UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

Tech’s win should get Dogs’ attention
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Come on now, Georgia fans, you’ve got to admit it — that was an impressive performance by Georgia Tech against Miami last night. Four hundred seventy-two yards rushing, are you kidding me? Two gift TDs for the Hurricanes there at the end, too. In reality it was more like a 48-9 game than 41-23.
Just because of the intensity with which we have to cover our own beats and conflicts with the Yellow Jackets’ games on Saturdays, I hadn’t gotten to see a lot of Tech this season. Just bits and pieces here and there throughout the season and highlights on the local and national news. And, of course, I’ve read most everything our Tech writers have reported this year.
But that was the first time I was able to sit down, prop my feet up and take in one of their games. I didn’t watch every minute but I saw enough to see what I needed to see. They’re the real deal.
I told people around Athens at the outset of the season that Paul Johnson’s triple option was going to be a beast by the time these rivals met at the end of the season and that was without expecting Tech to arrive in Athens at 8-3. But they’re very good on defense as well, though I think the Bulldogs are going to bring considerably more to the table offensively that “The U” did.
From what I saw we should have the makings of one of the better Georgia-Georgia Tech matchups that we’ve seen in a while. What about those of you in the Bulldog Nation? Impressed with what you saw out of the Jackets? More fearful than before or are you still confident Georgia can stretch the streak to eight games?

I was at that game. Tech shredded Miami’s defense and made their offense look like a bunch of middle-schoolers. Miami’s defensive players just stood around the field dazed. Soft Willie better have his guys super prepared for this one, because if they look like they did against Alabama, Florida, Central Mich, LSU and Kentucky then Dwyer, Nesbit and company are going to go through them like a hot knife through butter!

Maybe the Tech athletes are a little better than Georgia Southern, but that is basically the same offense UGA has played against several times in the past. Miami thought they would win by just throwing their helmets onto the field - they tried that and it didn’t work! That effort should have had them doing wind sprints back to Coral Gables!!!!!

I’m a Dawg fan from way-back and I’ll admit that I was uneasily impressed by Tech last night. Their offense looked good but I was as equally impressed with their defense and am more worried by it. I think their defense is better than ours this year!! I think you are right in that it will be one of the better Tech-UGA matchups in a while. If my Dawgs don’t come prepared, it could go bad for us. But I think they’ll be ready next Saturday!! If we aren’t….then there will be a lot of Dawg nation fans that will be expecting some changes in the organization before next year!

Yeah the Dawgs should be fearful. Defensing the triple option requires discipline on the outside and excellent tackling. Obviously the biggest issues we have had ALL season.
It is easy to see how Ga Tech will dominate the rushing yards and T.O.P. What helps UGA is Stafford and Com. ability to have quick scoring drives. This also can be a problem in having the D on the field all day.
Tough game to call, just hope it won’t be a tough one to watch from a UGA side.

Tech IS a good team and I predict that their offense will give our D fits. They WILL score. On the other hand, Miami’s offense is no where near what UGA has. It will probably be a high scoring game. Miami simply does not have any playmakers, no QB and really nothing on the peremeter.
Bottom line, If UGA is running on all cylinders, it should be something like UGA 35, Tech 24. But if we bog down in the red zone, it might be a bad Saturday afternoon. Tech won’t be able to stop a UGA offense that is clicking. But Dwter is a beast and we should have someone tackle him every play, whether he has the ball or not. Eventually, Georgia SHOULD wear down Tech. I’m already shaking my head at the 1 or 2 long TD runs that Dwyer will have. Load 8 men in the box and dare Tech to pass. They don’t have much through the air.

you better believe i’m worried. miami had the 10th best defense in the country, gave up an average of 107 rushing ypg..tech more than quadrupled that. they didnt even play their starting running back after the first series in the second half..most of the 4th quarter was scrubs and seniors graduating who never play..this game could have been even uglier and had the starters played the whole game they could have rushed for 600 yards.
Hey Willie Martinez and Coach Richt (who said the fans no nothing about football)…better get things right..this isn’t a chan gailey team anymore!

Reading the option is only a part of defending the option. Gaps gotta be filled and ground stood. Defenders will have to play keys and play them well. Simply reacting can get defenses in trouble. Plug up the inside and it’s outside they will go. Disruption to the timing of this type of offense is one huge element. Options will exploit weaknesses in the defense once they are found and/or beat down. In essence, missed tackles are bad news for any defense, but in an option attack, missed tackles can break some hearts fast. Turnovers need to be big in UGA’s favor…From my vantage point down in the hollar, it looks like the over-under for UGA and GT ought to read 85 and the total combined yardage for the two offenses around 800…but THAT’S on paper and we all know what THAT’S worth in today’s marketplace and a rivalry like this ‘un…

I was impressed by Techs rushing attack, however at the same time you could see that Miami’s defensive players were not staying at hope like they should when defending the offense.
I like UGA’s chances of making it 8 in a row on Tech because of one player alone, AJ GREEN.

Dan, Yeah, the Dawgs have played against the Triple Option before and it about got them beat. Peterson racked up 150 yards in 2000 against UGA behind that small GSU O line. And that was when they had BVG as the DC. The Bullpups had better buckle it up tight next weekend. Paul Johnson will prove to be a bigger challenge this time around.

I have followed CPJ since Southern and seen defenses stop the option. I’ve also seen how he makes subtle changes to counter how they stopped them during halftime adjustments.

Where is the BEEF ??? The SEC has some BEEF and some SPEED !!!! GA has beaten much better teams this year than GA. TECH!!!! You journalist are doing nothing but building the hype like you do every single year !!! MIAMI was terrible on defense, thats how tech was able to get so many yards rushing !!!!.. I bet if Nesbit tries to run up the middle against GA, Curran is going to get a murder case on his hands after he hits him one time !!!! Every DAWG fan knows that Tech should be the ones scared to face us in OUR home !!!!!

Georgia Tech is running the same offense that Georgia Southern ran in 2004. That triple option gave the Georgia defense fits back then. I don’t even want to think how effective it will be when Johnson gets his players in.

I’m a Tech fan, just wanted to see what was going on over here on the Dog Blog…and before all the nasty name-calling and other crap starts, let me say that I consider Georgia a big step up in wieght class from what my Jackets have faced so far this year…I think the Dogs have too many weapons on offense for Tech’s small and injury-plagued D. But the Jackets will bring a lot of intensity, and (IMHO) if Georgia doesn’t play with a lot more effort and discipline than they showed against Auburn or Kentucky, Tech has a real chance. OK, let the insults, verbal abuse and general nastiness begin.

Again, just like the Auburn game, it will be a most pitiful game to watch with Georgia underacheiving, penalties, dropped passes, turnovers, and questionable play calling. Tech plays a pretty good game but not as good as they did against the U.
Still, Georgia wins with Tech having the ball last, giving us all a heart attack. Georgia 40; Tech 35.
Alas, there will be no coaching changes and we’ll do this all over again next year.

Let’s see…Chan is gone…Reggie is gone…Georgia cannot tackle…Georgia plays undisciplined…Georgia special teams are VERY bad…Georgia red zone office is poor…yea I’d say they should be worried. There is absolutley no excuse to come out flat for this game! The good news is Tech’s O line is as banged up as UGA and I while I respect their D line I don’t think they can stop UGA’s offense…although lately the Dawgs have done that on their own. This game will really tell us what UGA has in the way of coaching and players…especially in the heart category. Regardless of this years short comings UGA is still way too talented to lose to Tech if they play close to their potential but that as proven to be problem so far this year. I sound win cannot erase the shortfalls of this season but it can go along way toward feeling better about next year!
Go Dawgs…to hell with Tech!

Coming back fresh from four road games and three victories against LSU, Fla, KY and AUB to the comfort of Sanford stadium, and somehow Georgia’s supposed to be afraid of Tech? And to boot with a week off to be prepared against an ACC team? It might be a closer game than I like, but I’ve had much, much more to be afraid of this season than I do on Nov. 29th. Perhaps the nerdiest comment I’ve heard all year came from a tech fan earlier this season. And I quote: “There’s a new sheriff in town, and hell is coming with him.” Sorry folks, but there’s not gonna be a shift in power here.

Unwavering defensive discipline required to stop, or even significantly slow, the GT offense if they’re firing on all cylinders (which they certainly were last night). Discipline, defensive or otherwise, is not a characteristic of the 2008 Bulldogs. At the same time, when Miami scored their first TD, there wasn’t a GT defender within 15 yards of the Hurricanes receiver, so they’ve got their problems as well. Every single game UGA has played this year has been a nail-biter. This one won’t be any different. I’ve seen and heard a lot of UGA fans already talking about the Dawg’s 11-2 season: whoa, Nellie! Based on UGA’s play this year, GT has the capability to maul the Dawgs, and any good team UGA might face in a bowl game could also hand them their rear-ends on a platter. One way or the other, I’ll be watching!

Very impressive. I hope our defense was watching and lost alot of sleep last night. I think they’ll be ready. It could be shootout this year.
With that said and not to take anything away from Tech, but Miami’s offense is a sad and cruel joke. Good grief they are horrible.

After watching the game last nite, here are my observations:
Tech has zero passing attack. That will help us stop the run.
Dwyer may have a serious injury. He is really good. If he doesn’t play, I’m not nearly as worried about Tech’s offense.
The Dawgs had better practice their tackling this week, b/c that shoulder tackling is not going to work against that option.
Tech got beat 24-7 by North Carolina a couple of weeks ago. How high powered was that offense then?
They won’t be able to stop our offense.

Tech will be the “trendy pick” to beat Georgia by the talking heads, but the fact remains that Georgia will be the overall best and most balanced team they have faced all year, like most years. And with a week off before the game Georgia will be especially dangerous. I make no predictions.

HEY SMART GUY
You can say all that stuff about SEC vs ACC, but you forget that we played against Mississippi State and we beat the snot out of them too. You forget that this is the same Miami defense that Florida barely beat. And we ALL know what UF did to you guys…
When it comes down to it, Tech is going to win because of two words: WILLIE MARTINEZ. The matchup is going to be Martinez vs CPJ. Who do you think will win? This game is going to come down to coaching… And as long as you guys have soft Richt, Bobo, and Martinez, then this game will be in our favor. This isnt the same Tech team of the past 6 years. This team looks to embarrass people and they are tough as nails.

Wonderful game last night for our Jackets. A thrill to see them play with intensity and heart, and that is a function of having a real football coach. Thank you Coach Johnson and staff.
Even more heartwarming is reading the profound and insightful comments by Dawg fans; they have a sense of respect. Quite honestly, lack of respect for the Jackets was deserved; we were ill prepared by a coach that, although a Georgia native, never relished the intense rivalry of this game. From his opening remarks when he came on board, it’s obvious that Coach Johnson gets it.
Dawg fans have reason to be concerned about this game. Yes, we can run the ball, but our passing game doesn’t amount to much. I think we’ll see 8 in the box and daring us to throw. By the same token, Georgia’s weakness is in their offensive line. If our D line plays solid, things could be tough for UGA.
But I believe that the outcome of this game will be decided by the arm of that man among boys, Stafford, and his ability to get the ball to an unreal talent in Green against our young but aggressive secondary.
The bottom line is that this game may just be the first of the return to as fierce a rivalry game as there is in college ball. And as much as we Jacket fans love to chide the Dawgs and Dawg fans love to dish it out to us, wouldn’t it be marvelous to have both teams near the top of the college game and playing a meaningful game at Thanksgiving? As a lifelong Jacket fan, I’m thankful that we have a team that Dawg fans seem to respect. GO JACKETS!

It’s probably good for Georgia that Tech whipped Miami. We better be able to tackle and contain the edges. If we beat ourselves with personal fouls Tech wins. Can’t give up runs of over 20 yards like Miami did. If we can force Tech to throw I think we’ll be fine but if we can’t stop the run our defense will have a long day.

Willie Martinez’s job should be on the line in this game. End of story. I have defended him all year, but the facts are the facts. Our defense couldn’t stop a granny in a wheelchair all season long. Is it just me or was Auburn doing the same thing OVER and OVER and OVER again? Hey, you think Auburn might try a bootleg this time coach? I mean they’ve done it about 8 times in a row now.
As for Georgia Tech, we’ve got two weeks to prepare. No excuses. If they run up and down the field on us heads should roll. I think staff continuity is very important but the bucks got to stop somewhere.

Hey GTjug, yeah this is a sloppy team, but it’s a sloppy team that knows how to win, regardless of how sloppy they look in the process. Tech probably will move the ball on Georgia, but the problem is they have to outscore Georgia, and that means stopping this offense, which might spit and sputter along the way, but they do know how to move the ball. This game will determine the true character of the DAWGS. Tech comes in with momentum and ALOT to play for. The DAWGS are still licking their wounds from getting humiliated by Florida and not playing in the BCS.
On paper, it appears that GA will win handily. In fact, the team who wants it the most will win.
GA has had 2 weeks to prepare. If the Dawgs lose it will be because of lack of “heart” and commitment (aka…on the field leadership). As talented as this team is, they appear to lack this essential element of truly great teams. Tech, on the other hand, seems to have found an abundant supply of it.
This game will be interesting to watch. I just hope it isn’t painful.

I’m a UGA alum and Tech’s performance last night has to have other Dawg fans worried. Neither Kentucky nor Auburn had a passing game and we barely won those games. If not for two game saving TD grabs by AJ and two last minute stops on defense, we could be sitting here at 7-4. Toss in our red zone struggles and we will definitely have our hands full…Micheal Johnson is a beast and their defense is for real. I don’t know which is more laughable, Tech fans that despised the hiring of Paul Johnson a year ago…stayed away in droves until his ‘system’ started to click (read Mississippi State)…and now are fully (back) on the bandwagon, OR, my ‘fellow’ Dawg fans that seem to take every mistake made by this Georgia team as a personal affront.
How will the game go? Should be a good one, but I think in the end the third-best team in the SEC will take care of whatever Tech is in the ACC. Sadly, and regardless of the outcome for these same Dawg fans, the reaction is predictable - if we win they’ll be ‘b**g’ about why we couldn’t have done that against Florida and Alabama, and if we lose they’ll keep questioning Richt’s judgment and Martinez’s ability. Actually, it’s not laughable at all, it’s pathetic.

Tech is far better than most UGA fans may believe. This is a very talented football team, and that will cause UGAs defense to spend a lot of time chasing the hated yellow maggots trying to catch up. Our defense will not stop them. Tech’s 3 losses came in games where there were more than three fumbles by Tech where they stopped themselves. Our offense will try to play a SHOOT OUT game plan. Tech plays a lot of man defense, which means Stafford will be throwing bombs every other play, resulting in missed oppotunities and missed field goals and keeping our defense on the field. Old Fashioned Dooley Ball would give us number 8 in a row. But, alas, Stafford would rather throw it 40 times rather than give it to Knowshon 30 times.

This game woill come down to Georgia’s ability to make correct reads on defense and that scares me because they seem to always look out of place. I think Georgia’s offense will click because Stafford is better than any qb miami has and Moreno is better than any back miami has. Our offensive line will have to play well against their d line but I think we have the skill players to win this game. I like Paul Johnson as a coach. He is tough minded, has a disciplined team and they play hard every play. Georgia will win 31-20

I watched most of the game last night and was impressed with the play of the Jackets. The guy who really stood out in my mind was the big fullback [Cox?]. Helluva blocker and when he does get the ball, you’re definitely not going to arm tackle him.
Dawgs better not come into this game thinking it will be a repeat of the past several years…

First thing I want to note is the quote from a dawg poster earlier in the blog “…willie martiniez… with a week to prepare. Game over.” That’s funny, I don’t care who you are.
More than just about any game you could imagine, this game just comes down to execution. Whichever team executes the best will win, its just that simple. If both teams execute on a roughly equal level, I think UGA pulls it out.
My gut says both teams make a few critical mistakes, with stafford making a couple of ill-advised throws under pressure and UGA penetration causing a couple of muffed pitches from Tech.
UGA’s defense then plays without poise in crunch time overpursuing (much like they did against those auburn bootlegs) and Dwyer rips off a couple of huge runs late and Tech wins 24-20.

I won’t talk smack or do much in the way of making predictions. If Tech executes like they did last night, UGA is in for a contest. If Tech puts the ball on the carpet like they did against UNC, UGA can breeze. Of course it’s also about which UGA team shows up. The team that plays with the most fire AND discipline is going to come out on top. It ought to be fun.

gdawg~zoo——I attended a football game at Grant Field for the first time last night with several friends who are Miami alumni. Several observations … .
First, being a creature of the SEC, I was surprised that the stadium was still only 75-80% full for a game of this importance to Tech’s current season and future. What’s up with that? Probably 20% of the folks in attendance were Miami fans.
Second, Miami isn’t that good … yet. Neither of the UM quarterbacks are ready for prime time. Maybe they will mature; maybe not. Maybe, Randy Shannon has better QB talent lined up in his next top-5 or top-10 recruiting class. The Hurricanes are competitive this year, and with another good recruiting class and another year’s experience, they will surprise some folks next season. They will seriously contend for the 2009 ACC championship against Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia Tech, and may be close to being a national player again.
Third, Georgia Tech is by no means 30 points better than Miami. On the talent differential alone, the Hurricanes should have won this game, but they didn’t. Why, you ask? Because …
Fourth, Tech’s triple-option is hard to defend, not because the Yellowjackets are dominant or even better talent-wise, but because opposing defenses are not used to defending against it as a system. That will change, but I expect Johnson will recruit better talent for his system in the near future. This little experiment is going to be interesting to watch. Don’t laugh, and don’t dismiss it as a “high school offense.”
Fifth, what is most interesting about Tech is that the team is playing with enthusiasm and heart. They should not be as good as they are in Paul Johnson’s first year, but they are playing better than the team’s talent on paper would lead one to believe. This is what should worry Georgia fans most. Johnson has a very motivated group of young players, who apparently believe in their coach and themselves. I think we all know that college football is a game of emotion, where great coaching still counts.
Your Dawg coaches and players better take the Bugs seriously, or that win streak may be in jeopardy.

As a Tech fan, what scares me is the dawgs having two weeks to rest up and prepare for our offense. They got a good look at it last night and I’m sure Tech has their attention. Matt Stafford also scares me. It seems like all the talk today is about the Tech offense vs. GA defense. Well, Matt Stafford is the real deal as well and Tech’s secondary better tackle and our D-line must get pressure on him or it might be a long day for my Jackets on defense.
By the way, Jonathan Dwyer is the most underrated back in the nation. The kid is a beast. He has both size and speed. UGA linebackers better tackle better than UM, because if he breaks a tackle in gets into the secondary he can run over those DB’s or possibly take it to the house.

I, like you Chip, had the first real chance to sit down and watch Tech play. I was very impressed with their offense and the way they came out. I thought Miami would win by 12 points but boy was I wrong. There is no doubt UGA will have their hands full with Tech. I have told people, if Paul Johnson stays and Tech doesn’t run him out, then Tech will get us before he leaves. There offense does make me worry against our defense even though they played better against Auburn. I believe Techs D will have not seen a better offensive team all year than they will when they play us. It should be a good one in the battle for the Governor’s Cup, GO DAWGS!!!!

Well, we are on the right track to having this be a premier matchup.
Can the Dawgs block #93? Can they avoid #1?
Can Bobo fight his urge to call the TB screen 5X?
Can the UGA D all of a sudden figure out the proper angles to take? Become disciplined? Be nasty?
Will the tech o-line blow out any knees with that blocking style?
Did the Miami D look slow last night? Was it because tech has speed or because they were just going through the motions? The Canes looked very fast vs. fla at the beginning of the year.
Miami’s O looked awful. There were a few times when the RB had large holes or opportunity to bounce outside that he just did not take advantage of.
This is going to be a long 8 days.

I watched the game last night and hopefully the players and the coaching staff did as well. We had better have a good week of practice and somehow get motivated or this one could get ugly. I’m talking West Virginia Sugar Bowl ugly.
Soft Willie had better teach these young pups to tackle with 2 arms or Tech will have another 400+. There is no telling how many tackles the U missed last night. No kidding, I bet it’s close to 75 or so. I’m afraid this will be the last home game for Stafford and Moreno as well.

I admit, this is about as clean and respectful as I’ve ever seen a dawg post. As a Tech alum and fan, I’m proud of our men. Although we had no expectations, we do play with pride and heart and most of all, overcome adversity. Let’s face it ugag should win. They’re at home and they get better talent - period. Having better talent doesn’t always win the game though. CPJ was brought into Atlanta to do one thing - bring the Good Old Fashioned Hate back - and regardless of what happens next Saturday I think he will do that. There’s no point of being afraid, just play the game. I do think a noon game is an advantage for Tech, so we’ll see how that plays out.

As a UGA grad I gotta be honest with myself….they’re gonna lose. Why? Because in order to effectively defend the option you have to play DISCIPLINED!! That’s the very thing UGA’s defense lacks. Anyone who considers themselves a true football fan has to be impress with GT’s execution of their offense in the amount of time they’ve had to absorb it.

We had a great game last night and needed it after our last game at UNC. No big predictions here, but I will state what some have already said. This game will come down to execution. Honestly, the biggest factor is turnover margin. The team that ends up with +1 or more will win. I don’t think it will be a barn burner though. Tech has got to keep Green and Massaquio from killing us with the big plays, but I don’t think Moreno will be used enough to be a factor after the 1st quarter or so, see play calling. UGA obviously has to keep their assigments on D. But the killer will be the few passes we do throw and how well they are thrown. That said, UGA does have more offensive talent than we have faced this year. On the other hand Tech has faced better D’s than UGA’s. This game could go either way, but I do like our chances and the direction this rivalry could to be heading, in the near future with both teams having something on the line riding for this matchup.

31-0 at the half?!!
WOW!! Tech played a great game in prime time last night. Congratulations to the Yellow Jackets!!!
As I had mentioned in my prior bloggings - UGA may be in trouble as Tech will be prepared - the UGA game is the one Tech circled on the calendar.
Atlanta Gator made a great observation about defending the triple option and discipline - this really sets up Tech as the UGA defense has struggled with discipline all season - look at the stupid penalties and breakdowns they had this year. Could be in trouble - but rooting for the SEC!! Just do not feel warm and fuzzy for UGA in this one.
One last thought - stealing from a blog I read months ago (maybe last spring) from one of the many bloggers:
What do UGA, SEC fans, and Tech fans think about Georgia Tech re-joining the SEC?
I would love to see it - as Bama and Tech had a fierce rivalry. Also, living in Atlanta - and being selfish - would love to see Alabama play at Bobby Dodd. We do not get to Tuscaloosa but a couple of times a year - but imagine:
Tennessee, Florida, S. Carolina, and west rotating in Bama, Auburn, LSU coming into Bobby Dodd - YES, I would go watch some of these games.
Can Tech compete? - Well - ask Auburn what happened the last two times they played Tech in recent years.
But beyond that - Tech is in the middle of SEC country - a great institution - and even the TV coverage last night mentioned several times about the SEC Championship Game being in ATL in a few weeks!! (Slap in the face to Thursday night ACC coverage!!)
I say - DUMP Arkansas to the Big 12 (they have a great rivalry with Texas and the school is located closer to MO, OK and OK State than other SEC schools - a more natural geographic fit.
Move KY to the West - they have a great rivalry with LSU and Ole Miss.
GT in the East - where they can keep their year to year game against UGA.
Iowa State to the Big 10 (big 11) - natural fit and rivalry with Iowa - and now Big 10 has 12 teams for a playoff. For those Big 10 folks still hoping for Notre Dame - screw them - they had their chance and want to go it alone - let them schedule weak Big 10 teams - the service academies and keep their big game with USC (I hope USC just clobbers them this year - again).
Good luck Spartan Dogs against Tech!!

Miami gave us a nice confidence booster for next week, but Georgia gets an extra week to prepare. Both coaches will be out to prove a point, and you can count on both of them having a couple tricks up their sleeves. Both teams are unreliable in performance from week to week, so the way I see it…One team will show up next saturday, and one team won’t…But it should be pretty obvious early in the game. Which team it is, we’ll have to wait and see.
Tech takes the lead, Georgia makes a run for it in the end but (hopefully unlike vs. Kentucky, Auburn, etc.) gets stopped. Go Tech!

As bad as I hate to admit it, there’s just something not right with the dawgs this year….With the injuries we’ve had, especially on the O-line, we should all accept an 11-2 year, top 10 finish and be happy. We are all miserable though…Funny what pre-season expectations can do. I don’t think this season has been much fun for anyone. Everybody needs to appreciate each win, regardless of the score, a W is a W. Witht that said. Ga Tech’s offense will be like what we faced with Auburn or Kentucky ramped up by 50….That scares me. Auburn has no passing attack to speak of, and we still struggled to stop them. This tech team is very well coached, and what they do, they do well. And again, this just doesn’t seem to be our year. If we sneak out a win next Sat, and win the bowl game, the LUNATIC FRINGE will need to silence the shouts to clean house among the coaching staff..and be happy with a great season…If Knowshon and Matthew come back, and we pull this same mess next year………..THEN it’s time to clean some house…

ACE…..We are talking about the offensive line, because it has been an issue. With all the shuffling that has happened there, they have done admirably, no doubt about it. But it’s still hurt us along the way. We couldn’t run the ball at all against the better defenses (Florida, S.C., Alabama). And our redzone efficiency has been horrible against the upper tier defenses….A lot of missed assignments, being the main culprit…Again, the defense has just as much blame, no argument there. But the 8 turnovers in the 2 losses didn’t help the D much, the offense came on the field, couldn’t establish a run, and turned the ball over…..Bama only scored 10 pts in the 2nd when UGA’s offense finally started showing some signs of life…The defense played GREAT and yes, I said GREAT in the first half against Florida…….Thank your offensive woes for the result in the 2nd half…

Excuses. Remember the game 8 or 9 years ago when Georgia scored but the refs didn’t call it? That ref was later suspended and fined. That would be a W for us as well. I also specifically remember a flagrant pass interference that wasn’t called on Tech last year. The point is, any team can argue they should’ve won games because refs didn’t make the correct call. I prefer it this way. I would rather Tech come off their best game of the season coming into our game, because hopefully it will MOTIVATE our defense to FINALLY step up and be disciplined!!! we haven’t done that once all year, and if we lay another egg on defense again, Tech will put 40 on us, and it could be ugly.
However, if by some miracle we do play disciplined, it should be pretty easy to win this game; we have to force them to throw. Getting a double digit lead is key.
First to 40 wins, I predict.

Ok I have to say something here. Would you UGA fans please go back and look at the stats for the GT vs. UNC game? Tech had close to 350 yards of rushing in that game. Yes, they turned the ball over 4 times which ultimately lost the game for them, but they were moving the ball consistently the entire game. If they can figure out how to quit turning the ball over, UGA will not have an easy win this year.

It is at least nice to see Tech and UGa fans talking x’s and o’s instead of the name calling crap usually posted on these blogs.
This should be one hell of a game. Georgia has a phenomenal QB and WR’s, both teams have exceptional RB’s. Demaryous Thomas for Tech is possibly a key. He dropped a sure TD last night and he’ll have to be a clutch receiver the few times Tech throws the ball. As much as I respect UGa’s offense, I think Tech’s D is much stronger. Our linebackers and secondary aren’t as good as they have been in past years, but with our D line, they really haven’t had to be. Cliched as it sounds, this game will come down to turnovers. I like Tech in a close one, 35-31 or something similar.

I am glad that Tech played so well last night, UGA didn’t need to be using the UNC or Gardner Webb game films to prepare. Tech played 3 quarters to Miami’s 4 and were very impressive.
UGA’s defensive speed will get them to the ball carrier, so it boils down to what they do when they get there… arm tackle or snot knock.
On a different note, I just love seeing Hines Ward on ESPN with some of the NFL’s greatest hits. That little dude is all heart and truly loves the game.

**The biggest problem with UGA fans are that they keep bringing up the past. And cant realize the present. Chan Gailey and Reggie Ball are not here anymore. That same easily intimidated, unclutch, divided group youve played the last several years isnt in existence. You now face a confident, passionate, clutch, well coached, tactful, unified team. This is present day, so stop focusing on the past.
And thats been your problem. You guys think you are entitled to championships for something that happened 30 years ago. You guys and Clemson have to be the only fanbases who think every year is THE YEAR and havent won a NC since Jimmy Carter was president. I mean you have the leading rusher, passer, and rciever in the SEC. So whats the problem? You cant use injuries as an excuse b/c Tech is just as injured. When it comes down to it, you guys have more talent on the field. But as far as coaching, you guys are going to lose that battle **

The game will be decided by turnovers and injuries. GT has lost three games this year; each time we had 3 or more turnovers. Our team has several key injuries and very little depth (Dwyer, OL, DB, QB & LB corps). UGA has problems at the OL, but they have quality depth due to solid recruiting classes. Even with the injury issues, I think GT has a chance to win as long as we keep the turnovers to 1 or less.
Speaking strictly as a die-hard GT fan, I hope Stafford throws several interceptions so that GT can secure a victory and end the UGA win streak at 7 (this way GT will still hold the record of 8 straight wins against UGA!). I also hope Stafford decides to go to the NFL with his friend Mr. Moreno; they would be difficult to stop as seniors with a more experienced OL! I think they will both take the money and run; can you really blame either one of them?

Several years ago when Georgia Southern ran the same offense they gashed UGA for more than 300 rushing yards. I’ve always suspected if Paul Johnson got his much deserved opportunity to coach a BCS program he would be very successful. Now CPJ has the talent and depth he never had at I-AA GSU. The fact CPJ is at Tech means the Tech-UGA rivalry will GROW and UGA cannot look beyond Tech any longer.

Now this is what a fan blog should be - discussion of the issues rather than just rah-rah junk and trashtalk.
OK, here’s my take: This game will come down to how well the Tech O-Line can execute against the UGA D-Line and backers.
If Tech can execute as well as they did last night, Tech has an outstanding chance to win, but it still will not be easy. Can’t lay the ball down. Also, Nesbitt has to play the whole game, and play well. CPJ commented after the game that he thought Nesbitt’s decision-making was “almost perfect” - which is a far cry from how he has assessed Nesbitt’s prior performances.
CPJ is also smart enough to withhold a few wrinkles from view.
I’ve been wrong before, but I do expect Tech will have to throw it some or else there will be 8 or even 9 in the box. But if one or both of the UGA safeties start crashing, watch out for Demarious Thomas on the deep post!
Can’t wait for this game… should be fantastic!

Quite an impressive performance by Tech vs Miami. UGA ‘s D hasn’t been able to stop anyone lately so look for Tech to run the ball and rack up some yards. UGA should be able to outscore Tech with its versatile offense and win a high scouring game. Look for the over and under to be high 70s or 80. Don’t forget that UGA has 2 weeks to prepare and get healthy.

UGA should be worried that they will play a game like the ones against Auburn and Kentucky. If they do, Tech will win by two touchdowns. If Tech plays like they did against UNC, the Dogs will win by three touchdowns or more. This is an instate rivalry where anything can happen. The best team on paper does not always win.
The Dogs have plenty of time to get ready to defense this Tech attack, just like UNC did, If they do and Tech gives them help by fumbling the ball away this could turn out to be a long afternoon for Paul Johnson.
The Dogs are better than what Tech has been playing against in the ACC this season, so this offense is not going to roll like it did against Miami. But even with that said, the Dogs are not one of the elite teams in the country, they are beatable. That number one ranking at the first of the year has been completely forgotten.
Tech will need to play a near perfect game on both sides of the ball to win. The Dogs defense will need to shut down Dwyer and the offense with Stafford and Moreno should keep Tech’s offense on the sidelines with time consuming drives.
Tech never expected to have this many wins in the first season under a new coach with a new offense, so a win would be icing on the cake. Tech may not win this game but with the overall success of this season it will make a lot of Blue Chip recruits take a serious look at Tech for the future. That wont bode well for UGA down the road. Tech’s offense will only get stronger as Paul Johnson gets the offensive linemen and running backs he wants, and they will come when they see the kind of rushing yardage that they can pile up.
After all has been said, the Dogs will win this game because their passing game will eat up Techs secondary which will only make the running game that more effective. The defense will play well enough to hold Tech’s offense in check. Dogs will dominate and win by a bunch. For crying out loud, this is a home game for the Dogs, their not going to screw that up, the crowd will make a big difference.

The “G” stands for Georgia, you big dummy!
If Tech defeating Miami “opened UGA’s eyes” then those whose eyes were opened haven’t been paying attention this year.
When UGA wins the score is close, and our defense regulary yields large chunks of yardage. This could play in to Tech’s hands in they have a late lead.
I’ll stick with my tradition of no popping off and making wild predictions, but if UGA wins, it will be close. Ditto if Tech wins.
The saddest thing is that this game deserves better than the noon time slot. It should be a great game to watch.

You’re right coach richt coach like your at FSU, UF does respect their black players. Why, even after firing an AK47 in public most gator “fans” were willing to look the other way and allow him to play (because he was good). Many other UF “fans” were okay with the player who took his girlfriends credit card and used it after her death. I guess UGA needs to “respect” their players like this, right?
Before making ridiculous claims about UGA’s fans being redneck, take a spelling course so you can better make your point. Ignorant, totally ignorant.

So where’s the beef and speed? There it is. The SEC is a great conference but it just gets me p** when SEC fans talk to down to the ACC likes is D-II. Tech has shredded three Ds this year better than UGAs. They only have one OL from the original starting crew on the field. Other than Florida, this will be the best D that UGA has seen all year and hands down the best DL. Tech has started 14 to 16 FR/SO in every game this season so far, even with that youth on the field if this team is healthy, they will punish the UGA D all afternoon. And to top it all off, Techs coaching is light years ahead of UGAs. (there is a huge difference between coaching and recruiting!) No discipline, no coaching, and no toughness. Times are changing, all of the recruiting in the world doesnt mean anything without coaching, and you cant just “step-up” and play disciplined. Discipline is a trait learned and earned through self motivation and/or coaching. Anyway, wake up fans and do some homework. Nothing other than injuries will keep this game from going to Tech. They play smarter, work harder, and are better coached.

I’ve noticed a few comments relating back to GA Tech’s game against Gardner-Webb…For those who haven’t really followed GA Tech, Josh Nesbitt and Jaybo Shaw were both out for the game.
Calvin Booker started and played most of the game. He is not an option QB so the entire offense was trying to change for one game and everything was totally different than what they had been practicing since spring.
The offensive line was also totally decimated for that game.
I wouldn’t use Gardner-Webb as a measuring stick.

Take away the two best teams in the ACC and the SEC and compare all the rest. Tradition is dead peoples baggage!!! Stop toting it around and read every now and then. The parity is what it is but if you look at the numbers and watch a little football there is no comparison, the ACC destroys em. There building more high schools not colleges!!! That talent is going somewhere… The NFL says more is coming from the ACC than the SEC!!! Other than UF, Clemson and UGA have more talent than anyone in the south!!! What are they doing?? One coach got ran out of town and the other is on the verge of getting lynched by their bandwagon fan base if they lose to Tech next week!!! These are all facts, maybe not the lynching but all in all, the SEC is already on a level playing field and the media will soon catch up!! Hey, SMART GUY not SO SMART, you’re hilarious post missed a few key points:
This game is between UGA and Tech, not SEC versus ACC.
UGA has won 7 in a row over Tech.
The past 2 NCs have been won by teams from the SEC, and my money is on the Gators winning it again this year.
So the ACC puts more people in the NFL than the SEC? Big deal. UGA fans don’t have to go too far back to remember the abundance of talent Jim Donnan sent to the NFL, but with mediocre results at UGA.
I would love to have switched schedules with Tech this year. Had we done so we might still be undefeated and in the hunt for the NC.
Care to try again to make your point?
Whether you accept it or not, most objective individuals who not anything about college football will state the SEC is a better football conference than the ACC. That’s a fact, Jack!!

It is funny to see we can’t throw it-When you run for 472 yards what is the point to throw? Tech came out and hit the quick pass to the recievers to start the game just to show-I think the difference in this game is Tech’s D-line vs. UGA’s O line-That will be the tell all of this game-SPEED will not matter-SIZE will not matter it will be about assignments and who can maintain that-Over the last 3 games we are seeing CPJ input more into this offense-I’ve watched several of the UGA games on TV-Bobo is predictable. I am looking forward to the soft pitch ran at D. Morgan or M. Johnson-that should be interesting-Tech gets 4 or more QB sacks in this game-It will come down to turnovers-and if Tech can play like they did last night-They will win. THWG!

People keep throwing around the word discipline a lot. Most folks are referring to penalties… personal fouls, jumping offsides, etc.
The discipline I’m talking about goes a little deeper than that. Of course, penalties are important… can even change the game.
When you play against a triple option the term discipline refers more to assignments. Over-pursuit, lack of containment, too many stunts, or the wrong stunt at the wrong time… these things can get you killed against a triple option. If a cornerback, for instance, on the weak side of a play begins to cheat and breaks assignment, sets up a reverse for a game changer.
The scheme alone is enough to make your defense be disciplined and stay at home, but if you cheat, there is no better offense to run a halfback pass, reverse, or some other trick play. You better believe that CPJ knows all the wrinkles and will, like a good chess player, be looking several plays/moves ahead to try and set UGA up for the big plays.
If UGA can get out front by a couple of touchdowns through turnovers or whatever it will make it tough for Tech to stay within their gameplan. If Tech can control the ball and the clock, keeping the score close, we’re in big trouble.
I applaud Tech for doing as well as they have with a new system and first year Coach. It certainly could be a very good game, not only this year, but for years to come.
Go Dawgs!

Every year Dawgs talk the same bull! Well, there is a new sherrif in town & hell is coming with it. If those Dawg recievers don’t want to catch the ball, Tech is one of the leaders in the nation in interceptions! As long as we don’t have to beat the Refs & have any mysterios fumble returns, its on. Where’s the beef? four of Tech’s linemen are predicted to go in the 1st & 2nd round of the NFL draft. Get this, they’ve actually graduated! What’s Moreno’s rushing average against Tech? Oh, -3 yards & mysteriously my ankle is hurt! I’m coming to watch a game! I hope that I don’t get there & see an undiscplined team that averages 150 yards in penalties per game suddenly not get called for any. This is no 4 yards & cloud of dust offense! Against Florida State & Miami, they scored 21 points in 1 quarter. This year, you might want to be real quiet! Those that are smarter than you, might be leaving with a big smile on their face! You wouldn’t want to make your Boss or future Boss mad. With Johnson, the tide will turn & maybe ya’ll can call ole Reggie to watch it with you. Oh, & the best thing about Tech’s passing game, when they throw it, the recievers catch it! Good luck!

This is the first time i’m worried about our DC this season. This wont be like defending against Florida or any other team we played, and now that GSU lost the option we had no warm up game for this set. Our scout team is WAY to slow to try to mimick GT’s Flexbone! We wont be able to stop them and I really hope we dont stack the box cause that just gives away break away plays against these guys. We must rely on them turning the ball over once or twice and we MUST score every chance we get or our streak will come to a crashing hault and after getting our a* kicked by alabama and florida I just cant take that this season!

Dan, I don’t recall the “lucky bounces” you mentioned, but it may well have happened. What I do remember is a blown call by an official over 7 years (that’s 7 wins over Tech) when Jasper Sanks supposedly “fumbled” the ball near the end zone at the end of the game, securing Tech’s victory. The replay clearly showed his knees were down, but replays were not used back then. Coulda shoulda woulda! Get over the “lucky bounces”.
Now, Dwyer is a great back, and he may well be the best back we see all year, but I’m hard pressed to believe he’ll kill us the way the two bruisers at Bama and LSU did. Seems we have a tough time with the XL backs.
You’ll hear no excuses out of me regardless of the outcome of this year’s game. I hope UGA wins, but nothing surprises me anymore.

I think the Dogs will win, but it’s a real compliment to Tech that we’re even considering the possibility of a loss.
No doubt Tech is much improved over last year and beating expectations. UGA, on the other hand, is performing under expectations. The Dogs are the best of the two but - I hate to admit this - I’d rather be the team that is performing above expectations and, to a degree, even performing above the strength and talent level of its personnel.
Maybe there will be a lesson in this for UGA - I hope so (although I do not want that lesson to be punctuated by a defeat from Georgia Tech).
One of the terrific things about college football is that emotion and caring does make a big difference. As a UGA fan I admire what has happened at Tech.

Hey Bama Stan Idiot,
If UGA is MSU then Bama is illinois. that makes you Illini-tide.
Your program despite its great run under the Bear, is and underachieving after thought since the mid 90;s. You haven’t beaten auburn in how many years and you bash UGA who owns a 7 game winning streak over its in-state rival.
Bama is elite for one year and we are all supposed to swallow your blather ? I think not.
2002 13-1 2003 11-3 2004-10-2 2005 10-3 2006 9-4 2007-11-2 2008-9-2
compare that to Michigan state and your comparison is exposed as the joke that you are.
now compare Bama records to MSU or to Illinois and you have a better comparison.

SMART GUY not SO SMART, seems I remember a “small with no beef” running back named Barry Sanders being a pretty good back. Many, many other examples of “small with no beef” NFLers. That’s a weak argument.
Now, to further my argument (using simpler language), the NFL had the following stats about which conference had the most opening day starters by position:
QB - SEC
RB - SEC
FB - Big 10
WR - Big 10
TE - SEC
OT - Big 10
OG - SEC
C - tie between SEC, ACC, and Big 10
Overall offensive starters - SEC
DE - SEC (in a landslide the report says)
DT - Big 12
OLB - ACC
ILB - SEC
CB - SEC
Safety - tie between SEC and Big 12
Overall Defensive starters - SEC
I guess this explains why the last two NCs were won by the SEC.
No thank you, simpler language not needed.

Tech wins this year, and the streak ends. Martinez and Bobo’s predictability will bite them in the arse, and Richt will have to make a decision(s) that he doesn’t want to have to make. Georgia boosters will call for changes. Martinez will be toast, and Richt may have to consider taking over the playcalling again. Tech will play “keep away,” and Georgia will have a very limited number of opportunities to get any time of possession. As someone mentioned above, Georgia’s ability to hit long plays may cause some harm. I want nothing more than for this streak to get to eight, but I don’t see it.

BobDog, The Gardner-Webb game was due to 3 things. 1st and most importantly, we were without Nesbitt and his backup, Shaw, forcing Senior Calvin Booker into a starting role. Calvin is a good kid and we love him, but he is a 6’4 250 lb quarterback who transferred here from Auburn under Gailey. He is the exact opposite of what one would imagine a option qb to be.
2nd we didn’t take them seriously. 3rd I still don’t know where Gardner-Webb is, but they had been holding opponents to 40 yards a game rushing coming into that game, and when your triple option becomes a “hand it off up the middle every play” offense against a team like that, it doesn’t bode well.

Suck East Conference, I enjoy ignorant comments like yours. You trash the SEC conference because of it’s out of conference opponents, yet the #1 and 4 BCS teams are SEC, as well as #11 and 18. Yes, this is a down year, but most conferences would kill to be in this position in a down year.
By the way, what team do you root for that plays such outstanding out of conference opponents? Do respond.

BossRoss90, quit with the excuses already. Tech played a bad game, but you won. I’m a UGA fan and we haven’t won “pretty” all year. That being said, I’ll take our 9 wins so far with no apologies. I think what Tech has done this year has been remarkable. No excuses, no apologies. Just think what you’ll be like in about 3 years. The ACC won’t be able to hold you.

Moe Ron should change his name to dumbass! Just like every other UGAy fan you dont pay attention to facts or details, you dont read, and you dont keep up with whats going on.. You really think, top to bottom that the SEC, this year, is better than the ACC or the BIG 12? Top to bottom, think hard, hell, who ties your shoes?? You drive to work??? Your really gonna spread your seed??
People try to talk about this year, these teams and a little bit about how the football gam works and you bring up “7 years!” Clearly your a dumbass!! If anything, muster up a little bit of knowledge, maybe some sense and explain to ALL of us on this blog how the SEC is so much better than everyone else. Please!!! Maybe a little bit of your UGAy bs can help all of us people who read and go to these games understand how all of this bs your spitting makes sense. Take all the time you need!! Dumbass!!

That being said, the dawgs defenders aren’t discpline enough. I hate to say it, but we really might lose. The offense better score a ton.

KG, your mastery and eloquence of the English language is astounding!
Let me attempt to weave through your tapestry of profanity and ignorance.
Most objective persons with slightest knowledge of College Football will say the SEC and the Big 12 are the best two conferences in the country this year. Most years the SEC is regularly mentioned as one of the best - if the THE best - conference. Ignore everyone if you will, but it’s the truth.
The SEC has 4 teams in the top 18 in the latest BCS rankings. As of November 16th, the highest ranked ACC team was #22 North Carolina. Ignore the facts if you will, but it’s the truth.
Who ties my shoes? Yo mamma!!
Do I drive to work? No, I take a leisurely walk to a spare bedroom where I have an office. Your morning commute, or you tiny cubicle, may be grinding on you. Ignore this fact if you will, but it’s the truth.
Am I going to spread my seeds? No, not anymore. I have three extremely bright, staight A, children. Two have finished college and are quite successful. The other is on her way to doing the same. Thank you for asking. Ignore this fact if you will, but it’s the truth.
I didn’t say the SEC was “better than everyone else”. I just said it was better than the ACC. Look at the BCS rankings. Ignore this fact if you will, but it’s the truth.
You used the term “dumbass”. Perhaps you should stop looking in the mirror so much and getting into discussions with “that other person”. Ignore this fact if you will, but it’s the truth.
Did I accomplish this quickly enough for you?

Several people have pointed at the UNC game as an example of how to stop the option.
Go back a couple of weeks, and read what CPJ said about how the entire team executed in that game… too many missed assignments to count, very poor execution, the worst game they’d played this year by far.
If you think that UNC out-schemed GT in that game, or had better athletes, think again. GT beat itself that day with poor execution.
Since then, there has been a “come to Jesus” recognition by both sides of the ball that they can’t just come and play, the offense can’t win games just by lining up in a formation, they have to concentrate and execute, every person, every play. You saw some of those results last night.
When they do that, they’re fun to watch….
I hope they execute as well on the 29th. I think they will…

Did you actually watch the UNC game? Or bother to look at the line for the game? UNC didn’t stop us, we ran 350+ yards on the ground… What stopped us were fumbles in the red zone. In all of GT’s losses, it’s been more of GT beating GT than other school stopping the option… Lately GT has shown that they know how to hold on to the ball… I think that should bode well…
Looking forward to a hell of a game next Saturday!

Richt needs to be on the refs all game long to call those illegal blocks by Tech’s OL!
I too had not been able to see Tech play much, they looked real impressive last night but at the same time Miami looked horrible.
UGA has been good against the run for the most part with DE’s lack of pass rush they’ve gotten pretty good at maintaining containment. Our LBs should be able to help on the 2nd level where my concern is if we allow them to get to DB’s.
I think time of possession will be critical because both teams will want to keep the other O off the field. Turnovers will be a key.
After last night Tech may be over confident & that may have fried the Dawgs up which could play a factor in the game.

We can talk about the team I root for, but first let us discuss the issue at hand, The SEC weakazz schedule.
You have 5 or 6 built in wins (your bottom feeders) and pad your OOC schedule with fluff.
The SEC has a good OOC record, unless we consider who the play,. 20% of the teams are Div 1AA. The SUCK EAST beats up on weak schools like the Citadel to pad their pathetic record. You are 0-2 against OOC teams that are currently ranked in the top 20.
Why don’t you check the record and tell me who you beat.
By Moe Ron
November 21, 2008 3:40 PM | Link to this
huh Moe Ron, many colleges, not just those in the SEC, play weaker OOC opponents. However, if we played in the ACC we wouldn’t need to schedule soft OOC opponents because our schedule would be cluttered with soft IN conference opponents. Starting to get the picture?

With 6 built in wins against the in conference trash, Tenn, Aubarn, Vandy, tuckey, Arky, … Then add 3 games for the Div 1AA and OOC fluff, that give you 9 wins. We’ll guess it isn’t to big a deal to win 10 or 11 in the SEC. He!! if you lose more than 1 you must really suck.
Now put that in a pipe, pull the pr!ck out of your mouth, and smoke it.

Some random game thoughts on the game:
-SEC vs. ACC doesn’t mean squat in evaluating this game. It may help in evaluating long term trends, but this game will be what it will be.
-Turnover differential will be ther greatest single determinant as to who will win this game.
-Georgia clearly has the better talent on offense, particularly at the skill positions. However, GT has a couple of backs that can take it to the house if they get loose.
-GT’s injuries are more problematic than Georgias because they do not have the depth of talent.
-Contrary to Ace’s evaluation, Georgia’s offensive line has not payed particularly well or as well as they need to play. However, they have put forth a solid effort considering the juggling due to injuries. there is a difference between playing hard, which they have done and the results, which have not been satisfactory.
-Tech’s offensive line injuries have similarly affected their play and the results have not been consistent or satisfactory either. Johnson has noted that his best five linemen have never played a down together this year due to injury.
-GT’s defensive line is better than Georgia thinks it is. Thie linebackers and secondary (with the exception of Burnett) are vulnerable, particularly if the DL does not put pressure on UGA.
-Burnett is a superstar exception to the devensive backfield generalization. Being a Tech fan, I would consideer having him play man on man on AJ Green the whole game in order to take Green out of the game. My intuition is that for every Green touchdown, Burnett, the natinoal leader in interceptions, gets a pick off. Probably a good thing Johnson is coach and not me.
-Johnson is probably one of the best coaches ever at making adjustments during the game and particularly during halftime. When you think about pitting him against Martinez, you have to be worried if you are a Bulldog.
-Georgia is second in the nation in penalties and has struggled with proper game discipline. They better hope thay have turned that around during the extra week of practice. the fact that GT played on a Thursday, lessens Georgia’s advantage in haveing the “off” week.
-GT struggles with the low blockiing penalty - 15 yard variety - and that can kill drives and kill Tech at critical times.
-NO ONE knows how this game is going to end up and anyone who says they do are full of bullpup bull**.
Going past this game, in the long term, GT is going to get better because of Johnson. Since 1980, Georgia has consistently underperformed considering the talent they recruit. While better with Richt, that trend appears to be holding. Unrealistic fan expectations and calls for change for the sake of shange continue to drive the problem.

KG,
How about a 1-9 record for the acc in BCS games? Compare that to the SEC and where do you stand? Oh that’d right…those are historical records and cannot be taken into account since some asinine poll says the acc is better. Did I make your argument for you because I don’t want to let historical facts get in the way. By the way, try using spell check and grammar check before hitting the send button. What is it about the South and being so identified with the conference one plays in, rather than the team you root for?
I know that most years the teams we root for are going to lose 1 or more and won’t play for a championship. But it seems that, the south automatically switches to this my conference will win mind set. Why?
When I go into Heritage Hall and look at all the Trophies, they aren’t awarded to the conference; some are awarded by the conference, but they are all awarded to the Team.
SEC, ACC, Big 10, PAC 10, Big 12, who cares. I want my team to win.

C’mon, people, it’s college football…it’s supposed to be fun, remember? BTW, I’m a Tech fan, and proud of the big win last night. I want to add one more thing to the game as well. Since the game is in Athens Tech gets to bring ACC officials who have seen Tech enough this year to call the “chop block” Last night’s call was the correct call as a man hit the guy up top while the other cut him down low-I know CMR is going to try to get as many of those calls he can-This is where it hurts the dawgs as one of the most flagged teams in the country. Still say this is going to be a good game to watch-Tech has been in a lot of these games with a chance to win over the last few years-this year I do like our chances-Also the game where the Ref called the fumble-that was an SEC crew!

RHETT-I guess as a dog fan you are speaking from experience? That would be the Bama game right? The dawgs competed for a half? I guess that is the moral victory on your side? Nothing you can say on the FL game-only less traffic minus all the UGA fans leaving at half time! And yes what can Tech fans say UGA has beat us 7 years in a row-But no Dawg fan and most if not all Tech fans did not think we would stroll into Athens 8-3 with the new coach, new offense after the spring we had-and 16 fresh and soph- well here we are and yes at least now I know if the Jackets play like they can they will run on UGA all day long-Yes Miami who was Avg 107 yds a game to the rush-Oh yeah that’s right they play in the weak ACC-correct me if I’m wrong-They held the Gators to 87 yards? And what did the Lizards do the dogs? No before you say anything-I’m not comparing Tech to FL- Miami gave up 87 yds to the Gators- Miami gave 472 yards to the Jackets-You can’t argue with that-Tech has been in every game this year except the Tar Heel game and that was due to 3 turnovers. No excuses just want took place. CPJ has said it is all about having your team in position to win the game at the end. I will say for the UGA nation-oh my if the nerds do come in there and beat you? What will ya’ll say then? For the first time in 7 years I like the Jackets odds in this game- THWG!!!

You know dawgies, a buddy of mine asked me the other day what I considered the most stupid of all dawg attributes. After pondering a dozen possibilities, I finally decided that the “Florida is our biggest rival” things was the stupidest. How stupid would we think Grenada was if they consider the US to be their biggest rivals, or the New York Nationals if they thought Harlem Globetrotters were their’s?
Yeah, dawgs. Florida is your biggest rival. And LSU is Tulane’s biggest rival. And LSU fans laugh at Tulane’s sorry a* about like Florida fans laugh at you pathetic dawgs.
I’ve got a bet with a few guys as to which will occur first: a dawg victory over their “biggest rival” or a simultaneous solar and lunar eclipse. Since both are physical impossibilities, we gave even odds.
Oh, and how’d that black-out work out for you fellers?

As a Georgia fan I was happy to see Tech look so awesome last night while whipping up on Miami. I unlike most Georgia fans always pull for Tech unless they are playing Georgia. This year a win will be far more appreciated since Tech is a far more formitable opponent than usual. The state championship is going to be a good one this year ladies!!! I can’t wait!!

Enough with the black out crap already. Georgia is 2-1 in games in which they have called for a “black out”. The “black out” had nothing to do with winning or losing.
But at least we can always sell-out Sanford Stadium. We’d even do it on a Thursday night……..unlike our nerdy neighbors to the west.

The Dawgs can’t tackle! If Tech gets in the secondary it’s all over just like Ala. The Dawgs just don’t have any TRUE GRIT. That starts with recruiting agressive tough players. That’s why they quit in the second half. Whatever happened to “finish the drill”. Hell, finish the game! Coaches are to blame for babying them.

i LOVE all the talk about conference vs. conference! who cares?! last i checked, as a whole, they never play each other. i recognize that some conferences are ‘stronger’ than others. i respect the calibur of the sec. however, if anything, we’ve learned that the most important match up is the NEXT team on the schedule. uga has won the past seven games against tech. big deal! tech has been there, done that! uga has the edge in the overall win/loss record vs. tech. ummmm? go dawgs? uga has won one national championship! when?! in 1980?! tech has four! the latest being in 1990! who cares?! this is 2008! there IS a new regime in the atl! with it, there is a new attitude! tech has surprised the nation with their 8-3 record THIS season! if they surprise uga, then it’s a shame on UGA! the coolest thing about college football is that you never have any definites prior to game time. ANY team can rise up and beat ANYBODY at ANY given time! this won’t be the case THIS YEAR; tech is a different beast! they’ve gotten a taste of blood and they’re here to stay! the streak has a great chance of ending here! uga should have learned by now that counting all your chickens before they’ve hatched is a silly way to live….you always come up short. this SHOULD be a good game! don’t let those jackets sneak up on ya, else you’ll find three blow outs on your season!

I dont think we have a chance……Look who we have barely beaten SC,UK,UA,UT, compared to who they have manhandled, FSU,Miami,BC,MissSt. The fact is we dont have the speed or discipline to keep up with the Jackets
The only reasons they have lost is because of depth, their best players get injured and they have to suit up student walk ons.

Tech had over 10,000 seats they could not sell to the biggest game in the Paul Johnson Era last night.
Not only did Tech not sell out, but over 100 recruits mostly from the area was there to see that not only could Tech not sell out a home game - the biggest home game in the Paul Johnson Era - but also they saw first hand how over half the stadium would not even where a white shirt on the outside of their clothes.
A total abject failure.
You can also absolutely know that there were no wide receivers, no tight ends, no quarterbacks and nothing but running back skill players who watched the game as a recruit - unless they were planning on attending Miami of Florida who is also an abject flop of a football team for the last entire several years with a 12 win 13 loss combined record for the last several seasons combined.
Georgia Tech is Number 116 in the nation at passing the football.
Because every receiver, tight end and quarterback gave up on Georgia Tech when Paul Johnson took over.
3 yards and a cloud of dust, doesn’t make for good fan attendance - does it ?
Despite the fact that Georgia Tech’s Strength of Schedule all season this year is not in the Top 25 SoS according to the Official NCAA SoS, Tech has managed to lose to 3 teams none of whom are ranked, and all 3 of whom are in your own Stinking ACC Coastal Division.
And, you come running in here to say that Georgia Tech can win the ACC CHUMP ionship still.
BS.
Not that there is even a ranked team in the ACC, because there is not.
As soon as any ACC team gets ranked Number 25, you ALL LOSE.
Mid-American Conference BALL STATE should have the ACC automatic BCS bid, ranked Number 15.
Utah, BYU, TCU all 3 in the Mountain West Conference should have the ACC automatic BCS bid, ranked Number 7, 14 and 16.
WAC Conference Boise State ranked Number 9 should also have the ACC automatic BCS bid.
The ACC is a total joke of a conference and should have to give up its automatic BCS Bowl bid - no one would go to that game either.
Why do over 3 million more fans attend SEC games than ACC games with the same number of teams and games ?
Duh.

Not everyone wore white because tech doesn’t need the masquerade! how’d that last ‘black out’ work out for ya?! tech doesn’t get a lot of press because all the journalist went to dawgville! school size is the biggest issue, but let’s let that dead dawg lie. three yards and a cloud of dust?! you might want to recheck THOSE numbers! tech will get all the receivers they need. in the end, players want to win and tech is paving a great path of consistancy in THAT department! at tech, these invisible receivers will get a great education AND have a better shot at playing in the pros! after all, they’ll be playing in the acc! lastly, WHO ends a post with ‘duh’?! does middle school STILL start the day off in homeroom?! go to bed, get a good education and let us know when your **s drops!

If it was already blogged, it was blogged by but I. For I am the 1 who blogged it, after I first studied it, and know it.
Tech has no bragging rights.
None.
Tech has not overcome the rankings of UGA.
Tech is NOT UGA.
Tech never will be.
Tech never has been.
There are six (6) NC listed in the Official NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision Records Book for both UGA and Georgia Tech and the polls who have ranked UGA 6 times NC in football are all the very exact same polls which have ranked Tech NC 6 times.
Except that Tech has NEVER ever Won even 1 Final AP Poll National Championship.
The vast majority of the Tech grads are (1) Male (2) Asian (3) Those who for their entire time on campus, never witnessed a game in which Tech beat UGA in football.
As for your conversation of Receivers, that you say Tech will get as many as she needs…
Tech NEEDS no receivers, nor quarterbacks who can throw to them, nor Tight Ends to catch passes - for Georgia Tech does NOT and will NOT throw the football. This is known by the fact that Paul Johnson does not believe in the forward pass.
But, he does believe in turnovers. Lots of them. And, he believes in playing cupcake strength of schedules.
You talk of UGA being blown out by # 1 Bama and # 3 Florida.
Tech has NOT even PLAYED a ranked team, nor has Paul Johnson EVER PLAYED AGAINST a Number 11 team, ever.
We discuss football here. Georgia Tech’s football team has a WORSE ACADEMIC PROGRESS RATE than UGA’s football team.
And, you lost 6 Scholarships for the 2007-2008 season in football for ACADEMIC CHEATING.

Moe Ron et al. —
I don’t think anyone’s making excuses for the Gardner-Webb game. Everyone would freely admit the we underperformed in that one and were lucky to pull it out in the final seconds. The point any Tech fans are making regarding that game is that UGA would be remiss to use it as a reason to say, “Meh. They won’t give us any trouble.” The fact is that it was Tech’s third-string QB in that game. And a bigger, more lumbering pocket passer is not ideal for this offense. If the Bulldogs prepare for Tech expecting a repeat of Gardner-Webb, they’ll be in for a shock.
As to the conference strength, I’ll admit to being a little biased, but I think UGA fans are overestimating the SEC while selling the ACC short. I’m not about to say the ACC is tougher than the SEC. I’m just saying it may be tougher than many believe it to be. No, it doesn’t have a highly-ranked team. Three-loss teams don’t make the top ten as a rule. If you look at all the ACC teams’ losses, however, they have basically all come against each other. Team A beats team B beats team C beats team A. It’s called parity, and it’s not that easy to gauge at what level this parity is occurring. It could be that the ACC is very strong, but since they all keep beating each other no team has a record that looks impressive and therefore no team that’s ranked highly.
We all know that past performance is no indicator of future performance; any given team has the potential to beat any other given team on any given day. Yes, Tech had trouble with Gardner-Webb. UGA had trouble with Auburn. Auburn barely beat Mississippi State, who Tech pretty much dominated fairly early in the season when the offense was still pretty new. If he Bulldog players go into the Tech game with the attitude that it’ll be a cakewalk and Tech decides not to shoot itself in the foot, things might not go so well for UGA…

Very good points, Chip. I thought the exact same as I watched the game. This game against Tech has a big impact on the state of football in the Peach State for the coming year.
Tech/UGA is always a big braggin rights game but I think this one takes on a different tone this week. Will a “dissapointing” UGA season/team still beat a Tech team or will Tech make a big leap in recruiting with a win?

Tech does not recruit like UGA. Uga has all the fans and players. They also have the pre-season National Championship. Tech has one big advantage….heart. I agree with taco, it’s all about heart and playing with reckless (but controlled) abandon. Not crying for pass interference and instant replay reversals. It’s about throw out the records and how many stars you had coming out of high school and hit the other guy harder (and more often) than he can hit you. It’s about actually busting your a* for 60 minutes, instead of saying you busted your a* for 60 minutes in a Rivals.com interview. I absolutely hate Georgia Tech with every bone in my body, but they have the right man at the helm in Paul Johnson. The guy can win with less and he’s proved that at every stop along the way. And he will prove it in this rivalry unless the Georgia coaches decide to open a can of whoop a* of their own. That’s what’s been missing at UGA all year long and is what has cost them a $17,000,000 Bowl. Getting embarrassed by Tech Saturday will cost them a lot more than that! In my opinion.

I’ll say this,if the dawgs secondary play their usual game of standing around waiting for some else to make a tackle, looking pretty, playing tag, getting stupid penalties, they may be thinking Alabama had come back to Athens in gold and white. It looks as if the talented players, not all,but too many have got in their head that all they have to do is show up to win.If they don’t play smart team football they may have to visit Athens General after the game to be treated for all the bee stings.

Nothing to worry about. Does Tech recruit better athletes than GA? Everyone knows we’ve had top 5 recuiting every year for the last several years.
When has Tech ever been ranked in the top 10 recently in recruiting? Oh, so coaching does matter evidently.
Oh yeh, that’s right, we have a good excuse if we lose this year,”just too many darned injuries.” Nothing to do with coaching at all. WE’ll win every game next year if we don’t have any injury problems.

I was very impressed with Tech, cannot say the same of the dawgs over the past three games. I agree with some contributors to this blog that we recruit far superior athletes than do Tech, but it is not always showing on saturdays. It has got to be coaching. Johnny, I’d say back in BVG days, nobody was running anything close. Now, these guys have faced a lot of mobile qb and running options. It’s not going to be a total shock. The equalizer is going to be that GT hasn’t seen an offense as good as UGa can be. Hopefully they don’t have one of those 7 punt, 2 turnover days.

Apologies here. A bit off topic: Here’s some food for thought. If Richt and Tuberville are such great pals off the field, why not bring Tubs in as DC. The guy has a solid (ok, great) defensive mind and the ability to recruit for that side of the ball. It might actually be worth the demotion to have the opportunity to stick it to Auburn (among others) on a yearly basis. Willie doesn’t need to be fired, just demoted to his old job (linebackers coach I believe). What do y’all think? Totally out of the realm of possibility?

Historic territory for offensive stars
Georgia players lead the SEC in three major offensive categories — Matthew Stafford, Knowshon Moreno and A.J. Green in passing, rushing and receiving yards, respectively.
And if that is still the case at season’s end, it will be the first time in more than four decades that one team has had the league’s individual leaders in all three categories.
The last time it happened, according to the SEC, was 1966.
That year, Florida’s Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Steve Spurrier led the league in passing yards, while teammates Larry Smith and Richard Trapp led in rushing and receiving, respectively.

Sorry buddy! Thought “mama jokes” was just gonna put me on a level you could comprehend. You know, with your “bacca spittin’, PBR drinkin’, redneck” jokes! Irony is fun, huh? Don’t worry, I’m well armed for a battle of wits, my friend. You, however, are left empty handed. Just like when you put your hand in your pants! ;)

Let’s talk emotion. I don’t believe Tech can beat Georgia this year. Reason: The Dawgs will be ready. For some reason, despite all the looking down on “little brother,” and trashing Tech, UGA always takes this game very, very seriously. Tech, on the other hand, just came off a big win, and will have a hard time getting “up” for this one.

Irony would be a good choice of words, were it not that my statements in your direction weren’t in response to your, “i’d like to kick your….” comments. It’s cool. Glad to know you’re AT LEAST armed enough to move on to the OTHER middle school target for put downs; penile humor is ONLY a shade short of the hours of fun fart jokes ;0)

dcm, you got it right. UGA has had more time to prepare for this game than Tech has had. Why, I do not understand, but Georgia for years has been scheduling an open date before the Tech game. Tech has, on the other hand, played a game the week before meeting Georgia. Does it have something to do with the pressure of postseason academics?

tech has alot to lose in this game!! you will see a tech team that is skyhigh for this game and a solid gameplan with cpj at the helm. MATCHUPS TO WATCH IN THE GAME, FAVOR TECH! gt defensive line according to espn mel kiper has 3 possible 1st rounders or atleast off the board by the 40th pick! that is true. we have perhaps the best d line in all college football. uga off line will not meet this challenge. dwyer is just as nasty as moreno and is acc top rusher! we dont need to pass much when you rank #6 in the nation rushing now after hanging 500 yards rushing on the # 10 total defense in the country. we put up great numbers on fsu top ten rush defense as well. the fact is, we just have killed these teams with fast defenses. uga is fast, and i like how we matchup with a terrible defense in uga. noway you guys will stop this offense unless tech beats itself and turns it over a few times, and uga will win easy if this happens! our pass defense ranks #9 in the nation and you can forget stafford having a banner day in the air. techs front 4 will bring presure without us bringing the linebackers and they will sit in coverage or a zone which will give us the advantage. uga does not scare me at all! we beat the crap out of miss st this season when most teams in your sec struggled with them. that was with our backup qb who was a freshman! we would have beaten them by 90 if nesbitt would have played. we were missing 3 defensive starters against miami and two lineman on the o-line are out. i look forward to this game as a statement game for tech, and we return the entire offense and 7 starters on defense to greet you in atlanta for next year! good luck stoping the train that will gash your pathetic defense! we will rush for atleast 400 yards dawg fans! your defense is not better than vt or bc or even fsu and miami. you will c next saturday what the future in this rivalry will be like for years to come!!

All season, I’ve been saying that I root for both teams to be undefeated when they meet since they both represent my beloved state of Georgia. It looks as though Tech finally has a coach who can bring a meaningful rivalry back to this storied tradition. Good luck, Dawgs. I think the Jackets are going to give all that you can handle this year. MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN.
Also, the Jackets have a real shot at playing for the ACC Championship since UVA and UNC both lost today. We need for either Duke or UVA to beat VT and we are in.

BuLLdawg wrote: There are six (6) NC listed in the Official NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision Records Book for both UGA and Georgia Tech and the polls who have ranked UGA 6 times NC in football are all the very exact same polls which have ranked Tech NC 6 times.
Go take a remedial high school course in math and learn how to count. Here are the facts:
GEORGIA TECH WON 6 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: 1990, 1956, 1952, 1951, 1928, and 1917. GEORGIA WON 5: 1980, 1968, 1946, 1942, and 1927. THE ONLY CONSENSUS NC WAS TECH, 1917. TWO OF THE DAWGS NC’S, 1968 & 1946, WERE NAMED BY ONLY ONE SOURCE OUT OF ~13. ALL OF TECH’S WERE MORE THAN ONE.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAADivisionI-Anationalfootball_championship
BuLLdawg also said Tech has NOT even PLAYED a ranked team… Duh, FSU, UNC, and Miami were all ranked on the Top 25 while Clemson, VT, & BC were ranked at some time during the season. Can’t you get any of your facts right? IDIOT!
BuLLdawg scribbled The ACC is a total joke of a conference and should have to give up its automatic BCS Bowl bid. Here once again are the facts: The ACC leads the SEC in overall rankings, top to bottom. The NFL drafted more players from the ACC over the past 3 years than any other conference, including the top 3, Matt Ryan, Calvin Johnson, and Mario West. The ACC leads the nation in graduation rates. The SEC is last. Finally, Tech has won more National Championships than the dawgs including the only consensus NC in 1917. The ACC is 3-3 against the SEC this year. Finally, Tech has a more illustrious gallery of coaches than Georgia: John Heisman, Wm. Alexander, Bobby Dodd, Bobby Ross, and probably Paul Johnson.

Typically you trash-talkers don’t counter any intelligent analysis with any accurate facts or insightful opinion except to spew obscene, disgusting trash talk. I know you are upset because of the underachieving dawgs whose AES have been chomped by Gators and whipped to shreds by Bama until they are Red, Black, and Blue. To paraphrase a previous dawg, while Richt has been at UGA we have seen the dawgs leading the national in criminal arrests, rapes in the student dorms, teachers attacked, and one of the lowest graduation rates in the nation. We’ve seen college course exam questions for your basketball players such as: “How much is a 3 point goal worth? How many halves in a game?” Hershel Walker was quoted in Sports Iluustrated as saying “I don’t want to leave Georgia early for the NFL because I haven’t finished coloring all my books yet!”

I am a Ga fan. But the season is shot. So is next year if there is not some coaching changes. Willie Martinez does not have a clue to what it takes to coach a defens and Bobo don’t know. All he know is a dive play or screen. And the disipline of this team is a joke. It is painful to watch them. So if it takes losing to GT to make CMR to pull his head out of his ARSE and get THe Ga nation a decent DC and OC then I say Go tech. Call it tough love but 11-2 is only a little better than 7-6 in my book. Ga fan are hungry for more and somebody is a sleep at the wheel. CMR needs to grow a set and make some tough but neccisary changes. Dawgs. I love ya but something gotta give. Tiered of being embarrased

I had doubts about the “WHITEOUT” esp. after UGA’s disastrous “Blackout” mangling by the Tide, but I thought it turned out great. I like the all white uniform’s of the Jackets since the golds all match. The same is not true of the gold pants; they don’t match the helmets or the golds of the top of the jerseys. Tech should either wear the all white both at home and away, or change the gold pants to colors and design that work better, or go back to the traditional home white jerseys and gold pants with stripes - except get the golds of the helmet and pants to match which they didn’t. The uniforms are important because recruits say it has an influence on which school they choose. I liked the all white effect in the stands as well esp. with the white pom-poms. It was a great idea made so much better by a great win.

To the Georgia Tech delusional fan who stated that the ACC loses to only each other, which is why [he states] that there are no highly ranked ACC teams :
The ACC has played some of the sorriest strength of schedules of any football conference in America again this season, and this and the resultant continuing attendance issues has resulted in the ACC Losing their football games and being ranked therefore where teams such as even Boise State have a beef that they and not any ACC team deserves the Automatic BCS ACC bid.
Virginia Tech Lost to that powerful Number 58 BCS East Carolina 7-4 at Home.
Florida State is about to be bounced from the Earth by in-state Rival Florida.
Maryland Lost by double-digits to that powerful Number 98 BCS Middle Tennessee State 5-6.
Preseason Number 7 Climpson Farmers got blown out by Alabama 34-10.
Of course, Climpson Farmers will be beat by in-state South Carolina who will end the season 9-4 and be ranked in the Final AP Poll Top 25.
Weak Forest Lost to that powerful No. 51 BCS Navy 6-4 at Home.
Weak Forest will also Lose to Vanderbilt.
N C State Lost to South Carolina 34 to Nothing.
N C State Lost to that powerful Number 54 BCS 6-4 South Florida 41-10 at Home.
Georgia Tech is going to Lose its 8th in a Row and Counting to UGA.
Miami of Florida Lost to their in-state Rival Florida 26-3.
Virginia Lost 7-52 to Southern California.
Duke Lost to Northwestern at Home.
In bowl game last year, Maryland Lost to Oregon State.
In bowl game last year, Climpson Farmers Lost to Auburn.
Georgia Tech Lost in Humanitarian bowl last year to Fresno State 40-28.
In bowl game last year, Florida State Lost to Kentucky.
In bowl game last year, Virginia Lost to Texas Tech.
In bowl game last year, Virginia Tech Lost to Kansas.
If UGA beats Tech Saturday morning, UGA will play in the $4.25 million dollar CapitalOne Citrus Bowl in Tampa against Top 10 Ohio State.
And, this is why Georgia Tech will play in the Music City bowl against Vanderbilt in Nashville TN not because some ACC team was the only team to beat some other Unranked ACC team.

After we dispose of Auburn, we are going to kick Florida up and down the field in the SECGG. You heard it here first folks. I expect another 31-0 performance. Mt. Cody will gobble up Tebow any time he attempts to rush up the middle. Bama will play mistake-free on offense and will have a +2 TO margin. 31-0 at the half again…yeah baby!

How I love to listen to the Jac-me fans gloat about a win over a very young and hapless Miami team. Overconfident and overlooking is how they will come into Sanford stadium next week. The Dawgs have a “Hob-nailed Boot” with Ga. Techs name on it.
The funny thing is that Ga. Tech can’t even sell their allotment of tickets to the game, for that matter, they couldn’t even fill their own stadium to their White Wash game or whatever they called it. Their fans definitely do not travel well.
Oh! and Did y’all know that CPJ never played any college ball or varsity high school ball? And he calls himself a coach? His luck is about to run out!

Win or lose, the past seven years have, easily, shut up the Tech fans, who have lived on the memory of 1949 - 1956, which all went to Tech, forever. The DAWG nation can live on the fact that we have won 39 more games, in the series, than Tech and, even if Tech wins, next week, they’ll need to win 38 more (in a row) to draw even.
They’ll need Moses and his rod, to pull that one off!!

“Preseason Number 7 Climpson Farmers got blown out by Alabama 34-10.”
Really? That’s what you’re going with? You’re using a loss against Alabama as evidence a teams sucks? Really? Preseason number 1 UGA got blown out by that same Alabama team 31-0 at halftime. If I had nothing else to go on other than the scores of those two games, I’d say that UGA was at least as bad as Clemson. And didn’t Tech beat Clemson this year?
“Miami of Florida Lost to their in-state Rival Florida 26-3.”
I didn’t realize that. Is this the same Miami that Tech just trounced 41-23, a score that included a couple of throwaway TDs against Tech’s third-string defense at the end? Is it the same Florida team that beat UGA by 39? Do you really want to use this as a comparison, because the implication is that Tech, against Miami, at least, is as good as Florida, and UGA, against Florida, at least, is worse than Miami. Do I really think Tech is Florida’s equal? No, of course not. But then again, neither is UGA.
And last year’s bowl games as evidence of this year’s team strength? Really?
My point before was simply that the ACC, as much as SEC fans like to think otherwise, is not some cakewalk of a conference. Is it as strong as the SEC? Maybe not, but again, on any given day…

i am a dawg fan but i hope tech whoop their butts because paul johnson is a better coach than mark richt. we need a championship team in this state and paul johnson will coach his players the right way to accomplish that.
johnson recruitt 2 and 3 star athletes where as richt recruitt 3, 4 and 5 star athletes which is an indication that johnson has the ability to get more out of lest quality athletes than richt can get out of high quality athletes.
hopefully when tech beat ga next week that johnson will start recruitting 4 and five star athletes.
ga can’t win a championship with richt as their hc and here are my reasons: 1)poor judge of character. he should have started dj shockley over david greene and kregg lumpkin should have been his #1 rb instead of using 3 rbs nearly every play.
2)he is more loyal to his coaches than the fans otherwise he would have hired a new defensive coordinator after they lost in the sugar bowl.
3)he is the worse game manager i have ever seen at uga. too many problems to mention.
4) moreno is by far the best athlete he has but richt act like stafford is. had he given moreno 25 to 30 carries per game our season would not have ended the way it has. the entire team would have fed off of moreno had clueless richt control the game the right way.
as long as nick sabans and meyers are coaching in the sec, mark richt will never win a championship because sabans and meyers know how to coach 4 and 5 star athletes and richt is just too clueless.

BECAUSE I’M RIGHT.
ILLINOIS=BAMA
Count the # of coaches in the last 15 years. Count the win loss record. Count the irrevelant bowls played in.
Illinois=BAMA
Florida 63 Bama 10
It will be worse than i thought it was going to be. Ya’ll couldn’t beat ole miss or us now.
BCS bowl for Bama ? Nope. you will lose so bad that it will be the 1st time ever that the #1 ranked team will be eliminated from BCS consideration because of a national embarrassment.

Well, It’s official. LSU FINALLY!!!! dropped out of Top 25. That translates to not one win over a ranked team, and two humiliations by Top 3 teams. YET I will continue to hear about the difficulty of our killer schedule. Would you finally agree that if we don’t beat Tech that this can only be seen as a disaster of a year??And if we lose to Tech and some of you continue to call 9-3 a “good year” would you say we deserve all we get in coming years?? I guarantee that 9-3 with no wins over ranked teams, two blowouts to exceptional teams and a loss to in state rival(if it happens) would not be greeted with Satisfaction at Oklahoma, Texas, Southern Cal, Florida, A;labama, Ohio State. Basically any program that EXPECTS to contend for National Titles every year.

Cuz, What do you think Texas, Oklahoma, Southern Cal, Texas Tech, Alabama, and Florida’s record would have been if they had played our schedule??? I’m betting The Big 12 teams and Southern Cal would now be 11-0 and either Florida or Alabama would have been 11-0 and the other 10-1 because they would have played each other. And NONE of those 6 teams would have been congratulating themselves on beating the teams we’ve defeated this year if they had ALSO got blown out by the only 2 GOOD teams they played all year. Agreed?? AND all this assumes we beat Tech, but reading the constant references to Donnan, even if we lose to Tech many will probably think this was an acceptable year at 9-3. Unbelievable!

Houston, I am not denigrating your comments. You have as much a right to blog on this space as I. I know many fans feel the way you do, I just do not count myself as one. I thought the pre-season number one was fun for argumentative purposes with other fans, but I thought we would wind up at 10-2. I just thought that we would be playing for the SECC with that record, and that is my dissapointment. Not enough for me to jump on a box and start yelling “Fire, insert name.” I just don’t get that wound up about a loss of a team I have loved most of my 49 years. Sure, I am a homer of the worst sense, but what would you expect of someone who had the great pleasure of driving part of the team from Stegeman to Sanford on Game Days. Man that was fun. That is just me. And yes I will be pretty happy if we beat Tech, go 10-2 and beat Ohio State in a to be determined bowl game. But as always, my opinion is no greater than yours and I can appreciate your passion for the game.

What would those other teams records be if they played our schedule? Well UF would definately have one less win due to playing themselves, so my guess is most would have the same record they have now. Especially seeing as how I think UF, though it pains me, can beat any team in the country right now. And when UF plays a big twelve school for the MNC, I will suk it up and pull for the SEC. Man has growing older mellowed me out.

Get your heads out of your rears and pull for your team and stop complaining about willie and bobo. Fact is the ACC is a sub par conference and always will be and it really doesnt matter what offense GT runs or if they put up 900 yards rushing, they will lose. Their offense is the same as GSU just a little bit bigger players. TECH will fall short and their fans will disappear as they always do. As far as I am concerned, all the whinning UGA fans can go to. Quick numbers for you…
17 carries for 45 yards: Knowshon’s stats from last year’s U(sic)GA-GT game. UGA had to depend on the running of Thomas Brown.
208, 4.48: Knowshon’s weight and 40 yard time (only one I could find)
228, 4.4: Dwyer’s weight and 40 yard time (again, only one I could find)
For those of you UGA fans who think that Knowshon is all that, why did he get stopped last year, and who would you rather not get hit by…Dwyer who’s faster and bigger, or Moreno. And if you don’t think Dwyer has the “moves,” watch a few of his long runs…
UGA will have to win with their passing game. A.J. Green is a great receiver, Massaquoi is pretty good too. But GT’s secondary is much improved from last year and the D-line will keep pressure on Stafford all night.
It will be a great game, but it will come down to which teams show up.

I love the Dawgs, I bleed red and black, however, I hope Tech scores 80 and both Willie Martinez and Mike Bobo are fired! Maybe losing by 80 points CMR will realize we needs a true offensive genius and a great D coordinator! Of the two who should be let go I feel for Bobo! He is and always will be a Dawg but he is stuck with CMR’s amateur offense with no chance to succeed. The UGA playbook stinks! Are you listening CMR? It kills me we still can’t beat Florida. Urban Cryer will possibly win two NC’s in 4 years. Nick Satan playing for a NC in his second year at Alabama. When will our team finally play for that elusive NC? The two years we were supposed to contend, our team severely under achieved! Its got to be coaching, we have the talent! GA fans are too passive. We must demand CMR start beating Florida and at least compete for an NC now, not in 15 years! Beat Florida on a regular basis, twice in 8 years don’t cut it! And beating Tech? That is like beating Appalachian State, except this year when UGA will lose!

Here you go dog(spit) fans. Some facts that we can all enjoy. THE SEC IS NOT AS GOOD AS THE ACC. Now all dog(spit) fans say I am crazy and say I do not know college football. THE SAGARIN RANKINGS WHICH ARE RANKINGS BASED SOLEY ON W’S AND L’S AND STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE RANKS THE ACC #2 AND THE SEC #3. THIS IS UNBIASED AND BASED SOLEY ON PERFORMANCE. Now shall we take a look at the recent UGA(spit) games? Close wins over Auburn who may not be bowl eligible. They also beat Miss. St. 3-2. GT beat them 38-7. Now Florida, oh wait did you all win that game? I can’t remember. Anyways UF beat Miami in a close game until the fourth quarter. GT blew them out convincingly. I leave you with this. Be scared, be worried, do not feel safe about this game. This is 2008 and nothing before 2008 matters. If you want to say it does then we will compare the number of National Championships anytime you feel the need to. Mark my words. GT wins 35-24. Now if you will excuse me I have to run to the bathroom and take a Georgia.

Hey you might understand football in your mind but playing only high school teams to get nominatied for the NC is not earning your way to the top. Maybe that is why the SEC has dominated your (listen now) O h i o S t B u c k e y e s. You do have a larger student population and I think I heard it is the largest in the nation. However, you do not have the heart. You only beat mediocre teams. You depend on the BCS system to win your NC. I remember the last NC you won against Miami. That was good call by the REF to give you another four downs at the one yard line. It clearly was a bad call and the game should have been over. It was a gift. YOUR buckeyes did not win it.

Yes a lots of concern with any team that can run or pass. We are not going to stop (slow down) anyone until we get the coach that can coach on defense. We also need to improve a lots on offence. It’s “TOO MANY FANCY PLAYS”. Find any basic 10 plays or so and try to get good at them. Too many fancy calls confuse our players, our OC hinself, but not to the opposing teams. Just look at the film with the fair mind, and you will see the complexity (simplicity) of the call. ???From a true dog fan/ will always look at Florida as our role model

I can tell it’s getting late and beer drinking is getting to its peak for tonight. Such garbage; you guys need to get a life and contribute to the real world. No logic is now being expressed other than just who can outdo the other with insults.
The game and answers of who, is better this year has yet to be decided, these teams have not played each other yet. Bottom line it does not matter who won last year or 8 years before, the real question is who wins Saturday. Both teams have won games this year and both will going to bowls. How many states have both major college teams ranked in the top 20, be proud of that.
Wait and see who wins then start the smack up again. You guys (students) who are now throwing out insults, have not done squat to win any of the games played this year, It was the students who play the game and busted their butts in the Georgia heat this year from from both schools who did that.
It seems that all you guys want to do is talk about how great your schools are, but just don’t do anything to contribute but throw out insults. So sad.

Take heart, it may all get answered on the field. Looks like UGA and OSU may get together in Orlando. How appropriate, the home of Mickey Mouse for the mickey mouse buckeyes.
Keep talking your smack, but let the big boys play ball. I’m rooting for UGA, but GA and GT could whip your slow butts up and down the field.
In closing, you probably won’t be reading this for a while since it’s your bedtime. By the way, when does your night watch end?

UGA should be extremely worried. Tech has beat two teams that are as talented at UGA (FSU and Miami). Where’s the beef? GT showed it can play with the SEC in the MSU game.
Being a Tech fan, I think UGA should win this game. They are more talented on both sides of the ball. However, I think Tech will win for the following reasons. 1) Georgia does not show up in big games (FU, Bama) 2) O-Line is banged up. Tech’s D line is nasty. 3) UGA defense is not very disciplined and gets slammed by big plays. GT offense lives on the big play
I predict at 34-24 GT victory. UGA gets little to no help in the running game, and Stafford faces a good 4 man rush and lots of coverage.

Clint, you’ve mistaken the definition of big game. In the SEC, they are all big games, except maybe Miss. State (who you use to justify Tech’s being able to play with SEC teams.HA!!). And if the “no play in big games” were true, you’re forgetting that Tech is not a big game. We wish it were a little more competitive for our strength of schedule factor but what can you do?

“Shut Up” …
AL and FL are great SEC teams, all others seat down and shut-up. Just because you “played ” those team doesn’t mean you are in the same league … check the scores. There are 117 (the rest of D1) teams that could hang with those teams as well as UGA did.
P.S. UGA struggled against Vandy on into the 4th qtr. DUKE beat Vandy! Duke is in the bottom of the ACC. Ole Miss beat FL in the Swamp, UGA got crushed by FL, guess what … Wake Forest beat Ole Miss.
PSS Clemson looked no worse against Bama than UGA. Clemson is in the middle to lower tier of the ACC,
Besides, Bama and FL, SEC is just “so so”. SEC has gone from 5 teams in the top 10 to 3 teams in the top 25. Where is Auburn, TN, LSU, Vandy? Troy had LSU by nearly 30 after 3 qtrs until the SEC refs allowed LSU to score 30 points in the 4th qtr to squeak a victory in Baton Rouge at NIGHT! A loss to Troy would have cost the SEC a lot of $$$$s in rankings, bowls, etc.
Got to keep the SEC Myth alive!

uga fans should remember that this “horrible” miami offense gave florida a much better game than uga did, yet, we beat miami much worse than florida did, and florida out it to uga
