UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

Bulldogs survive another scare
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Well, that was about typical of the Georgia-Auburn series, the oldest rivalry in the Deep South. The Bulldogs were up and down the field all day on offense but never could break free of the Tigers’ grasp. You knew it’d be close throughout and that it was. Georgia comes from behind with a mid-fourth-quarter TD drive for a 17-13 victory.
Game wasn’t decided until Kodi Burns’ incompletion to Ben Tate in the Georgia end zone with one second remaining. Nice coverage by linebacker Rennie Curran.
The Bulldogs aren’t going to get much credit for this win. Auburn’s down this year and they were supposed to win, people will say. Both those people aren’t familiar with this rivalry. These teams always go to war. The last two years, big wins by Georgia, were much more the exception.
We saw a lot of what we’ve seen from the Bulldogs this season — special teams breakdowns, porous defense, untimely penalties. But we saw also a Georgia offense that does what it has to when it has to and, for that matter, a defense that does as well.
So what did you think? Happy with the Dogs improving to 9-2 or are you ticked off they had to fight so hard to get it.

Wasn’t this supposed to be THE YEAR? Am I missing something here? UGA has lost two and looked pretty bland against two sub-par SEC teams in their last two games. Looks like all of the hype was simply that …hype. Nice season for UGA but c’mon, much more than this was expected. Really, this season should have been special, but it wasn’t. What a disappointment.

Not a great game at all but win is win. I’m glad we changed punt returners. I don’t like directional kicking and the defense needs to wrap up better. I think we need to recruit smarter football players. Somethimes we just don’t play smart. I’m glad we’re off next then bring on tech. Overall Richt is doing a good job.

Good defensive stand by the dawgs at the end, in Auburns case just goes to show you what saving timeouts is all about. Burns could have run for a first on 4th and 1 but didn’t have timeout to stop clock. Proud of our team knew Auburn would play us tough always do. How bout that catch by A J Green for the touchdown? Anyone watching the Florida/S.C. game? Now that’s how a team with as much talent on Georgia SHOULD play special teams…that’s how a team with as much talent as Georgia SHOULD play defense….that’s how a team with as much talent as Georgia SHOULD play offense. Richt needs to make some changes to his coaching staff, or we’ll never win another NC with him in charge.

Congrats to AU for a hard fought game. I expected no less. War Eagle, it looks as though Your O line is coming along and You have found a QB. I am not on CTT’s case, but IMO, Burns should have started all year. If You don’t name a starter You don’t have a QB. I know Burns made some mistakes early, but making mistakes is how a young QB learns. Look at Stafford’s freshman year. Matthew Stafford won another one for the Dawgs, I swear He seems to get better with every game!

All you complainers don’t get what college football in the South is all about. It’s all about rivalries- We beat another rival and that’s all that matters. Forget the media hype- that’s the kind of crap that got a rookie elected President. Dogs could have easily dropped 5 games this year because college football is that competitive. Florida is one of the only teams every year that you can say is a top tier team. Georgia is extremelty competitive every year and that consistency goes along way. Tech will be a tough game and they are due.

Need to change team colors to red & yellow to match all the penalties.
RIcht needs to redirect his ire away from the refs to his thuggish, undisciplined team and his pathetic, clueless coaching staff.
Never been this angry over a 9-2 team. Wish we had David Greene to work with these receivers and running backs.
Stafford - Big body & Arm / small brain & no heart. Probably too pre-occupied with who is gonna get the keg after the game

We are officially a bunch of homers. How in the heck can you say this was a good win. We played a sorry AU team that has one of the worst offenses in the SEC and we are happy with this??? What a bunch of horse shi..! If you are truly a UGA fan then look at this objectively…Mark Richt is not a top 5 coach. He will not win a NC with his current cast of coaches…why else would UGA fall from the # 1 spot in the country without a loss (earlier this season). His ego has led to him keeping inferior coordinators ‘cause he is scared of being outclassed (see Brian Van Gorder). I will not accept anymore excuses!

Thank you Lord for another win. Memo to Rodney Garner: Stop recruiting those thugs and punk defensive backs from the inner city Atlanta schools. South Ga. has plenty of players that actually know how to cover and tackle…with their hands, not their backs and arms. Memo to Dannell Ellerbe: Thanks for the great games in the past, but you’re a defensive liability now; stay out until you’re completely healed. Memo to John Fabris: Hit the road! Your special teams sx. Not to mention the defensive ends you have coached down. Memo to Mike Bobo: Watch a UF, UTX, UA, or any Div 1 NCAA (or Div 2-A) game and see the innovative play calling. What’s up with the Red Zone? Is CMR gonna demote you if you do something out of the box? Memo to Willie Martinez: Please play our best defensive athletes, not those upper classroom idiots like Prince, R. Jones, B. Evans, and CJ Byrd. How come they were all four and five star recruits, but now can’t cover Chip’s Ganny? Nor, tackle her. Memo to Mark Richt: Quit lining your bank account with ad money from Carpets of Dalton, and earn the $2.9M we’re paying you. Who do we need to f$%@ to eliminate all these dumb penalties, and what have you done to p%# off the SEC officials? And never, ever give a scholarship to a kicker…call the soccer coach. And, Memo to all those who live and die for the recruiting sites: Quit drinking the Kool-Aid. The true grade is 3 years after. Peace.

It is hard to figure out what is wrong with this team. There is a lot of talent, the players play hard and, I believe, that the coaching staff does the best they can. But I have never seen one team shoot itself in the foot as much as this team does. It is almost like the team has bad karma, and whatever bad can happen, does happen. I have always felt that Georgia’s special teams were adequate at best, but this year is a disaster, and it seems to be getting worse as the year goes along. I look forward to Georgia football all year. But I just want this season to end, hopefully with two more wins, but I am not sure that this team can scratch out those wins as the competition gets better. Hopefully, by next year, we can get some better karma, or whatever, and play up to our talent and abilities. GO DAWGS!!

I am a graduate of UGA. I attended during the “Hershel Walker Administration”, so, I know what a good football team is. Today’s Dogs are not that good. We were overrated to begin the season which I think hurt the mentality of the players. UGA has always believed the hype and NEVER lived up to it down thru the years. Now, our defense is the worst it has ever been. I know that maybe we don’t have the caliber of defensive players that we have had in the past, but you have to coach or play to your abilities. I don’t think our defensive coordinator has done a good job since he has been given the reigns. CMR likes to use 4th and 5th stringers plus walk-ons on special teams. Maybe he should put some of our better players on those teams.
I am just frustrated with the Dogs. They have so much talent ‘on paper’, but can’t get the ball in for a td in the red zone..have too many yellow flags thrown on them..and have a defense that cannot tackle.
I’ll still root for and support them, but I feel that I am being shortchanged as a fan.

Sigh….I guess I’ll start by saying that I love my dawgs. I will pull for them till the end no matter what. BUT, this has got to be the least intelligent (exluding a few individual players) team that has ever put on the Red and Black. We really do know how to mess up a sure thing better then anyone. This is hard to watch. I’m just glad we got out of there with a win somehow. Good luck against Tech.

Once again, we rely on the other team shooting itself in the foot.
The offensive line is young. Unexpected injuries have hurt tremedously here - but they have done very well, considering. The OL line coach is worth every penny.
The defensive coaching is nowhere. Byrd and Jones have no idea what to do or where to go (both all world in high school), midget corners who have to grab all the time are a dumb idea, linebackers reflect the lack of testosterone on the staff, and the DL ought to offer the opposing QB a lawn chair he’s back there so long.
Willie Martinez is not only a liability, but he hasn’t gotten any better.

Congrats Dawgs on a tough win. Naturally, most of us fans thought you should have pulled away from Aubu’n but what what else is new? Get rested during the off week and then BEAT TECH!!! Georgia has never won eight in a row against the Yellow Maggots. Make history Dawgs and be the first Georgia team to do it. You know they’ll be gunning for you this year with Coach Johnson now at the helm.
And fans, I know this season has been a disappointment overall compared to the pre-season expectations, but my goodness, one more win and the Dawgs will have six 10-win seasons in Mark Richt’s eight seasons as coach! Sure, this season the Gaytors and Bammy are getting all the pub and, loathe though I am to admit it, deservedly so. But despite the breakdowns and occasional poor play calling by the offense and defense, the sky is not falling on the Georgia program.
Overall the program is still in great shape. And if the Dawgs allow themselves to get motivated by this year’s beat down in Jax, I think we’ll be in great shape for next year. We like to say that we have as much talent as the Gaytors, and I for one want to believe that, but 49-10 says otherwise. Georgia needs to let that one stick in their craw for the next year. Go Dawgs!

Again, coach Bobo, please don’t change the flow of the game by calling those cute plays. It is so predictable. We are now 9 wins but not really coaching more like we just happened to have many weapons. Look at Alabama, FU, or even Auburn (with so little first class atheletes) ofenses, none of them change the calls too much in the so called Red zone. Just so distress to see Kirby Smart, Muchamp, etc coaches against their own Dogs.

Mike Bobo: Why the wierd play calling on our first series once we got into the red zone ? A junior high team would have known to line up with the 2 fullbacks and get the TD.Instead we try the fade once again and have to settle for a FG…WAIT!!! it is blocked !!!
Changed the whole game right then and there….

Coach Richt is a good head caoch and a goom man. However, if his loyalty toward what appears to be a mediocre defensive and other coaches that are producing a very undisciplined team then yes, the Georgia Bulldogs will never quite become what Florida is and Alabama has become. Georgia has comparable talent yet both clearly dominated Georgia and from my perspective the difference was coaching.
For coach Richt to get to the top he must bring in an “Erk Russell” type who produced defenses that other teams feared. No one fears—or even now respects—the Georgia defense.
Further, could you imagine what any other great offensive mind (like Steve Spurrior) who do to have Stafford and Moreno in their backfield together? Yet at Georgia Stafford is still saddled with bizarre play calling which leaves us all just knowing under the right Offensive Coordinator he—and Georgia—could be so much more!
Lastly, when was last time the Georgia defense stopped anyone on 3rd and long in the 4th quarter?
Whew!

**i’m so sick of our defense. All of our guys are out of position to make plays, our corners and safeties constantly go for the big hit instead of playing the ball. Reshard Jones is not i repeat is NOT Thomas Davis or even a poor man’s Greg Blue and the sooner he realizes he cant hit like them the better. Bryan Evans is horrible corner. He cant keep up with even the slowest tightend. We have no rush off the end. Jeremy Lomax is the best DE we have and he doesnt even start. No pressure on the QB with even the lb’s rushing is horrible. We simply don’t have the players and that is the coaches fault for not having the correct back up and for them not coaching them up during the week. Thank god we have an off week to try and prepare for GA Tech or they would gash our non tackling no hussle asses.

Here we go, let’s start bashing UGA for another SEC road victory. A victory that takes the program to 9-2. Let’s get all of the unrealistic people on here talking about how much better the DC and OC should be doing with the talent…despite all of the youth and injuries on the OL and DL. Football used to be about winning, now you guys want style points, blowouts, etc…truth be told you really know nothing about big-time football. Here’s a reality check…we’re upset at 9-2. Get a grip, enjoy a victory on the Plains (3rd in a row). Beat the North Avenue Nerds and we’ve got another 10 win season. I have been watching GA football for 50 yrs. this game. This team is the most undisciplined group I have ever seen. I think if I see #9 make one more late hit I will throw up. Richt ought to pull a Mike Singletary on him, and send #9 packing. Why not get Singletary to come coach at UGA?? With his attitude, it would be interesting. Ah, wishful dreaming, right? CWM’s defense made AU look “all world” today. I have tried to see the good in CWM, but I just cannot. He has tried hard, but it isn’t working out. If Richt was a good manager, he would discuss these issues with CWM, and work towards finding him a more suitable coaching position at another probably smaller school school. A fresh start would probably do everyone good. As it stands now, a win is a win. Let’s just get the season over with. Try to rest up, and get pumped to pull out all the stops against the Yellow Jackets.

Back to basic. Walsh is trying to kick too hard. Come on, Falling left after kick will cause a low pull. Falling back will go right and losing leg speed. Run with momentum and kick just enough power will go a long way because of no power leak. This the basic of kicking. Do you play golf? Drive off the tee long way is “a smooth rythmic swing of the club” not a power jurking! Quit listen to the butterup talks that you have the most powerful leg in UGA history. Remember, your performance is below your own par because of your technique. Don’t try to impress any one. Watch the film, run straight through with the kick. Sory, if I interfere with position coach. It’s not a pretty sight to see simple technical mistake

11 games behind us, and we are still seeing the same thing, week after week, after week………… We all know what it is. Every week, the dawgs still find a way to screw up a game. Holding, late hits, dropped passes, confused defense, and special teams, oh my oh my, what a mess. Does Coach Fabris spend any time with those guys!? And Martinez, he should be coaching little league. Well, we have no voice as CMR does not read the blogs, neither do the players. But, we did get great effort today by the same few players who gives a rats arse about the game. Puleeeeeeeeeeeeeeze, Damon Evans, Or CMR, do something if possible for this loose assemblage of guys to play together as a team. I actually saw Tommy T. talking to his coaches today many times. Maybe CMR could try talking to his coaches. With the Lord’s help, it just may be possible for the dawgs to put it together and play the last game with some intelligence and perfection and execution. Naw, what was I drinking……..?????????? NOT POSSIBLE.

The talent level is there. The coaching is not. How hard is that for rational people to see? Here’s a list off the top of my head that illustrates why the coaching is failing this team and will continue to do so until changes are made:
Stupid penalties - a reflection of poor coaching and discipline.
Poor tackling - a shoulder into a runner usually doesn’t work, yes coaches those things hanging off players shoulders are meant to wrap around a ball carrier.
Play calling - we dominate running and low and behold it’s time for Bobo to show off his creative play calling. That helped kill the dominance the running game was in the process of building. Also, I think there just might be a couple of other play options in the book in the red zone other than the fade route.
I could go on as I’m sure many of you could add on but the lack of success this season is clearly on the heads of poor coaching. The future doesn’t look promising without some major changes.

I have to say, the ESPuke heads at halftime (the Mark idiot May group) are the worst. I unfortunately caught the end of their drivel at halftime of the Wisconsin/Missouri game. They were actually debating if a one loss team who didn’t win a conference championship could make it into the NC game. To his credit, holtz said no way. The others were lamely discussing the possibility.

How many personal fouls and unsportsmanlikes today for the THUGDAWGS?
Looked like a fairly ordinary team today. Should drop in the polls.
I think TECH has a pretty good chance to win out and finish higher in the polls than UGA.

I am an Auburn fan and have stood behind my team through this gut wrenching season. To read some of the comments by the UGA fans is funny, I could only imagine how brutal your comments would be if y’all were 5-6 like us. I can think of alot of teams that would like to be 9-2 (AU being one of them)but you have to play the cards that are dealt to you.
I think that UGA should enjoy it while they can, because remember every team eventually goes through a season like AU is this year

Oh, and someone applauded the defense for that late stand to save the game? What a joke. The defense allowed a pathetic offense to drive the length of the field and come within one short pass completion of beating us. Not sure they could have withstood one more play.

Any SEC win, particularly on the road is a good win. The extremists who are calling for everyone’s head are not of sound mind. However, the staunch defenders who are satisfied with this season are equally full of it. This team has tremendous skill players, comparable to any team in America. The much maligned offensive line has actually done a goo job of holding things together and deserves credit. The offense seems to be able to score when they have to and that’s a positive. On the down side, red zone offense is abysmal. When you have a QB with the best arm in the country, its absurd to rely exclusively on the fade as your play of choice. Drop back, buy some time and drill the ball to a receiver that comes open. Very elementary. You have a tremendous running back. Give him the damn ball (when he hasn’t taken himself out). Dump the ball to him on a swing pass or screen and let him make something happen in space. On defense, where to start. The D-Line is pitiful, the worst group UGA has had in 20 years. They get little pressure, miss tackles and disappear in crunch time. Rennie Curran is phenomenal, the rest of the LB mediocre. Asher Allen is outstanding, the other DBS dreadful. The scheme is either badly flaws or the players are too stupid to execute. Kodi Burns is the worst passer on earth but still found holes in the UGA secondary. He hot the same corner route three straight drives in the 2nd half. Burns ran for two big gains on the last drive. What a shocker that he pulled it down and ran. I guess our genius staff and slow witted players didn’t see that coming. Special teams….GAG !!! Worst kickoff coverage in history. Mimbs takes so long to get punts off that every kick is a potential disaster. Punt returners rotate and none of them are a threat to go anywhere if they catch the ball. Samuels returns licks but is too green to come up with anything significant. Walsh is a true freshmen and he is kicking like one. All in all…they are 9-2, and that has to be celebrated. With effective strategy and improved execution they could play with any team in America. Instead they shrivel in their biggest games (1st half Bama, 2nd half Gators). The rest of the year they play to the competitions level and do just enough to win. It can be argued that it is a successful season but anyone who really watches every game knows the truth.

Chip,
This statement, “You knew it’d be close throughout and that it was,” is a cliche and shouldn’t have been true at all, under any scenario. Auburn has a terrible offense, has been playing awfully and UGA a fantastic offense loaded with talent—and overall, the team is consistently under-performing. This game shouldn’t have been a close one this year, and it’s telling that Dawg fans repeat this meaningless phrase when there’s no reason for it. Rivalry or not, the differences in talent level are staggering. Yet…the Dawgs are left praying at the end?
There’s some serious problems happening with the coaching on this team. The disappointment the year is great. It’s understandable that the Dawgs drop a couple of games in SEC, but the way in which they’ve done it paired with the utter lack of discipline is revealing. Add to that the general regression this team has taken over the course of the year and it all points to coaching.

I am very proud to have Coach Mark Richt as our head football coach. However, today I realized that he is the only one doing the coaching! Please Mark, get rid of John Eason (should have been gone years ago), Mike Bobo (a good feel good story but not a championship O play caller) and last but definitely first, Coach Martinez. People it’s not the players its the coaches training them Monday-Friday. It’s not a fluke that VanGorders defense is kicking a* while we are going backward. It’s time to start looking for some quality O and D coordinators. I refuse to let football turn into idol worship but this is hard to watch!

A win is a win, many say. But pride goes well beyond outscoring opponents. I am not proud of the behavior of this Georgia team. Coach Richt, I am an old coach and HS administrator. I can tell when a teacher has lost control of his/her classroom and, my son, you must take drastic measures immediately to regain total control of yours. Your vision is dependent upon your ability to discipline where necessary and to reward sportsmanship. Walk tall and carry a big stick! The bench may be at standing room only. But the integrity of your vision is at stake.

Another poor performance against a really bad team! Please…enough of “a win is win”! Remember this team was pre-season #1 and by the way UF has lost more players to season ending injuries than UGA so find another excuse please! The bottom line is a well coached team gets better in fundamentals as the season goes on and we have gotten worse. Here is my scorecard…
Penalties….F
Tackling…..D
Red Zone O…D
Special Teams…D
Play Calling…D (take away the LSU/UK games and it would be an F)
Safety play…F (if Reshad is the best we have we are in trouble)
On a positive note the O line has been amazing given the challenges. KM & AJ are amazing
I am sure Stafford will be top 10 pick in April but for the life of me I don’t see why…His completion % is average to below average, his mechanics are not great, and most of all he throws the worst deep ball of any top ranked QB I have ever seen. I’ll bet his completion % of balls over 30 yards is 30 points or more lower than Tebow/Bradford/McCoy etc… I really don’t anticipate a drop off when he leaves early so I wish him well…he has been a good QB but certainly not a great one by any measure!
I love the Dawgs win or lose but it is time to be honest about the performance this year of this team and the coaching staff!
Go Dawgs and to HELL WITH TECH!!!!

JWATL-agree with you completely. The problem with this UGA team isn’t a lack of talent or playmakers. It’s a complete lack of discipline OFF the field that translates onto the field in the form of sloppy play and penalties. During all the “UGA is #1” preseason hype, it was patently obvious to me that this team was clearly NOT the best-unless you base a ranking on how many of a team’s players are in jail.
CMR uses a soft, loving, friendly approach that comes across great to guys in their families’ living rooms, but that kind of attitude can’t get it done on Gameday. Richt resorted to gimmicks last year to get his guys inspired to play hard. We see this year that other teams have his number (see Blackout vs. Alabama) Gimmicks don’t win football games, and neither do sloppy, undisciplined players, no matter how talented they may be.
Richt needs to take this off-season to change his tact and instill some discipline and responsibility in his team, or the off-season problems and the excessive penalties and sloppy play will continue as long as he’s head coach.

Yes, Dawg fans, 10-2 is an outstanding season and today’s win on the road is nothing to take lightly. Yes, UGA has a roster full of outstanding players- most are 4 or 5 star recruits and consistently ranked among the top 3-5 recruiting classes in the country. And yes, Dawg fans, you probably will continue being in the hunt to play in the SEC championship game year after year and most probably will beat Georgia Tech most years.
All that said, you Dawg fans got carried away with yourselves at the end of last year, during the off-season and early this year. Given your expectations the season could be nothing if not a bitter disappointment. That’s what makes all this so entertaining watching, listening, reading as Dawg nation tries to come to grips with the huge gap in your expectations and the actual results. It might be better to be a little more realistic in the future and enjoy the type of season you are having. But deep down we all know that will never happen because a Dawg is a Dawg is a Dawg. Anyway thats my opinion and I thank you for the annual free entertainment.

It is embarassing to think that I am a fan of the same team that 3/4 of you idiots pull for. We have not played up to my hopes or expectations all year. But really, Fire all the coaches? Burn down the university? Kill all the women and children? We are 9-2 with a team that is 80% freshmen and sophomores. We have sustained 14 season ending injuries this year. We have played the toughest schedule in recent memory and most of those games on the road. And we have a chance to win 11 games again this year. Take away the pre-season #1 B.S. and any long time Georgia fan would be at least satisfied with the result. CMR has won more SEC games since he came than any other school. Excuse me for believing in his judgement and abilities more than you so called fans on this blog. We’re only pointing out what worked on our company flag football team. We’re only talking about what worked on our sons Pee-Wee league team last year. We have a right to b@#$h and show our collective ignorance! We only want our dogs to get better! What if your bosses were ready to fire you as quickly as you are ready to fire every person associated with the program. I told ya’ll. I told ya’ll.
Almost everything I said would happen..happened. Georgia wins an ugly game against a team that manages to execute worse than the Dawgs do. Large amounts of penalties, special teams crucial mistakes, questionable coaching, pourous defense, some bad luck mixed with good luck.
I expected Georgia to win in unsatisfying fashion AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED!
If you want to sum up this season, Georgia’s second to last possession was the 2008 season in a nutshell: With under two minutes remaining, Auburn can’t stop Moreno and the dogs from getting a first down and running out the clock. Moreno wasn’t going to be stopped from getting the needed yardage and the OL was really getting a push. Another successful handoff to Moreno was coming….but Stafford dropped the ball. Are you kidding me! Not to worry, there’s always third down. Then on a beautifully executed screen play, Moreno trips and falls. The game continues and we watched to the last second as Georgia beats an Auburn team that has never been weaker. THAT LADIES AND GENTLEMAN IS WHAT THIS SEASON HAS BEEN ALL ABOUT!
I blame a creepy amount of bad luck, bad coaching, and lack of player leadership for this disappointing season.
It is very strange that we are angry about a 9-2 season. But it is how those 2 games were lost in such embarrassment. Even many of the wins have come with some consternation and frustration. Dropped passes and penalties almost caused a loss against SC and a coach that deserves some harsh pay back. 14-7…we could have done better.
Then those wins where the competition was fierce even though against awful and overrated teams teams such as Auburn, Tennessee, and Vandy. We didn’t even dominate ASU and they are the biggest disappointment in a weak Pac-10 conference.
So, yes 9-2 with a chance to go 11-2 is very disappointing. B/c its how we got to that record…not the record.
Even if Georgia gets it together for Tech and the Bowl game, it will still be too little, too late. We will all be left wondering “where was that kind of play when it really mattered”? But I don’t think that will happen as I believe this is Tech’s year to end the streak, the players will then begin to give up, and we’ll lose to someone like OK State in the bowl game.
I’m very disappointed in the Georgia Bulldog Football Team.
And one day, in a few years, we’ll see players like Stafford, Moreno, and Green in the NFL. They will be successful professional players. And people will wonder “How in the hell did Georgia not win Championships with Stafford, Moreno, and Green on the field at the same time?” My question to you is, what will be our answer?

Thank you jdawg for trying to bring to sense into this idiotic blog. The AJC is not pro UGA, which is really sad, considering UGA is the state university. I don’t know who they favor, but I don’t think it is either GA Tech or UGA. These bloggers are totally out-of-hand, but the AJC condones it.
I am watching the FL - USC game and find it so weird that they are running up the score more than they did against UGA. Also, the commentators said TEBOW was the one who had Meyer call the timeouts against GA. He thought that would get GA back for last year’s celebration. Does he not realize that Richt did not call for that extensive of a celebration. (I did love it, though, and especially now that I know that!) It was the only UGA - FL game I have attended, and that was a perfect one! Did anyone know TEBOW was now calling the plays? With that out of the way…..the execution today was not very good. Too many people drank the UGA Kool-Aid before the season and are still trying to live off of the #1 pre-season ranking. The fact is that UGA has been incredibly lucky the last two games. I know, people are going to say the “win is a win”, but you should respect the fact that had Kentucky and/or Auburn had a bit of luck on the last play of each of those games, UGA could be looking at 4 losses.
What is shocking is the fact that UGA’s defense has allowed an average of 34.5 ppg for the last 4 games. The two times they played someone “better” than them, they were completely blown out. What they heck is Martinez doing???

I am so freak’n tired of the whole “Any win in the SEC is a good win” CRAP! Auburn is not a good tem this year and UGA has struggled against several teams that most decent teams have dominated.
The SEC is NOT any where near as solid THIS YEAR as most SEC fans would like to believe.
Most SEC fans think the SEC is so solid “top to bottom” and many think the ACC is weak. Well let’s consider a few facts regarding the 2008 season so far:
SEC vs. ACC head to head: 3-3
Teams r’eceiving votes’ for the top 25 polls: ACC 8 teams SEC 5 teams BIG12 6 teams PAC10 5 teams
Sagarin Top 30 teams: ACC 6 teams SEC 4 teams BIG12 6 teams PAC10 4 teams
Sagarin Conference Rankings: BIG12 #1 ACC #2 SEC #3 PAC10 #6
(I know this is hard to take, but the Sagarin ranking excludes any bias……..it is simply based on performance and strenght of schedule. Oh yeah, it also ranks the ENTIRE conference top to bottom; not just the top 3-4 teams!!)
Lowest Ranked Teams: ACC: NC State at #78 SEC: Tenn at #87 & Miss St at #101 BIG12: Texas AM at #80 & Iowa St at #110 PAC10: UCLA #93, Wash #126 & Wash St #149
The SEC has 4 solid teams (Florida, Alabama, UGA & LSU), but the remainder of the conference is simply not very good. The records for the other 8 teams are misleading due to the fact that they have played essentially nobody out of conference!
Miami lost bad to Florida (final score), but they played VERY close until half way through the 4th quarter. Florida better be ready for Florida State and UGA better be ready for GT or these mighty SEC teams might just get beat by lowly ACC teams which you guys say are “weak”. We will see……….you guys might wish the media had not been so unfair to the ACC the past few weeks if Florida and UGA actually lose these two games. If FSU “accidentally” beats Florida and Florida beats Alabama in the SEC Championship game; the SEC will not have a team in the NC game. Think it through.
Go GT!

I get sick of hearing “Dawg” fans complain about teams “Running Up The Score”.
The last time I checked, a game is 60 minutes long and it is up to each defense to keep the other team from scoring.
If UGA could run up the score, they would.

Abslouetly one of the WORST Bulldogs performance I have seen this Year. A win is a win, but forget being the pre-season Number Ones this team has MAJOR MAJOR problems. Willi Martinez on the Defense side has to have a major rethink of scehmes and calls. Mark Richt really needs to more involved than he ever has because our offensive calls and special teams are in SHAMBLES right now !! Not only the players but the coaching staff really needs to CHANGE thier Philosphy. Looking pretty on the sidelines isnt CUTTING IT !!!! Look at the way the Florida defense today and how they played. Ga had that fire at the end of last yr. Now its a small candle you cant even see !!!!

“We saw a lot of what we’ve seen from the Bulldogs this season — special teams breakdowns, porous defense, untimely penalties”…same thing every game.
Was this team overranked?…probably Is it better than it appears?…probably Is this one of Richt’s “dumber” teams?…probably Does the team lack focus?…probably Will they beat Jackets?…probably Will changes in coaching staff occur after season?…probably NOT Will Stafford and Moreno return?…probably NOT Summation: a good season record wise, but a dismal failure due to lack of not only a national championship but not even the SEC East champion despite TOP 10 talent. Hopefully Stafford and Moreno will return to take another shot at it, but even if they do, can we expect coaching to fix the mistakes from this year?…probably NOT (unless changes in D and Special teams takes place). Offense will be O.K. with Bobo…

Your best team just lost again. The acc will not receive a BCS bowl invitation because they will not have a team ranked in the top 16. Now take your azz back over to the nerd blog….you are green with envy. The acc is a joke and everyone knows it. Well the officials cost Auburn another Georgia game. Georgia is the DIRTIEST team in the SEC. Auburn should have gotten another pass interference penalty on the next to the last play of the game. The DB pushed the receiver outside…worse actually than what Asher was called for. That would have given us the ball at the 1. Richt does a really good job of teaching his players to cheat.

From CMR:
“The thing I like the most about Knowshon the last two weeks in particular is just how he’s practiced,” Richt said. “Not that he doesn’t always practice well but he’s just had a different attitude starting two Tuesdays ago and it hasn’t changed since. I don’t know if people got under his skin about him taking himself out of the game but, if so, thank you.”
Why in the world should fans be responsible for shaming Moreno out of taking himself out of the game? Shouldn’t the coaches have done that? That quote makes it sound like he (Richt) had no say in whether or not Moreno remained in the game. Ridiculous.
Also, I heard with my own ears (at the beginning of the Mark Richt t.v. show) CMR say after the LSU game, “I don’t care how many penalties there were today, no up-downs on Monday.” So, have they really been sticking to the “punishment” for excessive penalties.
I think we are dealing coaches who are way too lenient. I am glad we won, but blah, to the way they did it.
It is a bad sign when I am more excited about the possibility of Oregon State keeping USC out of the Rose Bowl than I am Georgia beating Auburn. Yup, bad sign.

Player of the game: Rennie Curran. He was everywhere today. We performed well overall on offense with improved line play and our defense put pressure on talented QB Burns and held them to 13. I was bad-mouthing AJ right before his critical grab of a pass thrown behind him: I apologize, AJ, you da man! Critics of Knowshon Moreno should follow my example and give him his props. Obviously, special teams were a serious problem again today. And we still have not been able to put together a complete game. It would be nice to get it all together when we line up against GT. They will show up to play. If Stafford returns next year, we should have the season people were expecting this year. We could do this without Knowshon but it would be great to have both 7 and 24 back. GO DAWGS!

I’ll say this AGAIN…..if I were CMR, I would tell Bobo to NEVER send in a play calling for Stafford to throw long. The odds of him completing a long pass should prohibit him from even trying. I would rip all of the long pass plays from the play book and not even allow them to be attempted. Did you count how many missed long passes that he threw today??? Just simply wasted plays!! How can CMR, Bobo, and the other coaches not see this?? Stafford can hit dead on within 20-25 yards, but nothing 30 or beyond unless once in a blue moon it’s just blind luck.
And the coaching today….well we just have a big mess on our hands and no one seems to know what to do with it or is willing to make the effort.
Guess I’ll watch Ala and Fla play for the SEC championship wishing the whole time that we had a team and coaches like one of them!!

It has become crystal clear that his season, which started with so much hope and anticipation, has degenerated into near chaos. Our defense is nearly non- existant. Our defense is clueless, has no discipline, continues to commit untold unnecessary penalties and has coaches that are continually out coached, cannot make tackles and cannot anticipate what is comming. Today our defense made the worst offense in the SEC look like the best. We have a quarterback who couldn’t throw an over the shoulder pass if his life depended on it. We had offensive play calling that looked confused and not understanding the tendancies of the Auburn defense. The only bright spot on this team is our over achieving patchwork offensive line and our stellar tailback. This team is 8-2 only because the SEC is down this year. If this had been a normal Auburn team, we would not have been in the game. Our team is degenerating into chaos. CMR is to nice a guy and insists on treating these teenagers as buddies and equals. They are not and the lack of discipline is now coming home to roost. There are three coaches in the SEC who have been on the job less time than CMR, but all of whom have a national championship. I believe we have another situation as we did w/Jim Donnan. We are an above average team, maybe excellent, but will never play for a national championship. CMR better get a grip and right this ship quickly before he looses control. Just because we continue to win games (by the skin of our teeth) doesn’t mean there isn’t a problem or that we are good. The first thing we better do is make sure our quarterback does not come back next year. Joe Cox is the better quarterback and can make the over the shoulder pass w/his eyes closed. The second thing that must happen is Martinez and his entire staff have to go. He will never produce a defnese the calibre needed to win a national championship. Chaos and cluelessness abound. Time to do something CMR.

At least we won. That’s about all I can say about today’s game. Our defense made the worst offense in the SEC look pretty good. The few time Knowshon took himself out,the offense stalled.Penalties are still a problem.R.Jones should be benched for the next game for his stupid hit out of bounds.Maybe that would get their attention if they knew they would have to sit out the next game.
The main reason our defense makes bad offenses look good is because we have a lack of talent. We have no play makers on the defense.I watched the gators today & I wish we could play defense like them but I know that won’t happen with our current group of players. We are soft on the line, undersized at linebacker & slow in the secondary.I hope Stafford & Knowshon come back next year because if they don’t next year could be rough unless a lot of changes are made on defense.

It’s great to be 9-2. However, this game points out once again the lack of execution and discipline. My 7 yr old son’s Ice Hockey Team is better organized.
I expect Ohio State to break their decade long postseason losing streak vs SEC Teams with a win against The Dawgs.
Maybe that’s what it will take to get it through Richt’s head that coaching changes are needed.

STOP with the WIN IS A WIN thing for the love of God!
Maybe once a year, but not every week!
Heck Florida puts away inferior teams most all the time and never lets it be decided on one play.
The media and the nation will never respect a team that just keeps getting by teams on the last plays of the game.
Heck the last 7 games against TECH UGA only blew them out once and had the WIN IS A WIN the other 6 times.
You either want to be E-L-I-T-E like Florida and have that mentality of putting away teams or do not think a 9-2 record is impressive when two plays could have you 7-4.
UGA is getting those last plays now, but they all come around and even out so some Losses are near.
WAY TOOOOOOOOOO MUCH TALENT for not being ELITE.
Way to much talent for not having the ELITE mentality.
Maybe Stafford & Moreno will stay and UGA will transfrom their thinking next year and crush teams, but only time will tell.

I just love people who say “how would you like it if they showed up at your job”.
Truth is, its obvious they don’t know how to do their own job, goallinestalker, anymore than apparently you do. What’s more, UGA games are played on Saturday - you moron - NOT Friday nights. Geez, where did they GROW you?
“a win is a win” is jaw-jack that atheletes like to spout off when they know they did a sorry job but still won. Just like when players say “its game”- well, sure it is but its paying you too (or paying for your college) so do your stinking job.
There is NO requirement that a fan go to the school they pool for. I bet that you didn’t go to Georgia - yet you admonish others for stating their views. What if everyone said nothing about the state of our football team? Ray Goff would still be coaching and losing to Tech.
Jim Donnan thought of himself as the only one who mattered when it came to the program (and lost to Tech).
Now, Richt refuses to admit there’s a problem, refuses to address these issues because he’s too nice or they’re his BFF. He’s calling out the players, saying the plan is sound they just aren’t executing. True or not the buck stops with him. Are we to believe that the players that he and his staff recruited are as good as stated; that they’re worse than last year? Or the year before that?
So goallinestalker, and every moron like you, like it or not these just aren’t our DAWGS! And a REAL fan has every right to say so even if he or she didn’t attend that school.

Being 9-2 is all right. But I admit I’m disappointed, given the talent available. Losing the two games was not nearly as galling as how they lost. 11-2 with a top 10 finish and a bowl victory over a Big 10 team (again). I expected more, though.

Take away this tool’s press badge. He CHEERS for a Florida loss in an earlier story and now tried to put a happy face on a crappy Dog effort by making the excuse that because it’s the oldest rivalry in the South. Give us a break, homer. We want impartial coverage. What in the name of Carter Strickland does the fact that the games have been close historically have to do with this year’s players? Nothing. Marcus Howard did not leave early. He was a SR last year. The loss of Owens was big, but our secondary cannot cover or tackle and Rennie is our only LB that is ever in position to make a play.
Besides a close win, the only other interesting thing that happened was Florida hung more than 49 on Carolina. I think it was Eric Norwood who said that Carolina wasn’t going to give up 49 to Florida. He was right.
We’re lucky to be 9-2.

Anyone got any ideas? houston nutt seems to do pretty well with nothing, so does bobby johnson, but they don’t feel right…woudln’t be that confident with them. i hate to say it, but i think the best coach outside of gainesville might be paul johnson…tech may not beat us this year, but i think our recent dominance is going to end soon.

For all of those fans who are wanting Coach Martinez, Coach Fabris, and Coach Bobo fired, I have a suggestion. Go to Coach Richt in Athens and make your superior intellect and abilities available to him so that you can show us how it’s supposed to be done. Then maybe Georgia will win every game 56-0 and shut up all of those Dawg haters out here on the internet. I personally can’t wait until next year when some of you are calling the shots. What a great season we’re going to have. Especially the coach who will be responsible for showing Matthew Stafford how to throw the deep ball, I guess we’ll have a lot of one play drives. Oh, wait that will put too much pressure on the defense. But, i forget we’ll have a real Defensive Coordinator that will give us three and out every series. I can’t wait. Damon Evans get ready to hand out some big pay checks.

This is the same offense that scored 38 last week against Georgia. I also would like to point out that LSU(at this very moment) has scored 3 points and 2 first downs against Troy. CMR- 81-21 in eight years CMR- 30-4 in ROAD GAMES 1st Time UGA has beaten Auburn 3 times in a row since 1982.
Yes i wanted more than 11-2, but GOOD LORD!!! This is the kind of team and record Donnan and Goff never had, and we as fans only dreamed of.
National Championships dont grow on trees, and CMR WILL GET ONE SOON!!!

I have not commented until this point. I did not read all the BS prior to this post. We are fortunate to come out with a win today. Honestly, I’m not sure what to say. I’m not sure if the team isn’t better than they showed today or if Auburn had their last stand. Either way, I’m disappointed with the performance. I am proud we have the opportunity to go 10 maybe 11 and 2 but am disappointed in how we got here. I don’t know if it is the motivation or the dedication. I know one thing, it is definitely the discipline. No way would I suggest getting rid of CMR but this is definitley not my traditional dawgs. Honestly, I don’t know the answer but I do know there were wasted opportunities, stupid penalties and no true leadership shown today. I am with the dawgs and have been for years. This will not change. In the future, I just hope the dawgs show the dedication on the field this fan shows everyday.

Folks, there is no question that our special teams need a complete make over.this special team is the worse that Georgia have in Mark Richt era, its really pathetic. again I want to say F U Florida, but their special team is fantastic, I think we need to take note of what they do in special teams. and Florida’s Defense is really good, way better than ours although I do still believe we have slightly better athletes on D. I think we need to bring energy and new ideas into our system like new special team coach and a new assistant on D. I don’t thing Willie Martinez is creative enough in tweaking and adjusting the D when necessary. I’m really worry about Georgia Tech match up, it seems Willie Martinez struggles in preparing for a running QB.

The team has had a ton of injuries (I know it it an excuse, and everyone has them), but unless you have coached you probably do not realize how long it takes to put an offensive line together where they work as a unit. When your line is questionable the QB has a hard time trusting them. I believe with all that has happened this has been a very good year.

To address the issue of being the most penalised team in football:
I condone it. I encourage it. The risk/ reward ratio pays off here just like it did at FSU. The aggressive mentality is a big plus. That is why I don’t make a big issue of off-field incedents as well.

Con - don’t get me wrong, most teams would be thrilled with only 2 losses this year.
It is just the pre-season hype that I have seen (in my own family - which is why I’m a Gator). The articles indicating the trophy case had been re-arranged to make room for the NC Trophy.
It is very hard to keep these kids (and yes even at 18-22, they are kids) from buying into the hype. I will say that UF was the better team vs Miss but the kids bought into the hype and assumed it was a gimme game. Not the case and it never is in college football.

All of you excuse makers keep blaming the offensive line,STOP! If anything the O-LINE has overachieved. WE rush for 150 yards or more per game we throw for 300. It aint the O-line. At one point in the game we had 300 yards of offensne and only 10 points.
WE run up and down the field we just don’t score in relationship to our ablilty to move the 1st down markers. Mistakes, penalties, missed fieldgoals, poor play calling, poor execution at critical moments. 3rd and 9 and we have Stafford trying to run for a 1st down? WWhats wrong with using 3 weapons that will be playing in the NFL one day?
This team is painful to watch sometimes. Not because they aren’t good but because they play stupid.

If the players wanted it as bad as we the fans do it could be a different story, but they don’t seem to give a damn or they would give their teamates that get penalties a good asswhipping at practice. we will only wonder what could have been this year….Sad

Today UGA was flagged for 95 yards worth of penalties. We are competing with TCU for the honor of being the most penalized of divsion A teams. CMR states we will adress it as we always have. Status quo? This does not sound promising.

If the Bulldogs play Tech like they have played the last three weeks, Tech will eat their lunch. Everyone is not included here, but the for most part, the defense stinks, especially the secondary. Martinez should look at the films, too many people arm tackling and waiting for someone else to make the tackle.I’ve never seen them so unaggressive.Maybe he should think about putting somebody in from the sideline who was willing to hit somebody.Go Dogs Seek Um.

Make sure you have an excuse ready for after GT wins
Wear black because it worked like a charm last time
Score meaningless points at the end of the game to make it look closer and say you just got a bad start and should have won
Set a goal for only 5 players arrested the week of the game

At the start of the season, I was hoping to have a team to be proud of even though I knew we never should be ranked #1. We’ve never been that good of a team. I’m not sure we have all the talent that people on these blogs say we have either.
The loyal Dawg supporters say that we should be proud of having a 9-2 season even though we lost the two biggest games we have played. The whole world cried about how TOUGH a schedule we had to play this year. I don’t buy that one either. Most everybody we’ve played, except for the two games we lost, has been a small school or a weak school this year.
Think about what our results could be, or should be, if we played our usual opponents who are having a down year this season. Normally, Tennessee, LSU, and Auburn have competitive teams in the SEC. We lucked out this year by all three having pretty poor years. If they all three had their teams of years past, we probably would have lost to all three this season. That would give us a 6-5 record. And I haven’t figured out Spurrier and USC yet. I thought by now he would have USC at the level of Alabama and Florida. If that were true, we could easily be 5-6. And if Kentucky had played just a few points better, we could easily be 4-7. And if Ga. Tech beats us this year, we could easily be looking at a 4-8 season. This is not too far-fetched at all. And this would be for a team that was ranked #1 for a brief period. If we ended up with a 4-8 season, and no bowl game, THEN would CMR be willing to admit that this team and its coaches have a problem that needs to be addressed?? Would the Dawg nation and the AD THEN sit somebody down and say that it had better be addressed?? Well…..we essentially have that same 4-8 team. It COULD have happened easier than we like to think.

Georgia Tech doesn’t deserve to play in a bowl game because Georgia Tech had a sorry easy cupcake schedule in the America’s Cupcake Conference and beat no ranked team all season long.
As a matter of fact, Georgia Tech has not even played a ranked team in college football all season long.
Run-of-the-mill Georgia Tech plays Thursday night against unranked run-of-the-mill Miami of Florida.
Mediocrity is all Georgia Tech has to show for the entire 2008 season.
Choke is all any team in the ACC has done all season long, especially Georgia Tech.
Every discussion of the BCS Bowl Games this season has centered around the fact that Southern California has no hope of making it the National Championship Game over there in the land of fruit and nuts otherwise known as the PAC-1.
At least they have 1 team.
ACC certainly does not.
Meanwhile The SEC, with 3 teams ranked in the Top 10, clearly will see the SEC Championship Game Winner play in the BCS Mythical National Championship Game. The SEC has Won the Last 2 and 3 of the Last 5 National Championship Title BCS Bowl Games.
With TV ratings on decline throughout the ACC and the BCS overall, The SEC has set the Record for TV Ratings yet again this season. It is the 23rd consecutive season that The SEC has led the nation in Attendance. 3 million more than the PAC-1, 2 million more than the Big XII and ACC, and over 6 million total attendance to The SEC games once again this season.
Florida State will surely drop out of the Top 25 today, as will North Carolina, and if the ACC – as a block – votes for Maryland to get in the Top 25, Georgia Tech did not play Maryland.
As if the In-Conference foes of Georgia Tech don’t suck enough…
By ............................................BuLLdawg

Tech’s out of conference opponents are Jacksonville State, Duke, Gardner-Webb, Mississippi State, and now…
Wait for it, Top 10 BCS Ranked UGA coming up after the Miami of Florida game Thursday night.
And, of course, to make matters worse, Georgia Tech has this “game” this week while UGA sits there practicing all week this week for the game against Georgia Tech, when the game isn’t until next week.
And, if all that isn’t bad enough, Georgia Tech travels to Athens this year.
10-26-1 Georgia Tech is at Sanford Stadium.
1991 to 1997 UGA Beat Tech 7 consecutive games.
2001-2007 UGA has Beat Tech 7 Consecutive games, and counting.
36-59-5 Georgia Tech all-time against The University of Georgia, UGA.
Gag, Georgia Tech and the America’s Cupcake Conference, ACC, gag.
Grant Field, named Grant Field in downtown Atlanta named for Rising from the Ashes when Grant was the Commander in Chief of the Union Army has been like a Tupperware Party yet again all season long.
The Buffoonery of Georgia Tech has included Losses mind you to unranked Virginia, unranked North Carolina and unranked Virginia Tech. All 3 of those teams Lost this week, for example.
Georgia Tech avoided a similar fate itself this week.
By not playing.
Thank God.
But, it is only a brief reprise, as with this snoring season for Georgia Tech starting out slowly and then fizzling out all together, takes on Top 10 BCS UGA.
And, if you thought the Georgia Tech football season has been boring so far, now that Tech finally plays 1 ranked opponent all season long – UGA - It is going to be ugly.

Well I’d say that UGA is playing like crap, but honestly I just think that this is how this team is this year. It’s unfortunate but it’s true. And to be fair the 2 losses we have are against Alabama who is 1# in the nation and Florida who is playing lights out football this year. The fact that UGA still has the potential to win 10 games is mind boggling when you consider they’re playing like a 6-6 team. It’s dissapointing, but let’s move on. And just remember Florida fans, what goes up must come down eventually even if it is next year. And last time I checked UGA still leads the all time series by a good 9 games.

There is no solace in the fact dan, that UGA leads by 9 games in a series that next year being 20 years, we have won 3 games. We were ahead by 25 games. Florida is the Number 1 National Champion Football Team this season, and Alabama currently is, until they play Florida. Those are our only 2 losses. I never said we would do better than a 2-Loss Season all year 2008 including every preseason post I wrote here and everywhere else.

About dicipline at Ga. and lot of other schools,The dicipline isn’t in the homes or on the high football fields, so really we shouldn’t expect players to act with dicipline at the college level.College coaches shouldn’t have to worry about teaching dicipline. They should worry more about recruiting young men who already have some. The ranks would be thinner.

I guess the UGA fans are pretty desperate. They have now resorted to their usual insulting of other schools and whining about how tough the SEC is and how “it’s always a war between UGA and Auburn”.
Good grief! UGA is a pretty good football team. Definitely in the top twenty five or so. But, they are not NC caliber or even challengers for the top level of the conference. Mark Richt does not walk on water even though he IS “saint like”. Haha! The fact is that if three players were removed from the roster, UGA wouldn’t even be average.

I graduated from both UGA and GA TECH and will pull for Tech over GA. However, the Tech idiots on this blog that are writing smack about the dogs need to stop acting like morons. GA has won the last seven meetings between the schools and have more than earned the State bragging rights regarding D1 football.
Likewise, all the GA fans who like to get on hear and poke fun at TECH students for their nerd status and other things need to go remind themselves of the nerd contingent on UGA’s campus (i.e. Ag Hill area). Not every coed at UGA is the reigning beauty queen from her hometown either. There is a fair share of obese, downright ugly women at UGA. There are also a fair share of loudmouth idiots who can’t back up any smack talk without their herd of frat friends standing behind them.
Each school should show a respect for the other and enjoy the annual game with class. If UGA wins they should continue the bragging rights with humbled respect. If Tech wins they should be proud but respectful of what GA has accomplished during CMR’s tenure.
Everyone, enjoy the game!

I like CMR, but c’mon Mark!! Why do we run Matt in the option again and again? We have top WR and we dont use em enough. Why dont we see Figgins more? Why do we get stone hands Chandler instead? Why do we shut it down in the red zone? Why cant Willie call a defense? We have the players. Tons of potential and talent and we coach them down. Play not to lose and hope the other team makes a mistake? Awful! Yes, 9 wins, but barely! And we were run off the field twice. Poor and pathetic.

Look people, CMR hasn’t forgotten how to coach. In less than 8 seasons he’s won 80 games. Granted this season hasn’t been what we all hoped it would be, all that pre-season talk really got us. Sometimes we look great and somtimes we don’t but the fact is we are 9-2 and ranked in the top 10 in the country. We are good team and even goo teams struggles sometime. We need to trust CMR to continue to do his his best and also to make whatever changes may need to be made to make the program stronger. We need to all quit being so fickle and just support the program. Good job Dawgs, keep up the good work!!

It boils down to this for me: If the Yellow Maggots beat the dogs this year, it’s bye-bye! Of to either the Australian Outback or central Tasmania where I will never have to see or hear that noise again.
But on a lighter note: I had a dream that MR actually evaluated his coaching staff and decided that they did fail this year, after all. BUT, aside form obviously firing the staff and starting over, he asks the recruiting staff to keep relying heavily on inner-city thugs from Atlanta. Life the blogger said, there’s more than enough talent in south GA to choose from. That talent knows HOW TO PLAY THE GAME! Their parents (yeah, they have both) learn that it’s not OK to steal, rob, knock up the ladies, falisfy c\driver’s licenses, underage drink and a whole litany of sins committed by University of GA football players.

I went to the game yesterday…stupid penalties, poor coaching (Bobo went right by us and i didn’t say anything!! ugh!!). The worst thing is the penalties, when the players get back to the sidelines, nothing is done with them and nobody is in their face..some guy in the stands said it best, this is two bad teams playing today!! something has to be done, we are going to be exposed big time, whether it be Georgia Tech or Big 10-Big 12 opponent. I am hoping we don’t play a big 12 team, we let a terrible offense look like the gators sometimes. This team is totally underacheiving and has a LONG way to go!

Or, the Reuben Houston Georgia Tech player who played against us on Defense after he had admitted to trying to set up a Drug Deal for 93 lbs. of Drugs on Tech’s Campus.
Or, Tech’s coaching staff hand-picked by their 1st year coach, WHO HAS NEVER PLAYED A TOP TEAM EVER, NOT ONCE IN HIS LIFETIME PAUL JOHNSON who hired as his Assistant Director of Player Development, little Joey Hamilton, who promptly got drunk, hit another, left the scene of his hit and run, and was found a few moments later by the police who found drugs on his possession as well. To get the dawgs “fired up” against Ga Tech in 2 weeks, Richt should order the entire team, including coaches, to go to midfield after the first score and do a crazy, elaborate taunting dance toward the Ga Tech sideline. Come on Richt, show some fire! Maybe they can do a river dance type routine.

Everyone on here complaining about the Dawgs being overrated, were the same people during the preseason that were saying that they were going to go undefeated. If you look at the Dawgs schedule, you would have seen that it was going to be a 1-2 loss season. Quit being sour because the bulldogs didn’t live up to your expectations. I don’t like watching the Dawgs shoot themselves in the foot either, but it is what it is. This is how it has been all season, and this is how it is going to be on the 29th. They are winning, but it isn’t pretty. It doesn’t matter if you win by 1 or by 50. Just like it doesn’t matter if you lose by 1 or by 50. Let me ask you this, if we were in Auburn’s shoes at 5-6 and we lost to an 8-2 team 17-13 would you just be soooo happy because it was close??? I don’t think so. Some of you people would be saying they should close the doors at the University of Georgia. Be happy they won, and get used to the fact that the Dawg don’t play to appease you guys. They play to win football games which they have done except against the teams that were better. So goes life….

Everybody calm down. Just a little historical perspective needed here. Flash back to 1982. One of the best Georgia teams ever. Herschel Walker. Undefeated team that would play for the National Championship vs. Penn State (and should have won). Playing a mediocre Auburn team….and we were holding on for a win at the end, breaking up a pass in the end zone that would have won it for Auburn, just like this year. Final score 19-14. Even great teams, which UGA is not, struggle at times, especially in the SEC.

I am glad we are happy with a WIN. That is always important. After that, we are pathetic, in offensive play calling, in defensive intensity and the WORST is our special teams. We just beat a terrible team. I know our coaches can say what they say in the media but if they aren’t taking measures, this program will NEVER win another SEC Title under Mark Richt. His loyalty and stubborness will be the downfall.

Man…..cry me a river of tears. OK, we all expected more. Get over it.
Here is what will happen. We will find a way to beat Tech in a very close game. We will go to the Capital One Bowl and fall behind Ohio State or Michigan State (Big 10 Runner Up) early, then rally for a win in the second half.
We will be in the top 5 in the final rankings as several BCS participants will be the likes of ACC winner and a Big East team that is unranked.
We will have high expectations next year as the team will again be a pre-season top 10.
Now, I remember a lot of 6-5, 7-4 years under Dooley. So all of you nostalgists out there longing for the good ole’ days get real.
We are a legitimate contender EVERY YEAR. Regardless of the partisan drivel posted on these blogs, this program is pretty strong…..could be better…..but pretty strong.

Bozo called a run at least 3 times on 3rd and long—none got a 1st down. Is that what Stafford, Mo, and AJ came to UGA for? He also likes to call a run on 2nd and 10 after one of his long bombs on 1st down sailed over the receiver’s head and usually out of bounds. He is very fond of calling the long bomb and the fade-none of which Stafford has shown to be exceptional at so far.

So….looking back thus far, who have we beaten that most would consider “top tier” this year?
South Carolina: NO Arizona State: NO Tennessee : NO LSU: NO Auburn: NO Others not even worth mentioning…
We were blown out by the only two good teams we played. BLOWN OUT!
Looking back to the pre-season, what were we reading about? (besides all the hype) It was the off field arrests, remember? Now, let’s see how that has carried over in to the season….PENALTIES LIKE NO OTHER GA TEAM I CAN REMEMBER!
Call it what you like, be we are in fact, undiciplined and under-achieving. Imagine where we would be without Stafford and Moreno. 4-7, maybe? Who knows.
I’m still waiting for the “complete game” I keep hearing about. In the meantime, I watch as we amass the 15 yd penalities, arm tackle like a bunch of sissies, have punts AND field goals blocked, kick the ball out of bounds, and call the ever-popular, ever-predicatble fade pattern when teams have not proven themselves to be able to stop the run. (How about a spread offense with a hand-off to the RB with the best lateral movement in college football?)
Overall, the offense has put up respectable numbers, but again I would expect MORE given a 1st round QB, 1st round RB and a 1st round WR…Name one other team that can boast of the same….
The defense…dont’ even get me started. I’ll just say that Rennie is good. The end.
But then again, there is always next year, right?

The fact is, we are undiciplined and under-achieving. I’m still waiting for the “complete game”, but in the meantime, I’ll just have to put up with the 15 yd penalties, blocked punts AND field goals, kick-offs that go out of bounds, arm-tackles, and the ever-popular and soooo un-predictable fade pattern.

for all you people with SHORT MEMORIES
The Dawg team that is on the field NOW, IS NOT the team that was ranked #1… there have been TOO MANY INJURIES
The loss of OWENS and STURDIVANT was HUGE
It is a different team with just those guys
but then you mix in either many games missed or the season from guys like ELLERBE, SOUTHERLAND, VANCE, ANDERSON, DOBBS, DURHAM, CHANDLER, WESTON, BATTLE, and many others and you have a completely different team and season
I am looking at the other side of it…the DAWGS have a chance to go 11-2 and finish top 5 with a team full of freshman and sophomores
O-line = 3 fresh 2 soph
D-line = 2 jr, 4 fresh, 4 soph (counting ends)
LB- 1 sr, 2 soph, 3 fresh
DB- 1 sr, 2 jr, the rest either soph or fresh
WR- 1 sr, 3 solid fresh, the rest are either soph or juniors
TE- got Figgins (soph) White fresh
RB- 1 soph and all therest are eith r-shirt fresh or true
FB- set with jrs down beside Southerland
K- fresh
QB- jr with a jr backup and top fresh on campus and coming in
THIS TEAM IS EXTREMELY YOUNG, ravaged with injuries and PLAYING one of the HARDEST SCHEDULES in the country
They will only get better and more dangerous
Consider this year baptism by fire for a young young talented team

How many failed times having Stafford run a QB draw does it take before Bobo takes it out of his gameplan . You got a NFL type arm with 2 great receivers , but we run draws on 3rd down trying to catch the defense off guard . With Stafford running , you take the chance of him getting hurt , he’s taking enough hits already , also where does the tightend or fullback have a part in this offense. We’ve produced NFL calibur tightends for years , now all of a sudden opposing have nothing to fear from anyone but 2 wideouts , runningback , and QB , if this were enough , then why aren’t we blowing people out . Bobo , please look at the middle of field once in a while , you will see that defenses no have to fear being hurt there , make em pay , make em fear the dawgs !!! Said my peace !!!

AZll of that we are young at every position sounds great, however the coaching is very vital to young players. With the same young defense we had last year with 9 returning starters, we got worse,,,, because of coaching or lack there of. Stafford was young and talented last year, but has his acurracy improved? Thgis notion that just because a player is coming back next year means that we will be better is a flase notion, if the same coaches come back, we will get the same results.

You, sir, are FOS.
It is absolutely TRUE when you are BCS Eligible, as UGA is today now, at 9-2 in the BCS Top 10 and return players who then are Juniors and Seniors with SIGNIFICANT RETURNING STARS as Sophomores next season then sir, you are ASSURED of a better football team.
Anyone who posts what you do to the contary knows NOTHING about college football.
And, even less about Coach Richt.
I am not the 1 disappointed over an 11-2 BCS Eligible Top 10 season - you are bandwagon fan - because I said all year in this blog that UGA would lose 2 games this season.
As Dawg4Life told you, you are the 1 who ran in here and said UGA with the Absolute Toughest NCAA Number 1 Official Strength of Schdule, would win the National Championship this season or next season.

Mark Richt is a very good person but does not have the killer instinct it takes to win a national championship-he is to afraid of hurting someones feelings. We have great talent on our team but the defensive coach and offensive coach are making them look like bozo the clowns. Unless Mark Richt can change his stance- we will need someone like the evil genius or Alabama coach. You have got to go in and beat these teams in the ground like Urban cryer did to us in the florida game or you get no respect in the polls. Mark Richt will never do that, it may make him a good person but not a great college football coach. Sorry Bulldog players it obvious who has the problems this year-Poor Coaching! Grow some Guts Mark Richt-the Bulldog Nation is Hungry for a National Championship!!

Great to see all the nerd fans on this morning saying UGA is a disappointment. They do need a forum to vent their frustrations and try to justify their existence due to such a sh!tty football team and conference. Why not voice their opinion about how they are proud of their team? Oh that’s right…their team sucks….people throughout the country make fun of them and by god, people just don’t like them. Their “team” has been beaten by UGA 7 years in a row and they know they will be an underdog (that would mean you are expected to lose nerd fans…..thought I might help you out with those tough sport terms mom never taught you down in the basement). What else do they have to offer other than trying to tear down the team that is superior to them?

UGA barely got by a sorry Auburn team. This year they will not get by Tech flip and fly offense; if we can keep down the turn overs. Turn overs killed us in all three loses. We had well over 300 yards rushing against NC but turned the ball over three times in then second half.
In other news; Three Tech grads flew the space shuttle to the international space station this week. Could a dawg ever work for NASA? No! They couldn’t get a job with that worthless football player education, other than washing dishes at Waffle House or as a Wal-Mart greeter.

With this kind of atheletes, we are absolutely UNDER achiever period. Look how the CUM coach their. Players having fun killing the opposition teams. CUM and the FU has the same attitude as those USC, OU, UTx, trying to score as much points possible. If CMR keep his side kick (Willow Martinez) next year, no matter what kind of atheletes we will have we will stay in second rated team of SEC. Dooley never let any team pushing his team around like a rag doll! Lastly, if Bobo don’t change his attitude quickly, we will never be a first class team. Those fancy calling is just so simple and predictable. Hard to understand right! Every teams know Bobo will change (killing the flow) the call “abruptly” in the red zone. He call “hit and wish” kind of thing. What wrong with old fashion smack mouth football? Don’t change the call to much when it is working for 60, 70 yards out. Watch your films for the past 100 red zone offenses and find your pattern, it is PREDICTABLE!!!

This team has no enthusiam. They can’t block or tackle. Marino is over rated. The play calling was so predictable I knew what was going to happen. The defence couldn’t tackle. Man, this team has a lot to go to live up to their 9 - 2 record. I guess the old saying “I’d rather be lucky than good” prevails.
Stafford and Marino may need to stay at Georgia another year. Their stock keeps going down. How many rounds are there in the Draft? Probably not enough for them to get drafted.
It was nice to see Richt finally take off his Hollywood shades. Now maybe he and his staff can start coaching and motivating. They are lucky they weren’t playing Michigan.

Its obvious that Staff is a better runner than he is a passer. If you don’t like the national TV announcers praising Florida, you should have called them during the Alabama-Florida blitzkreigs and begged them to take your team off the air. After the announcers had to watch UGA in those two games for a full 60 minutes, what do you expect ? I’ll take any BIG 12 team and give you any SEC team plus 7 points in a nat champ game this year. If Tech beats UGA this year, it won’t mean much because UGA isn’t the team it used to be. For Tech the UNC and Virginia games were much more important.

So much for the players only meeting working because it did nothing to improve the play of the team against Auburn (they played worse). The team is missing a real leader on both sides of the ball. If they want to be #1 at the end of the next year they better find some real leaders before next season. CMR staffing problem is the Offense Coordinator (is learning on the job) and the Defense Coordinator have personalities to much like his on personality which is a bad thing if you want to be great and move UGA to the “ELITE” status like FL and USC. Someone got to light a fire under the players @#$ when they are under performing that is were the player leaders and coordinators come in play. It is CMR job to make everything come together as a team (players/coaches/school/fans) to make UGA great.

This would not be as dissapointing if we were 9-2 and competitive in the Alabama & Florida games. Secondary is not as good as they think they are. They play soft coverage and when they play tight they get beat. They make a good play and pound their chest as if they have played great. Stop the showboat dancing on the sideline and act like you have some class!!!I know these are kids and should have fun but do it in a respectful way. I am a UGA Grad and pull for the dogs every week. Win with style and not like you have never done it before. Stafford and Moreno need one more year to polish their skills.

As the previous post has alluded to and I have stated numerous times, the weakest link in the defensive scheme is the secondary. It has been this way for the past couple of years. Some of the offensive play calling is so predictable. On the first quarter drive to the three yard line, your running game is going gangbusters and you throw the fade to the corner of the end zone. Everyone in the house knew it was coming, and Auburn is breathing a little easier. Then the big jellies up front allow them to get through and block the attempted field goal, giving new life to a team that is one of the lower performing teams in the SEC. And just like last week, a team that should have been put away early gets to believing that they can pull the upset. If you leave a team around long enough it becomes dangerous. I think this was in Coaching Principles 101; Richt, Bobo, and Martinez. Apparently you didn’t do your homework. Well boys you have a week to get ready for another running quarterback and a stout defense. Are you up to the task?

Stafford completed 15 of 24 passes for 2 TDs and no Ints on a day with high, swirling winds. Not a bad day at all. His stats are pretty good this year considering that UGA is a run first team and that he has to go long from time to time to back the safeties off the line. Otherwise all opposing Ds would keep 9 in the box all game long. Other teams have to stop Moreno, so the deep ball will be there, if the WR can go get it. You guys that stay on Staff’s case should try hitting a man 45 or 50 yds downfield when he is at a dead run and You have a couple of 300 lb DTs in your face!

I still think USC is number 1 and UGA should be number 2, but it won’t matter as they will meet for the title in Miami come January.

We have the best RB (who will probably get at least 2 chances on punt returns) and arguably the best QB in the country, 27 receivers that can step in and play, and a defense that is averaging like 57 ypg. Let JPW throw the ball, Reshad Jones loves getting those picks. Not to mention, Alabama starts more true freshmen than UGA does. This game is close at half, UGA pulls away in second half. UGA 28 Alabama 17.

Little did they know Bama was going to rape them on national tv on blackout night or that Fla. was going to leave them for dead on the Jax turf for the 16th time in 19 games.
This may be the worst, luckiest 9-2 team I’ve ever seen. When they win against the weakest teams they just barely get by. I can’t see that luck lasting the whole season. If any have stayed with this blog..and I only read about a third…I am as loyal a Dawg fan as there is…I’ve played and coached the game..BUT, I am disappointed..not in the overall record..but in the playcalling and defensive coaching. Auburn defense adjusted during the game and closed down our run..can’t we adjust or are we tied to a preconceived game plan and can’t adjust when confronted with a different defense or offense then planned??? I respect CMR and staff but I am disappointed in their failure to learn..the old Einstein rub we’ve seen before,”doing the same thing over and over and expected a different result is insanity” holds true…THINK coaches..don’t let Tech ruin our season here at the end..I’m disappointed but not done with you…GO DAWGS!!!!

I have a suggestion. Lets get CMR promoted to AD. Then he can continue playing Mr NiceGuy at the Rotary Clubs, Chamber of Commerce, Booster Clubs all over the place, and whatever other Civic Clubs need a nice person to say grace. THEN, go get the old ball coach from SC, and give him free rein. I bet the story would change day 1, and the players would shape up or ship out. Losing those football scholarships might just be the motivation needed to get those guys playing together instead of cheap shots on the field that they seem to enjoy today. Penalties would be a four letter word, and those that get them will have to pay dearly at practice and maybe even 6pm curfew. How would they like that?!!?!?!?!?!

Yesterdays game might as well have been a loss. That was one of the worst Georgia games I’ve seen….well….since the Georgia vs. Bama game a month ago. No, take that back, it was the Florida loss the week before last.
This has been one of the most dissapointing Dawg seasons in a long time. I know we only have two losses…and they are to two teams in the top 3 (or 4) in the country. Yet, after watching this team play this season…this has got to be the most over-rated….underachieving Georgia teams in some time. I mean, at least under Ray Goff & Jim Donnin we knew were average and wins were only bonuses, ya know? We knew the first few years with Richt we were re-building, etc. Last year I think we peaked. I think Stafford & crew…and especially Knowshon Moreno…saw all the magazine covers and the number one rankings at the start of the season and believed it all…instead of ignoring it all.
Oh well, here we come…. (insert meaningless bowl game here)

Since the BCS system will not allow 3 SEC teams into their 5 post season games, AND since UGA can’t beat Florida or Alabama while playing an SEC schedule, I say join the ACC as fast as the ink can dry. We can beat either FL or AL with 3 weeks to prepare, which is exactly what an ACC schedule, as well as a Jan 7th bowl game, affords. Think about it, 0-1 loss seasons each and every year as well as guaranteed Orange Bowl’s the years we don’t make the National Championship game. Are we stupid or what? Plus the TECH game would have double meaning. It would be like we had won 14 instead of just 7 straight years.

This season has been so draining it is not even funny. I appreciate being 9-2 with a chance for another 10 win season (5 out 6 but who is counting). And I want Richt to stay but when is it going to be time to take that next step? I know getting to the national championship is as much about luck as skill but I really want to see this team take the next step. I want to see us punish and dominate teams we are supposed to dominate. I know this season was derailed by injuries but we cannot make that out as our primary scapegoat. Believe it or not the run defense was great for most of the year until the LSU game. The pass rush has been pretty non-existent the whole year. The only superstar we have on the defensive line right now is Geno Atkins. The linebackers have been decent with one exception which is Rennie Curran who is a superstar. The defensive backs have been a huge disappointment. Asher Allen has been the only one to live up to his hype. And its not even about just the pass coverage, their tackling ability has left a lot to be desired. Note to the safeties, see what you hit please. Don’t turn your head and try to deliver the knock out blow because that is not your game. But the one thing i see missing is just the overall intensity. Back in the Van Gorder days, the intensity and speed we played with on defense just seemed at such a way higher level than it is under Martinez. Teams use to fear this defense under Van Gorder because rest assured if you dared to go over the middle to catch the ball you would be punished. The offense, as disappointing as it is, has led the SEC in total offensive yards for most of the year. We just need to put points on the board. As much as Stafford has improved this year, he still has one glaring weakness that he needs to work on in the off-season….THE DEEP BALL. He has struggled with the deep ball his whole career. If he is able to develop an accurate deep ball he would nearly be unstoppable. Knowshon is the man…nothing to be said about him. The receivers have been great the last two years so I don’t understand why anybody would really be ragging on them. Offensive line is going to be absolutely stout the next couple of years. Overall, im just ready for the season to be over and on to next year. Honestly, i wont be upset if Stafford decides to leave. If he does then fine, but i won’t moan because you don’t throw away number one pick money. If Knowshon decides to leave, i would be upset but understanding because the shelf life of a running back is rather small. Im just ready for a new look and new attitude to this team. I want to see what a true speed rusher like Cornelius Washington can bring to the team. I want to see what Toby Jackson and Abry Jones can bring to this team. And more than likely, all will play because of the lack of production from this years group. I want to see a healthy o-line on the field with more added depth like Chris Burnette, Dallas Lee, Austin Long, and more than likely JK Jay. I want to see what an improved and stronger AJ Green can do on top of this already great season. I’m just ready for the new year where this team will start in the 10-15 rankings at the beginning of year. Regain the hunger to be the best like previous years and not feel entitled like this year because of your number one ranking. We will know if they are serious about redeeming themselves in the offseason…and i think everyone knows what that means (Hint:Staying out of trouble).

If Georgia were already in the ACC we would currently be 10-0 this season and ranked 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the BCS rankings. AND guaranteed to keep climbing over the next 3 weeks by beating GA-Tech once (like we always do) and then again in our ACC Championship game. All WHILE Alabama, Florida, Texas Tech and Oklahoma knock each other out (In my opinion, it will be Texas that gets screwed like Auburn did).
Yep, if Georgia was in the ACC today, we’d be guaranteed a spot in the National Championship game at best and a spot in the Orange Bowl at worst.

GT Joe,
I do hope you and the nerds show up in Athens on Nov. 22. Unfortunately for you, the game is on Nov. 29…..idiot.
The Ohio State Douchebags…..see ya in the Capitol One Bowl. Are you sure ya’ll want to play an SEC school in a bowl again?
Tech Nerds: Struggling to beat Gardner Webb @ home is a little different than struggling with Auburn on the road.
Gators: Nice win. You’ve intimidated everyone you’ve faced since the loss to Ole Miss. Saban and Bama will not be intimidated. Watch Lil’ Nicky show Urban Crier and his boy Tebow how to smear that spread all over the field.

Well regardless of how the Dawgs finish this year, I hope Mark Richt and his staff will use this year as a learning experience for this team. I’m not a fan of Lou Holtz per se… But I agree with what he says when it comes to building a championship team ” They have to learn how to be competitive before they can learn how to win. Once they learn how to win then they need to learn how to handle winning. And once they learn how to handle winning, then they are ready to win championships”. Winning a National Championship in college football takes some luck. The Urban Meyer’s, Barry Switzer’s, Pete Carroll’s and Les Miles’ of the world who win championships in their second or third year are rare. All three of these men are good coaches who stepped into good situations. Joe Paterno started coaching in 1966 and didn’t win one until 1982. Vince Dooley started coaching in 1964 and didn’t win one until 1980. Tom Osbourne’s Nebraska teams didn’t win National Titles until his last 4 years of coaching when they won 3 out of 4 years between 1994-1997. Bobby Bowden started coaching in the late 1950’s and didn’t win his first National Championship until 1993! So let’s get some perspective people! Mark Richt is a good coach. This is the first time in his tenure that the National spotlight has been on his program and right now his program isn’t quite ready for that next step. So what he needs to do is learn from others who have made the jump to national championship level and apply some of what they do to the UGA program.

It’s a good thing we don’t play in the ACC. We would’t have three wins. UF is the only SEC team that would compete in the ACC. I’ll bet GT wishes they were in the SEC. They would be 10-0.

Well, if we want to make the jump at some future date with this football program, we must quit giving out all our scholarships by September when they cannot sign until February.
There have always been some of the Top High School Talent in the Nation who just like to make a Splash Signing Day, and yet here we sit with arguably 1 of the better football teams in the nation every single year and NO Tight End on the roster and NO Defensive End.
I have been more than a little disappointed with the quarterback signings through the Coach Richt Era, as we have had 1 too many every single year. So, we have 1 very good recruit (who could be playing Tight End or Defensive End, for example) wasted at quarterback. What lesson have we learned about that ? None. Next season, once again, we have clearly and arguably the top quarterback class committed AGAIN.
And, who do we have for commitments at tight end for next season by contrast, for example ? 1 guy with 4.93 speed in the 40-yard dash. Who do we have at Defensive End, for example too ? 1 guy with 4.93 speed in the 40-yard dash.
For a school that has had the most Tight Ends and Most Defensive Ends in the NFL the entire Coach Richt Era, this is just astounding that we have wasted our scholarships - a precious commodity - again next season.
Blake Barnes would have been ok at QB. DJ Shockley would have been ok at QB. Joe Cox would have been ok at QB. Are we to say the same about Logan Gray, now that next season, if Matthew Stafford doesn’t go in the draft, that we have Joe Cox as a senior, Logan Gray as a Sophomore, and 2 more phenoms - both of whom (Mettenberger & Murray) would start at three-fourths of the teams in the country.
It’s been the same exact story every year. Coach Richt says that he always wants to have 3 Quarterbacks on his roster, but Good Lord…
5 of the best quarterbacks in the nation and not 1 Tight End and not 1 Defensive End again next year, as it is this season.
We are now Number 85 at sacking opposing quarterbacks.

Frankly, we have done the same thing at running back too and at receiver positions.
Yet we cannot have even 1 Tight End or even 1 Defensive End
Whatever happened to 2 Tight End sets ?
Bookend Defensive Ends ?
We have done the same thing at Linebacker every year that we have done with too many wide receivers, too many quarterbacks, too many running backs, and that is too many linebackers every year too. And, the real problem is that we waste scholarship offers and commitments 6 months before signing day at a position already well stocked beyond any reasonable count at these 4 positions : QB, LB, RB, WR.
If you look at QB RB & LB in the Coach Richt Era, you will see that these players are all great. We have been unable to play all the players Coach Richt has accepted Commitments from 6 months early before Signing Day at LB RB and QB every year he has coached here; and, this is year 9 next season.
Coach Richt has had this Blip on the Radar Screen on the Offensive Line and the Defensive Line all 9 years, where we go class after class after class without any commitment whatsoever at offensive line positions nor at defensive line positions. Then, he signs 8 OL ranked the best OL class in the nation, and redshirts every single one : He does not even try to smooth it out by have 3 of the 8 signed play so that he doesn’t have 8 all in 1 class. Coach Richt signed 6 OL the year before that, and they too every one were redshirted to not lessen the impact of 6 OL in 1 class when in neither of the 3 classes before that had Coach Richt signed 1 single solitary OL.
Look at Urban Meyer, for example if you will please ?
What did Urban Meyer suffer from last year ?
No Running Back and no defensive secondary stick out like a sore thumb.

Just like Coach Richt has these HOLES at Tight End and Defensive End.
What did Urban Meyer go do ?
He filled those positions with the top players in the nation.
Nick Saban has done the same thing.
Even Jim Tressel went out and signed Terrelle Pryor. He actually finally figured out to play him this season, which he should have done on day 1.
And, the real problem is that we have totally wasted scholarships at many positions on players that frankly don’t belong on this team.
Did we need Butler and Walsh at kicker ?
Did we need Brown, Evans, Miller, Cuff, Boykin, Pugh, and now Love all at cornerback ? Really ? Can you name several of those who have had zero impact on the team and could have been invested in a Tight End or Defensive End on Signing Day if we had saved some of our precious Roster Scholarships ?
We sign players from the whole entire nation.
We read every year that this top recruit at a needs position on this team says that he wasn’t offered, and he is moving on.
We had needed wide receivers frankly all 8 seasons of the Coach Richt Era. Kudos for actually getting AJ Green.
And, actually playing him and not redshirting him like Coach Richt did Knowshon Moreno, who it is rumored will be 2 seasons here and gone now, as a direct result.
AJ Green at least we get for 3 seasons.
We have Signed 5 Safeties the last 2 years. 5. Are there some of these who will have zero impact on this program ? You tell me, please. Banks, Jones, Knox, Cumming, Rambo. We did not have a Scholarship to offer any Safety the year before that and only 1 the year before that. So, today we have Byrd at Safety as a Senior and no Junior.
By ............................................BuLLdawg
November 17, 2008 4:13 AM | Link to this
We are clueless at this folks.
Did you know we have 11 Linebackers ? Only 3 are Seniors or Juniors. That’s 8 who are Sophomores or newer. You can only put 3 out there at a time. Are we so knock-kneed that we are Signing 3 more Linebackers next season and yet 1 DE at 4.93 and 1 TE at 4.93 speed in the 40-yard dash. Are there any of these 11 linebackers who will have zero impact on this program ?
What if you had just 1 mind you top Defensive End instead ? Would we be Number 85 at sacking opposing quarterbacks this season ?
What if we had just 1 mind you Tight End instead ? Would we be playing a Tight End who the week before we pressed him into service had announced he was having surgery ?
We are so torn up about which of the plethora of fullbacks to actually play that we can get zero rhythm at the position.
We signed Chapas and Munzenmaier the same year when we already had Brannan Southerland. So, we redshirted them both. Now, we have next season both of them as Juniors. And, zero Senior Fullbacks, zero Freshman Fullbacks and Zero Recruits at the position. Wouldn’t it have been more fair to Munzenmaier to have simply said we are Signing Shaun Chapas, and if you were a year separated (preferably 2 years separated) we would have signed you too and instead take a true tight end or true defensive end ?
Well ?

We have zero Senior and zero Junior Running Backs. So, we Signed Knowshon Moreno. What did we do ? Redshirt him. So, that we have zero Senior and zero Junior running backs. Jeez Louise, this is stupid beyond reason that we continue this clueless evaluation of position by class that we have no clue of what we are doing in this regard. So, go ahead. Tell me what we did after we Signed what everyone said was the 3rd best running back in the United States of America ? I mean besides redshirting him so we get to see him 2 years only with no RB in either of the 2 Signing Classes BEFORE Knowshon ? I will tell you what we did. With Knowshon Redshirted, we signed 5 Running Backs last year. 5. We have again, now, no senior, no junior, 1 sophomore, and now 5 freshman running backs. Any of these that just might have been useful at DE or TE for example ?
I tell you again, that if you want to go to the next level, you need a far better evaluation of the 85 Scholarships by Position by Class. We did not have the talent this year to do better than a 2-Loss Season. And, to the totally oblivious to all this who know nothing of college football who now say they are unhappy and dissatisfied with a 2-Loss Season when we were ranked Preseason Number 1 with all these wastes of Scholarships at some positions while disregarding other positions totally on the roster, please FIND YOURSELF A DIFFERENT TEAM TO ROOT FOR because I said we would Lose 2 games this season in every single post I ever posted on this blog as a direct result of the fact that we are clueless to sign 17 players at one position all in 1 year and then not fill any other position, then the following year sign 17 at some other position and have them all mature together without redshirting them all or playing them all in the same year to spread it out at that position, and have others who everyone was quite aware would actually never fit in at their position with what we otherwise already have at their position here.
Why is it I have to tell you these things ? You only have 85 Scholarships, the same as everyone else now. Some understand that; some do not. NC ? You are FOS.

BuLLdawg, get a grip dude.
Congratulations to the Dawgs and a classic UGA/Auburn showdown. That was old school! The O-Line looked great. Ben Jones and Cordy Glenn actually beat Moreno to the end zone on that TD screen and were knocking corners and safeties out of the way like they were small children! Defense came up big when they had to and Green looked like Dwight Clark and Randy Moss rolled into one! Another 100+ yard performance by Moreno and Stafford was in control of the offense all day. Huge congrats to coach Searels and Mark Richt - great intesity on the field and on the sidelines. Great job!!! Band sounded good , too.

We got the win. That is what matters.
Defense is troubling. The main reason is the DLine just cannot get pressure on the QB. Problem they have all season. And when you have to experienced QB like Teebow and Wilson….well there is your two loses.
But what is REALLY troubling is the penalties.WHAT THE F&%K?There is no excuse for 6 personal foul penalites. Two cancelled out by the other teams. And it is week after week, and the same players over and over. That is a product of coaching. And the special teams performance.Same poor effort….week after week.
So no, NC and no BCS. So what does the team do now? Let’s start by focusing on what is left. Georgia Tech and a Bowl game. How do you do it. Get rid of the personal fouls that are killing you as a team. Start working on special teams like it is for your families life. And find a way to get some pressure on the QB.
I will do my part……figure I can drink till next year. And wake up and it’s 09.Then you won’t have to here me b*&^ch!

I was at the game and thought it was a good win by the dawgs. It was extremely windy out there and I knew as soon as I showed up that it was going to be a low scoring defensive battle. If you thought it was going to be a blow out you were sadly mistaken. The only game Auburn was beaten badly was 2nd half vs west va on the road. I thought it was a gutsy win. We need to get ready for a tough game vs a much improved GT. Go Dawgs!!

Good luck Cuz. Hang in there, we are all with you.
You guys who are so upset with a coach that wins 80% of his games amaze me. As they say, you had better be careful what you ask for. It wasn’t that long ago when UGA would have been overjoyed to win at that clip. But, I guess, some just have to whine about something — assuming that they are really DAWG fans. Now, if only Tech can pull the upset of the decade.

Wow, lots of apologist posts on here, but I’m glad to see a few reasonable people who see this team for what it is: very, very lucky this year. We could easily be 5-6 this season.
Those of you giving us the ol’ “just another tough SEC road win” or “your typical Auburn-Georgia game” or “a win is a win” lines, please spare us. You’re the same people who wrote off the South Carolina game with the same damn excuses. A few of us on here said “WAKE UP” and warned that if we play like that against Alabama, UF, etc., we’re going to lose. Face it - we’re only a little better than Auburn, only a little better than SC, only a little better than Kentucky this year. The scoreboards don’t lie.
As in so many games this year, the Dawgs did just the bare minimum needed to escape with a win. This seems to be our offensive philosophy this year. Unfortunately it doesn’t hold up when you’re playing the really good teams on our schedule - Florida and Alabama. They cream us.
Georgia was so flawed in this game, I don’t even know where to begin. The penalties (complete lack of discipline)… the pathetic red zone offense/playcalls (how many incomplete fade routes does Bobo need to call before he figures out we can’t pull them off)… the complete lack of pressure on the opposition QB (I’m not even talking about blitzes - the DL couldn’t pressure their own mommas out there)… the worst special teams play I’ve seen from UGA during the Richt era (penalties, poor decisions on returns, kickoffs out of bounds, etc.)?
If we play like this vs. Tech we may still win the game, but it won’t be pretty. It will be very close.

I confess I don’t know that much about how teams pick who they pick and why, you seem to make a good case, until I hear better. I wonder if Meyer and Saban are making those same errors with their scholarships? Somehow I doub’t it! I’ve been a die hard Fan for 40+ years, I’m not a bandwagon fan, everyone who offers criticism is termed a bandwagon fan, that’s aload of crap!! No one in my opinion is a more dedicated fan than me and I’m sure you feel the same about yourself.
The simpletons just don’t realize how close a team that was pre-season #1 almost had a .500 season, they will say closeness doesn’t count. They are happy and content with a team that has done nothing but play down to the level of our competition(or are we not as good as we thought we were?)and not even show up for the teams that we were supposed to compete with. Ignorance is truly BLISS!!

For those of you who think an SEC win is enough; you’re wrong. Fla just handed Spurrier his biggest loss in his coaching career. The same S.C. team that had to fumble in the endzone late in the 4th to preserve a win. The same S.C. team that plays in the SEC. The same S.C. team that we couldn’t do jack against.
I agree that the SEC is the strongest conference top to bottom, but just because a team plays in the SEC doesn’t mean the game should be close. Auburn stinks this year. They’ve stunk all year. They’re terrible. To win UGLY by 4 on the last play of the game to a team that is having arguably it’s worst year under Tubberville?? Not acceptable.
I watched 3 SEC games Saturday. 2 of them were blowouts. Why were they blowouts? Bama and Florida were playing inferior teams within their conference. They did exactly what they were supposed to do. Blow them out, and look good doing it!!
We have a loooooooooong way to go before next season.

Chip:
1 I think the offense is working strictly off the athleticism of its QB, RB’s, and receivers due to the banged up offensive line. We score a lot more points with a healthy offensive line. The hands to the facemask by offensive linemen are due to inexperience and will be corrected as they mature.
2 The defense has been placed in bad positions by the special teams the last 2 games. They have made some stupid personal fouls and that needs to be coached out of them.
3 Do you know if we have a Special Teams Coach and a Kicking Coach?
Special teams have almost cost us the last 2 games. If we do have those 2 coaches, they need to teach their special teams players how to play special teams. That kid fumbling the punt into the end zone against KY and thinking he had to run it out and getting tackled at the 2 yard line is poor coaching.
Coach Hartman was Coach Dooley’s kicking coach years ago and I know Coach Hartman passed away. Is there one now?
Finally we got blown out against UF and UA. I don’t mind that. One is number 1 and the other will be number 1 when it is all over.
But we should look better prepared against the rest. I am thankful and grateful we won them, but we would have not had to struggle with strong special teams play and good kicking.

I try not to question play calling and things of that nature, even when I’m sitting at home really confused over the oddness. I realize that the coaches obviously saw something that made them think that certain plays would work. No big deal. I’ve felt like Coach Richt has done a great job of representing UGA. But a comment I read today about Moreno’s attitude in practice since being criticized for taking himself out of games made me cringe. He thanked the fans for lighting a fire under him. I thought that was the coach staff’s job. I’ve seen Richt explode on the officials, but never on the players. I believe in positive reinforcement, but if you can’t get your players’ attention then you have a major problem. One question would have solved that problem when it started occuring. Are you hurt? No, then get your tail back out there. Our offense goes through you, we’ll decide when Caleb and Richard get their playing time. End of discussion.

Richt learned his trade at miami and f$u, with teams filled with thugs. He recruits the same type of thug at UGA, has no discipline and tells players to break rules during the games to get “fired up”. Chip,
If CMR does take any questions this week, would you ask him about how many times Stafford changes the play at the line? He’s always making checkdowns…….especially when he runs the ball himself or throws the fade.
Greene & Shock were two of the smartest QB’s when it came to reading D’s and making the right checkdowns. In CMR’s opinion, is Stafford at the same level as those guys?

While we didn’t meet the high expectations set at the begining of this year, we could still end strong! We need Stafford and Moreno back to finish the drill behind a healthy deep o-line in 2009. Don’t go to the NFL, come back one more season.
