It’s not just about football!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Even if you’re one of those UGA fans who pays attention primarily just to the Bulldogs who take the field at Sanford Stadium, you’ve got to be woofing with pride at UGA breaking Florida’s 14-year grip on the SEC’s all-sports trophy!
With UGA having won SEVEN SEC championships this academic year, the program returns to the top, where it belongs. (UGA won the all-sports crown six times between 1981 and 1992 before the Gators ascended.)
Being the conference champ in men’s golf, men’s tennis, gymnastics, women’s swimming, women’s indoor track and women’s outdoor track in addition to football this year is indeed, as athetic director Damon Evans said, a very big deal. Throw in that the Bulldogs won the national championship in gymnastics and are ranked first in the nation in men’s golf and tennis, and you see an athletic program that produces quality across the board (as well as being the nation’s most profitable).
As I’ve said before, they’re ALL Bulldogs and all deserve our support.
Well done!
Woof woof!

4.16 Since 1978 that is the average number of years it takes the University of Georgia athletic department to be found guilty of a NCAA major infractions.

0 is the number of years since GT was found guilty of major football infractions and placed on probation for CHEATING. The really sad part is…if you are going to cheat you ought to at least accomplish something doing so. Otherwise, it just proves you are stupid.

You’re right. Having faculty advisors giving out incorrect advice to student athletes without the athletes knowledge is certainly cheating. Way worse than, say, giving away A’s in clases athletes knowingly never attended, or for violating rules concerning recruiting and extra benefits…you’re right, If it ain’t cheating, it ain’t trying, right? You little mutt…

Congrats to the Dawgs from this Jacket. Anything that makes the state look good is good for all of us.
It’s just frustrating to most Tech folks when the AJC plasters UGA news all over its paper and website. For instance, the hoopla the other weekend over UGA’s two new SEC titles…bet few of you knew Tech won two ACC titles that weekend too…in the same sports…but the AJC ignored us…right in their own backyard…it just gets old…

Bill, Thanks for the change of subject. Actually thank the Bulldogs. Great job! I always try to follow the myriad of sports that UGA excels in. Just another reason to hate us, I guess. Jealous! Why else would we have bees, gators, tigers and war eagles on here trying to put us down.

I will be honest, my chest is puffed out and I’m walking with a swagger right now in regard to Georgia.
I am so proud of the legacy that Vince Dooley left and Damon has cultivated as a pupil of Vince.
I am also very proud of our coaches and I want Coach Felton to know his recruiting is going well and we know that his coaching will have the dawgs in the thick of the sec east title next year.

There is a great song by Nathan Sheppard called “Damn Good Dog” which was written and recorded in honor of the dawgs and their mascot uga. It is a great tune that should be heard by all. Unfortunately, it seems as though the University has filed a lawsuit to prevent its release. That’s a damn shame.

Congrats to Damon Evans and the collection of fine staff, student-athletes and coaches at UGA. The Bulldogs were stellar under Dooley, but have turned it up another notch. The key now becomes longevity and staying clean. The temptation to cut corners is greater with the pressure to stay on top. But Jack Bauerle, Manny Diaz and others have demonstrated that it can be done ethically. And with Radakovich landing at GT, that rivalry is only going to get better in the next few years. That’s a good thing for everyone, including non-sports fans!

Gamecock Fan … it does always seem to rain when we play the Chickens in Columbia.
We usually get two kinds of it. We get the usual water falling from the sky. Then we get all these football raining from the hands of USC players after they get knocked into next week by a UGA defender.

George is right. This is good news for the entire state.
But the AJC is a business, not a news source. Until there are more Tech fans than UGA fans (which will never happen, since there are more UGA alums living in Georgia than there are Tech alums living, period), the AJC will continue to cater to the audience that will make it the most money.
Tech folks have (rightfully) complained forever about the slanted coverage in the AJC and on WSB TV/Radio…they all graduated from UGA…what do you expect?

I am proud that GT also ranks in the top 100 nationally for overall athletic programs. I was a 2 sport athlete while attending GT in the late 90’s, Badmitton and Intramural checkers. I worked hard to balance sports and my GPA. Women were never in the picture for me unfortunately. There was never time. I majored in Nuclear Engineering and graduated in 3 yrs. Something should be written about the other Georgia School and their almost permanent position in the top 100. I’m proud to be a Tech Grad and a current top 10 Chess player in my Laboratories’ weekly competition. Go Wramblin’ Wreck!

Hmmmmm…..I feel love baby! All we hear from UGA is how they just won the commode bowl, toilet bowl, or some trophy from Big Lots. It is all about the little things in life at UGA, and bless their hearts, I can understand it. Maybe they should get a trophy for the “best barker.”
If you want to get petty fine, GT beat AU and Miami last year, while UGA loses again to UF, AU and WV, notice the AU correlation. UGA is nothing than a minor league football operation/factory.
Last time I checked, 4 titles at GT, and only 1 at GT, 1980, much older than GT’s throttling of Nebraska in 1990.

speaking of non-football…..I was just reading that UGA is going to play Gonzaga, Ga Tech, Clemson, and Western Kentucky in men’s basketball in 2006-2007. They are also trying to get Wake Forest in on that too. it would be great to see UGA take on some quality teams again. That last time we played #1 UNC in Athens, they got the bejesus scared out of them. I reckon they thought a sub-par SEC basketball team was not supposed to put up that big of a fight. hehehe. I am hoping that both basketball teams have good years. It is just about time for the Lady Dogs to return to the national title game. It’s been 11 years (1985, 1996, 2007??). They are the 3rd best team of all time according to the AP poll and appearances in 23 of 25 NCAA Tournaments. They just can’t get that elusive national title. We as Georgia fans need to go out there and support them more. Granted they have ALOT more home games than the gym dogs, the Gym dogs average 9,000+ at their meets whereas the Lady Dogs are around 3,000+. Too much winning going on for it not to be appreciated. I love my b*tches :)

Jack, we dont know where you “checked”, but UGA has 5 football national championships, thank you, the last one being undeafeated, undisputed, how about Tech’s. If that is what you meant, as you said GT had both 4 and 1.
I assume you are saying that Gt beating a team that beat UGA, trumps actually losing to UGA itself? How does that work?
We dont quite get the conference crowns and top 10 finishes being petty, explain that again please. Feel free to use GT accomplishment lately as an illustrative aid.

AltamahaDawg, you just closed the case on why you guys have no idea and continue to live in the past. Just FYI, Alabama has 12, Notre Dame has 12, USC 11, Oklahoma 9, etc. Oh, by the way, Miami has 5 outright/clear National Titles, which is all that counts.
Ok, history lesson for the UGA challenged: UGA split with Wisconsin and Ohio State in 1942. The only outright championship was in 1980 against Notre Dame. 1927, 1946 and 1968 do not count, because it was only light recognition. Again, UGA continues to fantasize.
This is not about GT, but about Athens continuing to fantasize about the old days with Vince Dooley, but I recell Paul Bear Bryant tap dancing on your forehead.
You guys have been off the radar screen with Donnan (of a New Era), and Ray Goof for 20 years, and now FSU gives you their offensive coordiantor, and all of a sudden you are king of world. Give me a break! You could not find a coach if you tried.
Tallahassee just appreciates Athens grooming Mark for his forthcoming head coaching job when he returns to Tallahassee. He needed a solid D-II school to get his experience. Many thanks.

Amen on the history comment Ramblor, they love to re-write their own history in Athens.
The real sports god is UCLA, who has more national titles in all sports than any other Division 1 school. Oh yeal, John Wooden won 7 consecutive basketball titles during his run, which I suspect will remain unbroken for a very long time.
Maybe UGA should bring some of their tennis and golf players over to the football team, then maybe they would have a shot at getting past Auburn, or Florida.

Jack Archer, it’s sure nice to see how you’re so obsessed with our state university.
For your information, there are only two national title flags that fly at Sanford Stadium and that’s the 1942 (13 polls for UGA, 13 polls for OSU, 1 poll for Wisconsin) and 1980. So get the facts straight on what the school itself claims.
But if we claimed titles by other schools’ standards we could certainly count all 5. Either way it doesn’t matter. UGA has a fine record of success in football. And since 1998 is amongst the national leaders in overall NCAA titles won.
Stick with facts instead of hatred and you’ll get a lot closer to the truth. Your hatred just makes you look like a weinee without a life.

Dear Titletown:
No hatred here. I will tell you what, you and your little bulldog friends head on down to Sign-Mart and print up whatever you like and stick it on Sanford Stadium. Hell, print 10 or 12 National Titles, because Athens just makes everything up anyway.
The difference between bulldog fans other fans, is that other fans admist when their teams suck, but dawg fans are always in denial. Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery.

Ok gang trivia time: UGA won an SEC title in 1982. How many years passed before UGA won another SEC football title? 20.
It took 20 years for UGA to their program back on track after Ray Goof and the Donnan of a New Era with a title in 2002. Amen brother.
WOW! What a program in Athens. Alabama has 21, Tennessee has 13, and UGA as 12, which is respectable, but again, not good enough.
Like I said before, National Titles are all the count. Oh yeal, just in case you SEC folks are blowing off the ACC, the ACC had 11 first-rounders in the 2006 NFL draft, as compared to the SEC who had 4, none of which contained any UGA players.

Keep it up Jack. You’re only making yourself look worse. I’d like to see some of evidence of ANYTHING “made up” that is recoginized or sanctioned by the University of Georgia. Stun us all with your truth revelations and educate us……… we’ll be waiting.
Who do you root for btw? 12 SEC titles in the arguably the toughest conference in college football isn’t good enough for you? Well darn, Tennesssee must suck too then since they only have 13. Same for LSU, Auburn, And Florida. They have fewer titles than UGA. No, it doesn’t work that way. All of those schools are in the top 20 to 25 of the most accomplished programs in college football. There’s no shame, only pride, in their records. And the same goes for UGA.
Be a man, not a weinee and just admit that you’re an idiot. Or better yet, take me up on my offer and reveal these fabrications of records that you purport UGA to be doing.

I would like to see UGA drop GT from all sports schedules for the same reason that families move to another neighborhood to get away from the ugly and hateful people next door. I think the UGA quality of life for students, alumni, and fans would improve tremendously without the hateful and ugly attitudes that GT people gring to a competition that is no longer healthy.
By TitletownUSA

I know it’s not a popular opinion, but pitbull, I agree. The utter hatefullness of some people who forget the fact that it’s just a game takes a lot of the UGA/GT games for me. They complain about us as fans so much. Yet, its GT that’s often cited in the AJC for throwing bottles, batteries, and even fish at the opposing team’s fans or players. In 2002 at the FSU game, a referee was knocked unconscious by something thrown at him by a Tech fan. And Maryland will probably never take their band back to Atlanta again after what happened to them in 2001.
I just don’t like bringing a woman or small children around that stuff. Too many of them are hateful and disgraceful. Throwing objects and encourage small children to use curse words as they do in their song and cheers is just no way to exhibit sportsmanship.
Besides, it’s a total favor to them to keep playing them. We have zero to gain and everything to lose.
The best way that I can sum up the UGA/GT football rivarly is that a win means very little to me next to beating SEC rivals. But a loss is worse than losing to anyone else.
