Another Saturday in Athens!

We’re spending some time in the Classic City this week while on spring break to see my folks and my son the UGA senior, visit some of our favorite hangouts (like Hodgson’s), and, of course, attend G-Day.

G-Day isn’t quite the big thing it was when I was a kid and they played it more like a real game, with celebrity head coaches (winning team ate steaks for dinner, losers got hot dogs). Nowadays, it’s more like a semi-controlled scrimmage.

And it’s been a while since they tried something fun like playing against the alums. (Remember Kent Lawrence sneaking on the field from the sideline to catch a long pass?) I think that approach was pretty much doomed after the alums put a few extra men on the field and injured the QB in a sack.

But, hey, any day you get to sit in Sanford Stadium and watch guys wearing UGA uniforms playing football is a good day, even if they don’t return kicks and the refs whistle the play dead whenever a defender gets within 5 yards of a quarterback.

The best thing about G-Day is getting an early look at what kind of team the Dogs will field this season, and with that in mind these are some of the things I’ll be watching on Saturday:

THE PASSING GAME: Now that quarterback is settled, with established starter Matthew Stafford getting better and better and Joe Cox a more than able backup, the key question here will be protection. With the Dogs having to replace three starters on the offensive line as well as the tight end, Stafford might end up having to scramble a bit more than the coaches would like (though you get the feeling he’d LOVE to take off rambling with the ball). As for the receivers, we’ve had the talent all along, but over the past couple of seasons they’ve just dropped the ball too much. Getting Sean Bailey back will be a big help if he picks up where he left off at the end of the 2005 season. It took him a while to stop dropping the ball himself that season, though, so that’s something to watch. I think Mikey Henderson will show he’s more than just a kick returner, too.

THE RUNNING GAME: If everything we’ve heard about Knowshon Moreno’s potential pans out, Georgia should be even stronger at the tailback position, despite the loss of Danny Ware. Moreno apparently will give us the breakaway long-run threat we haven’t had in a while. Leading rusher Kregg Lumpkin is back at full-strength and a steady producer. (When they give him the ball, that is. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that new offensive coordinator Mike Bobo won’t be as quick to abandon the run as his boss was at times last season.) Hopefully, Thomas Brown will bounce back quickly from his injury this fall (I doubt we’ll see him Saturday), though I still don’t think it makes sense to run him up the middle. Better to use him on the outside or throw it to him out of the backfield. We have one of the conference’s best fullbacks in Brannan Southerland and should continue to make heavy use of him.

THE BLOCKING: The key question again in the effectiveness of our running tame is the offensive line. And despite our bringing in lots of beef to bolster it, there’s always the likelihood that between injuries and disciplinary problems, we’ll still be thin as tissue paper there. Hopefully, though, new OL coach Stacy Searels’ simplified schemes will speed up the maturing process for our young linemen.

THE DEFENSE: Again, we’re replacing a lot of experience up front and in the middle. Of course, that experience didn’t always pay off last year, as our D was maddeningly inconsistent, looking great at the beginning and end of the season but absolutely terrible during the mid-season collapse. It’ll help a lot if Brandon Miller can finally live up to his billing. Ditto all those redshirts. We should be in good shape in the secondary, but we’re green at defensive end and really need to develop an effective pass rush fast.

THE KICKING GAME: Let’s just pray that Brandon Coutu stays healthy. It’ll be interesting to see whether holdover Brian Mimbs (hero of the bowl-game onside kick) or incoming freshman (and Bulldog legacy) Drew Butler winds up as the starting punter. I just hope we don’t give them reason to flinch like Gordon Ely-Kelso did the latter half of last season after we gave up those blocked punts. As for returning punts, if they follow the usual practice of recent G-Days we won’t see that on Saturday, but I can’t wait to have Mikey Henderson back on the field waiting on a punt! Plus we’ll have Thomas Flowers back.

I’m hoping Saturday’s game shows progress in all those areas. We’ll see the No. 1 offense and No. 2 defense on one team and the No. 1 defense and No. 2 offense on the other. C’mon out and join us at the game!

Through Friday, tickets can be purchased in person at the Butts-Mehre ticket windows between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tickets also can be purchased starting at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Sanford Stadium Gates 2, 4, 6 and the Main Gate located below the Sanford Drive Bridge. Proceeds from the game will benefit Hope Haven. If you can’t be there but have the CSS channel, you can catch it on TV.

I’m planning on being there. I missed last years G-Day but had made the previous two. I fun to get an inside look at the passing, running blocking & coverage. It will show what’s in store for the Fall! GO DAWGS!!!

It’s been several years since I’ve been to G-Day. What are the crowds like now? I’m trying to figure out of traffic will be heavy, if I’ll have to hunt for parking, and if it’ll take a while to get through the gates or if it won’t be that bad.

Well, Mr. Journalism Professor ChrisD, Bill is a fan you see. He is not a journalism professional who would realize he must explain to ignorant @$$holes such as yourself that G-Day is the spring football game for the University of Georgia. Happy to educate you and send a little sunshine your way there, buddy.

I look forward to G-Day with quivering anticipation. My favorite part is after the game when all of those sweaty young studs take off their pads and jerseys and stand around posing in their ripped up muscle shirts, sweat glistening in the hot April sun. Sometimes I get to get up close and give a firm squeeze to some young linebackers chiseled bicep, as I make a witty comment about the weather. When security finally escorts me from the stadium, I go back to my SUV, drink a case of PBR and chase trim all over the parking lot.

Hey Bill, it’s me your old friend Ted, why 2 weeks between articles? I thought you got fired or something for your comment on the last blog. I was starting to wonder. any ways, I thought I’d ask you a question is the end of this sentence supposed to be tame or game? “The key question again in the effectiveness of our running tame”? I understand that the “g” and the “t” are rightnext to each other, and that one of your sausage fingers may have accidently tapped the t on mistake, but good god, atleast take the time to do spell check, or are you to lazy to do that? Take some pride in your work, moron. Since you’re on spring break, are we going to see you on “fat men in red shirts gone wild”?

Does anyone know if they plan to fix the crappy concession stand food this year? The food is horrible (the worst of all SEC stadiums i have visited) and costs the most.

Also, CMR is settling into a 8 or 9 win a year pattern just like Donnan now. Someone remind him that we fired Donnan for less than CMR pulled last year (though i suspect that wasn’t his fault, it was the players that QUIT on stafford because they thought there was an I in team).

Also, we will never catch Florida in Basketball as long as Dennis Felton is coaching at UGA. Billy Donavan is 5times the coach felton is.

All of this is my opinion, but i am a donor just like the next so, i deserve air it.

Can’t wait for G-Day. For those asking about Caleb, from what I heard he is doing well enough in school that he might not have to take the test over again. He is on track. He has signed up for the test for a couple of times just in case. Troupe said that it is a 85% chance that he will be a Dawg. Said he would have to be drafted really high for him to give up his dream of playing for UGA. He will be in attendance at G-Day. Don’t know about Caleb but I’m guessing he will be there too. Everyone show up and show the 2007 recruits that we love and support our football team. Go Dawgs

Boy, this blog degenerated in a hurry. Lets have some good posts. TE is a good place to start. Is Tripp Chandler the one? some opinions please. Bill if we end up paper thin on the “OL” then we’ll know the Football Gods are mad at the Dawgs about something. True freshman Stirdivant(bad sp) because of light injuries and the coaches not wanting to rush things, has had a chance to shine and he has. Left Tackle is the most important position on the “OL” and he’ll be ready to play.

Bubba did some research on a lot of your guys boy sean bailey. guess what Bubba found out. sean bailey only caught 16 balls his jr year. all of you idiots believe this overblown guy is still the man. BUBBA KNOWS THESE ARE PITIFUL NUMBERS.

As for the direction of the athletic program as a whole Bubba sees a mixed bag. Bubba believes that president adams should take over the athletic department again. prince vinces boy is over his head just like the prince was himself. prince vince didnt want to fire donnan because he was to busy chasing a dollar instead of taking care of the universitys needs at football. adams saw mediocrity and got rid of it along with prince vince. Bubba believes that all the criticism that president adams has received has prevented him firing that loser of a coach we have in basketball the whining foot stomping dennis felton. Bubba has a problem with any man that picks out his wifes clothes. Bubba believes that a woman should pick her own clothes. Bubba pleads with president adams to take back the athletic department from that incompentent ad we currently have. Bubba is tired of winning championships in them sissy sports. its time to win a national championship in a real sport such as football. Bubba knows because he has been there and done it.

Of course it’s a Gaturd poesing on our blog. His crappy education at FU (sounds better than UF… just say it, you’ll see what I mean) didn’t teach him that for something to have a “pattern,” it must happen more than once, and quite frequently, more than twice. As for any Dawg on here saying that they’re worried about Richt becoming Donnan… if anyone who’s a real Dawg fan and not a poeser says that, let me be the first to slap you upside the head. While Richt has done some questionable things in the past (the clock), he’s also won the first 3 SEC East Divisions in the school’s history and he’s won the only 2 SEC Championships since 1983, and the school’s first Sugar Bowl since 1980. Think about that, losers. He also admitted his mistakes last year when he finally saw (being the last to do so, unfortunately) that Joe T III wasn’t getting it done and realized that Matt was the future, and the future had to happen now. If he doesn’t admit that mistake (and many coaches will refuse to admit those kind of mistakes… remember the Major Applewhite / Chris Simms debacle?), then we don’t beat Auburn, we don’t beat the Bugs, and we don’t make a decent bowl and beat the crap out of the 14th ranked team in the country in an amazing comeback. He also realized (and it didn’t take him as long as it took his mentor Slick Bobby to realize this) that he needs to be a head coach, not an offensive coordinator. Now, just like when Bobby gave up play calling duties in Talahassee to a young Mark Richt, our offense is about to take off in the capable hands of Coach Mike Bobo, and Richt will be able to concentrate on all facets of this team, thus insuring that Coach Willie Martinez no longer falls in love with the two deep zone to the detriment of the team again. Coach Richt can keep his fingers in all of the pies. Maybe he can be like Beamer, and take an interest in Special Teams, because we used to have the best in the SEC, not so good last year (besides the kicking problems, the return problems with running and blocking upfield). Also, as a true head coach, maybe Coach Richt can finally see just how horrible a coach John Eason is and can $hitcan his butt if the wide recievers continue to underperform.

So, this year I am expecting big things. But, we’re a year away from another SEC Championship and competing for a Mythical National Championship. I mean, we could wind up winning the SEC this year with one loss, but I see (and it pains me to say this) Tennessee, which always seems to have great wideouts to replace great wideouts (wish we could get those guys), as the SEC Champion and eventual Mythical National Champion. Yes. Tennessee. Eric Ainge is the best QB in the SEC. And Florida is going to nosedive with the most overrated QB in the SEC getting his brains bashed in by SEC linebackers as well as having their whole defense being drafted into the NFL. I see us finishing 2nd in the East, losing one game (to Tennessee), but still going to the Sugar Bowl because Tenn will be in the Mythical National Championship Game. We’ll play either Texas / Oklahoma or West Virginia / Rutgers / Louisville or Ohio State / Michigan in the Sugar Bowl. And we’ll win. Tennessee beats either another overrated Ohio State / Michigan team (from the supremely overrated Big 11) in the Mythical National Championship Game. Oh yeah, Spurrior’s team, the Lamecocks, are going to finish 3rd in the East with 2 losses and play in the Peach Bowl. The Gaturds are going to lose to Tenn, to LSU, and to us and finish 4th and play in the Music City. Kentucky finishes 5th, but makes the Liberty Bowl with another 8 wins. LSU will play in the Capital One Bowl as the loser of the SEC Championship. Auburn, with two losses, finishes second in the West and plays the Outback. Arkansas plays the Cotton Bowl finishing 3rd in the West. Ole’ Miss finishes 4th in the league and plays the Independance Bowl.

Alabamy, Missy St, and Vandy are left out as the SEC sends 9 teams to bowls. If Bammy can get to 6 wins, we might be able to send 10 teams, which would be freaking awesome. But that’s how I see it playing out. I’ll list the records and bowl games, but not if they’ll win or lose they’re bowl, so it’ll be either 13 or 12 games played.

  1. Tennessee 13 - 0 (wins SEC) (BCS NC)

  2. Georgia 11 - 1 (BCS Sugar or Rose)

  3. LSU 11 - 2 (loses SEC) (Capitol One)

  4. Auburn 10 - 2 (Outback)

  5. South Carolina 10 - 2 (Peach)

  6. Arkansas 9 - 3 (Cotton)

  7. Florida 9 - 3 (Music City)

  8. Kentucky 8 - 4 (Liberty)

  9. Ole’ Miss 7 - 5 (Independence)

  10. Alabama 5 - 7 or 6 - 6 (possible Hawaii)

  11. Vanderbilt 5 - 7

  12. Mississippi State 5 - 7

Take it to the bank, because that’s how it’s going to end up. Call me Kreskin.

It’s a tough question, but I have to go with 2. 2 obviously put thought into the needed revisions, yet (s)he still made countless mistakes and even added one or two. Please go easy on this person. (S)he is probably a Tech grad/student and has never taken an English class that was taught by someone who knows the language. Besides, with Dungeons & Dragons to play, who has time to study? For any Tech fans on this site, please remember two things: (1) don’t critique our education if you don’t have a basic understanding of the English language and (2) stop impersonating Gator fans just to have something to say on this site.

My least favorite team in the SEC is Auburn.

I went to a game, at Jordan Hare, and came back extremely impressed.

Look, even though we pull for different teams, we reside close to one onother.

If not, we aspire to relativley the same stuff.

Lay off and show some class. Class is the ability to remain ones composure, even under pressure. Understand the frickin’ relativity.

Can’t wait til the season starts. Fans will see alot of new faces on defense and offense this year. We have depth on the o line and Dline. There are some players that we will be saying man how did they redshirt last year???? Names like Tony Wilson, Anderson , Geno Atkins, R.Jones , Crawford, and we have all already heard about Monroe… any way I just can’t wait to see the Okies in Athens , I think that will be a good game the OKie have a pretty QB and the are returning alot off players on Offense and Defense…. Well for now ..It’s Great to be a Georgia Bulldog….

May as well jump in. I don’t think DE is the guy to be the Dawg AD. I know VD was training him to take over and I think that was a mistake. IMO, if Adams could get control of the FB team he would in a second but he can’t and that’s a big burr under his saddle. As long as we have the situation on the Board of Regents, we’ll have Adams. I can say this because I didn’t have a dog in the Dooley vs. Adams fight. I believe that any hope Adams had went out the window when CMR finally decided to become the HC. IMO, the difference is already showing in the Spring practice. From everything I hear and read, the attitude of the whole team is better than it’s been since he;s been in Athens………Bubba, I don’t disagree about Bailey but so far he doing the job according to our QB but the question will remain will he do it when “for real” time comes around. We don’t know what our receivers are going to do in the fall and that’s one reason I say that some of our true freshmen who can catch the ball will play. It’ll take a real effort to be as bad as last year and I do wonder about the receiver coach. Is he doing the job. With CMR being all over the field, that’ll be a big help in all departments.

Bubba finds it entertaining that gamecockgary would tresspass onto bulldawg territory. Bubba just bought a brand new 20 gauge shotgun and he would like to use it on a chicken because that is one thing Bubba has never shot. Bubba as a child once hung a chicken. Bubba watched with great amusement as that chicken fought for its life flappin them wings and kickin them legs. Bubba showed it no remorse much like what the dawgs will do sept the 8th. Bubba, these people hug everything! PAC-10, with out saying how much I dislike the Reptiles, I just wear my Dawg hat that says SEC on the side and that’s all I have to do. They get real quiet in a hurry. Last season I was catching it when the Dawgs were having trouble but when CMR got serious and stayed with Stafford and we started winning, darn if they didn’t get quiet again. If I can ever figure out how to say it and not use to much space, I wish every member of the “Dawg Nation” could have been with me and watched what happened the day we played AU. They don’t have much to say to an SEC guy now. Almost half of a great sports bar got so quite when Matthew hit that 1st long pass you want have sworn you were at a wake. AU fans couldn’t take it and move to the other side of the room so we just had to go by their table on the way to the boys room.

But here’s the thing Ted the Bug. Unlike Yech, we actually have people who care about our team and enjoy giving lots of money to our school because of that. See, I can understand how that would be a bur under your saddle considering how y’all downsized your embarassment of a football stadium and still can’t sell it out, while in Athens we have to beat people away with sticks. Go sulk on your pathetic boards where you try and remember the last time y’all beat us without cheating. Try 17 years ago. Hey, at least we’ve beaten Florida twice since then. War Eagle, as you are an AU graduate I know that means your powers of observation are non existant, so I guess I’ll have to break it down for you.

If Tennessee is going to go undefeated and Georgia is only going to have one loss (according to my predictions), then the team that will beat the Dawgs this year won’t have a single A in the school’s name. If you need me to explain it anymore for you, I’ll call up my friend the Bammy graduate to help you out. Hah!

Fuggedabout it. All you Gator fans, hey you got something to scream about, no doubt. Gamecocks, you have something to prove with a brutal schedule. If anyone has not noticed yet, we are all tied right now. We are all 0 and 0. Welcome to a new season. There will be highs, there will be lows. Who wins the NC, dont care and I have said it here so many times I sound like rainman. Oh and I am a very good driver. Win the SEC, that is what I want for the Dawgs every year. Win it and let the rest take care of itself.

Florida, South Carolina and all the rest, bring it on. We all play in the greatest football conference ever. I live and breathe SEC football with a preference for the Dawgs, but I will watch any other televised SEC game because you know you will get the real deal. I look forward to my Dawgs and the rest of you playing on a Autumn Saturday.

Roll me one of those you’re smoking…Obviously, it should be I singing the praises of the Vols this coming fall, but I shall remain reserved for now. Ainge had knee surgery ( meniscus ). Took most the spring off. Fulmer worked the no huddle offense and peered into a 3-4. That D may be seen around the SEC on special occasions this season. I must say I hope we don’t find ourselves depending on a place kicker to save many Saturdays a-coming. That may be another UT achilles heel…Coutu is my early pick for UGA MVP…UT’s punter has the makings of ALL-SEC or better.. I’m hoping we’re ranked 15th or lower in the preseason polls. Thxs for the vote of confidence. Personally, I hope you’re on the money, but as Cuz says, we is all 0-0…

General, in one word, and we know I am wordy, NO. SEC has to have an unbeaten team with the others one to two losses. Not this year for the SEC and the beauty contest. Have you ever noticed they alternate years with Southern Cal and Ohio State winning Miss Congeniality. Come play in our conference. You will see how we destroy ourselves and keep us out of the NC.

I really mean seriously, what does the NC mean. It appears to be totally out of an input by the SEC, sure except for last year. I am a Dawg and Auburn was robbed and all of us in the SEC know it. Heck they made LSU split it.

Put the top other school and the SEC champ, odds are the SEC kicks rear.

“Another Saturday in Athens”… God what a projectile vomit inducing prospect! The only possible explanation for you Bubbas and Eunices think that town is so impressive is that you arrived there from the turnip patch. I can’t believe you actually call it “the Classic City”. Granted, there is the tree which owns itself and the double barrel cannon, which you apparently view as global wonders on par with the Great Wall of China and the Eiffel Tower. There is the collection of rockabilly dump bars filled with drunken country louts and skanky sex obsessed cornball coeds bent on looking like Route 66 hookers. They used to dress in “Dawg” cheerleader outfits at age 5 and shout “Go Dawgs!” like flirting little trailer trash backwoods Daisy Dukes already exaggerating their ignorantly perceived gender roles. There is that dump mall with the J.C. Penney and the all the little shops selling “Dawg” crap (be sure to misspell it to match the depraved ‘Deliverance’ and ‘Tobacco Road’ redneck accents. Another Saturday in Athens? I think I’ll pass.

Wow, someone from Cowtown is calling US bubbas? Dude, how ‘bout you get a little perspecive in your life? Are you jealous that we have the fifth largest on-campus stadium in the SEC that sits almost 10,000 more people than y’all’s erector set stadium? That our stadium is one of the most picturesque in the country because every edition was blended and made to look like it was always there, unlike at Allbarn, Florida, Tennessee, and many others? Are you jealous that we have more conference titles than you, and that our coach has more than your coach, who falsely proclaims himself as the best coach in the SEC? Are you still mad because your team choked against LSU and got whupped by us when we were unranked and y’all were No. 4? Think about it. Y’all got whupped by a true freshman QB and a team that was in turmoil, losing to Vandy AND Kentucky in the same year. And y’all had a team that was supposed to win it all. We knew we were going to rebuild, that we were in for a rough year (especially with Joe T III lining up behind center). And then two years ago y’all go out lay an egg in your bowl game, bringing down the whole SEC by losing to a crappy Big 11 team., and barely scrape by this past year in just beating a crappy Big XII team. Dude… y’all have enough problems over at Cowtown without having to dump on UGA and Athens. Your coach is overrated, but somehow thinks he’s awesome. He’s about to lose his division yet again to the luckiest (and one of the worst) coach in the SEC, Les Miles, because he’s a choker. And yeah, there is a DISTINCT possibility that y’all could lose to a crappy Bammy team this year because that’s all Nick Saban will be gearing his team for. And Nick Saban is three times the coach that Tubbyville is. Oh yes, Brian from Cowtown (Allbarn), you have issues of your own to worry about. We own our state. There’s not a coach they could bring into Tech that’s going to a) beat us, or b) beat us more than once every 5 years or so. But Bammy just got a coach who can whup up on Tubbyville many times in a row. Look for Tubbyville to take the first train out of Cowtown in a few years, either because he wants to, or because Big Money Bobby decides he has to go.

Brian from Cowtown. Get a life.

On Israel Troupe: The baseball draft isn’t until June or July, so we won’t know anything until then. If he’s drafted in the 3rd round or better, expect him to go. If not he’ll be here in the Fall to catch passes. As for Caleb, expect him to be here but redshirt. He’s got the talent & speed, but w/ KM & Lump & possibly TB coming back from injury enough to play sparingly, it might serve well for Richt to sideline him until next season as Richt is Big on blocking —-something most all Frosh RB’s don’t do well.

I cannot wait for fall like the rest of the Bulldog nation. The anticpation of the dogs falling to Florida, Tennessee, and USC just makes my day!

To see those Dog fans walk loathe out of Sanford-Spurrier stadium after a crushing loss to the Vols as Erik Ainge picked them apart like a dead chicken, then to watch the Dogs lose to Vandy at home for homecoming.

Then it only got better with a road loss to Kentucky, then a crushing blow by the Gators in Jax to make it 15 of 17 over the past 17 years.

Yes: G-Day will give all Dog fans a sneak peak of just how pathetic the Dogs will be for 2007, and how the program is begining to unravel, again.

Offensive Line is the major concern. In depth analysis of each position would be extremely helpful, specifically the OL. OL, lost 3 starters plus Michael Turner, who was very effective @ guard-significant concern. Watts, was not effective, played only because of lack of depth.

Has anyone seen a depth chart!!!!

AJC, coverage of both Tech and Georgia is extremely poor. Georgia is # 1 in men’s tennis and # 3 in the womens. Gymnastics is highly ranked, plus others. Consideration should be given, to providing coverage at least once per week to the other sports. Majority of the information could be obtained from georgiadogs.com. This would be extremly informative for those who do obtain information from the net.

Little Buck,

You wrote “GT still holds 4 national titles as compared to your 1 national title, which was 27 years ago, and don’t attempt to make up some half a* title from some unknown source”

Lets take a look at your 4 titles.

1917 - GT dethrowns Harvard who won 4 NCs that decade

1928 - Defending NC Yale can’t repeat

1952 - MSU won the AP title, but GT claims title awarded by Berryman and Poling

1990 - Colorado wins AP and Coaches Poll

and that 1942 Georgia “made up” title? That was awarded by Berryman and Poling. So is the source of your ‘52 title legit or not?

The “OL” is coming along, 2 deep and the players have picked up the new blocking simplified blocking schemes very well. Moved Ellerbe out of #1 LB spot yesterday. The “D” whipped up on the “O” yesterday so the D-Day game should be fun.

BTW, I think a lot of people are underestimating the Dawgs for’07. I don’t see anyone who has better talent and I think “Game Day” coaching is going to count more than ever and for the 1st time we have a true HC. This is goingto make a big difference.

Hell, 3 of those titles were won back when Army, Princeton and Yale were still powerhouses. Do you think anybody gives a s** about their championships won back when helmets were just a piece of leather and linemen were 5-10, 155 lbs.?

General, Regarding that NC game without the SEC team. You would be correct I believe. I think the country might want to see a competitive game therefore they would have to have Pac-10/Big-11/ACC play each other. Any 13-0 SEC or 1 loss SEC team would completely dominate and you would have another SEC blow out and boring ball game to watch.

By marty

That’s what happened when USC “won” the title in ‘03. LSU pounded OK for the real title. But the media had a Keith Jackson soft spot for the Rose Bowl and allowed a DII title game between USC and Michigan. What a joke. The Big 10 is 3 yards and a pile of crap.

UGA fans have plenty of time, beause they get plenty of breaks from their Lawn Service firms, and cleaning septic tanks.

UGA does not own a damn thing, except their big mouths…all you hear is wait until next year, wait until next year, and it never comes. Yes, they own GT over the past 8 years, but that is no big deal.

The largest claim at UGA is thay they play in the SEC, and that’s all.

  1. They cannot defend their program without attcking another program (i.e. GT or AU)

  2. They cannot claim national titles in the likes if of (OU, USC, Notre Dame, or even GT)

  3. They will always lose 1-3 games per year, with the UF game being a guaranteed loss.

Bottom line: UGA sucks.

BC in the NW,

I think Georgia’s getting underestimated too, but it’s because there’s so much unknown. Last year we were ranked too high to start with and after 4 games you could see the team was out of synch but because we hadn’t lost, the Bulldogs were still highly ranked. I think this year the pollsters are going to make Georgia prove it. With the redshirts and the JUCOs and OSU to open, I think the Dawgs will prove it pretty quick. I guess we’ll all find out in about 5 months.

I swear, I feel my IQ dropping tenfold each time I read one of these blogs. If yall want to talk real football, then let’s talk University of TEXAS football! We’d crush any school in the SEC as football is king in Texas. As far as this whole “southern hick/inbred/hillbilly” thing, you Confederate flag waving wacko’s down here make us Texans look liberal! Of course, until I moved here to Atlanta from Houston I thought I was a southern redneck(at least that’s what my yankee cousins called me). Whenever football in the South is talked about around here, Texas is NEVER mentioned because we are a part of the SouthWest(which is geographically true, but c’mon!) Ok, i’m done ranting and raving now.

Maybe we can go to the Varsity for an orange fizz, then head up to Grady High School to see if we can score some chicks. I know a guy who can get us back stage passes to Air Supply this summer! Let’s do it! Wait, I have to change now into my other polyester sweat suit (wow, that was fast, oh what you do to me, Buck), I’ll be back as soon as I change my pants and my Spidey underwear, and grab my Captain Kirk action set.

I’m back. Can you believe a UT fan made fun of us, Buck Belue from Tech? After all we did for them at the SEC BB tournament by loaning them our goats and selling them “Hooked on Phonics” so they could read the scoreboard! Ungrateful Philip Phulmer Phuckers! That’s the last time I show a Tennessee fan how to use a toilet! And I never knew they all pee sitting down, just like us! Extraordinary! And they claim they play football, too, just like us!!! Not sure by what quantum leap you all gathered that I made some sort of comparison between Athens and Auburn, but I only spoke (truthfully) about Athens. Auburn isn’t ignorant enough to view itself (or Athens) as some sort of “Classic City” by some stretch of the imagination.

I went to undergrad at the University of Wisconsin, so I think I could have gained admission to UGA. I am painfully familiar with UGA and Athens, having lived many years there in my youth. I did attend the grossly overrated Athens Academy before going to boarding school for the last few years of prep school.

You are right about UGA “owning” Georgia in the sense that the U. of Alabama “owns” Alabama. In the South, every toothless backwoods hayseed who didn’t attend even Crap Community College is a raving, rabid “fan” of “The University of (fill in the blank here with his or her state)”. Lousiana Cletuses’ adoration of LSU is the sole exception.

Here in Alabama, it is no different. Auburn is the only town in the entire state which has more Auburn “fans” than Alabama fans. The clubs and restaurants here tend to be upscale and fashionable - but drive five minutes away to adjacent Opelika and enter one of the frightening Jerry Springer bars there, and it is “Bammer” galore - complete with enormous “Bama” banners and conspicuous “Bama” crap covering the back windows of the pickup trucks jacked up to the heavens on mammoth tires. The overwhelming vast majority of the tattoo covered patrons hate Auburn passionately at ‘Jackie Lee’s’, the ‘C** & Bull’ and the ‘Springvilla Cafe’, which are barely outside the Auburn city limits.

I’m not sure how to explain this Southern phenomenon of the most marginalized invariably being the most rabid backers of the University of (Whatever). Maybe in their pea brains, they see the “University” of (Whatever State) and Whatever state as synomymous; and their worship of said university as some sort of birthright which requires no diploma? It would make a fascinating sociological study.

It is similar in Georgia. Some say the stupid fat Georgia “G” covering the back window of the pickup truck is inversely proportional to the odds that the inbred driver actually attended a class there (or anywhere else). These rednecks don’t have Georgia Tech covered pickup trucks, in case you haven’t noticed. It just doesn’t happen. That you don’t know this speaks volumes.

With the HOPE scholarship, Georgia has over the past twelve years or so moved up tremendously in academic rankings nationally and in SAT averages at the UNDERGRAD level. They are one (I repeat ONE) space above Auburn in SAT averages of undergrad students among all twelve SEC universities- and this is only since and because of the HOPE scholarship which excludes most of you. This is NOT the case at the graduate level.

At the undergraduate level, the SEC universities ranked in order of average SAT scores are:

  1. Vanderbilt
  2. U. of Florida
  3. U. of Georgia
  4. Auburn
  5. U. of Tennessee
  6. U. of Kentucky
  7. U. of South Carolina
  8. U. of Arkansas
  9. U. of Alabama
  10. LSU
  11. Mississippi State U.
  12. U. of Mississippi

Look it up on the Peterson’s or Princeton Review websites.

Once again, Brian from Cowtown, you have more than enough to worry about at Allbarn to keep you busy, what with your overrated head coach, Big Money Bobby calling the shots, and Nick Saban getting ready to kick y’all’s butts in recruiting and on the field.

And I’m sorry that you could never get a date from the multitude of beautiful girls in Athens, and that’s why you had such a miserable time that you had to plow through the heiffers in Wisconsin and Cowtown.

But dude, enough with your idiotic preoccupation with Athens. Yes, we’re the “Classic City.” Just like New York is the “Big Apple.” Just like Chicago is the “Second City.” Just like Philly is the “City of Brotherly Love.” Get over it. Athens is the “Classic City.” Just because you couldn’t get laid in a sea of pu$$y (probably because you b*** like a 10 year old girl with a skinned knee) isn’t going to change that.

it’s on collegesports.com)Rivals) kelly Quinlen brings up the point hat Stafford and Cox aren’t as close as they were. The chemistry between the two has gone down. Hard to tell if there’s any negative reaction from the team. Don’t feel or see any. Biggest supprose is Moreno.Coach Ball says he’s ,not hitting the right hole and that’s been a disapointment. They may just try o get him the ball it space and let’m go. A.J. Bryant is slipping and the clock is ticking

By flightdocdawg

Thanks Buck. I can’t say that I’m too suprised re: Cox. He’s got 3 years of eligibility left and barring a Stafford injury will never start a game at UGA. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a DGD, but we all know that he could start just about anywhere else. Moreno has yet to take a snap in a college game so I expect he’s still got a lot of learnin’ left to do. I’m disappointed to hear that about AJ. It’s not too late though. He’s still got fall practice left to make an impression. You’d think that knowing it’s his senior year would be more than enough motivation.

Trey Tompkins is going to be a future Dawg. The baseball team has a great coach and will improve. Coach Richt is the best coach in America. He listens. He needed to give up playing calling and he did. We need a new OC and line coach. We got both. We are on the verge of signing one of the best football classes in years. A.J. Green is a future AA. A.J. Harmon will be a future AA. It feels great to be a Bulldawg. The G-Game is the start of a great season. Matthew Stafford is the best QB in America. Go Dawgs.

Who has ever described their radio show as an Editorial? I just wonder what you mean by the terms that have nothing to do with what I posted.
