UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

What would you ask the Bulldogs?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
We media types will meet with coach Mark Richt and a half-dozen or so players later today for the Bulldogs’ weekly press conference. Richt will tell us everything that is great about LSU and the players will do their absolute best to answer our questions without telling us anything of substance, revealing strategy or providing the opponent anything that could be deemed bulletin-board material. It’s a delicate dance we perform each and every Tuesday.
But here’s what I want to know today: What do you want to know? What questions would you like to see Tim and I pose at today’s gathering?
I’m not promising we’ll ask it. Keep in my mind, we have our own agendas. We have stories already in the works for which we need to get specific answers. But this time of year there are so many small subplots that they start to get jumbled up without any clear hierarchy as to how important they might be to you, the reader. So if they’re legit questions, I’ll ask them.
Here’s just a few for-instances to start you thinking:
(1) At one point we thought we might see Knowshon Moreno return punts, if not all the time, at least fairly regularly. As it turns out we saw him return just one 30-yarder against South Carolina in Game Three. Since then? Nothing.
(2) Meanwhile, we’ve seen many other players return punts. There was that one by Reshad Jones, which was pretty good. There were several by Asher Allen, then he went away. Now we’re pretty much down to third-string quarterback Logan Gray, who appears to be the close-to-your-own-end-zone, decision-maker guy, and Prince Miller, who seems to be the we-need-a-big-return guy. But then it was Miller that fair-caught one at the 5 and let one go at midfield that bounced another 20 yards against Vandy. And Gray, well, all he does is fair catch. Anybody else a little puzzled by that?
(3) Not to get too far away from Moreno (are you listening Bobo?), was it only us media types that were a little perplexed by Moreno’s absence on some key downs late in the Vandy game? I mean, I understand Caleb King has ability and the need to pace and to not overtax such a special player at such a physically-demanding position. Then again, isn’t that sort of what Moreno’s here for, to make big plays at big times in big games? But maybe Georgia’s getting it just right. What do you think?
(4) Am I the only one who kind of feels bad for CB Bryan Evans? He was beaten twice for touchdowns against the Commodores and has been the victim more than a few times this season. Oddly enough, he’s one of the team’s fastest players. He just can’t seem to find the ball and get in the right place. He was requested for interviews after Saturday’s game and Monday’s practice but hasn’t come in to talk. Can’t say I blame him. Looks like sophomore Vance Cuff’s going to get more minutes at that spot. It’s a tough position.
(5) I wonder if Blair Walsh just got up on the wrong side of the bed last Saturday or what. Everybody has a bad day but I didn’t see him missing back-to-back close ones. You’d like his confidence to be sky-high going into Tiger Stadium. Billy Bennett, a very confident kicker, had a bad day last time the Dogs were there.
Meanwhile, here’s some links to click:
Tim Stephens of the Orlando Sentinel identifies an interesting trend in college basketball that differs greatly from football. Some big-time basketball prospects are starting to snub major-conference schools to make a big splash at Little U. You don’t see that at all in football… .
I didn’t even realize it was a rampant rumor but apparently it was going around that Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville was unwell. Charles Goldberg of the Birmingham News writes that Tuberville blasted any notion he was about to quit coaching… .
Want an early scare before Halloween? Just check out some of Chris DuFresne’s possible BCS scenarios. Scary stuff… .
I didn’t have time to interview young Mr. Cuff after practice Monday night but here’s a nice little story on him prepared by TotalUGA.com… .
Here’s your weekly report from Jim From Duluth on the Anti-Orange webpage summarizing Richt’s radio call-in show. Thanks kindly, Jim… .
It is quite interesting that Georgia apparently is going to travel to Baton Rouge on smaller charter planes out of Athens-Ben Epps Airport this weekend in an effort to cut down on travel time. The Bulldogs normally bus to Hartsfield-Jackson before flying out to away games.

Chip,
Please ask Coach Richt about the lack of production on the Special Teams, specifically Kickoff return.
Also, the Defense not only has no speed rush from the end position, it has no bull or power rush; you must have one or the other or both.
The only rush we get from the D is inside from Atkins and Irvin or LB blitzes. And the only rush from the end is corner blitzes.
Ask Bobo if he will keep our best player personel groups in at crucial times for LSU and FL. I have no problems with them allowing Moreno to get rest the last two games when we were somewhat in control; it is a long season.

I would ask Bobo why we don’t run more crossing patterns in the pass offense. We ran a few in the UT game which worked great. Crossing patterns would work great I think against LSU D.
I wouls ask when are we goingt o run a reverse out of the quick toss to KM. We hve run that play 100 times this year, with no reverse.
I see we have gotten away from the slip screen. Not the wide loft screen, but the screen right past the line where MS flings it side arm. Seems that would work good against what is going to be a super aggressive Defensive line.
Again though I am not a coach and for the most part have no idea what I’m talking about, but I would at least ask.
This game is going to be wild. This si one of those “test your man hood” games. LSU is tough as nails on defense. It;s going to be fun to watch!

Chip with LSU and Fla, both have probally the fastest return men in the nation, will we kick to them or opt to short kick and kick to the sidelines to avoid them? Chip, my question is what is CMR doing about the penalty situation? i know the team has cut them down, but still to many times they’ve kept teams on the field w/ a penalty when they should have been in a punting or field goal situation instead.
Also for Bobo, why not have Stafford run more? they had they great play against, i want to say, usc were Stafford ran for a good 40yrds and last yr the 60 yrd run against tech. To me, it seems you get so many teams following Moreno or King, that Stafford has a wide open lane to pick up some extra yrds.

Vandy had the best return man in the SEC, by some folks’ account. And we did well against #17, so I don’t think we have any worries there. On the coin toss, a great question would be: Do we plan on taking the ball 1st, if we win it again? Making a statement 1st is critical in big away games.

Top 5 Concerns About the Dawgs:
What on earth will we do if another O-lineman goes down? I think we’ll be okay there if nobody else gets injured, but that’s a big if. I mean really, what the hell will Richt do? I hope he’s got a plan.
Why does our pass defense suck? There is no way around it. They flat out suck. Look at the stats. Thank god there aren’t any great passing teams in this league or we’d be screwed.
When will our defensive ends stop simply taking up space and start producing? These guys have been an absolute non-factor and even started getting pushed backwards against Vandy in run situations. If I were the other team I would run right at them. Maybe we should pull and LSU and put some defensive tackles there. It can’t hurt.
Why are special teams solid but mostly unspectacular? There have been no big plays in that department except for the meaningless punt return against Bama. That’s it.
What is with the offensive miscues? It seems to me that in the past few games there have been an unusual number of busted plays, a couple of which resulted in interceptions. We are too deep in to the season for that.
I’m no negative nelly and I think we are doing alot of good things too, but any fan worth his salt has concerns about his team. Those are mine.

I’d love to ask Richt about our TE’s. In the past, we utilized the TE ALOT more in the passing game than in recent games - in fact, some have referred to UGA as “Tight End U”. Did the injury to Chandler cause us to abandon the TE in the passing game, or was it the emergence of AJ Green? Or have the opposing defenses taken that option away? Thanks!

We need to know how we will combat the lack of presence from our DE’s. There’s no push on the pass rush and Vandy seemed to do a pretty good job of breaking contain around the edges against our ends. Needless to say UF and LSU have a different caliber athlete than vandy. Both on the OL and RB’s.
We will not win either game without rattling the freshmen QB at LSU or equallying/surpassing the sack total we had against Tebow last year.
I’d think some of LB’s built like Marcus Howard could get a rush from DE.
Is this a focal point for the coaches. JB

Chip: Please ask CMR and coach bobo why we don”t use a fullhouse backfield inside the 5 yd. line. Atleast the ball carrier has a lead blocker to hit the linebacker first. You can still pass out of the formation. Also why don’t we use Moreno and King in the backfield at the same time. Defense then has to play both as ball carrier.

Chip, I agree with the chorus of “why logan gray” questions. He’s no threat to take it to the house….
My two questions:
Can Demiko Goodman return Kick-offs? He’s the fastest guy on the team and obviously has good enough hands to be WR. I keep asking and no one can give a good answer? It’s not like he’s an integral part of our Offense and if he gets hurt, we’re screwed…
What’s up with our Punt Rush? If we pin our ears back and send those 8 or 10 guys hard after the punter, their blockers will have to stay in and block longer…giving our punt return guy room to run. Remember the lanes Damian Gary had to run in during the early 2000’s? That’s because we were a threat to block and the punt team kept people in to block. Now, we “try” to hold them at the line but it ends up giving 5 or 6 a direct path to our return guy…making 10 yards returns tough.
As to the Knowshon coming out question. They’ve pointed out that Knowshon calls his own number…both to come out and go in. So, late in the Vandy game, you could see Knowshon calling himself out and Caleb running in. Maybe it’s a “Conditioning” issue? He does give 110% each time….???

Chip, I would like you to ask Coach Richt about running the ball more inside the 10 yardline. Most teams that have trouble inside the 10 is because they can’t run, happens to spread offenses all the time. With the return of Southerland, the emergence of Chapas, and a tailback like Moreno we should be able to pound teams inside the 10 yard line and drastically increase our TD ratio inside the 10. Lately we have been doing a lot of screens and fades which haven’t worked. If you going to win a championship you got to be able to man up and take it to teams when close to the goaline.

Related to the Bryan Evans situation… I know Cuff is going to get more of the reps in place of Evans but I’m wondering how big of a role Brandon Boykin might play. I’ve heard great things about the kid, but he is young and we are playing in very hostile territory. How close is he to being ready to play regularly in the SEC? Is it just a matter of the coaches trusting him more?

What can we do with the Turnover Margin. We are 58th in the Nation in this category. You would think that CWM would bring a little more pressure this weekend with LSU and its QB play. Having Caleb King in at the start of the long drive we had in the 4th qtr against Vandy is unexcusable. That is the kind of decision that gets coaches fired and ruins promising young players careers. What if he fumbles; and we lose? All anyone would ask is WHY WHY WHY; that is just bone headed. Thankfully it didn’t hurt us but if we keep pressing our luck it will. I can’t even guess a reason; Knowshon hadn’t been on the field for 10+ minutes prior to that posession.

My main question is why doesn’t knowshon get the ball more and why oh why do we throw it deep every other 1st down when we have a running back averaging over 6 yards a carry. If you look at other great teams they use their stars as much as possible. We baby ours. We need to just turn the dawgs loose and let em pound on some teams. When we started the Florida game last year we gave to ball Knowshon 9 straight time in the first drive. Guess what happened - we ate a bunch of clock and got the forst score. All while hitting the opposing Defense in the mouth and tiring them out. If we gave knowshon the ball 30-35 times a game from here on out we would be really tough to stop. Also logan gray should just sit on the bench. Let knowshon or asher return punts. Or even Rashad jones. We need to use the weapons we have better. Bobo likes to throw the ball wayyyy too much.

Another pass defense related question - How much of a factor does our inability to put pressure on the QB have with our poor pass defense? Everyone points to Bryan Evans (and they are probably right to a certain extent), but when the quarterback has time to survey the field and plant his feet, it can be difficult for even good corners to maintain coverage.

i would answer it is because our defense cannot catch the ball. we dropped about 6 interceptions against Tennesee and Vandy alone. the opportunities have been there, we have simply not executed.

I have questions for you and CMR, Chip. First, do we lead the SEC in facing 2nd & ten situations? Maybe it’s just me, but it seems that we open a lot of games and important drives with long passes on first down that fall incomplete, forcing us into 2nd and long situations that often turn into third and longs. A lot of times these drives are the very ones where we need to hold the ball.
My follow-up question is related to how it seems that our playcalling often makes it difficult to get into a rhythm offensively. The best drives of the year have been in the fourth quarter against Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Granted, their defenses were tired, but I’d been waiting for that all year. Why, when something’s working (as in Knowshon), do we feel that we need to throw in something else? Sometimes it seems that our general philosophy is to rely on flawless execution and finesse (where it almost seems like we’re out-thinking ourselves), rather than going out and trying to dominate the opponent.
Finally, do we not have the personnel on defense to defend receivers, or do we not make the necessary adjustments? There have been multiple games – against South Carolina with our linebackers covering their tight end, against Alabama with their short passes, and against Vandy with their receivers on Evans – where it’s seemed that the offense has repeatedly exploited a weakness throughout the game. I’ll admit that I’m just a layperson; I don’t watch game film, and I don’t see what the coaches see or prepare for. But it certainly seems for observers watching the game that we either don’t make adjustments (leaving the same coverage in), or that we just don’t have the personnel.

I want to know why we are not being as aggressive on offense as we were last year. Bobo seems to be softening up and not taking chances, but taking 3 points instead. You can’t win games against LSU or Florida by kicking field goals when its 4th and 1 inside the red zone. Bobo was also quoted in an article saying he is okay with 3 points.

Why does Stafford wait until the play clock reaches 1 second before the ball is snapped? Is this a concious decision to shorten the game? Or is anyone even aware that this is occuring?
It is painfully obvious that Martinez’s four man rush is not going to work in the next 2 weeks. Against lesser teams this really hasn’t been a problem, but against LSU and Florida it will be. Turnovers must be forced and it will not be enough to just keep the play in front of the defenders and hope for a mistake by the opponent. Not only does this typically result in consistantly poor field position but keeps the defense on the field and often TDs when the defense can’t hold inside the 20 every time.

At times we have run the screen play with much success and other times it has been a disaster. Do we have a shuttle pass in our bag of plays? With Knowshons speed getting him is space seems to be very adventageous to our sucess. Also, most who have seen Georgia play have noticed some difficulties in the secondary. For the most part they are the same guys as last year. In my opinion the problem has much more to do with the pressure from the front 4 than the defensive backs. Do we have any speed rush guys that are just too young to play now? Do we have a linebacker such as Howard who switched positions to take advantage of his speed? Our pressure is lacking for the first time in several years and that appears to be the db problem. Mahalo and God Bless!

Besides the OLine Problems, it still seems like last year we were scoring so many more points, we still have Mohammed and AJ is Awesome, but when are they going to get some other go to receivers? What’s wrong with Israel Troupe??? we need one more go to guy receiver wise. And although Stafford is a great QB it still seems like he’s off with alot of passes, whether it’s under throwing or over throwing the ball. how about we rotate King in a little more or Samuel? And it seems to me we have run the same basic plays almost all year. I know they have a much bigger play book? Is it just because they’re worried our players can’t handle more plays or what? We’ll see come Saturday, it’s time to start playing like we can boys!!!

I think the questions about Caleb King being in the game were silly. Knowshon had 23 carries in the game. That’s enough carries for one back. The idea behind having two or three tailbacks is that you can keep them fresh. I know the reporters have to ask questions. That’s why they get paid. But it seems they could come up with something more substantial than a silly question. A question for Coach Richt: If you anticipate that the punt will come down inside the 20, will you ever put Prince Miller back there. At least Logan Gray knows when to let the ball bounce into the end zone.

Barring injury the dude is going to throw for 3,000 yards this year and is completing 61% of his passes right now. He’s the SEC’s top passer. What the crap are you talking about? I’m not saying we’re perfect but good grief people get a clue. This is out of control.

Chip,
I have a simple question: Why haven’t we seen Knowshon and Caleb in the backfield at the same time? Will we? I would think that would get a defense guessing and make a mistake, not to mention two gamebreaking backs in at once. Bobo needs to open up the playbook a little this time!

Mr. Towers could you please ask him how does GA constantly get the top talent in the nation and we can never seem to really compete for a national title. If Mathew Stafford is the best QB in the nation. And Knowshon Moreno is the best RB in the nation. And AJ Green is the best wide reciever in the nation. How come can’t we win a nationtal title. Because where I come from, if you have the talent, and you still dont win, then it obviously must be bad coaching.

How are we going to handle the pressure from the LSU D line? They looked good against SC, especially in the second half. Do we have a plan if they put all D Ends on the D line again? That’s a lot of speed coming at Stafford and sacks/interceptions become a definite concern? A lot of max protect? Screens to counter their aggressiveness? How much does it help to have Tripp Chandler back? Southerland at TE to help block?

Why not play the whole game like we do the fourth quarter, blitz on defense and grind the running game on offense. As a former lineman I know it’s easier to run block than pass block.

Chip,
I’d like to know why we don’t have some sort of 5-10 yard line package for Logan Gray, he’s a running qb that i think would catch people off guard when we’re close to the Goaline, just brings an added dimension to the game. I always wondered why we didn’t do this when Greene was playing and Shock was backing him up.

I would ask the coaches this question. You are coaching in a great state, great college, and for a great head coach, so why are you coaching like you have a little league team? I would ask the trainer this question. When did you substitute welder’s gloves in place of regular gloves. The receivers can’t catch the ball wearing those welder’s gloves. To the players, this comment. Keep playing like you have been, and there will be 3 losses in your next 4 games.

Fed Up Dawg,
We’re just pointing out what seem to be flaws in the game plan at points - things that might hurt us more when playing against teams like LSU & Florida. That’s all. I agree that we’ve done well in a lot of categories, but we’ve underachieved in a lot of areas. In my book, pointing out areas where it seems like we need to improve doesn’t make you an unsupportive fan. Overall stats look good, and players are having great individual years, but the overall offensive game plan and style certainly looks out of sync at times. Call me crazy.
Maybe we need to start these posts with a disclaimer: “I support UGA, & I’m happy that we’ve got a winning program and still have a shot at the SEC and BCS championships. I might be completely wrong, but I’ve got some questions about areas I think we could improve on. Can I bring them up without getting yelled at?”

Have there been any experiments in practice at DE with players currently playing other positions (perhaps players who arent currently getting real game snaps at their current positions)? Have any of the linebackers been thrown in there in practice to see what they can do? (Bearing in mind that David Pollack came in as a fullback, Marcus Howard came in as a LB, etc…)

LSU took advantage of SC’s weak running game in 2nd half…will that same defensive scheme be effective against UGA and a better rushing attack?
If LSU gets overly aggressive…a few short passes to the TBs/FBs could break them down…I’m just hoping the OL has grown up in the last couple of games.
Agree with previous posts that blitzing their young QBs might be the best solution on defense. There is nothing more helpless than watching opposing QBs sit back in the pocket with no pressure and all day to throw…their QBs must be rattled some and they will make mistakes.

Chip, as far as our punt returners go, Bobo is only putting him back there to appease him and allow him to log some playing time this season, without him getting frustrated. It is obvious that he has been instructed to fair catch the ball every time. Logan Gray is a athlete, but to be honest, I have some real doubts about his future roll in the UGA program. I don’t believe he will ever be our quarterback, when you look at our current personnel, and the recruits we have coming in. If Stafford goes next year, Joe Cox will certainly get the starting job. And in 2010, Murray and Mettenberger will be in a fight for starting QB. There is no denying that Logan can help our team, but the question is how. Any thoughts?

I would like to know if we are still using a script for a certain period of the game. It seems like we try different things at the beginning of the game and then we get away from what has been working against that particular defense. If we have a good passing attack and the run is stalling (like Saturday against Vandy) it seems as though Bobo is being stubborn and wants to prove that the run is there. The same is true vice versa. Why can’t we get away from a script if the script is not working???

How about this softball of a question, How awesome is it to coach the University of Georgia?
Apparently to many this is the only type of question you would prefer to see asked? It is perfectly reasonable if you ARE A TRUE FAN and can take off your rose colored glasses to see legitimate flaws in this team. It is the blind homers who give the reasonable UGA fans a bad name. So before you start labeling us bandwagoners or fairweather you might need to do a self analysis on where you stand as to be an objectionable fan of this program.
I remember the Goff days, hell I even attended a football camp in the Summer of ‘92. I remember the Donnan days where we had all the talent in the world, but could not put a TEAM together.
UGA under CMR has been a steller program on the field. He has legitimized the program. We now want to see him take the program to the next level. I can only speak for myself, but I see the potential in this team and coaching staff in doing just that. I however become extremly frustrated, when it seems obvious to me that there are fundamental problems that some how must be corrected.

Martinez, Do you not realize that on 3rd and 2, there is no need to play 8 yrds off the ball? We are being “pitched and catched” to death. If the first 4 guys cannot get pressure, BRING MORE. If you could just stop 2 extra 3rd downs per game, OUR offense gets a minimum of 8 mor eplays to run, and the defense is out there for a minimum of 8 fewer plays per game. 16 play turn around-maybe 8 minute swing in TOP.

perhaps B. Evans can play more at free safety and let Cuff step up—opposing coaches have identified him as the weak link (never seems to get beaten badly just never quite there and seems unsure whether to react to the ball or to the receiver)
we need more speed coming off the D-Line-just not explosive at DE-at least get hands in the air and bat a few of those down
Vandy should not have scored in the first half, nor should have ASU (D gets complacent and takes series off-usually results in a TD-we will lose saturday if D plays like that)
but overall i get the sense of a leadership void on the Defense-i would like to ask that to Garner or Martinez
i think the Offense given the situation with the Line is playing very well-will not be alot of opportunities on Saturday so execution will be everything

Lowcountry Bulldawg, if you rememeber the Goff and Donnan days you should thank your lucky stars that we are 6-1 and still in the thick of the SEC race. We were never in contention for anything under those clowns. Since when is 6-1 not enough? It always has been in the past. You are “extremely frustrated” about our “fundamental problems”, but fail to remember our fundamental problem in not being able to beat a single team of significance until Richt came along. We have been capable of beating every single team on our schedule since he has become coach. That is all you can ask for. Expectations have been out of control this year. Did you expect perfection every time they stepped on the field? Did you expect this to be easy? Did you expect the opposing team to just lay down and die for us every week? I get the feeling that this is what alot of Georgia fans expected this year. Here’s a big newsflash for you: Other teams in the SEC have talent too and are just as motivated to take it to the next level as we are. They also have really good coaches who know what they are doing. This is a very difficult game in a very difficult league. Quit your whining people and support the team. They are doing their best and will not quit. I will be a proud blind homer if I damn well please. Its just a game.

A lot of you must not read up on UGA. A lot of the questions y’all are asking have already been answered recently. We are not utilizing the TEs as much in the passing game, because they are staying in to block to help the young O-line. We are trusting AJ and MoMass to get open in two or three receiver routes and they have been doing it. I guess Asher Allen isn’t returning punts or kickoffs because he is the only cover corner we can trust (i.e. Bryan Evans), so we must not want to take a chance of him getting hurt. Logan Gray fair catches because he is usually only in their punts deep in our territory where the ball is punted higher and shorter and usually with either fair caught or let to roll into the end zone. We do need some plays out of the return game. I suggest Prince for punts and try Caleb King on kickoff returns, with Logan backing up Prince and ReMarcus Brown backing up Caleb.
Questions:
Do you think our ianbility convert red zone opportunities into touchdowns is due to the young offensive line, or the fact that Bobo gets too cute and trues to call “the perfect play” like Richt used to do?
Marcus Howard stepped up at DE out of nowhere last year, without really showing any signs of it during the games. Do you think one of oue DE is about to break out? No secret that our pressure hasn’t been there and we need someone to step up. They have the talent and desire, what is stopping them from having the light turn on and produce.
Do you think having Clint Boling at LT has made us a better run blocking team? Obviously, that is a strength of his. Our running game has gotten better the past two weeks with him there and the return of SOutherland. Is this a coincidence, or what do you think?

Chip, I’d ask CMR: 1) Coach Bobo has shown he likes to throw deep downfield several times each game. Will your strategy change at all this week with the aggressive LSU defense? Maybe throw more shorter, high-percentage passes that gets the ball out of Stafford’s hands quicker? Or have Stafford run out of the shot-gun more often to get him away from the line?
And
2) You’ve proven the running game works when you need it to (i.e. 4th Qtr Vandy and Tenn), but you haven’t seemed to establish the run game early on in games (as Alabama did against you). This week especially, how important is it to establish the run game from the start, take some pressure off Stafford, and get the team into a rhythm?

Chip:
I would like to see you ask CMR directly why he is keeping such a low profile this year. After last year, he seems to be consciously blending in with the woodwork. Is it because of all the flack from the Florida end zone celebration? Or maybe because of the way the Alabama blackout sort of backfired? It seems last years team got fired up when Richt got fired up. This year the team seems almost robotic, just like CMR.
Maybe they’re saving a little something for these next two tough games, but I just don’t get the feeling they are. Anyway, it would be interesting to hear his answer.

Thanks Cameron for making that point on the Tight Ends. You are exactly right. How can we expect to throw to the TE if the very man he would have blocked is back there clobbering Stafford! Our O Line needs the blocking help - the last thing they need is to send another blocker out for a pass when we have great WR’s getting open.
And to all of those who keep criticizing Bobo/Martinez - enough already. We rank near the top of the SEC in many offensive AND defensive categories. Yes, there have been some questionable calls, but these guys have put there squads near the top in the SEC. And as far as the Moreno/Caleb carry situation - 23 carries for over 170 yds before trips to Baton Rouge and Jacksonville is plenty for Knowshon. Caleb is a very capable back.

Chip, please ask CMR to ban the use of “advertising” of any kind on players’ eyeblack. The stuff is designed to improve eyesight by keeping glare from reflecting into their eyes, not to serve as billboards.
When a player puts little “oval G” logos on his eye black, it is actually counter-productive and reflects more light into his eyes (perhaps this explains Saturday’s ‘drops’ in the secondary?).
Let LSU and Florida blind themselves with bright school logos and white lettering under their eyes advertising their area code or their girlfriend’s name or whatever else they ‘represent’… The Dawgs should put the black back in eyeblack.

I say let them go have “fun” with LSU. Wear the famous Red pants of the 80’s. Try to hold down pentalies but no running for punishment (don’t let them think for a split second about next day punishments) just go get “them” with speed. It’s been a great year so far and as everyone knows how important the next few games are and what is at stake. So let the hammer back and go after them..

Don’t forget, other young corners sometimes have been slow to come around, i.e. Bruce Thornton and Paul Oliver but took a huge jump. We need to coach the kid but sit him until we see more confidence and improvement because he has the physical tools.

I’ll echo some other comments; my two main questions would be about the linemen in the trenches.
LSU likes to blitz, does he feel his line is ready for that?
And there is obviously no pass rush coming from a 3 or 4 man front. Does he feel his secondary is ready to line up on an island while we blitz some linebackers and safeties?
Another remark from your column today: I feel for Evans somewhat. I expected great things for him. But it was definitely time to put Cuff in. We’ve heard great things from the coaches re: Cuff. Time to see it on the field. Evans got beat by some perfect passes and great catches, but he was obviously getting picked on, especially the last two weeks. Maybe some better technique will help him utilize that speed better in the future.

Or have Stafford run out of the shot-gun more often to get him away from the line?
and
2) You’ve proven the running game works when you need it to (a la 4th Qtr Vandy and Tenn), but you haven’t seemed to establish the run game early on in games (as Alabama did against you). This week especially, how important is it to establish the run game from the start, take some pressure off Stafford, and get the team into a rhythm?

Can some of the idiotic play-calling be blamed on Stafford opting out of the original play or is this all Bobo’s fault?
Since Richt is no longer calling plays, is he doing anything to pump up the players on the sidelines? They look listless & uninspired!

Why do we pass so much on first down? It seems to me with a heisman caliber back in Moreno, and a great backup in King, we would run the ball more. Granted Stafford has a great arm and all, but if we established the run, or atleast tried to establish the run first, it would open up the passing game. It just looks really stupid when we come out on our very first play from scrimmage, and try to throw a low percentage bomb. Then, we run it on 2nd down for one or two yards, and put ourselves in 3rd and long. That’s not the way to play football when you have great backs. Even if you only pickup 2 or 3 yards on first down, 2nd and 7 looks much better than 2nd and 10. Pickup a few on 2nd down, and your left with 3rd and 5 or less. WE THREW THE BALL WAY TOO MUCH ON 1ST DOWN AGAINST VANDERBILT. Come on Richt/Bobo….use a little bit of common sense!
I remember our first drive against Florida last year. We ran the ball on every single down all the way to the endzone, which set the tone for the rest of the game.
For once in your career Mark Richt, use your talent to your advantage!

I’d just wish him luck - who am I to ask Mark Richt anything about football? I might ask him how he deals with the lunatics in his fan base, and does it make him want to coach somewhere out west where they remember that it’s still a game. I’d congratulate him on being 6-1 and still in control of his own destiny in the SEC despite injuries that would ruin most teams’ seasons. I’d thank him for bringing top level football and SEC championships back to Athens after a 20-year drought.

Question to CMR: If you continually recruit Non-Student Football players for an Academic Scholarship (free education) why do you fret when they continually get arrested and make your program a laughing stock. Why do you fret when they are called for personal fouls and ruin you TD drive, or why do you continue to fret when they run the wrong pattern or ht the wrong hole? It started when you recruited them. They had lack of motivation to learn form the start and many had lack of character to start. It seems that you brought this thug recruiting style from FSU. I guess you will never learn that smart football players are better than stupid ones.

By birddawg

I would echo most of Top 5 Dawg’s questions but in a little broader way:
Can Mark Richt not see that his defense since Brian Van Gorder left is a shadow of its former self? B/n the once-a-year 30 pts in-a-half meltdowns, the poor rushing D against elite competition (I’m talking ranked OOC and in-conference games here—-look it up—-we almost always give up 100+, ever since Martinez took over), and this year, the pathetic pass defense, this program will never see the national championship as long as Martinez is in Athens.
Special teams coverage has been suspect throughout CMR’s tenure. Something needs to change.
Richt’s teams also do not catch the ball. This has been another one of those areas that have been a problem throughout his time in Athens.
To this fan, who is a season ticket holder, lives out of state and has been to at least one game in Athens for at least 19 of the past 20 years, these are the areas that are consistently problems for the Dawgs that I cannot for the life of me understand how a coach of Richt’s caliber and accomplishment continues to fail to see. These aren’t just issues of this season, these are recurrent over years—-on defense since CWM took over, on special teams and with receivers since Richt showed up. I’m sure Mark Richt is loyal to his staff, but at a certain point, performance has to be the measure, and if you have not seen these problems over the years, you have not been paying attention. In this fan’s opinion, UGA will never win more than the occasional conference championship until Richt gets serious about addressing the source of these problems.

Question: Every successful team in history is both fast and aggressive on defense. We are fast. When are we going to play with a ‘junk yard’ scheme and spend more time in the quarterback’s face with pressure than chasing down receivers doing 5 and 10 yard crossing routes all day? If we have fast corners, why not turn on the spigot and force the young quarterbacks to make quick decisions?

My questions are:
Why don’t we ever throw a play action inside slant or crossing route on offense?
Why does Stafford continually throw to covered receivers?
Why do we continually throw the fade route in the endzone? When was the last time that play worked?
I’m guessing the staff will stick with I-formation the next two weeks? It works and the other formations aren’t any where near as successful in terms of yardage.
Why don’t we ever blitz? I’m guessing we’ll see more blitzing the next two weeks?

I too was somewhat perplexed by UGA electing to kick the ball against Vandy. I could understand giving up the ball in inclement weather or if one had a shut down defense, but UGA seemed to give up field posistion in the first quarter. Vandy wanted to play ball control and keep the score close, kicking seemed to play into their hands. As for Knowshon leaving in the second half, He takes himself out of the game when he feels it necessary. Moreno may be somewhat banged up. I would ask CMR about that, but I wouldn’t expect an answer, theres no sense in giving info to the enemy. Ditto for asking about kicking away from LSU’s or UF’s return men. Why tip your hand? I think Mimbs tried to punt away from Bama’s punt return guy and had the worst day of his career. Unless he has learned the directional kick you might as well have him boom it 60 yds. I would like to know if Vance could be red shirted, and what about T King? As a matter of fact Chip, who are UGA’s red shirts?

How do you possibly feel bad for Brian Evans? Sure, we could use a little more pressure up front, but you don’t see Asher Allen or Prince Miller consistenly burned by throws over the top. Please ask Richt to start Cuff and ask Evans why he refuses to turn around and find the ball. It is getting really old. DAP01 posted “I would ask CMR, why do you think so GA Tech has such a hard time selling tickets? The pop up on the AJC website is really annoying.”
Not as annoying as seeing the AJC favoring the Athens dawgs over the Home Town Yellow Jackets while also evolving into a far left, socialistic, pro-Obama smear rag.
As has been repeatedly pointed out, the Tech student body is about 1/2 UGA’s. Large #’s of Tech grads leave the state while most UGA grads don’t. Tech has to contend with the Falcons and other big city competition. Athens has to contend with cows, corn, and cotton. Athens has the advantage of large #’s of rabid redneck non-alums who come to their games. Tech’s away games, however, even in distant sites, always display large #’s of Tech fans. I was in South Bend for the Notre Dame game, and there was a very large contingent of Tech fans. I suggest you get professional help for your Tech-hating problem.

I always here the NFL experts say that if you have o-line issues that one way to get around it is to go no huddle offense. Having the game in Jacksonville is tradition. And it all boils down to money and recruiting. It offers Georgia a huge advantage to play in the state of FL every year when it comes to recruiting. Plus how would the Wal-Mart in Athens keep enough jean-shorts in stock for the gator fans? Or how would the gas stations and liquor store keep enough Zima in stock? The question I would ask CMR is why we don’t try and run more no-huddle offense. It has worked well the few times we have used it this year.

** Here are some Facts about the ACC.”
The following graphic and comments were noted on Raycom TV during the GT-Miss. State game: * “MORE PLAYERS WERE DRAFTED FROM THE ACC, 115, OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS THAN FROM ANY OTHER CONFERENCE! THIS INCLUDES THE #1, 2, AND 3 PICKS: MATT RYAN, BC; CALVIN JOHNSON, GT; AND MARIO WILLIAMS, NC STATE!”*
This was also noted in the AJC: http://www.ajc.com/gatech/content/sports/gatech/stories/2008/09/15/georgiatechacc_sec.html in an article by KEN SUGIURA.
Also, the ACC is only 1 point behind the SEC in the Sagarin Ratings: 1 BIG 12 = 78.48
2 BIG TEN = 77.62
3 SOUTHEASTERN = 77.41
4 ATLANTIC COAST = 76.42

Questions for CMR & Coach Bobo, why not utilize Chandler & Durham (when he returns) more? Durham has the best size and 2nd best hands in the WR Corps (MoMass might seem “better”, but that’s because he gets more passes thrown to him). Also, why not give more handoffs to Chapas & Southerland? Using the FB more would keep the defenses from over-focusing on Moreno. I sure hope the underutilization of these talented players isn’t caste related!

Why do we not constantly put pressure on the QB? We did it twice last year—against Florida and Hawaii, and look at the momentum and the end result it created. The prevent defense does NOTHING but prevent us from stopping the drive. Our opponent consistently gets 8-15 yards per carry or pass. Pressure worked in two of our biggest games last year, yet now we rarely do it. WHY???

I can’t even begin to try and think of a question; too many (why so many busted plays, penalties, lack of pressure on qb, why don’t we pound the ball inside the 10, we blitz 2-3 times a game, it works every time, yet we don’t do more of it, etc.) I more interested in other things. Why don’t we have game changer on defense (haven’t had one since Pollack)? We haven’t had an AA cb since Champ Bailey 10-12 years ago. What exactly is the plan if Knowshon leaves? From what i’ve seen of Caleb King, he’s no threat. He’s a nice compliment and change of pace to give KM a breather but that’s all. What’s the plan when Stafford leaves? He is the highest ranked recruit we’ve had, maybe since Herschel. Who is in line to take his place?
Assuming Stafford comes back that means Cox will be gone. You’ve given Gray no experience at QB. If Stafford and Moreno leave after this year, we are f’d!!

This team is an enigma, at times we run the ball well,at other times the running backs have to fight for their life and expend enormous energy not to take a 3 yard loss. At times we throw the ball like no one can stop us, at other times we look like a back yard game and the Qb says everyone just get open.
I counted on every possession we didn’t score on SAturday that WE did something stupid to stop ourselves, not Vandy. AN example: evidently Stafford throws a quick out to the wrong receiver (the one who was supposed to be blocking for the other guy). Or the center thinks he has a guy jumping offsides, so he hikes the ball, except the defensive guy has already jumped back on side. Or inexplicably at times we run on first down for no gain, we run on 2rd down for no gain then we are 3rd and long and don’t convert. We miss 2 field goals or we throw an interception when our receiver has beat his man because Stafford hurries his throw and doesn’t set himself, throws off his back foot and it comes up short. On another occassion Green has a deep ball down the sideline he is coverd well but the ball bounces off his chest. I really didn’t see Vandy ever stop us, we stopped ourselves. WE have seen the enemy and the enemy is us.
This team has not overacheived all year, but they have underacheived and still managed to win, because of having better athletes, not because they were”coached up.” It will probably take heroic efforts to beat LSU and especially Florida. It will take some overacheiving..anymore underachieving from here on out spells a loss.

Wow. WOW! That’s about all I can say the overwhelming response from you guys regarding my solicitation for questions for the Dogs. Like they say, “be careful what you ask for.” I mean, I knew I’d get a response. But I didn’t imagine this many. So thanks!!
First of all, due to your overwhelming response, obviously I’m not going to be able to get to all of the sensible questions. So here’s what I’m going to do:
Tomorrow I’ll put up an all knew blog focusing mainly on the most oft-asked queries from you guys. In the meantime, I’m just going to give a quick review of what we heard at the press conference today. And just to be clear, I asked some questions just because it’s what you guys wanted to know:
Richt on playing at Tiger Stadium: “I can truthfully say it’s the loudest place I’ve ever been.” …
Richt on injury status of LB Dannell Ellerbee and TE Tripp Chandler: “Ellerbe didn’t look as agile as we hoped. I wou;dn’t say I’m more optimistic. I’m probably a little less optimistic.” Same on Chandler… .
Richt on kick returns: “Actually I felt like we were just a block away from breaking one around Game 4. We were getting some really good returns. Then we took a step back… . Quite frankly, we quit blocking as well, but we also didn’t think Richard [Samuel hitting them quite as good as he should.” Went on to say Remarcus Brown will take over full time again for this game… .
As for punt returns, CMR feels they’ve “settled in pretty good” withy Prince Miller as primary returner and Logan Gray for punt safe situations in Georgia’s half of the field… .
“Winning to me is pretty stylish.” CMR on not putting together an impressive victory for the pollsters… .
Thinks PK Blair Walsh is going to be fine after missing 37- and 40-yard FGs last Saturday. “I think Blair is going to come back and do well,” Richt said. “He has such good fundamentals… . He barely missed those two. It’s not like he was wildly hooking them.” …
CMR talked to defensive coordinator Willie Martinez about all the dropped interceptions opportunities recently and the lack of takeaways. Only LSU (7) has fewer takeaways than Georgia (8) in the SEC. “We’re chucking them a ton of balls and working a lot on stripping,” Richt said. Creating more pressure is part of that, he said, but it can’t be done with abandon…
Like I said, I’ll try to answer more of your questions specifically tomorrow. I’ll get to some of the better ones here as I go through the afternoon but have to get my stories done first. I’ll be close by and monitoring.

Over all our D-Philosophy seems to be very conservative (like the soft zone on Julio on second and long,it was just pitch and catch after the d had made good stops on the first down runs)which I believe really built Parker Wilsons confidence earlly in that game. Will we ever play agressive at the start of a game and not let a young QB, get there confidence up?I wish coach would start out agressive just one time and if we get burnt go back to vanilla. Its a matter of phiosohy, which I’m sure is not going to change and I’m not being smart by saying that.If you look at our scoring defense it is overall better than most of your other so called good def coordinators year in year out.But that has lead to the biggest problem with our scoring offense since he has been here,we always have long fields, hardly ever does our offense get a couple of cheap scores to help momentum wise.If you check out the latest NC’s they have all played agressive defences, which leaves me to just wish.Having said all that I’m very pleased that pretty much every year we are playing for something unlike the previous 20 years before he got here!!!!!!!!!!!

Chip… I think that you should ask Coach richt why, with all these EXPERTS on this blog, none of which have ever even suited up in a college game, much less coached one, why he doesn’t just take the week off and let these know-it-alls coach the team by committee. Chip, Please excuse me if this has been mentioned before but as far as I can tell it hasn’t been. Please ask Coach Richt: Why was the route of the Dawg Walk changed against Vandy to go through the Gate 1 tunnel instead of the gate 10 tunnel? if there going to start the Dawg Walk earlier then they need to have the stadium gates opened before it starts & alert the Dawg Nation of the changes!
We come in at gate 6 then catch the end of the Dawg Walk as the team comes onto the field because of these changes we completely missed the players & coaches. This also caused some of the player’s families to miss it as well & of course they were quite upset about it. The Southerland’s were the easiest to identify since they had on t-shirts with Brannan number on it.
Football wise: I too would like to know why the TE’s, especially Arron White, are not being integrated into the passing game.
As far as everyone mentioning Logan Gary possibly not being a QB in the long run, I notice he didn’t even warm up with QB’s for the Vandy game. If Stafford stays then it’ll be a 3 or 4 man fight for the job in 2010 with Gray having the edge since he’ll have been in the program the longest. However if Stafford leaves then I think Gary will win the job over Cox next season while Mettinburg (if possible) & Murray (due to his ankle) redshirt. This brings to mind: With the injury to Murray will we need to sing another QB (for a total of 3) in the 2009 class?

It’s either pitiful play calling, lack of execution, stupid penalities, or seemingly being unprepared to play.
BOTTOM LINE: WE PLAY THE NEXT 2 GAMES LIKE THE FIRST 6 AND WE WILL GET EMBARASSED!!
You can defend whoever you want, make a counterpoint all you want, the fact remains the same. We play the next 2 games like we have the previous 6 and we will get embarassed!!

Did you ever think that maybe LSU might be watching? Let’s just tell them who’s going to perform each position and in what situations and just take the guess work out of play for the opponent. That would be so brilliant. Get real people. Chip, all due respect but these things are cliche’ laden and that’s for good reason. 7 straight,
If you use the playing the game logic then Bill Bellichek, Mike Shanahan, Jon Gruden and Mike Holmgren would not have jobs in the NFL! They never played so what could they possibly know about it.
Go ask Knowshon Moreno about the game. He is on record as never watching the game. He just plays it. By your logic of having played, one day he will be a great coach.
Most of us have never suited up for a college game but that does not dilute our knowledge or intellect into it. Believe you me, CMR is a 2 million dollar a year salesman and general manager. You pay me that kinda change and I bet your bottom I could be pretty dang good at it. CMR gets paid to sale the school and his programs ability to compete for a NT every year. CMR is a general manager in the sense that as all good managers must know how to do is to delegate responsibility.
Again, I love having CMR at this University, but please stop with these ridiculous comments.

I have only one question that I haven’t already seen asked. Why isn’t Moreno used as a receiver more often? I’ve seen him in the backfield on lots of pass plays, and usually once a defense figures out he’s not going to get the ball on a straight run, it’d be very easy for him to come off a block and catch a short lob — a screen or check-down style dump — resulting in lots more running room than a straight between-the-tackles handoff. I remember lots of UGA tailbacks (Herschel, Garrison, etc.) being used this way, but very few of those kinds of touches for KM, so I’m curious as to why.

UGA has given Stafford a lot of leeway in changing plays when he gets to the line of scrimmage. I wonder how many times per game he has actually changed the play and if Bobo is satisfied with what he is changing to. Obviously the coaches are somewhat satisfied or they would change things.
Its just that there are a lot of complaints about gameplan, playcalling, etc. and it seems that Stafford has a blank check to change things up. I’m sure that we’ll never find out the truth… because it could lead to “blame game” stuff.
Ultimately, the responsibility falls on the OC, but I’ll be damned if I would completely trust my job security to the qb, I don’t care if its Brett Favre, much less a twenty year old who needs to impress the NFL scouts. I’m not trying to say that Stafford is not a team player or would put his own personal interests above the team’s, but there must have been some plays where Bobo has disagreed with Matt’s judgement, and I wonder how prevelant the matter has been.
And maybe the check isn’t completely blank when it comes to what Stafford can change the play to, but I’m interested in finding out more about it, if possible.

ES-Drawing offsides IS the play. The qb tricks them offside with a hard count and a quick 5 yds. It slows the defense when they are too aggressive. Other offsides occur, but if you are intent and focused on the play your timing won’t be as good as on the intentional drawing offsides. If you think you can think any faster and can perform under those conditions, you would not impress me as being a fan of this game. Sometimes he makes a play when they are offside as you suggested. You probably haven’t seen enough pro ball to see the intentional kneeldown, but it happens. The snap comes as soon as the qb can say “Hike”. That is not the normal snap and is a play between the center and qb. By the time the words are heard and a response comes to the center, the aggressor pulls his leg back. Tivo the play and replay to see how quickly it all has to happen. You may get a better appreciation of the play , the coordination and the quick thinking required to pull off the play successfully. Don’t nit pick the Dawgs.
UgaVII- There is a rumor that more planes are being used to fly to NO because you had gas on the plane when you returned from Tempe. C’mon Dawg. Lay off the soy protein. One can backfire , puff your jaws out and you will look like a P-I-G. Three players were falsely accused before they found out it was you. Now you have everyone flying in different planes.

Chip Here are 3 questions for Coach Richt 1) with the season long lack of a pass rush from the DE’s, why haven’t you tried some different guys, tried to convert someone for the obvious passing downs or considered a different alignment? Neland Ball hasn’t played, how about Dewberry coming off the edge in an obvious passing situation, or a 6th DB to rush?
2) Why do we continue to struggle in kickoff coverage? Walsh is getting more distance but we continue giving the opponent field position outside the 25. Is the problem technique, missed assignments, or lack of speed in getting down the field?
3) At safety only Byrd and Jones are playing. Why is that? Is it a drop off in talent or injuries? John Knox has gotten a few snaps, what about the other freshmen such as Sanders Cummings who had a good preseason, Nick Williams, or Baccari Rambo? What would happen if Byrd or Jones were injured, who gets the call?

I couldn’t agree more about the offsides deal. When a defense jumps and the center snaps the ball, the line should be aware of it and go into pass blocking. Stafford rolls out to whichever side the wideout is on (giving him a chance to see if the flag was thrown) and either run the ball if no flag, or throw a long one to the wideout, who runs a fly pattern on the premature snap. We either get the penalty, whatever yardage Matt can get running, or a big play. Either way it beats the “take a knee” approach, imo.

Oledawg, Not nit picking just like the thought of a 30 yard gain instead of a five yard gain on a free play. And yes I have seen NFL teams long before Richt take a knee.He could take a three step drop and put it up with some air under it and I like my odds with AJ’s ability to get it.I could be wrong but its not a designed play, the center is instructed to snap it when someone jumps off prematurally.

I respectfully disagree with you. If it is a called play, there is no reason not have an actual play called instead of just taking a knee, if it works its a free down.
Most teams don’t wait on the qb to call hike, the snap is triggered by the center who snaps it as soon as he sees the defense jump.
As far as the play being too complicated or too hard to do because of timing, I can tell you that my high school team did the same thing over 30 years ago that I outlined above and although the success rate as far as a big play wasn’t great, the times it did work was a thing of beauty. Its pretty much like a busted play but if the center, wideout, and QB are on the same page can work great.
Because its a free down, you either get the offsides penalty, a big play, or in some cases off setting penalties because a lineman ran the play called in the huddle and was downfield or something similar.
This is not a huge deal, there are certainly plenty of other things that the offense needs more work on, but I still like the idea of trying to make the best out of a free down, rather than taking a knee, even if they just ran the play that was called in the huddle.

My question would be why do we allow Stafford to do the quick snap when someone jumps offsides? It has burned us a few times this year. We get a free play and the defense takes a little longer to start the rush because they are either backing up or making sure the ball is snapped. This is the perfect time to take a shot downfield.

Hunk Erdown and ES- Yes, the center snaps the ball automatically as well as the qb calling “Hike” if he sees it first. I took the question as genuine and replied as to why he doesn’t throw downfield. I did not imply that he shouldn’t or that he doesn’t. I took it (perhaps wrongly) as a nit pick on Staff like he doesn’t have the player skill or intelligence to take advantage of a free play. I did explain it so the poster would understand why he downed the ball quickly. Your respectful replies were appreciated. I did say that sometimes Staff makes the play as suggested by ES. I don’t think it is a bad play because he takes a knee (and you didn’t imply that), but I think its a great play to get the quick first down and limit the opponents aggressiveness. I think it is reaching to suggest he is supposed to go for a free play when things aren’t that cut and dried in the trenches. If you are wrong at the snap and you throw an interception on a perceived “free” play, what then? To suggest that it is an inferior play because he doesn’t go for it all the time is nit picking to me. Sorry.

I would ask the dogs how humiliating was it to think that you were going to run all over the Bammers and then get the living hell beat out of you on national tv during your “blackout”. I would then ask how many more Bulldogs can we expect to be arrested between now and the end of the year(10 already). Lastly, I would ask if Mark Richt is on the hot seat if he loses to LSU and Florida and if so how long before he is gone. Will it be 2 years or 3 years from now. He’s been there 8 years and no national title in sight. I think after this season the seat starts getting hot and gets really hot within 2 years. Stick a fork in the dogs for the rest of the year and stick one in Richt 2 years from now. You heard it here first.

Sorry Learned One, we didn’t hear it from you, here, first… We first heard it four years ago, the same thing… then again every year since. Every year there’s a moron or two like yourself saying that CMR will be on the hot seat, or will high tail out for Miami or FSU.
Meanwhile, CMR is buying up houses and property to move all his family and friends out to Athens with him. He’s never expressed anything but his happiness and contentment with UGA and his future here.
As far as UGA fans and supporters, not counting unknown bloggers on the ajc, (the majority of complainers are not even really UGA fans but trolls from rival schools) we wouldn’t fire CMR or put him on any kind of hot seat for anything in the world.
The only reason I am even answering your moronic statement is for the benefit of visitors and folks who are not aquainted with the depths of your stupidity. So continue on with your childish rants, just wanted to expose you for the insane idiot that you are. Have a nice day and try to remember not to double up on those anti depressant meds again.

It would be great to have Ellerbe back for this game…but he is more important for the UF game so keep resting him if that is what it takes. The UF game is a must-win situation regardless of what happens against LSU.

Chip
I enjoyed your article on the ‘06 recruiting class, good stuff, keep it up.
People talk about the Dawgs’ season thus far and most mention the o-line injury problems, but it seems like they gloss over it (some even make the comment: “injuries happen to everyone, its no excuse”).
Someone made the point that LSU’s youngest lineman is the same age or older than our oldest lineman. The difference between a 6’4” 285 lb freshman and a Senior of the same size may not look like much, but anyone who knows football or has been part of a College football team will tell you that the difference is huge.
It doesn’t just affect the linemen, it affects the whole offense… gameplan, play calling, formations, the whole works. I know that to the haters out there it might sound overly dramatic, but the fact is that even with no injuries UGA had a tough row to hoe with this year’s schedule. To do as well as we have this year with such a patched up o-line is phenonimal.
Another thing that people don’t consider is that the abilities/limitations of the o-line dictate a great deal of what portions of the playbook are available to the Offensive Coordinator.
So, before we break out the lynch mob invitations lets understand that Coach Bobo’s playcalling is a bit ham strung by the deficiences of the line and also a lot of the plays he calls are changed at the line of scrimmage by the QB.
One of the staples of our offense has been utilizing the tight end as a receiver. Personally, the way Tripp Chandler was dropping passes before he got hurt makes it fine with me if they don’t ever pass to the end again, but it sure makes it easier for defenses when they know that our ends have to stay home and block.
Sorry for such a long post, but the problems we have with our line (and I’m just talking about offense right now, the defense has been hit hard too) are crucial to our success, or lack thereof. Seasons are won and lost in the trenches, and our “trenches” have become friggin “canyons”.

Sting Doc- Calm down, “Doc”. Take a pill and don’t get them out of your Mother’s medicine cabinet.
Look, kid. No one believes your rant so suck it up and head for your “office”. I’m sure the other kids will let you treat them for hypertention since you probably give it to them. And don’t pick your nose! (hypertention = high blood pressure). You better not let your Mom know that you were on here past 10PM or they won’t let you rant and rave all over the blogs in Atlanta anymore.
