What do Akron and Spurrier have in common?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The word: Zip.
As in 18-zip.
Spurrier shut out for the first time since he coached at Duke! Defense was awesome.
Pair that with the real beginning of the Matthew Stafford era and you have a big night for UGA.
Can I get a woof woof?
Much more tomorrow.

Looks like Erk pulled off one more. “If we score, we may win, if they don’t score, we won’t lose.”
They never knew you but they played for you tonight, like you were there butting heads. Goal line stands, Erk, the Junkyard Dawgs were there for YOU tonight.

Woof Woof indeed! Hey Gamecockless Gary, see you on the blog next year!
18 ZIP! Matt looked good but we’re going to have to recruit faster runners. No offense to Joe T, but the receivers apparently were used to running slower routes.
Is it too late to recruit o-linemen? With our only sub injured we could be in a very difficult situation this season.

Go Dawgs.
One question: Who the heck is Bill King?
By BirdDawg
September 9, 2006 11:25 PM | Link to this
Everything I expected.
Big plays, strong as hell arm, and yes, growing pains.
But Stafford gives us a chance to win, Joe T never did.
Stafford ran for those two huge first downs. He made some big time throws, throws that Joe T could only dream of making.
He’s a freshman, guys. He will only get better and better and better.
Greene was 8-4 in his first year. I’m saying that Stafford has a good chance of going 10-3, or maybe, if we win the East, 11-3, or 12-2.
He’s that good, and we’re that good with him.
Once again though, everything from here on out will be bittersweet.
Erk, we miss you, and I could feel you down on the field in those two goal line stands. I know that the Dawgs did, too. With those two huge goal line stands, I know they were doing you proud, hunkering down one more, just like your Junkyard Dawgs used to do.
God rest, Erk. You’ve earned it. You and Bear have a beer in heaven, and enjoy the season.

It couldn’t have happened to a slimier piece of crap. Spurrier just had to open his hole and make a remark about hanging 50 on the Dawgs in Sanford Stadium. Well they just hung a big fat ZERO on your a* on your home field! Take THAT, a*clown!!!

I’ll give Stafford the blame for two of his picks (the first one and the last one), but overall, he was fine. He didn’t kill us out there and he made some good throws. As much as I love shutting out Spurrier and as sweet as tonight’s win was, it just isn’t the same with him in Columbia. If that had been Florida we’d shut out tonight with Spurrier at the helm, I’d be flipping over cars and getting arrested.

Hairy, I agree that a win over Florida would be sweeter than a win over SC under any circumstances. But I still GREATLY enjoyed watching Spurrier’s offense continually shoot themselves in the foot. And Spurrier is to blame for a lot of it. I mean WHO tosses the ball five yards deep in the end zone when they start inside their own one yard line?!?! And WHO tries a QB sneak on fouth-and-goal from the THREE YARD LINE?!?! SPURRIER, that’s WHO!! I LOVE watching a 60+ year old man throw a visor like a 6 year old!! HEHEHEHEHE!!

Save the Stafford talk for the other blog. How bout that dawg “D”?
The one time SC goes to a seven step drop they get sacked by Charles. I am so proud of our defense. Our young sencondary is only going to get better. Kelin had some nice pops out there. S. Rice is looking very unsec like. He isn’t even the best receiver on their team. LB’s were fyling to the ball.
The goal line stance was all for Erk.

They don’t know who they were, but the “D” picked just the right time to show what a “JUNKYARD DAWG” is. The Stafford era has begun. I hope Joe Ts’ injury isn’t serious and he can get out of a cast. Tonight, I saw a QB on the field like none we’ve had in the MR era. Yea, he made a couple of mistakes but the key is he didn’t worry about it, he just moved on down the line. He’s a leader and the team knows it. I’m just going to sit back and enjoy the ride. Goooooooo DAWGS!!!!

I gotta hand it to Spurrier. He knew how much the Dawg Nation was talking about his visor throwing. He did all he could to keep from putting his hands on his visor until the fourth quarter. Watching him slowly losing his sanity was as they say in the Master Card commercials, Priceless.

we have a feirce D that has already won us one ballgame this season. Stafford is a beast. A lot to learn, but a lot of upside. with more snaps with teh 1’s in practice, he is gonna have one heck of a freshmen campaign.
He looks like the ideal type of QB that Richt will mold into something really special.

This is quicker than I wanted to throw the kid in. One of the interceptions was on a massive hit on a receiver that put the ball in the air. Or I drank too much watching the game and he screwed up. It was one of them.
CMR just said he talked to the team about Coach Russell and what it meant to be a Junkyard Dawg. Made this old dawg want to cry.

Defense stepped up on the goal line for sure. I was a little disappointed with our pass rush and there were some arm tackling against that cocky a* RB from USC. I wanted to see somebody clean his clock, but he had the lean going. I was surprised Miller and Dewberry didn’t play more. I like our chances as this team will gel as it gets deeper in the schedule.

Hats off to Coutu, who scored 10 of our 18 points.
Having been at the UGA-Florida games in Gainesville and Athens, I rather enjoyed today’s game. I suspect South Carolina will drop off from last year, and possible go into free fall. (Clempson lost, so the state is 0-2 today.)
We get several players back who have been on 2 game suspensions.
Notre Dame’s win today makes Tech look a lot better than I initially thought. Assuming Air Force is weak, the UGA-Tennessee game is totally unpredictable. Colorado lost again, so I have no fear of Coach Hawkins.
Who is rethinking their predictions for the year? I’m still at 9-3 or 10-2.

As an Akron resident, gotta love any love my adopted home team gets! I knew the chix wouldn’t give us any real trouble, but I wasn’t quite expecting that dominating of a performance. However, given how pathetic the chix O looked last week I should not have been surprised. Our D will carry us this year, look for one loss(to Aubarn.)

Spurrier’s offense is over. He’s still a GREAT college coach but, even in college now, defenses put too much pressure on a QB for him to go 4 and 5-wide like he likes… his QBs get their heads taken off. USC still blows… UGA still rules and will dominate UT (nice job against AF)… Dawgs own this conference.. deal with it. :)

Well where do we begin , I can tell you it was priceless watching Cry Baby get so upset with his team not scoreing. I think SOS hates georgia more than georgia fans hate him. He has never forgot when he was a player trying to win it all and than ran into the junkyard DAWGS and LOST. He has had it out for us every since, but know he is not playing for flordia or coaching them. What a big win for the Defense , I think Stafford will play alot better in his next game , but with the defense we have and how we keep them fresh there could be a repeat in Atlanta. WOFF WOOF LOL ERK Russell it was almost like he was there head butting the defense…..

As for revising predictions of a season record, the kid is still learning. He made freshman mistakes. He will probably make some more. But darn he is fun to watch. I hope his hair grows back. I don’t think he is ready for the skin head look. I still look for at least a two loss year but I think we will be fighting at the end for a spot in the Championship at Atlanta. Of course before a game I always feel my Dawgs are invincible. But even Superman had Kryptonite to deal with. This will be a fun year, jump on the bandwagon and come along for the ride.
It was fun being a Bulldawg on Saturday night. It is still great being a Dawg on Sunday morning even if this one Dawg wishes he had UGA’s bag of ice to put on his head.
In 1982 we had a phrase best said away from the elderly, the faint of heart and children.
I SAID WOOF (expletive deleted)
The glory years are back. All you other teams get used to it.
Maybe we could put up a bust of Erk on the Dawg walk and the team could rub his bald head for luck. I would contribute. Anyone else?

i’m a loyal dawg fan but what’s the big deal with beating spurrier when we couldn’t do it while he was a florida.the florida games counted, south carolina? one thing that concerns me about georgia’s schedule is it’s strength.why are we scheduling western kentucky’s & alabama-birmingham’s while we have weaklings in vandy & kentucky.it doesn’t look as though miss.state or ole miss will have much to offer this season.this is why we are hurt with the bcs ratings every year.why not play division II georgia southern home/away each year and get on with sec football.if you need to measure where the teams stands the schedule vandy/kentucky as your second game.they are decades of perennial losers and will continue to be.

If Coach puts Joe T back into the starting line-up at any time, I hope he realizes that 92,000 people in Sanford Stadium won’t be very understanding.
And as much as I wholly believe that Joe T has never had any business taking snaps as the No. 1 QB, I’d hate to hear 92,000 people booing this kid who, even though he doesn’t have a shred of Stafford’s or Cox’s talent, is a damn good Dawg.
But I guarantee that will happen. Even if it is UAB or Colorado, the Dawg Nation will boo Joe T if he is announced as the starting QB, and the kid shouldn’t have to go through that.
But that isn’t why Coach shouldn’t put him out there anymore. The reason he shouldn’t is because Joe T simply does not have the talent to win in the SEC. And that’s the only thing that matters.

Unfortunately, you can’t boo with an asterisk.
The player would be the unintended recipient.
By BirdDawg
September 10, 2006 01:01 PM | Link to this
Bill, I understand you, and I did not say I would, because I wouldn’t.
I don’t boo the players, no matter how much I don’t believe they should be starting or what have you. I never booed DJ, like the “fans” did against the Bugs two years ago.
I just stated a fact.
Joe T will get booed Bill, you know it, and I know it.
What I am hoping to do is to shame them not to boo him.
And Bill is right, even if you’re booing is because of Mark Richt starting Joe T, and not meant for Joe T, it isn’t right.
Still, Coach can avoid this unavoidable situation by going with the obviously more talented QB, the QB who gives us every chance to win, and not just a QB who gives us a chance not to lose.
Like I’ve said, playing Joe T at any point in the game is Greg Knapp football.
You don’t win football games by playing Greg Knapp football, because while you’re so busy trying not to lose (prevent defenses, letting up on offense when you have the lead, etc.) you tend to lose.
Joe T doesn’t have the talent to bring this team back if we get behind a score or two. Matt does. And yes, Matt might be the guy who makes the mistake at in inopportune time because he is a freshman, but as I’ve said:
I’d rather lose with Matt Stafford than lose with Joe T.

I don’t mind too much, booing as the opposing team takes the field. But, any other time is completely inappropriate, and shows a lack of class. It makes us look like trailer trash. I dissagree with booing on principle, but there’s other great ways to show disapproval. I don’t particularly like 4 letter words where many children are present, but the chants of B-S by the USC fans for the fumble that got reviewed and overturned were justified. And if you want to get in someone’s head, there are so many creative ways to do so, without any “asterisk-boos.” The poor homecoming queen would have felt much better if she heard a “fire mike” chant. Or, at least she wouldn’t have felt crushed by boos in her general direction. A few years ago, Tim Couch was the super-star trapped on a Kentucky team. He had a horrible game handed to him by our D and a a light rain, and we had a great chant of “Couch-Boy” going while he sat on the banch with a towel over his head to keep the rain off. That’s the sort of thing that generates a “proper” hostile environment for visiting teams to Sanford, with out looking like classless rednecks to the world.

Maybe it’s that I don’t know as much about this year’s team or maybe the dawgs are just that good. I was as relaxed watching last night’s game as I’ve ever been watching Georgia. Things weren’t perfect but the confidence the team seems to have, especially on defense, showed last night. Danny Ware seems to be coming into his own, hope he gets the ball more often, and the receivers played agressively keeping USC on their heals. Let’s not kid ourselves, Auburn and Florida are going to tough, but they better be ready for a pretty good Georgia team. Thanks for a great game Dawgs.

I wonder how many Gamecock fans fell off the bandwagon Saturday night. One thing is for sure-South Carolina will always be South Carolina no matter who they bring in to lead the charge. It’s all the players you bring in-not the coach. Mediocrity is a lifestyle in Columbia. 9 wins and you’ve done something. I Athens 9 wins gets your fanbase disappointed and worried. In Columbia you feel like you won the national title. All you heard and saw was Spurrier this, Spurrier that. All you saw in Columbia walking to the stadium was “get ready Dawgs” or How ‘bout them Cocks”. How ‘bout them Cocks???????? Exactly. GO DAWGS!!!

I said all along that CSOS should’ve stayed ‘retired’ from college football. I said then, and I’ll say it again: SC is not UF and never will be. Even our beloved fallen hero Erk said that when the right guy lands at FL, watch out…well, he was right and that happened. But when he went to the NFL and got his humble pie there, I figured he was too smart to blow his time coming back to college. It was inevitable to be a step down. Problem is, it was MANY steps down and he can’t overcome it: this year or next or ever. Not that I like UF: I don’t like them any more than the average Dawg; but he achieved great heights there. Better have enjoyed them Evil One! Funny, my father-in-law (a Vol) is always bragging about CSOS and saying he’s a great coach and all that (something about his spending his teen years in East Tenn I guess—vicariously connecting that to “state pride?”). I predicted to him that the Ole Ball Coach would struggle at SC. Maybe we can help remind the Evil One of his Ray Goof comments…hey Steve, who’s lookin’ goofy now? Oh how he hates them Dawgs! Gotta love it!
