Stumbling toward Tuscaloosa

True to form, the Bulldogs took the field for a game against a lesser opponent Saturday with lethargic play and looking like they wished they were somewhere else. Then they started getting sloppy and things got even worse in a first quarter to forget.

When you’re a Division 1 team and you’ve played 15 minutes on the clock with a not very good 1-AA team and you’re tied 3-3, something is wrong.

QB Matthew Stafford unfortunately led the way, misfiring badly on passes, calling the wrong protection scheme and fumbling while getting sacked. Looking like his early freshman self, in other words, instead of the accomplished sophomore Mark Richt had led us to expect. Stafford just didn’t seem to have his head in the game for the first quarter and a half.

Finally, midway through the second quarter, the Georgia offense woke up and put it away, ending up with a respectable score for a game like this.

Why the Georgia coaching staff seems unable to get the Dawgs mentally ready for these games, even in this season of the Appalachian State Lesson, is a mystery. Whatever they’re doing in the way of game prep for these gimme games just isn’t working.

Let’s face it, if the Dawgs play in any of their remaining games like they did in the first quarter Saturday, it could get ugly. Several teams on the schedule are suddenly looking a lot tougher, including Kentucky and Troy. (Granted, a couple aren’t, notably Auburn.) Mess around like this in too many games, and Georgia easily could find itself having to sweat out a winning record this season instead of worrying about winning the SEC East.

GOOD STUFF: Knowshon Moreno. He’s still looking like a freshman at times, running into blockers and missing holes, but he’s already the mainstay of our running game and getting better every week. His first touchdown run was a beauty. By the end of the season, he should be awesome. … Once Stafford got on track, he made some really nice throws. And that play with the fake-out diamond formation of all the receivers to one side while the QB runs the draw to the other side worked brilliantly, with Stafford getting a 22-yard gain. I know Mike Bobo justified using the play against Western Carolina by saying “that was the best play in that situation,” but it might have been wiser to keep it under wraps for another week. … MoMass was back as the starting flanker, replacing the drop-prone Tony Wilson, and led the team with three catches. … Brannan Southerland continues to be Mr. Dependable when it comes to short-yardage plays. … That drive where Georgia moved from its 35 to the WC 23 in just two pass plays and then Moreno capped it off with a TD run was one of the prettiest UGA drives in quite a while. … Mikey Henderson has a nice punt return that set up that long touchdown pass from Joe Cox to Demiko Goodman. It was good to see Cox finally getting some playing time.

BAD STUFF: Both lines (and our linebackers) had trouble at times with a 1-AA team, which is pretty disturbing. There were a lot of missed tackles, too. And the Dawgs didn’t look very good adjusting to the Catamounts’ no-huddle offense. … Georgia’s not-so-special teams continue to have serious problems. Our kickoff coverage has been poor. On the “Fifth Quarter Show,” former UGA kicking great Kevin Butler noted that the Dawgs are engaging receiving team’s blockers instead of evading them and heading for the man with the ball. Whatever the problem is, Georgia needs to fix it fast. Likewise the problems with getting the right personnel on the field for punts and the opposing team’s field-goal tries (the Dawgs had to burn another couple of timeouts Saturday because of 12 men on the field) and with illegal shifts in our punting formation. … Two more dropped passes. Enough said. … Stafford continues to overlook wide-open receivers while missing on tougher throws to the end zone.

OTHER STUFF: So it’s back to Bama for the first time since 2002. Maybe Coach Richt can get Pat Dye to do another motivational job for the Dawgs. … What’s with the ESPN announcers and Alabama’s QB? Literally every mention of him in their coverage of the game against Arkansas used all three names, “John Parker Wilson.” It’s not like he’s an assassin or serial killer. … One of my brothers, who’s involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, says they’ve been told there’s a possibility the kickoff time for the Dawgs’ game against Ole Miss will be moved to 9 p.m. Not only would that inconvenience the fans from South Georgia, but it would mean the FCA would have to scrap its plans to have 2,000 high school athletes at the game since a lot of them come from more than three hours away. Let’s hope Damon Evans isn’t blinded by dollar signs and vetoes any such late kickoff.

It wasn’t just the first quarter that the Dawgs looked lethargic. Except for the last few minutes of the 2nd quarter, WCarolina matched them step for step in the first half.

You would think having Spurrier rub your nose in a loss for a week would fire a team up and they would come out of the gates looking for blood.

Apparently, not so with this team.

I just can’t imagine a team with Erk Russell on the sidelines playing like the Bulldawgs did last Saturday.

Bama looked good, not great, last night. Arkansas D made them better than they were. But both teams showed continuity which georgia did not(except for the end of the 2nd and start of the 3rd quarters) I’m not sure why we play down to the level of our opponents, but we do. Don’t blame this on youth. Our veteran teams have played down to there opponents as well. But remember this. Despite all the negative stuff that we continue to bring up about this coaching staff, Georgia has more wins in Richts seven years than any other SEC school and is 4th in the nation with wins. 2002 was the only year we consistently looked crisp. We will be back in Atlanta. Maybe not this year but sooner than later. (We also have more SEC crowns in the past seven years than anyone else.) Coaches must be doing something right. Now aren’t you glad I didn’t just bash the guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bama Fan, you missed the point, its not that they were sayling John Parker, they were saying John Parker Wilson every time………

everlasting dog, The Tide did not look that good, it was that man coverage defense Arkansas ran all night with their corners never knowing where the ball was….does that remind you of someone else? and Arkansas kept killing themselves the first half……and what about that last interference call? Regardless, the Tide did not deserve to win that game, Arkansas hung around and did what they needed, but you have to really question their clock management on their last posession, capped by an incomplete pass….

War Eagle: You seemed MORE concerned about what Bama does than your own team. Maybe that is the problem with your beloved West Opelika Univ Tigers.

If you’d take care of “whatever” ails you and stop worrying about what Bama does, maybe you’d be better off.

That said, the Ga/Bama game will be a good one. Ga is good and has a great coaching staff. Bama is improving as they showed in the Ark game and they have a great staff too. You have to be good to come back like that. Don’t care who you are. Ark is tough and will kick some major butt this year. Watch out West Opelika Univ. Ark has a special plan just for you.

I waste my time reading this crap just for kicks but I have to tell you that is time for all you SEC fanatics to wake up and smell the coffee. You have a mediocre conference that other than Florida have no hope of winning a National Championship in the next few years. You think because you are the SEC you are the best conference but you in fact are not my friends!

There is more football being played in the ACC and Big Ten this year than you will see in the SEC. Pull for the SEC if you want but it will be Florida blowing out the rest of you losers. Check the rankings, three of the top 10 are from the Big Ten. That should tell all y’all something!

Did any of you people actually watch the game or are you all just saying the same thing? Base D, basic plays….. Stafford was on Target with passes, come on people watch the game dont just say what everyone else is saying. Bill King are you sure you went to the game? Stafford’s only bad play was when he called the wrong protection on ONE play. Bama did not look very good either, that was a sloppy game that somebody had to win. Come on people please pay attention and dont just complain about everything

Stafford’s problems begin and 90% end with the our pitiful OL situation, which is ultimately Richt’s fault. Goff had the same tendency to recruit and load up on highly prized skilled players and never stocked the trenches cupboard. I’d rather have a great OL and an average QB than a great QB and a weak OL. Look at Brandon Cox at Auburn, a very average QB that somehow looks like he forgot how to play the game but his problems are completely due to his young OL. This will continue to be an issue this year and people will be mocking all those who hailed Stafford. As long as he is able to stay healthy, he will be a great pro QB, better than Tebow, but we may only see a small glimpse of his prodigy due to our perpetual OL and WR problems. Stafford has the mechanics, the arm, and the head, so much so that he is already on the radar of many pro scouts. Having said this, he knows that he is likely to have pressure coming on any given play so he is literally staying on his toes so much that he’s not settling into the pocket and it’s causing him problems.

Our issue with dropping the ball is serious and I get the feeling that even Richt is at a loss as to why. As Richt said last year, the scrawny 5’6”, 150 lbs WR he played with in high school had no problems handling his passes, so there’s no reason why ours should have any problems with his speed on the ball.

As to the 9 p.m. kickoffs, I am so tired of hearing the whine of the “can’t get back to S. GA in time to get up for church” crowd. For some reason LSU doesn’t have this fan issue and they have plenty of fans in the Shreveport Monroe region that have 3+ hour commutes to the game. LSU embraces the late games cause they know “Death Valley” is intimidating to play in at night. When they have early kickoffs, it’s not so intimidating. And it’s not because LSU fans are any less religious. They get upset over early kickoffs cause they know it significantly diminishes the homefield advantage of Death Valley. Anytime Sanford Stadium has been remotely intimidating has been during night games, it’s no coincidence.

Larry, yes I hope UGA, LSU, Tenn etc kicks Bama butt before the big “6 in a row day”. You speak volumes for the lowest fan graduate base in the country including Mike Price UTEP school. I am very concern about Auburn, but youth and mistakes is manner of maturity, not criticism as Bama treated Shula, Price and the players… Dubose desired it… General, THANKS, tough loss, Florida is much better than I expected. South Carolina will not beat LSU, UGA could upset Florida, UGA- Tenn toss=up….LSU clear winner in the West so their you go…ANYTHING could happen.

Bill King, I have just a couple of questions for you - Where are you from? Did you play high school or college football? How long have you been in GA? If you attended college, was it Auburn? Where did you learn to write such snooty and derogatory literature about 18 and 19 year old kids? What would you say if they were in a capacity to write such remarks about you for everyone to read? When I buy the AJC in a couple of years, I’m going to resign you to the Warren MI weekly gazette so you can get a lot more experience and so you can forget about GA football. Deal? In the meantime until I take over the AJC, I recommend that you ask for a transfer to the “inserts” department. If you need a recommendation, let me know and I will gladly accomodate you.

Concerning your query about announcers using the full name of Bama’s John Parker Wilson, this is often a Southern form. The same occurred with Bama’s famous quarterback, Johnny Mack Brown, who went on to become a Hollywood cowboy star.

Terry -

The ACC along with almost every other college conference will be playing football this fall. Stop laughing open your eyes and take time to watch objectively. The SEC will be playing “who can score the most points in their defeat to Florida” no more - no less.

Even with Michigan’s woes this year even the Big Ten is a stronger conference than the SEC and has been for years. The only team in the SEC that could contend with Ohio State, Wisconsin, or Penn State is Florida. Make peace with the Gators as they will be carrying your Southern Excretement Conference banner again this year.

Y’all are like a bunch of newborn pups, in time your eyes will open up and you will be able to see your excretement.

I was on the sidelines for the game and let me just say that it was more than looking lethargic, they were plum terrible on both sides. If we play that way the rest of the season, we will be 0-10 in the SEC east for the last two years. These young men don’t understand that each time they go out onto that field it could be their last, and they need to play like it. I want to see a fire that nevers need any help burning. This is the best time of their lives! I know they have all the abilities to get the job done, but will they? Man up DAWGS if you don’t the TIDE will break your backs. Bama`s glory days when they paid $200,000 for a recruit(Albert Means) and turn Auburn in for airline ticket.. Auburn past does not have a halo, but Bamma is a secret within its secret forever.

I will meet you in the parking lot of your choosing about your insulting my friend Wareagle. You are a pathetic piece of refuse. I should know, I am a garbage man by vocation. If you had any idea how many UGA football players that Wareagele sent to us by being a high school coach, you never would have insulted him the way you did. If you do know this fact as I know, then you are the typical classless trash that wants to tag onto Georgia football. Get off my bandwagon, before I kick you off. Or you could be the typical bug or reptile who does not have the courage to respond as a fan of their mighty schools. Either way, you are one classless SOB, and if I ever meet you in public, I will make you regret it. Heck I bet I could beat you in a battle of wits with a lobotomy handicap thrown in just to make it fair. Get Real,

Please do not ever talk about College Football again. We like people who have a factual base to back up their points, instead of opinion. First of all since this is a Georgia blog just look at their Out of Conference results and bowl record over lets say the last ten years. Second im going to throw some facts at ya here. Lets look at the “bad” losses from each conference this year, since the SEC is so bad. Big Ten: Florida Atlantic, Iowa State, Duke, App State (1 AA), Bowling Green ACC: UConn, Wyoming, Central Florida Big 12: Troy, Northern Iowa, Kent State PAC 10: Utah, New Mexico, Cincy, and BYU SEC: worst team they have lost to is Missouri.

Some side notes: Preseason ACC pick VT loses by 41 against SEC school. Big East Co Favorite Louisville loses at bottom Tier SEC school. The Cal win against Tennessee doesn’t look so good anymore does it? Now find another sport to talk about because we don’t have time for people like you.

One more thing check out UGA’s past ten bowl games, 8-2 in those games most of which are Big Ten and ACC slugger

Now for Dr. Bill King. Just quit. Just give up the blawg. Let someone who knows history and actually is positive do this blawg. Bill, I was in the Dooley years. How often did we really beat up on the teams we should have. I remember barely beating the Temple Owls. 3-3 at the half. We have not, nor seem able to now, beat the heck out of the wannabes. Hey we may lose to Troy. Don’t know. But I am positive we will beat Bama and any other team we face because I know in my heart that we can. We may lose them all, but I feel with what we have in players and Coaches, on any Saturday, we can beat any, I mean any, team in the NCAA. I will eat crow on Sunday and tell you on Monday how we can beat the next guys.

I cannot go into my job on Monday with the attitude that we cannot do the improbable or the hard. I just find a way to get it done, Thanks Larry the Cable Guy.

Some more side notes: Three top 10 teams have lost this year. The SEC is responsible for two of those wins, and the 1-AA Southern Conference can be thanked for the other. Aren’t y’all the same MORONS that sit around blogging about how you can’t wait for the upcoming fall and all of the success it is to bring? Yet, you watch a game that you don’t truley understand, listen to eternal pessimists like Bill King and spew your venom? I support these DAWGS through-and-through. If I have said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times. These young players need someone to broadside their helmets in the locker room and fire them up. Youth this, young that, the excuses are are worn out and used up. A fired up, explosive attitude on the field will cover up or compensate for most of the short comings and inexperience of the players. These kids need a motivator; maybe someone to explain that if you keep waddling back to the huddle like a wounded duck we are going to bench your butt and the pro scouts will never even get the chance to see how good you can be. This entire team needs to take some lessons from Marino. He is 100% hustle 100% of the time. I love my Dawgs I just needed to vent some after seeing Florida wipe the floor with the Vols. Tennessee’s team effort reminded me a lot of us this year. A whole lot of sluggishness. It’s not too late to turn the attitudes around.

And what have your doggies contributed to the cause? NOTHING!!

Like I said Florida is the SEC this year - your only strength. The rest of the SEC is along for the humor. Make peace with the Gators and their fan base because you will be pulling for them again this year like last year. The only thing is, they won’t be in the NC game this year. While you are at it, make peace with the fans from your other conference teams as well, you will need their support as you all go through your pathetic 6 or 7 loss seasons.

OPEN THINE EYES – The SEC ain’t what she used to be.

Furthermore, yours is an opinion and the posts of others as well. Please take time to scroll through them all before you call them facts. If they are facts then I must change my favorite saying to “facts are like butt holes, everyone has them”. I don’t think I will though, it just wouldn’t be right.

Good luck getting by Troy in a few weeks. Come back with your “facts” after that game. In case you missed it, they scored 41 in their win over the Cowboys Friday night. UGA? You scored 35. There’s some facts for ya!! You wanted ‘em, you got ‘em

Just incase you wanted more (Im actually getting sick of hearing myself prove you wrong.) Lets look at the BCS, since it is how we determine National Champions. The BCS began in the 1998 season, the SEC holds the most wins of any conference and they have an overall record of 9-4 in BCS games including a 3-0 record in BCS Title games. I want to address and agree with something J.C. said. I am tired of Georgia fans complianing about kick off times and the 25 - 30,000 of the fans who are at the games that sit on thier butts for most, if not all, of the games. This is the world we live in now! the game will start when it starts and if you don’t like it then deal! I, for one, only get to 2-3 home games and maybe 1-2 road games because of personal (kids) resons. But if a game starting at 7 in the morning or 9 at night (god forbid it was a week night) I am there in one form or fashion. Like it or not TV has helped build this program to where it is today. It’s time our fans get off thier butts and support the team every play regardless who they are playing or what time of the day it is!!! That is the reality we live in now!!!!

Last year???? Typical SEC mentality (especially from the Dog crowd), live in the past because you can’t stand the present.

The reality of the PRESENT - not the past is The SEC is not what it used to be. Carry on if you must but open you eyes and admit the SEC is a one-horse conference this year.

Of course if you insist in carrying on, it adds proof to the statement that you are the Southern Excretement Conference.

And the Big Ten….Wisconsin had fits with Citadel. Michigan is a joke.Losing to a 1-AA school at HOME. Minnesota loses to Florida Atlantic.Northwestern loses at HOME to DUKE who had not won in the last 22 games.

The only conference that is close to the SEC in competition is the PAC 10. But wait… UTAH smacked UCLA( a top ten team) 44 to 6. So I guess that is out the window as well. The SEC is KING in college football. And LSU will give Florida a run for their money.Hell Kentucky (usually a SEC cellar team) beat Louisville last night.

Son just leave the drugs and the loose women alone.

Now lets forget GET REAL…who is hanging out at the opium den, and talk about …THE DAWGS.

Good game. Dont fret that we did not win 84-0.We got to play a number of reserves. And we won.

BAMA will be tough. You dont go to Tusseltown and not have a fight on you hands. We need to establish the run and make sure the receivers hang on to the passes. And we need to work on special teams this week. To many mental errors and mistakes in that area.SPECIAL TEAMS for crying out loud.

The year is still young.

GO DAWGS!

I continue to be amazed at how people are bashing this team. They lose by 4 points to a veteran South Carolina team and all of the sudden the sky is falling. That was FOUR points folks, not FORTY. They probably looked lethargic against Western Carolina because they’ve spent a week hearing how much they suck from their own fans. I’m not delusional. This team has issues. They may not win the SEC this year, or even the SEC East. But this is a young team (not an excuse, just the truth) and they are giving it all they got. If they weren’t South Carolina would have beaten us by 40 points. Quit crying in your milk and have some faith in this team.

Ok, if it is this year you want then go back and look at what I already told you. Three top 10 teams have lost, two thanks to the SEC and the schools weren’t Florida. LSU and Kentucky are the only D-1 schools to defeat top 10 teams this year. Once again NOT Florida, as far as the Dawgs this year they are 1-0 against out of conference BCS schools this year. If anything has been proven about the SEC this year is that it is deeper this year than ever before, a lower tier SEC school beat # 9 Louisville. Once again these are facts, you have your opinions which you are entitled to. I simply choose to look at what happens on the football field instead. Please come back with one fact against the SEC for your argument.

Get Real,

So lets live in the present. Two SEC teams in the top 3 RIGHT NOW. The best of the two is not Florida. Florida does not have the speed to match up with LSU and neither does any team in this country (including Pathetic 10 losers USC). Your right, Florida will not make it to the NC…..LSU will. How is that for the strength of the SEC? With all your talk, who would you line up against these two teams?

As for my DAWGS, they just need to learn how to win. The teams of ‘02, ‘03 and ‘05 knew how to win and that came with great coaching and experience. We will come around and when we do, look out!

Guys, who is this moron Get Real? My goodness, he redefines the meaning of “dumber than dirt”. Ohio State is 0-8 against the SEC in bowls. O-8 dude and Georgia is 6-0 against the Big Ten in bowls. And the ACC? Now that is the biggest joke around. Other than Wake Forest beating SEC cellar dwellar Ole Miss last year, it is hard to recall an ACC win over an SEC team recently. Lets see, the Dawgs beat both Techs last year, the Reptiles tortured the Noles, the Cocks whupped Clemson in Death Valley, Vandy and Bama beat Duke….yeah, I know, so does everyone EXCEPT Northwestern from the good ole Big Ten. Yeah UK slammed Clemson in the Music City Bowl too. Get Real, it is time you lived up to your moniker dude.

First of all I want to apoligize for my negativity earlier. As a life long Dawg fan, nothing that does or does not happen with my team will diminish my enthusiasm and hopes for the Dawgs. I look forward to each new game with the same anticipation.

Cuz, hope you have a good experience in MN and most of all I hope and pray all goes well with your daughter. While some of us have nothing more to worry about from week to week is how well our team will look on Saturday, your circumstance is a reminder that loyalty to family is the most important priority in life, and that fact transcends all us fans, no matter if you are a Dawg, War Eagle, Volunteer or even a %$#tor.

Oh hell, I am sorry to get all mushy, but with a special needs kid of my own your predicament weighs heavy on my heart and encouraged me add your family to my prayer list.

Hey, Get Real..

…you need to “get real.” The Gators are good, but you’re only giving them credit because they made your Ohio state team their b*h last year. What about LSU? What about, oh, ANY other SEC team (most of whom could beat Wisconsin and Penn State)? You’re talking about the Big Ten, but how deep does your conference go? Does the Big 10 have six ranked teams? Iowa loses to Iowa State, Wisconsin barely escapes against the Citadel, Michigan loses to everyone except the worst Irish team EVER and you’re talking smack about the SEC?

The difference in our conference is that you have to get ready each week or you will lose. Every team is a threat to win every game. Just ask Auburn.

Could Ohio State or Penn State or Wisconsin have 10-win seasons if they had to play LSU, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas or Auburn? Pick almost any combination of seven and you’re looking at a minimum of 2 losses for any of the Big 10 schools (three if you include both LSU and Florida in your seven, since I don’t think ANY Big 10 school could beat either of those teams, even if they tried a big 10 times).

You’re as ignorant about football as you are about spelling (the word, by the way, is “excrement,” not “excretement”).

Jeez…spellcheck….

Well let me tell you something buddy, real fans watch their team during the good times and the bad. So don’t come in here with your “statistics” and think you are impressing anyone. Michigan’s loss to a 1-AA team just proves that on any given day in football either team can win. When you have a bad game you deal with it…you fix the mistakes…and you move on. georgia has a problem being very erratic on offense. They have the athletes to go to a more spread offense similiar to florida, oregon or appalachian state. Imagine what gaps would be created for thomas brown and moreno. Recruiting becomes easier when kids see such an exiciting offensive scheme. The defense is young but athletic and will only improve during the season.

I agree fully with all comments concerning attitude and motivation of the Bulldogs. There is NO sense of urgency within the team from top to bottom. Coaches included. Don’t understand how this could be, but it is what it is. One would think that the “powers that be” would understand with a young team, motivation would be paramount. Obviously, not so. I have been watching the Bulldogs since 1959, and have NEVER seen such apathy. Unbelievable. It ISN’T a matter of talent. If a team plays hard with motivation and loses, there is no shame. Cannot imagine Wally Butts or Erk Russell tolerating such a lack of motivation. Heck, many a Saturday the Bulldogs won because of their motivation, and NOT strictly due to their superior talent when these coaches were on the sidelines. This problem had better be rectified QUICKLY. All you bloggers crowing about potential national championships better just be concerned with insuring a winning season. The game agains ‘Bama will be important. Hope this sense of importance can be communicated. Futher, if anyone is foolish enough to think ‘08 will be significantly easier, they need to review ‘08’s schedule. This business about the Bulldog’s OL & DL’s being young is unsettling. It has been since 2002 that the Bulldogs have had a competent OL. That’s FIVE season’s ago. What’s the problem?? NO team will win in regular fashion in the SEC without competent OL & DL line play. No doubt, Knowshon Marino is the ONLY player that shows motivation. He IS the leader at this point. It is sickening to watch the Bulldog’s OL waddle back to the huddle. I question their collective manhood. Man up guys!! Make it happen!! WAREAGLE, do you live in the Auburn area?? If so, I’d love to meet you for lunch sometime when I’m over visiting #1 daughter, Anne Randolph, at school. Think we could have nice time and conversation. If you are interested, we’ll figure out some way to communicate and get together. BTW, WAREAGLE, I’ll be touching base with Anne Randolph later today to get a first hand post-mortem on the game. Any news, and I’ll report back. General, I do feel you pain. Don’t know what’s up with the VOLS, but something definitely is. Let’s all chill out. The season isn’t done by a long shot, but there HAS to be a definite sense of urgency, and it needs to carry through the remainder of the season.

You guys are all crazy. 45 points with the second string playing the last quarter and a half. Did anyone actually watch the game? Knowshon played well, Stafford settled down and played well, their offense went backwards for most of the second half. I will take a 30 point victory any day of the week. If you are so dissappointed in the Dawgs play, go root for another team. You all seem so caught up on potential, well I hate to break it, but CMR is the best thing to happen to our program since a running back named Walker. Somehow the guy coming in and winning an SEC championship for the first time in 20 years is not good enough for you? Bringing in top 10 classes since he has been here is not good enough? Having the best record in the SEC for the last 7 years is not good enough? Playing for 3 SEC titles and winning 2 or them is not good enough? Running a respectable program and being a respectable man is not good enough? Would you rather have Spurrier or Saban, guys with plenty of hardware but no class? Just look at his body of work and the future. This is setting up perfectly for the next two years with Stafford as an experienced Jr./Sr., Knowshon and Caleb King carrying the rock and a more experienced offensive and defensive line. We should be challenging for an SEC title/BCS Championship for the next two years and you guys have the nerve to talk about motivation? Not even USC trojans go undefeated every year and they have all americans at every position. So in summary, if you are already questioning CMR after a 9 win year which was an injured place kicker away from being an 11 win team and one loss this year when there is still an entire year of football to be played, you should go ahead and jump of the bandwagon because lets face it you either don’t understand competition in the SEC or you are a band-wagon fan in the first place. For all of you true Dawgs fans, I say go Dawgs, and for the rest of you go somewhere else to whine about how “the boys aren’t performing to your expectations” somewhere else because your expectations are rediculous and your negativity is based on emotion and not fact.

Hey, “bama rulez”, I assure you that no Dawg fan on this Blog gives a fat rat’s a$$ about the next five years of Bama football. You guys have been saying that for the last 10 years. Your AD won’t keep a coach long enough to re-establish your long past Bear Bryant glory years… You may as well kiss that pipe dream goodbye! As soon as the NFL comes calling again, Nick Saban, the money hungry w******* that he is, will ditch Bammer for the highest offer.

Coach Richt: Please, wake the guys up! I know that you are a good man, but it may be time to shake things up a little bit. Motivation by threat comes to mind. Psychotic lockerroom outbursts involving chair throwing and drywall damage also seems feasable. When do you get angry with these guys? There is no reason that we shouldn’t have hung 60 points on the pitiful Catamounts. Our team is slow to the ball, slow off the ball, slow to the sideline, slow to the field… Do they have someplace else to be? Are they too tired to play, or maybe just not that interested?

People of this blog, you may not agree with me on this, but I think I would rather see every lollygagging starter riding the bench rather than loafing around on the field. If it costs us games, so be it. One post on here earlier made a good point: If we have a problem with inexperience, shouldn’t we really be overplaying? When I played football, if we didn’t perform, we didn’t play. Simple as that. You want to field a team that can compete every year, but playing a bunch of 4 and 5-star recruits doesn’t mean sh!t if their head isn’t in the game!

Dear God: Please light a fire under the rear ends of our football team. Help them to understand that playing at Georgia is an honor, not a priviledge. I would also consider it a personal favor, Lord, if you could guide our beloved Dawgs to smoke Bama in Tuscaloosa this Saturday. Thank you for my many blessings… Amen.

I’m a GA grad and a lifelong fan. But the truth hurts and here it goes: We are just not that good this season. If anyone noticed, Okie State got destroyed by Troy. So don’t read too much about the first weekend. We are going to be overmatched by Alabama, Tenn, Fla, Kentucky and probaly evenly matched up with with Vandy, Tech and even Auburn and Troy. If Stafford doesn’t get sharper and we don’t play with more intensity, we could be looking at a 4-win season. And stop banking on 08’, GA may never beat the Gayturds for another 20 years!

I think some of the UGA faithful are overreacting. We’re only three games into the season. South Carolina’s not that bad a team and it’s very hard to take away much from a game like Western Carolina. The best thing I learned from Bama’s game with WC was that a Saban-coached team was crisper in every aspect of the game than Shula’s (even down to substitutions and sending in plays - there was little confusion about assignments).

It’s too tough to call the game this weekend at this point. Bama may have a letdown after the kind of emotional game they just played and we still lack depth at some key positions on defense. On the other hand, UGA still hasn’t located a running game, which for Arkansas, along with some turnovers, is what kept them in the game (By the way, McFadden might be the best back in the SEC since Hershel - my hat is off to him). I’m not sure what to make of UGA’s defense. Are they better on that side of the ball than Arkansas? Probably overall yes; Bama won’t be able to burn them on the deep ball so much but will probably have an easier time running this week. This thing may turn out like the UGA-USC game a couple of weeks back. I think the fans on both sides predicting some sort of blowout are kidding themselves.

Let’s face it, the SEC is loaded with talent. I don’t think I’ve seen riches like this in years and it’s amazing when teams like Vandy and Kentucky are also blessed. With the exception of Orgeron, the coaching ranks are also very well-stocked. And those of you who think Saban will be gone in two years don’t know much about his situation. His wife wasn’t happy to leave Baton Rouge, she never liked Miami, and she loves Tuscaloosa. Miami was an ambition thing for him and I think he’s over that now. Will he be there until he retires? Maybe not, but he’s not leaving anytime soon. That’s good news for us; if he can build a talent base like the one he left for Les Miles, he’ll be tough to beat.

Get Real:

You are so full of it your eyes are chocolate brown. The SEC has been the strongest football conference for over 30 years. The ACC is a joke and the big 10 want nothing to do with playing against the SEC. Just check out their bowl record against the SEC. Winning MAYBE 15-20 percent. The great Ohio State got there butts wipped last year and LSU or Florida will be doing it to whoever they play for the national championship this year. Who and when was the last ACC team to win the national title? So why don’t you crawl back into your cave of misguided ignorance and hibernate for a while.

hey mariettadawg you can talk that bullsh** all you want, the way CNS bolted from the dolphins even if he wanted to go back to the nfl(which he doesn’t) no team will offer so i dont think we have anything to worry about in that regard. Here is one last thing for you to ponder, in the whole amount of 18 days of recruiting CNS put together a better recruiting class than shula did in four years,so you might as well tuck your tail between your legs and go back up on the porch because the tide is on the rise!!!!

Noyellow, whiteandgold has got nothing. NOTHING. No team to cheer for so he has to breakout the middle school crack backs like “your gay”, “you work at Walmart”, and “take the short bus” bits. He would be correct on the “none of us are worthy to speak to the whiteandmold. None us can actually get down to his level. Therefore I suggest we all just ignore the punk. How pathetic it must be to be a Tech fan nowdays.

The comments regarding the Big Ten being better than the SEC are a joke. The Big Ten always looks good until they play a team with speed which most of the SEC teams have.

Noyellow, just like before the season started I liked our chances against OK State, SC and Bama. I said it before that against OK State we played like the end of last season (we can call this team A) and against SC and Western (we can call this team B) we played like the middle of last season.

Depends on which team shows up. Definitely a statement game and we better play 60 minutes strong. Don’t let up don’t relax and score as many points as you can. Arkansas came back from 21 down to make it a game. Us or Bama can do the same thing so neither team can afford to sit back at anytime. Like I told that Bama guy on here Saturday when he was on here talking smack and up by 21 points, the game is 60 minutes long and you have got to play all 60 minutes. This game I think you will have to play 65 minutes to ensure victory.

Bama-N-Atl, lot of people count on Michigan and OSU to define the Big Ten. OSU got exposed last year and Michigan got exposed this year (Carr I think retire at the end of last year and thought he could cruise on the talent he had coming back). Wisconsin just has an easy schedule to pass them through the rankings. Not this year though.

Big game with you guys coming up. Hope we can come out fired up and act like we know how to play football. As much as I dislike Saban and his ways. Appears he has gotten you guys on the right track and fast.

MoMass was back as the starting flanker, replacing the drop-prone Tony Wilson, and led the team with three catches.

Bill,

Tony Wilson has only dropped the one pass which was in the first game. That one in the South Carolina Game was not a drop as the ball was high, delivered late and he got speared in the back with a helmet while being hit by two other SC DB’s at the same time. Also he made two other good catches with very good runs with the ball afterwards. Sean Bailey, Tripp Chandler, Mike Moore have actually dropped more passes than Wilson. So you need to ease off of that about him.

By Walker

September 17, 2007 5:04 PM | Link to this

John Parker Wilson is referred to by all three names because that is his name. His parents call him John Parker, not Parker, not John. When he came to Tuscaloosa, he was referred to as John Parker. Somewhere along the line, commentators decided to start calling him just Parker Wilson. They are finally getting it right.

As I was driving home Sunday, a car with a G tag on the front came up behind me and, after noticing my Yellow Jackets magnet and GT sticker on the back of my van, the people in the car (all three) pumped their fists and were hooting and hollering like they had some how won the national championship game and it happened to be against Tech.

After they passed me (speeding of course), I noticed they also had a G sticker on their rear window and (here’s the best part) also had a gay RAINBOW sticker on their rear deck lid.

It is truly pathetic lately. I have not seen the stadium that quite in a very long time. Its not just the players and coaches having problems…it’s also the “fans” in the stadium. Support this team support the dawgs or stay the heck out. White and gold-get off the computer mommies calling you for dinner! 6 in a row, so what if you win one. We will have beaten you 6 in a row.

Bill——You said that Goodman would have made more sense to run that fade route that Henderson ran against SC.After he caught the deep corner td against W Carolina I beleave he could be the deep ball receiver we need. The long post corner, fades and such are going to be needed if we’re to compete against the top sec teams. If Stafford can get the timing on those deep throws it’ll force safties back and open the whole field.

first off john parker wilson is named after his dad, parker, who use to be a professional baseball scout and minor league player. second bama is better than ya’ll think, we beat west carolina 52-6 in the first game of the season, now im not crap talking or anything like just stating that these teams are pretty much equal in talent. both have exciting freshman RBs for example. i know two things for sure: 1. its gonna be a battle 2. It is gonna be LOUD, i have went to a ton of UGA games growing up(im from GA) but i attend school at Bama and it is by far louder. but come in ttown and have fun, enjoy the atmosphere, and the bar hours on friday(ill be out) because they are changing them next month… ROLL TIDE!!!

This week I am a FAN of CHAN and a FAN of SABAN. It really is going to be a raping. John Parker Wilson will more than likely throw for 400 yards on your “D” (if thats what you want to call those 11 wastes of space) opposing the offense. You better pay attention to whats going to happen because Taylor Bennett has a lot of that waiting for you. He and Tashard are much more than you could ever want. Get ready fleabags the end is near. Get Real—“Make peace with the gators and their fans because you will be pulling for them again this year like last year”— Are you ignorant or has your mullet grown into your brain impairing what little is up there.I am a true UGA gator hater and all true UGA gator haters pull for 2 teams i.e. UGA and whoever plays Florida. I was a true gator hater long before Dooley was spanking your as* and I’ll be the same until I pass on to that giant fire hydrant in the sky. Now I know that all UGA fans don’t feel the same as I do but I betcha there is more true gator haters than those dawg fans that will pull for your team. I admit your team appears to be very good and your QB is exceptional and you do own us at the present but you can believe one thing—this ole southern boy will again become a yankee lover if your team ends up in a bowl against a northern team. Why don’t you get off this blog and jump into the bog on Paynes Prairie.

We UGA fans don’t think its a birthright to beat Arkansas and other SEC teams every year but when you supposedly out recruit those teams (except Fla. and LSU) then we fans expect those players to out play their brethren on the other SEC teams. That’s only logical. While the games aren’t played on paper for sure you expect your players to be better because they were rated better by unbiased talent evaluators. This is why losing to South Carolina is unacceptable to me. It was the poor play calling and poor receivers that ultimately are to blame. Yes, we played another game and beat lowly Western Carolina and we have Bama next. Bill is right about not showing up for the 1st quarter against WC. Mr. Laid Back MR needs to get his team to play with fire and emotion. If they play laid back against Bama I know of a coach that should be laid off…

Why do the Auburn,Fla.,and Tech fans come here to the UGA blogs ? I’ve never been on there blogs and don’t care to go there period. Its a given that you only come here to disrespect the Dawgs. Try staying on your team’s blogs and leave the Dawgs blogs to Dawgs fans.

Bobo needs to let Stafford start throwing more quick slants to the receivers. Maybe if they catch a bunch of passes they won’t drop touchdowns any more. Did the Tift Co. Ga. top receiving recruit (Israel Troupe ?) choose to play with us instead of MLB baseball ? If so, put him in there. He can catch. So can MoMass if they would use him more.

UGA fans might want to drop in the Bryant Museum and understand what being a dominating powerhouse and true champion is really like.

UGA is above their head again after a weak win over the Catamounts, but who can forget who Steve Spurrier owned them again in a 16-9 victory just over 2 weeks ago.

UGA has a pitiful museum with alot of useless artifacts, including their only national championship trophy from 1980, the only one. Oh UGA loves to make up titles from 1942 and so forth, but you have to remind UGA that the Nielsen ratings are not valid for national titles.

Cannot wait for the Florida game, then the Gators will beat the absolute S#$# out of you guys.

Alabama 41 UGA 14, and the beat goes on.

By Mike Bobo 17 INT

September 19, 2007 8:58 AM | Link to this

JR, Stafford is overrated. All I hear is how great Matt Stafford is, and he is not posting the numbers.

There are so many other quarterbacks who are much better than Stafford, including Matt Ryan with BC, Brohm with Louisville and Andre Woodson with KY. Matter of fact Woodson set the SEC passing yards in 2006, so cut the #$#$ about Stafford being great.

UGA has not produced an quality QB since Tarkenton, and I will give you that one.

Stafford may improve some, but he is already in year 2, and is not putting up the numbers. Alabama will make Stafford see nothing but sky on Sat., count on it.

Alabama’s J.P. Wilson does not go by John or Parker but by his first and middle names together, and it has been that way all of his life. So for anyone to correctly address him they use his name as it is and if you read your own collums dip stick so does the ajc.
