UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

LSU fans see Bulldogs as ‘whiners’
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Rather than my usual Friday topic, which tends to be something like, “who do you think is going to win, by what score and why,” I decided this week to call my good buddy Glenn Guilbeau over in Baton Rouge and “interview” him about Saturday’s game between Georgia and LSU.
Guilbeau is one of the foremost authorities on LSU athletics. Well, football at least. He covered the Tigers for a long time for the Baton Rouge Morning Advocate and now does for Gannett News Service, which circulates his stories throughout its newspaper network. Nobody knows LSU football better and he’s a pretty funny guy to boot. So I figured I’d just hit him with some questions and get him to tell us all what he’s thinking.
Talking to the “opposing” beat writer is something a lot of bloggers do these days but it’s new to us. But if it’s a feature you like I’ll make it a regular thing. I know somebody well on all the SEC beats. So give me your feedback.
Without further adieu, let’s hear from Guilbeau:
(1) What would you say is the perception of the Georgia Bulldogs among LSU/Louisiana folks? Contenders or pretenders? Do they think the Bulldogs are overrated or underachieving?
Guilbeau: “Many LSU fans incorrectly see Georgia as whiners from the way the BCS ended up last year with LSU luckily getting into the national title game with two losses. I covered Georgia in the Sugar Bowl and all coach Mark Richt said was that there is no rule that states a team has to win its conference to play in the BCS title game. Until there is, non-league champions could make it. And there are scenarios in which a non-league champion would be a more worthy participant. For example, if a three- or four-loss West division champ upsets a one-loss East division champ in the SEC title game, and if the East division runner-up only has one loss from early in the season then it would be much higher ranked. The fans were also legitimately aggravated by Georgia president Michael Adams call for a playoff just as LSU was winning the national title. SEC commissioner Roy Kramer was very upset at that. Adams tends to put his foot in his mouth often. Other than that, LSU fans are wary of Georgia’s offense in light of how much the Tigers’ secondary and linebackers have struggled this season. LSU fans can’t really say Georgia is overrated since LSU is likely overrated. The Tigers do not have a win over a ranked team.
(2) Is this game a big concern for LSU or just a big event? Or neither? Do the Dogs have a prayer in fabled Tiger Stadium?
Guilbeau: “The Georgia game is a major concern, and because of that and the two teams’ rankings, this is a huge event. It will be one of the highest ranked pairings in Tiger Stadium in recent years. Georgia has a very good chance of winning with a quarterback like Stafford and his wealth of receivers. LSU can’t cover well.”
(3) What are some things Georgia folks making their first trip to Baton Rouge may need to know? Got some recommendations for places to go, places to eat, things to do, tailgating?
Guilbeau: “I would say head downtown. That’s where all the bail bondsmen are in case more Bulldogs get arrested Friday night. I would also recommend some of the animal shelters so Georgia could get a mascot that doesn’t attack Auburn players during games.” [Note: Guilbeau was covering Auburn when UGA V got after receiver Robert Baker].
(4) What has been your impression of the 2008 Tigers? Any chance they could repeat as national champs? SEC champs? West champs?
Guilbeau: “If LSU wins out, it could get back in the national title game, but this year’s team just does not look that good. There are too many holes - the secondary, linebackers, quarterback. If it doesn’t reach the title game, though, LSU chancellor Michael Martin may criticize the system and call for a playoff system to begin at once.”
(5) Was Les Miles ever really headed to Michigan? Is he beloved in Baton Rouge like the guy that coached there before him, ol What’s-His-Name? Is What’s-His-Name still beloved or reviled now?
Guilbeau: “Miles looked at Michigan and looked into what his salary and the salary of his coaches might be, but he never really considered it seriously. Had Michigan been smarter in its interest in Miles and had it realized that it has to pay people to come to Michigan, Michigan would have had a better shot at Miles. But Miles wasn’t going to go to Michigan if his assistants were going to have to take a pay cut. Michigan has an extremely high and unrealistic opinion of itself. The LSU job is a better job because of the talent and elite status Nick Saban left, and Miles wasn’t going to leave for equal or less money. One reason the story lasted so long was because Miles did not want to appear to be dissing his alma mater. He has a lot of friends there. He wanted to talk to Michigan. He also milked the interest somewhat in contract negotiations before the SEC title game, but that became moot. The raise Miles got from $2.2 million to $3.75 million was all bonus money based on the fact that he won the national title. He would have received the exact same raise had Michigan not been interested.
“By the way, Miles’ people and LSU’s people were hammering out Miles new contract in the week leading up to the SEC title game and came to an agreement that Friday night. There was urgency Friday night because Miles had said in a press conference Friday afternoon that he wanted to talk Michigan. When LSU officials heard that, they got nervous. They didn’t think Miles would leave, but they did fear Miles going to Ann Arbor or somewhere on an interview, because at that point anything can happen. So they came to an agreement Friday night. This is why Herbstreit’s report the next morning on GameDay and his subsequent statment that LSU “got proactive” after his report were completely false. It was done.
“Miles is very much loved by the fans here and a lot of the media, too. Even when he messes up, the apologist fans and the apologist media come out in droves. That coach, Nick Saban, is hated because fans realize how great he is and was and can’t quite accept that he’s now at Alabama and making the Tide a threat to LSU.
Interestingly, it’s four years after Saban left and there are a still a dozen of his signees on the team - key players like Tyson Jackson, Herman Johnson, Brett Helms, Kirston Pittman, Quinn Johnson, Marlon Favorite, Curtis Taylor and Harry Coleman, Tremaine Johnson, Charles Alexander and Brady Dalfrey. The fact that about 30 of Saban’s signees were on the national title team last season also irks LSU fans.”

First off I just gotta say GO DAWGS SICK EM WOOF WOOF WOOF. That just goes without saying. Next I gotta say the DAWGNATION will continue to whine as long as CWM doesn’t respect the gift of the blitz and CMR continues to tolerate this disrespect! DAWGS everywhere have good reason to whine! Next I do tip my cap to the Mad Capper and his Tigers. They were definitely the better team last year. Finally I must whine about the AJC’s coverage of our blessed DAWGS. We should have Know Your Dawgs posted EVERY DAY. There are alot of DAWGS out there that we deserve to know!

LSU: miles is overrated, as well our Coach Richt might be a by a tad. I think for the talent we have, we under perform IN THE BIG GAMES. I hate to say this, but we did catch Florida “flat” last year. I think Coach Richt gets an A in most phases of his program except for discipline and game management. We have 17-18 starters coming back next year plus the injured players. If #7 & #24 come back along with this group and we don’t win it all, i think a hard look at DC & OC is in order. We should beat LSU this week. Go DAWGS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chip,
This is a great idea. Please continue this mode of operation. I really enjoyed the Q&A.
I do believe that UGA and USC were the best two teams in America at the end of the season. And yes I would have loved to see GA play for a NC. However, if you do not win your conference, you do not deserve to play for the title.

UGA has a good chance to win this weekend if they can keep Stafford off the turf. Next week is another story…
As far as next year…forget about the talk of MS & KM coming back. With the change in the rule on rookie salaries taking effect in the 2010 draft it would cost them millions even if they got drafted higher by staying another year. Not just UGA but every school will have more RSo and Juniors coming out this year than ever before to cash in before the new limits kick in.

I agreee to a degree. We are being out recruited in our own back yard by these opposing teams cause our coaches think we are so good, or they are just plain dumb. Win your games stop melting down as coaches and players, recruit harder and get these guys in line.. Win then you don’t have to hang your marbles on another team to get where you want to be. All this hype and we still barely win SEC champ games or division. Play ball and shut up.

Great idea Chip, always interested in looking at the task at hand from a different pair of eye’s. I for one Agree with CMR winning the conference shouldn’t be required to play for NC. Some of the other conferences don’t even play a conference championship game. and they don’t have that extra game on their schedule to prepare for. I’m glad the SEC has a game to determine the champ, that way no mistakes about who that champ is.

As a lifelong Gator fan and Florida native I hope UGA took notice of the Gators whipping of LSU in the Swamp, the toughest place to play in Dixie. Having said that, I say Go DOGS!! Like most UF fans, we would give our right arm to have a program, facilities, campus, and tradition that UGA does. I love some Gators but UGA has always been the class of the SEC. It took UF over 60 years to win a SEC Championship but we’re trying to catch up and run with the SEC long-time leaders and our coaches might get us there some day.

Um, UGA fans are whiners. UGA fans seem to think they are entitled to be in the NC hunt without playing like a NC team on the field. If UGA beats LSU and Fla then we are deserving. However, after getting slobberknocked by Alabama, there really is no room for whining. Just look at Texas and Penn State, THAT is how you take care of business. THAT is what gets you ranked one and two. Sputtering around the field against Georgia Southern, Vanderbilt, Tennessee and South Carolina and getting spanked at home on national TV is what leads to a lack of respect. Respect has to be earned, UGA has not earned it yet.

LOL @ LSU fans calling ANYBODY a whiner. That takes some serious nerve. Even when they won the BCS in 2003 it wasn’t enough. They cried like babies about the AP for months. They’ve still got their panties in a wad over USC. Is that billboard still up in LA? What a joke.

LSU’s mythical national title last year was a total farce. Les Miles must have shoved a four leaf clover up his backside. You’ve probably got a better chance of getting struck by lighting than seeing the events that led to LSU’s BCS title game berth ever again. The first two loss champion ever. They didn’t even play the other Top 5 team in their own conference. There isn’t an asterik big enough to put by that joke of a “championship”.
With that said, I have alot of respect for LSU’s program and look forward to a hard fought game tomorrow. May the best team win and everybody stay healthy.

Les Miles is the BIGGEST WHINER of anyone…Pleading his case on ESPN last year to play in the NC..He beat a 4 loss team in the SEC Championship game and suddenly goes from #7 to #2. Everyone knows how HOT UGA was at the end of the season last year and deserved to be in that game. You gotta be kidding..UGA will win this weekend..LSU hasn’t beaten anyone this year and got beat by 30 in the Swamp…Again I said by 30. WOW! A lot of the times Guilbeau is La.’s version of Finebaum and likes to irk LSU fans. A good part of what he said is true but this LSU team is a little better than what he is saying.

Dawgs are dropping like flies, at this rate we will probably need to recruit some frat boys to fill in on the sidelines. With that said, LSU is a very sound football team, if they put it all together on Sat., we will have to play our best game to have a chance. If we sputter (like we have all season) and kick field goals, we are done!! Remember last time we played a big game against a dominant defensive and offensive line?? I do, we got whooped by Bammer, expect the same result unless OUR COACHES FINALLY START DOING SOME COACHING instead of the regular status quo. I’m sick and tired of looking like crap on national TV, let’s make a statement to the nation and whoop up on LSU in Death Valley, that will gain some respect back that we desperately need for the beauty pageant of the polls and BCS. GO DAWGS!!

Chip, Glenn seems like a straight shooter so thanks for the insights. I think it would be great if you made talking to other team’s beat writers a regular feature. I think Georgia’s playmakers win this one in a close, physical game that comes down to some key big plays by Knowshon, Green, Stafford and the Dawgs defense. I just hope we don’t come out so banged up that we have nothing left for Florida…. but one game at a time. Go Dawgs!

Funny how Tech fans root against us so passionately. I usually hope Tech wins their games. Why not? Sort of hard to hate a team that you dominate… . You asked for a reaction to a weekly interview with the opposition’s beat writer…well as for this ‘coona**’ (it’s a term of endearment, believe me) I thought he had started out pretty good - ‘many LSU fans ‘incorrectly’ see Georgia as whiners’ - then he proceeds to blast us as a bunch of whiners…then again that’s just like my Louisiana relatives. After all, whataya expect from somebody that sucks the brains out of mud-bug and thinks it’s cool.
As for Michael Adams, he can bash that guy all he wants and it won’t be nearly enough for me. I won’t let that guy’s continued presence at UGA diminish my love for the Dawgs, but I still won’t send any more of my money there so long as he is.
All Mark Richt was doing last year was lobbying for his team - after all, it worked for Urban Myer the year before, so why not try? No we didn’t deserve to be in the Championship game since we didn’t get into the SEC game, but if we had - after we had kicked them ‘Bye’yalls’ back to New Iberia - we’d have thrashed OSU and won it all.
So Chip, go ahead, we’ll need all the red-meat we can get to help get our ‘hate on’ - maybe not for Florida, but the rest of ‘em…including Alabama in the SEC, heh, heh, heh.

don’t forget the “revenge factor” in this game with LSU. everyone is always so fast to point out the endzone dance against florida and why they want to beat us so bad. well UGA feels the same way about LSU keeping them out of the title game last year. it’ll ge a good game, both teams have their backs against the wall, i think UGA will pull it out and win by 14-17 points.

We are in a rebuilding year, and, frankly barely a top 20 team. We beat Auburn, but they are really weak. I think Stafford and his two great receivers will have big days. Why all the talk of this great LSU defense? In their last 10 SEC games dating back to last year, they have given up an average of 29 points per game. Give Coach Martinez credit. What is with all you DAWGS apologizing on here. Screw that!! Altamaha I am particularly dissapointed in you. We as fans dont need a bail bondsman because we are the class of the SEC. The arrests we have had were a dissapointment. Wish they hadnt happend. But over half of them were college boy silliness that most of us would not have gotten a ticket for. The other half were serious and were dealt with accordingly. So I dont owe any Baton Rouge people any kind of apology.
And who said next week is a different story. We have the talent to run the table. We may not get it done but neither Fla or LSU are one bit better than us talent wise.
This LSU reporter threw down the gauntlet. So instead of backpeddaling how bout some of you grow a pair and lets go down there and give the Tigers something to whine about when they get left out of all the BCS bowls.

To gator the dog catcher, I appreciate your input. Take away the 51 by UF and it is still 27 per game. The least amount they have given up in that 10 game stretch is 14, 17 once, and 21 or more in the others.

A month? I know it will be hard not being able to read the blogs of a real SEC team. Whats wrong w/ Superman this year? Stuck in his phone booth w/ Jimmy Crier? Wearing jean shorts complementing each other on how they fit?
You know its funny, I don’t even know who UF plays or if they do? That is how concerned I am about them? You are awfully worried about us!

Gator Chump - was that your excuse for all four of your losses last year? Tebow could’ve been in an iron lung and you still shouldn’t have gotten waxed by Michigan the way you did. You embarrassed the SEC.

If Les Miles never was even interviewed by Michigan, how does Guilbeau know that Michigan wasn’t prepared to offer more money than LSU? He doesn’t. The real reason Miles stayed at LSU was because the Tigers moved up to #2 in the rankings. You don’t leave a program when you’re about to play for a national title. No coach would!

Georgia doesn’t dislike LSU. When a team loses its final home game (Arkansas<) beats Tennessee and jumps from 7 to 2 in the final poll— questions need to be asked. Why have apoll if the voters are just going to pick the BCS title teams out of a hat?

Also, Chip, I do like the idea of getting the perspective from other beat writers. The day after games, I routinely look up the local online paper of the team we just played to get their thoughts on the game. Reading both sides is a good way to formulate an honest assessment of the game and of Georgia’s strenghts / weaknesses.

CMR,
Actually, you continually EXCEED expectations year after year by any objective measure.
Every year your ranking at the End of the season is higher than your team’s predicted ranking at the START of the season. Take last year as an example… your team was ranked #12 to #16 prior to the season in just about every poll. You finished 2nd. Only a jealous tech fan would call that underachieving.
The only year you finished lower than your pre-season ranking was the year you finished 3rd by losing one whole game. Some polls had you 2nd and one even had you ranked #1 pre-season that year.
Don’t forget that in addition to beating tech every single year you have been at UGA, you have more wins than all the following programs since 2003:
Florida, Alabama, Auburn, TN, Penn State, Michigan, Florida State, Miami, and Nebraska in fact more wins than all but four other programs in D1 who edge you out by a game or 2.
Don’t let the jealous tech fans that would kill to win 13 of THEIR last 14 games get you down.

As an LSU fan I would like nothing more than to beat UGA this weekend, will it happen I don’t think so. They have to many holes at QB’S, DB’S and LB’S. UGA will win and I hope they beat the hell out of FLA the next week because we couldn’t do it. How many years has it been since a team won back to back NC? Will the Tigers get back to where they have been for the last 5 years, only time will tell. As we all know USC is the love child for ESPN. All you hear on ESPN is how great they are well if they are so good why haven’t they won the NC every year. Fla St was killing everyone, how many NC did they win? Bama was the GODS of football where have they been? Miami they were the top dog where have they been? As you can see its a cycle and what goes up must come down. LSU has been on a very nice ride for the last 5 years and now its time for another SEC team to take over. UGA will beat the crap out of Fla because they haven’t played a good team yet and I will be the first to say LSU is not a good team. I just hope we have a good game this weekend and its not a blow out.

I think this is going to be a good matchup. Both UGA and LSU have talent, and both are kind of rebounding after bad losses. LSU plays well in Baton Rouge and UGA plays well on the road. LSU is weak in their secondary and UGA is weak up front. I think the biggest difference will be that UGA has more talent on the offensive side of the ball whereas LSU is still trying to find an identity on offense. But UGA has a way of turning victory into defeat with penalties. This game will come down to who can make more plays on offense and who can execute better b/c neither of these teams have exhibited much of a killer instinct.

LOL Gator Chump - if you’re going to bring up Vandy from 2 years ago, then it would be much more germane to this conversation to focus on Ole Miss in your backyard. Apparently the swamp is about as intimidating as a carp pond. The question you should really ask yourself is what are you going to do when a once in a generation player like Tebow is gone? If you lose four games in a year where he wins the Heisman, what are you going to do when Newton is your full time starter? Get used to mediocrity.

Bottom line on this game is: Football is won in the trenches! Turnovers will kill you! So if the UGA’s wins if: 1. The OL can give Stafford time to exploit LSU’s weaknesses at LB & DB…This morning on WSB CMR said that Aaron White was going to play after all so I like to see some 2 TE sets then passes to White deep down the middle which open the passing game up even more! 2. The OL can open wholes for Moreno & King…Hopefully all game long but especially late even if it doesn’t happen early…we must try to run from the start but hopefully in the 4qtr we can run the clock out again with another long game sealing drive. 3. UGA Wins the turnover battle…One thing that’s tells you how much talent we have is that we don’t always win the turnover battle but still win games. Against teams with equal talent that usually backfires on you. 4. The D can continue its run stuffing ability & control the LSU running game 5. That will force LSU to throw the ball 6. Then we’ll need to put pressure on there QB’s 7. If #’s 4, 5 & 6 happen then we need to HOLD onto the picks!
8. Then make them PAY for there turnovers with TD’S! LOL ok say all that happens & we blow them out (highly unlikely) that would actually give us less “style points” because LSU would have played two ranked teams & got blown out both times…Just proves the BCS is BS… I hate Adams (so much so we will not give to the school itself until he’s gone!) but he’s right on that one thing…We need a playoff system!!!

By the way, if you guys can’t beat LSU, you really do suck. LSU is soft as doggy doo, and don’t really have any wins to speak of this year. Don’t give me Auburn, either. We saw how they imposed their SEC might on a hapless West VA last night. Yeah, right.

I love how all of the bees and gaytors get on this blog and whine away while calling Georgia fans whiners. Please. And are Georgia fans supposed to read the insanity spouted by said bees and gaytors and say, “Oh, that’s right! They really are the enlightened ones…Now I’m a fan of one of those teams!” Uh, NO!!! Georgia fans love their Dawgs, just like the bees love their bees and whined about not being in the polls when they hadn’t beaten anybody either. So, that being said, all fans of all teams can be considered whiners at some point, so can it. Go, DAWGS!!!

Do you actually think that SC was one of the best teams in the country last year. Please, tell us why!
For your information, SC beat exactly one team ranked in the Final USA/Coaches Top-Twenty, #13 AZ St during the regular season. AZ St. was annilated by the Big 12, #4 team (Texzs) in their Bowl game.
Their OOC games consisted of Idaho, ND, & Nebraska: combined record 9-27. They played 8 teams with LOSING RECORDS and won only 7 of those. Sweet schedule.
They beat only two teams with winning records during the regular season (AZ St. & OR St.) and lost to a 46 point underdog (Stanford) and Oregon.
LSU meanwhile, beat #9 V. Tech, #12 Tennessee, #14 AU, & #16 FL during the regular season and #4 Ohio State in our Bowl.
Your record (GA) was nowhere near as impressive, as ours. Not to mention that you didn’t even win your Division. Even Auburn (2004) didn’t complain as much as you guys…an they had a legitimate gripe!
Please, tell us how GA & SC were the best teams in the U.S. at the end of the season? None of the polls or any of the computers agree with you. Maybe, just maybe, you might be a little biased?
Good luck, Saturday in BR!

The days of Vince are long gone so is #34. If only we would have played the first half like we did the second in the Bama game-only if 10 of our players would not be on “Athens most Wanted” only if our coach could grow a pair- Only if we could have a game without 10 flags- One thing about the Dawgs- The best damn “ONLY” team in the country!!!

Clemson, Miami, Georgia Tech (ouch!), Alabama, FSU, Florida, and LSU. This is what gets in the history books. Those Larry Munson/Hershel Walker tapes are getting pretty old.

LSU has whined ever since USC took the 2003 AP Title. After an early season loss they went on to win 35 in a row, undefeated in 2004 (NC) and the 2005 regular season. That’s proof they deserved it, not the paper tigers.

Georgia doesn’t dislike LSU. When a team loses its final home game (Arkansas<) beats Tennessee and jumps from 7 to 2 in the final poll— questions need to be asked. Why have a poll if the voters are just going to pick the BCS title teams out of a hat?

Another way of looking at LSU fans attitude about last season’s BCS selection is ”defensive”.I blog on the Rivals national board and they’re accutely aware of the perception they were lucky to get a shot.
What I see is their fans defending the title as legitimate from fans of many different schools who see it as needing an asterisk, not just UGA’s.

Two things:
(1) My roommate at UGA went to the game at LSU about 10 years ago when they were ranked around 5 and we were 20th or so. We stunned the home crowd by winning in Tiger Stadium at night which was supposedly impossible to do. When my roommate got back to his car which was sporting a “G” flag, he saw that a nice big concrete block had been thrown through the windshield of his car.
(2) While we’re on the subject, the most redneck sounding players I’ve ever heard of were both on Mississippi State at the same time - Pig Prather and Porkchop Womack.

When are we going to quit refering to CMR “road record” as 27-4 while leaving out the UGA/FL game? With a 50-50 split of tix, Jax is as much as an away game for us as it is FL. Time to be realistic; the real “road record” is 29-9 which is still pretty good. By the way, ever since CMR has been here (and he has done very well) we just seem to lack what every other SEC team has; passion from their coaching staff. His demeanor on the sideline, at press conferences, etc. gives off an air so casual that it is as if he is simply biding his time at UGA untik something better comes along. Randy Shannon is on the ropes at UM and Jimbo Fisher at FSU does not seem to be the answer FSU fans are looking for. I remember watching the FSU/OK NC game the last year CMR was at FSU. I forget the score but it was something like 35-2 OK. The camera shots of CMR in the booth calling the plays showed him with that same emotionless look on his face. I am afraid we hired a “very nice guy” coach, but I don’t think he is the answer overall. Does he know something about coaching changes at other schools we don’t? Just being realistic.

Hey LSU4EVER WHINER…. It looks like you only want to hear the facts. Fact- UGA has not won a NC since 1980. Fact-LSU has WON 2 since 1980. Fact- When players are deciding on which college they should go to they look for the school that has a great chance on winning the NC. Just ask the two starting LB’s for LSU they are both from GA and both have RINGS. Ok before you start typing you are going to say UGA didn’t want them well maybe that just tells you that CMR doesn’t know what to look for because like I said they both have rings. Oh and the two that are coming to LSU next yearfrom Ga tell CMR thanks for not wanting them either.

As far as last year, and every year there will be several Teams who may deserve to be in the NC game, until there is a playoff, some will get left out. And remember another thing whoever wins Saturday only one team will be happy in the end. Tha NC is the only thing that matters.

Glenn is so out of touch he hasn’t yet figured out that Roy Kramer isn’t the SEC Commissioner. Mike Slive is and has been since 2002.
And as for his audacity to state that LSU fans are “irked” that last year’s National Championship was won with Nick Saban’s recruits I would respectfully suggest that Glenn allow actual fans to express their feelings rather than taking his guess and ascribing to an enitre fan base.
I’m one LSU fan that thinks Nick Saban did a great job at LSU and that he’s a heck of coach. And I love the fact that Les Miles coached Nick’s signees to a national championship. Irked? I was giddy to collect another title.

But tell me, did you select Guilbeau because you knew you would get a lot of negative quotes? Guilbeau is totally negative about LSU and has no LSU fan support in Baton Rouge or elsewhere. Why not Rabalais or the writer for the New Orleans Oicayune? They are more LSU beat writers than Guilbeau and give an honest answer good or bad. Guilbeau sprays a few facts in with a lot of negative opinions of his own to make all the material seem factual.
Guilbeau, as you can tell from some of his staements about Saban is a Saban worshipper. If that is what you want, well you suceeded in getting it.

I thought they were embarassed the last two years as most people did. But for the record I don’t think LSU earned the shot either.
Now USC put a big loss on them in September, but since then they have won and looked good doing it.
They have worked their way back into picture, and this weekend I think they will hang a loss on Penn State.
That will mean their only loss was to then #1 and still top 5 USC and they have impressive wins against ranked teams. They will jump up in the polls. Don’t count them out.

The French are NOT fighters and we (USA) had to come and bail their placid arses out because they could NOT fight during WWII. The French are just a bunch of pvssies. To hayl with the French!! To hail with LSU!!!!

Tigerman—What a short memory you have!! I thought UGA beat you guys in 04 and 05, with our little sissy coach.
Greggo—UGA has only played the mighty osu suckeyes once and beat them in the Outback Bowl. The shameful thing about that game is we beat them with Ray Goff as coach. How humiliating!!
I have been to Tiger Stadium on Saturday night and it is a special place. I always thought the fans were special too. But that was long ago and things have changed. Too bad all you want to do now is call the other team names instead of pulling for your team. Good luck Sat and I hope both teams play up to their potential.

Dear UGA Fans:
We,Gators, are sure of beating you guys next weekend. In fact, we have no doubt and it has nothing to do with “revenge” or last year. We just believe that we are that good.
However, if you guys beat us (and if you beat LSU already), hats off to you guys. But then, this is wishful thinking for dawg fans.
Go Gators!

To my fellow Dawgs,
I keep telling you to calm down and to not worry but it seems to be falling on deaf ears. The Dawgs will be fine as even with all of these injuries they have steadily improved. I know we have left points on the field all season but we have dominated on the line of scrimmage in every game but Alabama and they held their own in the second half when we cut down on the mental lapses. IMHO this team is going to beat LSU this Saturday and a lot of the Haters will still be on this blog talking their trash and trying to inflame things. So don’t worry about things you have no control over and remember to pull for the Dawgs.
Go Dawgs

WE ARE USC,
All I can tell you is that THE Ohio State Buckeyes are a lot better today than when we played you in week 3. We will give Penn State all they can handle tonight I promise you that. It’s good to see you on this, and some of the other SEC blogs. These people down here have no sense of real college football tradition like our schools share. I think most of them think Uncle Remus invented it 30 years ago or something. LOL. Oh and many on this particular blog (Georgia) are very stereotypically accurate if you know what I mean. LOLOLOLOL.

Hmm. BuckGator, perhaps someone has responded to your post. Currently, I don’t have time to read all.
Indeed, the University of Georgia has a great campus, a storied program, great facilities, and traditions.
But, I must question your statement “always been the class of the SEC.” Perhaps, youth is being betrayed by that statement. The facts say DIXIE’S FOOTBALL PRIDE, ALABAMA’S CRIMSON TIDE is THE CLASS of the SEC. 12 National Championships and 21 SEC Championships. How many does Georgia and Florida combined have?

LSU has unbelievably high, unrealistic expectation of themselves? Please, i almost spit my drink out of my mouth when I read that post. It’s the other way around and no matter how well UGA does this year, LSU is still the only team in the entire country to have two of those nice Waterford crystal footballs. Catch us if you can! As for UGA and whining, it’s never considered whining by the people who are doing it. LSU was in almost the same situation the year before only we had the Rose Bowl invitation on the condition that USC won their final game but they didn’t so we disappointedly went to the Sugar Bowl, beat the pants off a team that thinks they are God’s gift to football - Notre Dame - and we celebrated our huge win. We didn’t continue to whine througout the bowl games and until the next season started and that’s the headline on this blog - UGA and their whining - nothing more, nothing less. Insults with nothing of substance in the post given are the result of someone with nothing useful to say and probably sokmeone who has already had too much to drink. Screw LSU and all their fans? The whining continues! As a conference, we know we’re (the S.E.C.)the best and LSU pulled for Florida when we thought we should have been in the S.E.C. Championship game 2 years ago because we beat Arkansas but we didn’t play in that game so we had the hopes of mplaying in the rose Bowl and got shot down by USC. So we sucked it up and beat the team that was good 40 years ago and at least had a reputation of goodness in the past where Hawaii had never been a real contender for a team of any substance, no matter what they think. We disappointedly played ND in the Sugar Bowl and beat them badly as UGA beat Hawaii last year. At the end of the season, with Florida winning the BCS NC game, LSU was spoken of as the best team in the S.E.C. at that time. We think we should have played Florida in the S.E.C. Championship that year and gone on to play Ohio State for the BCS NC. That didn’t happen and we had that Rose Bowl invitation contingent on USC’s loss and had our moment of disappointment and moved on to Notre Dame and pulled for Florida to beat Ohio State. Georgia fans didn’t do the same and the few that did weren’t as vocal as the fans that whined incessantly about it. That was very telling of many of UGA fans character. True conference loyalists would have pulled for their conference and I’m sure many UGA fans did. Until the past few years, I’ve never heard such pathetic comments about LSU and their fans and I lived in Georgia from 1986-2000 and graduated from a university in Georgia. My 22 year old son born in Georgia is more mature than many posters on this blog. I lived comfortably amongst UGA fans and we had good-natured banter but nothing degrading. THAT has no place in the S.E.C. (unless you’re talking Auburn or Bama maybe…lol) UGA looked good at the end of last season but certainly isn’t playing as well this year and neither is LSU. We haven’t even played all of our games yet due to Gustav. We have to play on our off week so, as during the year before last, we will have played more games in a row than others which is tiring but that’s the way it goes. By the way, in the game today, did you notice a few things like the very noticable face mask that didn’t get called against UGA? That’s very normal and much too common for LSU. If you watched LSU play SC last weekend, you know SC got a TD that was so obviously NOT a TD and was actually reviewed and it stood as a TD. The ball didn’t get close to the plane of the goal line but the player’s helmet did so I guess the officials, in their usual bias, thought it should be a TD for SC. I guess some of you don’t care about fairness - winning at any cost is just fine unless the unfaurness is against UGA. The S.E.C. needs to get their officials in line as other conferences do because we have too many game changing penalties. LSU was the most penalized team in the country last year yet won the BCS NC game. And yes, you know if the situation was reversed and you wonthe S.E.C. Championship and jumped as many spots as LSU did, you’d have thought it was earned by UGA and saw nothing wrong with it. Many of you just refuse to admit it. And to the poster who commented on our drunkness and politics - Sonny Purdue praying for rain didn’t go across well with many folks in Georgia and he’s had plenty of critics and made Georgia look idiotic at timnes. Do Cynthia McKinney and Bob Barr ring a bell? We don’t even need to go there…lol Julian Bond was busted for cocaine. Newt Gingrich blasts another politician for adultery and then gets served with divorce papers because he’s doing it himself. And do we even need to mention his comments that children on food stamps should be in orphanages? The man that murdered my 16 year old son in 1992 was paroled in Georgia after serving 10 years of a life sentence when he had pending charges in Cobb County for shooting at 2 men at the time he shot my son. My son knew he was molesting his 16 year old step-daughter which is the only reason we can think of for the murder but we’ll never really know. The murderer was found guilty of felony murder and even though he never admitted any remorse, he was paroled after only TEN years! So don’t talk about Louisiana politics when yours is dirty as well. The King family can’t get it’s crap together and UGA has had 10 arrests in 10 months, many alcohol related. I lived in a rural area of Georgia and my husband showed me plenty of old stills in the woods and I knew plenty of people that made their own moonshine but it was too nasty for my taste. We also don’t have a football game dubbed “the cocktail party” that has to be played at a neutral field because of past disgraceful conduct of UGA and Florida fans. We have never had a city that for years was consistently alternating with Washington D.C. as the murder capital of the nation. I could go on but I think I’ve given enough examples. Don’t throw insults when your own hands are just as dirty. GEAUX TIGERS!

Some of you UGA fans out there have a tendency to not-so-gracefully rub a win in the opposing team’s faces. As an LSU fan, I can say that even my husband(who is a die hard UGA fan)can’t seem to contain himself. It is great that UGA won a game against LSU, but do you always have to brag so much? I realize that it’s all part of football, but what exactly are you looking for? A brownie? A medal? Yay…UGA won. Let’s move on now and focus on something else. Like are you gonna fire your coach next year since he can’t seem to pull it together? Anyway, I will congratulate all of you UGA fans for a good game and a good win. GEAUX TIGERS!!!
