UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Moreno, others hear your questions

As we have the last couple of weeks, I vowed to answer or get answered your more prevalent questions posed here on Monday. Since then I had three interview opportunities with the team (one with coach Mark Richt): Monday night after practice, Tuesday’s press luncheon and Tuesday night after practice. Let’s get right to it.

(1) Many of you wondered about Knowshon Moreno taking himself out of games, particularly at a couple of inopportune moments against Florida.

Moreno: “It’s just keeping a good rotation out there and keeping everybody fresh. I’m not really tired out there. I’m really energetic guy. It’s not really about tired. It’s more about keeping the rotation going.”

[But isn’t Georgia better off with you out there rather than Caleb King, I asked] “I see the stuff Caleb does in practice,” Moreno said. “He knows what he’s doing. He’s a really good athlete. We’re not really losing a step when he’s in there. The same thing with Richard [Samuel]. We wouldn’t be losing with a step with Richard in there either. We have some really good backs back there.”

There was a little more to this but I’m writing a story for the paper, which should be up later this evening.

(2) What’s the motivation moving ahead?

Believe it or not, Georgia can still make it to the SEC Championship Game. Yes, it is very unlikely but the fact is it is still possible. And as we all know after last season (remember Pitt over West Virginia?) anything can happen. I called the SEC to verify the scenarios. Here’s what has to happen: (a) Florida has to lose Saturday at Vanderbilt, which would be a monumental upset but, hey, they have to play the game and also to South Carolina (again, unlikely but not beyond the realm of possibility), and Georgia and Vanderbilt win out, then Dogs go via head-to-had tiebreaker; (b) if Florida loses to Vanderbilt and wins out in the SEC, and Georgia and Vandy win out in the SEC, then it goes to the last of seven tiebreakers between the three 6-2 teams, which is highest BCS ranking. It’s still a longshot Georgia would be ahead of Florida since the Gators put a 49-10 thumping on the Dogs, so they’d probably need Florida to lose to Florida State as well.

“Until we’re mathematically eliminated, we’re still focused on winning the East,” Richt said.

Also, there has been a lot of talk about getting 11 wins again.

(3) Should Richard Samuel be playing more?

Well, of course, Richard Samuel thinks so. I talked to him after practice Tuesday night and he said he doesn’t know if he will be but he seems to be getting more reps on kickoff return in practice (he had three returns for 99 yards with a long of 60 against the Gators). Samuel bobbled a couple of those and practically had to be tackled by his own teammate to be kept from bringing the ball out from six yards deep in the end zone. CMR hinted said he might have to get a few offensive carries but there aren’t many left over after Moreno and King.

(4) Willie Martinez (and Mike Bobo) gotta go.

The defensive and offensive coordinators are always targets after a loss like Georgia had to Florida. No, I didn’t come right out and ask CMR is he was considering firing either guy. There are still four games left to play this season and the Dogs likely will be favored in them all. So let’s let the season play out. But Richt did say Tuesday “I believe in our defense” and said the same thing about the offense and about kicker Blair Walsh. Sorry fellas, but Richt doesn’t share Tommy Tuberville’s philosophy on coordinators. But I can assure you it’ll be brought up the downward trends continue.

(5) How are the players taking it?

Pretty good considering. I walked by the weight room Monday night and watched through the glass wall about a minute and the music was cranked up loud and the players were laughing and joking and getting after each other to lift more and go harder, etc. And there’s definitely an edge to them in interviews. I’ll let senior defensive tackle Corvey Irvin handle it from here.

Irvin: “It’s over. The game is over. They hyped it up, ‘big payback’ and all this. We just made too many mistakes, offense, defense, special teams, we made too many mistakes. I’ll still say we’re the better team on any good day. You put Georgia on a good day, y’all know how good we can be; y’all seen it. Life goes on. Football, I believe it teaches you to be a man. When adversity hits, let’s see how you respond. I figure right now nobody respects Georgia, they probably say we’re a fluke, we were the number one team in the preseason and probably calling us overrated. But, hey, we’re gonna go and make a statement against Kentucky, see if we can get our swagger back.”

So you don’t come out because your tired you have to honor some “rotation”? I remember the rotation used when Herschel was the tailback. They rotated running Herschel outside and up the middle, he never came to the sideline or looked at the sideline and I remember 1 fumble in 3 years. Get Samuel in there, anybody can pad their stats against Georgia Southern and Western Kentucky. I don’t care about a few espn highlights a year, gimme 25 carries for 125 yards a game. We shoulda offered Dwyer.

How many times has Clemson beat Georgia with Richt at the helm?

How many BCS bowls has Clemson played under Bowden?

Chip,

Last year Moreno didn’t take breathers or rotate when Brown was hurt. He proved that he can wear down defenses and got stronger as the game went along. Bottom line - he’s leaving yards on the table. King is talented, but Knowshon is a rare breed. If he leaves after this season, we’ll know why. This team had a chance to win on Saturday and had chances to really put some teams away (ASU getting stuffed on the goal line twice, Vandy, & Tenn.) all of which saw Knowshon on the sidelines at critical points in the game. He’s potetially cost the team victories and himself the Heisman.

Save the rotation for 4th Quarter. If all the attention toward this issue causes him to keep himself in the final 3 games, and we blow teams out, I’m going to be very disappointed.

How about asking the question who is accountable. I read in another column that CMR & Bobo feel the play calling was OK and the execution was poor. Who is accountable for the poor execution. I was pretty upset with Willie after the game, but Hondo of Dawg Talk’s latest blog kinda made me re-think that.

In it he pointed out :

Florida started THREE drives within the 25 yard line on Saturday. They started at the 1 yard line, the 10 yard line, and the 25 yard line. And we were playing against a former Heisman trophy winner and easily one of the top 5 or 10 offenses in the nation.

Overall Florida’s average starting field position was the Georgia 47 yard line. That’s basically UF playing with half a field all game. Again, that is to a former Heisman trophy winner and easily one of the top 5 or 10 offenses in the nation. I don’t care how good your D is, you’re gonna give up a lot of points there.

It comes down to execution by the players. The miscommunication (assisted by PI) on the first pick thrown, the fumble by Know-Mo, the other picks. That’s what did it. And crappy Penn Wagers didn’t help either.

WOW, Moreno comes out because he is not tired, some coaching philosophy there, Great work Boo Boo, what are we thinking, I guess they are keeping him freah for the Raiders to draft. CMR you have got to do something about Boo Boo and Sweet Willie, their lack of planning and their inability to motivate the talent we have will eventually come back to you and then you can go back to Florida State or Miami and coach, your better tighten it up quick, or become another mediocre coach of a mediocre team…………..

I do have a problem with Knowshon taking himself out - it wrecks our bread-and-butter play action passing. If you’re in a rhythm with KM, he needs to stay in there simply to pull off the deception.

Also, we seem to be pretty predictable when Caleb comes in b/c my basic impression is that we run with him when he enters.

The red zone issues come down to our switching from our offensive identity of a passing team (between the 20s) to a running team. Our o-line is just not run blocking to the level it needs to be able to pound it in there (especially in the red zone where things get tight). For this year anyway, we have to accept that the pass sets up the run.

We finally have a bevy of big and tall receivers - let’s use them!

I am a rabid UGA fan, and this season has been an unreal let down. The expectations were way too high, and the coaches did not get these guys motivated to play hard for 4 qtrs. The reality is that with all these blow outs the dawgs have set themselves back in terms of national respect and credibility. We will have be the ones blowing out other teams next year in order to get that respect back. It goes beyond this year, and I honestly dont know if we can be better next year.

Moreno should WANT to be in that game, he should REFUSE to be taken out. That game was the season. Great players make great plays in BIG games. As much as I HATE FL, Tebow showed that he is leader. Stafford/Moreno have not. Those are things that cannot be taught they are instinctive talents. The coaches better un-frig themselves before we become the Clemson of the SEC.

When KM comes out like he did in the second half drive that stalled at the FL 20 after flying down the field on play action passes and KM runs, the defense can put more men in the box because King is usually called on to run since his pass blocking is confused and timid; often leading the other defense to be more aggressive with their pass rush. This is the reason for the offense struggling inside the 20 when KM trots to the bench.

You people are idiots. Stand by your team. If you new anything about football, you would be coaching somewhere. Was it not just last year and the beginning of this year that Bobo was being tabbed as the next big thing. He has only been an o-coordinator for a year and a half. He gets cute in the red zone, because we don’t trust our O-line to line up and move people consistently. Remember, we lost our best o-lineman and starting left tackle and his back up. We also lost our starting DT and the leader of our defense. Martinez has consistently fielded top 25 units. Everyone needs to chill out. We do not want Richt fired, he is the best thing to ever happen to UGA since Vince Dooley and Herschel Walker.

What I have not seen discussed anywhere is the referees’ contribution to the UF victory. Yes, UGA made huge mistakes in execution. There’s plenty of discussion around that theme here and elsewhere. Now: What put UGA in the position to make those huge errors was 3 or 4 major missed calls. They were blatant enough that I don’t even have to list them here.

I’m disappointed by the question, unless I find that the article probed a bit more. It’s not just that Knowshon takes himself out. It’s WHEN he takes himself out. Like clockwork, it’s when he and the offense are doing well, moving down the field. Granted, he’s running for big chunks of yardage, and probably IS tired. But go back & look to see if there’s a correlation between drives that stall or end completely and the times when Knowshon takes himself out. Clearly, there is. If the rotation’s a must, it would work better - just as quarterback rotations (shudder) do - for entire series, not right in the middle of a drive, interrupting the flow. Just a take.

By WHAT?!?!

Note to Jasper Sanks:

I still haven’t gotten over your fumble against Tech, but I agree with you 100% about what happens when Moreno comes out inside the 20. I think Bobo has noticed it also and that is why he is calling “trick plays” to score. Unfortunately, he hasn’t had a play work since the 5OT game in Auburn.

Let’s try this trick play this week. Southerland, Chapas, and Munzenmaier blocking for Samuel. Run it four times if you have to. If you don’t score, then WM and the defense will have a chance to stop KY’s offense starting from their own 1 instead of our 1. Just an old school thought about playing big boy football. Go Dawgs!!!

The bottom line is with a suspect offensive line the playbook as a whole can not be run. The bottom line is with a defensive line not getting pressure the corners are going to get fried. You can judge neither Bobo or WM with all the injuries and youth on both lines. UGA this year is a 7 series BMW with a 4 cylinder engine. The looks(the skill people) are here, the engine, the muscle( the lines) are not.

On KM, he sounds like a guy headed to the NFL that doesn’t want any wear and tear or injury to effect his money.

Chip——Knowshon Moreno’s comments about the UGA running back rotation are some of the strangest words that I have ever heard out of a competitive football player’s mouth … ever.

Great competitors and champions want the ball when the game is on the line, especially when their offense is in the red zone. No doubt King will be a great back for Georgia over the next 2 or 3 years, but I’m not sure how I would feel about my featured back (Moreno) wanting to take himself out of the game when the offense is in scoring position in order to maintain some “rotation” among the backs. Quarterbacks and running backs thrive on rhythm … what we used to call “getting in the groove.” I think the kids call it “being in the zone” now.

Among any number of unusual and noteworthy points, comments and observations made by various bloggers since Saturday, Moreno’s comments are the oddest damn thing I’ve heard in the aftermath of this year’s Florida-Georgia game. It makes me wonder if Knowshon really is the gamer I thought he was.

I wrote this last week and I’ll repeat it again. REGARDLESS of who wins the SEC, unless it’s ALABAMA, and they are undefeated, an SEC team WILL NOT play for the N.C. Bank It! Penn State and the winner of the Big 12 will be playing for the title. If you are an SEC fan make your plans to go to the SEC Championship game and then the Sugar Bowl against the winner of the ACC Conference. The PAC-10 Winner, USC, will play the at large game in Pasadena. This stuff is scripted! I demand a play off. My suggestion, stop going to bowl games until there’s a play off, then they will do something about the BCS. When BCS loses money you’ll see a play off system. Boycott BCS!

I think the point is valid about Moreno staying in the game more, especially when the Dogs are deep in the opponent’s territory. Most great backs that I have seen over many years want the ball more - not less - and have to be forced to come out and rest when it is obvious that he is fatigued. No knock on King or Samuels is intended, but Moreno is clearly the best back. A rotation “just for the sake of rotation” doesn’t make sense to me. No doubt that our play action passes are going to be more effective if the defense is concerned with Moreno’s explosive capability. BW

1st giving Moreno the power to pull himself out whenever he decides is a coaching mistake. I’m glad he has great confidence in Caleb ,but it’s obvious he’s not recgonizing the importance of his presense in the game at key moments in the game. The results have been pretty obvious. The drive which had been moving so well booooogs down!!!!!

2nd CWM defensive style lacks aggressiveness . He doesnt seem to adjust well either [no pass rush this yr]. His style of def is dependent on pressuring the QB. This yr no pressure from the front 4, and after 9 games no adjustments. I don’t ever have the feeling we’re going to dominate defensively. Sad to say but the only way CWM leaves is if he get a head coaching job somewhere. [GUESS WE’RE SH*T OUT OF LUCK ON THAT NOTE].

MarkA:

You had an interception called back because your defensive linman ripped the helmet of our lineman and, I might add, nearly (and illegally) tore his face off as well.

As for a couple of first down ball placements, the Gators were moving the ball with impunity against y’all, so what difference do you really think their reversal would have made?

Oh, and one more thing, MarkA, Coach Meyer pulled our starters out before our last touchdown.

If, as you assert, the penalties were the difference in the game, can you imagine what the score would have been if he’d continued to play the A squad? ! ! !

Folks, by the way, we are talking about college kids here. Why must we ridicule and judge these young kids? Who are we? Are we college coaches or pro coaches? These are kids performing at a high level of athletics, studying, and planning their future. If it weren’t for them or the coaches we wouldn’t have college football or for that fact this blog. One of the things that I love so much about CFB is that you never know who will win each season. Plus the lack of monetary gain. I try to respect these kids for their efforts and support them when they make mistakes. After all who has never made mistakes in life or in sports?! I would bet that CMR, his staff, and the players know a little more about what they’re doing than we do on here. If not we would be coaching somewhere or playing somewhere and not blogging on this site. The Dawgs have had too many injuries and still have some very young players out there. I trust CMR’s judgement and ability. Don’t give up on these college children. They haven’t.

Mr. Towers, maybe you’ll resolve this in your newspaper column, but does Moreno take himself out or not? The way it’s presented above, he doesn’t. His playing time is dependent on the coach’s rotation system and he doesn’t have any say in it. However, a lot of the comments make it seem like Moreno decides when he comes out. So, who determines how much playing time Moreno gets—-the coach or the player?

As much as I hate to admit it, Knowshon’s actions in the last few games make it appear that he is trying to avoid injury in the hopes that he will be a high draft choice. It would seem that his stock would drop with all these no-shows at crucial times. On that second and two at the 10-yard line early in the game, Caleb King apparently missed a block that resulted in Stafford being sacked. This is just one of many things that cost us momentum in the game. The field goal kicking didn’t help. Could we play one game against Fla where we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot early in the game? Maybe we did in 2007.

In your defense, the Dogs were beat up and tired after a tough game against a good LSU team in Baton Rouge.

Add to that their relative youth and inexperience due to a plethora of injuries suffered by UGA this year.

You do have a bye week next year before the UF game and that should be a source of considerable concern for the Gators.

G8R GRAD:

  1. Coach’s challenge, ruling on field upheld: On third down, gave UF 1st down. Happened before either team was moving the ball; prob would have resulted in punt. Kept alive drive that resulted in TD.

  2. UF 1st interception: Stopped UGA drive and resulted in TD.

  3. UF long pass to WR: UGA still in it until then. Resulted in TD.

Everyone misses calls. These 3 resulted in 3 TDs. #2 also negated a potential UGA score. All three were clearly blown, in UF’s favor, and either swung or killed momentum.

Not crying. Just facts.

Loved ‘em when Vince was coach.

Loved ‘em when Goff was coach.

Loved ‘em when Donnan was coach.

I still love ‘em, My DAWGS.

In spite of what most of you seem to think the sky is not falling. 10+ wins a season is nothing to be ashamed of. Yeah, you say, we should be winning championships every year because we have top 10 recruiting classes every year. Skewed logic.

Football is not a game about purely talent. It is a team game, moreso than any other sport. It takes 22 men working in harmony and machinelike to win. This year some of the parts of the machine didn’t perform as expected and some of the parts broke down. Some of the parts were just too new and had no time to be broken in.

Next year we will rebuild the machine. We will repair the broken parts. We will replace some of the parts with new parts and some of the parts will function better with wear. We will rebuild the machine yet again. Hopefully next year the sum of the parts will work better than this year.

Go DAWGS!!!

It’s real interesting that there are a lot of derogatory and critical comments made by people that have never wore the red and black on the field, nor have ever coached the game at the level of the SEC. However, we live in a free country, and that gives everyone the right to express what’s on their mind, whether it’s a valid point or not.

Have you ever considered that the people that generally criticize the most are the ones that do not have the ability to perform or be successful in the area that they are so critical of?

Maybe UGA will knock on those doors and see if they have the qualifications to be an offensive or defensive coordinator or head coach. Then again, maybe they won’t.

I would technically agree with Richt on continuity. However, consider the stats under van Gorder and stats since “Little Willie” took over. POINTS PER GAME speak volumes as to the true metal of “Little Willie” as a DC.

Unless “Little Willie” can affect a REAL change in his approach (or seemingly lack of one) on defense, we will continue to lose games to real teams. Further, Fulmer’s departure from TN after 17 years should be a real wake up call for ANY coach: None of them are greater than the program…none.

uga - you are correct. Mark Richt may be a “nice fella”, but he does not have what it takes to motivate and coach his players. He is recruiting well, but a team requires a special chemistry and strength of will to win at this level.

A team like UGA has this year is a gift, and they are capable of beating the mediocre teams on their skills alone. However, to beat the best teams in the country requires something special and the Dawgs don’t have it. There are no emotional leaders on this team. There are no players that seem to play for pride of their school.

Tebow has talked over and over again about representing the “Gator Nation” and his love of all things FL. Where is that guy on Georgia’s team? Where is the guy that runs up and down the sideline motivating his teammates? Where is the guy that really bleeds red and black like so many of the fans do? Fans are in the stands suffering the losses far more than these players are.

After this huge loss, they are in the weight room with the music on, laughing and encouraging each other - BIG DEAL!

Dawg fans hate Urban Meyer and Steve Spurrier because they have a winning edge to them that UGA coaches have not had in too many years. They unapologetically win big.

The Dawgs will be good under Mark Richt, but never great. With this team, we expected great.

Shoot, the dawgs are in line to finish 11-2 and go to a good bowl game. While this season has had it’s ups and downs all of us are reaaly wrong to put down our team the way many of us have. While it is VERY frustrating the way somethings have turned out it’s not like they’ve laid down and quit. They are really putting forth great effort, coaches and players. G8R Grad- Don’t come on here and talk about discipline… UGA’s off-field issues aren’t an 1/8th of what Florida’s are… “That’s how you maintain discipline on a team.” Give me a break you delusional sped… You are kind of backed into a corner when your DB pretty much attempts murder on a female. I guess that is typical for a UF grad though. What about Ronnie Wilson? Do you remember Ronnie Wilson? You know, the guy that spit in someone’s face and then chased them down the road, got out of his car, went to the trunk and pulled out an AK-47(that would be the ASSAULT RIFLE AK-47), and shot it in the air? Oh yeah, and then got arrested with pot 6 months later. You know, the guy that Urban Crier let back on the team? I guess his arrest this past weekend as well is maintaining discipline? The fact of the matter is that UF is a classless program, led by the shadiest grease-ball of a human being in Meyer and the only way you can make yourselves feel better about the situation is to try to compare the attempted murder that goes on down there in Gainesville to the drinking altercations that happen in Athens. I didn’t see no penalities!! I didn’t see the refs blow a ball spot review much to the announcers disbelief. I didn’t see an interception negated because of hands to the face penalty (2 plays later Fla. scoring) even though the defender was doing the same thing. I didn’t see the Fla. defender wrap his arm around our receiver to give himself the position to intercept the ball and take it to the 1, also much to the disbelief of the announcers at the no call. I didn’t see the Fla. receiver grab the defenders jersey and pull himself past the Ga defender for a TD. Even the announcers equated this to a “draft” in Nascar and again were baffled at the no call. Nope, I didn’t see none of that!!

First off I congratulate the Gators on winning the cocktail party.

I haven’t posted because I was too frustrated and wanted to get my thoughts together.

  1. Coach Richt needs to stop deluding himself, the officiating since the Florida game last year has been atrocious and getting this straightened out with the SEC should have been his first priority.
  2. He should of had these guys on the field Sunday morning doing stairs, windsprints and blood and guts for laying down in the second half this past Saturday. 90% of playing and being succesful in life as well as football is desire- that overwhelming desire to succeed no matter what and these guys starting with the coaches failed miserably this past Saturday.
  3. I would tell Knowshon Moreno that WINNERS want the ball in crucial situations- LOSERS take themselves out of the game.
  4. Stafford is a Junior and he is still throwing off his back foot, Coach Richt this on you for tolerating this and not getting this straightened out and if he won’t or can’t make the adjustment then you as the head coach have to put someone else in at QB.
  5. Coach Willie Martinez was not the problem Saturday but terrible decisions by Coach BoBo, Stafford, atrocious officiating and Moreno taking himself out of the game in crucial situations led to this debacle.

Lastly, Coach Richt you are at a crossroads you can either take this team to the next level or go the way of Phil Fulmer. It is your choice, but I hope you decide to take our Dawgs to the next level.

After losing the Ole Miss game (by one point) Tim Tebow vowed to play ahrder than any other palyer on the field, and he delivered (as have his teamates).

Since that game the Gators have racked up over 200 points on offense while allowing fewer than fifty on defense.

No one takes themselves out of the game.

No one contributes anything less than 100%

That’s discipline.

I think that Herschel took himself out one play against Notre Dame. He had a dislocated shoulder. Someone on the sideline popped it in for him, and he went right back on the field. I hope than no one ever mentions Moreno in the same breath with Walker again. It is a good thing that Wally Butts is dead. Wally would have sent Moreno back to the hood along with some other slackers and then chased UF off the field with the 20 players who remained.

That goes for assistant coaches as well. Unless the head coach gets fired up and/or fed up we will continue watching that cheese-snot Tebow dance around like the cheerleader he will always be. I’ve read nearly all the comments above, and still haven’t changed my mind about the dawgs. They still have attention deficit disorder. Just what is the ball girl putting in the water? Has a jinx begun with Munson’s retirement? Does UGA really have the intent and desire to be #1? After all, being 3rd runner up takes a LOT less effort. This is all a fun exercise for some folk, but nothing is gonna change till off season. The black uniforms will be burned, but the good guy will still finish way back there somewhere. By Not very good

November 5, 2008 5:22 PM | Link to this

Let’s face it guys, this team is not very good. I keep hearing everyone say we’re going to have a 10 win season, yes we very well might, but look at the bigger picture. Who have we beaten. An way overrated ASU team, a Caroina team that had yet to find it’s indentity(glad we don’t play them now), a LSU team with no offense(that we made look like the greatest show on earth). That leaves a couple small schools, TN, and Vandy. The conference is down as a whole this year, TN is not good, Auburn is not good. We’re very lucky for that, if not we could and probrably would be 8-4 this year.
I think there is something going on behind the scenes that’s not coming out. Not sure what that is, maybe something like all that talent Donnan had that one year and things fell apart. Someone made the comment of putting Cox and Samuel and King in more games. I agree, i believe the other two starting back there now and scared of getting hurt and just trying to make through the year to make there money. More power to them, but that comes down to coaching. I really can’t believe the KM can take himself out whenever he wants, what the hell is that. Last time I checked he’s there on a scholarship to play football, not to determine when he takes a breather after a couple of runs, let the HEADCOACH make that call. Just a frustrated fan who really hates seeing all this talent go down the drain, this type of talent only happens every so often and I really thought this would be the year.

I have been disappointed and concerned that Moreno takes himself out of the game after two or three plays. My first reaction was to question his conditioning, which would not be a good sign. Then his response above where he indicates he is thinking about a good rotation is BS. It should be the coach’s job to worry about the rotation. There must be more to this story than we are hearing because on the surface it sounds like the players are in charge rather than the coaches. I would be surprised if the other players see Moreno’s personal “rotation” as a good thing. I know I don’t!

THE problem with the players is while what they are saying may be true,(GA,didn’t get held to 120 yards of total offense, they had bacically as much as FLA, they ran up and down the field from 20-20.) THEy just became the key stone cops again like they have in many games they won this year, some of the games they won like Tenn and Vandy their comedy of errors kept those games reasonably close. THEy should have been much bigger markims of victory. So as long as the players believe they are not that bad or “Just young” there is really no need for them to feel like the sky is falling.

Yes I was watching and saw that your player had a handfull of Corvey’s facemask as well, plus on the prior play had taken a swing at Corvey which wasn’t called either. The calls against Georgia and the no calls against the Gators did have a tremendous effect on the outcome of this game and directly led to 35 of your points. Having said that I still think the Gators would have won because it was obvious they came ready to play, wanted it more and we didn’t.

Georgia, you might not win the SEC or a national title this year, but you’re still the undisputed national champion of excuse making.

If you take away those two halves you’d be undefeated right now? Yeah, and if Ole Miss doesn’t block an extra point the Gators would be undefeated now. Hell, every team might be undefeated right now if you use this logic. Genius.

And on top of the excuses, your players are still delusional and unwilling to admit they lost to the better team. They got smoked by 2 superior teams this year, and no amount of “bad officiating” would’ve changed the outcome.

That’s the difference…when teams like the Gators lose they work harder and get better. When the UGAly dogs lose they work hard to make up better excuses.

This is soooooo true!!!! Chip do we have any JYDs on defense? And why is the reclamation of their “swagger” dependant upon “making a statement against UK?” The D needs to play nasty, physical, FIRED UP FOOTBALL!!!! It is an incredible honor to wear that G on your chest and helmet. It’d be refreshing to see our Dawgs play like it. Who cares about where your opponents start, in terms of field position? Excuses make losers of men! Defend your goal line at all costs, DEFENSE! HUNKER DOWN!!

My $.02 cents…..

  • Give credit where credit’s due. Fla came to play. This game started with an intensity that I haven’t seen in a college game in a long, long time. Fla maintained. Unfortunately, Ga didn’t.

  • I ask the same questions as others. Why does Moreno take himself out just when it seems Ga is getting the running game established? Why does it seem that the “best arm in college football” can’t hit a receiver in stride? Why does Ga continue to commit stupid penalties that negate positive plays - at the least opportune time? Why do the Ga coaches try to get “cute” once or twice a game and call a stupid play that blows up in their faces?

  • Anybody else notice one thing the GA defense is missing this year is the big hitter. You know, someone that makes you feel sorry for the other guy, makes running backs put their head on a swivel, and makes recievers grow alligator arms.

  • One thing that has continued from last year is the missed tackles. Or, as my old high school coach used say, there’s a reason you’re wearing those damn shoulder pads…

Finally, yes, I think that games sometimes turn on one or two plays. The GA lineman who got called for the hand in the face (actually, he ripped the guys helmet off right in front of the referee, stupid) that reversed an interception and the stupid onside kick. The first allowed Fla to continue on to score and the second gave the ball to Fla on the 40 yd line, which they went on for the second score.

After that, the Dawgs never recovered.

Asher Allen spoke today on the topic of stopping an offense no matter where they start from. He said just look at what the Pittsburg Steelers did last week!!! There is no excuse to get blown out on defense!! Get it together DAWGS!!

What a load of HOGWASH Chip - did you buy any of it?

If anyone doubted Moreno was going to the next NFL Draft then you should have no doubts now. King can’t carry Moreno’s jock.

Samuel is a better back than King - why can I see it on tv but Bobo and Richt can’t on the field. If he doesn’t get major playing time he should transfer.

Richt continues to back Martinez - that’s what I was afraid of. That means if The Dawgs do not win (at least) The SEC East next season, Dawg Nation will be calling for his head. This is your chance to do the right (but understandably tough thing) and unload nonperformers - Bobo & Martinez.

And the players are taking all of this very well - right? Bull! Do you really believe the readers of this site buy that?

Coaching has wasted talent for two seasons. Enough!

Where is the LOUD MOUTH POSTER to this blog who GUARANTEED before Florida-Georgia game in JAX that the winner would NOT JUMP UP in the BCS Rankings ?

Poor Pete Carroll doesn’t understand it either how his team, winners 2 weeks in a row 59-0 and 56-0 over hapless Washington and hapless Washington State had to sit there and watch as they dropped from BCS Number 5 to BCS 7 (because the 2 teams who JUMPED HIM beat BCS Number 1 and BCS Number 6.)

While we are at it, where is the poster who came running in here announcing Pennsylvania State would JUMP Alabama too ?

Oh, that was Chipper Towers and other AJ-C “sports-writers.”

“Don’t be surprised to see Pennsylvania State jump Alabama,” it was written all over the AJ-C all week last week.

Excuse me.

Urban Meyer’s THUGS are at it again, I see.

Perhaps you recall SHOOTING AN ASSAULT RIFLE in a fight right after he was on the FLORIDA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP team.

Now, BACK ON THE TEAM Ronnie Wilson is at it again.

Urban Meyer has seen fit to just suspend him.

As a matter of fact, URBAN MEYER PUT RONNIE WILSON BACK ON SCHOLARSHIP with the crocodiles, who refuse to play the game anywhere but at the site of this year’s Gator Bowl yet again - but, UGA is less than manly to finally do something about NOT GETTING A SINGLE BREAK Saturday down there dropping us to Number 13 in the BCS with 3 games before our Bowl Game.

Urban Meyer refuses to discuss the status of Ronnie Wilson but Wilson has been identified by an impartial observer when he broke a woman’s arm this time among other charges following the fight at 3 a.m. at a bar, drunk, OUT OF CONTROL like Ronnie Wilson ALWAYS IS.

This fight was following the game at Arkansas.

Phillip Fulmer, FIRED from the vols’ team, has yet another DRUG USER who he had to give a 1-game suspension.

Starting Cornerback BRENT VISON, SOPHOMORE was cited for DRUGS in his possession, alcohol in an open container in his vehicle, driving without a license, driving without insurance and a host of other charges following his arrest at 3 a.m. just prior to Phillip Fulmer BEING RUN OUT OF TOWN ON A RAIL BY MIKE HAMILTON, embattled Athletics Director of the University of Tennessee at ObKnoxiousville.

Yeah BuLLdawg, nobody ever gets arrested in Athens.

Oh wait, they set the record for that this year too. So UGA is the national champion of excuse making and arrested players.

I don’t think Martinez is to blame. How come no one talks about conditioning? The dawgs cannot seem to play for four quarters. Besides the players who out for the season, a lot of players missed big chunks of Spring, Summer, and pre-season work. I also think that this is somewhat of a transitional year (not rebuilding). There is so much young talent, and sometimes that can cause tension in a team among the guys who feel they’ve earned their salt and expected playing time. A combination of those things leads to problems with leadership roles among the staff and players. I really wonder if there are some pecking order issues the team is having to work out.

One thing I am sure of is that they know a hell of lot more than we do about their team and what it takes to win. Richt is a great coach and will get his team to a National Championship.

For the morons out there who want someone new, remember what it was like between Dooley with Hershel and Richt. Remeber, even if you found someone better (and I don’t think there is), there would be transitional seasons of sucking.

So, we all got a little ticked about UF and Alabama. Let us get behid our team once more and support them.

Dawg fans it’s time to quit complaining and get ready for Kentucky, and an Auburn team that hasn’t upset anyone this year and usualy does, just hope it’s not us. Coaching changes are not likely to happen anytime soon,CMR is too loyal to his coaches and on the surface sees poor execution as a factor in the Fla. game not a coaching problem. Trust me, Don’t know who’s fault it was that we were not ready to play sat against the gators but WE WERE NOT. We were a step behind on every play, start to finish. Therefore we were whipped. Maybe our team and coaches will learn from it. All i can be certain of is that the Cats will be ready to play on saturday and we had better be also.

Right on Atl Gator, after his year last year, I would have taken Moreno at 75% over the majority of RB’s out there. “Rotation”????? Heisman type guys want the ball, they want to score the TD, like Tebow. Moreno is key to the offense as many above has stated. His presence in the game changes the defense and the way the defense attacks or doesn’t attack. Sounds like the makings of a Randy Moss type attitude. Or AI’s famous “practice rant”. Dammit Knoshown why did you have to go and say that. I do like Corvy’s attitude. I wouldn’t say that about Bama and UF though we lost those battles this year. You have to prove yourself from here on out. There are many, many programs out there that would kill for an 11 win season. For those guys coming back next year you have to make statements these next few games. I love my dawgs win or lose. Not a Tebow fan but his attitude after the Ole Miss loss shows what a competitor and leader he is. And for the love of God please beat Tech senseless.

Gene, thanks for that HW memory.

What about Knowshon’s fumble? What about Knowshon getting downed for a loss? I don’t understand why people expect King to be magic on the few plays he gets the ball but are willing to allow Knowshon some errors… could it be because Knowshon has enough playing time to establish a rhythm? Watch the start of the FL game - Moreno didn’t hit the ground running, he needed some time to hit a stride. Why is King expected to do it without hesitation? Why is one missed block in an article but not Moreno’s fumble??? I do not understand this discussion AT ALL.

Maybe if King had the same number of opportunities as Knowshon we could fairly compare numbers, but he is not given the chance to establish himself the way Knowshon is - if Knowshon were pulled out after his first runs against Florida his yards per carry would have been much lower, even negative.

You pathetic speed freak. Get off the meth and read a little before you pull the pr!ck out of your mouth and start talking.

Pete Carroll simply wants what most of the people on this blog do, a playoff system. He has said it repeatedly and for good reason. All any coach can do is win the games they play, the BCS computer ranked the suckeyes #5 and USC #10 when both have 1 loss and the suckeyes was to USC.

Carroll has supported a playoff for the same reasons most people do, it would eliminate the mythical championship.

Carroll is a class act and your University is luckey if Coach CMR has half the class he does.

Bulldawgs a pr!ck- why in the &%(# would Carroll want a playoff system?!?!?! He plays a jv schedule, doesn’t have to play a conference championship game, contends for the NC every year because they look great beating Washington St. 59-0 every week!!!! He’s 1 upset away every year of playing for a NC. Why the %&$$ would he want a playoff system?!?!?!

Problem here is that there have been 2 conflicting reports in as many days. In the article above Moreno explains that it is not a fatigue thing but a “keep the rotation going” thing. In an article posted today he explains that if he needs a breather and can not go 100% then he takes himself out to allow CK to come in. Sooooo which is it?? Either way, I’d rather have a 75% Moreno than other running back on our roster at 100%. The coaches should too.

Because he fields great teams every year and isn’t afraid of anyone. Here’s an excerpt: from the story in the Sacramento Bee.

Published: Thursday, Nov. 06, 2008 | Page

President-elect Barack Obama hit the hot button with his comments on “Monday Night Football.”…”I think it is about time that we had playoffs in college football,” he said. “I’m fed up with these computer rankings.”… In the days since Obama’s remarks, USC’s Pete Carroll, Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops and Texas Tech’s Mike Leach have called for a Bowl Subdivision playoff – and Leach’s team is No. 2 in the BCS…

Where are the SEC Coaches? All talk? Come on, if you want a playoff it’s time to put up or shut up, loudmouths.

The dawgs will lose to Auburn and Tech. and maybe to Kentucky. They don't have the fight in them to be tough. Gators played them like Bama. Smash mouth football and they took a whippin.

You think if Moreno can take himself out at will Joe Cox can just raise his hand and trot out on the field, pat Stafford on the but, and tell him to take a break I’ll take it from here.

Everyone needs to chill out about the loss to Florida and get over it. It is done and we’ll have to wait until next year to do anything about it!!! As far as getting on Richt, BoBo and Martinez yea things haven’t been going great this year but we stand a chance of going 11-2 with a bowl win and only losing to Florida and Alabama. Thats not a bad year for the injuries we have had. I live in the Clemson area and listened to the Clemson fans bash Tommy Bowden for the last 3 years and things only got worse and worse. As the fans lost confidence in him so goes the team and then it was all downhill from there. We need to step back and look at what these 3 men have done for Georgia football and be greatfull that everyone thought we should be a preseason number 1 even if our end of the year results don’t show it. And also get off Moreno and Stafford. This is the best QB and RB in NCAA Football. All they need is a healthy line (as every QB and RB need) and they will be back next year hopefully.
