UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

‘Dry heat’ every bit as hot

Greetings from the press box at Sun Devil Stadium, which is fully enclosed and air-conditioned and I am very happy about that.

You’ve probably heard all you want to hear about the desert heat out here in Tempe, where Georgia and Arizona State will meet in a rare regular-season intersectional clash. And I have to. But just for observation purposes, I must tell you that I sweated just as much, maybe even more, on my three-block walk from the parking lot up a steep hill to the media entrance at the stadium. It was 99 degrees on the nose at the time. I know because I checked weather.com while wiping off sweat after reaching the press box.

Dry heat my elbow.

Anyway, the sun has set considerably since then which has left almost the entire field — and all of Georgia’s sideline — in the shade. Don’t know if that will provide any relief or not. And also according to weather.com, the temperature will only be about three degrees cooler in the second half, not the 11 or 12 degrees CMR said he had heard about.

The first thing I’ll be looking for is how Georgia lines up on the offensive line. Then, of course, whether its defense is able to get any pressure on Rudy Carpenter. Let me know what you’re seeing and hearing on the ABC telecast, too. I can’t hear it in here where I am.

But the air conditioning sure does feel good!

UPDATES THROUGHOUT THE GAME.

UPDATE NO. 1

If I didn’t miss something the O-line lined up like this: LT Vance, LG Davis, C Jones, RG Boling, RT Anderson.

They look all right until the last possession when they allowed a sack. That’s five in the last two games… .

QB Matthew Stafford not looking very sharp. Overthrew A.J. Green on a fly pattern deep on the first play of the game and missed a couple others since… .

Defense keeping Sun Devils underneath them so far. Not much pressure on Carpenter.

UPDATE NO. 2

Georgia said it wanted to get A.J. Green more involved and that’s definitely been the case so far. Green in the first quarter has already matched last week’s career-high of three catches. Stafford’s missed him deep twice, too… .

End of first, Georgia threatening first and goal on the eight.

UPDATE NO. 3

GEORGIA 14, ASU 0

Sorry just getting back. Had some story-writing issues there for a second… .

So how about that Knowshon Moreno run. Moreno scored from nine-yards out to put the Dogs up 7-0. He left the turf and leapt from the 4-yard line to get into the end zone. Add that one to the Moreno highlight reel.

Since then Georgia walk-on Zach Renner *blocked a punt which *Mohamed Massaquoi recovered at the ASU 43. But the Dogs couldn’t make anything of it… .

No problem as Marcus Dowtin forced a fumble on teh subsequent possession, which Jeremy Lomax recovered. Moreno scored his second TD of the day, this time from a yard out… .

ASU on the move now thanks to multiple defensive penalties on Georgia.

UPDATE NO. 4

GEORGIA 21, ASU 3

Penalties again hurting Georgia’s defensive efforts. A pair of personal foul calls against the Dogs — the second one highly technical — helped the Devils sustain a 75-yard scoring drive for a short field goal. The first was a somewhat late push of quarterback Rudy Carpenter by DE Jarius Wynn. Judgement call but didn’t seem bad…

Then Dogs called for PF on 49-yard FG by ASU because Demiko Goodman dove forward trying to block it and landed on the pile. That’s a PF and auto first down… .

Didn’t really matter. Devils just kicked another field goal… .

Dogs came right back 70 yards in five plays. Stafford to Green did most of the work… . They hook up for TD. Green 7 catches for 150.

HALFTIME.

THAT, MY FRIENDS, WAS AN UNWISE CALL

Third and one, you have your opponent on its heels, two plays to get a yard. Instead of running a lead play to your Heisman Trophy Candidate tailback you try to trick your opponent with some no-look quick pitch and Stafford flipped it high and hard like he was playing in the backyard… .

Dogs fortunate to recover the errant lateral and Devils are able to stay in the game.

Several Things I noticed tonight: Pac 10 Officials are by far the worst in NCAA. That crew should never be allowed at any game! UGA Special Teams SUCK!!! They couldn’t even execute a simple 4th & 15 Punt. A Time out and a penalty to punt the ball. Bad Kick Off coverage and Blair Walsh can’t kick it to at least the 10. POOR COACHING!! CMR doesn’t understand that the polls want touchdowns not 19 yard FG’s. FG’s cause losses in big games…good thing ASU is not good.

Congrats Dawgs! The O Line looked good against ASU. Our line has yet to gel and mature, and we easily beat ASU. We traveled across the country (just like USC) and we beat a team that was ranked in the top 20 last week. (Unlike USC who beat a HORRIBLE Virginia team). We played ball control offense and blew our opponent out. It could have been worse…a lot worse.

Our offense needs to be accurate and efficient against Alabama’s defense. Our D will have to generate a pass rush against an SEC O Line again. I’m not sure our D is as good as it looked tonight.

OK, all of you losers who have to play Georgia sometime this season go ahead and talk all of your trash now because you won’t be saying too much after the Dawgs kick the crap out of all of you wanna be’s.

Maybe this will keep UF from jumping past the Dawgs.

Thanks Ga Tech Fan. That was a great game for your team today as well. It looks like CPJ has your team on the right track. I pull for the jackets every day of the fall except for one!!

Florida will not jump UGA. They beat a week Tenn team who got beat by UCLA who got demolished by a Moutain West team. You do the match. Quality of wins in favor of UGA at this point. But once the BCS starts to tally points for and against, etc, then you might have a problem. But your offense did show improvement and that AJ Greene kid is for real!! WOW! Big time catches all night long.

My imposter sounded like me the first sentece, I thought I had posted when I threw the laptop across the room to get into the game. But when the jerkwad brings up my Mom who has been dead for fifteen years, well I got a problem with that. I tell you what, you SOB, you bring my deceased mother into this, I will give you my address, anything you want. I want to give you the beating you deserve. My name is Mark Symms. I live in Augusta Georgia. Zip is 30904. I am in the phone book. You can find me. Any day, any time. I will take a vaction day at work and gather a group to watch me kick your a$$. You can call me names, you mention my dead Mother, I will make you regret your name, that no one knows.

Chip this is the BS we are tired of, cant you see it?

Someone asked if Fl would pass UGA in the polls. I wouldn’t doubt it. If UGA keeps winning, the polls won’t matter.

I hate it that UGA must win every game to even have a shot at the NC. I don’t think UGA has a shot with one loss even if they win the SEC championship. They certainly won’t do as LSU did last year and leap several spots in the polls.

WENT BACK AND FORTH WITH THE LSU AUBURN GAME. WE WILL HAVE TO PLAY WITH A LOT MORE CONVICTION WHEN WE FACE THEM. RIGHT NOW THEY ARE BOTH AHEAD OF US WITH INTENSITY. AND DID YOU SEE FLORIDA TODAY LOOKS LIKE THEY FINALLY HAVE COME UP WITH A RUNNING GAME. POOR TENNESSEE WHAT A LONG SEASON THIS WILL BE. AND TO THINK THAT BARRY KID COULD BE PLAYING WITH UGA.

Chip, the same poser is hijacking the blog. Your bosses can solve this problem. But they are wimps.

This was a quietly dominant performance. It was a very well-played game, except for the penalties. Some can be excused as phantom calls, but there were others that slowed the Dawgs down.

Cuz,

The best thing to do is be yourself and ignore the imposter. Write to the AJC about fixing it. We can tell the difference between the real Cuz and the imposter. Don’t give him what wants by talking about him.

My son is a total iar, do I sound dead to you. He is seeing a “halfie’ named Casey-Tiffany, and knows I disapprove of this sinful relationship. He hits and swears at his mamma terribly, please make him stop (sniff) as I am all battered and bruised from him. I am also taking care of his younger brother, who has ALDD, and cant take care of Two children anymore. Cuz, stop with the computer, and take care of your responsibilities. Mamma loves you.
