Not great, but good enough

OK, it’s a given. Georgia has trouble defending spread offenses. Unless it’s a one-trick-pony spread offense dominated by a guy named Tebow.

Unfortunately, on Saturday Troy’s spread looked more like the passing equivalent of West Virginia against us than it did Florida, racking up the most offensive yards (488) against Georgia since that Sugar Bowl meeting with the Mountaineers.

But while the Bulldogs certainly didn’t have an easy time against the Trojans, the game wasn’t one that left fans fretting like some of our earlier shaky wins. It was a mixed bag of positives and negatives:

Georgia, for a change, didn’t come out flat for one of these games. The Dawgs started the game enthusiastic. They just weren’t focused, resulting in two early fumbles that dissipated some of that energy and meant the defense was on the field a lot of time early on and got a little tired of defending all those dink-and-dunk screen passes Troy was throwing.

On the positive side, the two fumbles resulted in only three points and Georgia had three sacks and two interceptions. On the negative side, the Bulldogs gave up several first down conversions in third-and-long situations and a couple of long touchdown passes.

On the positive side, Georgia moved the ball pretty well most of the time, Knowshon Moreno was terrific (if you’ve got to have your first fumble of the season, the way to make up for it is to come back with your team’s longest TD run in 10 years) and Matthew Stafford completed some sharp downfield passes. On the negative side, Stafford threw an interception in the end zone that wasted a Georgia drive, the Dawgs had a poor day converting on third down and they had to settle for too many field goals, especially considering defense isn’t Troy’s forte.

On the positive side, Troy return specialist and future NFL-er Leodis McKelvin didn’t play that big a part in the game. On the negative side, he didn’t need to. Georgia’s directional (aka shank) punts to avoid him and likewise our mixture of angled and pooch kickoffs resulted in Troy getting great field position even without him having long returns. On kickoffs, why we refuse to go for the end zone continues to baffle. As Kevin Butler put it after the game, if you’re scared of a long return, why not make them return it 105 yards?

Overall, as Coach Mark Richt said, the Dawgs played good enough to win. Which in a game like this is never a lock. The most positive aspect of the game for Georgia fans continued to be the play of Knowshon Moreno. Not only does he give Georgia a superb offensive weapon and an on-the-field spark plug, he’s a pure pleasure to watch.

OTHER THOUGHTS ON THE GAME: After his TD reception, Sean Bailey picked up an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for tossing the ball to a Troy player instead of an official. The Dawgs just need to come to the realization that after the end-zone celebration in Jacksonville, they’re marked men and anything short of Boy Scout behavior is going to draw a flag the rest of this season. … Wasn’t it just a year ago that some grandstand observers of the Dawgs were opining that the toss-sweep was an archaic play that had no place in today’s football? It looked Saturday like the toss-sweep to Moreno was Georgia’s most effective running play. … Missed tackles continued to plague the Dawg defense Saturday. … Georgia’s offensive line, which didn’t get any flags against Florida, drew some costly penalties against Troy. Hope they got it out of their system. … The Dawgs’ greatest success defensively came when they pressured the quarterback. Unfortunately, too much of the time he wasn’t pressured at all and some of our linebackers stood around waiting to see what he was going to do instead of attacking. … Stafford generally had good protection all day. In fact, sometimes it was too good, exacerbating his tendency to hold on to the ball too long before passing, forcing receivers to have to wait for the ball.

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING, PART 1: The Trojans deserve credit for continuing to play hard in the fourth quarter, but their coaching staff looked really bush-league calling three time-outs in the last 30-odd seconds in order to score a meaningless touchdown against our scrubs. I liked what one fan yelled: “What, have you got money on it?” It also wasn’t cool that on the obvious last play of the game, when Stafford was taking a knee, Troy felt it necessary to knock him to the ground. You got the feeling this game meant more to them than they admitted beforehand when they maintained they were more concerned with winning the Sun Belt title.

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING, PART 2: When Stafford, who earlier had ceded the QB spot to Joe Cox, trotted on the field with 5 seconds left in the game, a lot of fans wondered if Richt was P.O’d at the Troy tactics and was going to have Stafford launch one toward the end zone. Nope, he just took a knee. So what the heck was he doing out there, risking possible (if improbable) injury?

as on fan next to me put it, probably just letting the winning QB be on the field for the victory…but other than that I have no clue.

Maybe there was a close call in the center to QB exchange w/ Cox or something. Who knows? I was wondering how Bailey got the unsportsman. On the radio it didnt seem like he did much or they didnt really explain it. But yeh, we are marked men now.

Please bring the heat on Cox. Run straight ahead and throw the ball downfield against Auburn. Their defense won’t let you get wide or allow dink and dunk passing.

A few observations:

  • One of my pet peeves and one of the things I think Richt ought to work on is the stupid penalties such as Bailey tossing the ball to a defender and getting popped with a 15 yarder. One of these days, boneheaded penalties like that are going to cost Ga a game. I’ve already seen first downs called back because of it. It’s just a matter of time before a game winning TD will be nullified.

  • Stupid penalties, part 2. We’re already ceding the 30 yard line on kickoffs. Why give them another 15 yards because of a penalty?

  • I agree with Kevin Butler about the kick offs. I know we have people with the leg, why not use it?

  • Funny you should talk about “all those dink and dunk screen passes” Troy was throwing. He11, that’s all GA did for the 1st half of the season.

  • Why I’m not a coach…. I would have put Moreno in there one more time to break 200 yds. Of course, if he got hurt, it would have been the dumbest coaching move ever.

  • I can’t fault Troy for fighting for that last touchdown. They’re playing for respect at that point and a 10 point loss to the #10 team in the nation sounds a lot better than a 17 point loss.

Stafford came back in because as Munson put it on the radio Richt wanted a sure handed QB in there. I don’t know if there was almost a botch on the snap with Cox in there or if he just didn’t want to risk it but take it for what it’s worth.

The polls must have forgot Auburn played Florida, they did not demote Ohio State,(Kent State), LSU, (Middle Tenn) or Bama(Houston) after their wins . Polls are criminal, don`t mean nothing, just a gauge on news media opinions.

1 good. after throwing lots of screens or passes to the RB in the flat, stafford made some great fakes to take shots down the field. he’d fake to the flat then hit, or nearly hit, a wide open WR. great play calling and execution.

1 bad. our play clock management is still just plain bad. why we wasted a time out on a punt from the 50 in the 2nd qtr is unacceptable. if we’re not set can’t we just take the penalty, move back a few yds, and then kick? i think we waste at least 1 time out every game and sometimes it hurts us, like it did against SC earlier this year. overall: a game to be expected. the real fun starts this weekend.

Thus saith The Lord: Pastor Richt will pay for humiliating Florida against Auburn. The good pastor seems to have forgotten his scripture: You always reap what you sow. Don’t be surprised if Auburn wins big. Coaching football seems merely to be a platform for Pastor Richt to spread the word. On behalf of the rest of the SEC: Praise the Lord!

They put Stafford in to have a sure-handed quarterback?!?!

There was five freakin’ seconds left. Assuming for the sake of argument that it was physically possible for a) Ga. to fumble b) Troy to recover c) the clock to stop despite Troy having no TOs left d) and Troy to get another play and score a touchdown all in five seconds, even with the PAT they would still be 3 points behind and no time left on the clock!

In other words, it was impossible for UGA to lose at that point. So there was no need for Stafford to be anywhere near the field.

I don’t think it was the toss sweep that fans were complaining about last year Bill. But you have access to more fan complaints than I do. I think it was the sprint draw.History is against us. It’s hard to beat Auburn 2x in a row. They are out for revenge and Sanford doesn’t necessarily give us an edge in this series. But we can win. If our defense plays in position and wraps up I think our offense will break through enough to win. Auburn fans made a lot about Cox’ gimpy ankle last year. He wants vindication.

I saw where UGA’s graduation rate was an impressive 52% for its entire athletic program. Keep up the great work Damon! I’m sure the football program’s rate is 45%.

CMR, if you combine the 45% plus let’s say that another 2% that go onto the NFL (of course, Paul Oliver does not help this statistic), then 53% of the team would be without a degree by the end of their Senior Year.

CMR, what do you tell the parents of that 53% group that did not graduate? Being the caring coach as you are, do you give them career coachng advice such as cleanup on Aisle 4 or would you like to biggie size your order or welcome to wal-mart.

UGAY continues to make stupid mistakes, like the Sean Bailey move by tossing the ball to the Troy Defender and getting 15 yards. These penalties are going to cost you in the long run.

Troy is a solid program, but they are no Auburn or Florida and played you tough. To listed to Sanford Stadium on Saturday you would have thought you were playing for a national title.

UGAY has their work cut out for them between now and the end of the season and if CMR continues to allow his team to create careless penalties, which we all hope he does, then UGA will continue to be a below average program. Go ahead and taunt, I am sure AU and KY will take the higher road.

Oh yeal, if you think AU and KY are going to play you soft and roll over and play dead, you have another thing coming. They have nothing to lose, I mean nothing, so they are going to bring the house.

You also have in idea how close your dumb #$# coach came to have another Miami vs. Florida Atlantic situation break out during the Florida game. If that had been Spurrier, he would have sent a Thug out there to start a fight and it would have been all over for UGA in 2007 and possibly 2008, but keep up the good work, because there is nothing more hilarious than a below average team attempting to act they are football Gods.

Every major sports journal from east to west is calling the CMR move the dumbest move of the century and just galvanizes the reason FSU let him go.

Some additional notes:

  1. Spurrier still owns you (note his previous sting at UF and USC-2007)

  2. UT stepped on your face this year.

  3. UGAY has not won a national title since 1980, the one and only national title.

  4. Bobby knew what he was doing when he let CMR leave Florida State.

  5. CMR has Athens so snowed it is not even funny.

UGAY is the most arrogant, overrated, undertalented and under-coached program in the nation and the taunting on Saturday confirms why everyone from California to Georgia laughs when you mention a Bulldog fan.

You may have beat Florida this year, but the Gators have alot more class than UGAY and still own 15 of the last 18 meetings.

Win some national titles, show some class and you might get some respect, but until then your program is a joke and an embarassment to the state of Georgia.

Mike Bobo — So what you’re saying is, Richt telling his players to celebrate is the dumbest move of the century, but Spurrier sending a thug out to intentionally start a fight would have been a brilliant move? I wish I took Gator Logic 101 in college — was Spurrier the teacher?

Gators will remember — Yes, you’re probably right, if you took away our first, second, AND third string running backs, we might have had a hard time beating UF. Gators will rememember:

Even FL fans admit that the FL offense is predictable in 07 and is essentially a one trick pony. There was an internet joke rolling around that showed a twister game board changed to the FL offense. You spin the dial and land on either Tebow run left, Tebow run right, Tewbow up the middle, or reverse to Harvin to pick the play UF will run. It was created by a FL fan as a joke, but like all good jokes it had some truth behind it.

Mike Bobo 17. You had so much innacurate info that it is hard to even begin to address your post.

First, UGA is ranked in the top 10 IN NOVEMBER. Average programs don’t finish in the top 10 five out of the last six years (which UGA has a chance to do).

Everyone from CA back East and the national media is calling Richt’s move against FL stupid? I saw three sportscaster on ESPN this week discuss it calling it genius. They gushed like schoolgirls about how much ethical capital Richt has and how it fired up his team without meaning any disrespect to FL.

You may have a different take as a blind UGA basher. We understand that the Richt era is a difficult time for you, with UGA beating FL and being in the top 10 and in the hunt for the SEC title.

Bill

I understand your frustration with our kick-off strategy. Richt said after the game he doesn’t want to second guess an assistant. Fair enough, but a Head Coach should recognize when a strategy is flawed and provide a logical recommendation for altering the game plan. Kevin Butler is absolutely correct… KICK THE FLIPPIN BALL IN THE ENDZONE - PLEASE!!!!!!

Here are some quick hitters for the AU game.

A.) The Tigers D completely shut down McFadden & Jones (combined rushing yards of 67), so this game rests in the hands of Stafford and our WRs.

B.) Pound Cox into submission and force turnovers.

C.) Stafford plays like a Heisman candidate, which means making the right calls at the LOS, delivering accurate balls and not throwing any INTs.

By GADAWG47

November 5, 2007 11:01 AM | Link to this

Well it was a win, but a very sloppy win. Our young D was exposed. Martinez did a poor job of adjusting to the SCREEN PASS. The SCREEN PASS was the only offensive weapon the Trojans had and they still racked up 350+ passing yards against our defense!

The score should have been 55 UGA and 27 Troy. Old Mike Bobo was at his greedy ways again. UGA had the ball 2cd and 4 on the Troy 13 yard line and what does he do…..call 2 pass plays. What was the result…field goal. Another bad play call: UGA had the ball in the redzone 1st and 10…Stafford throws an int. These 3 plays take 11 points off the score board and give Troy momentum.

This weekend our D has to step it up and pressure Cox like we pressured Tebow. We need to contain the screen pass and really step up the pass protection.

Where oh where to start on the bi-polar rant. I guess UGA should thank you for your continued obsession with the University of Georgia. If you really believe that hate filled rant, you need to be committed.

1) Generalizations are stupid, unless you’ve talked to everybody from “east to west” you have no idea what everybody thought of the episode in Jax which was instigated by the players

2) What Steve Spurrier “owns” is yet another 4 loss minimum season at South Carolina, his third in three years, a losing record verses Mark Richt, an embarressing stint as the Redskins coach, the title of Bill Stanfill’s personal play toy, and the distinction of being yet another coach for the University of Florida to NEVER have an undefeated, unblemished season.

2) UT beat UGA soundly, and lost to UF & Bama & Cal just as soundly.

3) So now we’re just making stuff up as we go? UGA has 2 CONSENSUS national titles, and 5 shared National Titles, but nice try.

4) Clearly FSU has been on the rise since Mark Richt left, what are they now, working on their 7th season in a row not with at least 4 losses? Compared to 15 years finishing in the top 4 with Mark Richt? Yeah, they took a huge step forward when Richt left. What an idiot.

5) We finally agree, a guy with 2 SEC Titles, four top ten finishes and an .800 winning percentage has UGA snowed. UGA is so very happily “snowed”.

6) UF lecturing UGA on class might be the strongest example of irony in the histroy of the world. Win some national titles? 5 won already, but thanks. 15 out of 18? or 1-0 and 47-37-4.

“The gators have more class than UGAY” That’s just priceless.

Coach Richt will continue to pay for the demonstration in Jacksonville. At some point down the road, a team that already has a poor track record for celebration penalties will get another one at the worst possible moment. Coaches are teachers. Consistency builds trust. A coach must send consistent messages to his players. The shame of it comes from two things: (1) Richt didn’t need to do it to beat Florida. (2) A program with Georgia’s tradition, should not need to resort to bush league tactics to win a game.

OK. For those who disagree, ask the coach. Richt knows he did a foolish thing. Had one punch been thrown, Richt knows his entire team could have been benched for the Troy game.

At Vanderbilt, pushing his celebrating team off of the Vandy logo was Richt’s greatest moment. Jacksonville was his worst.

Coach Richt will continue to pay for the demonstration in Jacksonville. At some point down the road a team that already has a poor track record for celebration penalties will get another one at the worst possible moment. Every player on the team learned that celebration penalties are tolerated. In fact, any player now has license to fire the team up with a celebration penalty.

Coaches are teachers, and consistency is the bedrock for teaching. Integrity and consistency are essential for leaders to build trust. Richt’s action in Jacksonville failed on both counts. It’s a shame because Richt didn’t need to do it to beat Florida, and a program with Georgia’s tradition should not need to resort to bush league tactics to win a game.

OK. For those who disagree, ask the coach. Richt knows he did a foolish thing. He knows he must take full responsibility for any “misunderstanding” with his players. Had one single punch been thrown, Richt knows his entire team could have been benched for the Troy game for “bench” participation in a fight.

At Vanderbilt, pushing his celebrating team off of the Vandy logo was Richt’s greatest moment. Jacksonville was his worst. And yes, Bailey deserved the penalty Saturday. What ever happened to the days when Hershel Walker used to hand the ball to the referee? Let’s act like we’ve been there before.

If UGAY thinks for one moment that they truely have a team contending for a national title in the next few years, they are totally out of their tree.

I might give you the shared title in 1942 (Berryman and Williamson), and even so that only gives one of the oldest football programs in the nation 1.5 national titles in 115 years. Nielsen ratings do not count.

Some misinformed UGAY fans have insinuated that my information is being misguided, well what else is new with Bulldog nation. Your only Concensus National Title was 1980 in most every poll, Nielsen Ratings do not count in college football.

For this program to even think that they can compete with programs like OU, Southern Cal, Florida, OSU, Miami just to name a few is a joke. This is the same program who struggles against Vandy and Troy, and loses to USC and gets their face stepped on by UT.

By the way Fulmer showed alot more class by not running up the score, which he could have done and I would done. I would have kicked your sorry redneck #$# to the curb and stepped on your throat and left you to die. By the way this is what you will be facing in the next 5-7 years with Saban and Spurrier, they will track you down like a Dog….get it?

Your program is based on senseless statistics and where you finish in terms of the top-ten of the BCS, AP or UPI, while other programs are obtaining national titles. Even Florida won their national title last year, but everyone around Athens cannot seem to quit talking about Buck Belue and Lindsey Scott.

Take all the statistics you want to make you feel better, but the bottom line is your program is inconsistent and not improving.

Spurrier said it best after beating you again this year: “it’s not like we beat some powerhouse.” LOL!!

Hugh:

Save the drama for your mama. No punches were thrown, the punishment for the teams crime was administered and accepted (no one was benched), and Richt admitted fault for his brilliant move and apologized to Commissioner Slive and the SEC and UF.

He didn’t specifically mention you in his letter, but if it will make you shut up about it, we can pretend he did. You can be part of the SEC or UF. No apology was necessary to the Bulldog Nation because the large majority of us loved it.

Get over it. UF lost. In fact, they had their a-$-$-e-s handed to them. Better luck next year. Tell Urban Meyer to stop running his QB like a Tailback and he might not be hurt for next year’s loss. Imagine that, no celebration and no hurt Tebow, what will the UF fans whine about after the loss?!

  1. Notre Dame

  2. Georgia

  3. Alabama

  4. UCLA

  5. Florida State

Wow! Awesome to belong to that group.

The reality is, when a big-time program has the cupboard fully stocked for a couple of years, they may cherry-pick two or three phenomenal players but still not rank very high on Rivals.com. (LSU and Ohio State aren’t even in the top 10.)

Having a top 5 recruiting class just means a lot of high school kids think they’ll be able to (or have been promised they’ll be able to) play in your program as true freshmen.

Also very impressive.

UGA won Consensus MNC’s in 1942 & 1980. Since the NCAA doesn’t recognize a National Champion, it’s just that, mythical. The best we have is polls. A consensus MNC in college football is where greater than 50% of the recognized polls, recognize you national champs. In 1942, more than half of the polls recognized UGA. I’m sorry if that’s not convenient for your argument, but it’s a fact. It’s also a FACT that UGA has won the SEC 12 times, more than any other SEC team save AL & TN. UGA is one of only 11 teams with 700 wins all time. UGA is in the top 10 in bowl wins, bowl appearances, and in all-americans. UGA has a winning record verses every major conference. UGA is one of four teams who has played in and won every major bowl game.

Overrated? UGA has finished higher in the final polls than in the pre-season publications roughly 65% of the time. UGA is anything but “overrated”. UGA has had 15 seasons with one loss or less.

Powerhouse, Never has been never will be? Clearly. UGA is has finished in the top 10 four of the six years Richt has been at UGA. UGA has had four different coaches win conference championships, and three who have won MNC’s. UGA is in the top 5 in NFL representation and as of a few years ago was #2 behind Miami. Clearly UGA isn’t a powerhouse. But again, thanks for your continued obsession with the University of Georgia.

Ranking recruiting classes is not an exact science, but to say it is completely meaningless just shows your ignorance. Great players make great coaches.

Many would consider Darren McFadden, Tim Tebow, or Dennis Dixon to be the best players in college football. Is it a coincidence that McFadden and Tebow were 5-star recruits and Dixon was a 4-star recruit.

This is my point: “your pathetic program has been in existence for 115 years now and only 1, maybe 2 national titles? No one gives a damn about conference titles, only national titles.

UGAY will never get the respect of like Southern Cal, Florida, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Miami, FSU or Nebraska.

Even ESPN prefers to avoid giving UGAY any coverage. When is the last time College Gameday was in Athens?

  1. Is UGAY in the hunt for another SEC title this year? NO

  2. Is UGAY in the hunt for a national title this year? NO

  3. Is UGAY in the hunt for a Heisman Winner this year? NO

  4. Will UGAY ever have more than (only) 2 Heisman Winners? NO

  5. Will UGAY ever win another national title, even if a playoff system is installed? NO

  6. Do competing schools have a more talented coaching staff and program compared to UGAY? YES

Just a few statistics to gnaw on.

If UGA plays with the intensity & emotion that they played with against Florida then they could certainly run the table & be in that position.

Every season will not be the same, all teams will have good ones & bad ones. So your rather bleak forecast on UGA’s future is quite frankly asinine & utterly stupid. UGA has accomplished more at this point in the season than many originally thought. Why can’t you give credit where credit is due?

I would bet you that in 1-2 years, Moreno (unless injured) will be a Heisman candidate. That kid has talent & the ability to lead, even as a freshman. He will only get better.

Let me hit you 4-wheeling rednecks with knowledge, because apparently there is some serious premise as to why UGAY fans are labled the most ignorant in in D-1 football:

USC (Southern Cal)

USC

  1. Won 2 National Titles on in the last 5 years, and came within 19 second of winning a third consecutive title if not for Vince Young and the Mighty Big 12.

  2. USC has 7 Heisman Winners.

  3. USC had a 35 game winning streak heading into the BCS Title Game with Texas.

  4. USC has played UGA 3 times and beat the Dogs everytime

  5. I hear SEC folks grumble about USC having a weak schedule, so let’s recap:

a. USC beat the sh#$ out of AU (opener on the road) in 2003 23-0 and also beat AU in 2002 making it back to back beatdowns.

b. USC also beat the holy sh#$ out of Arkansas (on the road) in 2005 70-17, both members of the powerful SEC.

c. When USC plays out of confernce it is always a D-1 program (i.e Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, etc.)

UGAY

  1. Won 1 National Title in 1980 and has not been close since.

  2. UGA only has 2 Heisman winners and none since 1980.

  3. UGA has never had a 35 game winning streak.

  4. UGA cannot play the Pac-10 nor open on the road with a serious competitor.

  5. UGAY opens with 2 of the weakest opponents in college football in 2008 including Georgia Southern and Central Michigan. What a f*******#$#$ joke and the reason no one takes UGA serious.

So, to those of you who claim Mike Bobo 17 INT has no idea what he is talking about, you maybe right, but I supsect it is UGAY nation that is in denial and fuels the fact that your program pales in comparison to a real “powerhouse”.

By the way, Spurrier just dropped 3 in a row and 4 of the last 5. Those last three, to UNRANKED VANDY (karma is a b!tch), UNRANKED TENNESSEE, and UNRANKED ARKANSAS.

Here is what you said yesterday on your posting at 8:30 am:

“UGAY has not won a national title since 1980, the one and only national title.”

We have won two d!ckhead (1942 & 1980). Not only that, but we finished 3 others seasons ranked #1 in at least one of the polls still recognized by the National College Football Hall of Fame. It is insignificant that you don’t accept that.

I mis-spoke. He dropped 4 of the last 8.

Glad to stop back by and see that the air of civility still reigns on the Junkyard Blog.

Here I was, hoping to perhaps find some thoughts about football, and in particular about the upcoming Georgia vs. Auburn game.

Silly me.

Mr. Bobo Int 17, or whoever you are, please give it up. I have no particular love for the Bulldogs, but some of your facts are not facts; they’re simply your unsubstantiated opinions. And please stop with the UGAY garbage. No matter which school you support, that continuing reference is childish.

And since there is some faint hint that you may be from a non-SEC school, please consider that until the last year or two, USC (California) had to schedule strong out-of-conference opponents just to achieve minimal strength of schedule. SEC teams get more than enough strength of schedule in-conference.

And while I agree with you that the present era is more important than the past, simply admit this: Georgia has five national championships. Period. Lose the nitpicky stuff. They have five.

I’d love to hear somebody’s thoughts on how Georgia will handle the quick slant routes that Auburn killed the Gators with.

Do the math. UGA only has 1 Concensus National Title, 1980. 1942 was a split betwee the Nielsen Ratings.

Dear Mr. BI. 17,

Never thought I would be defending Georgia, but here goes:

There is no math involved. Georgia has five national titles by virtue of the prevailing system in place at the time for determining and recognizing such things. “Consensus” is a weasel word. A title is a title. 1927, 1942, 1946, 1968, 1980. Please, let it go.

Octavio:

Thanks for that “detailed analysis” on the pecking order in the SEC.

I completely agree with you… you were talking about lightest color uniforms to darkest weren’t you?

Jeff, now that is my kind of sarcasm!

Mike Bobo 17. Southern Cal has an excellent program and has done very well this century, probably the top program since 2000.

Did I just find common ground with Mike Bobo 17?

Mike Bobo 17 INT-Just making small talk here but what team do you happen to pull for? I am just curious thats all. I can tell that you totally despise UGA…but I am game for a logical football conversation about each others fav. teams. Seems better than handing out insults all day. If you like TEch then good for you…if you like UF then good for you…if you are a BAMA fan then good for you….just curious who your team is thats all.

Mike Bobo 17 INT is a half-bred indian/white, nice guy but flunk out from UGA in 1975 (his first quarter at UGA). His real name is Dale Ellis but we call him “The 3-inch Wonder”.I was his classmate in SOC100, Dr. Max Miller. He didn’t talk much then, but a nice guy.

Before the Ga - Fla Game the War Eagles figured they had a “W” against the Dawgs in the bag. Now they are more than a little worried - especially after LSU stuck it to S. Carolina and the War Eagles are out of the SEC playoff. But they will still get “up” for this game - they always do. Auburn may be the most improved team in the country this year. They are tough, physical and have a gameday coach that is perhaps second only to Spurrier in the SEC (at least). But the Dawgs have proven to everyone - most importantly to themselves that they can win a big game this year if they play 60 minutes of football.

It is going to have to suck to be in Athens on Saturday, watching Auburn step on your face just like Tennessee did in Knoxville this year.

To even consider that UGA’s defense can stop AU is a joke. UGA allowed UF too many points on them, and every team is not going to rollover like UF did.

Vangorder and Russell were the only decent 2 DC’s this program has ever had, and now everyone is singing Martinez’s praise….we will see when Tubby lights you up on Sat., and the AU defense puts Stafford and company flat on their a*.

It has to also suck to be a Bulldog fan, spending thousands of dollars in booster money, tickets and parking to watch a mediocre team that will never has another shot at a National Title.

Well, I suppose there is not much to do in Athens on a Saturday, so enjoy your day.

Oh yeal, Spurrier called and said he plans to whip your a* again next year, then the year after, the year after that….matter of fact he came back to College Coaching just to kick UGA’s a* again.
