UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

Season-defining drive for Dogs
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
That, ladies and gentlemen, was a season-defining type of drive that Georgia put together to win the game.
It may not seem like it to a lot of fans since the Bulldogs did a lot of things to keep Tennessee in Saturday’s game at Sanford Stadium. But with the Vols clinging to life in an extremely important SEC East rivalry game, Georgia ran 17 offensive football plays and consumed 10:55 off the clock in the fourth quarter before punching through a partially-blocked 28-yard field goal. It was the death blow in a 26-14 Bulldog victory.
Those of you that saw it know Georgia did way too much to keep UT in the ballgame. In reality this was a 30-something-to-single-digits game. The Bulldogs were the dominant much better team. But a the Vols turned around two Matthew Stafford interceptions, each representing at least 10-point flips because Georgia didn’t get a field goal and they scored touchdowns.
But the Bulldogs dominated both sides of the ball the rest of the day. And with Vandy’s loss to Miss. State, they’re in control in the East at 5-1 (2-1 SEC).
Stafford, by the way, had his first 300-yard passing game with 310 on 25-of-36 but with 2 picks and 1 TD. Knowshon Moreno had 101 yards on 27 carries.
But what you should remember is Georgia’s game-winning drive. 11 plays, nine of them rushing and the grand majority of those coming around left end where the Dogs earlier lost LT Vince Vance to a likely season-ending injury.
Well, that’s the quick version. Tell us what you thought about it.

What’s up Dawgs? I turned to the UT Georgia game after USC v ASU.
Congrates on the win. It looks like both our teams are working their way back up.
Well we have a common opponent to compare now, ASU. Looks like we are a little better than you on both sides of the ball.
I hope everyone else loses 1 or 2 more and USC UGA get to play that game we should have seen last year. I’ll check in from time to time.

this team is SO CLOSE to being a scary offensive team. That was not choped liver they put up almost 500y yds on today. A couple of drops, and a couple of ints is all that kept this from being a beat down of epic proportions. The D played well also, except for the soft rush on the second td drive by ut. Good game Dawgs. Get ready for Vandy!

Chip, I saw the same game you did. While the record may show that UGA is the team to beat in the East if they take Vandy out, the Dawgs’ play on the field indicates otherwise. Another lifeless win over an outmanned opponent does not impress anyone. UGA better find some inspiration fast.

No way Tennessee can beat Georgia and the referees, that was some sorry officiating. If Stafford can’t take a hit get him out of the game, don’t have the referees protecting him.

Personally I was extremely disappointed in the offense and Bobo’s play calling. Uh, the fade pass in the end zone never worked…well, it did for UT. The Dawgs just didn’t seem fired-up on offense. I don’t know where to look for an explanation of what’s going on with the team, but I’m disappointed in what I saw today.

Nice to get a win, but it was ugly!! Yes, the 4th qtr. drive was a beauty, but we kept UT around all day with inconsistent play by the offense. This game should have been a total blowout, but we are not a dominant offensive team, and our lack of getting to the end zone kept a mediocre team hanging around all day. Thank goodness for Blair Walsh and his strong leg! THWGT!!

Too many penalties (yet again), too many stupid playcalls in the red zone, and too much not getting pressure on the QB. Would have been a shutout, had they not dropped back on so many plays. I don’t know why CWM couldn’t figure that one out on his own, but oh well. Probably would not have beaten UF or LSU playing like that. And another lineman out for the season was the last thing we needed.

Hey, I’m a big Dawg fan, but must confess that today’s game had me talking to myself. Something’s not quite right with the team…they seemed listless on offense and Stafford with either right on target or missed badly…some might have been the receiver’s fault. The Red Zone continues to elude the Dawgs and that’s going to get them in serious trouble with a good opponent. I’m a bit down after today’s game…not sure how good the team is. Mike Bobo should give some money back after calling for the fade pass so many times.

This was an ugly win against an overmatched opponent. Our offense is too inconsistent, and we kept UT in the game with our lack of td’s. I hate to say it, but if we don’t improve on the lack of td’s in the red zone, we will be on the short end of the score against the likes of LSU, UF, etc. You aren’t going to win many with just field goals! Thank goodness for Blair Walsh, or this game is a push!!

If Georgia wants to win out and play for a national title, they are going to have to win with a little more style. No one around the country will be impressed with this win, and yes in college football it is all about what others think about you. Still way too many penalties, will not beat Florida or LSU committing these type penalties.

I predicted 38 to 13.. We should have had at LEAST 2 touchdowns instead of FGs.
Question: Why cant we put anyone away ?
It was so frustrating to let them stay in the game until “the drive”…
Question: Why is our pass coverage so poor ?
Our run defense is the best in the SEC , but we need to cover better..a good QB would have killed us today.
I am still proud of our DAWGS…get ready for Vandy…at least they come in next week with a loss..

First Off thanks Chip for the in game reporting.
Next- with all due respect some of you need to chill out calling for Mike Bobo’s firing- get this the Dawgs did what they had to do and won. Tennessee was never- I repeat never in this game. We dominated on the line of scrimmage and there is a lot of good to take from this game. We must put this behind us and move forward and get ready to play a very tough opponent in Vandy next week. This team when it had too manned up and played smash mouth football.
This Tennessee team was playing for their lives and you may have forgotten or missed it but they are a lot better on defense this year than they were last year. I wouldn’t be surprised if they upset a couple of teams as their offense gets better with this kid Stephens at the QB. Their O-line was nicked up coming into this game and it happens to be one of their strenghts and if they get a few breaks then they are going to ruin someone’s season.
BTW South Carolina won again today- they are starting to jell and are getting better each week and it makes our win over them a lot more impresssive.
Go Dawgs

Pathetic?, Matt Stafford is in no way overrated. He is in the top 15 in the Heisman race, (ESPN fan vote), had 274 yards in the loss against Bama, and had 300 today against Tenn. Get your facts straight before you go and call him overrated!! (Not to mention all the dropped balls the WR core has caused UGA the past few weeks)

If Stafford is a top 5 pick in the next NFL draft, whoever drafts him needs to fire the person responsible for making the pick on draft day. Has there ever been a more talked about, overrated QB in the history of college football? Now the QB’s at Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri those guys can actually hit a receiver in stride so that he can do something with it. I know understand after watching the Texas/Oklahoma game today why Stafford, a Texas boy came all the way to Georgia to play. Number one, Colt McCoy is just flat better than him at Texas so obviously he didn’t want to compete but Mark Richt promised him the job on a silver platter. So Georgia bound he was and he’s the main reason Georgia won’t win a National Championship while he’s there. Put DJ Shockley or David Greene on the field with that roster and Saint Mark could hold the crystal football. Maybe the next QB coming in here won’t be saddled with the responsibility of having to start even when he sucks.

It is amazing the people who call this a bad win. Did you forget that UT’s defense is one of the best in the SEC and that our offensive line dominated them? I was very impressed with our O-Line today and Stafford had 310 passing yards and Moreno rushed for over 100 yards which nobody has done against UT. I am amazed how right my professor was when he said ” You will be surprised how stupid people are out in the real world.” The comments on these blogs prove it.

Most frustrating team in America to watch. Never should UT even be in the game but somehow our coaching and bad play calling allows mediocre teams within striking distance.
Bobo’s coaching is absolutely abysmal, predictable, and down right pathetic inside the red zone and is the equivalent of watching FogHorn LegHorn run around in circles. For Gosh sakes, put the damn ball in the end zone. Yes AJ Green dropped a sure TD but what about the other 5 times in the red zone.
We have sooooo much talent it is ridiculous yet somehow we do a Bobby Cox and reduce our talent down instead of coaching them up, or better yet, letting them do their thing.

I don’t see us beating either LSU or Fla now-you just cannot lose that type of line talent and win the SEC or NC.

Well, well, well. So the blind squirrel finally found an acorn.
Tennessee had the misfortune to play against a team with 13 members on the field, two were wearing stripes. Such bad calls should make the conference kick the refs. out of further participation.
Georgia has nothing to be proud of. They beat a team with field goals who is in a down year. I see you losing to Florida, LSU and Ga. Tech. and maybe to Kentucky and Vandy.
So, you’d better pack your bags for the Independance or maybe the Peach Bowl!

First of all, Let me say Great Win! Any time we beat the Vols is a Great Win! However, I have to agree with most of the post. If we cannot run the ball in the Red Zone with some success between the tackles, we cannot and will not beat LSU or Florida. I don’t know why we could not put away the vols, they didn’t put up much of a fight! Are we ever going to throw to a tight end again in the Red Zone? I hate the throwback screens! Every other team in America can throw a Fade Route but us! Also, I about kicked the TV when we loaded up the left side, faked the pitch to Moreno and tried to throw a quick screen..then to make matters worst, we run the same formation on the next play, pitch it and Moreno gets creamed for a 5 yard lost…Somebody explain that play calling!
Go DAWGS..Beat Vandy!

There is no defense in the Big12, hints the score today in the Texas/OU game today. Don’t worry, the SEC is so powerful that its bound to happen that two of these schools play an SEC team in a bowl. Some of you “fans” are pathetic. 27 1st downs to 7, 151 rushing yards to 1… there’s more to the game than the score, and Tennessee was outplayed in every aspect of the game. Certainly, it’s frustrating to rack up threes instead of sevens… but the past two years Georgia lost this game, this year Georgia won. The goal is to win the SEC East, and have a chance to play for the SEC Championship. If Georgia can accomplish that, then things will work this season just fine.

The score of this game was actually 16-14 GA. (officials scored 10 for themselves with the bogus interference penalty and the bogus hit-to-the-head penalty in the 1st half, which led to 10 GA points.) However, a win is a win, no matter how ugly. I think knowledgeable fans know GA is not hitting on all cylinders right now, and that’s disturbing after an off-week. And I’m speaking of the coaches as well as the players. GA can do MUCH better.

We scored 2 field goals in the 2nd half…for you non math majors that’s 6 points! We score no points in the 1st half vs. Alabama…I see time and time again…stupid play calling…inside the 10 yard line..play Dooley Ball and run it down their throats.. Stafford can not hit a key pass when the field is so short…swing MO right 3 straight times..and I’ll bet my 401K that he scores more TDs that we do by throwing those back yard passes in the corner throws.

I don’t get why people call this an “ugly” win. UT has a tough defense. They had not allowed a team to do what we did today. There were like, ten personal fouls in the game…a lot of hard hits. This was not like Auburn winning a game 3 to 2. That was ugly.
True, we looked bad on the fade passes. We’re still dropping passes. There were missed assigments on pass coverage. We had a few missed tackles. But we did have a pass rush. We stopped the run in a big way. Stafford had 300 yds passing and Moreno had 100 yds rushing against a stiff run defense. Play calling has improved over the Alabama game too. We even had less than 100 penalty yds. Overall it was a pretty good win.
Regarding Stafford being overrated…It is so hilarious, you stupid trolls who want to act as if you know more about qb’s than former college qb’s, coaches, and people who watch and rate college football players for a living. I’ve not heard one expert in college football or pro football for that matter who says Stafford is overrated. You idiots are so funny.

The Dawgs did Dominate on both sides of the ball for the most part! Come on Dawg Nation don’t be to hard on em now! The dropped TD to AJ was just…just…. I don’t even know what happened there. maybe he was thinking of an end zone dance as he jumped into the air knowing he was wide open, but hey sometimes the easiest plays to make are often the toughtest. Don’t agree with Bobos fade routes what like 3 or 4 times in a row? Hello McBobo anybody there?? Matt made 3 or 4 HORRIBLE passes on all those fade routes, you would think after 2 bad throws Bobo would try something else, like a Moreno toss sweep and let his speed beat TN to the EZ! All in all they looked a heck of alot better than the AL game. Granted it should have been like 40 somethin to 7, but hey they’ve had alot of injuries, as far as by Pathetics comment on Stafford being overrated. i don’t think so you talk to anybody in the game College or pro ( The Mannings) he’s the best QB in the League. Steve Burlhein even said that during this past off season QB camp of some sort where Matt and Chase Daniel were there, Steve said Stafford was by far the better QB! Actually Ya’ll I apologize, AJ ran a bad route on the one fade where he tried to jump up and catch the ball, So it wasn’t all Staffords fault, i can’t wait to see Logan Gray in there probably next year.

Ugly listless but a win none the less. I think FL would take exception to GA being the team to beat. They are putting the hurt to LSU and did a much better job with TN than we did. On the bright side we don’t have to listen to Rocky Flop for another year!

Very frustrating game for UGA today. Lots of good (offensive yards, no running game on the defense, 4 field goals, kickoffs were better) and some bad (staffords two picks in the red zone, not finishing drives with touchdowns, terrible coverage when there is no pass rush and of course those penalties) but I will agree the defining moment was that drive which was a thing of beauty with the exception we did not get 6.

Hey dawgsarejokes (you’re a loser, BTW), they never penalized TN for roughing the passer. Did you even watch the game? The only questionable penalty was the helmet to helmet hit on MM, which at the speed it happened, was understandable how that mistake was made. BTW, if anyone needs to complain about bad penalties it’s UGA, all season. Not all of the ones we’ve been flagged for were good calls either. Funny thing though, when we complain about that, you probably take the other stand on it. Go screw yourself! And Go Dawgs!

I used to post regularly defending the Dawgs against poll bias and taunts of “overrated”. I can’t do that anymore. This a talented team that is sorely lacking something. Intensity, motivation, or whatever, it just doesn’t seem to be there for these Dawgs. I wish we could have bottled up whatever UGA was working with the second half of last season, because the Dawgs badly need it back.

There were others Nick. The pass interference call was bad. The defended never touched the UGA receiver, he timed it perfectly and went over the top of the shoulder. Only a UGA fan would have called that interference after seeing the slow-mo replay.
But it wouldn’t have change the outcome, only made it A LOT closer.
And that is what the UGA fan’s need to admit. That game was sloppy and you didn’t look like a Top 25 team, let alone a top 10.

The dawgs defense was great. The o was good. Matt Stafford is a good QB that could be great if he would learn to either eat the ball or throw it away rather than FORCE THE BALL TO TRY TO MAKE APLAY WHERE THERE IS NO PLAY TO BE MADE. Certainly we……Matthew allowed UT to get back into the game, but outside of those 2 drives following INT’s we DOMINATED. Go DAWGS and Matt we support you, but quit forcing.

Thanks a lot, DT Dawg, some of you others: It’s a real bear trying to watch these games, keep you guys updated on the blog then write on deadline as soon as it’s over. I’m just now through with the latter… .
UGA fan, some of you others: I know we all watched the same game but I don’t get a lot of the unbridled criticism if you’re looking at this game objectively. There were some play calls I didn’t like in the red zone, particularly Bobo’s infatuation with the fade pattern. And Stafford had one bad pick — which was a bad call, IMO — and one that was just a fluke that the D-end didn’t rush. And the defense gave up ONE YARD RUSHING. No, they didn’t shut them out or play particularly well after the turnovers. But, man, that’s was a pretty dominant game. Shoulda been at least 36-7… . Going forward I think Georgia has a lot to be optimistic about.
But that’s just me.

These stats are for all you idiots B*** about our win today: -We ran up 458 yds of offense -Tenn had not allowed a 100 yds from a rb this yr, Moreno had 101 -T.O.P. Uga-42:04, Tenn 17:56 -Tenn had ONE rushing yard
That is UTTER DOMINATION…..the scoreboard does not show it because we had a dropped td, and the REFS did not know a def holding penalty is an automatic first down….I am concerned about the Vance injury, but we pushed around a good def line in the 4rth without him…..

Its time to be a true college football fan and say that as a Georgia football fan, this is not a great team that everybody thought we would be. I know we have some key injuries, but I have never seen a team play with no discipline what so ever. The offensive line is young but they are not opening up any holes for moreno, he will go to the draft after this season. Stafford hasnt shown any growth as a quaterback as it pretains to hiting receivers in stride and footwork. Just looking at the Florida game now, and after watching what happened to them last year, Urban Myer is going to try to score 100 points on Georgia and after watching a seecondary that blow 2 coverages and gave up 2 touchdowns we will lose by atleast 3 touchdowns to Florida. Mark Richt will have a talented team with all of the injured players returning and this recruiting class. The major question for him will be who will be his offensive and defesive coordinators because Bobo called a horrible game!!! I mean he was predictable and down right awful! As I type, Florida scores again! Georgia needs to start looking for good coordinators for next year, and I offer this question to any true Bulldog fans,,, Do you think Georgia will ever win the Nation Championship with Mark Richt as it’s coach? I DON”T! Nice Guy, decent coach, but not a national champuonship type coach. He dosent have the personality or intensity to motivate his players. He cant seperate frienship from hiring the right personnel to help coach this team and ultimately that will doom Georgia.

If Georgia tries another jump ball to the end zone again, the whole world will be anticipating it so stop it.
It is stupid to repeat that play when Stafford is a better zip passer than a touch passer. Even a 10 foot receiver could not have caught his 2 touch end zone passes today.
Bobo called a good game between the 20’s but failed miserably in the red zone and Staffords 2 quarterback runs at the goal line surely did not work either, so Bobo needs to revive his play calling in the red zone or allow Richt to take over in the red zone. We are going to get out tails beat when the really good teams on our schedule play us if we do not improve our scoring in the red zone. This was a one-sided gain that was way too close because of the red zone debacle.

I’ve been around quite a long time and never seen officials as bad as they were today. Oklahoma/Texas game, a guy intercepts ball in end zone - ruled no catch. Tenn/Ga. game, ref calls personal foul for legal hit, calls pass interferance on pass play that clearly was not PI.
In the pros, San Diego lost a game due to a bad call.
My point is there should be reviews on all penalties called and be overturned. If the refs. don’t like it, tell them tough, go find another Saturday job.

You guys are all idiots. We looked worse at this time last year, getting the crap beat out of us by TN, and you all were riding the Bulldogs in National Championship game train by the end of the season. Now all you can do is get on here and b*** about the team. Yeah, we left a lot of points on the field but we got the win. I am not sold on LSU being so tough. Florida beating them so badly just made that obvious. Your short memories have forgotten that the juggernaut Gators just got beat last week by Ole Miss. Come on, anything can happen. Maybe Bobo is holding back the playbook a little for the games coming up with Vandy, LSU, and FLA (ok maybe that is total DAWG homer comment) but either way, be happy with the win, pull for your DAWGS, and if you want to bad mouth someone—badmouth Auburn.

The only consolation to the Bama game is to compare it to what LSU is enduring. It makes our loss to Bama look good. Sorry Tiger fans, this is a tough loss for you guys. We’ve only played 6 games and it seems like we are down to our last straw at OL…are the coaches panicking yet? I just don’t see how we can overcome so many devastating injuries. Its funny how some of you so called Dawg fans scream and b*tch about Bobo and the offensive play calling today. Look the Dawgs dominated this game and it was really never in doubt. The defense held UT to 1 rushing yard!!! Now that is domination. Stafford had an off day and he still passed for 300+ yards. Yes they left points on the field, but so what. They won the game and thats all that matters. Oh and I heard the same crap last year after the loss to UT, UGA will get smoked by UF and Auburn and will lose to Vandy or Kentucky and possibly Tech. For the love of GOD people, don’t start on the fire BoBo kick or the Mark Richt is too nice of a guy to win a NC mantra. These are the same coaches last year that went on a tear and demolished anyone that crossed their paths, so be patient. Injuries are killing us, YET we’re still a dominate club. We had one horrible half against Alabama. Otherwise, I see an extremely talented team. One that’s very capable of making it to the SEC Championship game. And yes, Gator Strike, we match up extremely well against your Gators. How about giving this team a little slack, people. I admit I was p** off at our finesse offense inside the redzone, but what we needed most today was a win, and we got it. Success breads success. I’m sure Bobo learned some things about this club today and he’ll improve on it! Remember, Injuries are taking a huge toll on this OLine… These guys are having to change positions weekly and they have a new guy playing beside them each game so just give them a damn break and enjoy winning sometimes! Every year is going to have its breaks and misfortunes… This team and these coaches are set up to win over the long haul. Change for the sake of change can be disastrous… our next president will exemplify that one.

Well even listening to post game Neil Williamson was wondering why the UGA fans were leaving and not hanging around. Fans I would say like the majority on this blog, saw that it was an ugly game. Lots of people on this blog including the writer want to go back and throw up stats but stats aint a hill of beans to whats important on the SCORE BOARD at the end of the game. Fans saw how UGLY this game was when the Dawgs should have put Tennessee away early and often but it didn’t happen. Im for one tired of this Finish the Drill mantra. This was a damn football game not football practice. We need to finish off the opponent. Bobo’s play calling was horrible. Stafford is a good QB , not a great QB. Both the Missouri kid and Colt McCoy are better QBs and yes even Tebow who had a phenomenal game against LSU tonight. If Richt doesn’t get it going soon Fla. will destroy UGA too. 3 of the 5 top teams in the country went down today. It goes to show you what can happen on any given Saturday. One loss does not take away the talent from any of these teams. Any team is vulnerable if they do not bring their A game to every opponent they face.
UGA has to play every game like it’s the SEC Championship game. They have got to stop the excessive penalties and dropped passes. Remedy these 2 issues and they are a force to be reckoned with. This is a team that was down by 31 pts in the 1st half of the Bama game and then dominated the 2nd half to make it a respectable game. This is a testament to the team’s talent and intensity. DC Dawg,
I wasn’t intending to wear the rose colored glasses until I started reading this blog. I, like a good many of you, was disgusted by the play calling today. Personally, I would run Knowshon at least 35 times a game minimum. And I’d make sure there was 15-20 more carries combined by Caleb and Southerland (nice to have him back). I have come to the conclusion that stafford doesn’t need to throw more than 10-15 times a game. He has a fine arm and is one of the top QBs in the league, but number 24 needs to be run like number 34 was back in the dooley days. This team is built to run and stop the run. The sooner Bobo accepts this the better.

Seriously folks. UGA had one drive stopped all day on offense. The two int’s one was a bad throw bad stafford the other was bad route.
Offense and Defense dominated. The D gave up one play all day. Folks as long as CMR is at UGA and I hope it is for as long as he wants he will never run up the score.
Offense just need to finish the drill and make sure we get td’s.
The D looked much better today with plenty of pressure at the correct times.
Don’t worry AJ get them in the next games and don’t worry about these fools.
McCoy is the only QB in college football that I would say even compares to Stafford. Daniel and Bradford throw 50 times a game and from what I could tell today you make them throw it beyond 10 yards or with any pressure at all they are below average at best.
UGA fans stand up and be proud. Get behind this team as Miami is still reachable.

Many of these same blog posters criticized the Dawgs coaches last year when we went on to beat Vandy, UF and the remainder of our schedule. The Dawgs are making steady improvement. We had best be ready for Vandy since they are coming off a tough loss and still have everything to prove. Then, if we need motivation, watch the video of Urban and Timmy laughing it up after the LSU game. Zero character. They want to beat us in the worst way. PS I’m with Steve- what’s really pathetic is people who think they know more than our coaches, even when we win handily, and are unable to enjoy a hard-earned W. Check out the records of each coach and ask yourself if you could do better in the SEC? We should all thank our Higher Power every day that we have number 7, number 24, If you want perfection instead of an overwhelming winning record and week to week improvement, maybe you should go back to your fantasy world for awhile. Me, I’ll take an ugly win any day. I would hate to be the son of someone who complains bitterly about a WIN and a top 10 ranking and a good shot at the SEC title and the BCS game! I mean, come on…

That being said I think we are just beginning to see his awakening this season. And by the way the o-line pass protected well today.

Bobo’s play calling really sucked. If at first you don’t succeed , try something else. This was an ugly win for a team with such offensive capabilities , I wonder how much such an ugly performance hurts in recruiting. Don’t blame Stafford for dropped passes and poor play calling. Why not establish the run before the pass seems to me we have a couple of pretty good ruing backs. Richt take control of this team or it will look disastrous in Jax.

The outcome of that game was never in doubt. the “experts” complaining here have some valid points but it was a solid SEC win over a team that has killed us two years in a row, It could have easily been a blowout but as is often the case Georgia stumbled just enough to let an inferior team to hang around. First the good stuff, The offense moved the ball at will against a very good defense. Did any of you watch the Florida/Tennessee game. The vaunted Gators did not have anywhere near the offensive success Georgia achieved against the Vols. I am totally on board with the fade critics, its the stupidest play in football. Particularly in Georgia”s case because in the red zone with Stafford’s cannon arm it makes so much more sense to let receivers come open and let him rifle it in there (such as Massaquoi’s TD). And what is with the assinine spin-around-no-look-passes. Richt and Bobo need to get a grasp on the fact when you have really good players, you don’t need to trick the other team. You just keep it basic and let your superior players make plays. The defense was very good except the secondary. I have no idea what it is they are doing from a scheme prospective. On Tenn second TD drive they converted a 1st down when GA rushed three and dropped 8 guys in coverage. Still there was a receiver wide open in the middle. Do the math…8 defenders, 5 receivers, how can anyone be wide open?? And Evans..he may be the worst cover corner in the history of the sport. His nickname should be “Toast” because he gets burned every single week. Anyway, there was far more good than bad today. Maybe some lessons will be learned and adjustments made. For you doom and gloom guys, lighten up. Some of the teams coming up are not as formidable as you think they are. Georgia is every bit as good as anyone in the league. That includes Alabama who played a perfect half against the Dawgs when they played as poorly as they possibly could. Good things are ahead.

TEAM vols ran the football for 1 damn yard. I knew you would not put your signature with the 2,235 to fire Fulmer. You have been quite clear on that, forever.
General Neyland, I find your comment that Coach Phillip Fulmer has not done anything in 8 years in a row, BS coming from you when you have steadfastly remained FOS on this very point of mine.
And, while we are on the topic :
Who in the Hell was that who punched Knowshon Moreno in the ribs after he tackled him tonight ?

UGA’s bread-and-butter last year was Moreno running behind left tackle (Sturdivant). Now, they’re playing their 4th-best choice at left tackle. Sturdivant, then Kiante Tripp, then Vince Vance have all gone down. It’s impressive for them to have any success running the football. Looks like K. Tripp will be called back to the O-line…

Gardner-Webb 10-7 against Georgia Tech. What a load of hogwash.
That’s the same Gardner-Webb who gave up 49 points to Sam Houston State just the week before last.
Texas has the worst Passing Defense in the United States of America. They piled onto that record already NOT one of the top 100 Passing Defenses in the nation being torched for 400 yards passing today.
The Big XII does NOT play DEFENSE.
They never have.
Speaking of playing cupcakes like Oklahoma had, and this blog saying they looked good, Missouri was exposed today too.
How far is Missouri Falling, losing to that lousy Oklahoma State we destroyed 35-14 to begin last season ?
And, horrid Nebraska ?
There are Six (6) Big XII teams NOT RANKED in the BCS Top 50.
Don’t tell me how great these Big XII teams are. I have seen this for years and years now. Hype from a block of voters voting for their teams while they play ONLY CUPCAKE CITY.
Then, the Big XII loses every big game, every bowl game, every BCS bowl game and every BCS Mythical National Championship Game.

Blair Walsh will get a lot more respect when he gets older and can consistently kick-off like his first few today, and kicks a lot less like the kickoff returned to mid-field because he didn’t make it to the 15-yard line.

I hope it doesn’t take another loss to get the Dawgs focused. Yes, they won. Yes, they won ugly. But there are moments when they make more mental errors than an 85 lb. kids’ team. For all their athletic talent, and they have a lot, the Dawgs simply lose focus too easily to beat at the top teams.
Having said that, if the Dawgs do become a focused, determined team - like the homestretch last season - they can win the SEC title.

I can’t tell if all the negative comments against The Dawgs play is from UGA Fans or UT & UF imposters but the fact is we opened up a can of WHUPAZZ on UT. UT Offense was improved over their performance against Auburn & No Ill but is very weak. UT Defense is good.
Bottomline; We beat UT on both sides in a game where the score could easily have been 12 to 18 points higher for The Dawgs.
Not this time Mr. Fulmer………..Not this time.

3 times we had the ball first and goal on the 6. Three times we kicked field goals. This has to stop. D played awesome.
Note to Bobo: You have one of the nations best running backs in the country. No need to get cute with all the fades and naked bootlegs. You are going to get Stafford killed.
Note to Martinez: I cringe when every time #3 Brian Evans comes in the game. I would throw at him everytime.

Dawgs, the fade pass in the red zone needs to fade off the pages of your playbook. I can’t think what to say about the 10 penalties. We must remember that UT has a VERY good defense, so I am not that surprised we had to rely on field goals most of the game. Btw, isn’t it nice to have such a reliable field goal kicker!
If we don’t correct the stupid penalties, I don’t think we will beat Fl or LSU. Sure was nice to see that 4th qtr drive when we just drove it down their throats and CRUSHED THEIR FACES! WOOF WOOF!

After Bama game it seemed like all the Techies had a lot to say….guess we won’t be hearing much after that great win over GW. As for all the naysayer fair weather dawg fans, i love when you post because it shows what dumb asses your are. You probably were on here last year after the UT game saying we wouldn’t win another game. Winning in college football is about the long season not just any one game. You’ve been watching way too much ESPN.
As for the game, we certainly could play better at certain times and have better coaching/play calling as well. Personally hate the 5 WR set on the 5 yard line. Why we don’t line up power-I with a TE and FB and pitch to Moreno is frustrating. It has worked all year. Makes me wonder how much was dictated by UT def and how much by injuries.
Putting it all into perspective, the entire season is a work in progress and you have to adjust from week to week. We aren’t the only team dealing with injuries/adversity but coming together as a team to overcome adveristy is what will makes UGA a good team or great team. We’ve got the talent and the opportunity and that’s about all you can ask for. We’ve got so much ball to play it’s funny. Got to take out Vandy; don’t care how ugly or pretty - just a W. You could say the season doesn’t start until after Vandy.

What is being missed by seemly everyone is that the UT defense has been ‘very good’ all year.
They have been tough against the run and very stingy inside the red zone. This is perhaps UT’S best defense in 10 years.
Some are pointing at the ‘helmet to helmet’ personal foul as a missed call. Ok, what about ‘grabbing Green’s Jersey’ in the end zone, not once but twice that cost UGA TD’S.
It was a solid win. Bring on Vandy…

Happy with Dawg victory but…There is always a but. Breakdown by #3 on touchdown in back of end zone completely unacceptable. This young man, bless his heart, has been liability all season. Teams with championship aspirations cannot tolerate such mental carelessness. Was not satisfied at all with Dawg lack of killer instinct. Should have put Vols away early. Final score should not have been close. Going to same play with continued disastrous results, we all know the one I mean, was not only foolhardy but could have been detrimental, as in an upset defeat. If Dawgs perform like this against LSU and Auburn they will finish regular season with four, if not more, losses. If Dawgs pull Bama against angry Vandy team things could get ugly in a hurry. Oh well, just a few random thoughts, for what they are worth. GO DAWGS!

Come on people. If you’re predicting the outcome of the UGA vs UF game based on anything you saw on Saturday you’re fooling yourself. Things that didn’t work against UT may work against UF. Who knows. Yes the penalties are a concern because they are happening every Saturday. To say LSU or Florida are light years ahead of UGA is ridiculous. Been watching this stuff for a while. Mr is an incredible coach but his years as OC at Fl. St. still affect his tactical judgement in the face of patently obvious statistics. Remember fans, MR didn’t start using the toss pitch until last year-it’s now the Dog’s most effective play (Moreno is 10+ ypc on toss sweeps when Stafford is under center and less than 5 on draws and other handoffs.) They implemented the short side toss sweep for this game which was successful when Stafford was under center. If you are a stat freak, Stafford’s passing efficiency and accuracy is significantly higher under the center (because of play action/ fear of Moreno) than in the gun. The 17 play drive-all under center. Then why, pray tell, you might ask does MR/Bobo play out of the gun so much? It defies logic but obviously all those years of success with the gun at FL State influence his decisions.
He’s slowly getting there. I hope someone on staff will push this a little harder.
On defense: it appears that WM is finally aware that he has one of, or maybe the best rushing defense in the conference if not the country. he can tighten coverage and take more chances on stunts and blitz on passing downs. About Florida, Les Miles must have been watching the debates instead of pouring over the Ol’Miss/ Fla game or he forgot Glen Dorsey in the pros. If you don’t take the “OFFENSIVE” on defense against the gators. 8 or 9 up all jigglin’, then pack it in, you’re toast. Take notice, Willy

Tennessee is horrible this year period and the dawgs just didn’t get it done. Some of you say that the defense was great today but may I remind everyone that Tennessee offense is pathetic and MADE UGAs defense look good. UGA still had no pressure on the 52 yard bomb to set up Tennessees first score and Evans who looke lost when his man was left wide open for the second Tenn. score. Momass is an idiot if he thinks GOOD teams in the SEC cant blow out other teams in the SEC of lesser talent. Just Ask Fla. and Alabama if its that hard gainst good talent in UGA and LSU. UGA will get destroyed by Fla. this year and will win the east and thats why they were picked to win the east. UGAs performance against teams like SC,Alabama and even todays win is why they wont get much attention in the college football world. Both Bobo and Martinez and even our strength /conditioning coach are jokes at UGA. Well Uga will be in Tampa this year or if they dont wake up they may be in Nashville in the Music Sh1tty Bowl.

Dawgs win and dont move at all or move one spot. If UGA would had scored like it should have we would have been sitting at # 5 but nooooooooooo. CMR its time to get your butt in gear and have a heart to heart with your coaching staff. We are an absolute joke and becoming a laughing stock in he collge football world. I guess because we held UT to 1 yard rushing and “the ohio state buckeyes” held Purdue to 298 yards in offense, we suck. I guess because the SEC won the last two BCS championships against “the ohio state buckeyes” we suck.
I am proud that UGA beat UT. That is something we haven’t done in two years.

Here, let me put this in terms you can understand moron. Michigan lost to Toledo yesterday, so that must mean that Ohio State is the worst team in the history of college football. That is about what your logic seems to be with Garnder Webb.
Also, can you remind how that USC game went for you guys? You are talking a lot of crap for a team that got annihilated by a USC team that in turn lost to an unranked Oregon State team. Hmmm, Penn State beat Oregon State so it looks like Penn State might hang 100 on you bunch of losers.

It may make you feel better that the final difference was only 11 points, but to the voters, it was 31-0. Any opportunity for a BCS title shot is cooked. The only impact game remaining for the Dawgs is UF, and even a win in Jax won’t boost UGA enough in the polls. Winning out will not be enough, Winning the SEC will not be enough. The opportunities to make a move in the polls are fast passing the Dawgs by. I just don’t understand the lack of a sense of urgency with this team. There may not be a more talented UGA team under Richt, but they’ve underachieved so far.

I have a question. Tommy, and Bobby Bowden along with Mark Richt use religion in their recruiting more than any other coaches in America—besides BYU and Liberty—and YET only Mark Richt’s highly rated recruits seem to be able to perform at a very high level. Is it possible that there is something about the area around Athens that makes it more conducive to spirituality and toughness??
Tommy Bowden’s offensive coordinator—Rob Spence—said after win last year that he wasn’t nervous about outcome because “the result was pre-ordained”. Now if that is actually true and that God’s plan includes the pre-ordination of football games—WHY do we pay coaches MILLIONS of dollars to be head coaches when results are already mandated?? Isn’t that silly?? You could have Jim Bakker coaching your team and it wouldn’t matter. Would also like to know why God’s plan tends to work against Tommy so often??
Well, Maybe God doesn’t care about football games and just lets the best team win most of the time. Of course that still doesn’t explain why Tommy loses even with the better talent.
In closing, I have NO idea what Tommy said to C J Spiller to get him to leave the state of Florida, BUT if it had something to do with who has the best religious environment, then I must sadly say the correlation between religious environments and successful football programs can often be lacking.

We are the national champs, it does not matter what the polls say. You hicks might as well stop playing now. We will beat UGAY, the UF Gaytors, the LSU inbred tigers, and the Alabama redneck tide if you guys were only man enough to play us.

Chip,
Why does the AJC us the headline “Dogs stay put in AP poll” when the AP poll has no bearing on the BCS???? Why dont they use “Dogs move up one spot is Coaches poll”???? Is kinda using “Dogs lose turnover battle” instead of “Dogs dominate TN”.

t - bone dawg….. do you fully understand what the meaning of fan is and how its defined? When a person attends the ball games , buys tickets, purchase college magnets and etc. is he or she not supporting there team as well no matter if they are or not happy with the results? When a team makes a statement in a game they are supported and praised but when they play lousy they are still supported but criticized, do you not think fans have a right to do that? Particulary when a problem is evident and continues to happen over and over again such as horrible play calling or not making defensive adjustments in time to stop the bleeding. Fans support and pay a lot of money to watch their teams perform and coaches perform as well. Yes some fans may get a little harsh and some fans see the Emperors new clothes but both are just as passionate to see the Dawgs do well. So there is a balance here just like anything else that works in the world. There is always pros and cons and the best pro of all, no matter what, we all are still dawg fans.

Dawg Nation,
Relax about our ranking. If we win the next three games (Vandy, LSU & UF)and are not very highly ranked THEN we will ALL have a justified reason to complain.
madawg. I also live in Florida and can backup your comments. DAWG NATION - The Gators are saying they are going to beat us by 40 or 50 points. Good - the setup is PERFECT for us. They have a week off before they play UK. Then The DAWGS come to JAX to GIG SOME GATORS.
Lastly (and of least importance) The Ohio State Buckeyes is a phoney - he’s a UF Fan who makes up stats to incite.

Chip- By hanging onto the bumper by the fingernails means hanging onto the bumper by the fingernails. UGA is technically in the same vehicle as Vandy and UF. This weekend UGA and Vandy will swipe the other off the bumper and still hang on. But UF is clearly in the drivers seat with the win in the swamp. Upups still have to win at Jacksonille and Baton Rouge. That was a huge win (romp) in the swamp.

Is it true that those 106,000 people at Neyland Stadium are not season ticket holders, but rather an inbred family reunion??
Has anyone else questioned how U Cheat has been able to get athletes from all over the country(BLACK athletes!!) to a region and city that resemble a movie set for the remake of Deliverance?? And how has Phil Fulmer been able to avoid major cardiac bypass surgery while spending most of his non-coaching life at a McDonald’s. Even Johnny Majors has gone on the offensive against this glutton. You would have thought U Cheat would have changed its colors to all black to help Fat Phil look like something resembling a coach— I know I Know!! He is skinner than Cheeseburger Charlie The Fridge, and the Grade B Movie Villian at Kansas, but besides those 2 slops the man is definitely the Porker of the Profession!!

BCS Rankings come out in 6 days now on Sunday. Here they are as of today :
Alabama is 2, Florida is 8, UGA is 10, LSU is 17, Vanderbilt is 23, South Carolina 37, Auburn 39, Kentucky 43, Arkansas 51, Ole Miss 54, Mississippi State 82 and Tennessee vols 92.
vols are the worst football team in The SEC.

In the BCS Rankings to come out Sunday.
http://www.CollegeBCS.com
Alabama plays the vols on the 25th this month at Neyland Stadium.
Coach Richt has played Tennessee 8 times, and Won 5 Losing only 3.
Phil Steele picked South Carolina to be better than the vols this season. I said South Carolina would be 9-4.
UGA Total Defense is Number 15.
UGA Total Offense Number 23. UGA Turnover Margin Number 55. UGA in sacks allowed Number 33, and in sacks of opposing Quarterbacks we are Number 38.
vols are Number 104 in Total Offense. vols are Number 43 in Sacks Allowed and Number 78 in sacks of opposing Quarterbacks. Fulmer is also Number 108 in Scoring Offense, Number 111 in Punting, Number 101 in Passing Efficiency, Number 89 in Rushing Offense, Number 93 in Passing Offense, and Number 108 in Scoring Offense.
Who is the worst football team in The SEC on the eve of the 1st BCS Rankings ?
Duh.
Mississippi State faces off against the vols next. In the balance will be who has the worst football program in The SEC for the 1st Official Release of the BCS Rankings 2008-2009. Mississippi State’s win over Vanderbilt Saturday is a good turn around for Sylvester Croom, while the vols still have zero wins in The SEC.
Vanderbilt is our Homecoming Game Saturday, and they do a number of areas very well. Intramural Vandie can run the football; they can sack their opposing Quarterbacks, they are very good at Punt Returns, they don’t turn the ball over but do take away turnovers, and they do not give up many points as a result.
Intramural Vandie is a much better-coached football team than the vols. Vandie is a Ranked Team, Number 23 in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll and Number 22 in The AP Poll.
The Reality of this TEAM has finally hit 2,374 vols’ fans, but not General Neyland.

Where are all the fake handles on all the Tech fans now ?
Huh ?
Georgia Tech is NOT RANKED.
UGA, of course is Number 9 in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, Number 9 in the Harris Poll and Number 10 in the AP Poll.
Georgia Tech is not in the Top 29 of any Poll.
10-7 Gardner-Webb.
UGA is Number 15 in Total Defense and Number 23 in Total Offense. This against SoS Number 1 for UGA.
Tech is Number 53 in Total Offense because Tech is Number 111 in Passing Offense. This despite the fact that Tech’s SoS is ALSO NOT IN THE TOP 25, while UGA’s SoS is The Number 2 toughest in the nation.
In other BCS Polls, Georgia Tech is Number 29 in the Seattle Times Anderson-Hester Poll and Number 26 in the Wes Colley Unbiased Poll, and thus Georgia Tech is NOT RANKED IN THE BCS POLL.

Fellow Dawgs and I am only talking to fellow Dawg Fans, We are improving each week and will be fine. As some have said you can’t judge how a team will perform from week to week. As for the Florida game, that is still 3 games away, we have to be concerned with Vandy only at this point. As for those fade patterns Stafford audibled into two of those so he probably wanted to work on his touch.
Hopefully we won’t see that play again for awhile. The only things that concern me at this point are the penalties, we did great in 1st half with 2, but then had 9 in the 2nd half that points to a loss of concentration/focus. I believe losing Vance on the OL and putting in the true freshman Glenn and moving Boling out to left tackle had a lot to do with that. The other thing that concerns me is the injuries on the OL have prevented them from completely jelling. It looks like some of the concerns on the D have been solved but we still need to mix up the schemes better, a few of you have called out Bryan Evans well I have been watching him for 3 years now and he was better as a freshman than he is now. What I have noticed is he is better in one on one coverage vs zone, Miller seems to be better in the zone coverage but not as good one on one because of his height. BTW Evans happens to be the fastest player on the team. IMHO giving such big cushions to the receivers, poor safety and LB play in zone pass coverage has led to a lot of our problems. We played a lot less zone against Tennessee and except for a couple of breakdowns we shut them down. Anyway we are getting better and with all the injuries just think where we would be if we didn’t have all that depth on the Offensive and Defensive lines.

I would have to agree with UT Grad 1960 way up there on the penalty reviews. Especially when they will determine the outcome of the game. Why not? If you are reviewing fumbles, catches etc. Pass interference, face mask, late hits, helment to helment hits. Make sure it is what it is. How can the refs get upset about that? You are already questioning their calls on the regular plays.
Chip, sure there were things that didn’t look so good but over all the game was never in doubt. After all the problem with UT wasn’t the defense, they are one of the best in the country and we pretty much took care of that. Stafford getting better every single game. Can’t keep dropping the wide open TD’s though.

USC is a 44 point favorite this weekend in conference play. 44 points in conference play?
This is just another example of how weak the Pac 10 is in the middle and bottom of their conference.
USC should not play in the national title game if there are 2 teams with 1 loss or better, given their soft schedule.
Can any Dawg fan remember UGA being a 40+ point favorite against an SEC opponent in the last 20, 30, 40 years?? Has any SEC ever been a 40 plus point favorite against another?
UGA and USC both were ranked at the very top pre-season and both are currently top 10 teams… UGA will not be much more than a 2 touchdown favorite in ANY conference game they play this year and most will be 10 points or less.
A 6 touchdown favorite in conference play? If USC makes the national title game it will be a travesty for college football.

I am amazed by the mentality (or lack there of) shown by some so-called “fans.” The Dogs convincingly beat a tough, SEC football team - period!! That is all that matters. Some of these complaining idiots have no idea just how hard that is to do. Did we play perfectly? No. Did we make some errors? Yes. Was the outcome of the game ever in doubt - not when we dominate up front, put together numerous long drives, have a 310 yard passer and no sacks,a 101 yard rusher (against a strong defensive front) and one more thing some people forget: We played with multiple 1st string players out with injuries. Appreciate that and quit your complaining!

Yes, who would want a QB that just completed 70% of his passes against a good TN defense and he is the only QB in all the ones that you have mentioned that has won 12 of his last 13 games (IN THE SEC!!). Obviously, you know more than all the GM’s and scouts in the NFL, so I’m sure that Stafford will go undrafted.

Puppies,
Florida has a good team and it will be a battle. You are giving UGA no chance to win and that is fine… but if UGA does win the game and the SEC East for the fourth time under Richt… you will tell us how FL isn’t that good a team and that we haven’t won a national title in a while.
Didn’t you think the EXACT same thing last year after the UGA TN game. Florida was going to kill us remember?

I learned a long time ago that you can’t predict who will beat who solely on common opponents. Each team will set their game plans based on who they are playing week in and week out. UGA can and probably will beat the remaining teams on their schedule if 1) we don’t have any more damn injuries and 2) stop making so many penalties. UGA’s gonna be allright folks! GATA Dawgs!

That was a huge, physical win that the Dawgs needed. Bama whooped us on both lines and the Dawgs did the same thing to UT. That was the most physical game UGA has played all season. Who cares what the damn final score was? UGA dominated all aspects of that game.
And the loss of Vince Vance is not good but Boling was solid at LT. Even with the injury situation, the OL still has a lot of talent.
Moreno rushed for over 100 yds. against the Vols. 1st time that has happened all year against UT. Even the vaulted UF offense backs couldn’t do it. And UGA scored the 1st rushing TD against UT in 16 qtrs. Again, UF couldn’t do it.
LSU did not deserve to be in the top 5. Who had they played to that point? Auburn? Florida exposed some huge weaknesses. I hope the Dawgs were paying attention!
The Carolina win is looking even bigger now. Carolina is 5-2 and is starting to click on offense. Carolina has a legit shot to knock off LSU on Sat. night!
How does USC move up so much? This is the same USC team that has one loss……one loss to Oregon State.

no nonsense, I certainly never question your loyalty to the Dawgs, its obviously pretty high. It’s your logic and rationale that I question, but that’s just my opinion.
How anyone can watch the replay of the game and still categorize it as an awful playcalling just blows me away. Dumbfounded to figure that out. In fact everyone should just wait to comment till after watching the replay, sans the emotions. A dropped TD and a ref mistake (and absolutely no other play calling difference) would have been 34 points, and I don’t believe for one second that we would hear a fraction of this complaining. That might have been the best layed out, most balance and varied offensive game plan I have seen us run in 2 years.
Big dawg is exactly right, you can clearly see Stafford walk up and audible into those fades on at least 2 of them, and frankly a better pass and its there. Tn did not have them defended well.
The first down play call on that goal to go was a sweep. You see Moreno and Southerland going left , and the QB just plain screwed up and went the wrong way. You never know, but it looked to me like that had a chance to score. I’ve seen a few say we dont sweep enough, we did, all day long.
