gone are the days when the team plays the game without paying attention to the fans in the stands while the game is going on. Gone are the days when you cross the goal line, hand the ref the ball, and act like you’ve been there before (like #34)and when you make a play you get up and get ready for the next one. Once it was Dooley’s Junkyard Dawgs & James Brown now it is Soulja Boy and AC/DC.

Coach is 2 for 2 on gutsy calls, thank goodness they both worked. Now the challenge for him is how to reign in the sometime unbridled enthusiasm. Celebrate, dance, and showboat all you want on the sidelines and during time outs when there is no chance for a penalty. The celebration penalties are killing us and is not a showing of Bulldog class! We don’t want to be another Miami or FSU or the most penalized team in the SEC.

BR Dog- The Jerseys served there purpose. It fired up the team and it fired up the fans. But I wouldn’t mind seeing them breakout maybe once a year….that said maybe it could be something a Florida Gators win can get them. Whatever it takes but the team was more fired up then they have been in the whole CMR era…can’t say I am upset by that. Not to mention how many people did you hear today talking about those black jerseys this morning?

Should be noted that I spoke with a man who is a die-hard GTU fan. Buys season tickets every year. Not an alumni either. Just a good ole southern college football fan. He told me today he wished there was a way CMR would come to the North Avenue Trade school. CMR can have them boys wearing spotted jerseys for all I care if it fires them up it did the way it did last night.

Silver Dog, that was hilarious, I actually did laugh out loud.

I think the Dawgs have been too conservative in all regards the last coupla years but it is a very fine line we are walking right now. I don’t think we’ve gone too far but CMR needs to make sure it doesn’t go too much further. If we keep it where it’s at then more power to ‘em.

For anyone who ever played you know that Mimbs blatant flop was deserving a 15-yarder. I think the only reason it wasn’t thrown was because the refs were aware of how many they had already thrown (and CMR’s half time talk with them). We’re good enough not to have to resort to such tactics and just as those others weren’t deserved in the slightest Mimbs deserved one…WIN OUT, hope UT falters and this team could maybe back door a big time game. Look out for next year — hopefully we’ll go wire-to-wire #1.

Observations from a long-time Dawg fan:

  • I was critical of the Fla celebration and said then that most people did not realize how close it was to becoming a full-scale brawl. I also said the referees don’t like being put in that position.

  • Two weeks later, the referees have had their say. Richt would do well to take note and don’t allow his team to do stupid sh1t to p1ss off the referees.

  • Some of you may think all the silly dancing around and celebration is all in good fun. I see it as a lack of discipline. Richt needs to get this team back under control or he will see a lot more of those 15 yard penalties.

  • The unsportmanlike penalty on Kelin Johnson was deserved. Some of the other penalties were borderline, but like I said, the referees had their say.

  • The last thing I want to hear when I go to a ball game is some damn rap song blaring through the loudspeakers. Pull the plug on it and let the band play.

Dancing, posing, mugging non-stop for the camera. Is this really the image Georgia wants to project to the country?

The answer would be an emphatic YES

Mark Richt is doing everything he can to cater to his black athletes—which is seemingly about 90% of those who play now. This will pay big dividends at recruiting time.

But we aren’t too far away from looking more like Florida A&M on the field than Georgia.

Personally, I’m for changing our name to Happy Fun U if it means beating Florida and Auburn every year. These big games, from my perspective, have been grim, serious affairs for as long as I can remember—win or lose. Just this once, it’s great to see a little devil may care attitude that the team is CLEARLY responding to. Will this stuff work next year? Probably not. CMR is reading his team. And for all you people talking about thug this and thug that, you’d think we had won the SEC championship for ten years running. Not hardly! We’re struggling like every other team in the league and trying to get a leg up on the competition. If you’ve studied Richt for even five minutes, you know our newfound spirit is coming from a good place. I resent being compared to Miami or FSU. These are good kids who have worked hard against unbelievable odds. Florida and Auburn IN THE SAME YEAR. You KNOW how rare that is! To heck with the naysayers: I’m gonna drink it down and burp out loud.

I’ve been attending games in Sanford Stadium for more than fifty years and have witnessed some remarkable events, but never anything like the electricity and the fusion of players and fans when the black-clad Dawgs charged on the field.

I’m not sure how such a trivial thing as jersey color became such a wonderful catalyst. But it did, and I wouldn’t take anything for the experience.

Because I read this blog regularly, I’m really trying to give folks the benefit of the doubt when they discuss the music, dancing and overall sideline behavior of our players at yesterday’s game. I KNOW you don’t mean to imply that because the majority of our players are African American that naturally they have no discipline and are responsible for the rap music being blasted over the loud speakers and the on-the-field excitement that may have drawn the referees negative notice. Trust me, if that was the case, “Back in Black” never would have been the song of choice.

I’m going to assume that all the Miami, FSU and Florida A&M references are not meant to sound as racially offensive as they can be interpreted. But just in case, I’m a little naive and those of you writing those comments really do believe that the Black players are responsible for these “blemishes” on the Bulldog Nation’s heretofore spotless reputation…I would suggest that you all take a couple steps back from that ledge you’re about to jump off of and think about what you’re saying and take a look around the world that we leave in.

Fact: The majority of rap CDs are not purchased by African Americans. They are purchased by middle class Caucasian males with tons of disposable income and a desire to be more “street.”

Fact: The dancing on the sidelines and in the stands is typical of young people today, regardless of race. It’s what’s played on their iPods, in the clubs they frequent and on that dinosaur of an appliance we call “the radio.” The music has no color. It only has attitude, an attitude that is winning ballgames, by the way.

Fact: The students you see on the field listen to that music in the gym when they are lifting weights Monday-Friday to build bulk so that they can be stronger blockers, faster runners, and better tacklers for YOU on Saturday! But you don’t think they should be allowed to hear it and dance to it while they take a couple breathers on the sideline before going back into battle. Hmmmm.

I’m not asking any of you to agree with me; but I do think little perspective is in order here. Many of you are expecting young people to conduct themselves according to rules that once applied to us. Newsflash: those rules no longer apply. Not for UGA students or for anyone under the age of 30. These young people understand that nothing is promised to us so they want to enjoy the ride today. That’s all they are doing is enjoying the ride. And as a Baby Boomer who has to “toe the line,” I find it refreshing! The fact that it’s got us winning with authority, well that’s just a bonus.

ugagal, nothing on the sidelines bothers me at all nor does the music. that’s all good. it’s the late hits, the celebration penalties, the punter flopping those are RULES that apply to football players on the field white or black…save your dry, over used stats about rap music for your suburban Daughters For Prozac group and get off your high horse, save the melodramatic, self-righteous sermon and join the conversation or STFU unless you have something to add to the discussion. if you don’t recognize a change, a real change, in what’s happening on the field then…well, take another pill.

Hell froze over - Stewart Mandel over at SI.com wrote some great stuff about our Dawgs!! Check it out:

Georgia could be the national title “X-factor.”. It’s not often a team completely reinvents itself mid-season, but the Dawgs appear to have done just that — right down to their uniform colors. Following consecutive SEC smackdowns of both Florida (42-30) and Auburn (45-20), you’d never know this was the same Georgia team that was overly grateful just to win at Vanderbilt a month ago. The truth is, it’s not the same team. Since that Vandy game, the Dawgs have found themselves both a swagger (thanks in large part to the previously laid-back Mark Richt’s celebration challenge against the Gators) and an identity — which is, to ride freshman RB Knowshown Moreno (160.5 yards per game and eight TDs over the past four games) and force turnovers (12 in four games).

Suddenly, 8-2 Georgia is the SEC’s hottest team and could well spoil No. 1 LSU’s national title hopes, and possibly even boost their own (they’re already up to No. 8 in the polls with three more weeks of potential top-10 upsets ahead), were the two to meet in Atlanta on Dec. 1. However, the Dawgs, at 5-2 in the SEC, don’t control their own destiny. They need Tennessee to lose a game to make that LSU matchup happen, because the Vols (7-3, 4-2 SEC), lest we forget, whipped Georgia 35-14 on Oct. 6. Never in a million years would one have guessed at the time that, a little more than a month later, the Dawgs would be 11 spots ahead of Tennessee in the rankings. Actually, come to think of it, that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but neither has much of anything else this season.

Replay, Nice post. I couldn’t agree more. As I was watching the game on Sat. I was talking to my good buddy back in Ga and at halftime he asked me if I had any predictions. I told him I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost by 20 or if we won by 20…by the fourth quarter I told him I thought we’d win the National Championship next year. This team, this organization, this campus, this staff, this athletic department has gelled. It reminds me a lot of what I saw out here in LaLa Land a few years years ago with Bush (Moreno) and Leinart (Stafford) and White (Caleb?). A new day has dawned for sure in Athens now let’s see what CMR (Dr. Frankenstein) can do with his new creation. But I love it…THE U.G. of A just became relevant again!!!

ugagal- I couldnt agree with you more. As a student at UGA, it bothers me when i read things such as “Mark Richt is trying to cater to black players”. thats absolutely ridiculous and borderline racist. Our guys are just having some fun out there and playing loose. I agree that we need to harness the emotions sometimes but for the most part it has been great. We dont need so called fans calling our own players thugs. Coach Richt was completely right when he said the guys need a breather from all the hard practices, classes, etc…

Enjoy the good times while they last because no one knows when they can end. All those players could be one play away from not playing football again. I say let it all hang out but stay focused and play smart.

Lets just hope any of our recruits read some of the racial overtones from these so called fans.

To those oldschoolers that think the dawgs’ new attitude isn’t UGA football - you’ve obviously got a huge bug up your a$$. Did it make you feel better to lose or squeak by quietly to lesser teams? This is a young team and they are growing very very quickly. The offensive line has made unbelievable improvement. Face it, we needed to shake things up. Lighten up and enjoy your suddenly explosive team.

I guess I’m glad that Richt is coaching instead of calling plays, but I worry sometimes that Mike Bobo’s play calling lacks imagination. Would he have called the long pass to Bailey or done something “safer?” Georgia has HUGE talent on offense. I’d sure like to see ‘em light things up more.

You are the people that sit on the alumni side and get mad when someone is “too loud”. You are the people that leave games early. You are the people that should give up your seats to someone that will make Sanford as loud as Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. Shut up and have fun, jeez.

I remember about a month ago the AJC journalist’s, experts in their own mind, were calling for MR to get tough and come down hard on his players to get them to play better. So what does Mark do. He takes the opposite approach and lets the kids have fun while working hard to improve. I think we forget sometimes that these are 18 and 19 year old kids. Now these same writers have hopped on the bandwagon. A true example of bad journalism at the AJC and and good coaching at UGA.

Unreal….the same fans who were whining and crying after UT stepped on your face and USC handed you a loss, are now all of a sudden a powerhouse.

The win over AU was decisive and solid, but do it week, after week, after week and play for a national title, then you will have something to brag about.

Keep in mind this same AU team lost to USF

You still have KY coming up and with Ark losing to UT your SEC hopes just went out the window. Again, UGA has to learn to win the big ones, including USC and UT.

The Dawgs looked fabulous on Saturday! I don’t think Coach Richt will have a hard time firing them up for the rest of this season - as they have KNOWSHON what they can do! They are a unique group of young men, who have been motivated in ways other previous Ga teams haven’t. Different groups of kids have to be motivated in different ways to get the juices flowing, and OUR COACH has done just that! Go DAWGS!

In recent years, UGA has probably had the most talented players in college football, but their play has not matched their talent. Georgia has eclipsed FSU in terms of player misconduct and arrests. The graduation rate for players is among the lowest in the SEC. Their behavior against Vanderbilt, Florida, and Auburn was disgraceful, but when things aren’t going well, the team rolls over and dies. Georgia is beginning to resemble Oklahoma in the 1970’s under Barry Switzer, and as a Georgia graduate, I am embarrassed.

I hear your sentiments but, you, my friend, are in the minority.

BTW, in my view this team is more disciplined than other teams of the Richt era.

I recall some of the BVG defenses racking up numerous late hit penalties which leaves me to wonder if you and others that share your opinion were equally critical then or whether over time your memory has faded and been replaced with some “Leave it to Beaver”-like impression of previous Richt coached teams.

Dorsey Hill, great suggestion on the black jersey. Beat UF and you can choose when to wear them. The refs were horrible. Late hits on Brandi Cox? Price we pay for whipping UF and embarrassing that ref crew in Jacksonville. They are still p**. So Bill I agree make sure that crew doesn’t call anymore UGA games this year and we can call it even. Awesome performance by everybody, D was lights out. What ranked defense were we playing against again? Tops in the SEC? #8 defense in the country?. The O embarrassed them. Time to shake it off and get ready for KY they will be tougher than Auburn that’s for sure. Who would have thought that TROY was the best team in Alabama?

With all due respect- Comments like these trying to call out War Eagle are unnecessary because if you know anything then you know he IMMEDIATELY came onto the blog and said congratulations to the Dawgs on a good win. He is a Classy guy and doesn’t deserve this kind of treatment and oh by the way War Eagle pulls for his home State team in every game but one because he was an All American DB at Auburn in the late 50’s. As a Head Football Coach at a few high schools in Georgia he has sent a few recruits our way as well. So lighten up a little, the one you should be calling out is Roswell Ed.

Not even mentioning the trashing his D got when LSU last visited here. Consider that last years Dawgs were really downtrodden when they went to face the Tigers (lost 4 of 5 games) and this years version has a really young O line. If you don’t want any of that I guess you’re OK with losing to Auburn and Florida every year. At least CMR and the players will be walking around with a pole up their butts and acting like robots.

P.S. Did you see CMR trying to get the crowd into it from the sidelines. He might be trying to get your attention (e.g thanks for all your donations but its not enough, we need you to be excited and get in the game).

It’s good to see him showing emotion. And I think he is doing a fine job of showing the boys how to have class. Have we all forgotten the emotion he showed at Vandy? Hey Forrest Gump.

Why don’t you just go fishin’ on Saturdays? Or to a quilting bee.

Throw together 100 post adolescents at the peak of their physical prowess, who have not yet realized their immortality, and you are going to have immature and stupid decisions. Boys will be boys.

There is not a program in the country that is not having this problem to some degree or another.

On another note. Loved the black jerseys and I love the enthusiasm this team is playing with. Anybody who criticizes the way the team is generating that enthusiasm is either a jealous fan of some other sub par program or is just suffering from a tight a$$. (48 yr. old white guy by the way who goes back to the early 70s as a DAWG fan)

Absolutely love the way this season is unfolding and I just hope we can maintain the chemistry of this team into ‘08.

We all now know what Stafford, Moreno, Baily, Massoquoi (sic), etc. can do but the player that stood out to me Saturday was Rennie Curran. This kid can play. He was always around the ball and laying the wood. I can see this team pulling off a streak like the early ’80s team with a National Championship mixed in.

Go DAWGS!!! Gotta love ‘em!

Any post that includes any reference to race is from someone who makes every issue about race. My earlier references to FSU and Miami have nothing to do with race. My reference to these schools has to do with the large number of personal fouls for unsportsmanlike conduct on the field following big plays. Unfortunately, the events of the first score in Jax will haunt this team for some time to come. That put the Dawgs under the microscope with officials and we will continue to have calls made against us that other teams won’t. As I stated earlier, Saturday was a changing of the guard from the old Dawgs to the new. I have followed the Dogs for over 40 years and am all about tradition but I also realize that things change. What this boils down to is the generational differences between those over/under 30 that are prevalent in all aspects of life these days. It is clear that we all want to have fun on Saturdays; old and young, players and fans. Let’s just keep it all in perspective. Like them or not, the game of football has some rules just like life does. If you choose not to follow the rules you sometimes get caught and you sometimes you pay the price. Bulldawgs from 5 to 105 are proud to be a part of The Bulldawg Nation! Let’s get focused on the business at hand beat UK & be a Vandy fan this week ; then beat GT and pull for UK. Then watch out LSU!

Since the “Dawg Vent” won’t take submissions from anyone with any savvy writing skills and other sordid undesirables with no trace of panache I’ll say it here: to the UT’er who saidy that “you (UGA) still lost to UT so who cares??” Go check the polls neighbor! Indeed, who cares (about UT)!? The Dawgs are still light years ahead of your team who beat a pathetic one-dimensional Arkansas. You’re just glad UT played the ‘Dawgs when you did or they’d get spanked now.

Better not hiccup against Vandy or UK either or those Dawgs will STILL be in the GEORGIA Dome! As it is, even if you win out you’ll have beaten 2 teams that will be unranked, probably will still be outside of the top 20 and then get your heads lopped off by LSU; afterward, losing your bowl game—as usual.

3 rivers jacket.

I saw nothing but class from UGA in yet another UGA victory.

Stafford concerned about Auburn’s DE when he got the stinger and was on the ground, went over to make sure he was OK and help him.

Moreno, helping up an Auburn player who just gave him a big hit and contragulate him for it.

Martinez and Richt not cussing out Kelin Johnson when he got the sideline after a dumb penalty. He gave him a hug and calmly discussed the mistake with him. Unlike (Oleary, Meyer, Spurrier, Saban) who would have tore the kid a new one in front of 92,000 and a national tv audience.)

Actually Oleary would have only been able to do that on the road when he was at tech (play in front of a big crowd and national tv audience that is.
