What are the odds?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The surprising fact that the oddsmakers have made Georgia a 2-point favorite Saturday over the Jackets appears to indicate one or both of the following:
a) On top of the fact that the game is in Athens, the folks setting the odds think the Dawgs’ showing against Auburn was impressive enough to counter their dismal play earlier against Vandy and Kentucky.
b) The oddsmakers aren’t that impressed with the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division champions and so have picked an unranked Georgia team that lost to Vandy and Kentucky to beat the Jackets (if only by 2 points).
Of course, the oddsmakers picked Auburn by 14 over Georgia, too.
Still, it’s an interesting commentary on how the two programs are viewed. …

BTW Dawgs fans, if you get a second, go to [www.scotch-blue.com/unmask] to see the coolest nursery ever made for a little Bulldog.
If you are so inclined, vote for our nursery by clicking on the picture that says ‘Bedroom,’ clicking on the drag-down menu that says ‘Select…,’ choosing Oct. 8 – Oct. 14, then finding the University of Georgia nursery, and clicking on ‘Vote for me’.

the line has as much to do with how much is being bet on each team as who will (theoretically) win. The bugs talk a good game but apparently aren’t all that confident in ole 4th down Reggie. I don’t blame them. But this raises the question-if we do beat Tech and they beat Wake Forest!!!! inthe ACC title game, does that make us ACC champions? Seriously, a win over Tech would probably get us back in the Polls and rescue what has been a really rough season.

I also think tis game will be a real down and dirty war. The Dawgs fighting to save their season and the Bugs trying to break the streak. has any current tech player ever beaten UGA ? I don’t think so. I expect it to be decided inthe last minutes, could go either way. Turn overs will be key-if the Dawgs protect the ball, they will prevail.

Georgia at home and UGA’s recent domination of Tech probably have as much to do with the line as the win over Auburn. Just like Florida is almost automatically the favorite over Georgia, UGA will automatically be favored to beat Tech. While this year looks like the best chance Tech has had in years, the Jackets were in position to win the past two years and just couldn’t get it done. The only way for the Jackets to change that is take care of business and beat a team that is inferior in every phase of the game outside punt and kick returns.

It’s a guess—-that’s ALL it is. They’re right some, they’re wrong others. Usually home teams are favored by 3 points or so, so on a neutral field I think Tech would be favored by 1 point. The game being in Athens made it go 2 points to the home team. With all of that pointless stuff being said, if GEORGIA plays like it did against AU, Tech will be in for a long day. I personally think the momentum will go back & forth, and the team with the least turnovers/and or big special teams play will win. GO DAWGS!!!

One good win apparently overshadows the numerous mediocre efforts prior to that (see Colorado, Ole Miss, Vandy, Kentucky, etc). UGA doesn’t deserve to be in the role of favorite.

I said this before on a different blog and I’ll say it again: Stupid penalities like pass interference and more importantly personal fouls will play huge in this game. It’s always a very emotional, trash talking game. I saw that the dawgs have a committment from a QB with 4.55 speed. I checked and that’s faster than Shockley ran at the combine. Could be an intersting addition to the O. I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m expecting Cox to transfer. I guess we’ll see

cw -inferior in every phase of the game except…’ the fact is UGA is YOUNGER and less experienced than tech, but has better talent at almost EVERY POSITION,as is usually the case. Young teams are often inconsistent and that has been the case this year. But the games this team has gotten up for (Fl.,Auburn,S.C.) ,they have played well enough to beat Tech. They should be UP for their in-state rival. and they better be. but inferior? in your dreams.lol

He’ll make a mistake, but if anyone thinks that Stafford hasn’t grown by leaps and bounds this season then they don’t know FB. The whole team has to playbut the one who will make the difference is Matthew Stafford. Tech. will pick on Tra Battle for a couple orf plays but Jeff Owens and the guys in the middle have to get to Mr. 4th Down. As MS goes so will the Dawgs go. 2 td passes plus Lumpkin and some go for play calling, like the AU game and the Dawgs by 15. Said it earlier, stick by it. Dawgs, behind Stafford ,by 15

Buck has it right. If UGA does not turnover the ball and gets after Ball they have a good chance. They can’t sit back and depend on covering Calvin. He’s too good, especially at pushing off smaller DBs in the end zone. Once Tech crosses the 20 they are throwing the fade and when the ACC officials get involved they may get 12 downs. That’s tough to defend. UGA needs to be patient with the running game.

What is Chan Gailey supposedly going to Notre Dame to do? They have a darn fine coach. Notre Dame has had enough of former Tech coaches I believe. They even have Bill Lewis now. This is dumbest rumor I have ever heard. I heard on a blog Herschel is coming back to UGA and maybe they will win something meaningful again! Yeah Right. Dawgs, let’s get honest here. There are turnovers and then there are TOs. AU game, two Stafford fumbles. 1st one? A dumb play on his part. 2nd one? he had open grass and was headed for the end zone and the AU player just made a picture perfect play. MR didn’t and I don’t hold that fumble against him or anybody else when something like that happens. Team mates should have been yelling “behind you, behind you”. One against AU, 2td passes or more against “bugs”.

The two reasons that Chan is considered for the ND job is because Tech also has gold helments and the old saying “if you can’t beat em’ might as well join em’”. Navy coach also under consideration. Navy coach favored since they wear plain gold helments, no decals.

I agree with Ramble On, I hope the hits are confined to the field and everyone in the stands don’t attack each other physically or vulgar abuse. There are many children who go to these games and they do not need to see grownups acting like pre-schoolers.
Past my lecturing. Dawgs by 10. Tech has come up with some great efforts in the past and somehow fallen short. I see no difference in this game. Their best bet is to leave Mr. Double coverage alone and go to the “other” Johnson. Our best bet, go after Reggie and make him make mistakes. Be ready Matthew, they are going to throw everything but the kitchen sink, and maybe that, your way.
Now Go Dawgs, Beat Dem Bugs!!

GT has historically done better as the “underdogs” in their regular season games (and does a 1.5-point spread really qualify Tech as an underdog?)It’s usually the less important games that they crumble because they can’t/don’t get up for them or play inconsistently throughout the season. However, that was not the case this year. Tech will be up for this one, I guarantee it. UGA might as well watch tapes of the Va Tech game, because that’s what it’s going to look like in Athens on Saturday. …and wasn’t UGA favored HEAVILY in the Vandy & Kentucky games, and in the UT game as well? I hope that coming off the Auburn win, the Dogs are cocky and arrogant. It will serve Tech well.

But unlike Sonny Perdue, he was a MAN and called the Oakgrove what it was a cestige of RACISM. All you have is two Heismans, that’s it! A bunch of 3rd rate college qb’s who are always surprised when the NFL doesn’t come a calling… Your kids aren’t game changers… Now I will give it to Hines Ward, he was self made man. That man had a chip of crap on his shoulder from the time he left the Poultry Research Council and he should be proud. But let’s go down the list: R. Edwards (flop), Musa Smith, 2 spots behind a VOL (flop), That big all world lineman drafted no. 1 by Philly (flop), and like the old Rap said “It could go on and on to the break of dawn!” Face the fact, all minotiries can do for UGAG is ENTERTAIN you or clean your yards… At least we moved up from cleaning up your houses… Oops, i forgot, we costed out that job when we learned how to read and write…

A Tech fan was driving down a country road when he came upon two UGA football players hitchiking. He told the UGA players to jump in the back of his pickup truck. He then drove down the dirt road rather fast and lost control of the truck as they were going around a curve. The truck landed in a lake. The Tech fan scrambled to the surface and swam to the bank. When he looked back at the lake, the two UGA football players were still sitting in the bed of the truck looking frantic. As the truck began sinking the GT fan yelled for the UGA players to get out truck, to which they replied, “We’re tryin’ to get out, but we can’t get the dang tailgate open!”

Jerrell you are an idiot. Why don’t you get your facts straight. Georgia has the 3rd most players in the NFL. For all of those you listed what about Champ Bailey, Marcus Stroud, Richard Seymour, Thomas Davis, Sean Jones, Odell Thurman, Hines Ward, Mac Strong, Ben Watson, Randy McMicheal, Reggie Brown, Greg Blue, David Pollack(pre injury), Olandis Gary, Terrell Davis, the list goes on and on. Dear Dim Wit (AKA Jackson) Where did I mention Tech being a producer of NFL talent? 7 of the players that you mentioned are underachievers who are BACKUPS!!! TD, he should thank Alex Gibbs everyday for finally giving him a chance to be seen, he sure didn’t get it at NBF Memorial… That George Allen sure knew talent didn’t he, if Long Beach wouldn’t have pulled the plug, you would have never had him… Odell, that brother is the poster child for what Faith based coaching we get you… Suspended and on the verge of coaching at Baldwin County. Those Bailey boys, they are very good, and it shows what a family who put achievement as a goal can get you… Reggie Brown might as well be a receiver for the Falcons, who couldn’t catch a cold… Now, those interior DL’s you mention, very good players, how many National Championships did you get out of them? Answer zero! I do think Greg Blue is going to be special, I can say that… BUt the bigger picture is the University of Georgia and WHAT is supposed to be to all of us! Surely the odds are 51:7 in favor of UGA. The odds are high that Techies will spend the rest of the school year in their mother’s basement watching their Star Trek DVD sets.
Tech should get the most improved trophy — going from the Nut Bowl (thumped by 28 points by the third best team in the Mountain West “Conference” in front of, at best, 2,000 Tech fans) to the ACC Championship Game. Speaking of improvements, to my knowledge, this year’s Tech team is currently 100% free of athletes charged with, but not yet convicted of, possession with intent to distribute of almost 100 pounds of narcotics (unlike last year). Unfortunately, last year’s Tech team was, I believe, not yet on probation so there are some areas that still need improvement.
Well, things couldn’t be worse than last year, when the ACC champs had, what, 4 losses before losing in the Orange Bowl. This year’s ACC Champ should only have 3 losses before losing in the Orange Bowl. How is the ACC this year, you ask: The SEC has 3 teams in the Top 10 and 2 in the Top 5 while the best ACC clocks in at Number 16.
For laughs go to eBay and compare the number of bidders and prices of tickets for the ACC versus the SEC Championship games. I bet the idea of a Tech-Wake matchup is driving Jacksonville insane.
On Saturday, Tech will be playing in front of the largest crowd it will see all year — and that includes the ACC Championship game, and potentially the Orange Bowl. Tech’s low attendance in its puny, inadequate stadium surely reminds athletes of their high schools (hopefully fondly). Luckily, Tech can always bundle UGA or Notre Dame ticket sales to other home games to bail out the Athletic Department. If Tech wants to boost home attendance, it should consider radio broadcasts in Hindi, Farsi and Chinese so that the majority of its students can understand what is going on.
Next, let’s clear up those lingering errors about the NCAA forcing Tech to vacate all those games. The NCAA certainly wanted Tech to vacate those games, the NCAA agreed that Tech used ineligible players, and the NCAA felt that vacating those games was more than fair in terms of severity, however the NCAA reversed its initial decision to have Tech vacate those games because the NCAA didn’t catch Tech cheating soon enough. I hope that clears things up, so please don’t hassle the Techies about vacated games — goodness knows those poor pencil-necked geeks have enough hangups and emotional baggage as it is. And another thing: stop taunting the Nerds as “bed wetting communists”, which is entirely outdated — try “bed wetting terrorists” instead.
Finally, remember when pelting Techies with Clearasil bottles and Milk Bones to not throw them too hard or you will hurt their delicate little bodies.
It’s almost Thanksgiving, so Techies should be thankful that the ACC stinks so much this year or otherwise it would be Toronto or the Nut Bowl again this year.

This is coming from a Tech team that has had only 7 8 win seasons over the past 40 years. Georgia has had at least 8 wins for the last 9 years in a row. We have had double digit victories for the last 4 years, and have finished in the top 10 for the last four years, and in the top 25 for the last 9 seasons. Tech has not even sniffed the top 10 this season, or any season for the last 16 years! How about you fools look back at a history of being a 2nd rate team behind the University of Georgia and keep your mouths shut before you mouth off to the wrong person and we/I shut it for you.

Buck, Jacket did not have his calculator. Either that or he is not much of a fan to forget that there are 12 regular season games this year.
Looking forward to the annual beat down.
I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Thanksgiving. Even you Jacket fans. I am thankful for the three F’s. Faith, family and friends.
Now Go Dawgs!!!!

Forgot, IMO, this best quote about Stafford came from the most unlikely place, yet, it represents what the kid’s all about. Brannon Southernland, fair to say “hardnosed”? quote- “I’ve never seen fall backward”. That to me, coming from that source is a darn strong statement about “attitude”.

Heard a strange discussion on 790 The Zone the other day. The gist— Georgia Tech takes a back seat to Georgia in college football. I beg to differ. As a California transplant who’s lived in Atlanta for 15 years— outside Georgia, it was always George Tech that was mentioned nationally as the prestige program. Great coaches like Heisman, Dodd, Ross. Three national championships to Georgia’s one. The fact that Tech has always recruited nationally, while Georgia has been largely regional in its recruiting. And the fact that Georgia Tech has always been recognized as one of America’s prestige schools— while Georgia has been mediocre until recently. Sorry, Georgia fans— but get real. This from an unbiased college football fan. .

The Dawgs have played ten pretty mediocure games, most against pretty mediocure opponents. They did play a great game against Auburn. If the regular team shows up, the game will not be close. Tech will win easily and by a big score. If the team that beat Auburn shows up, Tech will narrowly win. Either way GT wins.

Ronny, if you’re head is warm it’s because it’s shoved somewhere it shouldn’t be. I don’t live there anymore either, and I am biased but GT has NO play nationwide except for the great Calvin Johnson(who is about the only player on that team UGA actually offered.) You must be referring to the fake national championship year when a BCS format would have had them getting throttled by Colorado. My only guess is that you’re living in your fantasy Dungeons and Dragons world because you’ve hooked up with Techies since arriving in ATL. The reality is Tech ditched the SEC because it couldn’t compete, and it had to go play a bunch of basketball schools to get seven win seasons and trips to the Independence/ Humanitarian/ Weed Eater Bowls.

Watching Texas/Texas A&M, Colt McCoy, their red shirt freshman is good but take a look see, our true freshman is better. McCoys receivers are catching his passes. Of courese ABC will build up McCOY all week-end long and not mention Stafford more that once or twice. ….I hope our receivers will continue to catch because Stafford will pitch to the right spot.

If we were to lose this game it’ll be because of 1. lack of any kind of decent play calling on Offense. Tech just scored Because of a lack of offense, our “D” is worn out and Tech just wants it more. In 3 way call, family has set, each in his own home town, and called the “O” plays BEFORE THEY WERE RUN. iT’S A SHAME. We should still come from behind and win if our “OC” will lets us.

I am sick of hearing from Jerrell the black bigot raciest. He is like many others in his class can’t speak English properly (verbs) If Jerrell is a Tech student his teachers have failed him. You GT fans have run your mouths for a while now. The Bulldawgs speak from the playing field. Our lowest season in I can’t remember we still beat Tech that doesn’t say much for Tech and its fooball program.
