UGAUGA

UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Gifts that keep giving

Sorry it took a while to get the blog up. Had an emergency at home that had to be taken care of.

Earlier this week we had a story about the defensive ends, and their lack of success this year. It included what they were doing now to try to make sure they get a few more sacks next year. Hey, of course a few more compared to this year’s total still wouldn’t be much, but at least it’s a start.

That got me to thinking, if you could wish for anything for any of Georgia’s football players, or anyone else in the SEC, what would it be? (Keep it positive; no wishing for injuries or NCAA sanctions)

For example, Georgia’s defensive ends: about a .10 of a second lower speed in the 40, so that they can get to the QBs, or DBs who were a a bit taller, so that they couldn’t get called for pass interference on fade routes downfield.

Or perhaps a blog topic that wasn’t so lame?

Send your thoughts throughout the weekend.

I’d wish for an injury free season. Players that keep their focus for four quaters. Defenders that consistently wrap up. Stafford and Moreno back next year.

…for admitting that this is a lame topic - but, you are a much better man than the regular guy ‘cause he never admits it!

All we need is a tougher minded head coach (that is what Bobby Bowden said about CMR when CMR was named UGA’s head coach, that he did not know if he was tough enough for the job); and, so far, Saint Bobby was dead on!

And, it would not hurt at all for CMR to have a tougher minded defensive coordinator that could instill some nastiness into that side of the ball!

I wish Mark Richt would do what’s right and FIRE WILLIE MARTINEZ!!!

I wish Mark Richt would do what’s right and stop putting the welfare of a friend over the welfare of his program.

Here’s some quick facts about Willie Martinez and his awful showing as Georgia WORST DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR EVER!!!

1) Under Martinez, the Dawg Defense has given up 30 or more points 11 times!!! That is ten more times than BVG ever did, and it stands as the most ever in Georgia’s long history.

2) Under Martinez, Georgia has been one of the most penalized defenses in college football, and this year, they were the most penalized defense out of 119 teams, including having the most personal foul penalties of ANY team.

3) Under Martinez, for the first time ever Georgia not only gave up 40 points twice in a season, they did it three times this season.

Willie Martinez needs to go. He should have been fired the second after the Tech game was over, a game in which he had two weeks to prepare for.

He’s absolutely over-his-head and has done nothing to prove that he deserves to keep his job other than being a close friend of the head coach.

Willie Martinez EQUALS Jeff Bowden.

And just like Jeff Bowden, he is destroying this program with his ineptitude.

And Mark Richt, like Bobby Bowden before him is just plyaing his fiddle while it all burns.

This morning coach Richt was on the Tim Brando show and he explained how the injuries really limited what they wanted and needed to do. Some of the toughness of the team was lost trying to compensate for the injuries and trying not to get others hurt. Any team that loses 19 players to season ending injury is going to feel its affects. I think I would like some realistic fans. Less injuries and yes some DE that have speed and a hunger to meet at the QB. God Bless, Go Dawgs and Merry Christmas Bulldawg Nation!

Mark has the Dawgs trained for schemes and systems. Yes, you need them. The missing links are fire and emotion. Very important in college football. We show up like we would to a dance. Meanness and toughness better become part of this program or we will be stuck at 9-10 wins looking up to Florida every year. I know that sounds unfair to Mark, and Carolina would take that NOW.But………………….We want to play with the big boys or what. I’ve read a lot of other blogs this year. Common theme….Dawgs got no defense. Everyone knows it. willie has one more year.

Another thing I’m sick of:

Dawg fans who are not only satisfied with mediocrity, but who look down their long, pointed noses at those who “dare” to question such things as Willie Martinez’s continued employment and the fact that a very human Mark Richt might, just might be letting his personal feeling interfere with his job.

I wish people like AltamahaDawg took certain facts like defenses that give up 30 or more points more times than at ANY point in Georgia’s history a little more seriously.

I wish people like AltamahaDawg took certain facts like the first time a Georgia defense has given up 40 points THREE TIMES in a season more seriously.

I wish people like AltamahaDawg took certain facts like THE MOST UNDISCIPLINED DEFENSE IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL more seriously.

ALL of those facts points to horrendous coaching jobs.

If we’re running the same system as BVG did, and the caliber of players has been BETTER (so says Scouts and Rivals) for Martinez…

… then the fault for the defense’s performance, and the underachievment of his players fall directly at his feet.

That is logic.

Something I also wish fans like AltamahaDawg possessed.

No, it’s because of fans like AltamahaDawg that teams like Florida and in the future, an aggressive Tennessee team running an NFL PROVEN DEFENSE have passed / will pass us by.

And once again, instead of playing for titles, we’ll be playing for moral victories and 10 win seasons that end in Orlando and Tampa.

I wish fans like AltamahaDawg would wake the frak up and see what was happening around them as Rome burns to the ground thanks to a head coach who refuses to fire his best friend who should never have been defensive coordinator in the first place.

A tailback with the vision, intelligence, and awareness that Knoshown displayed. Maybe it’s just because King and Samuel are still young (god i hope so), but the difference b/w them and Moreno is H-U-G-E when watching them run the ball. I rember a play where the running back got a sweep type handoff following the line outside. I could see the quick up hole develope on TV, but the back did not. Instead he kept running outside and ran out of room for no gain. I rember thinking “thats not like Moreno”. Then as the back got up I realized “ah, thats not Moreno”. It was King instead. King and Samule can run just as hard, fast, and strong as Moreno. In fact, they may be harder, faster, and stronger. It’s Moreno’s ability to know where and when to go that makes him special. It’s really like hes playing himself on the playstation. It’s amazing and only a few people ever have “it”. My wish for christmas is for more tailbacks with “it”.

I would like one blog with no opposing fans for one day because I don’t give a crap what they have to say, so I’d prefer they not take up space. Anyway, I saw some interestin numbers in defense of WM on another blog. I’m not saying I totally agree, but both sides have some points - Here’s what was said:

“Yes, the points per game have gone up each year, but that’s because the points scored in the SEC has gone up each year. In ‘05, only Auburn averaged more than 30 per game. In ‘06, only LSU and Arkansas averaged more than 30 per game. In ‘07, 6 teams averaged more than 30, with Florida averaging more than 40 per game. This year, 5 average more than 30, with Florida again averaging more than 40.” So, yes, Martinez’s defenses have been giving up more points each year — but for the most part, teams have been scoring more each year against everyone, not just Georgia.

“Here are the facts about our defense under Martinez, compared to other SEC teams:

2005: 2nd in Scoring Defense 5th in Total Defense

2006: 4th in Scoring Defense 2nd in Total Defense

2007: 3rd in Scoring Defense 3rd in Total Defense

2008: 10th in Scoring Defense 7th in Total Defense”

I still think I’ll be very quiet at the awards banquet tomorrow night. (Mom said not to say anthing at all if you can’t say anything nice) But, as there are many who say Tuberville should have been given a mulligan for one bad season, maybe WM should get one too.

Go Dawgs!

Here’s an SEC nightmare. Bowl Armageddon, the end of the world.

Bowl Season opens with the greatest Rose Bowl in history. USC and PSU play a classic. The winner kicks a field goal to go ahead with less than a minute remaining 38-35. On the kickoff the opponent drives to just outside field goal range. The game ends with an incomplete pass into the end zone when the receiver is ruled out of bounds. Final AP ranking #1, #2, Final BCS ranking #2, #3

Utah stuns Alabama in the Sugar Bowl winning 17-3. Bama is #8 in the final rankings.

Ohio State takes the Texas Longhorn to the woodshed beating them 28-14 in the Fiesta Bowl. Ohio State finishes #4 in the BCS, and #3 in the AP

In the BSC championship Oklahoma upsets Florida in what many call the worst Bowl game ever viewed. 14-6. Florida is scoreless until 11:09 in the 4th when they score a touchdown missing the extra point. Florida finishes the season ranked #5

Tebow promises nobody in the NFL will play harder than he does to make up for the terrible way he played in his final game.

The AP splits the National Championship awarding it to…………….

Bugkiller, just to be pratical. If the head coach says that he is not going to make any assistant coaching changes, then face it, you are John the Baptist shouting in the wilderness. Your only option is to get rid of Coach Richt. Now I don’t see that happening. You will have to get some powerful alumni with big dollars on your side to get Damon to fire Coach Richt. I just don’t see it happening.

I understand your passion, I used to feel the same way in my college years and early twenties, oh yeah that was my college years. But to me it is something I love, but it does not rule my world. Yes, I am happy with a ten win season. Yes I am dissapointed not to play for the SECC which is my personal team’s goal every year. If I don’t get it, well I never got that pony for Christmas either. My faith, my family, my job are all more important to me than a bunch of kids playing a kids game at the school I attended. Just my own personal opinion. Feel free to have your own. I’m betting he would no longer be “Urban Crier”. Just a gut feeling. Also if you go to ESPN, you will find that Stafford is projected as #1 pick AND before you say that he will return for senior season to avoid being picked by the Lions—-Realize that the Lions probably go winless next season(check out the roster) and knowing the Lions they would not be adverse to drafting QB’s two years in a row OR just wait for Matt. Also realize that all GOOD juniors have been informed of implications of renegotiation of collective bargaining deal which will result in severe loss of signing bonuses and other stipends for rookies. You would have to bea MORON to come back under those circumstances, and I’m assuming Matt is no MORON.

I wish the dawg fans would lose their delusional attitude. A coach that doesn’t have the focus to make it to the show, a quarterback that didn’t live up to expectations - where was that Heisman nomination? A defense that looked mediocre every other week. Get real and drop your superior attitude about any team that doesn’t meet your supposed standards - or, in other words, can beat you like a drum.

And it’s time to give some respect to the Big 12. Nobody’s saying the SEC isn’t a good conference, but it’s down this year. And the Big 12 is hot. So quit sounding like someone’s mama who can’t admit their son isn’t the genius she pretends he is. Live with it.

And learn to live with the fact that FL has a superior coach. He’s gonna spank you most years. And the years you win, you’ll actually think it’s some turning point. Right. Keep smoking that crack and hoping for a miracle. Oh, and Meyre’s not a sleeze, he’s not a whiner, he’s not a hack. He’s a winner. And a pretty good guy, from what I can see. And I’m no FL fan.

Anyone know when the last time Ohio State actually beat Georgia?

Ohio State and the University of Georgia have played each other only once. That was in the 1993 Florida Citrus Bowl and Georgia won 21-14. so blow me hoe.

A NEW DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR AND NEW SPECIAL TEAMS COACH. We’re not going anywhere with what we’ve got. CMR needs to wake up and smell the coffee. If these two make believe coaches don’t have great games in the Awful One Bowl … let them find their on way home and to their next destination. Many Georgia fans are adament about the need for a change. Will CMR listen or will his friendship and loyalty keep the same old same old … it’s time for a CHANGE … NOW!

Will you people ever quit crying and b—-ing? I wish you had been “fans” when UGA was really down and Tech was beating us year after year. But, I was a FAN then and a FAN now because this is my university and I love it. Since many of you are MARTA “alumni” anyway, why don’t you switch allegiances? Alabama and Florida have plenty of room on their bandwagons.

For CMR to express a little fire and anger at the situation (and not just at UGA fans), and say there are definitely going to be some changes (in anything, not just personnel).

Those of you who said we deserved the BCS Championship last year (and I wholeheartedly agree) must agree that we deserve the Weedeater Bowl this year (both assumptions based on how we ended).

My Christmas wish is for a great Bowl game where UGA put’s it all together and comes out with a big win. My hope is for all the Bulldawgs who are playing their last game the highest success at the next level or at whatever else they do. For all our injured players a full recovery and that the players in waiting to get their chance next year turn out to be better than expected when we enter into next season.

All you b*** UGA fans might get your wish, but it might be our OL coach Stacey. Who could blame anyone because of all you turn coat fans. You all are just sicking. And a Georgia Tech fans calling our players thugs. At least they got in trouble for drinking not for raping a girl, but I guess thats okay in your minds and drugs problems too. All of you fans must live in glass house and never did anything wrong, oh you never got caught.

Auburn hiring Gene Chizik, who went 5-19 at Iowa State and 0-8 in the Big XII this season. I guess Charlie Weiss wasn’t available and Tommy Bowden didn’t want the job. That one’s a headscratcher…

lynn, “rivals…. they said UGA had the most disappointing season of all and no one seems to know why”, huh? Stretching the truth a bit arent you. ONE out of 6 panalist (Terry Bowden) named UGA and never made a single reference to injuries in his total inability to think of any factor at all.

In fact, he was the only one out of six to even mention UGA, while LSU, Auburn, Clemson made almost all of thier list.

Replace Willie and Fabris along with the strength and conditioning coach. I would like to see CMR get his indoor practice facility so he can quit whining and making more excuses. Its time to make our boys tough young men like Texas, Florida and Oklahoma.

I didn’t read the earlier posts, but I have to think a real defensive coordinator is on a lot of wish lists. For whatever reason, Willie Martinez can’t get his guys on the same page. It cost the Dawgs big-time this year.

I went back and read the posts. Bug Killer was over the top but dead on. The UGA defense has been underwhelming this past year. If you can’t stop the bleeding, then get another doctor in there who can. Richt shouldn’t have to fire Martinez. The latter should do the right thing and step aside. If this isn’t about egos then everyone should want to do what’s best for the program, right?

Three SEC teams fired their coaches after not being able to keep up with tireless UA Coach Saban. The only problem, it appears the new hires are less capable than the predessessor. Watch out punk Richt, Urban Myere gonna get your punk butt fired soon…LOL!!! #1 in the country…LMAO !!!

Word from Auburn is the UGA assistant HC and former AU alum is about to be hired to put an end to UGA recruting prowess. This will really hurt UGA since he’s been the lynch-pin behind stud recruits at Jawga. Slowly Richts empire is crumbling around him with fans wanting the DC fired and now the strength coach…LOL….Richt better watch his back…Ray Goff and Coach Donnan can tell you how fickle UGA fans are with football.

I would ask two things of the defense. Please learn to tackle and learn how to play with heart. Obviously this is something that the defensive coaches are incacapable of teaching and instilling.

I wish Richt and his fans would give this injury excuse a rest already. Florida actually had more injuries than UGA. They lost the best tight end in the country before the season even started, plus you didn’t hear them belly-aching when Harvin got hurt. Preacher Richt needs to spend less time in the pulpit, more time coaching and less time makeing excuses. He won’t throw his coaches under the bus but he won’t hesitate for a second to toss his players, AMEN!!!!

My Christmas list:

  1. An injury free year
  2. Matt and Knowshon please com back
  3. For fans to leave Mark Richt alone. He knows way more than you about this game and his team. Look at the huge mistake Auburn made after their coach had a “bad year.”

I have a few wishes,1. The dogs would pile all gloves in a pile and burn them and vow not to wear them next year in spite of the rewards offered by promoters.2. That CMR would read the blogs with an open mind. 3. Damon Evans would find a real job. 4. Schedule more easy teams, such as Citadel, Furman, Western Carolina, etc. Maybe that would build up the dogs confidence 5. Recruit no more gangbangers. Thats it! I gave up trying to run off the Off, Def, and Special Team coaches. They would have to find a REAL job where performance mattered.

I wish; For Willie Martinez’s non coaching self to be name the next head coach in waiting at UGA, for Matt Stafford’s inopportune interception throwing self to come back another year, for Moreno’s take me out the game for a five play breather in a crusial drive self to come back another year, and last but not least another beat down from the gators in Jacksonville next year. PS will we ever beat the gators in back to back years again? We haven’t done it since Dooley.
I like CMR for all the things that other head coaches lack and that is a Christian life and full of ethics, but he don’t have the tough hard nose coaching ability to beat coaches like Meyers, Saban, and Spurrier. There is no doubt in my mine that if South Carolina could get better players that Spurrier would probably be still dominant against the dogs.
