UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

‘What If’ the Bulldogs had …

NOTE: PRESS CONFERENCE NEWS UPDATES IN COMMENTS BELOW

I don’t know if this is a good thing or simply a scary thing. I’d been planning since this weekend to do a “What If … ” blog this week. Then I was perusing the comments on Monday’s blog and noticed a number of you guys were already thinking about the same thing.

Personally I’m not a recruitnik. It’s not that I don’t understand the importance and the excitement of recruiting. I get it. But when you’ve done this as long as I have, you just get tired of all the hype, all the fawning over high school seniors and you just kind of think it sad to see grown men rejoicing and bemoaning the whims of 18-year-olds.

Now Georgia is always going to recruit well. Just because it’s the flagship university in a state brimming with Top 100 national prospects — not to mention UGA graduates — the Bulldogs are always going to get their share of blue-chippers.

But almost as impressive as the players Georgia has been able to sign under Mark Richt is the list of really, really good ones that got away. Imagine if the Bulldogs had this year just a few of the prospects that had them as finalists only to go another direction.

“What if …”

(1) Georgia had Tennessee defensive back Eric Berry?

Even though his father played for the Vols, Berry made numerous visits to Georgia and considered the Bulldogs all the way to the end. Earlier this season he told me he still has loads of friends in Athens and could have seen himself going to school there.

(2) They could have landed Allen Bailey?

The freakishly-athletic, big guy from the tiny Hog Hammock community on Sapelo Island chose Miami over Georgia mainly because the Hurricanes promised him a crack at linebacker. The 6-foot-4, 285-pounder played one series against Texas A&M last season but has emerged as a star defensive end this season.

(3) Cameron Heyward had come to Athens?

Drew Butler’s 6-6, 287-pound teammate at Peachtree Ridge instead chose Ohio State, where he was named freshman All-America and has 35 tackles and 3 sacks this season.

(4) Antwane Greenlee doesn’t flip but flops?

The 6-foot-6, 292-pounder from Columbus backed out on the Bulldogs on national signing day to ink with Florida State, where he’s now a starting tackle. Georgia thought it recovered with Chris Little’s last-second reversal on Notre Dame but Little quit the Bulldogs and headed back to Twiggs County earlier this fall without ever playing a down.

That’s but a few. You could go on and on and the same could probably be said of almost virtually every BCS program around but it is fascinating to consider What If? What if Tech’s Jonathan Dwyer had come to Georgia instead Tech. What if Brian VanGorder had never left? What if the Bulldogs hadn’t “blacked out” the Alabama game? What if they’re not called for two personal fouls on the Tide’s opening drive? What if Knowshon Moreno had signed with Maryland and Matthew Stafford with Texas and A.J. Green with South Carolina? Things might be a little different.

Let’s hear some of your best “what-ifs.”

“What If” Mark Richt put the program ahead of his own selfishness and got rid of the incompetent Willie Martinez for a real defensive cooridnator? Then we wouldn’t be wasting “TRUE” superstars in Knowshon Moreno and Matt Stafford. If Richt truly cared about taking this program to the next level (ala Satan and Meyer) he would make the difficult choices that MUST be made as a head coach and not let personal relationships come before what’s best for the University of Georgia.

Well said Scott. If the Dawgs D fails to appear on Saturday, CWM’s seat should be sizzling hot enough that he can’t take it any longer. If Coach Richt can’t make the changes necessary, then his seat will begin to warm if there’s a similar lack of defensive effort next season.

OH leg humpers! has it already started, the wait until next years.

If only Ga had no injuries, hadn’t been ranked so high, sucked so bad in the games that really mattered.

If Only Moreno would have rested instead of taking himself out.

If only we had Tim Tebow instead of Throw it as hard as i can Stafford.

If only UGAY had won a championship in the last ten years or so.

If only we had a defense coordinator that could call a blitz.

If only we had won all our games, we would have had a decent season

If only we could not have worn those black Jerseys

This is Hillarious

“What if” some fans, like Scott, grew up and stopped acting like a whiney, petulant, little girl and stop calling Coach Richt selfish, or fire Coach Martinez, and make a real decision to grow up! People like him either have no idea what the coaches and players go through to win a game or they are so dellusional that they expect perfect execution from kids 18 and older. Hey Scott—-tell me have you ever made any mistakes at work? Have you ever been fired? Have you ever been reprimanded at work or home? Let’s take a look at your life and see how you are doing! And, since you are so adamant about football: would you take what Georgia is now or would you like to go back to the days of Ray Goff and Jim Donnan? You want to be mad at someone, then be mad at Coach Dooley for farting around with our program by first contemplating a run for Governor, which cost us Coach Russell. Then he kept Coach Goff even after Florida and UT went years ahead of us. And then hired Donnan and, despite Donnan’s constant uniform changes, stood by his man as the program was a national joke. We lost a generation (1982-2002) of kids who went elsewhere because UGA was a national joke. That is reality. Blame Coach Richt all you want but in six of 8 years we finish in either the top 10 or top 5, 2 SEC Championships, and a serious threat to win it all. Coach Richt has done more for our program than people like Scott, who selfishly complain, will ever do. So Scott here’s a suggestion: if you think you can do better than apply for the job of Head Coach. Otherwise you and all the other whiney fans sit down and shut up!

By Cameron

What if UGA got Morgan Burnett? A defensive backfield of E. Berry, R. Jones, A. Allen, and M. Burnett is NCAA championship caliber. I see three or four first round pick son that one. What if UGA got Jermain Cunningham, Allen Bailey, and Cameron Heyward? That pressure problem that we have wouldn’t be present. What if we kept Duke Robinson? Our O-line would be better. What if we got Calvin Johnson, Kenny McKinley, and Harry Douglas?

for Hillarious: How good would you be if you lost your starting LT, his backup, your starting DT and defensive leader to season ending injuries? All your weapons would not be nearly as effective without anyone to block. Keep playing Tebow four quarters (and passing) against the Citadel. And, go write books and cry about celebrations.

By Dawg Fud

Scott

I think it is unfair of you to incenuate that Coach Richt does not have the program’s best interest in mind.

You acknowledge ‘true superstars’ in Knowshon and Stafford yet you make no mention of its equivalent on the defensive side of the ball. We just are not that talented on the defensive side this year.

As a Bulldog, I know this is difficult to stomach considering that great defense has always been a staple of our program.

However, given all that Richt and his family (including the rest of the UGA coaches) have dedicated to our University and the success he has had, i find it unfair for you to call his judgement into question.

Hey Hillarious, it was the Georgia endzone we danced in and I loved the look on the gators faces when we got done. Plus this is a blog by the AJC, you act like CMR wrote it himself. Plus you don’t base a program off the last 10 years. We still lead the Gators in Conf. titles, bowl wins, and the overall series lead and both tied at 2 in nat titles. You most likley do not have any affilation with the university in any way and claim the Gators because your grand parents own a condo in West Palm like every band wagon jumping fan in FL.

You dog fans have been playing what if since January. The bottom line is, football will always be what if. You factor injuries, turnovers, penalities, etc. into the what if equation all of the time. The dogs had the talent to win it all this year, but it has not happened. Some of you have what if about having a different coach with all of your talent. Again, it did not happen. If that talent does not show up(what if) on the 29th, the jackets win. It appears the jackets are not playing the what if game.

To H*&! with the “what-ifs”. Just as long as those that came to UGA truly wanted to be Bulldogs…then I’m happy. As long as they gave their all every Saturday I’m happy. As long as we can play competitively and with dignity…again I’m happy.

But when we don’t show team leadership (aka getting in bar fights, touching pregnant women on their bellies when not asked to, getting caught with weed, illegally using phone cards, etc.), we don’t show respect to the fans and the University, then I’m not happy.

For each stupid mistake and with each lackluster effort I wish that those players had to put up with the likes of jort wearing, mullet pimpin’ Florida fans for weeks on end like I do.

I hope that in 2009 we can stay healthier and we can stay out of these newspapers. If we can, then I think we may not be so disappointed.

What if we ahd fans that stuck by their team no matter what? What if we had objective fans who realized that they don’t know that much about football? What is we had fans that knew that they do not know how to run a program? What if we supported our school no matter what? What if we actually had facts to back up our criticism? He asked you to respond to the article about recruits getting away, not about each persons own agenda. Yeah, our season has not lived up to the billing. If we are not ready to play Saturday, Ga Tech will beat us. The strengths of thier team is their defensive line and running game. Our weakness is our run defense and offensive line. We better be ready. And, despite the letdown, we still will be playing on Jan. 1 and will have the chance to beat Ohio State and win 11 games. If that doesn’t make you excited, go root for someone else.

“What if” we didn’t have excuse making fans like G$Dawg? Then, we wouldn’t make excuses for embarrassing ourselves twice on national TV this season and proving that we are still NOT a top national program. What happened to the intensity, the fundamentals, the discipline, and the defense that was a hallmark of Richt’s first four seasons here? “What if” it returns, well then we’d be back on the right track. Until then, Richt is holding back the program, which has all the resources to be a national title contender yearly as is UF, OK, TX, OSU, LSU, and USC.

What if all of us knew WHY all these players didn’t come to UGA. Could it be that all of them might not have academically qualified….had some character issues??? Eric Berry may be, himself, asking what if?? UT is gonna be in a rut long after he’s gone. From reading all the blogs…the Ohio St. tackle doesn’t have to face the quality opponents that SEC teams do….so does that taint his freshman accolades?? FSU isn’t going anywhere great on NEW YEARS DAY…just like Miami….UNLESS they get to go to the “Hell, we’ve GOTTA take one ACC team Bowl.”

I didn’t much care for the “No heart” column a week ago, because I think the team DOES have heart…they may be DIS heartened for watching so many of their teammates fall to season ending injuries. Plus talent will ALWAYS make Coaches better…So don’t slay Martinez just yet. Face it…if there were 10 more Renne Currans on defense…WM would be a genius every week.

So what if the scheule makers hadn’t scheduled 4 weeks in a row (murderers row). What if there’d be a week off before Alabama or Florida?? It is what it is. Let’s beat Tech and head to Mickey Mouse land and start off 09 with a resounding win over Ohio St. and start planning high hopes again for next fall.

What if society stopped making excuses for it’s problems. What if students stopped making excuses to teachers. What if criminals didn’t have people to make excuses for them. “If if’s and buts were candy and nuts we would all have a great christmas.”

Bottom line is the UGA is panning out in 2008 just like everyone predicted, overrated, a coach that is overpaid and talent out the a*. UGA has some of the top talent in the nation, one of the largest war chests, but due to poor coaching they have not even come close to playing for a national title since CMR has been on board.

And do not start whining about the SEC. This has been one of the worst years for the SEC with only UF and UA making any noise, and both of these programs slaughtered your program.

No Show Moreno is decent, but Stafford’s ratings are in the tank and neither are Heisman material.

It just makes everyone in this town sick to hear the ACJ kiss UGA’s a* week after week, to sell newspapers to the faithful UGA alumni.

Until somemone in Athens wakes up and guts the UGA coaching staff, you will never reach domination capacity as other programs such as LSU, UF, OU and USC.

So go ahead and give CMR another raise, so he can buy another pair of expensive Oakley Sunglasses for Saturday games, and then he can also hit the tanning booth, while other programs move the next level.

This program is embarrssing.

What if the majority of people on these blogs were reasonably intelligent? What if these same people stayed on the topic of discussion instead of using this opportunity to spew their hatred and to boast about past games? What if people who use UGA players’ names to post their stupidity against UGA stayed out of it?

Chip It’s an interesting thought to go through the “what ifs”, but as you can see the majority of people simply use these blogs to get on and amuse themselves and other like (simple) minded people. The fact remains that UGA pretty much gets the kids we really want and those who sign with other teams do not want to be Georgia Bulldogs in the first place.

We have had some very impressive signing classes under Richt, but recruiting is like the NFL draft in that it is based on potential, that’s it. It is up to the coaching staff to take these kids and coach them up to D-1 players. Not every one will be a starter and some won’t ever pan out at all, but these kids are given an opportunity based on their potential.

We could certainly use players like Berry, Heyward, Bailey and Greenlee, but who’s to say that they would be playing at the same level if they had come to UGA? I fear that some of our coaches are unable to coach these kids up, and that is a disservice to the program and the other coaches.

I am on board with G$DAWG in that we are no longer a “joke” and are a legitimate program with Richt, but we may need to find a couple of new position coaches to get us to the next level. Searels was a step in that direction, in my opinion.

NEWS UPDATE

There will be a story popping up online here shortly but for your loyal bloggers I’ll let you know first that Larry Munson is going to be honored Saturday on the field for his 43 seasons of broadcasting the Bulldogs’ games. It’s pretty cool that they’re going to do it between the first and second quarters of the game because Larry’s never been on the field to feel what it’s like when the stands are full and everybody’s cheering. How loud do you think his ovation will be?

  1. Eric Berry is a stud and a 1st round Draft Pick for sure. The Dawgs don’t have a single player on defense that can hit like him. But I think he was always going to go the Tennessee regardless. Still, we sure could have used him this year.

  2. Allen Bailey’s a good player, but I can take him or leave him.

  3. Cameron Heyward is probably the best defensive player I’ve ever seen at the high school level( and I’ve seen Takeo Spikes play). Without him, that state championship Peachtree Ridge team 2 years ago is a 6-5 or 7-4 team at best. But again, I don’t think he ever really considered UGA.

  4. Greenlee is a good player, but I’m not sure if he’s that much better than what we already have. Plus if he wants to go to a sorry program like FSU, let him.

As for the other “what if’s”. 1.Brian Van Gorder wasn’t long for UGA, we should consider ourselves lucky we were able to keep him after the 2002 season. 2.Jonathan Dwyer is a good player, but we have depth at running back, and wouldn’t have gotten much playing time. He’s in a better situation at Tech. 3. Georgia would have lost to Bama this year regardless of what color jersey they decided to wear. 4. Things would definately be different and probably worse without Knowshon, Stafford and Green. With that being said, we can get blown out by Florida without them. This team needs blue chip talent on defense, that’s how they won SEC championships in 2002 and 2005 and it’s the only way they will ever win a National Championship if they ever do.

yes - you can play the “what if” game - which works in other ways too. What if SC doesn’t fumble right at the end zone this year against UGA? What if Vandy makes that first down and they beat UGA this year? What if KY QB doesn’t throw an interception when at GAs 13 with less than a minute to go? What if Auburn’s Freshman QB doesn’t overthrow Ben Tate in the end zone with 1 second left when at UGAs 14? With all three of these games UGA could easily be 6-5. What if Quincy Carter had not reneged on his signing with Tech - breaking what CMR likes to talk about keeping an “honorable agreement” and signed with GA instead? What if Stafford had choosen Texas over GA? Cry all you want to Dawg Nation - but all of this season for your over-ranked tail boils down to this: “What-if” So much for National Champs

“What ifs” and Georgia football — like Sinatra said, you can’t have one without the other! So Tech’s a secondary rival now? Just wait til they beat the Dogs once, they’ll be back up there with That School in That State Down South. Wasn’t that the reason Donnan was fired - lost to Tech too much?

What if South Carolina doesn’t fumble on the 1 yard line?

What if Vandy doesn’t fumble as they’re going for the winning td late in the game last year?

What if Kentucky doesn’t throw an int as they are driving for the winning td this year?

What if Stafford and Moreno had gone to their home state schools like Texas and Rutgers or at least a regional school as opposed to going halfway across the country to come to uga? Imagine how lowly the dawgs would be without those 2.

What if UGA doesn’t committ those 2 personal fouls on Bama’s first drive? So what. Bama would have kicked a field goal and instead of leading 31-0 at the half they would have only led 27-0 at the half. Either way the Bammers thoroughly dominated and kicked the living crap out of the dawgs.

G$Dawg and the rest of you pretend historians,

While I agree that Scott and others like him who attack coaches when they know nada about football should shut their idiot pie holes, your history is way off. First, Dooley was considering running for the Senate, not Governor. Methinks that there was soem evidence of an affair that would have surfaced which kept Dooley as AD instead. Its a shame that those sorts of private indiscetions would be disclosed for political gain, but that is the world in which we live.

Second, Dooley himself and his career choices had NOTHING whatsoever to do with the fact that Erk was never the head ball coach at UGA. In fact, it was only because Dooley stepped down that Erk had a chance at all. Had Dooley chosen to remain, Erk would never have had an interview for the job. The truth of the matter is that Dooley’s role in finding a replacement was singular: recommend to a committee headed by then President Knapp the person he thinks should get the job. Dooley’s sole recommendation: Erk Russell. The reasons behind why Knapp did not want Erk is not completely known. However, Knapp was from the ACC. He was hired to clean up the mess from the Fred Davidson years and the Jan Kemp scandal. His job, as he saw it, was to change the school’s image away from a “football and/or party school.” I think he did not like the idea of having to compete for power with Erk in Athens. A battle he was surely to lose. Therefore, they did what Jeremy Foley did to SOS when they fired Zook. Interview the candidate that the fans and alumni think should have the job, and then offer it under conditions so onerous that the candidate will turn it down. That’s what happened to Erk and that’s what happened to SOS.

So if you want to know who to blame for the years of football mediocrity you can blame Chuck Knapp. If you want to credit someone for bringing UGA from where it was to its current position in reputation, Knapp deserves a lot of credit. But I’d still like to kick his azz for not hiring Erk.

What if UGA landed the number 1 player at every position every year? If “ifs” were 5ths, we would all be drunk. I know it is an article just for fun and it’s not making excuses. However, I don’t think not getting these guys should be indictment at all. Eric Berry may have seriously considered Georgia, but with his dad having gone to Tenn, he was a long shot. At the time Heyward was a senior in hs, he was looking at schools who seemed to be in dire need of defensive ends and at the time Ohio St fit that bill more (not now, of course). Besides, the term freshman all american is a relative term. Bailey and Greenlee are different, but you can’t really blame Greenlee because he stood a better chance of starting right away at FSU.

As far as the other scenarios, Dwyer would be backing up Moreno and would probably be used in a similar capacity as King and Samuel. I don’t think the blackout would have mattered either way. Had Van Gorder never left? We probably would be much better defensively and people wouldn’t be complaining as much even if we were still 9-2. Besides, given the scholarship limits, had we had any of those guys, we might not have someone else we do have who is very key for us.

AMEN TO THAT, BROTHER. Erk should have gotten his chance. Lord knows he saved vince’s a** year in and year out. When Erk left, we became a bunch of pansies.

Kind of similar to what happened when another certian defensive coordinator left uga a couple of years ago…..

Don’t be too hard on Chuck Knapp. He did have to clean up the mess by J. Kemp, and because of his hard work in the Academic arena, “Smiling Mike” Adams gets to look like he is the greatest prez UGA ever had. I remember sitting in a lecture that Knapp gave one day and hearing him talk about all of the things that will (and have) happened at UGA. All Knapp needed was funding - which Smiling Mike got from Zell.

Meanwhile, here’s a what if….what if CMR’s and CWM’s gameplans get executed perfectly every game? That’s why we lose….we have a great gameplan but bad execution.

So, if we ever start executing, WE WILL BE UNSTOPPABLE!!!!! (for those of you in alabama and mississippi, that last statement was dripping with sarcasm.)

Being gone from the State of UGA for the past 9 years I missed hearing Larry, I didn’t pay what I considered a greedy price for something I used to get for free, hearing him over the internet. The networks had such great respect for Larry, occasionally they would replay some of his calls during the games. I hope this honor touches him (he’s a pretty gruff old guy) and he lives long enough to see another MNC. Some of my best memories of UGA football are Larry’s calls. I’m sure the guys doing the broadcast now are good, but I can’t imagine living there and not listening to him.

Chip, great blog, we were short a great DB and DE, what if we had one of each from the list. And what if Sturdivant had been healthy? Coulda made a huge difference. Let’s just get through this dismal 9-2, hopefully 10-2, then 11-2 year, suit up, get some “hunger and comittment” (borrowed from Hunk Erdown)for 09 and see what happens. HERE’S SOMETHING I WROTE FOR TOMORROW’S PAPER ON DEFENDING THE TRIPLE OPTION:

By CHIP TOWERS ctowers@ajc.com

Athens — As football coaches in the 1960s and 1970s, Georgia’s Dick Bestwick and Vince Dooley both spent a lot of time teaching their teams to defend the triple option. And both agreed this week that the key to containing it is great defensive end play. Of course, that hasn’t exactly been a strong suit for the Bulldogs this season. Then again, they were usually struggling to rush the passer, not defend the option. “I think it’s on the defense as a whole,” Georgia junior defensive end Rod Battle said. “I think different plays may take the pressure off the defensive end and put it on a different position depending on the different calls.” Bestwick said he liked for his defensive ends to crash inside hard then “feather” back outside to dupe the quarterback into passing up the dive. Dooley liked his guys to stick to their individual responsibilities. “You’ve got to have somebody taking the dive man, somebody taking the quarterback and somebody taking the pitch man,” Dooley said. “Of course, we had Bill Stanfill at defensive end. He took the dive and the quarterback and the pitch himself.” The truth is nowadays defending the option is unlike anything a defense is asked to do the rest of the year. Only Georgia Tech, the service academies and a few select teams employ the offense in Division I. So the novelty of it is almost as troublesome as players running it. “When you play this offense you have to have discipline in your assignments,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “Certain guys are assigned to certain parts of the option and if one guy tries to do someone else’s job then you are in trouble. I think sometimes they get a little impatient and they just want to go get the quarterback or get the pitch back and it may not be his assignment.” But Richt wasn’t so sure that defensive ends were going under the most pressure Saturday. “It really puts pressure on everybody,” he said. “All it takes is one man to adlib and that might be the crease that gets you gashed. The d-ends have a crucial role. Put it this way, their dive back has over 1000 yards so somebody better be responsible for that.”

What if Fred Gibson had gone to UF instead of Georgia…who would’ve made that nice fingertip snag to seal the win in the ‘04 Cocktail Party? What if Herschel had gone to USC - would his class have still won championships (don’t laugh - the 10-1-1 ‘83 team did fine without Herschel)? What if Knowshown had taken the usual path of a New Jersey prep star and gone somewhere like Rutgers, Penn State or Syracuse?

It works both ways, and more often than not in recent years Georgia has landed the players it wants. There’s been bad luck with injuries and attrition on the o-line, but otherwise Georgia has fielded deep, talented teams and other than ‘03 and parts of ‘06, the o-line play has been good. It’s time for Georgia to develop the ferocious defense an SEC school with that kind of talent should have - then the what ifs will turn into more SEC championships and a shot at the BCS title (mythical though it may be).

THIS WAS AN INTERESTING EXCHANGE WITH CMR ABOUT TECH B-BACK JONATHAN DWYER:

Q: Did y’all try to sign Dwyer?

CMR: Oh, yeah, we tried to get him. We tried. He’s a great kid too.

Q: Was it a numbers issue?

CMR: No, he had the opportunity to come.

Q: I mean from his standpoint, did he see too many running backs on your roster?

CMR: I don’t even know. I’m not really sure what the issue was.

Q: Could you envision Dwyer playing in this offense?

CMR: I’ve seen Dwyer so many times I’m having visions of him in my sleep… . Out of high school you couldn’t predict what could happen but if you asked could he be good at that I’d say ‘oh yeah he’d be very good at it.’ Never would I have dreamed that the coaches would have changed and the new coach run a triple option.

Reggie Ball Could really count to 4?

Rouben Houston was a smart dope dealer instead of a dumb dope dealer…I mean heck he is at Tech for crying out loud

Joe Hamilton could actually drive while he was hammered

Joe Hamilton bought the weed from Rouben Houston

Bama Stan had 45 seconds alone with Nick Saban….thats to much time…he would only need 20 seconds and that includes the respect of a reach a round

What if Vandy had beaten Tenn. last year and UGA would have played LSU for the SEC title, that was a helluva game last year Vandy and Tenn.

I agree with the one post that many of us fans do not know as much about football as me may think we do, but it is clear that UGA football team is undisciplined and not very well coached, dropped passes, stupid penalties, missed assignments, bad technique when tackling if they are in position to make the tackle, terrible play calling. I am not an expert but UGA was beaten soundluy by 2 teams that were just as talented as they were and struggle with teams that have less talent. We can make excusses about a couple of injuries but it is what it is, we are lucky that LSU and Auburn had down years and that South Carolina did not start Garcia or we would have lost 5 games after being preseason #1.

WHAT IF CMR DIDN”T WEAR HIS WIFE”S PANTIES and actually enforced rules and expected his players to be MEN not PUNKS?

By G Roberts

November 25, 2008 4:18 PM | Link to this

I suspect UGA has not gotten some of these players because they have an attitude or their image is too rough to fit the player image wanted at UGA. We need one or two of those guys playing on the defensive line. UGA’s efforts to get recruits who can get in school and stay there may exclude some of the very talent needed to move to the next level. Odell Thurman is an example. It was likely a miracle he played his junior and senior year and stayed out of trouble. Maybe it was a gamble to recruit a kid like him, but he was a very good player. These much needed players may be smarter than we think and to their credit realize that their wild and independent sides might not be a good fit at UGA.

So typical.

Here we are about to play Georgia Tech ranked Number 22, while UGA remains Ranked Number 11 - assuring only UGA of all football programs in America of finishing in the AP Poll Top 25 for the 12 consecutive season - and instead of the guy who told this blog that UGA is chaulk full of more BUSTS than Stars in recruiting saying that UGA clearly has done far better in this state than Georgia Tech, and what do we get instead ?

UGA failed and let someone get away from the state of Georgia with 100,000 high school football players to choose from. What if we had this 1 or that 1 instead, you mutter.

Excuse me.

What if Georgia Tech had Matthew Stafford ? What if Tech had Knowshon Moreno ? What if Tech had AJ Green ?

Would Tech have Lost to Number 33 Virginia Tech ?

Would Tech have Lost to Number 51 Virginia ?

Would Tech have Lost to Number 34 North Carolina ?

Would Tech have beat Number 1 Alabama with them, or even Number 2 Florida ?

I respect CMR but dawgs lack some visibility or profile to make runs at BCS title. I think Florida, Bama , LSU, Ole Miss will dominate the SEC for several years. UGA will win its share of games , but like Auburn, BIG SHOW is in far distance of reality… SEC title since 2001…UGA 2, Auburn 1, LSU, Florida NC, Bama is out recruiting the world and Ole Miss has maybe one best coach in SEC. Its hard to realize UGA has been so successful in recruiting last 7-8 years and won only two SEC titles… Saban in second year is closer to BCS title game than CMR years, unbeaten scoring 31 points in first half against dawgs. Yes I am a *UGA fan after Auburn, but this season for dawgs is sad . Good luck against Tech and Ohio State

What if Ga Fans actually had some brains and some cohones to demand excellence and not mediocrity. Unfortunately for too many UGA fans CMR can do no wrong so winning a National Championship is not a priority to way too many fans in this state. CMR is selfish because CWM is not the defensive coordinator for UGA. Remember when Florida lost a national Championship because of defense. What did Spurrier do? Fired his D coordinator, hired a new coach and the rest is history. History UGA wishes it could enjoy.

UGA fans, what if Tech scores 40 or 50 points and UGA loses? What then? Some of you fans are real morons! Willing to settle for less then excellence is failure!

Hello Scott (with 11/25, 8:19 a.m. post), Your an idiot. Georgia’s defense has no hi-quality def-ends — getting no pressure on QB. If & when you blitz, you’re forced into man-to-man coverage, and Asher Allen is the only quality DB. Georgia’s defense has a severe personnel/talent problem, not a coaching problem.

What if you worried about things that mattered more than you do about college football?

The defense blew the season for the Dawgs!

Replace the defensive coordinator.

If CMR really means there will be no staff changes then he is an idiot and should be the first to go. If he is so blinded by freindship then he is not capable of the head job!

I am so disappointed in Mark Richt. What does Willie Martinez have on you Mr. Richt. This Georgia defense ranks one of the worse ever. Georgia could not stop the pass or the run. I am a big dog fan. Loosing against the Jackets hurt. Mr. Richt you have no emotion. It look like you do not care. If you do not care go to another school and do your truck commercials. I don’t see emotion. You need to get up into Willies you know what. So much talent and no National Championship. You can’t win the big one by losing three games every year. Mark R is a sub par coach. Stafford and Moreno should leave. If they stay next year they will have to carry the entire team again. You can’t blame everything on the coaches. For the first time i don’t see this class playing in the NFL. The defense suck. Martinez it’s time to go.

Coach R Please don’t accept a bowl bid. This team would only embarass the Dawg Nation again.
