UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Does Spurrier strike fear in Dogs?

With South Carolina’s 16-12 win over Georgia in Sanford Stadium last season, coach Steve Spurrier improved to 12-3 against the Bulldogs in his head coaching career. That’s a fairly gaudy .800 winning percentage.

But obviously Spurrier hasn’t been able to work much magic since he’s been with the Gamecocks. They slipped to 6-6 and missed a bowl game last year and were 15-10 his first two seasons.

Oddly enough, offense has been South Carolina’s biggest shortcoming under Spurrier. Their defenses have been great but it seems every season they’ve been unsettled at quarterback and inconsistent on offense. Spurrier was actually asked this week by AP writer Rick Scoppe if he thought the modern-day offensive game had passed him by. I thought Spurrier was fairly gracious in the way he answered that.

“The way we play offense you’d say that,” he said. “But there’s a lot of teams sputtering a lot now on offense Two years ago our offense was pretty good, but it ain’t been good enough. When I had a bunch of guys running around scoring a bunch of points I was a real good coach. Right now I don’t have a bunch of guys scoring a whole lot of points and I’m not a good coach. That’s just the way life is and I accept it. I have no problem with the complaints.”

So what do you Bulldogs fans think? For you, is Spurrier stilled the feared “Evil Genius” that has terrorized Georgia for so many years? Will he ever be able to do at South Carolina what he did at Florida? Is it just a Georgia thing for him?

Meanwhile, here’s a look at some other stories

Might Garcia play vs. Dogs?

According to the Columbia State newspaper there is at least an outside chance the Bulldogs could see redshirt freshman quarterback Stephen Garcia on Saturday. Until the middle of this week, the talk had been of quarterbacks Chris Smelley and Tommy Beecher sharing snaps against Georgia. But the State quotes Beecher as saying he hasn’t been getting much work with the first team offense but Garcia has. Garcia, you may recall, was a four-star recruit out of Tampa but was suspended indefinitely after several run-ins with the law. National TV against No. 2-ranked Georgia in a rivalry game would be one heck of a way to get started.

Devils: Bring on Georgia

An interesting sidebar developing out in Tempe. Seems some of Arizona State’s fans didn’t like Chick-fil-A breaking out “Bring On Georgia” signs during the Sun Devils’ game against Stanford last weekend, especially when they learned Chick-fil-A is headquartered in Atlanta. As it turns out it was merely the local operators out there trying to drum up enthusiasm and not a grand conspiracy to fire up Georgia.

Lumpkin to play for Packers

It looks like former Bulldog tailback Kregg Lumpkin has landed on his feet in Green Bay. An undrafted free agent after an injury-marred career at Georgia, Lumpkin made the Packers’ roster and now is running first team after injuries to Green Bay’s top two running backs. The hope out there is that Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson may get back. But Lump and his coaches believe he’s ready if needed.

Dogs fall to 8th in merchandising

Alan Thomas, Georgia’s marketing and promotions czar, told me not long ago that the Bulldogs had fallen from the top few spots nationally when it comes to merchandising. Just a few years ago Georgia was third and led all SEC schools. According to the latest figures from Collegiate Licensing Company UGA has fallen to eighth. Texas, as it has been for a while now, remains No. 1 and Florida and LSU are 3 and 4, respectively. Asked about the drop, Thomas asked a rhetorical question: “What have those schools done lately that we haven’t?” That’d be win a national title, of course.

To hell with Darth Visor!!! Chip is Garcia a pocket passer or a scrambling type QB? Spurrier is so desperate to beat the Dawgs he will probably start Garcia. The Dawgs have to stop the run on Saturday and let whoever will be at QB throw it to beat us which will be hard against our secondary.

Oh god. Its happening. The media is ALREADY pimping a USC-OSU rematch and the first one hasn’t even been played yet:

http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=848896

I know its a long season and Georgia just needs to worry about its own business, but this is a real concern if (I said IF haters) Georgia keeps winning. Hear me now and believe me later folks. The media will be kicking and screaming for an OSU-USC BCS title game until they get their way. Anything less than a perfect season may not be enough for the Dawgs. Despite all this talk about an impossible schedule, you can bet the media will be singing a different tune if their darling Buckeyes and USC have similar records to the Dawgs. There is no doubt about it. That schedule mysteriously won’t be so tough anymore. We will not have won impressively enough. The offense will be struggling. The defense will not have enough sacks. Mark Richt will have a hair out of place. They will nit and pick until they find anything they can to keep the Dawgs out. I am not at all kidding. I can see this coming from a mile away.

You heard this hear first. You’ve been warned.

Chip…any word on southerland? I don’t see how a McKinley-less hen house can upset…but I do think the O line will get a wake up call. If we continue the sloppyness w/ penalties and such then it will be closer than I hope for. Mike Bobo and Matt Stafford have come too far in the last year to let this one slip. I hope Will-Mart bring some heat too. I’d feel better going into next week with Wynn, Irvin and GENO bagging some sacks. See yall at Williams Brice

I don’t think the game has past Spurrier by. He’s a damn good coach. He just can’t recruit @ USC the way he did @ UF. South carolina has some good recruits come out of there, but the seem to want to go out of state or play for Clemson. Not bashing here, but why someone would choose to play for Bowden over Spurrier is beyond me.

You know I’ve been saying this week to my friends that if I was Spurrier I’d go with Garcia in a simplified shotgun spread attack similar to what he ran in HS. Then add in more of the regular O as each week as he learns & grows. This would be similar to what he did with Siville Newton. At this point they need playmakers & Garcia has the ability to make them with his arm & feet. I’ll be shocked if Spurrier doesn’t at least try something different strategy wise. He’ll probably have a package for all 3 QB’s play them all until something starts working or rotate them based on what play he wants to run. So far I’ve been shocked by his lack of offensive geniuses since going to SC. I left last years games saying I guess his offensive geniuses was good ole smash mouth football & tough D. On paper it looks like it should be a blow out, I doubt it will be but I expect the Dawgs to pull away late so I’ll say it’ll be something like 31 -17 UGA.

Whowritesthisstuff: Word on Brannan Southerland is that he’ll return for the Alabama game, likely on special teams only, then be full go for Tennessee after the subsequent bye week… .

PBR: To be honest I don’t know what kind of QB Garcia is. At Jefferson High in Tampa he passed for 8,081 yards and 83 TDs and rushed for 1,345 yards in three years as the starter. So it would appear more of a pocket passer… .

You may find this interesting… .

According to last week’s opening-day rosters, **Georgia had more players in the NFL (36) than any other SEC team and third-most nationally. The Bulldogs had the most tight ends (4), defensive ends (9) and place-kickers (2).

I remember when South Carolina hired Spurrier everybody thought it was only a matter of time before the nation’s top QB prospects were tripping all over themselves to get to Columbia. Hasn’t happened. Since South Carolina named Spurrier as its head coach, the most heralded QB recruits in the SEC took their services elsewhere. Georgia signed Stafford, Florida signed Tebow, and LSU signed Perriloux. The top QBs clearly weren’t interested in the ole ball coach. That had to be a blow to his ego. Spurrier has maybe had once decent recruiting class since he’s been there. That’s about it. His name alone hasn’t gotten him very far.

I agree that we will likely see Garcia and probably early. He may start him. If Spurrier is going to lose he isn’t going to do so by doing the same thing. This is an opportunity to get Garcia baptized by fire, maybe catch us off-guard and if nothing else they will try to get Garcia ready for UT and UF later in the year. He may be looking to see if there is any reason to come back for 2009 which may very well depend on whether Garcia is promising or a continuing disappointment.

If we can put up points early, and there is no reason why we shouldn’t, it’ll be a long day for USC.

Good luck to Lump up on the frozen tundra. He is a talented player that could’ve been special for but for the injuries. But like Danny Ware and Terrell Davis have shown, being an all-star at Georgia is not a prerequisite for success in the NFL.

Soothsayer Dawg I’ve said the same thing…If the OSU Vs USC match is a nail bitter then LOOK OUT they’ll be calling for a rematch unless the loser losses another game & there’s undefeated BCS teams. So we need SC & UT to get things going good so if we beat them it look more impressive. As much as CMR doesn’t believe in running it up for style points we might need to if the media starts calling for a OSU Vs USC rematch. Winning the each of the next 4 games by 14 or more would probably put these fears to rest espc. is OSU losses. That’s not likely to happen so let’s just take it one game at a time & win’em even if it’s by 1 point! GO DAWGS!

Soothsayer Dawg….I’m with you 100% and I didn’t even read the link…yet. There is always something wrong with GA every year in the “medias” eyes and now that they have so much influence it’s even more likley to happen. I’m a realist GA will go 11-2 at best with no shot at a title. Running the table 13-0 after the SEC Title game will not be enough either becasue then the “SEC will have had a down year”. I just chalk it up as fear. FEAR the Dawgs that’s fine, they screwed Auburn in ‘04 and they will screw GA in ‘08, if they get the chance. Sad but it almost doesn’t matter what you do on the field anymore even when you win. College Football has become somemany things in one, a beauty contest, a politcal debate, a media cash cow. Just too many variables come with College football and that’s what sucks. It’s not that you won, it’s HOW you looked doing it and that’s sad because i nthe record books the only thing that goes down is the final score, not a play by play description of the contest.

I don’t think the word “fear” in the headline is a proper usage of that word in this contexts. First of all, when it comes to the game of football, there is NOTING in the state of South Carolina that Georgia “fears”. It’s a cultural thing. When you look at the high school football games along the Georgia-South Carolina state line, when those schools cross over to play one another, Georgia schools beat SC schools consistently into the dust every year, always have and always will. These long undefeated records by GA high schools has garnered a deep seated distain in South Carolina for anything that has anything to do with Georgia football, including our beloved Dawgs. Also, these undefeated records has amassed a natural disrespect in Georgia for South Carolina football — they get no respect and never will. So, when you add Spurrier into this cultural element of South Carolina football, an ex-Florida coach that Georgia loves to hate, a better headline would have been: “Do Dogs Respect Spurrier?” The answer to that question is “NO!” and in most cases “Hell NO!” Spurrier is vehemently disdained in Georgia, and now that he is in South Carolina he gets no respect either.

What’s up with the AJC? Tony Barnart, Mark Bradley, and Chip all have pieces about Spurrier today. I know the man has caused the Dawgs problems, but this is overkill. South Carolina was a tough opponent long before Darth Visor ever thought of coaching the ‘Cocks. They would play UGA tough even if Chan Gailey was the coach. Why waste all this ink and space on Spurrier?

By Pitbull

September 11, 2008 3:11 PM | Link to this

Another thing that needs to be said is that Georgia does not consider South Carolina to even be a rival. It is just an SEC team that the Dogs must beat if they are to win the SEC.

When you go 44-14 against a team, they are good enough to know that they pose a threat. However, if you go over there ready to play and win - then you will.

Our real rivals are Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee.

We are their biggest rival and we know we need to take care of Tech to just put them in their place and shut their pie holes for another year.

I have always said that if we wanted to put Tech away for good, then we would just wipe them from the schedule. They could not financially afford to field a team if Georgia did not fill up their stadium every other year.

Soothsayer,

I read the link and can’t say I’m surprised. The media has been trying to do this kind of rematch crap for a while now, usually with Ohio State in the middle. Remember the Texas-Ohio State regular season games? All we ever heard was that those 2 could meet in the BCS title game later that year. This is nothing new.

I’m sick to death of hearing that Ohio State might get slighted because “perception becomes reality”. The opposite is true. The “reality” is that the Buckeyes got thumped in the last 2 BCS championship games. The “perception” is that somehow they are still a legitimate title contender despite this.

And for all you stat lovers, here’s one: the Buckeyes finished last season with the #1 defense in college football. Then they went and took their annual beating at the hands of the SEC champion. Padding your numbers on the likes of Minnesota, Indiana, Northwestern, etc. only takes you so far.

Sometimes we get serious and today is one of those days. I am not intending to take the fun away. I just attempting to remind folks of what is important. We all experience situations that change our lives. A former UGA graduate and cheerleader, LT Noah Harris, was killed in Iraq in June, 2005. He joined the UGA ROTC program after the terriorist attacks 2001. His parents have written a book about him and his dedication to duty titled Simple American which is being released today in Ellijay. Spurrier hasn’t struck fear in me for at least 8 years now, but his defensive coordinators? That’s a different story. He also seems to find good ones.

I actually think the game has passed him by, just like the offensive game has passed Bobby Bowden by. When Spurrier arrived at UF, he found an I-formation, run-defense league not far removed from the days of Herschel, Bo Jackson, and Emmitt Smith. Many of the DBs were inferior pass defenders but tough run defenders. He took his blue chip qbs and blue chip wideouts and sent them out all over the place to run wild in overmatched secondaries. Not anymore. Nowadays, even on successful pass plays you rarely see much separation between wideouts and dbs. Adapt or perish. I don’t think he knows any other way.

BREAKING NEWS & PRACTICE UPDATE

This just in: At least seven S. Carolina football players were involved in some sort of altercation with non-players at a university facility on campus. Here’s a link… .

Just met with Richt. Said DE Rod Battle (neck) and WR Kenneth Harris (ankle) are questionable to doubtful for Saturday’s game… .

Said Knowshon Moreno needs much more than the 14 touches he got vs. Gamecocks last year. “That wasn’t good,” he said. Ultimately 18-25 is about what they’re looking for…

Having tough time getting travel roster down to 70. ” There has been a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth,” CMR said.

That’s it for now.

Soothsayer Dawg and the Dawg Nation, fear not.

If USC beats OSU; USC fans certainly WILL NOT be on the rematch band wagon.

If we can manage to make it to the show and UGA can stay unbeaten, bring it on.

Win or lose, We want to play the best, and I don’t think that will be OSU.

If the Dawgs earn it I think all Trojan fans would agree, they should play in the game.

Hey Gator Chomp,

Why do you Gator losers only go back 19 years when these two teams have been playing each other since 1930 or so? Becasue the Gators did not play football until 1990. Quit showing your ignorance by posting here and go somewhere where people care what you have to say, which, I would guess is not many places.

Oh and by the way, tell Tebow to come out to midfield and shake some hands this year when the Gators go down in Jax again this year. It is not very good sportsmanship to stand on the sidelines an cry. Looks a little silly.

Well for starters, let me say that people need to get this notion out of their brain that Vanderbuilt is a cream puff football team. They have won games against South Carolina, UGA, Tennessee, and have taken Florida to the wire a few times. Also, I’m getting sick and tired of people throwing out statistics like ” Spurrier is 12-3 vs. UGA” to make their point. The fact of the matter is that he was 6-0 vs. Ray Goof and 4-1 vs. Jim Donnan. Against Mark Richt he’s 2-2( 1-2 vs. Richt since he’s been at SC including an 18-0 shut up in Columbia). I can assure you that Spurrier isn’t in Mark Richt’s head in the slightest. The Dawgs played like crap last year which is why they lost. 16-12 is hardly a convincing victory on “The Ole’ Ball Coach’s” part.As for this year, I don’t think the Dawgs should underestimate the Gamecocks b/c I think they will get their best shot from them. But I also don’t think they need to OVERestimate them either. If the Dawgs give them their best shot, they will win by at least 10 points.

When he gets a QB then I’ll consider being concerned, but until he does he’s just another coach doing his best. The reason he dominated the Dawgs at good ole FU was because he owned the state of Florida and got whoever he set his sights on and others throughout the country. If he were at Ole FU again he’d have the access that Urbane has. Similarly the reason Bobby Bowden hasn’t done so well in the last ten years is that he doesn’t rule Fl. any more, he shares the state with UCF and USF at Tampa, Miami and FU.

This posting is a little off the subject. I was searching for news on the weather and went by ESPN only to see the Dawgs and Richt film clips of the Central Michigan game. Rome of Rome is Burning played the clips of Knowshon and printed Richt’s mild quote about ESPN missing a great play when Knowshon vaulted the player. Rome stated that the play by a superior athlete over a cup-cake school was not worthy of Richt “PIMPING” his player for the Heisman Trophy!

When is someone going to kick this rogue, supposedly sports network into their place. He played the clip twice while he was denigrating our coach, player and University. When does the slander stop? Obviously this is their answer to the public outrage over the favoritism shown their candidate from OSU in deference to Knowshon. It sounds like the first knee-jerk after it was announced that “Beanie”, ESPN’s candidate, wouldn’t be probable for the USC game thereby taking him out of the Heisman race.

Shame on ESPN and anyone that would tolerate the crap they are spewing-from disingenuous speeded up replays of UGA highlights to outright character assassination. College Presidents be aware that a “sports network” would spend it’s time to browbeat a University for their own faux pas and not ever apologize to the player. It is an affront to us all no matter what school you represent. They keep proving their bias over and over.

I ain’t through yet. I had a call out to you writers to interview past writers for ESPN to “out” the culture these prima donnas foment. They have been caught with their proverbial “Hand in the Cookie Jar” and now they are going to trash the coach as well as the player for making a mild statement in a news conference.

Now will you believe me that this biased group is manipulating awards and publicity for players? This is no longer an ongoing little tiff thats been around for years. This is outright YELLOW JOURNALISM to the worst degree. If the heads of that so-called network don’t move to halt this crud we are headed for a political college football “game” from which none of us will recover. Damage has been done and now this rogue self-serving outfit is looking to make it irreparable.

Back in the 60’s and 70’s Georgia dominated, perhaps even terrorized the Gators. If I remember correctly there was a game in which blistered them 50 or 52 to 0 or something like that. Coach Spurrier remembered those days. Hats off to him for the job he did at turning the Florida program around. No doubt the Gators have dominated us since he took the helm. His predecessors have not done too poorly either. And even at South Carolina he has not done too poorly against us. So, whether you like him or you don’t you still have to respect him because he is a great coach period. Yes, he is obnoxious, but he can be because he has a winning record to back it up. It is fun to play coach Spurrier whether he’s at Florida or South Carolina because when you play him, you must play well or you will pay. But Coach Richt is not only a great coach, he is a man of integrity and treats others with respect, something that cannot always be said of Coach Spurrier.

godawg- didn’t you notice that the fight report on campus involved football players ,but “no charges were filed” by police. Seems like off-campus people invaded So.Car. football players space. If that’s true, then I won’t blame them for covering up. If that happened to the Dawgs, I would like them to be congratulated for getting the trash off the campus. We will see as the facts come out, but could you imagine the damage you could do to a program already known for fighting on the football field during a game(SC and CLEM)? There would be chaos every time a UGA player went out for the evening in Athens. Hope So.Car. players are “ok” and they don’t investigate until Monday.

SOS struck fear in Goff and Donnan!SOS said the truth when he said ,there was only a couple of teams to worry about when he was winning all those SEC championships, unlike now. What nobody talks about,is he only won one SEC in his last 5 years at FL(he beat a very weak Auburn team to do that). The fact is he came along at the right time and his top competition was Gene Stallings and Phillip Fulmer in which he flat out coached the majority of the time.He would pack 8 and 9 men in the box on first down and pumpkin head would run right into it for no gain ,with great QB’s and wide receivers that would go on to the NFL.Stallings was no different!I remember them having a less than TD lead the whole second half and on 3rd and 5 and 3rd and 8 run into Fl’s 8 man front and punt it.The SEC championship game I’m talking about SOS did’nt have a first down the whole second half until last posession run a couple of trick plays got a TD and won another SEC.Last thing said during that same time he had a very bad record against Bobby Bowden, that’s because Bobby wasn’t stupid enough to just run into there 8 men fronts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Matter of fact the Evil Genius never in 11 years beat Bobby at his house!

And Spurrier didn’t do jack against Georgia last year - he can thank his defense and his defensive coaches for that ugly win.

On the ESPuke bias:

Jim Rome is an idiot savant…he is genius at stirring people up. He knows his business. He is baiting UGA fans and he wants us to respond to him.

If you are going to email…copy to ESPuke powers that be. Make sure you refer them back to the story of that interview with Richt. Let them know Rome is not accurately reporting what happened. He is actually making a story up and criticizing a coach and deigrating a university using tabloid tactics.

On another note…waiting for the UNC/Rutgers game to begin, I had the misfortune of seeing the holtz-may team talking about big matchups this weekend. Guess what? No mention of UGA-Carolina. They totally ignored the game.

I’m really tired of ESPuke. Fox is a much better alternative. I’ve started writing them asking they do more football coverage counter all that ESPuke does. I’m finding it distasteful to watch a network that is so biased.

They hear what the UGA fans are saying…and they are responding by cutting their coverage of UGA short. Screw them. Such policies will eventually alienate all the fans (except Fla., So. Cal and Ohio State). Stop watching their pregame, halftime, and post game shows. Let them know you are watching FOX.

We continue to hear the same garbage from Uga fans every year that Georgia will blow out South Carolina. Last year the Uga fans spewed out that Stafford ,T.Brown and NO SHOW Moreno would blow out the Gamecocks and have a field day. Guess What? A 16 - 12 Gamecock Victory over the BIG BAD DAWGS in BIG BAD SANFORD STADIUM. Last time in Columbia the game was closer than the score indicates. Gamecocks were inside the 1 yard line twice but kudos to the dawgs for the shut out and a good tribute to Erk Russell but still not a big blow out aas proclaimed by dawg fans. Three years ago all we heard was DJ Shockley and Company was gonna destroy the Gamecocks and it was the ole ball coach’s first game against Uga. Uga squeaked that one out 17 - 15 . A missed Extra point and a Td called back from the mysterious holding call, The Gamecocks let that one slip away. Dawg nation had barely escaped and sighed with relief. That year the Gamecocks helped Uga enter the back door to play for the SEC Conference Championship. Then BIG BAD UGA went on to the Sugar Bowl and got out played, out coached and out smarted by West Virginia. Yes I’m Worried About the BIG BAD DAWGS! NOT!!!!!!!

Chip- sorry we got off the subject. I think the only fans or teams that would have a tinge of-let’s call it apprehension instead of fear- apprehension are mostly the alums that had to endure his great coaching for so many years while the rest of us that had graduated years before simply asked “What’s wrong with the Dawgs?”. We were used to FU as the doormat in the SEC. The Big10 was the premier conference at that time although the SEC always had the greatest representation in the bowl games. The excuse by the Big10 at that time was that the bowls were down South and they had more influence in the Orange, Sugar,Cotton and Gator Bowls. Never mind that we beat the hell out of people even then. Then Charlie Pell started this passing game in the SEC and we haven’t looked back since. The old “Three Yards and a Cloud of Dust” years were disappearing. Fullback was the position everyone recruited for first. Go back to 1967-68 and look at Johnson, our fullback. He was on the front cover of SI in the Sugar Bowl coming straight at the camera. Players shoulder -to- shoulder with him were plowing forward with their chins about a foot or less off the ground, the football clung to Johnson’s body like a knot on a tree, blood evident on the hand holding the ball, his eyes turned up balefully like the epitome of the Bulldog that he was as he struggled valiantly to get that last inch; then immediately after the photo was snapped the ball squirted out and through the end zone for a touchback and Arkansas with Lou Holtz took over and beat our butts.

Spurrier had one blemish on his Heisman year put on by the Dawgs. Then when he came back to coach , he led FU out of that punishing brand of football, blew the Galen Hall years away and played Charlie Pell football. He saved the FU program from it’s doormat status with UGA with great zeal that reflected his frustration for all those years of taunting by UGA fans and others. I don’t blame the Gators for their worship of him that is similar to the worship that Mark Richt is building. But those of us that were priviledged to be in Dooley’s early years were not subjected to the beatdown he put on UGA for so many years, but we can feel the heat rise to our faces when you vent your spleens. We feel with you , but we have many beatdown years on FU in our memories that takes the pain away. However, those who came afterward were here for a National Championship while we were not and that should subtract some pain. Apprehension, yes! Fear, no. That’s what many fans feel. And it will be alleviated one-game-at-the-time starting Saturday and going through OCT.

Sic’em Dawgs!

My wife has some free-range chickens that she befriended by feeding them. Now we have 40-50 of these gamecocks in our yard that come running to her 2-3 times a day. We have tryed to protect them by letting them roost in the carport overhead(its like an attic with a 2ft opening), but some of the dumb birds are adamant to sleep in the big oak tree where they fall prey to owls. Others sleep or nest in small sanctums they find in the neighbor’s old garage or sleep close to the ground in the woods at the yard’s edge where they fall prey to raccoons, foxes(I suspicion) and I fear, bobcats. We have one hen that eats out of our hand and walks immediate to my wife’s feet. She and a few others, including a couple of roosters in their proud gamecock plumage have become pets of sorts.

Right after Big Gamecock Man’s blog, I went outside and helped a rooster go to roost by kicking him squarely IN THE BUTT!

I watched the replay last night of Carolina’s loss last week to Vandy. Several things jump out:

The Dogs has better not think they can just show up and Spurrier’s boys are just going to roll over. They may not have talent at some key skill positions, but they will dig deep and find a fire not seen yet this year. I am convinced they were looking ahead to this week. If they had executed on special teams, Vandy had no chance. The Gamecock’s defense had just stuffed Vandy’s offense and then they shanked a pathetic punt and it bounces off the leg of the return man… Vandy recovers and the momentum never shifted back.

Despite all of that, the wretched chickens have no quarterback. Unless Garcia is a miracle man, there is no way they can score enough to win… If the boys can ignore Spurrier and execute, there is no way this is even close. It would be the choke of all time if they were to lose. Dogs win in a rout 55-10… 55 is a nice number isn’t it? Richt needs to let the boys pour it on this time.

Good story Oledawg. Once upon a time I lived in Newnan, we had a strange neighbor that had moved in from California. We were pretty rural, had some acreage so we didn’t see much of each other.

He wanted to be a gengleman farmer I suppose, he had a couple horses, dogs, and a flock of those cocks that took a liking to our estate. They roosted on top of the garage door for the most part, the mess they left was shall we say, less than desirable. I spoke with him about caging his rooster and hens but didn’t make much headway. My son woke up middle of the night to see one of his horses peering at him through the window. It pretty much freaked him out until we figured out what it was. I tired of dealing with someone elses responsibility.

One morning after pulling an all nighter at work I was peacefully sleeping when the rooster’s incessant cackling finally got the best of me, kinda like Gator Chomp, annoying. Having had enough of the rooster and hens over what had been at least a six month period I grabbed the closest firearm, it happened to be a 357 loaded with hollow points. I stalked the rooster but he was a pretty smart foe, stayed between me and the house so I couldn’t get a shot at him without risking hitting the house.

He finally blinked and strutted his feathered a$$ out into the front yard. Seconds later he exploded, not enough left to pick up and make a meal of.

Moral of the story is find the lead rooster, destroy it, and the hens will go away. They never came back.

Smelly will play for a short time (maybe) and Garcia will takeover the game - Spurrier will play him more than any other QB tomorrow.

Slave,

I appreciate what you posted to that scum who apparently is a closet case. You’ll notice he hijacked oledawg, too. Don’t know if you’ll see this, but I’ll be sure to thank you again when I see you on another blog.

We’re not going to be able to stop this retard. Anybody can tell that this warped SOB isn’t me, Cuz, Zeb, or anyone else who posts regularly, but that doesn’t make it any less irksome. If you’re reading this, #sshole, I’m calling you out again. Anytime, anyplace, you human douche. My coward detector tells me you’d rather slink back under your rock, though. Pr#ck.

My boy has a nasty temper, and I used to put soap in it, then his Daddy put something a bit more “salty’ there..And he/she liked it”. Jeffrey Dahmer posters in her room, daddy would come in, pull his pants down..Spank the little runt, then say..”Now do me Son”. Really has no class, a Southener wearing No shoes to a wedding, even with his own “Snip snip gal, Cuz. Now go make your dress, wench, we gotta man picking contest Saturday. Peachtree Pavillion..Georgia Peaches. Hee Hoe.

Honey child, When you were in NY City, we shared a room at the East Side Club at 227 E 56st (212) 753-2222., remember…I was the light skin mandingo you asked to “Bottom, we then went to Chelsea Piers for a few brews at “Rawhides. You told me to come on this site to meat. Sounds familiar now, Loverboy. You said you went to GT on a tennis scholarship, but liked UGA and lived at Morris Hall, and worked at a Peidmont Street waffle house.. Do I lie. Call me.

What is the matter with you, #sshole? What are you, 12 years old? I guess you get a bump in your shorts talking like that. What a retard. Life in the trailer park must really be dreary if this is how you get your jollies. Don’t you know that everybody knows your an imposter? Don’t you know that no one except your little turd friends think you’re funny. I can see you now, snickering like you pulled the wool over people’s eyes. You are one sick pr#ck. Jesus Christ, boy, don’t you have any sense of decency or integrity? We all know you have no spine, or you’d take the beating you deserve like a man. I forgot, though, you’re not a man. You’re a pansy who gets off on projecting your perverse desires on others, and hides behind a computer all the while. F#ck off, d#ckcheese. Or grow a set and name the time and place to get your #ss kicked, you gob of snot. What a pitiful child your inbred parents brought into this world. Do they know of, or can they even comprehend, your desire to impale yourself on bed posts for sexual gratification?

I hope you live long enough to mature, but then again I’m not so sure you ever will. Oh well, what can we expect from the offspring of 2 waterheads? You’re living proof that the U.S. should consider retroactive abortion.

Poser, go hang yourself in your closet. No one will miss you so it will be weeks till the smell makes someone try to find out what got spoiled.
