UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Coaches drop Dogs to No. 2

So Georgia’s reign at No. 1 lasted one week. The Bulldogs fell to No. 2 in both the USA Today/Coaches’ and Associated Press rankings, which were released Tuesday. Southern Cal, which won 52-7 at Virginia Saturday, leapfrogged to the top spot. Georgia defeated I-AA opponent Georgia Southern 45-21.

Anticipating this, I had a chance to talk to coach Mark Richt shortly before the poll actually came out.

“That wouldn’t surprise me,”he said.

Asked if it’d matter to him, Richt said, “No, I don’t care. It’d probably be a blessing I’d think.”

The USA Today/Coaches’ poll is part of the BCS formula that determines what two teams play for the national championship. The AP, a poll of writers and broadcasters, does not.

I talked to several players at the press luncheon today and they, too, didn’t seem to concerned about it. Keep in mind, this was also before the rankings were actually released.

“The rankings right now are not too important,” said sophomore center Chris Davis. “I mean, it feels good to be No. 1 and you want to stay No. 1 the whole year. But it all depends on where you’re ranked in December. We’re just worried about Central Michigan eight now. It’s a good team that has the capability of beating us. So we can’t look at polls or this and that. We have to focus on Central Michigan and getting better.”

That was pretty much the same thing said by Matthew Stafford, Reshad Jones and Knowshon Moreno, who I also asked about.

I heard from a lot of you when I said this was a possibility. What about now that it’s reality? Were the Dogs wronged?

Just goes to show how lame the polls are - coaches and media are both pretty fickle, and seem to make up the rules as they go along. But it’s part of the game to get that MNC.

I’m not surprised. USC played on national TV against an ACC opponent and blew them away. Although Georgia also dominated (at least until the reserves started playing) no one saw the game. As long as they keep winning, they’ll play for the NC, that’s what counts. Go Dawgs!

The polls are and have been BS since the BSC came about. The Dawgs should just focus on what they can control, win every game, win the SEC East, win the SEC Championship. The rest will take care of itself.

It really does not matter much at this point in the season. Just play strong each game, do the best you can do and what really matters is where we finish at the END of the season.

Go Dawgs!

I’m fine with a #2, and it takes a little bit of pressure off them in my opinion, as well as putting some more pressure on them to finish out games well. If we had not allowed those 21 points in the 4th quarter, I imagine we’d still be at #1. As it is, we did well, but let up on the gas enough to make some thing that we didn’t dominate as much as USC did.

By Mobile Dawg

It’s actually better than I expected.

Dawgs D needs to take some pride in their performance, step it up two or three notches. That’s the weakness on this team right now. Get hungry, get mean!

If we don’t we will continue to fall.

By BCD

I don’t mind slipping to #2. If we keep winning but slip further, then I’m going to get a little upset. USC/OSU winner was going to be #1 in week 3 so it happened just a couple of weeks earlier than it would have. Also, it removes the #1 bullseye off of us and puts it on USC.

The only one that matters is the one at the end. This is not an issue, if UGA takes care of business every thing will work out. Hootie would also remind all UGa tailgaters to pick up after themselves, North Campus was a disgrace again post game on Saturday. Thanks in advance

it does not bother me. USC definitely looked sharp on Saturday.

i think this will help our focus and concentration. i agree with Richt - it may be a blessing. we played a lot of freshman on Saturday and i believe that evaluating their ability is more beneficial then proving that we can humiliate GA Southern.

you do not have to be #1 to play in the national championship. you can be #2.

By saywhat

September 2, 2008 2:18 PM | Link to this

Yea - the players are just towing the “company” line. I bet if they had their honest say they are mad as heck. Besides - there is only one way to settle it - let them play all of their games and win (which is unlikely) and then let the chips fall where they may. Oh yea - they would like to say it doesn’t matter much to them - but I bet right now the rank reduction is in their locker-room - right in the middle of the bulletin board.

The polls are irrelevant until the end of the season. The dawgs should only focus on one game at a time. They should stay focused because the only thing they can control is what happens on the field…which is winning the East and getting to the SEC championship.

Asked about dropping in the polls, Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford said: “I don’t care. We’re 1 and 0. That’s a good thing.”

The ACC only has one team left in the coaches’ top 25: Clemson at No. 22.

Are the people employed by the ajc so stupid that they don’t even know that Wake Forest — ranked 20th in said pool — is an ACC school?? Guess not as they were probably educated at the bastion of academic excellence known as UGA.

By LT DAWG

I don’t have a problem with it considering we played Georgia Southern and they played Virginia. I think the poles should stay pretty fluid the first few weeks of the season. This will also give the team a reason to play with a chip on their shoulder.

Fine with me. USC is a great team, and is every bit as deserving as we are. Just a matter of opinion right now, and as for RIGHT NOW, I would vote us # 2 as well.

Its a great position to be in, and as long as the dawgs take care of business, we will be fine.

The thing I took pride in was that the COACHES and the WRITERS both had us #1.

This kind of argument would NOT have ever been possible if not for CMR and the TERRIFIC coaching staff we have at every position at UGA. Go dawgs.

This whole conversation is a testament to what our team is doing now. We are here to stay.

This is a prime example of buyer’s remorse. The coaches and media got caught up in the hype of Georgia and voted us preseason #1. Once Sturdivant got hurt, many voters said they would have voted differently but their ballots were already in. It’s not surprising especially after we lost Owens. With that said, most of these people saw the score on Saturday and thought we struggled. As we all know, this wasn’t the case. We pulled our starters up 38-0 and Georgia Southern scored 21 points on our 2nd and 3rd string defense. USC kept their starting QB in most of the game, running up the score, proving a point.

In the big picture of things, it really doesn’t matter. We keep winning, we will be where we need to be at the end of the season.

It just shows how subjective polls are and why College football needs to go to an eight team playoff. USC is deserving, but how can a team that was up 38-0 and won their game handily fall in the rankings? It is a beauty contest and not unlike scoring in olympic gymnastics or diving. Nobody wants that.

Keep all the current bowls and play the four games for the 8 team playoff on New Years day or day or two after and consider these the BCS bowls. Take only the top 8 ranked teams and seed them 1-8 regardless of conference, conference championship or how well the teams fans travel.

The next week the four remaining teams square off (during the week so as not to conflict with NFL) and then two weeks later (week before the super bowl when the NFL is dead) play the final game.

VERY FEW athletes would be affected. less than 350 players would be involved in any “extra games” and half that number would be involved in “2 extra games”.

If that is a concern, take one regular season game away from all schools. This year UGA would drop either G. Southern or W. Michigan. It can be done.

We would have been wronged if OSU had jumped us(which they almost did), but this sits alright with me. At the end of last year, UGA and USC were neck and neck and football country missed the great game that should have been. We both were at the top of our game and I respect USC for what they have as well as UGA for continuing this year . OSU should soon be out of the blogs of the mindless minions that matter none.

We are still in a position to show our stuff and as Richt says,”Our fate is in our hands”. USC’s victory over a BCS- eligible team and Mark Sanchez’s Player-of-the-Week performance together seemed to tilt the voting. I can live with that. High scoring didn’t help OSU and FU as much as you have imagined on this blog.

UgaVII-WAKE UP! Attaboy. Lets go lay it on a good CMU team and give Lefevre a spiked temp with bedrest prescribed.

this is a sham. The Dawes were up 38-0 and took out the starters. If its going to be done this way why dont we change the rankings from week to week based on performance. Alabama looked good maybe they should be no. 1. I mean I guess this sends the message that all teams should run up the score every week.

I said it before: the polls are not going to be our ally. And forget the computers-Sagarin had the Dawgs 9th before this weekend. To get their attention UGA might have to do some things CMR considers distasteful. Otherwise, I can see it now-USC (11-1) vs. Ohio State (11-1) in BCS Championship; UGA(13-1) watches after winning the Sugar Bowl (again).

More Media Bias Whipping poor old Hawaii got UGA to #1? We should never have been mis-matched against them in the firt place. If Mark May and Lou Holtz had their way, UGA would close its doors tomorrow… following suit of the BCS polls. UGA never gets the respect it deserves from any media source especially the AJC. So what if the little high school team put up 21 points in the 4th, they drove them in on the 3rd string. What were we supposed to do, beat up on the pony leaguers? Media bias, very plain and simple. Put us up against your precious USC or OSU… we’ll see what happens. Ohio, man please.

I’m surprised that anybody knows which conference Wake Forest is in. I’m also surprised that anyone is bragging that Wake is the top-ranked ACC school in football (behind five SEC schools). I’m not surprised that the ACC only has two ranked teams, with the highest ranking being 20th. I hope that some people show up for the ACC “championship” game besides the respective bands — I’m smelling yet another half empty stadium with ACC boosters blaming weak attendance on parking, gas prices, DragonCon, or whatever. Same old, same old — SEC has better athletes, better teams, better coaches, better fans, better stadia, better TV packages. Is it really true that the ACC has only won one BCS game in the last ten years?

All of this preseason you have heard from these dawg fans about their bullsh*t #1 ranking from all the polls and how they would be #1 the whole season. And now everyone is “okay with it”. Please.

Well what happened today proves that UGA should have never been #1 to begin with. See what happens when you get to much credit for beat a Hawaii team that had no business being any where near New Orleans.

Oh and by the way shouldn’t your 2nd and 3rd string defenses be able to stop 1-aa Ga Southern from getting in the endzone. I mean these are the cream of the crop players from the nation right? So they should be able to keep GSU from scoring. Face it the last two times you played GSU they dropped you in the rankings both times.

UGAY will drop to #3 after this weekend because you will play down to CMU and the nation will see that you were not as billed in the pre-season. Oh wait, you were (as the most over-rated team in the nation).

I think it’s just ridiculous. We’re stacked at every position. One of our starters go down, we have another 4* there to replace him who would start on practically every other team in the SEC and every team in the ACC.

We’ll be back on our rightful spot you wait and see. WE’re gonna work hard this week and beat Eastern Michigan then the real schedule starts.

When we stomp Spurrier, then we beat Arizona, then we kill Blamma.

I’m telling you, we will win every game by at least two TDs this year. We’re probably the best tema in the past 5 years. We will not be stopped. Destiney waits for us. I’m willing to work for a championship. Are you?

Da DAWGS never ever get love from the so call experts. Now if Fla, USC, OU, Miami or OSU would have been #1 and barley won to a team like GSU they would still be #1. If Ga would have beaten GSU 42-0 USC still would have moved ahead of UGA. Now our players need to go out with an attitude an whip everybody butt on the schedule and whipp them good. UGA players have a habit of playing down to their opponents level and if you plan on being National Champs you can’t do that. UGA should go into every game with an attitude to prove that they deserve to play in the National Championship, because they were cheated out of their chance last year. Coach Richt showed sportsmanship by not running up the score and look how they reward him, and now we see why Spurrier and Carol run up the score. Of course this is no surprise. The national media and coaches are biased and frankly, most of them are uninformed about teams in different parts of the country. This is why the polls are such a JOKE. They are hold overs from a time when football didn’t dominate the airwaves through cable and satellite games. The polls are hold overs from a time when football was not the business it is and the fan base was miniscule in comparison to today. Now they are just forums for the biased to vote for the beauty queen whose favor they want to gain.

USC had a great day…but maybe Virginia had an off day. Does the score mean USC is that much better than Virginia? No. Does the 21 points GSU put on the dogs mean they are not as good as USC? No. The score of a game doesn’t tell you much about how good a team is.

For those disgruntled, jealous, smack talking fans of other teams on the blog who are talking about UGA’s “high school” games to start the season…most analysts have deemed UGA’s schedule to the toughest in the country, even WITH Ga. Southern on it. So take that ridiculous argument elsewhere. You make us laugh.

I’ve been saying it over and over again. I appreciate the fact that Richt is a nice guy. I think it makes him a very good man. But football is not a game for nice guys. Do I want our line-backers to be nice guys on the field? Absolutely not. I want them to knock some heads off. Richt will never get real media respect until he learns that when you get a chance to put up 50, or 60, or more points, you take it! The polls are so close right now that I honestly think if UGA had won the game 66 - 21 (3 more TDs), then we might just still have the top spot.

We’ll be playing in Miami no matter what if the boy’s do their job. I actually think it’s good, I saw a team slow down and cruise on Saturday. Not what they need to be doing, they need to play each week like somebody just punched their mama in the face and P’d off. Maybe the drop in the polls will make them feel like that.

To - Wozzo the Wonder Dog - yea - because the SEC sold it’s soul to devil and will take ANY player; of which maybe 30% could not even get into most ACC schools. The SEC may be tops in athletics - but we know who will be calling who “boss” when the playing days (glory days?) are over. BTW - just compare the graduation rates of the SEC vs ACC. I would guarentee you that 90% of the UGA football players (same with the rest of the SEC schools - save Vandy) couldn’t get into that school if they weren’t football players.

What the Dogs need to do is really just forget the polls. Play with the attitude that every team could make you look like an ACC team. The season is one game long every week. Every game is the NC game.

Frankly, I’m so sick of the bias and sick of the bowls and the money involved that I’m losing interest in every game but Georgia’s. I’m not watching advertising. ESPuke is making me sick, so I’ve started tuning out. The ONLY reason I’m watching as much as I do is so I can bad mouth them anywhere and everywhere there’s a blog. I told my wife they would drop in the polls just because Richt had enough common courtesy not to run up the score. So many teams look forward to a weaker opponent to run up a score to something like 61-0 and the Dawgs could have easily done this Saturday. Had they done so they probably would be still in the top spot. But it is all good. The Dawgs will win the games that count and they’ll earn the respect of other teams for showing so much sportsmenship.

I just heard some ESPuke idiot say that Georgia and OSU should lose ranking because they were not “healthy”…losing key players this week and USC is healthy.

What does this have to do with winning and losing? Nothing. He is ranking a team based on his prediction of future performance. The problem is these guys vote using criteria they pull out of the sky. Strength of schedule is supposed to give you more credit for ranking…it is not supposed to make you drop in the polls. It is ridiculous. Georgia’s SOS was a hinderance last year because it wasn’t strong enough. Now it’s a hinderance because it is too strong.

Give us a playoff.

Also, had USC played Cal-Poly Tech this weekend (and were preseason #1) I promise you they wouldn’t have dropped after a W.

I agree that this further shows what a joke the polls are. I just want UGA to be given some respect! If the roles had been reversed this past weekend I can guarantee you that USC would not have dropped. How many years in a row do you have to win 9 or 10 games coming out of the SEC before the polls and national media take notice. I am sick of USC, the PAC-10 and the national media. I hope Georgia can run the table and I hope they get a shot at USC and make them look like Hawaii did last year against them. Go Dawgs!

The dawgs just dont get it…They want to be an elite team but want to start with GSU and Central Michigan…albiet Virginia didnt look that great..they are Division I and USC did go on the road. If you want to be considered a elite team then the non conference schedule has to be a little stronger. TN always plays a D-I team (Notre Dame, UCLA) in their 1st game and usually have success except this year.

If Georgia takes care of the things that they control (namely, the results of their games), then the rankings in the first week of September will be a long-forgotten memory.

Here is the reality: If Georgia wins out with their schedule, they are guaranteed a slot in the championship game.

You never win races at the beginning; but a whole lot of them are lost there - Clemson, Tennessee, ……

They give out trophies and pay the winnings at the end!

It stinks that uga dropped in the polls, but it was to be expected (media loves USC).

This is off the point, but I have written some stupid stuff on these blogs lately, and looking back, im embarassed. Bob Sacamano- I wanted to apologize to you as well. Being a teacher is an extremely respectable job, and we need better ones all over the nation. These blogs brought out the worst in me, and I found myself just “revenge” posting for what some other idiot wrote on the GT blog. So then I just became a jerk/loser/idiot along with them and wrote crap on the UGA blog. So again. Im sorry to all who had to read my garbage, and specifically Bob Sacamano because now that I have read what I wrote, im truly embarassed. So like my name says, there will be 1 less idiot posting on here now.

I see very good reason why UGA dropped to number 2 other than just not running up the points. Here it is:

  1. You lost 2 starters already in Sturdivant and Owens

  2. You supposed to be stacked at every position, right? Well, how come when UGA put in their 2nd and 3rd string a I-AA team scored 3 TD’s? I think that is enough to lose a few votes in itself. If UGA is really as stacked as they say they are, those 3 TD’s would not have happened so quickly. Vulnerable 2 and 3rd strings???

This is why I think USC jumped UGA, not because of a lack of points, but because anyone not playing on UGA’s first string is doubtful and falls short of the definition of “stacked”, but rather “serviceable”. Better hope that your 2nd string performance was a fluke because with the injuries on first string starting to occur it may spell disaster.

GO TECH!

As soon as GA Southern scored their final TD, I figured this would likely happen. There’s a big difference in perception, I believe, between 45-14 and 45-21. Even without that TD, we likely still would have been passed by USC.

As for getting leapfrogged without losing, this doesn’t bother me so much since it’s the first game of the season. Pre-season polls are conducted a bit “blind,” and Week 1 is the voters’ first chance to see the teams play (or at least the highlights on SportsCenter.)

Also, I think Owens’ injury contributed a bit… as did Knowshon’s “injury” (which turned out to just be a cramp.) It got quite a bit of press.

I don’t think it will matter at all in the long run, and I agree with Richt that it might be a small blessing.

Clay — don’t involve yourself in conversations which are over your head, and you clearly don’t belong.

Florida was not the first team to “ever” run up the score. In fact, your precious Coach Dooley ran up the score on Florida 51-0 back in 1968. Why do you think Spurrier hates you dogs so much and ran it up on you every chance he got? We know he holds grudges, so sorry… but you reap what you sow.

Now Clay: leave the football talk to the big kids since you clearly have no regard for facts, only wildly untrue tall tales.

—-Now back to the topic: I think USC deserved to be moved up based on their performance, but that the dogs look VERY good this year, and have a solid chance to do very well. So, please stop blaming your poll drop on scores from ball games from like 15 years ago. Entirely lame.

What is wrong with you people (Dawg Fans, AJC and Tech losers)? Are you really debating this? LSU lost its #1 ranking 2 times last year and ended up winning the MNC. Quit analyzing every last little thing for the love of god. USC, UGA, UF, LSU are all great teams and all of them have a chance to win it all. I am a UGA fan and I could really care less. As long as we are in the top 5 and undefeated everything will be fine. Lets just play the season and see what happens with the rankings. They usually work themselves out(except for poor Auburn).

Tech fans and who it may concern: until your team is in the top 25 rankings, you aren’t allowed to comment on another team’s blog.

By kool aid drinkers

September 2, 2008 3:54 PM | Link to this

What are you guys upset about? What no one is really saying is that the whole reason UGA even started out No. 1 isn’t because they actually deserved it. It was because pollsters felt sorry for UGA for the year before and because the pollsters also mistakenly thought that beatdown of Hawaii meant UGA was actually better than they really were. I guess we now know different after Fla. throttled Hawaii.

Secondly, USC’s only ? mark was their qb. With that question answered convincingly its readily apparent that USC is its usual bad to the bone self. After the 4 beatdowns they gave Arky and Auburn by scores like 23-0 over Auburn and 70-7 against Arky u have to give USC the benefit of the doubt over an SEC team like UGA. UGA quite frankly is more of a middle tier program compared to the likes of USC. UGA has a good 2 or 3 year run every long once in awhile. Other than that they have no business being considered in the elite status that USC has earned over the last few years.

Lastly, pollsters already knew UGA would lose 2-4 games this year so it doesn’t even matter if they start dropping while its early. One of the wins it looked like you could chalk up in the w column before this weekend was the bammers. After their physical beatdown of Clemson this weekend I don’t even think you can confidently say you can win that game, much less the already tough schedule of other teams like LSU, FLA, Auburn, Az. State, etc. You might be able to pass your way past the Bammers but after losing your top o-lineman and your top d-lineman its obvious that they will smack you around on the line of scrimmage the same way they did Clemson. LSU will also physically manhandle the dawgs and so probably will at least 1 or 2 other teams like Fla now that you ticked them off. Face it, it was nice during the 1 week that it lasted but your once every 28 year reign as no. 1 is over. Don’t worry though. I’m sure 28 years from now in 2036 you will again be number 1.

By Doc

September 2, 2008 3:58 PM | Link to this

This is the problem with the poll system. I am a Tech graduate who likes to see Georgia do well except when they play against Tech. The AP writers have a “darling” team each season and they will promote that team over all. In 1990, they could not bring themselves to move an undefeated Tech team over a Colorado team that had to cheat (five downs) to beat Nebraska, and barely defeated Notre Dame in the bowl game. Georgia showed a little class by not running up the score and the media pushes up their West Coast “darling” USC. Bring on a play-off system and end this charade once and for all.

This one week, and one season, aside, the flip-flop to USC points up the need for UGA to consistently play a tougher scheduled outside the SEC. Brag all you want about how tough the conference is, but the fact remains playing Troy and Ga. Southern and other 1-AA patsies every year won’t cut it if UGA/fans want the respect they think they deserve. USC has played home-and-home series against Auburn, Arkansas, Nebraska and now U.Va. this decade and thrashed them all. Until the Dawgs start doing the same, you’ll just be howling in the wind. Traveling to Arizona State is a good start.

We may have the only schedule where we don’t need to run up the score—though USC’s is strong enough too. Honestly, OSU has to run it up. You have to win convincingly if you play a lot of cupcakes. I think the assertion that we played a weak team is laughable when you look at who the Top 5 played this last weekend. Also, I am not sure why we are the only team in the county that gets made fun of for not scheduling 12 games in the Top 25; we just settled for over half our games—more than anyone else.

This just further highlights the stupidity of having Polls before the 6th game. Then I am forced to hear stupid comments like ESPN’s Jemele Hill saying UGA is overrated but I haven’t seen them play. After she criticized someone for lacking credibility. Made my head spin.

I think this is fair. Georgia played a known perennial victim.

USC scheduled and played Virginia, who currently happens to suck, but at least is a member of a major Div-I conference and USC had no way to know just how bad Virginia would be this year.

USC will crush OSU with or without Wells and Georgia will get the #2 spot until they start playing SEC competition and begin losing games.

The Dawgs will not play in the MNC game. It will be LSU or Florida if any SEC team. It could be another overrated, overranked OSU team since the media really loves watching them get pounded into the field on an annual basis.

Georgia literally could have scored everytime they had the ball, be it 5 play drives or clockburning 8 minute drives. It was a route, a total mismatch and any body with half a brain knows Georgia won by the score they dictated. GSU running around thinking they scored 21 on Georgia is hilarious… they scored it all on the scout team. Fact is , if Richt had wanted it, GSU’s offense would never have seen the field late when they were getting all their points. USC plays for the papers though, so we’ll see.Until January, no worries.

The whole world is in a love affair with USC, no surprise. Georgia was going to fall to number 2, after USC and Ohio played anyway. This takes some pressure off Georgia, now they can fly under the radar.

Well, I’m a bit relieved. Everybody’s gunning for #1, at #2 you have room to grow. Of course, UGA could have kept playing the starters and run up the score (the BCS seems to like that kind of “sportsmanship”), but instead we took the chance to showcase some young players - a valuable opportunity. I’m proud of my DAWGS!!

Ga Tech fans sure pay a lot of attention to our blogs, don’t they? Where is Tech ranked? Oh, yeah…that’s right! If you Techies think us dropping in the polls really bothers us, you are mistaken. Of course, if I were a Tech fan, and had the team you have to cheer for with those God-awful uniforms, I might pay more attention to the team with the REAL chance of achieving something this year. As long as we’re in the top five, it doesn’t make too much difference at this point in the season. Our freshmen got their feet wet and we started to develop some depth. All that’s important now is that we beat Central Michigan this Saturday. My TV media guide says the game is on FSN at 3:30.

given the results from this weekend, I think the drop in the polls should have been expected. This is not Richt’s style but he is going to have to run up the score whenever he can in order to impress the poll voters. especially early in the season. Had GA held for a shutout, then I think they would have held onto the #1 ranking.

First of all, it’s not that big of a deal. If we are fortunate enough to win out or perhaps even lose once or twice, with our schedule we’ll still be in the hunt. But the quality of our victory against Georgia Southern was marred by the fact that our reserves gave up 21 points. I understand what Richt is saying by not wanting to earn style points and that getting playing experience for the subs is more important but I’d really like to see us “finish the drill” at the end of these types of games too. Yeah those of us who follow those gallant lads in red and black know we could have run up the score but many of those who vote and eagerly await for us to stumble saw the final score as perhaps indicative of a game where we were not as dominant as expected. USC is definitely the real deal (and I’m not talking exclusively about just their starters) but believe me Virginia is given way too much credit as an opponent if the voters were swayed by Trojans’ 52-7 romp.

Zach, You are proof that Tech fans should not talk about football. First of all Georgia Tech is in the cream puff ACC, which was humilated this past weekend. The Georgia Bulldogs schedule includes 10 teams that went to bowl games last year, 2 that have won the past 2 national championships. The Dawgs have to play LSU and Florida away from Athens, along with Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Arizona State. Don’t forget South Carolina who humilaited an ACC team 34-0 last week and Kentucky which humiliated Louisville. Every football magazine ranks Georgia’s schedule as the nation’s toughest. Meanwhile you Techazoid insects will still be playing in one of the least respected conferences in the nation and you can’t even win that one. The SEC is far superior than the ACC.

LAMAR: Georgia game is on regular television this week. Will be broadcast on Fox Sports Net (FSN) at 3:30 p.m… .

Speaking of TV, “The Dawg Report” has resumed on CSS. I know it was on last night and is replayed a couple of times a week. Check your local listings… .

Heading out to practice shortly. Not much to look for today but I’ll let you know if I see anything notable… .

WR Kris Durham (shoulder) expected to be in a green jersey and held out of contact today. He’ll play though. Kenneth Harris remains questionable… .

A lot of “cross-pollination” with the coaches in this game. Georgia DC Willie Martinez was assistant head coach and secondary coach at Central Michigan from 1998-2000. LBs coach John Jancek was first defensive line coach and then defensive coordinator for the Chippewas from 2003-04. Meanwhile, CMU RBs coach Jeff Beckles was a graduate assistant coach from 2002-2004 and got a Masters from Georgia in 2005. He played for Richt at Florida State in 1993… . Captains: Matthew Stafford and Shaun Chapas on offense, Corvey Irvin on defense and Reshad Jones on special teams (32 yard punt return and one crushing tackle).

More later… .

Bottom Line…Georgia played a sub par game against an inferior opponent. USC played a better game against a BCS opponent. The Dawgs will get better, but man, they looked susceptible to the triple option when Henton was running it.

BE CAREFUL Dawg Fans, IT DOES MATTER! College football is one of the few sports that is decided by the POLLS. A coach doesn’t like running up the score, but if you don’t, you loose. The polls should not matter providing they do not fall out of the top 3. No one wins the SEC or the NC by way of the polls it must be done on the field. I was impressed with the physical nature of Alabama and hope our coaches especially our DC have taken notice of that, and understand that toughness up front is what we will need to beat Al, FL and AUB. When we got physical against Auburn in the blackout game it was no contest, that is how we must play on defense. Go Dawgs.

Now,now, Georgia fans, some of you are behaving poorly as poor sports do; others of you are wise enough to recognize that perhaps there are other teams out there that just might be a little better. Just because there is, in fact, a certain SEC superiority in the air doesn’t mean that other teams outside the SEC can’t be the best. It could very well be that some of those superior SEC teams get defeated this year by other non-SEC conference teams. That could be a possibility, couldn’t it? But, then, it could be a reality that non-SEC conference teams just can’t best any of those superior SEC teams. I just guess that’s something the rest of the conferences will just have to live with. Why, by the time the season is over, the twelve SEC teams will be ranked 1-12 in consecutive order. Nobody will ever want to play those invincible SEC teams ever again. And…who knows when a team in another conference will ever make it to the top ten again? Who could have been so unfair and mean as to vote the poor Georgia Bulldogs out of the number one position and relegate them all the way down to number two? SHAMEFUL!!!! How dare they disrespect such a superior conference as the SEC and challenge their right to all the top spots in the polls!! There must be conference and media bias when the SEC only has four teams in the top ten and at least five in the top twenty five. Why, every team in the SEC ought to be in the top 12 spots and everyone knows it….regardless of the record; afterall, it’s the SEC!!! and don’t ever forget that!!!

Actually the fact that OSU actually lost votes aught to serve as some damper on the conspiracy theories. USC probably would have been preseason #1 if they didn’t have a couple of question marks. Now they answered those and we actually developed a couple since the summer. And it wasnt the points differencial. Its not even a matter of class, to substitute last week, its a matter of survival going forward.

UGA is about 3 weeks away from some serious limelight for a while.

Lets see what the computers say about week 10.

And stop worrying about what the ESPN boys say. They are commentators on a TV show, Not the football czars.

The whole idea is to be around the top this year and next, to be in position, if we win enough.

This isn’t surprising. I could feel it’s something the media has wanted to do from the beginning: no one on ESPN or Fox has ever thought UGA was #1 this year, and the scant difference in scores Saturday only provided the excuse for dropping UGA.

ALso, living here in Los Angeles, it’s easy to see. USC is the media darling, in a popularity contest L.A. wins over Athens every time. Plus, remember, here in L.A., laughably, they have NO NFL team, and treat College Football like professional sports rather than collegiate athletics; both UCLA and USC.

But overall this is OK for UGA. The media is just going to make UGA prove it before they believe in them again, and that’s ok. After the first SEC game UGA will be back at #1, while USC is playing teams like Oregon and Arizona.

Instead of talking and worrying about the polls, we should be worrying about this game Saturday. I have a feeling this game will be alot closer than everyone is thinking. I hope I am wrong. That is what the players need to focus on.

This may be a good thing or a bad thing. Depends upon how you look at a Pac 10 school playing for the MNC instead of a Big 10 school.

Ohio State is being pushed by the media for a third shot at the MNC. Hope they get left out this year.

It would be a good thing if Ohio State iws left out but it will also be a bad thing for who gets to play the representative from the Pac 10 because they will be tougher to beat.

WTF

This is going to cause even more controversy and further highlight how inconsistent the standards are for ranking football teams. Last year the number 1 preseason team didn’t lose it’s position until they lost. After the first week of the 2008 season, both the coaches and media NOW decide they’re going to factor quality of wins??? This just illustrates the subjectivity inherent in the system. .

Georgia got hosed AGAIN! We DID NOT lose!!! Hey media, Richt doesn’t run up scores, please factor that into your stupid rankings. NOT to mention the fact UGA played the water boy and journalism students by the 4th QTR.

Ridiculous, absolutely insane. Enough already… forget Central Michigan this weekend, bring on USC and lets settle this right now!!!

The main point is that any college does not have to win a national championship to have a fun and successful football season.

That said, I do not care if UGA is number 1 in September. I do hope they play well enough to play for and win the NC in January.

If we don’t, then that is ok too. I have been around long enough to know that winning 10 games, beating Tech, playing in the SECCG, and winning a quality bowl make for a great season.

Winning the SECCG would be tremendous as always.

But win or lose, real UGA fans always love their DAWGS and do not have to have a NC to do so.

Good Time fans are those that yell the loudest when you are winning, cuss the loudest when you lose and then switch over to be another school’s fans when that school hits a winning streak.

Miami always comes to mind when I think of Good Time fans. I remember seeing so many people wearing Miami crap when they were good ie before the ACC mediocrity dragged them down.

Re the ACC: they have NEVER won a BCS bowl game.

And just thank God in Heaven if you are not a Tech fan. It mst be an most awful feeling to know the only school you can run the score up on is the Citidel. I think it was 70-0 in the late 1990’s but who cares?

I don’t care what the national sports writers vote. I don’t care what other schools’ teams do. I just ALWAYS pull for the Bulldogs to win.

With the schedule UGA has lined up, if you win out, there will be no doubt about who should play for the NC. I hope you win all of them until 11/29.

Early season polls won’t mean a thing this year. With the huge changes in clock/timeout management required now, more than a few of these top 10 teams will lose close ones that they pulled out last year.

Just up from practice. It’s “Bloody Tuesday” as they call it, so there will be some smacking around this afternoon. CMR was really happy that it was a good hot day today. He didn’t think they got enough heat heading into the last game. They’re practicing on the Field Turf fields today so they it will be as hot as possible.

As usual we didn’t get to see much of the contact. Just the preparation for the contact coming later. On that note, some observations:

DE Jeremy Lomax was back in a green jersey. But it didn’t appear it was holding him back very much. He was going at it pretty good with the rest of the D-ends… .

Clint Boling working at No. 1 RT as CMR had said he probably would. TFr. Cordy Glenn remained the No. 1 RG. Richt said Glenn actually led the team in pancake blocks. I know I saw two or three myself from Kiante Tripp so that’s pretty good… .

TE Tripp Chandler was also in green. Not sure what that’s about but I’ll find out… .

A bunch of football lettermen from the mid-1950s, like Tony Cushenberry and Capt. Joe O’Malley were visiting practice today. You could tell they enjoyed being out there.

More later… .

Judging by the UGA and SEC outrage at UGA falling all the way down to the second ranked team in the country, you would think the team that eclipsed them in the polls had won a national championship or two in the last five years or had played a Division-1 collegiate football team and scored more than fifty points and allowed only a single touchdown. It seems impossible that a team outside the SEC could have a team with the physical size, athletic ability, speed, and coaching talent could possibly compare to the incomparable Bulldogs. What team could possibly measure up to such a highly vaunted SEC powerhouse?

I think this is absolutely ridiculous. I would understand it if we lost, but come on. Instead of being unsportsmanlike and running up the score on Georgia Southern, we played almost every single player on the team, which means so much to those players who rarely get to play. I knew we were in trouble when ESPN dedicated all of 15 seconds to our game recap on Saturday night. That’s not how a number one team should be treated and not the way USC or Ohio State is ever treated.

The Dawgs just need to worry about winning games. It sounds daunting, but going undefeated with their schedule would put them in the title game. Period. There’s no reason to care about polls right now. Besides, being #1 in the polls at the end of the regular season carries no advantage over being #2. They both get to play for the BCS title. Did it hurt LSU and Florida to finish #2 at the end of the last 2 regular seasons?

By hey insect....its funny

its not funny to me that we dropped to # 2 its tragic…what’s funny to me is that your team is barely in the top 60 now thats funny…course you nerds are running an offense that was last used by teams in the 60’s….shane your #60 or your nerds are anyhow…your typing has the skills of a newborn so your number 0 i guess…laugh alot

First, I agree that the polls mean nada. Any one of the top 10 teams that runs the table will be in the BCS National Championship game. The rankings just provide fodder for the sportscasters and commentators. Dropping out of the media pressure cooker that surrounds being #1 without losing a game, your shot at the SEC title or the National Championship is a blessing.

That being said, the Dawgs did not play like a team prepared to dominate the nation on Saturday. I hope that was simply because the starters did not get enough reps to settle down and establish a consistent rhythm. ESPN was struggling to find highlights to show while the highlights in the USC, Florida, and LSU games were plentiful. I have all confidence that the Dawgs are saving the big plays and dominant performances for the SEC!

Although I am of the Tech group of Georgia fans, the only time I pull against the Bulldogs is of course when they are playing Tech. But, I have never thought the Bulldogs would be better that 10—2 this year The injuries are mounting and too many players have bad character problems. I’ll still be hoping for wins until my Jackets send them looking for a rock to crawl under.

Ok…but for real it is not that bad being No. 2, but I will have to say…look who USC played. Virginia? When was the last time they had a great season? Can’t even tell you when that was and I really don’t care to know. It is the ACC we are talking about. Also Georgia Southern happens to be a pretty good FCS football team, I think they could beat up on Virginia.

In the end though, we will see who will be the champion. Go DAWGS!!!!

decent comment on here for a tech person…ga fans get irritated by some of the nonsensical comments you guys make …..i can hardly bring myself to compliment the tech team because of some of their fans that jealously appear on this blog…personally i think tech is better this year and possibly an acc championship run is in store due to two things …tech has a good coach and the acc is slightly down…clemson obviously is not the best team in the acc or sure didn’t play like it…but on a given saturday with today’s depth in college athletics a coach has got to have their team ready…the dawgs and the jackets will both have good seasons should be fun..good luck

GatorAM- Good blog and you stirred a memory. When I saw the “run up the score” blog it cut both ways. I agreed with the part about Spurrier running up the score, but disagreed that he was the only one. I started to blog the same game you mentioned, but was not confident on the final score. Your blog confirmed it as I had already passed up the chance to confirm historically and didn’t blog.

The UGA 51-Fla 0 game was played in a monsoon and when the players ran, their feet sent up great splashes. Tackling looked like kids playing on a water slide. The key to that game was the footware. UGA (under Dooley and Erk) changed to tennis shoes with no spikes and ran short steps to prevent loosing control and sliding. The gators didn’t respect Kirby Moore’s passing abilities and put 9-10 players on the line to stop our fullback. With mud flying everywhere Kirby would take the snap and flip a pass 5 yds or shorter to a receiver who was taking little choppy short steps crossing the field. The gator defender(s) could not cut and hold in the mud and would go skidding by the player with the ball who by now had straightened his path and flew the greater part of the field in those tennis shoes. I’ll have to go back to see how many yards Kirby threw for that day, but needless to say it was more than he had all year. Our safety(who later played safety for the championship Dolphins) had a career high in interceptions that day and set a record in the SEC, thanks to that game. Good gosh , it was so much fun and even better on replay of game film in the gymnasium to the student body where the year’s games were replayed to hugh cheering. Oh, I forgot myself gatorAM. You probably didn’t get as much of a kick out of it because you thought we were running up the score, but it was just a bunch of Dawgs frolicking in the mud and we forgot the score.

You were correct and thanks for the memory.

Some of you folks love a good conspiracy theory. Let’s just relax and look at reality. It had nothing to do with running up the score or playing your starters, or ESPN highlights or hidden govenment documents.

Ohio State LOST votes. All of which likely went to USC. Florida LOST votes, and nobody got more love than they did over the weekend. Oklahoma LOST votes. And Georgia lost a whopping 2 votes since the loss of thier top lineman on each side of the ball. Is that not fair? Major injuries = 2 votes. The only thing that happened was that preseason the votes were spread out and after a game, USC picked up a few of them. If thier QB had not been banged up they would have been #1 going in, and I doubt anyone would have argued. It’s like some of you have totally forgot how great this is and how difficult its been to get here…in the conversation, in the hunt. (and how close we could have easily been glad to be top 10).

For all the “we got screwed crowd”, you really have to take a breath and asks yourself objectively, what do you see that makes you think that UGA is head over heals, unquestionable, better than anyone else right now. No way could 3 people could think we were only the second best playing team in college football after one week?

Dear GA Bulldog Fans, The USC Trojans like things in triplet or quadruplet. It seems they have every intention of keeping the NC trophy in LA. It is very probable that even as we blog, the Trojan faithful have already submitted the correct spelling of their name which will be placed on the crystal football trophy at the close of the year. Not that the BCS committee really needs the correct spelling, given that the Trojans already have won two NC trophies this decade and the BCS already probably has the 2009 BCS Championship Trophy with USC Trojans correctly spelled, but perhaps it is necessary to remind the BCS committee that USC was generous enough to permit the SEC to win the trophy for a couple of years to allay the fears of the rest of the country that USC won’t always win it.(Just two more times this decade to make the quadruplet) Now, how much fairer could you be? If the SEC behaves itself, it is entirely possible that USC might let you win a couple of more NC trophies at the beginning of the next decade. One must admit that the media has been very kind to let the Georgia Bulldogs be ranked #1 for the first week, just to make it fair. But, take heart, you might even get to play USC in the NC Championship game and if you are good enough sports, they just might let you get a first down, maybe even two and as a bonus for really good sportsmanship, they may even let you score a field goal. Now, how’s that for fairness??

Well Well Well….. My predictions were so close about the OVERRATED Mutts. I predicted UGA wouldn’t score 50 points and that the the score would be 38 - 21. Wow UGA was real scary and didn’t really look that impressive against a notch above a high school team. Suspensions and and lot of GSU freshman playing and UGA was sloppy and the defense struggled. You people who think style points don’t really matter think again! This is why Richt will never win a National Championship at UGA. If UGA was as good as they think they are then GSU wouldn’t have scored 21 points and UGA at the very least would have put up 50 points. BTW maybe Richt should have watched Bama at little closer because his wait and react defense really sucks. Bama man handled Clemson in every phase of the game and will do the same to UGA . Saban is an impressive coach and will win a NC again at BAMA! Bama was aggressive on defense and lined up toe to toe to Clemsons offense with no cushion on their receivers. The Gamecocks will have no problems with UGA and our defense will manhandle the mutts! My next predictions are as follows…. UGA wont score 50 points on C. Mich and UGA will lose 5 games this year…. any wagers? the first UGA loss will be in two weeks when both USCs will win. Yes UGA is # 2….. ha! ha! ha ! FEAR THE SPURR!!!!!!! Gooooooooo GAMECOCKS

To me…it does not really matter. However…there is the potential for one to believe that if you beat a team 52-7 you stand a better chance of leap frogging a team as opposed to just winning by 3 or 4 touchdowns. Thus…you may need to run up the score which is disliked by many.

By robert zenon

Of course not, the DAWGS played a division 1-AA school and won 45-21 and Ohio State didn’t play much better. USC played a non-conference BCS school on the road and won 52-7, sort of the same kind of game LSU played last year with Virgina Tech on the road. They will not play a non BCS conference school all year. Oh and UCLA beat the Vols.

As a tech fan, I must say that UGA did nothing to earn that #1 spot, just like any other preseason #1. It is all speculation at that point. Dropping to #2 doesn’t matter, and might motivate your team to not lose to teams that have no business winning, heres looking at you Tenn.

That being said, to the UGA fans thinking you will go undefeated, dream on. SEC fans love harping on how the SEC is so great and tough, time for it to bite you in the a*. You will lose at least one game, not because you aren’t great, but because the SEC is that tough. Don’t worry, if you aren’t unlucky, you could still make it.

Also, do not overlook GT this year. Yeah, you should beat us soundly, but don’t overlook any team, especially one who is itchin to break a losing skid. Wouldn’t want to lose that title shot to a lowly ACC team right???

Anyways, good luck, and don’t worry about the polls. It won’t matter when Nesbitt takes a knee to run out the clock on your dream season, heh.

I think CMR did exactly the right thing by letting those other guys get some reps. It’ll pay off down the line. There was no use in running the score up on GSU and making them look bad. They have to recruit next year too.

The Gators and Trojans were sending a message to the voters and why? To grab that #1 spot. It indicates a lack of class.

UGA had a guality win. UGA played 3 to 4 strings of players on offense and defense. Coach Richt was not coaching for style points, but trying to get as many players as possible playing time. UGA played 20 freshman, including 10 true freshmen and 10 redshirt freshmen. Most people who voted did not see UGA’s game, but only saw the score. This is another reason why we need a playoff system. The voting is based on opinions from people listen to fools like Lee Corso, etc. Coach Richt did a great job playing guys 3 and 4 strings deep. It will pay off as we get deeper into the season.

As i mention in my post yesterday, USC will heap-frog UGA, wrong, yes, why? Bama(Barnhart), USC, Ohio State and Notre Dame are the media DARLINGS. I will make this prediction, if USC and Ohio State win Saturday, it will be #1, #2, match-up the following week, regardless if UGA win 77-7 same as Clemson beat Central Michigan last year…

Doesn’t matter right now- only matters in December. Reminds me of that story about two guys being approached by an angry bear. One starts taking his shoes off and the other asks why? “Because I run faster barefoot.” First guy says, “You can’t outrun that bear!” Second guy says, “Don’t have to, just have to outrun you.”

Sturdivant and Owens injury has scared off the pollsters as well as USC kicking UVA’s butt. Kind of gives credence to the opinion that most of the pollsters are in fact idiots.

Keep winning and they can’t keep us out away from Miami.

There are no less than five teams whose fans aver that their teams will beat UGA this year. They are: 1. Alabama 2. Tennessee 3. LSU 4. Florida 5. Auburn Every one of these teams are physically talented enough to beat the Dawgs. It is very possible that Georgia could be 7-5 at the close of this season. It is further possible that Georgia Tech could actually beat the Dawgs, too. That could feasibly give the Bulldogs a season record of 6-6. If you still consider their reputation at the beginning of the year, it would still be possible for them to somehow make it to a lesser bowl …or not. Alabama and South Carolina were both 6-6 last year; Alabama made it to a bowl, but South Carolina did not. Maybe UGA can make it to a lesser bowl, too!! How can UGA fans know that any of these wonderful, friendly, and unbiased fans of UGA opponents are all wrong???

TM,

You are smoking crack rocks. By your theory Tech would go 1-11. I dont think that will happen and I know the Dawgs will not lose 5 or 6 games.unless you think pigs can fly, which it seems from your comments you will believe anything if you smoke enough dope.

You know the Dawgs are in for a good run when you see this many haters. Last year it was all those tech dumb butts telling us how they were going to kill everyone after they beat ND. And we know what happened there.

I like the dawgs chances. Will they run the table…probably not. But there is always a chance and LSU proved you dont have to run the table to win a NC.

Have to admit BAMA looked damn good Sat night. They beat the pants off a talent Clemson team.I look forward to playing them(Bama) less than Auburn.Glad we have them at home. Auburn fans, you may be signing the blues after you play the Tide.

Florida looks good too.Not surprised South Cal jumped the Dawgs. As someone said early the Dawgs can beat C mich 77-0 and it will not matter osu and usc will be 1 and 2 the week they play. The networks will demand it.

Get ready for a fun ride. This season is going to be incredible.I like the Dawgs chances.

Oh,almost forgot… And to hell with Ga Tech! They still play football I think.

The answer to TJ’s question is not only did USC whip up on Auburn and Arkansas in the last several years, but also UCLA beat TN and Alabama and Cal embarrassed TN last year. Mighty LSU need 3 missed PATs to beat Oregon State and a Hail Mary to beat ASU. Conspicuously absent from these intersectional games - UGA and FL. No respect until you have a home/home with real teams. At least AD Damon has finally figured it out. If ASU beats UGA I think the SEC is best talk can be held in abeyance until next season (that means suspended SEC grads). Lastly, how does the SEC compare to PAC 10 in overall sports championships, Olympic medals and SAT scores? Losers again.

War Eagle ….if UGA Scored 70 points this past weekend also without the stupid , senseless penalties and would do the same this weekend , they would be # 1 or # 2. by the time they would play my Gamecocks. But UGA don’t have the horses yet to do it. Clemson does beat the lesser teams brains out, but when its crunch time, they choke against the middle of the road teams in div 1. UGA plays to every teams level. This however will eventually catch up with them and could happen again this year as did a couple of years ago.

Never deserved to be #1. Despite the local media campaign Georgia and Arizona State remain the two most overrated teams in America. Don’t be surprised to see Richt throw a three loss season up. If they could have possibly padded their schedule with anyone else besides the likes of GSU and Central Michigan we would see even more exposure. When the next can of asswhup is opened lets let go of this national championship dribble - Ga wouldnt stay on the field with USC or Oklahoma or Missouri very long.

It is only mildly probable that UGA wins one more game. That will possibly come this weekend when Central Michigan goes to Athens and lays a golden egg in Stanford Stadium. Georgia will probably lose the rest of their games. The reason is…poll fatigue. They could not take the pressure of being #1 for even one week. All it took to drop from this highly coveted spot was a sorry performance. They were too nervous after GA. Southen scored on them and continued to score on them. Actually, if you scored it by quarters, GA. Southern actually won the last quarter. That’s right; GA Southern scored 21 points to GA’s 7. That’s a two touchdown advantage in one quarter!! And why did this happen? Simply because they cannot take the pressure. It’s not too unlike losing last year to South Carolina and Tennessee. During those games, the Dawgs just choked and their is going to be a lot morer choking this year! It’s possible that they could beat Central Michigan, but they probably won’t. The rest of the games, the Dawgs will be overmatched and will not be able to take the pressure. It’s easy to see how they folded to GA Southern when the Eagles scored on them so easily. They just choked. It was easy for GA Southern to score on the Dawgs… that’s 3 touchdowns in less than a quarter. Any local girl scout team could have done the same given the loss of confidence that the Dawgs experienced. My… what a killer defense the Dawgs will have this year. How many touchdowns could Florida have scored against the Dawgs given this tendancy to choke….35 or 40. Tennesse scored 28 points on them in the first quarter of last year and only the abundant mercy of Coach Fulmer kept it from being more. UGA is in deep trouble. And last year Coach Spurrier’s team tried to be exceedingly generous and give UGA the ballgame by playing about as sorry as the Dawgs, but the Dawgs I suppose just weren’t accustomed to such generosity and choked in that one, too. The best this team can hope for is that the opponents will be kind and generous. The national polls have been excessively generous in teasing UGA with such an exagerated rating. 1-10 will diminish their recruiting possibilities, but maybe next year they can possibly win 4 games.

All this talk of who has class, who runs up scores, is getting pretty silly. It’s not a matter of class, it’s strategy. So and so decided to run the starters longer, big deal? Maybe they had more questions about thier starters than UGA did. The fact that everyone else lost more of thier fist place votes to USC than UGA did kinda shoots a hole in the theory that it really mattered.

Did you even wonder why UGA seems to get stronger as the year goes on and some others fade. Could it be playing reserves early and often? He didn’t play the 3rd guys to be kinder, gentler. He played them because we all want to beat LSU and UF a couple of month from now, and thats what it takes.

And for the guy who called coach a Puzsy because he didnt leave the starters in longer,………that can’t see that GSU scoring ON our backups proved EXACTLY WHY they needed to get the work, let me guess, you’d be the first in line to blast if depth cost us a game.

Georgia got what they needed out of the game. They are young, and they were working out kinks against a Div II school. USC didn’t seem to have any kinks against a Div I team. It’s simple. YOU ARE JUST DUMB AND BORING, GO FIND SOMETHING TO DO WITH YOURSELF.

We don’t need a book from you. Some of the other fans on here really need to worry about own team and hope that they do not have injuries and anything else. I’m so sick of other fans downing the UGA players and fans. GET A LIFE AND BE A FAN TO YOUR TEAM. GROW THE HELL UP MEN WHO ACT LIKE BOYS. Being a red head woman I have no problem telling men that say something about my UGA clothes how to !!!! off.

USC will win the NC only if they don’t play an SEC team for the title. I hate to say this, but only one other team looked as doninant last week and that was Florida. And they weren’t at full-strength. I sure as h3ll hope we make it to the game, but if we don’t, I hope an SEC team gets the chance to smack USC’s pretty boys in the mouth.

The problem with ranking teams in polls is that each voter works on his or her own criteria. There are no standards.

Some say strength of schedule for the Dogs is toughest in nation and that this should give the teams points in rankings. Yet others rank the Dogs lower because, “There is no way they can win a NC with that schedule” they say.

I’ve heard people say UGA shouldn’t be ranked #1 because they lost two key players. Yet just last year, ranked teams lost key players and all that mattered was wins and losses. People rank by what they predict a team will do. They rank by perceived toughness of schedule. They rank by injuries, by the public relations work of coaches…they rank by considering important game matchups. It really is based on subject, inconsistent and bias crap.

The last time it really mattered who was best, UGA or USC, the Trojans could have played the dawgs in the Rose Bowl on New Years Day. The Rose Bowl picked Illinois and NOT A PEEP out of the Trojans about WANTING to play the BEST TEAM! All they had to do was tell the committee they wanted to play Georgia and it would have happened. It’s what everyone wanted—except the TROjans!!!!

I am so tired of these polls and voters. Georgia plays an in-state rival every four years to help GSU’s program grow and then they get penalized for it. What a bunch of crap! When does Georgia open up against IAA opponents — like never. As the season goes along Georgia’s schedule becomes much more difficult than USC’s patsy PAC 10 schedule — the voters had better return the favor to Georgia then, or we’ll all know the whole thing is rigged. I hope this gets the Dawgs mad — they can take it out on CMU.

Cuz, sorry for your loss. Lost my mom to cancer when I was 18….am 44 now. Don’t let these idiots get to ya. It’s tough to go through the young adult life without your mom…..but you suck it up and deal with it!! Our boys Shane, Alt, Kali and I know a few others have got our back. This is my favorite time of the year…regardless of things. Love to see the rankings…….and love the banter.

I think me and my boys are not the guys to dog your other conferences and other teams. I may be wrong……but I’m going on past blogs. As some of you wish us a good season, there’s a few of us that wish you the same. But please don’t be a hater…….just because I post something decent…..I can be as much of an azzhole as any blogger on here. I’m sure I’ll catch sh!t from some of my boys!!

I guess we were supposed to embarrass and humiliate Georgia Southern and beat them 80-0. I guess we were supposed to keep the first string in the entire game instead of getting the rest of the guys some game time. CR is a class act. He managed the game the way it’s supposed to be done. You put up enough points to win the game then play the 2nd, 3rd and 4th string to get them game time. But, unfortunately, you score “style” points by beating your opponent into submission. I’m so glad we have a coach with class like Mark Richt. Pete Carroll doesn’t have enough class to clean up the parking lots in Athens after the games. He’s worthless.

Virginia is Ranked No. 82 in the BCS Rankings today, and the ACC is so bad that only Weak Forest is ranked in any Top 25 Poll and them not in the Top 19 of any Poll.

Phillip Fulmer, when they zoomed in on him last night, looks very old. Elderly, getting on in years, and having a sorry coached football team, does not look good to recruits. I will not be the only person with this observation. It is what I saw.

Georgia is No. 3 in the first BCS Ratings pages. Both Ohio State and Southern California are ahead of us. We dropped from No. 1 to No. 2 in both the USA Today Coaches’ Poll and in the AP Poll. The BCS Computer Polls currently have us at No. 7 worse than both LSU and Florida.

Tennessee dropped out of the Top 25 of every single Poll. There are, however, still 6 SEC teams in the Top 25 as South Carolina moved into both the AP Poll and USA Today Coaches’ Poll at Number 24.

Despite 4 first half interceptions by PAC-10 UCLA 3rd string QB, the vols did nothing on Offense. While it appeared that the vols had a great OL, in fact, they do not. The vols’ Defense was even worse, if that is possible. When UCLA’s Defense was tired, the vols’ was even more tired and out of condition as the game wore on. Special Teams for the vols’ were not special at all. With the suspension of the Punter Britton Colquitt for the first five (5) games for multiple arrests and the pitiful kicking by Daniel Lincoln who missed 4 of 5 field goal attempts all of which Blair Walsh would have made, the vols lost the game on Special Teams and on Defense when the vols simply could not stop UCLA’s 3rd string QB.

The worst news of all for the vols is the interview by vols’ Starting QB Jonathan Crompton, a Junior. Crompton said after the loss that it didn’t matter, that the vols’ goals for the season are all still intact, and that all that matters is The SEC games.

No SEC Championship since 1998 for Fulmer. No BCS game since 1999 for Fulmer. Not been ranked in the Top 10 since 2001, Fulmer needs to speak with his QB that just perhaps his goals and the goals of Phillip Fulmer, are decidedly not in tune with each other.

The 4 SEC Teams in the Top 10 are all still in the Top 10 with Auburn moving up to Number 9 yesterday in the AP Poll.

Tennessee is generally considered today to be in the 2nd bottom half of The SEC again.

Not a contender for anything.

Vols’ Running Back Arian Foster who was arrested and was kicked off the team for games last season, this season as a Senior was being hyped and touted by the vols’ as the up-and-coming replacement for the vols’ all-time leading rusher. He would pass this season Travis Henry who has 9 children with 9 different women and Jamal Lewis who was found guilty of a drug deal for millions of dollars and kicked out of the NFL for many games over that arrest as well. Arian Foster will fit right in with that Fulmer Running Back history. Won’t he ?

ESPN is still showing 51 former Bulldogs in the NFL today. The Opening Day rosters are still be jockeyed around on their 53-man rosters. For example, yesterday still the Falcons determined that Tony Gilbert is better at LB than Tony Taylor and of course Mike Smith coached Tony Gilbert before and knows he can tackle and didn’t suffer the injury that Tony Taylor did.

The SEC won 10 games Week 1 and the PAC-10 won only 7, although the only Conference The SEC had a losing record against is the PAC-10 (so far to-date.)

UCLA did not make it into the Top 25 of the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, beating an also ran in The SEC, who for example has not been ranked ahead of UGA in the AP Poll for 7 Consecutive Seasons Straight, and counting.

Alabama is 13 in the AP and 17 in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll.

In the BCS Rankings today, The SEC has Georgia 3, Florida 4, LSU 6, Auburn 10, and Alabama 15 for Five (5) SEC Teams in the Top 15 of the BCS Rankings today too.

PAC-10 has 1 of the BCS Top 13, while The SEC has its Four (4) in the Top 10.

Arizona State is No. 14 in the BCS Rankings today, and is No. 15 in the AP Poll. UGA plays Arizona State at Arizona State 2,050 miles straight out I-20 changing its name to I-10 on the trip 3 weeks from today later this month before we then face Alabama the week after.

UGA is playing No. 24 in both the AP Poll and in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina team the week before we play Arizona State.

This week UGA faces 2-time Defending MAC Champion Central Michigan at 3:30 p.m. on FSS HDTV. Fox Sports South.

We obviously, unfortunately, have a lot more injuries ahead in this schedule considered to be the toughest in the nation of all BCS Bowl Game Contenders, as we also had the toughest schedule in the nation last season 2007-2008 of all BCS Bowl Game Participants. Our goals are far bigger than the lousy quarterback Phillip Fulmer considers his Starting Quarterback, a Junior whom I guess we have to watch all next season too. Eric Berry would be a lot better Quarterback for the next 3 seasons instead, as I stated here before the season started.

69 Bulldog Football Players made it into the game. It is, according to the Polls better to have Beanie Wells injured and unable to play at full strength for their only football game all season Saturday week when they face Southern California. I think as the season progresses that Coach Richt is correct that in fact it is better to have played 69 Bulldogs in Game 1. In case anyone cannot calculate what playing 69 players means in the Win 45-21 over Georgia Southern who beat Appalachian State after they beat Michigan. What it means is that Coach Richt played 3rd and some 4th strings. He also would not let Logan Gray for example, throw a pass – even though obviously he would have liked to have. A Christian doesn’t do that.

I’m sorry, he does not. Not when he was up 38-0 when he called off The Dawgs.

You can’t be the #1team with some of the fashion choices of your fans.

Saw a guy downtown in Athens on Saturday wearing Red AND Black slacks on. Mama taught me not to stare, but this time I stared, pointed and laughed.

He looked like the d@mn joker. Fittingly for UGA’s team, of course, as they are a big joke.

WHY SO SERIOUS?

Hey BuLLdawg- I’m not too impressed with the anti-Fulmer notes. He is Tenn’s cross to bear and not ours. Methinks you are a Bama fan hiding under our flag. I don’t like the smack from Tenn fans (which is more legitimate than yours) so quit encouraging it. If you have never heard of Norm Chow, then you should aquaint yourself. He is considered by most coaches and those who know football to be the best offensive mind in college football. That and the 2-min. offense by UCLA is what beat Tenn, not Fulmer. Neuheisel is no slouch, either. He gave his assistants the credit for halftime adjustments to a QB who had outright failed in the first half. Tenn had better manpower according to the recruiting networks and their star system, but the quality I love more than anything in college football is passion and the confidence it gives for players to excel beyond their wildest dreams. UCLA had that at the end of the game.

I also disliked Tenn’s loss to Pac-10, but we had better get our ducks in a row before heading to ASU by way of So. Car.. They both are capable of pulling a UCLA on our Dawgs if we don’t give a supreme effort. You had better research your opponents closely this year because smack ain’t going to deliver the goods. Screw the other teams and get behind the Dawgs. How must Tenn’s kicker feel after that game and now ? He may come back and kick the winning field goal on us. Tenn and UGA have always had pride in their kickers. After kicking a 47-yarder to tie the game, he comes back and misses a 34-yarder to lose the game. The mark of a boy transitioning to a man is how he lifts himself off the ground after such a fall. I, for one wish him all the luck he may afford his team. Just think, he has to face family and friends after this letdown and will be forever linked in history with this loss to an unranked team. Was So. Car. ranked when they beat our superior recruits last year? And I won’t mention the other team that trounced our butts last year. Get a grip everyone, we have trouble ahead. Why don’t we use some of our blogging energy to talk to Jeff and Trinton now since they are suffering more for us than anyone. At least let them know we care about them as individuals when the are not in uniform on the field.

UgaVII-Get up you lazybones! We need you. And do something about your face. You party too much. Go work out with the team more.

I commented on another blog here a while back and I predicted UGA would win by about 3 scores. Just like they have every other time we’ve played them.

Huge shocker. I’m SO sore about this loss.

Moreover, my point was that the HYPE around the UGA program has gotten so out of control that idots are willing to wear something that would pass for circus clothing. It’s fratistrophic…

The recent poll on ajc “should UGA run up the score” and 62% of Dwg fans said No they shouldn’t????????????? get your head out of yer axe Dawg fans. This is a contest voted on by peopel all ove the country, our best shot at winning it all is to winand win IMPRESSIVELY, period. Enough of this “just win and everything will fall into place” Tell that to an undefeated Auburn of a few years ago, that got snubbed. What if the season ends up with 2 or 3 or 4 undefeated teams, sure our schedule will hold up to scrutiny, but giving up not covering the spread too much will hurt us. WIN & WIN BIG is the only way to glory.

Jeez…Things got nasty on here. I will first say im a GT fan, but honestly, can we ALL stop with the Nambla, profile hijacking, gay, racist, and just all around derogatory remarks? These blogs are turning into complete and utter garbage.

UGA’s record will determine if they get in the MNCG or not. They play too many quality teams for “style” points to matter.

Seriously guys, lets try to go 1 DAY without hijacking names, NAMBLA meetings, and threatening to find each other and kick each other’s as$es on BOTH blogs.
