UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Another arrest, rain and Dooley’s statue

Greetings folks. Hope everybody had a happy Thanksgiving. I’m still stuffed.

I’m actually enjoying a little off day today but I thought I’d start a new post in anticipation of Saturday’s game. This one will be a potpourri so as to squeeze everything in before Saturday’s noon kickoff for Georgia-Georgia Tech.

Until then, here are the most pertinent issues:

(1) I’m sure most of you guys saw that third-string center Kevin Perez was arrested for DUI in the wee hours of Thursday morning. Fitting way to finish the season. That was arrest No. 11 among for the Bulldogs since the Sugar Bowl last New Year’s. Some of those charges were dropped and all but one were alcohol-related misdemeanors. But there is absolutely no excuse for that many players to get in trouble with the law in one year. And there’s a month to go still!

(2) The Vince Dooley statue and athletic complex dedication is Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. I’ll be there. How about y’all? Anybody making a special effort to get to Athens to see that. And do you feel it’s an appropriate tribute? Does this mean they need not bother to add his name to Sanford Stadium or name the field for him?

(3) Most of you know I’ve been around Georgia athletics a long time and this is about as nervous and concerned I remember the Bulldogs’ fans being about a Georgia Tech game in a long time. Even when they lost those fumble-marred games in the late 1990s the fans were going into the games with a great deal of confidence. Not this year.

(4) According to this morning’s weather report it is a virtual certainty that it will rain at least a little on Saturday’s game (70 percent chance). If so, who does that favor, the option-oriented Tech team or the pass-happy Bulldogs? I’m inclined to believe that rainj actually favors a throwing team because the receivers know where they’re going on their pass routes while the DBs and linebackers have to react on a slippery field. But the same could be said for defending the option I guess.

(5) And finally, who’s gonna win, why and by what score?

I’ll check in when I can today and holler back sometime before kickoff tomorrow.

Wasn’t the “Sanford-Dooley Stadium” issue completely beat to death earlier this year? Do we have to go through that faux controversy again?

Georgia wins, 195-2. Caleb King plays quarterback for the last series and gets sacked for a safety, the Dawgs’ first play of negative yardage of the day.

UGA 35 Tech 31….another defensive stop at the end of the game to preserve the win. Chip-do we know if UGA has any recruits enrolling early this year for spring practice?

I fear that rain pretty much ends Tech’s chances for an upset. A bitter pill for the Jackets, but a good bowl for the Dawgs.

Chip - how come the Perez story is in the Metro section of Friday’s print edition instead of the sports section where it belongs? the story was out on the news wires on Thursday morning, so there is no excuse for not getting in the right section for the friday paper. look forward to your explanation. thanks.

I have wondered about Kevin. He was number 2 center last year behind ‘Nando and I expected him to start this season. Then he gets beat out by a true freshman and finally is demoted to third string. Think about that, as badly as UGA needed O linemen, this guy is third string. The message is clear, players need to make up their minds whether they want to play football or party. How many of ya’ll saw Trae Battle make that tackle for Dallas yeaterday? There is a former UGA walk-on that is earning a nice paycheck in the NFL. He was too small to be a safety at UGA but earned a scholly and a starting slot and none of the 4 and 5 star recruits could take his job at UGA. Why? Because he outworked every one of them! That is the moral of the story, if you want to start at a Div 1 school you have to work your tail off!

No Dooley’s name should not be added to the Septic Tank of the South. I do seem to remember that Vince took the Auburn Job for a split second many years back, like Cremins. Well, it is great to see that Dawgs Football will be double digits in something this year. This is a very undisciplined team and you should fear TECH even in the rain. The Yellow Rags will fly against UGA again this week. GT 17- UGA 13 or GT 21- UGA 17. Paul Johnson will be the Coach Riding on “LIVE” Shoulders this Saturday.

Not to celebrate too early, but if we win, we will have the same thing to say after we beat FSU earlier this season…..IT’s ABOUT F’IN TIME!

What will you have to say if you lose for the 8th time in a row? The logical answer is absolutely NOTHING, but the key word there is “logical”. That’s the part that seems to trip up Tech fans. For such a supposedly smart group of people they sure can be thick headed sometimes.

As I have said several times before, This team lacks “on field” leadership. All these DUI and misconduct arrests are more of a reflection on a lack of respect of themselves vs. CMR and staff. Stafford and Moreno are great athletes and Bulldogs but have not stepped up and taken charge of this team. That is one of the major differences between FLA and GA. TEBOW is a gifted athlete and leader! Leadership is an intangible that all great teams possess. Unfortunately, the 2008 DAWGS appear to be lacking. But, they can still be TECH, IF they want it badly enough. We will know in 24 hours.

I’ll start the trash talk. I’m sick of seeing the techies talk all their smack about how they rocked a POS Miami team on a bad day. They get one good win and think they are NC contenders. I can’t wait until tomorrow. You tech fans want to talk about the most points scored on UGA in sanford (hot topic of discussion in nerd blogs)? Lets talk about the most points ever scored on GT. I’d be willing to bet that with two weeks of of practice that UGA comes close to putting up a record amount of points on Tech and holds their “perfect option” to less that 21 points. I am by no means telling you to not get your hopes up for this game tech fans. It will just make #8 even sweeter. I’ll be back after the bug romping tomorrow. Toodles

Georgia Fan… what WAS all that jibber jabber?! I’m tickled by your ‘use’ of the word ‘logical’! First of all, your post reads like a one sided conversation with ones own self! You know? Ask a question, THEN answer it for yourself… who DOES that?! Logically, i suppose YOU do! If tech loses, we could say things like, “Wait til next year’, ‘Good game’, ‘REALLY hate the dawgs, NOW’, ‘Merry Christmas uga’, ‘Pass me another burger’, etc…. Listen, I don’t want to get ugly or anything, but it’s ok to ‘talk’ to yourself- it’s NOT ok when you LOSE the discussion with yourself! GO TECH!

I am so sick and tired of the absolute garbage that Desert Dawg just wrote. Stafford and Moreno have done everything within their powers to help this team win this year. To put everything on their shoulders is absolutely absurd. The defense has played horrible all year. What are Stafford and Moreno to do about that? Please answer the question. The offensive line has gone through so many line up changes I’ve lost count. Again, what are Stafford and Moreno to do about that big guy? Again, please answer the question. Look dude, the team just wasn’t that good this year. That’s all there is to it. Please spare me all the emotional psychobabble about “leadership” and “taking charge”. Give me a break. Stafford and Moreno are two of the best Bulldogs ever and you should thank your lucky stars we had them in the first place you ingrate. Its a shame they’ll probably leave here without tasting a championship but that’s the way it goes sometimes. If you haven’t noticed there 19 other starters and 100 something other guys on the roster. Its a team game bro. Get a clue.

I agree that the number of UGA players arrested is WAY too high. But, a college-age young man with two hanging that gets in some alcohol-related trouble. That certainly doesn’t make them “thugs”. My old man and I did it a century and a half-a-century ago, and we turned out OK. Ask our Tech employees.

I grew up watching the Dawgs and all the Dooley years at the helm. I am thankful that he is being recognized, however expected more than an offsite location. Since it is a bit off the beaten path wouldn’t it be nice to do something to help generate extra notoriety and attention. I think it is only right that michael adams be also included at this holy ground Mecca. I think it would be appropriate to have a minature bust of him behind and underneath Coach Dooley’s derrier. Then he too would froever have his place in Georgia football folklore.

We can hardly do enough to honor Coach Dooley. I hope the statue is an artistic masterpiece.

The Dawgs are gonna whup Tech badly; it’s gonna be pitiful. Nesbitt’s gonna look like Ball.

Chip: I’m really sick of you and your colleagues bringing up and harping on the possibility of Moreno and Stafford leaving early. Every time you quote them they say it’s not on their minds; better things to concentrate on, etc. Then yall write another story about it. You pundits can be a PITA. Another fer instance is the NC preseason talk. NONE of that came from Dawg Nation; well, not true Dawg fans. It was all writers and the stupid pre-season and early polls and pundits; NOT the fans. Or, the other day, Schultz doing a what if about Paul Johnson coulda been our coach. I hope we’ve seen the last article about Moreno and Stafford possibly leaving early! Wait til January, please!

DCJacket would be very disappointed in all of you bugs on the Chip Towers blog. (Apparently, we aren’t supposed to visit each others’ blog pages). Get off the arrests, already. These are still “kids” we’re talking about. The only difference between them and most of us is that we never played D-1 football and our police blotters do not make headlines at the AJC. I don’t have a police record, but my record for “lucky breaks” is long, indeed.

Chip Have you given any thought to having a “mea culpa” blog for after the game? I sure have seen a lot of pregame gloating by the N(t)erds lately. Same for the Dawg fans. It would be funny to see who actually steps to the plate (keyboard)after the loss, in my opinion.

So one more went “galooting” before the end of the season. He who didn’t drink booze in college throw the first stone. Otherwise, keep your trap shut about Perez. What about you Chip? Did you ever drink illegally/legally in college and make mistakes to boot? How about you stone-throwers fessing up before you start bloggin’. Then I’ll read what you have to offer. Otherwise, and I’m asking all Dawg fans to follow suit, don’t expect anyone to read your hypocritical bs. Just skip the posts whenever anyone wants to diss the Dawgs socially. Chip, I’ll bet you were the first one in line for rush looking for the hidden drinking place in each frat house. I’ll even bet you were a party animal and you don’t want Furman Bisher sniffing around your desk…oops, that’s right!…you don’t have a desk there do you? Sincerely, we are going to miss you like a case of the flu we wait on each year. C’mon Chip, your year is almost over. How about a flamin’ confession column to blow out on? It may get you the highest response article of all time in the AJC. Drop a tidbit on the other writers on your way out so that we may have something to recall and laugh about next year. We surely would miss you if you dropped a “dime” on some jerk who assisted you on the way out. And we wouldn’t have time to castigate youngsters that make mistakes. We could show that oldsters also make mistakes, only worse and more hypocritical. Just say another kid was caught for “galootin’” like you and others do each day for a living on these pages.

There are a few factors in the game.

1) Penalties: Georgia is 119th in fewest penalties, while Georgia Tech is 24th. Advantage: Tech

2) Weather: Rain will slip up the triple option a bit and mess up a few routes; weather will probably cause more turnovers on both the red and gold sides. Advantage: Georgia

3) Running: Moreno and Dwyer are the highest-regarded backs in their conferences, and because of that, both will be targeted by the opposing defense. Tech’s advantage? They’ve also got Jones, Cox, Nesbitt when he runs… Advantage: Tech

4) Passing: It’s pretty much Green against Thomas. Here is Georgia’s advantage; Stafford has a good connection with Green. Advantage: Georgia

Overall: I think Tech has an advantage in this matchup, but calling a close game. Tech 35, Georgia 31

Okay GTinMD: 1. Yes, tech has the penalty advantage. Nobody can argue that 2. Yes, UGA has an advantage in the rain because tech is much more vulnerable to fumble the ball, especially when it’s raining and wet. But it is only a slight advantage. Remember UGA relies a lot on the pass game and it’s much more difficult to catch the ball when it’s wet. So, if there is any advantage it will go to UGA but i don’t see it being that much of an advantage . 3. No, you are wrong. This should be a draw. While tech runs the ball very well UGA is very good at stopping the run and has had 2 weeks to practice against the triple option. Another thing is that UGA not only has Moreno running the ball but UGA also has a very dependable pass game which opens up the run game. This is a draw or maybe a very very slight advantage to tech. Keep in mind tech has not seen a run defense like this or as fast as UGA’s. Curran may very well have 30 tackles by the end of the game. 4. Yes UGA has an advantage here. A very very very big advantage. You mention Green. Do you follow football? What about Masoqua? I would just like to point out Mosaqua is second in the SEC in receiving next to green. MARK MY WORDS UGA WILL HAVE A HAYDAY ON TECH’S SECONDARY!!!
My final notes on the game is that Tech can win this game but they need to 1. Not fumble. Even one fumble can cost Tech the game. 2. Play very disciplined football on the o-line. 3. Continue to apply pressure with their D-line. 4. Ask god for a miracle in regards to their secondary.
All in all i don’t see Tech beating UGA i can only see UGA (CWM) beating UGA.

I was thinking about this great game tomorrow and it brings back so many memories. I remember when I was a kid and My parents would have a party for the game. The Ladies would be in the house and the men would be roasting oysters in the back yard. Much brown whiskey would be consumed back there and the qame would be on the radio. My Dad would break up a tussel between a UGA fan and a Tech fan, “Ya’ll go home! I am not having that around My kids!” In those days everybody in the state of Ga was a UGA or Tech fan. I remember being in Athens when a wealthy friend {UGA fan} lost his shoes to his banker {Tech Fan} on a bet and walked around the bar of the old Ramada Inn in his socks all night. MoDawg, Huh?, Alt- Nice to see the sentinels on duty. Before “they” take Chip’s computer, it would be nice if some of these young whipper-snapper writers would hunker’ down and give us some fodder for next year for returning writers and lay off college kids.

MoDawg- I was the recipient of “lucky breaks” also and still had my license suspended for 3 speeding tickets in one year. If some of these people read some of the lore from years gone by and experience some as well, there would be more empathy from some of these people about a college kid drinking. Anyone remember Dean of Men, Tate? He self confessed to riding a horse into a dorm(?) as a student. Another time a flaming piano was pushed down the hill on Lumpkin St.. A kid drinking? Never heard of it, just like some of you jerks. I confess that during my college days, many “good citizens”, some of whom you have elected to public office, would have been thrown out by this student conduct court at UGA today. The biggest concern from most guys in the “Good ole days” was if their frat was going to be thrown off campus for continuous drinking violations!

Honest truth. I attended UGA fulltime for a Master’s degree, but caught a course there in the summer for Chemistry as an undergrad. The school that I received an undergrad degree from found me guilty of LEADING A RIOT! The Dean’s VW was carried up two flights of wide stairs and left on the second floor of the Admin. Bldg. A 4’x 8’ sign “Danger—Low Flying Aircraft” was implanted in the middle of campus, several dorms experienced “panty raids” egged on by some of your mothers, 4 palm trees went up in flames, numerous cars were misplaced by the next morning and found unharmed over the next few days. All that I was doing was leading a pep rally that got out of hand. I was called out of my major prof’s class the next morning and asked to come to a disciplinary hearing at the Dean’s Office. Seems I had been named the ringleader by several people. The Disciplinary Committee was none too sympathetic (Much like the way we are toward galooters) but for the Dean of Academics who pointed out a good average in Biological Sciences that I would graduate with in several months. I got disciplinary probation until graduation. Think any kid who plays football in college could expect that treatment nowadays? Since it was not of academic probation, my parents never knew. Nowadays, if I played Div-I football, what do you think my family would feel like if it was emblazoned in natl. headlines(and it would be)? Lay off these kids, folks, unless you of course never made a mistake of getting caught.

Me and Dwire combined are going to rush for 600 yards and i will pass for 2 yards. This will be a season high for us but it won’t matter because my dumb@$$ will fumble the ball at least 12 times. 3 of which will be returned for a touchdown.
We will then proceed to go home and cry about losing to UGA once again.
After we wipe away the tears we will then bid farewell to Coach PJ for he will be fired immediatly after losing 65 to 3 to UGA.

Oledawg………..that’s funny…..I didn’t know you knew how to lead a riot……lol………I went to military college in the hills of north ga…..back in the early 80’s…….we were on a company outing and me and some buddies of mine decided to shoot my .22 rifle at this pond. There just happened to be some mallards on the pond, but we were shooting away from them. One of my stupid friends, picks up a rock………heaves it towards the ducks and kills one of ‘em….luckiest throw I’ve ever seen. What I didn’t realize is this pond was part of a National Park…..bad move………about the time he killed the duck……..the park ranger had been called for the gunfire…..and we hauled a$$. He knew we were from the college and tracked me down by the make of my truck……….I got called into the Commanders office the next day and dam near got expelled……….took me 2 hours and the threat of an autopsy on the duck to plead my case. My dad never found out……….and that worried me more than anything. We got put on probation and had to replace the dead mallard with 3 more. Needless to say, I was more than happy to do it.

And I’m not even going to go into the drinking episodes……on….and off campus………man………if those things would’ve been plastered in the paper……….half of the guys flyin jets today would’ve never made it.

You don’t really have to get so mad at most of us……….we’re the old guys who have learned life lessons and don’t feel the need to berate other teams every time we post.

You guys look good this year and I, as a few of us……..are a tad bit concerned seeing how our stupid defense has played. If Tech wins………it won’t be the worst thing in life……..if GA wins….it won’t be the best thing in life. I’m glad you guys are pumped for this game……….cause I want to see the absolute best effort by both teams. Win or lose……..I’ll still be here/

“Absolutely no excuse” for Perez’s actions. You tell em, Chip. Way to lay down the law and really hold the Dawgs accountable for their actions — and mention the fact that some of the charges have been dropped beforehand. Eleven arrests is inexcusable, even to this Dawg fan, and your constant apologizing for every misstep is even more inexcusable. Homer suckup

Simple question: Would UGA player behavior be different if Paul Johnson were the coach instead of Richt?

Curious to hear the responses. Most teams have a healthy fear and respect for their coach such that they don’t cross the line as much as UGA players do. Eleven arrests? Almost seems low, cause I feel like I read something in the paper once a week. What’s the reason why UGA has all these problems and Tech and many other programs don’t ? Yeah, yeah, I know the occasional arrest occurs at every school, but it is commonplace at Georgia. I don’t think Richt disciplines the kids at all… hence the continuous problems off the field as well as on (personal foul penalties). Of course, a bunch of dawg fans with little or no education will rip me for this post because they don’t care how games are won.

I have always rooted for Tech and Georgia because I am proud of the kids that come out of both programs… but I must say that I am always more impressed with the Tech kids. And now, it is getting harder to root for a program with so many discipline problems.

as far as richt and discipline goes…

i have to look at who his mentor was.

bobby bowden.

for some reason i feel that the dawgs worry more about losing a star for a game than say a team like gt.

once the ‘being lenient’ boat has sailed it is awfully hard to put that boat back in the harbor.

all year long uga has had much more to play for than gt and i am sure the pressure to win them all is enormous. this has to affect the decision making of the coaching staff too.

on the other hand gt had few expectations for this season. couple that with a whole lot less stars and i do believe that cpj would say see ya to those players that acted like dawgs.

besides cpj coached at navy. navy is not noted for being a slacker wrt discipline.

just my half sense worth.

here is hoping for a clean hard fought game with no major injuries.

T, let’s call it like it was—Jan Kemp was a psycho who wanted money, fame and revenge for some delusional slight she imagined she had. Vince Dooley is a finer person than she could ever imagine being even when the Thorazine is working. There is no character/ethics problem with Dooley.

Pi$$onadawg, sounds like you’ve got “Jan Kemp disease.” Take your antipsychotics, please. You’re giving the rest of us a headache.

I’ll echo the calls for a clean, hard-fought, injury-free game above all else. Even if the streak doesn’t end this year (and I hope it doesn’t), Coach Johnson has brought the rivalry back to a more level amount of mutual hatred and respect than we’ve seen in a while. And even with a loss, this season’s would not be the beginning of the end for Coach Richt by a long shot. This has been a disappointing year in some respects, but a ten-plus win season and a New Year’s Day Bowl game (both for the sixth time in Richt’s eight years as head coach) are records that any Tech fan would be glad to have. Next year, with a slew of returning starters and/or players back from injury, as well as yet another top-10 recruiting class, the Dawgs will be back in contention again.

One case of Miller High Life cold. Two shotguns with plenty of shells. Three blankets to wrap around the top metal walls of the third story deck. One instant swallow blind.

Lay low, couple of pulls off the bottle, then chug a beer. Here come the swallows, bang, bang, bang. Lay low. Never hit a single bird and the cops went up and down Millidge and never figured out where the gunshots were coming from.

I cannot condone a DUI by the players at any time.

I can understand these college kids enjoying a beer during the off season and think they should be careful not to get caught. (Such as being downtown or in a visible public place)

I cannot understand any player drinking 48 hours before the Tech game, period!!!

That episode speaks volumes about what is wrong with this season. I know it is only one player and I also know that 90+ per cent of the team has been focused all along. However, he is a player, he does dress out, and he does impact the team. That said he should be dismissed indefinitely until he earns his way back.

C’mon, boys! Yes, and I mean “boys” because your behavior off the field this past year clearly indicates that, as much as I love and support you as ‘dawgs’, you have not matured enough to realize how embarrassing it has been for the school and your fans. But the one who really needs to MAN UP is Coach Richt. God love ya’, Coach, but you need to own up and buckle down this off season. Your job includes turning these boys into men, and as happy as I am about the wins on the field, the trashy behavior off the field negates it. And it is spilling over onto the field, too, where other schools don’t fear us as much as despise us for our unsportsmanlike behavior and show-boating. Of all of this year’s disappointments, the two biggest ones were the numerous arrests and hearing your denial of the discipline problem again and again. Please, leave your U of Miami ghosts behind, and become the truly Georgia MAN we know is in you. We love you, but we need to respect you and the team again. Go dawgs woofwoofwoof

UGA ADMINISTRATION & FANS SHOULD CENSURE COACH RICHT for the recurrent discipline problems off the field. Of course no one wants to fire him, but if he is the kind, Christian soul he is portrayed to be, then he will accept the censure, admit his fault, and then turn it all around. Players need to be reminded they represent more than their own selfish interest.

You guys need to lay off Coach MR. The players this year are no better worse off the field as any others. It is true that Coach Dooley (who we honor tomorrow) was much better at keeping the cops quiet when his players were caught having a good time, but they were no more angels than todays. The cops and local press needs to remember who pays their salaries and who gets them all that weekend OT pay, and lay off the players. Don’t let them (or fans) drive drunk, but don’t make a Supreme Court case out of it either. Call the Athletic Dept. and take’em home to sober up. Let the whiny North Ave crackheads sing all they want about drinking whiskey, our guys can really do it.

How silly. As long as we are winning, we don’t need to do anything with Richt, but let him keep working his magic. The dui’s are an anomaly this year, and most charges were dropped and no one was hurt. If we start making Coach a babysitter, he might start seriously looking at some alternative employment. We need to get a Natl Championship out of him before we let him go, so let’s support him. The Dawgs will absolutely whip the Bees tomorrow, as they have every year under Richt, despite all the talk of upsets, etc. The rain is on our side, and our level of competition has been so much higher than theirs. They nearly lost to GardnerWebb, for godsakes.

Amen! My biggest disappointment is that the misbehavin’ players got caught, the university couldn’t cover it up, and the cops have acted so self-righteously about it all. College kids will be kids, and if no one is hurt bad, let ‘em be. The bottom line is we have the best record in the SEC since Coach has come here and after tomorrow we’ll have beaten the bugs 8 in a row. We almost beat Bama, and no one can beat Fla now, or else we’d have met the preseason picks. 11 wins and a nice bowl trip heals all wounds.

I think both sides talk alot of trash and as far as i’m concerned, i don’t understand why tech fans are talking any?? we have to beat uga once in a blue moon atleast. uga has better players except on the defensive line, but we dont play this on paper! we havE 3 freshman in the secondary and 2 offensive starters on the o-line out and a injured qb trying to run the option against uga? tech returns 17 starters next year, so tech fans our time is near but not this year and the weather with all the fumbles we have had, is not in our favor. i dont want to lose 8 in a row, but uga has the upper hand still and are at home! tech will have to hope the dogs are sloppy and we have to manage this game without turnovers to have a shot at the upset. we can win, but the weather will be a huge factor and doesn’t FAVOR an option team. tech fans, let the the uga fans say what they want! they have beaten us 7 straight and we would likley throw it in their face if it were us whipping them. we have to go out and get it done on the field!! until then, it remains an ugly series. paul johnson has us going in the right direction and i believe uga fans see that we will be a better team under johnson. our time will come! remember, we have 17 freshaman and sophmores starting! this youth will make it tough to beat uga on the road! the future around the corner is bright at gt! GO JACKETS, AND LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT GAME WITH THE DAWGS IN ATHENS!

Jerrard Tarrant, who was going to be Georgia Tech’s Starting Cornerback for Paul Johnson this year, is out on a $40,000 Bail for Rape. I see another arrest is made of a Bulldog Football player. In half of the arrests of UGA Football players after the end of last season through this Thanksgiving Day Weekend, the charges against them have been dropped. The arrests do not include any Rape Charges.

Georgia Tech in 1998 ended up Number 9 in the Final AP Poll and UGA Number 14. In 2000, Georgia Tech ended up Number 17 and UGA Number 20. Georgia changed it’s coach over it.

Tech went on NCAA Major Infractions Database Football Probation for George O’Leary Academic Cheating playing as his best 11 Football Players, players who not a 1 would have been eligible to play anywhere in America and Lost 6 Football Scholarships for the Duration of the Chandler Gailey Era at Tech.

Since 1997 UGA has been ranked in the Final AP Polls.

Since 2002, Tech has not been ranked any year in the Final AP Polls.

Starting in Coach Richt’s 1st year, 2001, Tech has not been ranked ahead of UGA in any Final AP Poll and only 1 of these past 7 years has Tech been ranked at all. That was 2000 when Tech ended up Number 17 and UGA Number 20.

In the down ACC this year, Tech seems destined to play a far better football team than they are in their bowl game because the ACC just doesn’t have any top-ranked team or teams at all while The SEC finds that Alabama is Number 1 in the AP Poll, Florida is Number 2 in the AP Poll, UGA is Number 11 in the AP Poll and Ole Miss is moving way up from Number 24 prior to their 45 to Nothing thrashing of their opponent this Holiday Weekend in the Egg Bowl.

South Carolina seems poised to rejoin the rankings as well.

Meanwhile, every week for the last 6 Consecutive Weeks every ranked ACC team who played a game, Lost and dropped out of the rankings.

Will Georgia Tech be ranked in the Final AP Poll for the 1st time in 7 years ?

Will Georgia Tech be ranked ahead of UGA in the Final AP Poll for the 1st time in 8 years ?

When is the Court Case for Jerrard Tarrant charged with Rape as Georgia Tech’s Starting Cornerback for Paul Johnson this year ?

Will the Loss of Jerrard Tarrant, out of Jail charged with Rape on $40,000 Bail, cost Tech its ranking, cost Tech its game and be shoved under the rug like it never happened as everything is at Georgia Tech ?

The way to keep 11 kids from being arrested this up-coming season again, is to state them NOW that if you are arrested, you Lose your Scholarship at UGA until such time as you are found Not Guilty.

The other part of it in the off-season is the 18 kids injured in Camp, lost for the entire season this season.

It leaves our team scrambling for a set line-up, and there is no doubt that there is a correlation between the number of players lost to injury and to suspension, and our woes in being penalized, when every day for the entire year starting since the end of last season, either one of the 11 were arrested or 1 of the 18 were injured and lost for the season. We stay in the bad press.

These are recurring themes that have left us finishing in the Coach Richt Era in the Final AP Poll :

Number 22 in 2001 Final AP Poll.

Number 3 in 2002 Final AP Poll.

Number 7 in the 2003 Final AP Poll.

Number 7 in the 2004 Final AP Poll.

Number 10 in the 2005 Final AP Poll.

Number 23 in the 2006 Final AP Poll.

Number 2 in the 2007 Final AP Poll.

Number 13 in the 2008 AP Poll before this morning’s game against Number 18 Georgia Tech.

There is little comfort to UGA fans that Tech has finished ahead of UGA in the Coach Richt Era in the Final AP Polls starting 2001.

There is little comfort to UGA fans that Tech has its Starting Cornerback Jerrard Tarrant charged with RAPE and out on $40,000 bail when we have 11 arrests since the end of last season and 18 lost for the entire year this year due to injury, dropping like flies from the 1st day of Camp this year.

And, if you play for UGA and are arrested - You MUST LOSE YOUR SCHOLARSHIP to UGA until such time as the charges are dropped or you are found not guilty.

If we end up as Number 13 this season in the Final AP Poll, as we are today, this gives Coach Richt a double-digit average finish in the Final AP Polls.

10.88

Number 11 in the nation therefore average ranking for Coach Richt’s entire 8-season record.

I presume you know that Number 11 is NOT that good ?

1 poster here the other day mentioned that Florida is Not Ranked 1 year and National Champions the next. Which would you prefer, he questioned.

Frankly, there is no comfort from being ranked consistently Number 11 in the Nation.

Sorry.

29 Players missing games because of arrest and suspension or injury in 1 year. No wonder we are right where we are consistently in the Coach Richt Era.

I want some changes.

HaHaHa!!!!! I just called the brass and confirmed. He’s gone. Still not even a single link of the rumor. Only the most inside of insiders know about Richt’s new coaching job in Greenland.

Dorks.

I don’t know…

Paul Johnson who has NEVER beat a Final AP Poll Top 25 team, ever, with his offense - has led the nation in fumbles every single solitary year.

Rain will make it even harder to hold onto the ball on pitches.

As for us in the rain, we have proven that it is easy for us to pass in the rain.

As for the AJ-C quoting Tech this morning saying UGA does not have a Defensive Line, that is beyond reason.

UGA’s Defensive Line will kill you.

What we don’t have are Defensive Ends.

Haven’t had 1 of those DE or a Tight End all season long.

But we have a great Defensive Tackle rotation.

Score prediction: 27 - 17. I just don’t know which team will have which score! It depends on which DAWG team shows up to play. If their heads and hearts are right, then we will. If not, we lose!

  1. “…UGA fans more nervous than I can remember…” Which fan did you interview? 2. I hate that it’ll be raining because there’ll probably be fewer people at the Coach Dooley statue unveiling. 3. GTinMD…good post; but the only ‘advantage’ in the running game Tech has is that yall run the ball 95% of the time; therefore, you’ll have more run yards, probably. Conversely, Tech will fumble more; thus, the Dawgs score more off turnovers. A balanced attack is coming at the Bees. Overall advantage: Dawgs. 4. “…CMR needs to discipline his players…” Duh, he suspended Perez. Every ‘major’ infraction under CMR has resulted in suspension at the minimum. The campus police and Athens police have more personnel than in the past and are WAY more apt to ‘spill the beans’ as it were. And writers (Tucker, Towers, the Red and Black) love to ‘report’ on infractions by athletes (it’s more like ‘tell on’). 5. OleDawg and Zeb; would’ve loved to have gone to school with yall! Zeb, did yall replace the duck with three more from another park pond; and with duck ‘caught’ with rocks upside the head o’ those duck? 6. Sure Johnson has brought tech along fairly well. But to say we’re nervous; I dunno. Maybe we’re more respectful that they ‘can’ beat us IF we throw INTs and have 9 penalties; and IF we kick 4-5 FGs instead of TDs. Otherwise, the Dawgs preVAIL! Sic em Dawgs!!!

It’s Brannan Southerland; not Brandon.

Does anyone else hate Gil Tyree on the post-game Dawgs show as much as I? What an idiot sometimes! I guess not too bad on his daily sportscast; but for covering the Dawgs, he sucks big time. I’ve heard him say ‘brandon’; ‘stanford stadium’. And he asks the most inane and asinine questions. EG, to ANY player, “…was this win an atonement for failing to win the NC…?” “…Is this payback for the defense playing so poorly most of the year…?” ad nauseum

With the weather this game’s likely to be sloppy - balls laying on the ground, slippin’ and sliddin’ around, dropped punts, passes, pitches, and likely low-scoring. As such it could go either way.

As for being nervous - first of all I’m always nervous about a Georgia game - but for those of us that watched and admired Tracy Hamm run this offense we know what it can do in the right hands. The Nesbitt kid is no Tracy Hamm and even Hamm was limited in the rain.

And lay off these kids. There’s not an under-age, undergraduate in any college in the country that hasn’t gotten drunk, or at least had a drink…other than those that have some religious thing going. That, along with the Athens police, as has been pointed out above, are far more tough on students today than in years past and don’t give a football player any slack at all. Lay off Richt, he’s the best thing that could have happened to Georgia, other than gettin’ rid of Michael Adams, and we’ll be lucky to have him for a coupla decades.

Dooley spent most of his life at Georgia and has been very generous with his donations as well. Talking about how to honor a man like this does not get old. It should be discussed. The stadium should carry his name. As long as Michael Adams is there…Dooley will not be properly recognized. When Adams moves on…Dooley will get his just reward.

What else is new with UGA FUUUUTBALL. A couple “At Leasts” for UGA.

At least UGA is #1 in the Country for Player Arrests this year…congratulations UGA.

At least UGA’s WOMEN’s Gymnastics program is #1. Let’s see…any women Gymnasts arrested lately?

At least UGA will be #1 in GEORGIA!!

At least UGA’s HOPE Scholarship and the rich Suburban Moms (some MILF’s)/Dads will continue to benefit from the Poor and Minorities this Holiday Season!

As far as the Perez story is concerned, anyone who works at a daily newspaper knows that the metro section is read far more than the Sports section. Ask advertisers, they know. Newspaper research usually shows that the Metro section is only second behind in readership than the first section. Some papers’ Metro is the highest read section. Now you know.

4-1 In our 5 rival games is a good season.Good for Tech to be excited for this game,It makes it all the more fun when we crush em today.”TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!” Paul Johnson’s little quote is about to bite him in the a*.Notice how CMR made the statement that it’s only OK to run up the score in games against GA Tech being the instate rival. That quote got his attention look for him to refer to it in some way after the blow out.On a different note for all my old school DAWGS I got a question. How much impact did the Jan Kemp fiasco have on the program?and do you think it still lingers in our admission policies.I’ve noticed over the years a slew of state prospects that go to other schools even GA Tech- mind you-who say they would not be admitted at GA.Im talking starter caliber players playing at AUB,ALA,FLA,FSU etc

As nervous as I am about this game, I still keep thinking about Tech just barely beating Gardner Webb. Trivia question, what former Hawk went to Gardner Webb? I know that is too easy. It’s too bad the Dawgwalk was canceled today. Hopefully that’s not a bad sign.

I predict the Doggies will win this one, but they will remain as the most overrated program in D-1A football, and will remain as a sports embarassment to the state of Georgia.

No Know Moreno and AJ Green are about all you have, with neither having the ability to reach the next leve with the UGA program, so I see them opting for the draft.

CMR will get another raise for doing nothing, thus business as usual.

Rumors about Coach Richt leaving are just to fantastic and irrational to believe; or even to comment on…lol. On the other hand, I wouldn’t put ANYTHING past M. Adams. His egomaniacal efforts to rule the Athletic Dept are near blatant. Somehow he remains in power even with his disregard and disrespect for Coach Dooley. Makes me wonder if the Board of Regents is loaded with Techies.

How can you honor a man who had uga football, basketball, or baseball on probation an average of every 3 years,, not to mention the Harrick and Kemp affairs, don’t tell me Adams made him do it,,, he could have said no and take his position public where he would have had overwhelming support.

Good game dawgs. Its halftime but we know this one is over. I knew it would be about possession time. Stafford has passed to every one except his center. My question is where has this been all year ? Why the “breakout” game now ? Tech had no first half turnovers so they did’nt fall on their sword. We know the key to this game for Tech is to keep the UGA offense off the field and this isn’t being done. CMR will really rub our nose in it by playing 2 or 3 QBs in the second half. Who will they be ?

Just curious if you have the balls to hang around and man up….but probably not and you will head to the exits just like every other UGA fan when you don’t get your way.

Jackets 45 Dogs 42….the drought is over and the bells toll for CMR….heck, go ahead and give him another raise.

Again, penalties continue to plague your program. A total lack of discipline is killng your program, but no none can admit it. All about next year…then the next year…then the next year….

Good game, Techies. Couple holding penalties at inopportune times; an INT; no quick outs to WRs nor the TE…leading to predictability by the fourth quarter; overall D failure, gave up too many big plays. Great win for Tech, no bout-a-doubt-it.

Maybe next year Gerogia will try an on-side kick everytime. If successful we get the ball, if unsuccessful the other team will start where they usually do.
