Un-bleeping-believable!

Finally, a 60-minute effort out of the Dogs! Finally, consistent pressure on a quarterback and a resulting four picks by the Bulldog defense, three by Tra Battle! Finally, no dropped passes! Finally, a consistent ground game led by RUNNING quarterback Matthew Stafford, who showed why football observers have said all along that he’s going to be special.

37-15!!!!

More tomorrow.

WAR EAGLE, Maybe you need to run the ball more in this league. Dumberville has an extra loss in the SEC, and you got to see what a top five recruiting class year in and year out can do. What is wrong with AUB? HAHA

Bill King, it’s all about the turnovers that did not kill us this game and a young secondary that played a great game.

Bill you continue to say nothing good about Martinez when everyone in the secondary were first year starters except for Tra. Our secondary really matured as well as Stafford right in front of our eyes.

Buck and I were probably the onlky two in the dawgnation that beleived

Finally, our Dawgs played 60 minutes of inspired football. How great it is that they got the monkey off their backs. I hope all the doubters about Matthew Stafford’s ability will now give him the benefit of the doubt. Now in two weeks we will see if this team has turned the corner and will play inspired ball against Tech. If they do then they will beat Tech for the 6th straight year. Go Dawgs

Dumb button, I wasn’t finished! I wrote last night that Georgia would win by 10 and Buck is the only other person who I believe trust the development of Stafford and how good our Dawgs really are.

We will beat Tech and go to the Chic-fil-A Bowl against Clemson or Virg. Tech!

This probably saved Maritinez’s rep but what a game for the dawg receivers. The talent was there this year to win the east but it never put 60 minutes together as a team. Has anybody checked the final stats..this was a punking of gargantuan proportions.

Oh My God!

Dawgs over Auburn; who’d a thunk it? Decisively, too. Someone pointed out last week Georgia was a fieldgoal kicker away from 8 and 2, even with all the problems (dropped passes, etc.) Take away the errors and you have the team that played today. AND THIS TEAM COULD RUN THE TABLE IN THE SEC!!! Proud of my Dawgs.

Matt Stafford grew up today. No picks, and he actually threw the ball away in the back of the endzone. Also, you could tell he learned from his fumbles by going down after he got the 1st down (in bounds no less). The next 3 years and 2 games will be special for him and the UGA nation

By dewan

November 11, 2006 05:30 PM | Link to this

So we show up to play against AU but let the record still stand that we lost to Vandy and Kentucky. Have Denis Felton beat Kentucky and this will be even. Nice game to the Dogs and I will give Stafford props for a good game minus the 2 fumbles when he was trying very hard to make a play. I would think with experience he will learn that he is not Vick and to cover it up because he will get caught. I think he showed that when he slid later in the game and also that TD run where he covered it up.
So did CMR undercoach all year or did he overcoach today? Hmnnnn

We fans who never gave up have our redemption in this game. Where is the Fire Maritnez crowd today. Raleigh, my only answer as why not before is that yes this is a rebuilding year and they had to gel to get to this point. In most games they had flashes of brillance that would get destroyed by mistakes. Me and a few others including true dawg, who I nominate to the all-blog team with Conyers, kept saying all they had to do was put it together for 60 minutes. Well today was the day, and it felt wonderful. Today they went from Blunderdawgs to Wonderdawgs. Way to go TEAM!

By dewan

November 11, 2006 05:45 PM | Link to this

So because you criticize the team when he play pathetic means we are fairweather? I think not. Since this is America we can complain all we want. The fact of the matter is that yeah we beat AU and I am happy but that makes this year even worse since if we can beat AU on the road then how in the $#)Q do we lose to Vandy, UK, barely beat MS State, Colorado, Carolina, etc and forget to play the 2nd half against Tenn. I and all the bloggers who complain love our Dogs but if we see fit then we will write about it. 5 losses at UGA is unaccepatble here but maybe at Tech that is okay. Yes Stafford played a decent game (2 fumbles) but it was not all him as the line blocked and the coach called a few more running plays ( realy should have done all year), receivers made excelent catches. I still think that Joe Cox and Blake Barnes were not given a fair shot but obviously I did not see them in practice but I gage on what I have seen on the field and that is what you and all of the rest get to see. If your son was any of the other 3 QB’s tell me what you would think if the guy playing in front of them throws 15 picks? If you can subjectively think about that without trying to say fairweather then we can accomplish something in this discussion. All we expect is a consistent effort from a team that should be better than what we have seen on the field. There is no team in the nation including Michigan, Ohio State, etc.. that is head above shoulders and thats why I think we have squandered another opportunity to win a NC. It sucks that the trade school downtown can say that they have a more recent NC than we do.

CONGRADUALTION DAWGS. just got home, left 4th qt. I apologize for not making it a classic, but really dawgs played very good. Auburn had only 35 yards passing and 4 int. , but still you deserve to win big. I would like to make a couple of comments, first CMR is a class act, he could made it worst, so hang on to him. second, I hope my blogs during the week expressed my concern about how good Auburn really was, not taking anything away from the dawgs, but we have not been very consistant all year. Matt Stafford showed his colors today in front of one of the loudest stadium in the SEC. I wish UGA best against Tech and your bowl. Auburn can beat Bammer and finish 10-2, which is still good in the SEC…Damn cuz and gang, you needed this, hopefully we will play better in Sanford next year.I am going to fix myself a volks-soda and watch South Carolina - Gators game

Dewan critisize all you want. Some of the crititcs on these blogs pretend to be Dawg fans and the ammount of hate and venom that comes out is appalling. I have pointed out what I think are problems and asked questions which not being plugged into the team, I have no answers. How do we beat AU and lose to KY and Vandy, read my above post. It is okay to be critical, but some people cannot leave the hate out of it and that annoys the heck out of me. Fire this coach, blame this player. The Dawgs win as a team and lose as a team. The team played a great full 60 minute game today. My play of the game was the same as CMR’s. Stafford had the ball for a pass inside the ten, no one was open and he threw it away in the end zone. He did not do that in the Vandy or Ky game. He has sat at the feet of the master and he is learning.

Wasn’t going to post over here, because, frankly, the Bandwagon nature of Bill King, whoever he is, makes me sick.

However, want to give props to Cuz and WarEagle.

Cuz,

correct, you’ve been a real supporter of the team and the coach. The blogs were a real mess this week with knee-jerk idiots demanding that CMR have a public blood letting in mid season just to make them feel better that changes were going to happen. I guess they feel resorting to a panic mode would have been best for the players and recruits.

CMR was able to get the team to come together this week, and what a week it is. I hope it’s a glimpse of what we can begin to expect again from the Dawgs, when all these bandwagon fans will swear they were always supportive (like Bill King).

And WarEagle,

You didn’t have your best day today. But you’ve showed class before and after, and it is noted and appreciated. Also liked Coach T’s comments after the game. Very gracious and professional. Good luck against Bama.

To all of the dogs, you are great. This will keep Martinez bragging about his s** schemes. Nobody notice that the two marches for 15 points by Auburn are so easy. This will kill us in a critical game like NC game(or any bowl games for that matter). My medicines for the NC game (may be in 1, 2 years from now): 1) Dear MR please choose a real OC. 2) Replace Martinez. 3) Must put a man on the opponent punter, when he has 1 more extra minute = 10 more yards covered downfield. 4) That is right for the RB to wait for the hole, not a pure speed likes Brown (we have been watching the other team played, don’t be ashame). 5) Don’t let UM stick his NOSE to every of our recruites, sign all GA 5- star boys./ Truely Dawg.

In answer to your question, Yes, if you criticize the Dawgs on a public board, you are a fairweather fan. So, how about doing us all a favor and going and being somebody else’s “fan”.

pdawg

I am SO glad Coach Richt listened to you…otherwise, we couldn’t have won this game.

I am so thoroughly sick and tired of all the naysayers and gripers on these boards, starting with the whiner who writes the column. These kids have worked hard this season. It’s been a tough year…but…you can’t win the SEC every year. And, we are so freakin’ better off than we were for almost two decades before Richt came. Remember when a 8-4 year was considered a good year? If you don’t, then you are one of those who’ve just jumped on the bandwagon since we’ve been winning. Those of us who remember those years and supported the Dawgs anyway, are dang glad of where we are now.

I hope all you white trash dawg fans who never even went to UGA will now shut the F* up!! Richt is the best coach to EVER lead the DAWGS. In 20 years, he will have the same reputation in this country as JOE PA or the Bear. Mark my word, we WILL WIN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2008. I know that for many of you, if Georgia doesn’t win, you beat your wife, but you tried to take down the man who has brought us the 1st SEC championship, TWICE!!, in 20 years. You don’t deserve to enjoy this. Step back and let the professionals run this show and go back to whatever you do that barely gets you by day to day, because I don’t want to hear your pathetic whining during a brief downturn that just occurred for 4 weeks in a 5 years run anymore.

You know, I get the feeling that out of all of our rivalry games, Coach Richt likes winning this one the best. He is 3-3 now vs. the Tigers, so it’s not like it’s once in a million (like Florida), or an every-year occurrence (so far) like Tech. Plus, it’s pretty neat considering Tuberville felt in 2001 he could lecture Richt coming into the SEC about running the ball. Two years later in Athens, Richt mocked the idea that Auburn thought it good stuff the ball down our throats, and we won, 26-7. By the way, since his first year in Athens Richt has only lost once after a bye week, that to Auburn last year. Remember the last time we had a bye week before the Techies? 51-7, baby! Just another win would be sweet enough for me. Go Dawgs!

longtime reader, first time poster. Unbelievable performance by the dogs. Cool and calm demeanor held throughout the game, which is a blantant departure from the team so far. We have been so fractured in our performances throughout this season, it is readibly easy to understand the dissent with the game plans/coaches /etc. I’ve been such an active critic of Mr. Battle throughout the season, I’m very glad to eat humble pie based on his performance this afternoon. Still unbelievable to me. We’re having an off year and still beat the #5 team in the nation on the road. It really accentuates how crazy things happen in rivalry games and how the boys are better than they have played. Anyways, I do kind of feel bad for Cox for replacing Zabransky as the name of the qb that played the worst against UGA ever. Throw Auburn throw. I hope the Dawg nation roots hard for Arkansas as they play fun “sec football”. Go dawgs and cheers to the our fans who didn’t completely jump ship. This was probably the seminal win of Richt’s tenure when you consider all of those who strangely want his head…

its amazing what happens when the receivers catch the ball, they protect the qb, and staff makes smart throws. the best throw he made all day is when he threw out of the back of the end zone instead of trying to force it when there wasnt nothin there, now if we can just get to hold onto the ball slide. good job D, good play calling it finally all came together

johnny heisman:

its obvious that your attempts to negate the elation that dawg fans are currently experiencing is done so in an attempt to compensate for the fact that whatever team you are partial to (you sound like a nerd, so i’d venture to say its the gnats) will never be able to supply the extraordinary feelings of emotion that the dawgs do for their fans, be it ups or downs.

i would rather see the dawgs lose to vandy and kentucky (once it became clear that they were not of championship caliber) then to see them go into auburn with a 10-0, or 9-1 record and and come out with an L.

I heard Reggie Ball has had a tutor and he can now count not only to four but all the way to 10, after that he has to go to the sidelines and have a trainer untie his shoes.

You really don’t know how pathetic you sound, do you?

Great game ‘Dogs! You’ve taken a lot of flack this season and have proven to be a class act. Kudos to MR for the same reason, and for ordering Matt to take a knee at the end. Auburn may be our oldest rival, but they’re decent folks in the “fairest village on the plain.”

The Dawgs won a very important game today by beating a very good Auburn team. The difference was simple….the Dawgs found some HEART!!! You could see it all season, the team was playing uninspired football all year. This is a young team with tremendous potiental. Today, it finally played to that level. Congratulations to CMR and his staff for a job well done. Stafford has all the tools of a champion and could lead the Dawgs of the future in a way not see since Hershel Walker.

Anyone who thinks Richt and Martinez should go are simply CRAZY. Richt is the class act of the SEC and Martinez will prove to be one of the finest defensive coaches in the nation…he just needs to get some more depth and talent. Would you rather have Les Miles or Fulmer? Richt has more class in his little finger that both of those combined.

But the lesson today is HEART! You can have the best players in the league and the best coaching staff in the country but if you are not playing insprired football (like the first 9 games of the season) don’t expect much more than we got. Today, the team (like the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz)found its heart.

Congratulations on a great win over a very talented Auburn football team. GA Tech will be a challenge but another effort like today and the Dawgs will finish the season 2-0.

The Dawgs in 2007 could be something special.

Had big get together with Dawgs and Eagles up here today and their was complete agreement on a couple of things.1 When Matthew laid that ball out there about 40 yds. and Bryant run under it and caught it, that was THE TURNING POINT OF THE GAME! From that point on you could tell that the players knew they had their leader and everything, offense and defense, flowed from that single turning point. Just a couple of points. 1. Some one asked about the coaching of Stafford. I made a point about 6 or 7 weeks ago that we had to realize that coaching Matthew Stafford was a learning time for MR because he’d never had a young QB with as much talent in his coachiing career. 2. We were going to have to let the true freshman play through his mistakes but at the end of the day all would be well. I saw two men grow in their profession in ‘06. Mark as a QB coach and Matthew Stafford as a college QB. Anybody that wants to harp on the past doesn’t bother me and I don’t think you’re not a true Dawg. Me? I’ll remember the bad days and as MR said, someday laugh about them but I’m looking toward the future starting with recruiting and the “bug” game in two weeks. BTW, MR used the pass and threat of the pass to set up the run and Muschamp made a horrible error that I’ll bet nobody will make again. He didn’t pay any attention to the KY. game and HE DIDN’T PUT A SPY ON STAFFORD SO WHEN WE SHOWED A PASSING FORMATION, AU PLAYED FOR THE PASS AND THAT SET UP THE RUN!

Thanks, Cuz. Back at ya. As a college football fan, I just wish we could somehow filter out the postings from losers from these blogs(Lord knows we have enough of them on ours as well), so that the real fans could have some real discussions on football. What’s interesting to me is the difference in the receivers this week. They looked like completely different people and made some amazing catches. Does anyone know what the difference was? What triggered the change?

good win for the dogs today. i expected them to fare as poorly as i expected my vols to do so against the hogs, but i guess i was only half right. but i gotta ask the dog fans, does one good showing against auburn really make up for the horribly eye gouging performances against vandy, kentucky, floriday, tennessee, plus the unsatisfyingly bad games against ole miss, miss st, and colorado? the fans have every right to be proud of the win today, but the blogs im reading here make it sound like the entire season up to this point didnt even happen and the dogs are immediately back to their annually over-hyped selves. so, what do you believe you have, a team that is good because it played one good game when they had nothing to gain, or a team that is mediocre because it played seven horrific games when it counted?

Overall maybe the best dawgs have played in a couple of years. The team played smart, gutsy and with intensity. Who saw this coming? not me I thought it would take off season changes before we saw this kind of play again. How tasty this crow supper is,I,m reminded why coach Richt is a top five guy.The secondary was superbly prepared they seemed to know where the ball was going before the receivers.Johnson Taylor and Battle have been the rocks on defence all year,if the rest of the starters came to play every game like they do UGA would play in the dome for a title. Now for offence receivers to numerous to list played like the stars they have the talent to become, and Stafford showed a glimse of a complete QB.The strength of his arm is obvious but the touch on every type pass was a rare display, and his reads and reaction time is nothing short of phenomenal from running lanes opening till he moved down field looked instantaneous. Now 9-4 seems very possible and next season,LET US DREAM!

I’m new to the blog comments, but have been observing them for the past 5-6 weeks. It was hard to watch all the Richt and WM detractors, and now it’s great to see them disappear. I love how all the Tech fans have disappeared from the dawg blogs too, so I of course, had to go to theirs and give a little calling card. The big difference in today’s game had to be the recievers. They caught the ball when it mattered and kept drives alive. That kept our defense from being worn out and giving up the killer “4th quarter scoring drive.” Cox and Irons were downright awful and the defense pounced on them. I don’t even think Reggie on his worst day played as bad as Cox did today, but then again he did throw the ball away on fourth down. So we’ll have to see in two weeks. Keep up the pressure on D, and Reggie will not be able to get the ball to Calvin Johnson, 99/100 of the “Ramblin’ Wreck” offense. Congratulations to the dawgs on their performance today, an all around impressive upset.

Cuz, thanks for the kind words. GTAlum, when Stafford made that 1st 1st down and then when he hit that 53 yd, bomb, the team all of a sudden realized that they had a leader! You saw a swagger, a strut,a Battle interception returned for a TD. A leader putting the ball where he was EXPECTING THEM TO CATCH IT! Every day wont be a holiday but the team knows they have a triggerman under center. MR and his QB, MS, outsmarted AU. They player knew what we were going to try on offense, we tried and bam! BC in the NW, Maybe you’re right on that. It just seemed like more than that to me. I saw the Georgia team I’m used to seeing play—- on this weekend. I just have a suspicion that the coaches may have figured something out with the players. Who knows? I was just glad to see it. Like I’ve said, I want UGA to win every game they play(except one(grin)). The interesting thing to talk about though is this. Texas, Cal, Auburn. All went down. How does that effect the joke championship(sorry I mean BCS). Are we looking now at a rematch no matter who loses of the OS Mich game?

I have to also make a comment to DawgeatVol,

CJ is a phenomenal player. He is also a class act(much like Hines Ward); and as such I want him to go Pro next Year. I just wish the Falcons could be the ones to draft him. Could you imagine Vick with a receiver like him? Just a thought.

Love that the “see no evil, speak no evil” faction uses today to vindicate themselves as “true fans”. Kinda sad though that they use today to spackle over all the disappointment from this season. According to the “never is heard a discouraging word” bunch, those of us that don’t embrace underachievement and losses to Vandy and KY and have the audacity to say so have to hand in our diplomas and our dawg gear.

Today proves us right. This team has way too much talent to lose to Vandy and KY. Just wish that the “aw shucks” crowd would realize that we won today because we tried some of the obvious stuff the realists have been demanding all along.

Well, we are all happy today, particularly the “true believers” because according to their comments they were apparently thrilled with the Vandy and KY games.

Fans that don’t think other fans have the right to voice displeasure when the wheels fall of the program can kiss my a* and go to hell.

That’s what I’ve been waiting all year to see.

Matthew, welcome to the world, enjoy your stay at UGA, and may 3 SEC Championships in a row be your everlasting legacy here.

And for those who think Willie has proven anything, how about you let him put together two straight games?

This is the Willie Martinez way: have your D ready to play unbelievable one game, come out the next game and play like pop warner 7 year olds.

What I want from Willie is consistancy from his defense.

Win out, otherwise, I still say fire Willie Martinez, who’s lack of consistancy as a DC cost us Auburn and West Virginia last year and Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Kentucky this year.

If he can get the D to get some consistancy, and if he never ever goes back into that prevent soft zone, then he will have learned his reprieve.

So the question is, where have you moron fairweather fans, who have to be inticed with free cokes and hotdogs to fill your very small stadium (which was downsized)… where have you been all this time?

We’ve never left, we never will leave. We’ll be here no matter what, and they’ll keep adding seats to Sanford Stadium, until they close off the bridge and our capacity will be around 110,000 people.

And by the time that happens, I’m sure Bobby Dodo Field or whatever, will be on it’s third downsizing, down to about 30,000 people, which makes for an intimate baseball crowd.

The difference today besides the receivers catching the ball was the defense finally got some pressure on the QB and we won the turnover battle. I don’t know if Cox was playing hurt or not, but its obvious he is not much of a threat to run. Although I hate the trade school with a passion I am still concerned about Reggie Ball. For whatever reason, the scrambling QBs have had our number this year. UGA seems to play well against QBs who sit in the pocket like Blake Mitchell, Chris Leak and Cox. Just have to wonder what might have been of this season had we not lost our kicker and Stafford started the season with the 1st team. He has taken his lumps the last 4 or 5 weeks, but he arrived in that last drive against UK last week when he took us the length of the field to score in the 4th quarter with the game on the line. I think if Stafford had played more earlier in the year we beat FL and UK. Oh and by the way we found a kicker today. Hard to believe Kelso did not get a shot to kicker earlier in the year. Its obvious UGA has better athletes than Vandy and UK so why could we not stop them? Poor coaching. I am a true UGA fan and I hate our defensive scheme right now. This is not an attak on Martinez, but I think his scheme stinks and we need more of an emotional leader.

Correction for you my Friend. A fairweather fan is one who jumps ship when things are bad but is the biggest fan when things are good. Check the record and you can see that I support the Doawgs and always will no matter is Chuck Brown is the head coach or Jim Harrick (LOL). 5 Losses is and always be unacceptable at UGA. I cant even walk in to my job without being hounded about losing to Vandy, UK, and almost MS and Colorado. Its so bad that I have a Wisconsin fan giving me flak. My question was never answered to why did we lose to the aforementioned teams, was it bad coaching or was today overcoaching? Lloyd Carr lost 5 games last year and was given an ultimatum this year to win or else hit the road. He has responded with an undefeated record so far. If CMR can do the same I will never say a negative thing about him but as it stands we have underachieved with him as the coach. The state of GA has too much talent and also to many great players head to Auburn which you never see great players from Alabama come to UGA (why is that), to lose or struggle to inferior teams. You can say what you want about the SEC but other than Tenn, AU (2), UF, LSU the other teams in the league suck (including Alabama)and we should beat them with the scout team. Every player on the roster was a high recruit so it makes no sense that Stafford was afforded the opportunity to turn the ball over as much and get a pass. What happens if he throws some picks against Tech then the ball game. He is not Favre so dont tell me what Brett does cause Brett is one of the 5 greatest QB’s in the history of the game. All I want is a 100% effort from all coaches, players, and trust me fans will cheer when good but boo when bad. A fairweather fan will be ho hum and encourage bad play and say its okay but this is not Little League so everyone does not get to play. If you do something bad and the fans dont give a response then you probably dont have good fans but if you screw up and they let you know about it then you have real fans who no when you are dogging it. Ask Reggie Brown, Fred Gibson, T Edwards, and Andre HAstings.

GTAlum, you’re right, it was more than that; however, when the team saw their leader lay that all in their , they knew they had a chance beyond all doubt and their coaching, physical ability and will to win kicked in. That’s why it was so important for Stafford to come through. Did you notice where MR was very down Fri. night wondering if he had given Matthew a game plan that would build confidence in himself? It’s in MB column, I think. Why was MR worried about MS? Because he knew that as his QB went, so to would the team go.Matthew Stafford was the spark, the leader, the man.

Great win for the Dawgs. The team clicked on offense and defense. This was a team effort and a great day for the coaches also. CMR says the gameplan was not different, so I am assuming that the players executed. It was wonderful to see a running game. Even Stafford wanted to run in the open space. He just got to learn to protect the ball and get down after he gets the first down because his arm will take us farther than his legs will. Great game for Lumpkin. The O-line blocked and protected the quarterback. Stafford has taken some hits this year but he continues to stand in there and deliver the ball. Great toughness for the freshman. Where can I begin for the defense. This is the defense that we have been expecting all year. Battle was Brandon Cox’s leading receiver. The defensive line did not allow Kenny Irons and Brad Lester to run all over them. Great gameplan from CWM. This is a wonderful way to play before the week off. Enjoy the week off and we will watch our beloved Dawgs beat those nerds from the trade school.

why is there 6,000 posts from every idiot, a.k.a. the lunatic fringe, when the dawgs lose and only this amount of posts when the dawgs stomp the hell out of the war eagles? FIRE CMR!! where are those 6000 idiots today? you post your little rants when things go bad but you can not even be decent enough to at lest say Bravo when CMR and his dawgs do well? That’s not right and just for that, no one should listen to those idiots anymore.

they are the same idiots though who dsicredit MV7 every sunday, do not say anything when he usually plays good and sometimes great, but scream bloody murder in those 2 or 3 games every year when he is awful (most nfl qbs have 2 or 3 bad games every year by the way). BUT, at least, CMR does not have to deal with any of the hidden racism, and sometimes not so hidden racism, when he is criticized.

Folks, for all of their flaws and shortcomings, CMR and MV7 both came to this town in September 2001, and, over the last six years, have provided us all with alot of joy and excitement (and some agony and frustration because their achievements have fostered greater expectations). Their accomplishments and the good they have provided us for the last six years far outweigh any of the disappointments we have experienced with them.

SO, we should greatly appreciate that we are lucky enough to have both CMR and MV7 in this town at the same time because if we do not watch ourselves, someday we may just push them out of town and go back to what the dawgs and the dirty birds once were. Braves fans learned that lesson this year.

You better appreciate what you got and remember from whence you came from before you start trying to fire, bench, or trade the best things you have. BTW, Braves fans, that applies to you as well with andruw jones.

If the lunatic fringe gets that out of hand, I am pretty sure BAMA will trade shula straight up for CMR if that is the kind of deal the “FRINGE” is seeking.

Great game dawgs. Now go out there and squash those Bugs. AS yogi berra told derek jeter when the yanks were playing the bosox one year, this ain’t no rivalry, we’ve been beating these guys for years.

Good win Dawgs!!!

WOW, I can’t remember a game when Auburn looked this bad…however I’ll credit that to the Dawg’s defense. The D line played in the backfield most of the game…almost every throw by Cox was pressured/hurried, which was a welcomed site to the secondary.

Gotta give props to the WR’s, as much heat as they’ve taken this year they played a great game. They ran good routes and actually caught the ball.

The O line gave Stafford time to throw & opened huge holes for the running game…I don’t know why Auburn didn’t blitz more. I guess Auburn thought their front 4 could apply enough pressure but that wasn’t the case.

I couldn’t help replaying the Tennessee in the back of my mind once the 2nd half started but it was nice to see the defense keep the intensity and pressure.

Alright, now lets see if the Dawgs keep this up against the gnats. There would be no sweeter way to end this season than w/ wins against Auburn and the gnats!

ive been paying attention to the typical uga fan’s blog all season. i will summarize in a nutshell the sentiment during each significant event of the season below —-

preseason: “woof woof, national championship year, baby! the first of four in a row in the stafford era. richt is god, extend his contract for life!”

early non-conf schedule: “awright, dawgs! you whupped up on northeastwestern carolina A & T state. thats our boys. next up, westsoutheastern louisiana-lafayette monroe tech. watch out, bcs, here comes the dawgs! richt is a genius, better than dooley ever was.”

early sec games: “we are the best in the sec by far, baby. way to hang in there against a tough ole miss. cant wait to see the dawgs in the georgia dome!”

after the vols game: “dangit, we still love them dawgs. if tennessee loses to kentucky, and we can luck up and finally beat florida, we should still be able to back into another sec east title. atlanta here we come. richt is still the best we got, but maybe a little variety on playcalling and defensive schemes wouldnt hurt?”

after the vandy game: “ummmmm, i cant blog right now. fire richt, fire martinez, bench stafford and every receiver on the team.”

after the gators game: “i dont know whats up with our dawgs? we got 74 high school all americans and 22 redshirted 5 star recruits on the squad, so why cant we beat florida? must be adams fault for making us play in jacksonville, i tell ya. richt just cant beat these guys, but heck, neither could any of our other head coaches.”

after the kentucky game: “hey, at least we are bowl eligible! anybody got any connections in nashville?? i cant believe we lost to uk and vandy in the same season. richt is the first uga coach to do that since, ummmmm, dooley? oh wait, prince dooley wouldnt lose to them in the same year, would he? thats it…kick stafford off the team, send martrez to abu graib, offer miami money to take richt off our hands!!! he sucks!”

after auburn game: “see, i told you we were the best in the sec!!! if only we coulda…we shoulda…we woulda been 10-1 or undefeated and playing for the national championship like i always said we would!!! cant wait till next year. go dawgs…i always believed in you. richt is the man!!!!! stafford is the best qb uga has ever had, even better than that guy who is 4th string clipboard carrier with the seahawks that cant get into a game over seneca wallace….we love you greenie, but stafford is the greatest!”

after the tech game….to be continued.

dewan: I beg to disagree. Dictionary definition of a fan: an enthusiastic devotee, follower, or admirer of a sport, pastime, celebrity, etc. Dictionary definition of fairweather: weakening or failing in time of trouble. Now, you tell me which of those sounds more like you.

Those of us who have chosen, week in and week out, to support the team, win or lose, have done so because we think that is what the team needs to hear to do better. And, yep, I am one of those who believe (gasp) that there is more to life than winning and losing…particularly in college football. I believe that an enormous part of CMR’s job is to build character in the lives of these young men. This year has certainly given him ample opportunity for that.

Would I rather they won them all…well, uh…ye-ah. But, they haven’t. So, as a fan base, we can turn on our own, as Tennessee “fans” did last year. Or we can encourage these KIDS, believing that they are working their butts off trying to figure out and correct the problem. Maybe you’d prefer to act like a Tennessee fan, but I don’t.

And, let’s cut to the chase, it’s really not about them at all. You said it yourself…it’s about you. You don’t like the razzing you get at work. Hey, I live on the GA/TN border…know how much crap I took this year? Well, I took it, kept my mouth shut, and know that paybacks are heck. After two losses in two weeks, TN fans will be pretty quiet this week. I’ll still be flying my flags this week, while they will have taken theirs down.

And that’s the difference…I want our fans to be known as GREAT fans who love and support the team, no matter what. I’d like for our fans to show the character that these players and coaches have shown. Sadly, I don’t think, as the Dawg Nation, we have.

It took the worst QB performance to go down in quite a while to aid the Dawgs in their victory. Don’t pump your chest after this one that was basically handed to you. The Dawgs still lost to Vandy and Kentucky, and finished fourth in the SEC east, let’s not forget that. Upsets happen. Fact is, your program has slipped and will continue to slip for you’re not that good any longer.

alwaysadog…

tennessee fans did turn on the team last year. but they had a reason to because the true fans had seen this coming for awhile since randy sanders had run our offense into the dirt. fans had been calling for a change for 3 years, and the only way we could affect any change was to loudly voice displeasure as a fan base. it obviously worked, as fulmer made the appropriate move and sent sanders packing after the vandy game last year and making the hire of the year during the offseason.

if you wonder why fans of other schools dont like uga fans universally as a group, it is the holier than thou attitude expressed by the majority blogging here. the simple fact is, fans at uga act no better than fans from bama, ut, tech, arkansas, or anywhere else (except maybe florida, everyone knows they are the worst in the country…they are actually known to throw ziplock bags of urine at other teams fans, and thats the truth). there are large groups of “good fans” who get it, and larger groups of “jerk fans” who dont. isnt it odd that most of the people who blog on sites like this (myself included) arent even attending school…we are all older guys living vicariously through a group of kids making up ‘our team’, whichever that team is.

anyways, i come here to read the uga teams perspective because i live here in atlanta and like to see what people think of their team, but i blog here out of good natured fun, never with malice. i do “get it”……i just wish everyone else did.

WOW it is amazing how one great game the bandwagon georgia fans jump right back on after writing there team off the true UGA fans are still humble. I will point out Tech went to VA TECH and pounded them and then has struggled the rest of the year but wins games they are supposed to. This was a great win for yall but stafford still has some work to do because you know tenuta will blitz his pants off and david green and shockley struggled with techs defense i would hope yall are not ignorant enough to think stafford wont. Anyways I think it will be a great game even though tech should win they are better this year in every facit of the game except maybe special teams. But hey I would liek to beat yall but i would also like to rest our players for the ACC championship game a game that really matters. And for those who speak about Calvin going to the NFL dont speak to fast he is excited about the qbs we have coming in next year and says he still has somethings to work on. And for the true georgia fans i know how this feels with the bandwagon fans because tech is the same way have one good year next year it will be hard for me to get season tickets agian p** me off.

Not p** off today. Did we finally come together as a team? Was this Stafford’s coming out party? I sure hope so. At the beginning of the year Buck picked us at 8-4, 9-3. I pretty much agreed with him. All we have to due is beat the “coastal champs”….what coast are we on..the east side of the Chattahochee? i just hope the bugs use the same game plan against us that they did against the ‘Heels, 3 passes to CJ for 13 yards. I know Reggie doesn’t want to break his perfect record against us….you can count on him getting at least one 15 yarder in the game when he losses his composure.

Was really glad to see Lump get the rock today 21 times…25-30 would be even better. I think he may be all the way back from the ACL injury. Hope Danny is ok.

Sure felt sorry for the ‘Cocks, we sure know how it feels to have seven points “lost”

Wish Crompton was playing for the Vols when we played them, but then again I haven’t seen anybody that can stop McFadden. This guy is the real deal reminds me of a couple of backs that played in the SEC back in the 80’s that both wore number 34. Hope the guy wins the Heisman, but I am sure they will find some reason that a soph should not win it and and give it to the ND “golden boy”.

Will be sitting in my 50 yr seats in two weeks watching the DAWGS kick some bug butt.

GO DAWGS.

I have painfully read your blogs Dawgs , thanks for the comments. It has been very difficult to arrive at answers about the game. I think Desert hit the nail on the head when he states,”dawgs played with heart”. In the SEC you need your your pulse high for all games. UGA took the crowd out early and played out their well prepared game plan…. STUCK IT TO US…. I know the feeling of losing, I `ve been their before, but this game really was not my finest hour.. Beat Tech, 8-4, with nice bowl is not bad for the rough terrain you experienced in early and mid-season.

What, no hoses this time? While I am glad that UGA won the game, the Dawgs(MR knows)STILL have a LOT of work to do before they’re a top-10 team next season. Stafford is growing up before our eyes and to watch him outplay B.Cox was sweet. For some inexplicable reason AU seemed to be as flat as the plains they play on. Kudos to the Dawgs for not laying down and showing some pride. GO DAWGS!!(at least Milner won’t b back).

Hey Brian Jones,

YOU ARE ONE DELUSIONAL BUG FAN, MY MAN! CALVIN JOHNSON IS SO GONE SO FAST. I WOULD BE SHOCKED IF HE DID NOT ALREADY HAVE AN AGENT. WHAT A WASTE TO HAVE THE BEST WR COMBINED WITH THE WORST QB!

why would he ever come back? top 5 pick in the nfl draft with all of the millions and acclaim that is accorded to that or come back to a 40,000 seat stadium with a mediocre program, mediocre coach, a freshman QB, ugly as hell uniforms, be the stepson in georgia to uga’s golden child status in this state, with no money in your pocket, and a whole bunch of ugly as sin tech woman on campus (well, actually there really is not a campus at tech is there).

Mr. Brian Jones, Tech Fan, there is a better chance of Calvin Johnson transferring to UGA to play with Stafford than there is of Calvin Johnson coming back to Tech and forsaking the NFL draft.

Keep dreaming and while you are at it pass me whatever you are smoking. it seems to put you in a great fantasy land

In pro football, one great game does not make up for bad ones earlier in the season. But we are not talking pro football here. As a fan, I am happy about a fine win, but I am even happier that a group of young men who have been giving their all finally realized success for their efforts. What they go through to finance their college education is way more work than what most of went through to pay for college ( I played in a rock band to pay for a good bit of college, and no one limited what I made, so in addition to tuition, I had plenty of money to spend too, and didn’t work nearly as hard as they do. ) What I saw does exite me as a fan about the future. I don’t know what caused the turnaround. Maybe it was pride. Maybe they were able to relax. Anyway, whatever it was, it bodes well for the team members in the future, both on the field and in whatever they do later in life. I certainly hope the parents of recruits understand the type of life lessons that CMR and staff give to the young men in their charge.

I am proud to be a Dawg, and I urge our fans to have as much class as the AU fans.

Boy, a lot of these dog fans seem to not have much class after a great game yesterday. So we pulled out our best game of the year…we still have to play the best Tech team that we have played in 5 years. Looking back at the season, we don’t have much to brag about. So we pull off the win at Auburn….we still lost to Vandy at home and Kentucky. Our defense failed to stop either team in their final drive. Where was this all season? Why couldn’t we have this urgency after all the close games against Colorado and Ole Miss and the loss to Tennessee? Great game…hope we keep it up….I think it is disappointing to see a team look so good at the end of a season but, to lose very very winnable games

Congrats to the Dawgs. A BIG win that they desperately needed. Like a previous poster said, though: makes ya wonder why they haven’t had this kind of effort in other games this year.
On another topic, I think the SEC has been exposed this year. Except for Arkansas and maybe LSU, SEC doesn’t have a top-10 team (in my opinion). A lot of “pretty good” teams, but no great ones. Florida should be congratulated for running their schedule gauntlet with only 1 loss, but I think they are a team waiting to be exposed like Auburn was. Tennessee was exposed by Arkansas. I can’t see any SEC team beating an Ohio State or a So Cal. Arkansas has had two cracks at So Cal and been embarrassed both times. And I think they’re the best SEC team right now.

Maybe I’m in outer space(don’t think so) but I’m not at all supprised that it took this long for the Dawgs to show this kind of effort and play. We only needed one thing to get us going and that was a leader. MR said that he almost didn’t make the switch and put Joe T back in when he got healthy. I wish he had followed his gut feelings and staid with Matthew. Do anyone notice what the other players comments were about Stafford after the game? For the true freshman, the light came on. from the get go it was only when, not if this would happen. I’ll be schocked if Stafford lets HIS TEAM, and make no mistake about it this is his team, lose to the “bugs”. He won’t be perfect and he still has a lot to improve on but his team mates, that’s who counts, believe in their leader and it’ll make a hugh difference. His next step? he’ll start calling out mistakes. IMO, the biggest step forward was in the mind. He’s no longer just handling a message from the sideline, he’s leading his team. It’s all mental.

GA fans are hilarious! You people wanted heads on platters the last few weeks and everyone was to blame for all the losses and problems. Guess what…One win does not make for a better team or a winning season. They still suck. The arrogance of the players who rolled into downtown Athens last night is a clear indicator of the dillusions and mindset of a team with the wrong attitude to be successful. Oh, but wait, I know…”just wait til next year” or “Yeah we’re going to the Championship next year” or “We’re going to kill Florida next year”. each year the sec brags on out great all the teams are than lament on how they BEAT each other up during the season.

if only they played even just a few great teams at the beginning of the season to establish their supposed greatness. rather than that they play a bunch of div 3 teams and conference also rans.

yes the sec is great… in their own minds!

Anyone who has either been a Dawg fan or followed this team has known that this series has been unusual, in that the road team seems to win out most of the time. Since the Walker era, UGA is 8-5-1 at Jordan Hare, while Auburn has had the upper hand at Sanford Stadium. In fact, the most memorable wins in this series belong to UGA, beginning in 1982 (19-14 win-remember Munson’s call-HUNKER DOWN YOU GUYS!!), then in 1986 when UGA upset then #7 and unbeaten Auburn 20-16 (The infamous aftermath when the Stadium officials turned the water hoses on the Dawg fans celebrating on the field), in 1996 when UGA rallied from 28-14 and won 56-49 in 5 overtimes, and of course, yesterday’s 37-15 win over the fifth-ranked Tigers.

Hats off to Mr. Richt and the Bulldogs for the big win yesterday. Anyone who knows him knows that he didn’t compile a 52-13 coaching record at UGA before this season with smoke and mirrors and that he has too much character to let this season go to waste, even after the losses to Vandy and Kentucky. Now, maybe with a big win over Tech, they can actually get into a respectable mid-level bowl and make a springboard finish for next season.

Yelp, I was the one that predicted a national championship run in two years. I might be wrong. It could be next year. I told everyone that Stafford is a future star. I told everyone that we needed to move to a 30 front versus constantly playing a 40 front. We did; we dominated. I still believe a 3-4 front is the better front for our defense based on the roster. Darius Dewberry and Brandon Miller will be stars at LB if we make the move. Prediction UGA 27 GT 21 We are going to be loaded next year. I’m proud to be a DAWG.

volgrad: Go check UT message boards. The fans are, once again, calling for Fulmer’s head on a platter. So, now that the Sanders change has been made, what’s your explanation now? At least, I’ve not seen a UGA fan with a bag over his head.

Maybe your intent is to come here with “good natured fun”, but go back and read your own posts and see if it comes across that way. It comes across as condescending, ‘in your face’, razzing that, in my experience, is typical of UT fans.

I’ve experienced rude UT fans while attending games in Knoxville. I’ve experienced rude UT fans in Athens. I’m just the opposite of you. I live in UT country…which is probably why I have the opinion of UT fans that you seemingly have of UGA fans. Pretty much anytime there is an SEC game, there are going to be bad, loud, obnoxious fans - on both sides, as the rivalries are so intense.

But the point is you come on our blog with snotty comments and then take offense to what we say. If you don’t like what we say, go to the UT boards.

‘85Vol et al, go get bent! Who CARES what a friggin’ Vols fan thinks after the Silver Britches beat AU?!?!

What a classic UGA/AU game! I know it wasn’t much of a ballgame for those who didn’t have a dog in the hunt, but it was typical UGA/AU—always count on the unpredictable. How appropriate it was for UGA to get their 700th win in a game like that. To all of you naysayers who think that CMR’s bubble had burst and you could stick a fork in him and UGA’s football program, go pound sand…wishful thinking Nerds and Hillbillies.
Are we making too much of one win? No, we have an 18 year old QB who’s growing up before our eyes! If you think this was a fluke-win and that UGA is a mediocre program (what a joke THAT is!), etc. etc. ad nauseum (if you idiots don’t know what that means, well…)—anyway; again, wishful thinking my friends. UT? Woo-hoo! So what about the awesome return of Cutcliffe?!? Big friggin’ deal! You’re one coordinator away from t r u e mediocrity—and you’re pretty mediocre now.

Oh well, enough about puke aringe, and p** yellow….Go you Hairy Dawgs! I was asked by a ‘Tech grad this past week if UGA was going to go 6-6. Uh, “no!” is the correct answer then—and it is now. HDHD, GATA!!!

Great game for the DAWGS! I agree that the big pass early was key. Auburn had to respect the run. Lumpkin got 21 carries and 105 yards. Look at the stats, and you will see that UGA ran the ball at least twice for every time they passed it. UGA dominated in time of possession. This keeps the defense rested and fresh. With a run oriented offense, big time running back recruits will consider UGA. I say pound Lumpkin and Southerland against Tech, then pop the big pass …. I Can’t wait!!!

For anyone who would like to know, our game plan, according to MR, was to pass to set up the run. NOT RUN TO SET UP THE PASS! That’s exactly what happened. How do I know this to be true? I pay the $10 a month so I can watch MR’s press conference after evey game. I posted last week that we would use the pass to set up the run. MR then said that was the way it was in his post game press conference. Again, for a professional break down from the AU side go read the story about Matthew on……autigers.com. They quote Muschamp , the AU “DC”. Why to you think MR has gone to the “spread formation” with 3 & 4 WRs? Spread’um out to open throwing lanes which’ll then open up the run game.

Great win!! Despite the previous set backs verus inferior opponents, it showed today that we definitely have the talent to compete with any team in the Nation. With that said regardless of what we do against Tech and the Bowl game, this year will always be remembered for the two losses against VB and KU.

I expect more growing pains next year, but by 2008 we should be back atop the SEC for the next 4 or 5 years.

It was sensational for all Dawg fans but especially this one living in LA where AU thinks they are King of Football! I can’t tell you how unbelieveable it was to see those motionless orange fans staring at the field in total disbelief. I’m not sure they were even breathing! I laughed aloud as I read the Mobile Press Register and I quote from it: “Brandon Cox threw 12 passes Saturday;the Tigers caught four and Georgia caught four. Wide receiver Courtney Taylor was Auburn’s leading rusher (51 yards). Tra Battle was the Tigers’ leading receiver (with 3 interceptions for 69 yards in returns), which was a bit of a problem since he plays for Georgia.” I love it! I love it! Auburn thinks they are the only team in the country! They got what they deserved and I was there! Thanks Dawgs!

Auburn was terrible yesterday but still better than Kentucky, Vandy and maybe Tennessee. So please help me understand why we played so well yesterday and so poorly against the other three. I’ll buy maturity for a start but I also think coaching and making the team understand the urgency of what is at stake played a big part.(and the staff has to take that responsibility) But let’s none lose site of the fact, these are teenagers and young 20 somethings that have yet to learn life lessons. So maybe, just maybe, these type mistakes will not happen to this group in the future. Let’s beat Tech and recruit, recruit and recruit some more linemen.

By Since 1980 I guess it comes down to how each person looks at the glass. IMO, your way the glass is half empty. If we beat Tech and win a bowl game(which we will), I’ll always remember this season as one of our finest hours. We got beat up, banged up(injuries)and most important of all played with a true freshman who has more talent than any we’ve had on Ag Hill in a loooooooooooooooong time. MR stuck with him as did a lot of the fans and on 11/11/06, the “Phoenix” arose from the ashes and the Dawgs showed what they were made of. I don’t ever remember a team and coach having to go through so much, that’s any team, and rise up the way we did yesterday. As a Dawg, I’ll always remember ‘06 as an example of how a group of Dawgs handled adversity, the ugly put downs from other teams fans and the meaness of some of their own fans to rise again behind their new leader in a bond that was forged under fire. My glass is half full.

b’ham dog lets be realistic shut out calvin come on your whole secondary couldnt shut out calvin the only people shutting out calvin is our team he didnt have big game at unc he wont have big game duke because they dont throw to him agianst sorry teams so before this weekend i thought we might not throw to him agianst uga. So talk about how bad tech is for only beating UNC 7-0. but i hope stafford has on his running shows cause tenuta is going to blitz his pants off i figure the real stafford will show back up and make his final interception number at least 14 if not more. yes it will be a good game with two hard hitting defenses but i do think tech has more talent than uga. both schools have had a great recruiting year but can a real dog fan tell me how CMR as yall caqll him has only recruited one WR and i saw him in action and i will sum him up in two words over rated.

Techies, say what you want, doesn’t bother Matthew and with the rest of the DAWGs, he’ll be waiting at mid-field for you. No body will block your path, just COME ON!!

i really think that this can be a defining moment for this team. if we lose to auburn and we throw ints and our defense doesnt show up than we lose this game and we probably go at tech with no momentum and a 3 game losing streak, as it stands we have alot of momentum and if we can whip gt than that gives us a ton of momentum going into the peach instead of some nothing bowl. that will carry positive energy into the offseason and spring rather than a 5 game losing streak. that can be the differance between competing in the next year instead of the next season.

Hey Seriously,

You could use some English classes yourself. Don’t you know that a dash should be used to separate your “inticed” quote, rather than creating a fragment with that period? The “supremely intelligent” professors at Grady College did teach this UGA grad to write effectively. I would suggest you learn to do so before you attempt to correct others.

Glory Glory! And how glorious it was! ‘Bout time for a good old stompin. I feel so relieved…everyone does. Don’t worry, mark Richt still doesnt know the meaning of a “losing season”…and these dawgs showed such a tremendous amount of pride. So i must say “CONGRATS’ ON STOMPIN THE KITTY-CATS” P.S. reggie ball…let’s keep him at 0-4. P.S.S what is a “losing season”??

johnny hiesmen seems to know alot about college football? he keeps blasting us about out losses to UK and VANDY. But what his dumba!# seems to forget is how football goes in a flow. Sometimes your up and sometimes your down, But its consistency that seperates the great programs. Can johnny name the ONLY other school that has enjoyed our success the past 4 years. We are good, and the win AT Auburn proves it. We will end up 8-4 not bad for a team who lost its way. A leader is emerging, get ready dawg fans if you thought a suger bowl win was fun. CMR is one classy MAN. Kneel down 4 downs, could’ve put 40 on ya.

This has been waiting to happen for a couple of weeks. We were a Brandon Couto away from being 9-2. Stafford can freaking RUN! He had a 9 yard TD run against Florida and ran great against Auburned. He had a couple of long passes to Aj Bryant, who is probably our most consistent reciever next to Mohammed. Another new thing… NO PICKS!!! Stafford will be really good. Hey, 8-4 is the same as in CMRs 1st year. The year after, with a sophmore QB in Greene, went 13-1. So hold out hope, Dawg fans. By the way, who was the idiot who gave Lou Holtz a job on College Gameday? Every time he picks the Gameclowns, and every time they lose. Anyway, remember us, all you UGA haters on College Gameday when we’re sitting pretty in the Fiesta Bowl.
