UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

Wind will be big factor in Cap One
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
ORLANDO — Greetings from the press box at Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium. Georgia and Michigan State will kick off here in about an hour and a half. It’s nice and comfortable in here where I sit. Can’t say the same for out on the field.
It’s by far the coolest day of the whole week but that’s not the problem. The wind is howling. Pretty much blowing across the field from sideline-to-sideline, as far as I can tell. It could be a tough day for the kickers and possibly for throwing quarterbacks, too.
This is a very interesting matchup. As we’ve discussed, the Bulldogs have most of the advantages on paper. That’s why they’re an 8.5-point favorite. But as was so astonishingly demonstrated last night in the Georgia Dome between Georgia Tech and LSU, bowl games very often come down to motivation.
I think Georgia is pretty motivated. I actually think it helps that they lost to Tech. They might feel they have something to prove. But I definitely think the Spartans will be very motivated. Their fans traveled here in pretty good numbers and are excited about playing in a New Year’s Day Bowl.
As always, we’ll be here to find out. I’ll be blogging throughout the game so hang around and tell me what you think as you’re watching on TV.

Hey Chip
Hope we don’t need a kicker today (PAT’S only) and the wind won’t have any influence on the game. CMR says UGA has tackled more in preperation for this game than it has in pratice all year combined. Maybe they can keep a check on Ringer and hold him to a subpar day. He rushes 30 or more times a game so not much planning on whose geting the ball just making sure he gets tackled. One missed tackle away from beating the buggs in our last game, maybe today we won’t have any of those.
Happy New Year Chip, Thanks for the update

Not sure what you can see on TV but there are a lot of empty seats here at the Citrus Bowl. Not surprising considering the economy, I here it’s that way for most of the bowls except for the BCS Championship, Fiesta, Rose, Sugar and our own beloved Chick-fil-A.

GEORGIA 3, MSU 0
Dogs have to settle for field goal after averaging 13 yards on the first four plays and playing down the field to the Spartans’ 11-yard line. Stafford sacked on third-and-nine. He missed a wide open Kenneth Harris in the end zone two plays earlier.
Blair Walsh bests the 24-mph cross wind and makes the 32-yard field goal with 9:26 left in first.

Why stop with the hurry-up offense during the first drive? The momentum was killed by going to a huddle and we settle for three points. Our recievers are killing us - a deflected catch turned INT and now a fumble. Thank God our defense is playing well. Where did this defense come from? Are we sure these are the same guys? Oh, crap. Spoke too soon. Yet another defensive personal foul penalty to keep their drive alive. Come on Dawgs, score some points.

UGA is painful to watch. I see all the time off and big talk about improvement did a lot of good. Stafford is still inaccurate — threw too far behind and too hard for the INT. Overthrew in the end zone. Crappy play calling in the red zone. What else is new. Another roughing the passer penalty to keep a drive alive. Same old stuff. They lack discipline and that falls to the coaches. If anyone thinks anything will change next year, you are nuts.

HALFTIME: MSU 6, GEORGIA 3
This is a stinker of a game, particularly from Georgia’s standpoint.
The Bulldogs opened the game in a hurry-up offense, ripped down the field, then slammed on the brakes in the red zone and settled for field goal. As far as I can tell they haven’t been in hurry-up mode since, even when they needed to be on that last possession
That said, worse performance by the O-line by far. Spartans are jumping around at the line of scrimmage and apparently have them completely bamboozled. Searels is trying different combinations now. That’s never good.
For whatever reason, the defense didn’t even attempt to block that last MSU field goal. Just stood up right where they were at the snap.
STATS:
Georgia offense 28-118; MSU 39-110
Moreno 9-24; Ringer 14-35
Stafford 6-14-1, 71 yards, MSU QBs 10-17-0, 96
T.O.P.: UGA 10:50, MSU 19:10
Dogs simply look bad.

I think Bobo is OK — Yes, he does call questionable games/plays, BUT so does every other Offensive cordinator. Fact is, UGA has one of the best in the SEC yardage wise, and their scoring isn’t bad —and that WITH all of the boneheaded plays that Stafford makes (i.e. overthrown balls, balls thrown too hard, passes behind players, going for a WR in double-coverage down field for 40 yrds rather than hitting a WR for 12 yrds wide open, etc, etc). Fact is UGA would be better overall is Joe Cox was playing. UGA’s biggest down fall is lack of overall motivation and coaching on the defense, then comes the impact of the hurt players.

2 of the best WRs in UGA history. Both close to 1000 yd season. And ONE stinking pass (over) thrown in their direction. If they are BOTH being doubled, then there should be 2 others open or a HUGE hole in the middle of the D for Moreno to exploit. Ridiculous.

Some things to think about folks…
Searels spends a week talking aith Auburn and the OL all of a sudden looks like crap for the first time in weeks.
Stafford spends time talking with his 2nd daddy former pro scout and he looks like crap for the first time in weeks.
Mich. St. is obviously great on D because they are stopping the run and covering both Mo. Mas. and Green.
Typical 08 Georgia with penalties and lack of execution.
However, the D is playing pretty dang good and thats what we all asked for (me included) so I guess we should be happy; Richt is per his half-time comments.
It is the approach folks…I’ve been saying it for weeks. Mediocrity is accepted from top down.
I though the corner was beiong turned again when Richt showed great emotion after stopping the fake punt, but he jumped back into typical sunday school teacher mold and accepted mediocrity.
How impressive was that awesome 2 minute drill to close the half…out wait, thats right, we gave up!
I’m sure they’ll win, but overall I’ve seen nothing to make me think the overall program approach will change heading into 09.

Somebody tip off the NCAA! Richt and numerous Dawg players (offense and special teams) have bets on UGA to lose. Can there be any other explanation? I have watched football for over half a century. That was the absolute worst offensive bullshet half I have ever seen! Three points against Michigan State? **Damn Michigan State? What the Hell was the punter doing? What the Hell was the offense doing on its last possession. Is it as obvious to everyone else that those give-up throws by Stafford are intentional? I knew the bestard was bad but I did not think he was this bad! Send his heartless a$$ to Detroit. The Dawgs may still win but I am so ashamed to be a UGA supporter right now. Losing with a valiant effort is one thing. This is something damn else. Hope all you guys received great odds on those bets! Sorry defense, this is one time you fellows are going above and beyond the call of duty.

We had 3 timeouts with 3 min after the sack, before states FG. We take 2 to the locker room. I am stunned at the stupidity of that. Reason rest the defense. They could of rested the defense during the timeout, the field goal, the kick off,and the TD drive they should of attempted. WTF! Oh well, GO DAWGS!

If Stafford looks so bad, why would we want him back? I hope the scouts continue to pimp him. I say its time to start over and develop more/different stars. There are no long term contracts in college. Stafford is a good player who’s had his time. Let’s start developing another type of player.
-At a minimum we need… -New Defensive coach -New Special Teams coach -New QB
-If Knowshon decides to go, then new RB -If CMR continues to wallow in mediocrity, then New Head Coach.
Dogs don’t seem to want to be in Orlando.

SOME NOTES:
Dogs’ three points is their fewest in half in bowl since trailing Virginia Tech 21-3 in 2006 Chick-fil-A. They rallied to win that one 31-24 … Nine points lowest combined total since ‘85 Sun Bowl. That one was tied 3-3 with Arizona and ended in 17-17 tie… .
Georgia had four sacks in the first half. They had eight in the Sugar Bowl vs. Hawaii last year… .
Neither A.J. Green nor Mohamed Massaquoi had a catch in the first half.

This game is sadley an indication of whats to come from UGA in upcoming years. The defense has actually played well. The offense sucks. Stafford needs to be benched. He is clearly thinbking about the NFL and by the way, most experts predict Bradford to go before Stafford now. As UGA fans we just have to face the fact that as long as the current coaches are here will will be mediocre at best. I think Aaron Murray will be a better college qb than Stafford easily, but if the same coaches are on hand, they will stunt his growth and we will not win a national championship. Finally, all the major recruits who havent signed yet are looking at us like what in the h* is this. After this game we wont land any major recruit.

Richt is an embarassment. 2 minutes to go and he’s got so little confidence that his offense can get a first down that he lets the clock run down. No wonder the team is so uninspired, it comes from their coaches.
The O-line can’t open a hole for Knowshon so why not put in a fullback to block for him. Knowshon is the only one on the offense with any fire in his belly today. Although since Stafford can’t even get a ball to Massagua or Green it’s not their fault they don’t have any catches.
Michigan State should be an easy win and instead UGA is down at halftime. The only players I see who care are Curran, Allen and Moreno. Knowshon should go pro and get away from this fiasco. Stafford is shooting himself in the foot today as per his pro draft position.

I can’t stand to watch this sh… anymore. We are committing the same stupid penalties and sloppy play that are a testament to a poorly coached team. To top that, Dipsh… decides not try to score before halftime, his excuse “We wanted to try to get a first down to give our defense a rest”?????????????????????????????????? What the HE!!??????? We needed to rest before halftime????? I can’t conceive that any other coach would have done the same riidiculous thing the Dipsh.. just did. Richt just stated in Bradley’s article yesterday that he “rather have started the season #2 than #1…HUH??? He is oblivious to his teams deficiencies and too stubborn to make any changes…GREAT. I suppose that if the game is close at the end and we are trailing by say 4 points, that he will try to run out the clock to make sure his defense is well rested.

This team has problems and they start at the top, I agree with the above, Richt needs to go. But, since that won’t happen, let’s all pray that Stafford goes. This will be a much better team next year with Joe Cox, with or without Moreno. If Moreno comes back (doubtful) with Cox leading the team we should contend for the SEC. Stafford is all arm and NO brains and NO leadership. He won’t play more than 5 games in the NFL. Very nice scoring drive for the Bulldogs — 10 plays, 96 yards, 5:51. TD comes on 35-yard pass from Stafford to Michael Moore on post.
Georgia running a lot of screens to counter MSU’s pressure.
LT Josh Davis had to come out during the drive and they moved Clint Boling back there. C Ben Jones was dinged up early in first half and is playing hurt, too, so O-line pretty banged up.

I wonder if there is some conflict between Stafford and Greene and Mo Mas since there has been two attempts in the entire game to through them the ball….Michigan State has one of the worst pass defenses in the Big 10 so I know they aren’t covering both of them every single play…there’s something going on with this team that we don’t know about….I think it all clears up if #7 (who just through a TD pass, I know) hits the road….he’s not a leader, just a big arm…look at his record, how many Championships has he won…east divisions, none…0…nada. Georgia always does better with a decent QB with a good head on his shoulders and leadership.

Hats off to the defense they came ready to play, although I will say that from appearances Michigan State didn’t have the horses on offense to hurt us. We overwhelmed them for the most point with superior athletes.
I think MS would have a losing record if they played in the SEC. So, that doesn’t really take CWM off the hook. Anyone criticizing bloggers for chewing out GA coaches and players in the 1st half needs to go back and watch the replay. Maybe the sorriest 1st half of the year. At least against Bama you knew they had great players, this team was inferior in every way to GA.

PNWDawg:
Your lover boy JohninJAX…was lashing out against the CWM haters not CMR. Most of the Dawg Nation wants CMR to be living legend in Georgia. But we are ready to see a change at the helms of the DC. Willie has got to go. If our Defense plays plays better in the loses to Alabama (41-30) and Ga Tech(48-45) we might be looking at a 12-1 versus a 10-3 Capital One Bowl Champs…… Georgia ranks second to last in Defense in the SEC.numbers and math don’t lie.

Thank you JohninJAX. You’ve restored some of my faith in humanity. These people are all idiots.

To all the folks who call us idiots. Look at a replay of the first half! Glad UGA won! They damn sure underachieved as they have all season. LSU would have beaten the Spartans worse than they whipped up on Tech. Live with that! Clueless jerks.

JohninJAX —Thank you for your comments. You are exactly right. Those Dawg haters you mentioned writing on this blog claim to be fans but they immature jerks. We do not need them as “so called Dawg fans”. They need to find a perfect team with perfect players and perfect coaches with perfect execution 100% of the time. Then they will still be miserable jerks and probably spew venom about something else.

A good parent isn’t one that loves their kids without correction and keeps saying “little junior is a good sweet boy” when in actuality junior is a brat that needs parents that care enough to address and correct junior’s behavior. Some of you bloggers are obviously terrible parents. I suggest that the fans who really care, are the ones who are wise enough to see the need for change, not the ones who want to stick their heads in the sand and pretend everything is OK.
