Spurrier at USC: It’s not the same

As college football rivalries go, UGA vs. South Carolina has always been sort of one-sided when it comes to the fans.

Sure, it’s often a tough, close game (though the Dawgs have ruled the past five meetings). But it probably means more to the players (both teams having a lot of folks from the other side of the Savannah River) and coaches (who recruit each other’s states aggressively) than it does to most of the Bulldog Nation.

Even the addition of Steve Spurrier to the mix hasn’t really jacked up the Gamecocks into major rival status for most fans. Sure, we’ve loved beating him the past two years (especially last year’s shut-out) and want to keep on beating him. But it’s not quite the same as if he were still with the hated Gators and it was Jacksonville, now is it?

If the Prince of Darkness being on the South Carolina sideline hasn’t made this into a major rivalry, I doubt it ever will be.

Carolina folks key on this game all summer long, but UGA fans merely view it as the beginning of the SEC wars and usually the first challenge (though far from the biggest one) of the season. It’s no more important than any other game against an SEC East opponent.

Folks certainly get more excited about this game than, say, the Mississippi schools or Kentucky or Vandy (even taking into account last year’s stumble against the latter two). But it’s no UT. Or Auburn. And certainly not even remotely on the scale of Florida. Or even the nonconference insects from North Avenue. Or, for that matter, schools like Alabama and LSU that we don’t play every year. Heck, even Clemson, now just an occasional opponent, means more to the Bulldog Nation in terms of rivalry.

Like I said, we still hate Spurrier. But while still dangerous and at times brilliant and certainly capable of beating any team in the conference if he could get the talent, it’s not like when he was in the prime of his career and sneering at the rest of the world.

It’s Spurrier Lite.

I would not consider this game a victory just yet, I am a huge dawg fan but the gamecocks are always tough, they handed Richt his first loss as the uga coach, they beat the gators a couple years ago to send the dawgs to the dome for the 3rd time. And almost beat them last year as well. And they can play when they are motivated with just about anybody. so the dawgs better be ready because the cocks will be. GO DAWGS!!

Spurrier is still building a program that was left a mess when he took over from Lou Holtz. Anyone who follows football knows that it takes between 3 and 4 years to build back up. We’re in the third season…it’s the Gamecocks time. As long as Blaket Mitchell is able to be on the field and stays in control of the ball, I think Carolina’s offense (combined with Corey Boyd and Kenny Mckinkley (a Mableton kid) will be able to surpass Georgia’s defense. Not to mention the Brinkley brothers….watch out for those two, Dogs. On that note, watch out Georgia. In the words of Steve Spurrier “We aren’t settling for anything less than everything.” We are Carolina and we’re going to kick some butt. GO COCKS!!!!!

One more thing, why don’t Georgia fans spell dogs correctly? Dawgs just isn’t proper English and it makes us Georgians look like we don’t know anything.

Typical misguided Ga arrogance. The fact is if SC loses to GA they could still win the East, because we know they can beat Fla., Tenn. If Ga loses Saturday we all know they are out of the race because they are Florida’s b*tch and can lose to Kentucky and Vandy like last year. Get a grip on reality.

Yeah I have some questions Crowe. Who cares what you think? Why would you even read the Bulldog Blog since you obviously don’t care about the Dawgs? Don’t you have anything better to do with your time, like go to school? (I’m guessing middle school) Now back to the subject at hand. I agree that SC will probably never be the rival that Florida, Auburn, or Tennessee, but as we learned last year, all our SEC east rivals have to be taken seriously. If SC were to go on a run of beating us like Florida has, I guarantee they’ll work their way up the most hated list.

Bulldog Nation?? BWHAAAAHAAAA!!! THAT’S the REAL joke!!! It’s just a matter of time before Spurrier spanks UGA and sends you home like the whining puppies ya’ll are. It’s funny how each year, you guys fool yourselves into thinking you are a national power, when outside of the sticks in Athens, no one really cares OR even bothers to mention your name!! In fact, I think TECH might even beat ya’ll this year!! Again, BWHAHAHAAAA!!!

Sara @ 9:59 wrote: …why don’t Georgia fans spell dogs correctly? Dawgs just isn’t proper English…

“Dawgs” is an informal use of the word “dogs” similar to your using the word “cocks” instead of the more proper “gamecocks.” Another area example is Georgia Tech, often referred to as the “Ramblin’ Wreck”. Tech fans omit the “g” on “rambling” to provide a familiar, informal means of referring to their team. This in no way reflects poorly on the students, faculty, or alumni at the Georgia Institute of Technology. It’s simply a colloquial expression.

Your use of the word “kid” when referring to McKinley (I believe you wrote “Mckinley”) is similar in concept. In fact, the formal and proper definition of the word “kid” means “a young goat”. I’m guessing that you did not intend to describe this young man as “a young goat.”

But you have my curiosity aroused: Who is Blaket Mitchell?

Having grown up in Athens I am a huge Bulldawg fan. Georgia should handle the Gamecocks—however, I remember 1959 when GA only lost one game. You guessed it—to SC. Georgia was highly favored, but during the SC game everything went wrong and all GA could do was turn the ball over. So, if GA plays as they are capable they will win. However, if it is one of those days when nothing goes right they are in trouble.

South Carolina, preseason National Champions who disappear from UGA blogs the 2nd week of September. Hope you can at least have a moral victory like in years past unlike UGA where we don’t find anything comforting in a loss. You demand respect from other programs but what have you done that deserves respect? Been to multiple, respectable bowl games and won? Nope. Been to an SEC Championship game? Nope. Beaten UGA in recent memory? Nope. Represented the SEC well in beating Clemson CONSISTENTLY? Nope. By the way if you haven’t figured it out already, UGA can say YES to all the above…. GO DAWGS!!!!!

You Georgia fans would rather talk about how much you hate Spurrier and how “dominating” you are instead of breaking down the game that we will see played on Saturday. You guys need to head over to thestate.com and see some real sports news about football-not polls about the most hated football coach.

Oh yeah….I for one always look at this game as a huge Game. Both teams have to win this game. Anyone who says they don’t is kidding themselves. SC will bring a much better team, gameplan, and attitude to Athens with them. I think they will run right our o-line. It’s going to be intresting to see what Bobo comes up with off of game film for us. IT WILL BE A LOT TOUGHER GAME THAN OSU…ALOT. I have a feeling Stafford has a real big game though. It will be a good one. SC has some good ball players. Better get a man on McKinnley…he is a very good reciever. I bet SC runs the ball like he$$….uses playaction for big huge plays, but aims to keep Stafford off the field. However LIke I said I think Stafford wants and has a good game after the 3 INT’s he threw there last year. DAWGS prevail…27-17

I agree with Sara, it takes 3-4 years and this is year 3. It will be a close game but my boys in Garnet and Black will be the ones smiling on Saturday night. Oh, and if we lose, the SC/UGA is only one game….You egomaniac UGA people think you are the only game in town. Guess what - you’re not! Sounds like GloryGlory has some issues that he would need to see someone about. Who cares about the stolen G on your helmet or the entrance of the Cocks, which has similarities to Miami but is far from the same if you have ever been to both stadiums you would know. And what the hell where you were talking about with FSU’s garnet and gold? I am pretty sure that USC (yes the cocks) have had those colors for a very long time so that was not stolen if that was what you sere trying to get at… What really counts is the game. The Dogs (yes I spell it correctly) have won most games, there is nothing that can be said about that, but this has never been a W that is put on the UGA schedule before the game is over. It is a tough game and the Cocks are always ready to play. Remember Quincy back when you came into the season ranked #5 and we took it to the house? I bet that was the last year when there was a W on your schedule before the final gun sounded. I will say this, last week UGA was impressive and beat what many have called a sound team. Hard to tell how good OSU really is after one game just as it is hard to tell how the good the Cocks are after their pathetic performance over ULL. At that same time it is hard to tell just how good of a football team ULL really has because as everyone knows, especially Michigan, small teams can play. This game will not be a blowout by either side. I think that everyone would say that UGA will win, even I am leaning that way, but it wont be 18 - 0 again. More like 24-27 and who has which score is TBD. Oh - and who the hell let a Clemson fan post a comment? Isn’t anyone filtering this site? They are so happy about beating a flat FSU team but if ASU can beat Michigan I guess FSU can lose to anyone! GO COCKS!!

Bill once again you decide that you know it all in whether or not a game is important. I guess in Atlanta, the UGA-USC game may not seem that important but here in Augusta, things look a lot different. I can step outside my door and see the state of South Carolina. Here the game is huge in regards to bragging rights. Our metro area covers about 300,000 people in the state of SC. Another 300,000 in Georgia. Every year the Friday before the game, Augusta throws the Border-Bash party. Bands, fans, cheerleaders from both schools and plenty of adult beverages. We will have anywhere from 20,000 to 30,000 people at this event. So saying that this game is insignificant is an insult to our area. If you don’t believe me, bring your lard behind down here and see. I will even buy you a cold beverage.

Now go to the photographer and update that picture. Don’t forget the barber first.

There’s a lot of nonsense on this blog from fans on both sides. As a former SC turned GA resident (an alumni or diehard fan of neither) with football fan family in TN, AL, and FL, I agree that the South Carolina-Georgia rivalry is a bigger one for USC fans than UGA’s. UGA is the #2 rival to USC’s fans (after Clemson of course). USC is about the #4 or 5 rival to UGA’s fans (after UF, GTech, Auburn, maybe UT). However, it is definitely more of a rivalry than UGA vs. Alabama or LSU, though not always a bigger game (there’s a difference). USC fans also don’t consider UGA as big of rivals as many UGA fans want to believe or has been written in GA lately, other than for the SEC East and it (usually) being the 1st SEC game. Tennessee fans don’t really consider UGA a (special) rivalry at all, other than it being SEC East, and I’d say it isn’t a much bigger rivalry to UGA fans than USC other than in SEC East significance. Tennessee’s biggest rivals are by far Florida & Alabama (historically). Historically UGA was Florida’s biggest rival, but now they’re most UF fan’s #2 or possibly #3 rival following FSU and maybe UT.

I agree that the USC/UGA has been viewed as more important in USC fans’ eyes than in the eyes of UGA fans, but look at it’s significance last season. This game is really important because it sets the foundation for the remainder of the SEC East season. Forgive me for bring up “what ifs”, but the UGA win would have been extremely important last season had USC’s last-second field goal against UF not been blocked.

Instead of arguing over what the Gamecocks might never be or what the Bulldogs have done in the past, let’s talk about the fact that USC is rebuilding and UGA is reloading. That’s the reality of the current situation, and my hope is that we see a good game on Saturday. It is in the best interest of both teams for each of us to be ultimately successful-even though I hope my Gamecocks finally turn the corner this season.

Hey Cuz,…first, let me apologize for not calling you while I was at the game on Saturday. Somebody accidentally spilled Bourbon into my icey cold Coke. I didn’t realize it, until I was chewing on ice…Sorry!

Second,..I do agree that Georgia/Carolina is a territorial rivalry. Yes, I actually played Border Bash (opening for The Swingin’ Medallions)and it was packed out. With that being said, I don’t think that the intensity matches up to Tenn., Auburn, or Florida. The dawgs have been duking it out with the vols, tigers,& gators for the loooongest time. Even though I don’t have an actual date when Carolina joined the SEC,I know that it’s relatively recent(60’s-70’s?). That’s all it is, bro!..Don’t get offended! Remember, Bill is a reputable and loyal dawg fan. Let’s not get ill…..Dawgs-30 GymSocks-7

It is indeed Spurrier lite, just like it was Holtz lite before that. Recall Spurrier’s reputation at UF and Holtz’s reputation at Notre Dame before they arrived at SC.

Something happens at SC, and I’m not sure what. The stadium is large and usually rocking on game day, and the talent level in the state can hold its own with anybody’s, but it never seems to translate into conference championships. Also, recall that Spurrier lost a little bit of his mojo while he was still at Florida - 9 losses in his last three seasons is not bad by ordinary standards, but it was below the standards he set in the previous 9 years there. After the Redskins fiasco, I think he returned to the SEC a little humbled. He’s still a fine coach, but I think to some degree the game has passed him by.

There’ve been some good points made later in this blog, contrary to early on haha. The fan who wrote this article was right in his point that the UGA-SC rivalry is bigger in the eyes of S. Carolina fans than UGA fans, but in true diehard fan fashion he exaggerates that point in a way of belittling SC prior to the game. Florida, GTech, & Auburn are definitely bigger rivalries to UGA fans, and Tennessee is bigger in significance, but SC has come after those 3 or 4 in every poll or message board and the intensity I’ve seen. No way Alabama or LSU are bigger rivalries. To call UGA v. LSU or Alabama a rivalry would be to use the word so losely that every in-conference game is a rivalry. A good way to tell how big the rivalry is how much the fans on both sides (would) hate losing to that team…

I agree with CFan. The USC rivalry may not be as intense as the one with Auburn or UFla, but it is big, it is important, and it is all the more sweet, or horrible, with Spurrier as their coach. This week’s game will be tough. Both teams will be sky high, and I think it’s going to be close. And that makes for a good rivalry.

Spurrier at USC is not the same but it’s still Spurrier. We just have to beat him. I don’t care if he is coaching Podunk U. I don’t want to say I hate the man, but I wouldn’t want to have dinner with him either. I have no particular dislike for the Gamecocks either, but they are in the SEC East and therefor in our way, so they have to go down. I would love for a Georgia team to lay half a hundred on him just to pay him back for that ill fated Gaturd trip to Athens a few years back but I’ll be happy to win 3-0. The name of the game is to win your conference and this one counts for real. I have to think that CMR will have the boys ready. One of the main reasons Florida has had the Dawgs number for so long is team speed. I think CMR has realized this and made a concious effort to correct this fundamental problem. SPEED!!! and talent, that is what will have the C** ‘n Shoot firing blanks this Saturday.

USC was a founding member of the ACC in 1953, left in 1971, competed as an independent until 1983, then competed in the Metro conference until it joined the SEC in 1991.

That’s probably a little too much for a business major from Georgia to comprehend. I’m sure they give you guys the same exams that they give your basketball team. Learn up chump!

Tony, why don’t you get a grip on reality? South Carolina has an all time football record below .500. They are 4-11 against Georgia since entering the SEC. They have lost 5 in a row to Georgia. South Carolina’s athletic department lost 2.5 million dollars last year, while Georgia has the second most profitable athletic program in the nation making 23.9 million last year. We don’t give the Gamecocks respect because they haven’t done anything outside of going to the Outback Bowl.

By Simple Facts amongst the blah blah blah

September 6, 2007 5:18 PM | Link to this

44-12-2 46-37-4

UGA has a winning record against Florida, against SC, and has more SEC Championships than both combined. They’ve won more bowl games than both combined. They’ve won as many Consensus MNC’s and more total MNC’s than both COMBINED.

Spurrier was 1-3 vs Georgia as player He’s 0-2 vs Georgia as a coach for SC.

He was 11-1 vs Georgia when Ray Goff and Jim Donnan were head coach at UGA.

And none of it matters, the bottom line is that USC couldn’t beat UGA’s worst team of the Mark Richt era.

Dawgs win

And sure as the sun rises, tommorrow we’ll see more toolbag Florida, Tech, and Chicken fans posting on a UGA blog. Yet they are reading the AJC? From Georgia?

I guess they couldn’t find gainful employment in their respective home states…………….typical.

Chris, what are you smoking?

Gamecocks athletic dept did not lose 2.5 million dollars last year. SC would not have any college athletics if they did. That is the dumbest statement I have ever read. The football program itself made enough money to pay for the loses they incurred for all other sports.

The only profitable programs are men’s football and men’s basketball (very small profit). All the other athletic events lose money but the SC football program makes plenty of money to make up for the loss and walk away with a large profit. SC fans fill the seats EVERY football game and went to bowl. You do the math. You must be thinking about the TEMPLE athletic dept.

Okay, FruitBasket,as I was making a point of playing a team every year to build a rivalry (Tenn-1922, Fla.-1926, and Auburn-1892), Georgia didn’t start playing the GameClocks on a yearly basis until 1958. It amazes me how Carolina Fans are always going around thinking that their football program is very close to being comparable to UGA’s rich tradition.Let me give you a summary of Carolina’s Football program by mentioning the previous Coaches and thier waterloos. We will begin with “Pepsodent” Paul Dietzel who was hired in the late 60s and won a National Championship while at LSU with the Chinese Bandits in the late 50s. Paul was heralded as the coach that would put USC on the College map. He became AD at Carolina, He won Carolina’s only Football Championship in the ACC.He took them to their first bowl games in years and lost. He was instrumental on a nice Stadium Expansion complete with Astro turf in the ole Chicken coop. Pauls most sucessful season was a 7 win season. Then Paul got USC out of the ACC. A Big Mistake !! So Paul couldnt satisfy the Lamecock faithful and couldnt produce a winner. Next comes in “Darlin” Jim Carlen. Jim brought new hope to Carolina from Texas Tech. He came in and redisigned the ole chicken helmut by placing the block letter C along with the Chinese looking Fire Dragon Chicken. Jimmy handed Clemson its worse loss ever by a Carolina team and took Carolina to a bowl game and guess what? the chickens LOST. The lamecock faithful still beamed with pride for they had Visons of Grandeur and rightly so.Jimmy was also the AD and gave Carolina a 8 win season, its Most Ever at that time, beat UGA for the 2nd straight season and also beat Clemson. Carolina again went Bowling and again LOST. The Lamecocks boasted with pride and the following year Jimmmy Gave them a Heisman winner from a guy recruited in the state of GEORGIA ,Mr George Rogers. The lamecocks were on cloud nine as they rolled into the cow pasture at Clemson with 8 victories, bowl bound and a player that would win the Heisman Trophy (1980).Little did the Lamecock faithful know about the events that were about to unfold would have a lingering effect for many years to come. The Tigers had a losing season that year and suprised the chickens by donning the infamous Orange Pants. The heavily favored chickens were entertained to an ole butt kickin by the tigers. The lamecock faithful couldnt understand how they lost to Uga, and claimed they should have won that game when it was played a few weeks earlier, then losing to the tigers the way they did. They Lamechickens again went bowling and again LOST.Behind the scenes ole Jimmy was sqaubbling with then USC President James Holderman about the enormous athletic dept. bank account.Donations were at record highs and Holderman wanted the money to entertain the heads of states and vips and guys yes guys. Holderman was later fired and served time for his misdeeds.Jimmy C on the other hand was allegedly having an affair with a Lamecock cheerleader and the ladys basketball coach was having a lesbian affair. The Atheltic program was unravelling. Poor ole Jimmys last straw was LOSING to little Paciffic University in 1981 and the powers that be had had enough. Carlin Darlin was shown the door.So Richard (DUMB) Bell was promoted to Head Coach of the lamecocks. Poor poor Little Richard he lost to Furman and AD Marcum told Richard to replace his assistant coaches. DumB Bell refused and thus was shown the door. The Program was in gloom and in disparity. Next there was a glimmer of hope on the horizion, the hiring of the man in Black “Smokin JOE MORRISON”. It was the dawning of Black Magic and a entrance of the 2001 Space Odessy Theme song for the lamecocks.SMOKIN JOE gave the chickens hope and in his second season at the helm the lamecocks surged to a # 2 rankining. THE Chickens went to Anapolis to play NAVY . All the chickens had to do was beat Navy and they would be #1 a piece of cake . They had already beaten UGA, FSU, Notre Dame just to mention a few and all they had to do was to beat little ole NAVY. Guess what! THE CHICKENS LOST BIG TIME. out the door went the orange bowl invitation and National Tittle hopes.Well the chickens went on to beat Clemson and went Bowling. Looking still for their first bowl win in their mediocrity history of football against OKLAHOMA STATE. Guess What? The lamechickens LOST! Well Smokin Joe had a couple of 8 win seasons for the chickens went to two bowls again and guess What? yep LOST again. Unfortunately Joe passed away while he was still at USC. Next Sparky(Spooky) Woods from App. State yes App. State Division II. Carolina couldnt get the big Time coach so they had to settle with Sparky. Poor ole Sparky He teased The Lamecock faithful in his first year we he came to Athens and Beat first year coach Ray Goof.Poor ole Spooky Didnt Last, he had a player revolt and thus his waterloo was losing to the Citadel a division II School. Spooky was shown the door. Next the Saviour Of CAROLINA Football a FSU Assistant Brad “FATBOY” Scott. Brad was a breath of fresh air in the lamecock program and was determined to breathe life into the team of mediocrity. Brad gave the chickens a 6 -5 regular season record while beating LSU along the way and a bowl berth. Guess WHAT ? NO THE CHICKENS WON THEIR FIRST BOWL GAME!!! BUT Barely against WVU. But Fat Boy Brad Couldnt get it going at Carolina he lost to Clemson big one year and the next year I think he went 1-10. BRAD was shown the door and guess what? He went to CLEMSON… OUCH which he is still their today. Next the Second Saviour of Carolina Football LOU(Granny Clampet) Holtz. The Lamecocks were really Crowing BIG TIME. they printed up T shirts that proudly stated “GOT LOU WE DO”. Ole Lou went 0-11 in his first year and it was so gloomy and dark around Columbia. But Lou got it going, beat UGA twice and went bowling. His best records were 8-4,9-3. Guess what? he won both bowl games, beat Ohio State twice inwhich the following year OSU was National Championship. The Chickens were on high on the hog but back to back 5-7 seasons occurred. Lamecocks were still delusional the next year LOU Rolled into Clemson with a 6-4 record and a possible bowl bid. Guess What? Clemson won the game handidly but a brawl broke out and the chickens might have won the fight. But guess what? no bowl for either teams decicded by their powers that be at the universities. So poor ole LOU decicded he couldnt win an SEC Championship and heads back to ESPN . Next Steve Spurrier. Poor ole Steve couldnt hack it in the NFL after leaving his beloved Fla. gators . So now Steve has deciced to get away from football altogether and play golf so he now has a job at USC and the saga continues. You know I feel your pain Gamecock fans. How you have handled what you’ve been through I hope I never have to learn!!!!!GO DAWGS

general, ithink the game will be close.i have read where sos is really working on his run defense this week.they gave up too many yards last week on the ground.i think he will have a lot of guys in the box to counter the running game and the screen passes.i look for a blitz from time to time to keep stafford from just standing in the pocket and throwing.usc has more speed on d than osu,so we may not have the yardage after the catch that we had against osu.we have averaged 200 yds on the ground against usc the pst few games and sos knows he can,t afford that.keys to the game-1-running game,if we get big yardage on the ground it’s over for them-2-protecting stafford,if he has time to set his feet and find his recievers usc is in for a long day-3-stopping the run,if we stop the run thay can’t control the ball, and they don’t want a shoot-out with us.-4-mistakes,we have to continue to keep penalties, interceptions, and fumbles at a minimum.

I have noticed that most of the posts by USC fans say “We will win, Cocks rule.” I have not heard any reasons or facts that back up their opinions and fantasies.

Just in case you missed this bulletin board material from Dustin Lindsey:

“I think it’s our year,” Lindsey said. “I think we’ve got a better team than them. … I feel great, ready to get back out there and whip some Georgia butt.”

That’s that, I guess. Chicken butt.

Why does everybody hate UGA. I thought it was just us Tech people. When UGA bashing starts, everybody piles on. I wonder why ? I can see why the Dawgs have their squad of full-time professional paid bloggers to counteract the shots they have to take. But I guess when you haven’t won a nat champioship during the post-war era you’re not very legitimate.

I am just trying to figure out what is the most appropriate breakfast food for tailgating tomorrow morning:
chicken biscuits because we’re playing the chickens or sausage biscuits because we’re playing the cocks?
Can anyone help me? Thanks a bunch.

My name is Bill King. I bought this goofy looking UGA shirt at WalMart. It wasn’t even on sale.

Hey Dawg fans. Who saw that article that said “King will suit up Saturday”? Don’t worry, that’s not your buddy ole’ Bill they are talking about. That’s Caleb King who will suit up….

Hey speaking of suits. I don’t own one. I’m thinking about it. What I do have is a sharp looking pair of kahkis and a navy sports coat. Man I sport that look to wedding and stuff.

After all, Nothing says “Go Dawgs” and “Fine dining for us UGA fans is IHOP” like a snazzy dress coat set off by a thick UGA tie.

Enjoy the game this weekend. Go Dawgs.

Yours,

Bill

I am way past the stage in my life where I can find the time or the purpose to ‘hate’ the opposistion in the game. Hate for the enemy has been replaced by respect for them all. As Reality Check mentioned, Alabama is UT’s biggest rival. All other games have series records, head to head with coaches, SEC significance, state boundries, etc, etc…From Louisiana to South Carolina, Florida to Kentucky and all things SEC, I’m thankful to have been born to a region where football is revered. But the hate thing is past. Doesn’t mean I won’t make fun of them, though. I’m a Vol. Period. End of story…

South Carolina fans sure do like to chirp. Typically the biggest talkers are the most worried. Gamecock fans need to accept the fact that they are, have been, and always will be an SEC punching bag, that has never won anything. You are a perennial afterthought, that resides in the most disgusting city, in the most disgusting state in the union. Your stadium is in an industrial park for god sakes. The only decent thing about the entire state is about 10 blocks in Charleston, and some golf courses in Myrtle Beach. Other than that, it is the worst state in the country, absolutely vile!

General, man I’m with you. I don’t know how old you are, but I’m 43 and been thru a helluva lot in thosw 43 years. I wish all other fans on here were like you, GTDC and War. I guess this time of year brings out any a*******hole with a computer. There are some very valid and lucid points on here but a lot of stuff just to pi$$ people off as well. Don’t get me wrong, I CAN be just as much an a*******hole as the next person, but I choose not to. Outright hate takes alot of energy. If you guys want to have that, then go with it, I’ve definitely been there. I’m still trying to forgive a semi-truck driver that took my 15 year old son’s legs away from him in a very nasty wreck. I only say this to tell u guys to chill the f$ck out. I love college football as much as anyone on here, but there comes a time when u have to chose when u need to be evil to something. This time of year is the absolute best for me. It takes my mind off of alot of other things. Now, before u Dr. Phil bloggers come out of the woodwork, I only post this for my fellow dawgs, and I’m not asking for anything. I took my son up to G-day 2 years ago and he met a ton of DAWGS. They were all inspired by his huge smile and his disposition. He’s not a quitter, and neither are the Bulldogs. Mark Richt and Co sent him tons of signed footballs and posters when he was in Children’s Hospital. I know they do that for a lot of kids, but this was my kid, and he’s a huge GA fan, like me. I have nothing but love for this team, this coach, and this University. A lot of u folks out there have been through tragedy, much more than mine, and you know you still have to trudge on. For you guys that haven’t, I hope u never have to. My son is an inspiration to me, never missin a beat. Be careful with what you have. Cherish it, cause u never know when it’s gonna be gone. Dam, now I sound like Dr Phil. Keep it up guys, we play Spurrier on Saturday!!! GO DAWGS!!!

Rivalry? Give me a break, if this isn’t a rivalry I don’t know what is. If we opened every year with Miss. St., KY, Vandy or others it wouldn’t be. SOS is working hard to get his type of players. His well known dislike of anything Dawg and his proven game day coaching makes this a very dangerous way to start our SEC play. CMR has been smart enough to down play the game while SOS hollers about it year round. Notice how his draft class was picked as one of the best in the country. This game tomorrow is very important for him and his program. Don’t forget it was the “Visor” that put us in Atlanta by up setting the Reptiles. 3 in a row, I wonder if any team has ever done that to him? Anybody know? For the Dawgs to have one of those magical years and reach the top, we MUST BEAT SOS.

Buck thanks for backing me up. Well you have to go to the front of the blog to realize that you backed me up but that is okay.

Husk, Dude you brought tears to my eyes. As a father of a disabled child at birth, and nothing I can do to fix it, I may not feel “your” pain. But I dang sure can understand it. I leave with my daughter Baylie for the Mayo Clinic in MN for the ninth time next weekend. Plenty more to come.

General, you know that I would “Volunteer” to enlist as a high private in your army. I have, and always will, got your back. You too War if you are out there.

Buck, yeah I know Dark visor hates us and wants to win more than a 10:00 am tee time at the Augusta National. I can get him the tee time. I can’t get him a win in Athens. Yep, I will be there with my other 90,000 friends and 3,000 soon to be deep fried yard-birds.

Cuz and Gen, thanks for the kind words. I didn’t post that for pity, but for some of the idiots on here who obviously don’t have anything else on their mind except hating another team. Man, I bet some of us on here WISH that’s all we had to deal with. For some of us, this is the time of year when we can get temporarily distracted from some things. We can hoop and holler and throw things, get mad at our team and the other team, then, either celebrate or sulk. Still, have to walk into work Mon morning with your chest out….or your head down. Junkyard, maybe you and your bulldoggy dogs should have looked at the game vs. South Carolina as a Florida-like game and took them a little more seriously. If the doggy dogs would have done that, maybe they would have put more effort into the game. Though it wasn’t a blowout game, in the end THE DOGGY DOGS LOST!!!!!! You mean to tell me the big bad doggy dogs couldn’t put up 17 points to outdo BLAKE MITCHELL and his Gamecocks? More than likely, your team was arrogant as always and didn’t think that they’d have to put much of an effort against South Carolina. It’s mighty funny how a team can be so arrogant but have nothing to show for it but have a couple of SEC Championships under their collar. Face it doggy dogs, dig a hole between the hedges and bury any hope of a national championship along with those bones ya’ll are sucking on as you have to do year after year! I’m laughing straight to the Championship. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!

Hey Bill, now that the Gamecocks have won does that make it more of a rivalry?

By robdawg06

September 9, 2007 11:54 AM | Link to this

The difference in the game was the two dropped td passes by UGA receivers and the play calling in the red zone by Mike Bobo. They went down the field mixing the pass with heavy running by Moreno then did nothing but try passes in the red zone. We win if Moreno gets 3 handoffs in the red zone from the 10 yard line. But these receivers are killing us every year. I knew we were in trouble when Coutu missed that opening drive field goal attempt. I don’t mind getting beat by 14 or 20 points because you know the other team is better. But to lose by 4 points and have those dropped tds really hurts the soul.

Plus I read Sean Bailey’s remarks on Yahoo’s sports recap of the game about “The Dawgs didn’t show up to play”. I got news for Bailey and the other receivers, the rest of the team showed up and played pretty well. If the receivers would have showed up in the red zone then the Dawgs would have won. I didn’t see any comments from Richt…

The Dawgs are still a top-twenty team in my book and will compete for the SEC East. Florida is the heavy favorite against all of us. Tennessee isn’t so great, but still may surprise. Kentucky isn’t a team to sneeze at. Good luck the rest of the season.
