UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Now we see what Dogs are made of

The first two games of the season have been fun and somewhat revealing for Georgia. In general, you’d have to say the Bulldogs’ offense looks a little better than expected and the defense not quite as good as expected.

But even those conclusions are more hypothesis than fact. We’ll know a lot more after Saturday’s game against South Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium.

“We’re starting Southeastern Conference play and that’s really a new beginning for us,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said at his weekly news conference Tuesday. “The first conference game of the year is very meaningful us. It’s a source of excitement for our players and our staff. I can feel it already and it’s only Tuesday. And it comes against the team we always play first and one that’s always kind of a bloodbath for some reason.”

Say what you will about what the Gamecocks’ defense did at Vanderbilt. It still leads the SEC in almost every defensive category — including total D (181.5 ypg) — and South Carolina always plays Georgia tough, especially in Columbia. Conversely, the Gamecocks are still struggling on offense and unsettled at quarterback. Who would have thought that would be the annual theme for Steve Spurrier at South Carolina?

But the tests don’t stop with the Gamecocks. The Dogs are now getting into the teeth of the schedule so many people are saying might be the toughest in the land. After South Carolina, Georgia is at Arizona State (2-0, vs. UNLV this Saturday), then back home against Alabama (2-0, v. W. Kentucky) and, after a week off, gets Tennessee (0-1, v. UAB) at home.

So which of those next four opponents concerns you the most? Let’s hear your thoughts.

The Crimson Stain is the only opponent who’s got me even the slightest bit concerned. Saban’s coaching them up, and they’re playing with a swagger lately, but they’ve got to come to our house.

I’m really looking forward to a revenge game against the Volunsmears—to quote the lame Urban Spunkenmeyer, “It’ll be a big a deal….sniffle, …”

I’m most concerned with South Carolina given their defense. The other games will be tough games, too, but I think that SC will be more of a test for us than those teams. I know rankings and the loss to Vandy don’t show that, but that doesn’t mean that SC isn’t good enough to beat UGA or Florida this year. Not saying they’ll beat us, just that the win isn’t in the bag yet.

how come nobody’s talking about that one series of no huddle that looked unstoppable against cmu? i think we are gonna break that out on usc and blow them away. with all the receivers, the new clock rule, and stafford reading defenses like a dr. seuss book, its perfect. besides richt was the king of that offense during the charlie ward days. i think this is gonna be HUGE

I’m really concerned about Arizona St. They’ve been pretty impressive so far this year and Dennis Erickson always has his team ready to play in the big ones. Same goes for Alabama. I thought they were really underrated coming into the year, and they’re starting to prove me right. They played us as close as you can play someone last year, and they’re better this year. That being said, I’m also concerned about SC and Tennessee. All four of these teams are good enough to beat us if we don’t play like we’re capable of playing.

So sick of hearing about Knowshown’s leap. Good play but Brian Leonard’s done it countless times in a game (go to you tube) and actually scored a touchdown on the play. Coach Richt a great coach but this schedule is stacked against him. UGA loses one the next three games (SC, ASU, BAMA), loses to Florida, and to LSU or Auburn.

On another note, I was very encouraged by the stellar performance of the UGA OL on Saturday. Chip how much of an impact did the return of Clint Boling have in week 2? I am looking forward to watching the battle between them and the South Carolina Defense. After this week, we should know what to expect from this unit, throughout the remainder of the season.

Dawgs are playing better each week. SC will be the first challenge but GA will rise to it. Too many offensive weapons.

ASU is not as good as their ranking. Stanford was in the game right up to the last qtr. They ran the ball against ASU fairly easily. The Dawgs will have no trouble if the Defense can pressure Carpenter. If not, he will pick us apart.

Alabama will be the real test. Saban has them hitting on all cylinders. It will be a battle but playing between the hedges will give the DAWGS the edge.

Stafford is playing better than ever but still way below his ability. He is managing the game and making excellent decisions. But, IF he can ever rise to the next level and play to his natural ability, GA can go undefeated (and everyone will say “Tebow Who?”. But, that is a big IF.

I think that Alabama and ASU have the most “complete” teams of those coming up through the Tenn. game, but this week will at least give us a better idea of where we truly are since we are playing an SEC school at their place. So far, the team looks like they should beat all of these teams if they show up ready every week. I’m hoping that the huge potential of this season keeps the players from having a “No Show” game like they had against Tenn. last year. We’ll see……

Definitely the next one, South Carolina.

In looking at the history of the series South Carolina rarely wins, but when they do it is two years in a row.

Just because they have had QB problems doesn’t mean they will this game. Spurrier is poor mouthing but he did that last year too.

The key to this game is always the running game. Last year Georgia abandoned the run when it was working and South Carolina stuck with it.

South Carolina has clearly not been able to stop the run the past couple of years. Jasper Brinkley is playing much slower at his significantly higher weight and for some reason Captain Munnerlyn has not played that well in the first two games. They really miss Corey Boyd. Davis just doesn’t have Boyd’s talent.

If Georgia sticks with the running game we will win.

Alabama looked great against Clemson, but not against Tulane. Too early to tell about them.

funny thing, georgia, on one hand, acts like cmu is some little team that means nothing, on the other hand, when georgia gets some moves against central, they act like espn and everyone should be cheering like they just played the best school in the country. They all concern me. Tide and ASU are clearly the best 2 teams of the bunch. Cocks are ruderless (pun intended). UT better hope we don’t put in Logan Gray because I have seen how they handle 3rd team QBs.

It will be interesting to see if OSU can score on USC. I will be watching it, but don’t think it is going to be the game everyone though before the start of the season. OSU hasn’t won a big game since Texas.

Hey, I agree that Arizona could be scary. Why? Long trip, possibly over 100 degrees. South Carolina just does not look that tuff and we should want revenge from last year. Man, you trolls make me sick. So UGA might have some fans who overindulged, or perhaps just naturally lack class. Guess what? Your school does to.
I’ve seen Jacket fans cheering injuries to the opposing team. I’ve sat near Vol fans spewing profanities, oblivious to the several young children seated around them. Do yourselves a favor: grow up and go talk up your own team rather than trying to be derisive to a rival (and in fact only suceeding at coming across as being petty and small.)

Now as to actual subject matter of this post: I would have to say I’m most concerned about South Carolina at the moment— they’re down, their backs are against the wall as far as conference record, and Spurrier has proven time and again that he can get kids to play out of their skulls against Georgia. Not an enticing combo platter for the visitor, IMO. If UGA can win big, I’ll feel a lot better about the upcoming games; sadly, I’m thinking we’ll win by no more than 7.

The move “THE LEAP” was something you don’t see very often (RARELY) college, pro’s. You just don’t and won’t. Its hard to imagine with the offensive line coming around and Stafford, Moreno and company doing their thing how we could lose more than say one. Defense just has to work on those long pass’s they let go with CMU.

It’s Georgia-South Carolina, so if history repeats itself we can expect a tough defensive struggle that is won by a score like 16-13. Usually Georgia comes out on top, but occasionally Carolina steals one. It’s been like that for years. I haven’t seen any changes since Richt and Spurrier arrived.

Bantam Roosters are conspicuous by their absence on this blog. Last year they were all over it beating their chests. Maybe they don’t feel so confident, or could a few of the negative nabobs at the top of this blog be anonymous lamecocks just posing as nerds?

This game with So. Car. is not a game of revenge as much as it is a game of redemption. Same can be said of Tennessee. I think we will be motivated enough to take care of business in those games.

ASU scares me the most. Although I think we have the talent to beat them decisively, it is a kind of a “trap” game coming between SC and Bama, a long trip, and high temperatures.

I think we handle the chickens on the road, Bama and Tennessee at home, struggle a little with ASU but eventually our depth rules out.

Go DAWGS!!!!

UPDATE FROM NEWS CONFERENCE

The news conference began like usual, with CMR talking about and mostly lauding the upcoming opponent. He had a lot of compliments for South Carolina, especially their defense.

Interesting to note that the Gamecocks actually have 12 starters returning on defense. Officially it’s 10 but that doesn’t include the return of previous starters LB Jasper Brinkley and DT Nathan Pepper. They both played against the Bulldogs last year and had huge games but were eventually lost for the year to injuries… .

“Quite frankly they just physically whipped us,” Richt said of the 16-12 loss, in which Georgia failed to score a touchdown. “They’re just a really big, strong defense.”

As a matter of fact, the Dogs have failed to score a TD in three of the seven games against South Carolina in which Richt was coach. “I think it’s their defense. It’s always played early in the year and it seems like we’re always breaking in a new line.” …

The good news is CMR said he thought the offense “might be a little further ahead” than it was last season. “But it’s hard to say because this is a different breed of athlete we’re playing in this game. Lot of differnce in the size, speed and strenght of this defense.” …

Dogs aren’t worried about which quarterback plays, Tommy Beecher or Chris Smelley* because they feel they’re both very similar. “Just preparing for Steve Spurrier’s offense,” CMR said. Dynamic WR Kenny McKinley (hamstring) is doubtful but Georgia expects he’ll play if “there’s any chance at all.” …

Quick hits:

LB Darius Dewberry and FB Fred Munzenmaier return from suspensions this week. CMR thinks Dewberry, who plays strongside over the tight end, will be a big help on defense against SC’s Jared Cook and some on special teams. Munzenmaier’s contributions probably will be confined to special teams… .

CMR said FB Shaun Chapas “has been stellar, outstanding.” Said they probably need to resurrect the “fullback wham” into the gameplan… .

CMR talked about how well WR Michael Moore has played. Said that’s what they see all the time in practice…

Kickoffs competition is back on. Blair Walsh hasn’t excelled and they may turn to walkon Jeff Lindley.

Defensive end play has been disappointing. Not awful, but they’re looking for some playmakers vs. the Gamecocks… .

CMR hopes A.J. Green “just plays his game. I want him to relax and he himself and play like he practices” against South Carolina, which desperately wanted him.

OT Clint Boliing played “really good” vs. CMU, Richt said. Led the team in de-cleaters, knockdowns and graded out the highest. Played almost exclusively at right tackle and very little guard… .

DT Kade Weston (knee) will play.

Player quotes:

C Chris Davis: “No disrespect to the MAC and Georgia Southern, the SEC is incomparable, especially defensively. They’re just fast and physical and everybody can run no matter what position they play. So this is going to be a big test for us this weekend.” …

Davis on last year’s SC game: “I just remember their D-line just whipped us. We were manhandled up front. We couldn’t do anything. It didn’t feel like we gained a yard the whole game. So we’ve got to come out this week and get ready for a fist fight again because that’s exactly what it’s going to be.” …

Knowshon Moreno: “Last year was last year. It was just a real tough game. It was a physical game and unfortunately we didn’t come out with the win. It came down to the last minute of the game and we didn’t make the plays we needed to win. That’s pretty much it.”

Mohamed Massaquoi: “I didn’t think we played as well as we should have. I think South Carolina played really, really well. They’re a very good defense. They’re big and fast and physical and they match up really well… .

“S. Carolina made it difficult for us to move the ball as easily as we’ve been able to. We just have to be focused and go in there with the right mindset. We’ve got to be ready to fight and play our game.”

MATT STAFFORD: What does he recall of game last season? “Oh, just being frustrated the whole game. Me personally I didn’t play very well. It’s going to be a physical game just like it was last year. Their defense can definitely run and hit. We couldn’t get anything going last year… .

“Every week we go in with the attitude that we can put up points. It may not be the first drive of the game like it has the last two games where we just marched down the You never know until you get there. But it’s definitely going to be a critical game and we know it’s going to be more emotional than the first two. The guys are going to be fired up and excited. We want to get up there and see what we’ve got against a really good team.”

CB Asher Allen: “We understand going into this game, going into South Carolina, this is most definitely be a big game. We’re preparing for that.” …

“That and the Tennessee game, if we win either one of those games, who knows where we would have ended up. We definitely know winning in the SEC is important and we have a greater appreciation of that after what happened last year.”

looking at our last nine games, in which we are 9-0, we have averaged 38.66 points on offense. we have scored at least 40 or more in six of those games. The defense has given up an average of 19.88 ppg. I may not be good at math, but if we outscore our opponents by 19 ppg we can win. After two games in 1980 we had outscored our two opponents by a total of three points.(UT16-15,Clem 21-19). I think we are a little ahead of schedule this year. Go Dawgs!

Hey “the ohio state buckeyes”,

I can’t even believe you are on this blog and you seriuosly think you have a chance at winning on Saturday. You’d think the past two years of SEC smack downs would stop the smack talk from all you union dues paying Obama loving morons. I’d be nice to give OSU another smack down but based on what I saw last Saturday Miami (and the NC game) is not in your itinerary. Oh yeah, what’s OSU’s record against SEC schools? 0-9? LOL! Good luck though in the international bowl or emerald bowl or my favorite the OSUsucks.com bowl against oh I don’t know…Kent State.

Hey, Bulldog Fans!! I just found out that legendary UGA Coach VINCE DOOLEY is speaking at a luncheon on Monday, Sept. 22 at 11:30 in Cobb by Cumberland Mall. It’s sponsored by the Cobb Library Foundation and costs $30. He’ll be signing and selling his books and other memorabilia. I’ll bet he talks about our NUMBER 1 DAWGS!! Tickets can be bought online at www.cobbcat.org — hope to see the Bulldog Nation there!

I don’t think this will be a typical UGA/SC game. Three points to make.

First, I believe this team like last years, during the second half, has the confidence and swagger knowing they can compete and win against anyone. Self confidence, preparation, and purpose is hard to stop. Dawgs will have an attitude.

Second, I agree with Ryan’s comment. I believe Richt and Company will come out swinging, showing some new wrinkles with the proven weapons we have, catching Carolina on their heels. Defense play’s with intensity for 60 minutes and shows the best effort of the year. Crowd will be taken out after the first couple of series.

Third, one game at a time.

All four games are worth being concerned about.

Each opponent is capable of playing good football and has at least a very good defense or offense if not both.

South Carolina - look at results during the Richt era… enough said. south carolina does have good defense and a potentially good offensive performance.

ASU must be considered a scare when UGA has to travel so far and play against an Erickson-coached (and therefore shady and potentially class-less) team. Who doesn’t hate this guy aside from the school that has currently hired him?

Bama - Revenge game for them and they are better this year. similar to south carolina - good defense, potentially good offensive performance.

Tennessee - We’ll see once they play Florida, but one bad game doesn’t eliminate the threat they pose.

Ultimately, if UGA is on top of its game, those four teams have more to worry about than us, but all of them could ruin our season if things bounce the wrong way.

Chip, quick questions for ya 1. Where was Ellerbe last game? Why did his production drop off so much in tackles? Is there anything we need to know?

  1. What is Coach Martinez doing about getting pressure on the QB? What happened to Wynn and Irvin?

  2. Is it just me, or is Reshad Jones late on everything? It’s like he comes in a second or two too late to make the big play— whether it be a pass break up or timely tackle.

Thanks!

I disagree with the comments about the offense being better than expected. UGA has yet to prove anything. They scored against small schools that a good high school program could score on. This weeks game may prove a little harder, but this isn’t exactly a power house either. The first real test will be against ASU. If you can score 6 against them, then you can pound your chest, but we all know that won’t happen.

I’m not worry too much with our next 4 games. Our offense will put up points against any defense. Our defense will needs to improve quickly and I think they will as the conference games starts. They just need a wake up call.

All and all, I think we’ll get through the tough games and come away just enough to go undefeated.

This is a “VERY SPECIAL TEAM” and they will complete their mission when they bring home the BCS Trophy.

I’m concerned about every game. Every time I look at the schedule taped up on my office wall I get a stomach ache. It really is relentless from this point out. Even our “easy” games, Vandy and Kentucky, are great teams who are fully capable of beating any team in the country. I would love to throw a disparaging remark at the closeted GT fans reading the blog, but I can’t. The Paul Johnson era has gotten off to a much faster start that I thought it would and the modified option he is running seems to be pretty effective. I guessed it would take most of the season to get the rythym of the option offense. I don’t think it will be quite enough against VA Tech, but they will bring their best against the Dogs for their season finale.

Georgia will prevail in a tough hard fought game in the first half against SC. In the second half it will turn into a blowout. UGA 34 SC 17 The trip to Tempe will be a high scoring affair, but i think Georgia will get more stops against ASU UGA 38 ASU 24 Alabama will be the toughest game. JfergNCdawg: To your questions …

(1) Ellerbe’s fine. CMU ran to the weak side most of the time and threw the ball a lot. Hence, Ellerbe with 1 tackle and weakside ‘backer Rennie Curran with 11. Ellerbe also shared reps with Darryl Gamble, who had 2 tackles… .

(2) Getting pressure on the QB is a big topic of conversation this week. There will be an opportunity to apply more against S.C. with a more traditional offense. D-ends aren’t doing much so far. May have to blitz more, which comes with risks… .

(3) I share your observations of Reshad Jones, that he’s a step late often. Hasn’t impressed me much so far.

There is no such thing as the next four games. We only get to prepare for and play one game and that is against the deflated chickens from down the road. After that smackdown they received in at Vandy they’ll be looking for redemption. Unfortunately for them they don’t have the horses and the Old Bawl Sacks plays are tired.

I have done the math as a SC fan. UGA has Marino/King and Stafford. We have Davis/ T. Rank and Smelley. Georgia is more talented as always. = UGA victory

Mckinnley is out or he will play at 70%. SC does get its best O-lineman back, Merrideth. The O-line plays alot better with him in. Maybe the revolving door at left gaurd will be closed.

SC special team is good this year…the blocked FG and the ball hitting an offensive player against Vandy were fluke plays.

I remember his quips hillbilly. My hope would be to see at least 3 to 4 visor tosses and a few more patented Spurrier anguished looks in his contorted face.

It’s tough being in the SEC with so many emotional rivalries. The Tech rivalry slogan, “good old fashioned hate” goes a lot further than the bugs. It applies to Spurrier, wherever he is, Florida, Tennessee, and Tech in that order. Auburn is the oldest rivalry, but oddly enough the most gracious. The rest are just high profile games against great opponents, LSU, Bama, lately KU and Vandy have been tough.

It’s hard not to get personal with some of the posters in here with their off the wall comments. I sure it’s much harder to be a coach in the SEC and try and not let it get personal. Ask Urban after last year’s celebration. Even so I have an allegience to our hated enemies against most foes out of the conference.

Obviously they are all tough. If I have to say, I think this week is the toughest of the next few games. Here’s why:

Dogs are on the road and they have played two teams with D Lines half the size and speed of Carolina. It is the first real test of the season… and we do not seem to execute well against Spurrier. That said, I hope we score 60 on them. There will never be enough retribution for Darth.

Bama is a very good team, but we have them at home and the boys will be battle tested by then. It will be a great time between the hedges.

ASU has an incredible offense, but I think we can outscore them. Our defense is better than theirs.

… but LSU really scares me a few games later!

PACWIN,

From Wikipedia (and any other number of sources you’d like to cite):

“What is widely known today as ancient Sparta refers to state and culture that were formed in Sparta by the Dorian Greeks, some eighty years after the Trojan War.”

The point was, and still is, that the Trojans were losers.

HE’S BROKEN OUR HEARTS ENOUGH IN THE PAST AND I’M REALLY KIND’A AFRAID HE’S GOING TO PULL SOME OF HIS SILLY S@^$ AGAIN ON US. I WOILD LIKE TO SEE US DROP WHATEVER TEAM HE IS COACHING,LIKE WE DID WITH CLEMSON A FEW YEARS AGO.THIS IS REALLY A BIG TRAP GAME LET’S JUST GET A WIN AND WITHOUT ANY MAJOR INJURIES,AND GET THE HELL AWAY FROM HIM.

So many big games to come!!The boys look like a monster on offense, but seriously ,WHAT real fan of college football let alone even casual UGA fans didnt expect THAT?The D is the key to our winning it all.I STILL have concerns about our secondary and the DE play.I dont know if it’s just me or what but EVANS AND MILLER scare the hell out of me!!!HONESTLY if we have to go up against a top notch passing attack or a good qb on a hot streak, we have some issues.Miller makes a few plays here and there but at his ht. he seems to get beat a lot in jump ball situations to often!Evans I keep hearing has speed galore but he always..always seem to be out of position! They may practice well but GAME DAY? they seem a little lacking, this goes back to last season as well.As for the games:SC-not enough talent.ASU- supar D .BAMA-Nice talent close call at home TENN-payback game QB SUBPAR LSU-FLA-AUB -Not sure yet what they really have-next couple weeks we should know

It’s interesting that Whitegoat figures we are nervous because we talk about SC in a Dawg blog. He knows this because he and “most gamecock fans” as he puts it are in our Dawg blog to talk about the Dawgs so much. Hmmm, something odd about that logic.

Richt wisely did not show his team’s full potential in the first two games.

The Dawgs will open up on So. Carolina & Arizona State. The Gamecocks have a faithful fan base but do not have a team that can keep up with The Dawgs. The Dawgs will dismantle The Gamecocks by two or three TD’s.

Arizona State will be tougher be still a victory by one or two TD’s.

My first half season concern is with the Bama Game. It will have been a long 5 weeks before they play The Tide and if The Dawgs are not careful, this could be a problem for us.

With an open date the weekend before, I’m confident we’ll beat UT.

Hey Altamaha, the same guy who guranteed me a USC win last year has guaranteed me a USC loss this year. I thought the guy was off his rocker last year and told him so, but with his connections to USC, I now am listed as one of the believers. He says we fry the chickens in Columbia. Why do you think that they moved the 11 herbs and spices recipe today to an undisclosed location? It all fits into place. The Sanders recipie is now in an unused kitchen at the South Carolina State fairgrounds under NSA watch waiting for the outcome of Saturdays game. I hear they are already to come out with the new signs for the restaurants on Sunday from KFC to USCFC. Well that is what is on the Drudge report, quoted from Bob Woodward. I smell something, and it smells like Colonel Richt is frying chicken. Gotta go the Men in Black are at the door and want me to look at some kind of light they have.

So Regan, what is your point? If non atheletes white or black cannot get into UGA with a 900 SAT, you are arguing with a brick wall, not me, or anyone else. It is not racism on that point. It is just criteria. From the dawn of college athletics, atheletes have been recruited and accepted with lesser grades and test scores than Joe Average, white or black. Heck look at Tech. They prove your point better than UGA. Is it right, well that depends on whether you get the kid in with the lower standards and teach them up so they actually graduate with some kind of degree. If a University does that, then I have no problem with it. Making better men and women should be something that every University strives for in some capacity. And it usually falls in athletics. If you bring them in, use them for a year and toss them like yesterdays taco salad, then there is a problem that should be corrected. So my answer to you is that I do not mind atheletes being given a chance, heck I did not have that chance, I had to earn my degree by my own merits. As long as they use that chance to better their lives and most likely if they do, they will better the lives of others.

.

.

Steve Spurrier, from the time of his failed NFL botched attempt at coaching, has done extremely poorly at South Carolina. And, he blames the University of South Carolina Administration with whom he has had several sparring sessions about his recruits which they will not let in to play for him.

22-17 is his record at South Carolina.

This is his 4th season.

He does not have a winning bowl record.

In fact, not at South Carolina and not at Florida either.

This Loss to Intramural Vandie 6 days ago leaves Steve Spurrier with only two more games he could Lose at South Carolina in the Next Entire 4 years.

Steve Spurrier has 17 Losses in 3 years and 2 games at South Carolina.

Coach Richt has 19 Losses in 7 years and 2 games at UGA.

It’s amazing for the once-storied Ole Ball Coach.

It’s his 4th season, yet he has won exactly one bowl game.

He can’t keep a coaching staff over there.

He cannot recruit his way out of a wet paper bag.

It all started when Steve Spurrier announced coming in before the bowl game 4 years ago, but refusing to coach in the game that with a 6-5 South Carolina winning record in 2004 for Lou Holtz saying that he did not believe that South Carolina earned a bowl bid. He refused to let the team play in a bowl game, saying they were bad boys. This for a school who has a Grand Total of 4 Bowl Wins in their stinking 114-year football history. South Carolina began playing football in 1894 and have 4 Bowl Wins ever.

But, Steve Spurrier did not stop with his Petulant Child ways at just refusing to allow his team to play in a bowl game in 2004, in addition, Steve Spurrier took the recruits both committed to South Carolina and those On-Scholarship at South Carolina and booted them out. He stole their Scholarships from them. It was a huge big stink. Coach Richt has recruited South Carolina better than Steve Spurrier since that date. Do you see the connection ?

By ............................................BuLLdawg

September 10, 2008 4:51 AM | Link to this

Why would a recruit go to Steve Spurrier’s lousy South Carolina team ?

To have him rip their Scholarship Away ?

To have South Carolina blot the recruit’s record by saying the recruit would not be allowed into South Carolina, when Steve Spurrier says those denied recruits were eligible and should have been allowed in.

The best Steve Spurrier has done at South Carolina is 8-5. Lou Holtz had South Carolina years of 9-3 and 8-4, for example.

South Carolina plays an incredibly tough Strength of Schedule.

Did you know that all 6 of the SEC Eastern Division teams have votes in the most recent Polls ?

No. 59 in the BCS Rankings, Steve Spurrier must have voted for South Carolina instead of Duke like he used to do every year before this season.

Steve Spurrier arrived at South Carolina with a 142-40-2 Record.

Now, he is 164-57-2.

77 percent of his Games, Steve Spurrier had won before joining lousy South Carolina.

73 percent of his Games, now, Steve Spurrier has won.

Once the Best in The SEC, now he is not on the List.

56 percent winning percentage at only 22-17 at South Carolina Spurrier at USC.

80 percent winning percentage at 74-19 Coach Richt at UGA.

No. 19 Final AP Poll in 2000-2001, Lou Holtz did quite well at South Carolina compared to Steve Spurrier.

No. 13 Final AP Poll in 2001-2002, Lou Holtz did quite well at South Carolina compared to Steve Spurrier.

Steve Spurrier hasn’t sniffed the Top 25, and this is year 4 with him buried in the Polls yet again, actually ranked No. 59 in the BCS Poll today. No. 59 Steve Spurrier.

Failure.

Steve Spurrier has played only 3 BCS Conference Opponents. He has a Losing Record against The SEC, a Losing Record to the Big XII and has a 14-17 Record against BCS Schools at South Carolina.

That’s it.

Those are the only 3 Conferences Steve Spurrier has played who are BCS Conference Opponents.

14-17 against BCS Conference Opponents.

Losing Record against BCS Conference Opponents.

Losing.

14-17. This is Spurrier’s Coaching Record at USC against SEC, ACC, and Big XII Opponents, and he has yet to play anyone in the PAC-10, Big East or Big Ten.

The Petulant Child bad mouths his opponents (“It’s not like UGA is some great and powerful team we just beat.”)

The Petulant Child bad mouths his players.

The Petulant Child bad mouths the University of South Carolina Administration.

And, he is a damn loser.

Not once in now his 4th season at South Carolina, has Steve Spurrier had a Top 25 team.

Steve Spurrier at South Carolina :

Spurrier has a Losing Record to Coach Richt.

Spurrier has a Losing Record to Houston Nutt when he was at Arkansas.

They say that Spurrier must win this season, or he is gone from South Carolina.

April 20, 1945, the OLD ball coach is now 63 years old. He has Lost 1 game already this season and has yet to face up-coming now : Coach Richt, Houston Nutt, Les Miles, Phillip Fulmer, Bobby Petrino, Urban Meyer, and Tammy Bowden – not a 1 of which does he have a wining record against at South Carolina. This is Spurrier’s worst season at USC, and yet it is his 4th season. His recruits have been there 4 years now today. Lou Holtz had better teams than Steve Spurrier at South Carolina. A LOT better.

Comic relief. I rest my case. It is an AJC Sports blog about the dogs and not a registered dog blog. Man please.

Cuz, thank You for restoring My faith in humanity. Just when I thought people could sink no lower You tell Me that Gator Chump has an imposter. What’s next, dancing Hitler impersonators? Wait a minute, Mel Brooks already thought of the Nazi chorus line. Oh well, as the great P T Barnum said, “nobody ever went broke underestimating the American public”! BuLLdawg, I have been hating Spurrier since before You were born. Now You have Me feeling sorry for the guy. Thanks a lot!

And your case would be? Your obsession with the Dawgs is limited to “open” blogs about the Dawgs. No green monsters hidding in that one.

You know if you want to be a Georgia fan, just do it.

All the blogging in the world does not erase the fact the Spurrier owns UGA and knows how to beat them, plain and simple. He owned you at UF, and is your greatest fear at South Carolina.

He knows your weakness, which begins with CMR then filters down to Mike Bobo. To allow an offensive coordinator to run your program who holds the record for most interceptions at UGA confirms this program has holes.

The Dogs will now begin their stretch of losing games. The Dogs will lose to either ASU and/or USC this weekend. Opening with weak opponents will again prove why ESPN and the rankings pay no attention to this program.

By the end of week 6 or sooner, the Dogs will by bumped out of the top 10 in all rankings.

Warning: you best with the national title this year, otherwise, no one will pay you any mind in 2009.

Ready to take it on the chin from South Carolina this weekend? Are you man enough to return here on monday and admit defeat, or will you go into denial like every UGA fan and claim how great your program is?

Altamaha, I have no obsession with the dogs. I am commenting on the what if statements. I would imagine that you read other blogs as well and occasionally comment. It may be that deal about free speech, but no obsession. Just being a Gamecock fan. It is a game to be played. We shall see. If the Gamecocks do lose, I will tip my hat to the dogs for that game only. I lost my best goat over the dadgum Vandy game and will be having barbeque in his honor this weekend.

Bulldog Nation needs to take some time and vote for your favorite Heisman Candidate:

http://collegefootball.rivals.com/copoll.asp?poll=91

Oh sorry, no Bulldogs are listed. Keep in mind the Heisman is about winning with class and style, not hurdling an all girls school team from Michigan. Tell Knowshon to try that move this week or against UF.

  1. Spurrier has a national title and CMR does not.
  2. Spurrier contributed to the famous UF quote “15 of 17” with UF winning 15 of the last 17 before last year.
  3. Spurrier was correct last year in his comments last year when South Carolina beat the Dogs between the hedges…”it is not like we beat some powerhouse…”
  4. Spurrier is Athens largest fear, even the AJC admits.
  5. Spurrier can is better coach and tactician than CMR and Bobo and Sat. will prove it again.
  6. CMR is classless for not calling Moreno out for is disrespected move in the CMU game and that sort of move will end his season or career against a “real program.”

If Georgia can go into the game and execute and make the adjustments needed as the game plays out, they will win the game. Georgia 28 South Carolina 10.

South Carolina scorring more than 14 points against ANYONE is a stretch this season. They have a great defense, but their offense seems to be running in mud. Three QB’s and not a decent passer amongst them. It will still be a slugfest, as it always is. But our best is MUCH better then their best.

The Bama game looks the toughest of the next four. Power football by both squads. We simply must beat UT and S.Car in East redemption games, and I think we will outscore Arizona State by running effectively on them. Were we to have to lose one game this year: Bama, @LSU or @Auburn would be most survivable. I hope we win them all and rolling through this four game stretch would be a HUGE start - we’d be half-way to regular season perfection. READ: www.bighairyblawg.com

Is your question, will I, a true Dawg fan, irrespective of the outcome, still be talking about the Dawgs in a Dawg blog next week? The question should be WHY would you be in here next week to talk about the Dawgs? I’m telling you guys, your envy is so transparent. If you want to be a Georgia fan, just do it.
