UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Georgia’s well represented in NFL

One of the biggest differences in Georgia football today and 10 years ago is the number of players the Bulldogs are pumping into the NFL.

Now Georgia has always produced NFL players. But the quality and the quantity has increased dramatically in recent years. Credit needs to go first to former coach Jim Donnan, who started to bring in a different breed of Bulldog in the late 1990s. But coach Mark Richt took the baton and has really run with it over the last several years.

In 2007 Georgia led all SEC schools (and the SEC led all other conferences) with 37 former players on NFL rosters. FWIW, the Dogs were followed by Tennessee (36), LSU (33), Florida (31), Auburn (30), Alabama (21), South Carolina (19), Ole Miss (17), Miss. State (17), Arkansas (12), Kentucky (6) and Vanderbilt (5). Perhaps Georgia’s most impressive stat regarding the NFL is 15 former Bulldogs have helped their teams reach the Super Bowl in just the last five years, including Super Bowl MVP Hines Ward. Ward is one of three Super Bowl MVPs UGA has produced, including Terrell Davis and Jake Scott.

Numbers for 2008 haven’t been calculated yet because rosters haven’t been determined yet but, the point is, Georgia puts a lot of players in the NFL. Which brings us to this weekend’s topic.

Everybody knows quarterback Matthew Stafford and tailback Knowshon Moreno are destined to end up on NFL rosters and we talked about fullback Brannan Southerland’s prospects just yesterday. But what other players on the Bulldogs’ current roster do you think will end up having pro careers? Let’s not limit it to seniors and draft-eligible juniors and sophomores. Let’s go ahead and include everybody all the way down to true freshmen.

Obviously you’d have to put somebody like freshman wideout A.J. Green in such a group. But what about Tavarres King and Mohamed Massaquoi? Who’s the better NFL running back prospect, Caleb King or Richard Samuel? Who’s the best prospect on the offensive line? What about the defense? Free safety Reshad Jones, who is draft eligible because he’s a redshirt sophomore, looks like he may be a great pro prospect.

I’ll say this: Georgia looks to have a lot of pro prospects on this year’s squad. Of course, there are always surprises both ways, some that you didn’t think would make it and some can’t-misses that whiff. Let me know what you think.

REMEMBER, PRACTICE UPDATES COMING LATE THIS AFTERNOON.

As far as the young guys go, Rennie Curran will play OLB in the NFL, I think, no question. Trinton S., Ben Jones, Kiante Tripp all on the O-line. Samuel seems to have the tools to be a prototype NFL back, but that doesn’t mean Caleb won’t make it wither as a utility back, ala Reggie Bush. Jeff Owens and Geno Atkins for certain, although I’m less sure about the DEs. I have a feeling MoMass won’t get much love come draft season, but might end up being a steal as a free agent or a late second day pick and might produce well as a possesion type for a team that utilizes the right schemes. But I agree that probably the best bet, beyond the two obvious is Reshad Jones. He’s like Ed Reed talent with even a tad more speed.

There are several NFL prospects on the O-line. How many players do we have that are at least 6’4” and 300 lbs. or more. All of these are also talented; they’re not just big blobs. That’s why the loss of Sturdivant will hurt, but it won’t be a devastating blow. We have NFL prospects at nearly every position, even placekicker.

First and Foremost i think you have to give so much credit to all the Assistant coaches that coached under Jim Donnan and the Assistant coaches that coached under Mark Richt, these are the coaches that really lay down the foundation for all the players who played at UGA and play now in the NFL. I think we lose sight of what really goes on in a Big time college program, and the head coach definately does not nurture and mold all the players into who they are and what they become. So even though Mark Richt is the head coach we cant just give him all the credit for guys getting to the NFL. For Example Tony Gilbert and Boss Bailey, they played 2 years under Coach Richt so should they thank Coach Richt or Coach jim Donnan, Personally i think they should thank Brian Vangorder he was the mastermind behind the defense that they played in and made all those plays. And what about the Arnord Harrisons who didnt even play that much at UGA but has stayed in the NFL, i know it may sound like i am upset but i really dont think Mark Richt deserves all the praise, I think God, the parents of the men and the University for giving these men an opportunity of a life time to play big college football.

Get over yourselves BULLDOG NATION. Ya’ll are a pretender. Im tired of hearing and reading this crap. At this rate by next week we will be reading about a legit argument trying to compare your program to the likes of USC, which is just a joke. And btw, you are 4-6 against your own division in the conference in the last 2 years. Not exactly dominant I would say, and one of those 4 wins was a last second field goal against the mighty commodores of vanderbilt last year to avoid losing 2 in a row to them, after which your team proceeded to stomp on Vanderbilt’s logo…pretty pathetic. Obviously this is a team used to winning. Can’t wait to see them fall on their face this year.

If Georgia has produced so many NFL prospects(more than any other SEC team), then why no Nat’l Championships? The article is kind of bitter sweet if you asked me. Too much talent through the years for no championship trophies. Maybe it will come together this year. Maybe not. We have a shot….but will we do it? Coming from a die hard(often critical Bulldog fan), I just don’t know.

I am not surprised about the Dawgs great success in the NFL. I just found out that Marcus Howard is with the Colts. He was a beast last year, and it was hard seeing him leave. The Colts will be lucky to have him.

Nearly every starter on this year’s defense has a great shot at playing in the NFL. The only exceptions may be the defensive ends, but I still believe they have what it takes. On the offensive side I have to say basically every starting linemen and most of the back-ups have a great chance. Stafford and Knowshon are easily getting in, and Massaquoi will probably get a chance in a late round. The other receivers, with the exception of Green if he progresses properly, will have to work at it; though they are all good players at their respective positions. I think Southerland makes it in even though the FB is a dying breed. Finally, TE Chandler and Figgins will be in THE LEAGUE. Go Dawgs!

Jeff Patton,

You can make all the excuses you want. I know I have. Fact is, dropped passes by Terrance Edwards, bla, bla, bla….and we have won the whole thing with sending more players to the NFL than anyone. That either means we are damn unlucky(which I tend to agree with you on) or don’t have the coaches. Now settle down there…Richt is the man and I hope he stay decades, no championship or not.

BUT WE STILL ARE NOT WINNING THESE THINGS WHEN OUR BITTER RIVALS OF UT AND UF ARE!

I’m just ready for us to do it, that’s all. I’ve been a Bulldog my whole life.

And BTW, I grew up in Marietta. Charlotte is just where the job is at the moment.

UGA is indeed a major feeder for the NFL, and this year’s roster is proof of such. Of this year’s starters, I could forsee 8-10 drafted & 15-20 playing in the NFL. Stafford will be the #1 pick when he comes out (barring injury), YOshawn will be a top 5 pick (barring injury) & AJ Green has the potential to be a top 5 pick as well. As alluded to yesterday, Southerland is a total stud & one of the top RBs in the SEC (top FB in the nation) & should be utilized ALOT more this season. GO DAWGS!!!!

To “question”: Please try and not be a moron for two seconds. Just about anyone who has paid any attention to college football for the last year understands that the Dawgs are ranked so high because they turned things around starting with the thumping of Florida last year. Any Bulldog worth his salt will tell you the program wasn’t really moving in the right direction to that point. But closing out a season on a 7 game win streak while pounding your SEC opponents to smitherenes will do wonders for your program’s reputation. No one was questionsing the Dawgs’ No. 2 ranking after thrashing Hawaii at the end of the season, and preseason rankings are all about momentum from the previous season and returning starters. UGA has both of those things in your favor. Clearly you are an opposing fan (I suspect a Nerd) who is looking for a reason to hate on the Dawgs, so you go back two years and say “why is such an average team getting rewarded?” You could just as easily go back ten years and say why has UGA not been getting more respect considering they have the most wins of any SEC team during that time. Bottom line is if we aren’t No. 1, it will show on the field. Stop being a hater and let the season play out.

By Kendawg

August 22, 2008 3:06 PM | Link to this

You get ranked #1 by being a team with young skill players who win their last seven games, blasting Florida and Auburn in the process, and destroying the media favorite, Hawaii, in the Sugar Bowl. It helps to have 16 returning starters, among whom are a maturing quarterback and one of the best tailbacks in the country. Also it doesn’t hurt to have the best fullback in the nation. If you’re looking for an NFL-type defensive end, wait until Cornelius Washington matures. He’s going to be another along the line of Pollack, Moses, and Charles Johnson.

Ohio St Buckeyes and all of you other Dawg haters. Get off of the blog. UGA is much better than your pathetic little teams. That’s why we are able to recruit better and get the best QB’s and RB’s out of the state of Florida, which has like seven or more teams.

SEC Owns the Buckeyes.

Also, LSU shouldn’t have even been in the NC Game last year. How do you jump from ranked six to #2. Any other week in the season, it wouldn’t have happened.

Sounds like a conspiracy to me.

Chip, I have to correct you.

The book Trippi wrote the forward to, and what it is about, is the Fifty Best PLAYS in Bulldog History.

Plays. Not players.

So expect to see P-38 Haynes and Run, Lindsey, Run, in the book.

What they’ve done is interview players and coaches, and diagrammed each play, how it was supposed to work, if it worked out that way (P-38 Haynes) or if it didn’t exactly work out the way it was diagrammed (Run, Lindsey, Run) and stuff like that.

It should be a really neat book, and a definite get for all football-philes in Bulldog Nation.

There’s a lotta luck involved in everything falling right for the BCS game. If it comes, great, if not, oh well. I don’t use that silly game to determine anything. I mean THE Ohio State University has played in the damn thing countless times, how legit could it be? The BCS is a joke. Always will be. Oklahoma won their conference championship game against a tougher, higher ranked opponent than LSU and they jumped them too.

I don’t understand that.

I don’t even think that TN was ranked at the time, but I can’t argue that we loss to them. We played a horrible game.

btw. LSU didn’t want to play us in the SEC Championship Game and you struggled against TN.

You shouldn’t have been in that game!!!

If LSU had played UGA in the SEC CHampionship Game, they would have gotten pounded. Can you speak truth and tell me otherwise?

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m an SEC Man and would want an SEC team in the NC, but LSU really wasn’t better than UGA. The just happen to play in the WEAK SEC West.

Hey WildCat, I checked out that website you posted. Very nice facility. Just pray your stupid, obnoxious, retard cajun fans don’t trash it and break window out while they’re throwing bottles of beer, liquor and urine on the opposing fans and buses for the athletes. PRACTICE UPDATE

Georgia going 18 periods this afternoon under cloudy skies and very, very slight drizzle. Originally listed otherwise, they’re going in full pads but don’t appear to be hitting too much… . We only got two periods on the field today so not a lot to report. So …

Injuries: Haven’t heard anything on the extent of Charles White’s Achilles injury yet but I’m sure we’ll get an update from CMR after practice. That’ll be kind of late this evening but I’ll let you know as always…

Some frontline players remain in green and out of practice, most notably, TB Caleb King, DT Kade Weston and RG Tanner Strickland. All three are backups at important positions. We’ll find out more later.

S&C assistant Keith Gray provided us with more details on weight room and conditioning exploits this summer. These are the guys that set records at their positions this summer:

Safety Reshad Jones (3): bench (415), back squat (585) and power-clean (350);

Offensive tackle Kiante Tripp (3): back squat (645), P-C (374), 40-yard dash (4.82);

Offensive guard Tanner Strickland (2): back squat (700), P-C (380);

Center Ben Jones (2): back squat (600), P-C (331);

CB Asher Allen: P-C (335);

DE Justin Houston: P-C for frosh (375);

DT Geno Atkins: 40-yard dash (4.69);

FB Shaun Chaps: P-C (400);

TB Richard Samuel: P-C (387).

More updates later.

POST-PRACTICE UPDATE

CMR said he was so disappointed after watching yesterday’s practice game on video last night that he decided they would do the whole thing over today. But this time it was going to be full speed, full contact. So that explains why they weren’t in shells.

“We played every snap live and I was very pleased with the attitude this time,” Richt said after the 45-play scrimmage followed by a brief practice. “I was pretty mad with the team yesterday but I feel better now. I think it was pretty good medicine for everybody.” …

Some notes:

White’s injury bad: CMR said the Achilles injury suffered by LB Charles White was a rupture. “It’ll definitely end his season,” Richt said. “He’ll probably need surgery to repair it. Normally it’s about a six-month rehab.” …

No new injuries after Friday’s hard-knocking scrimmage, so that was good… .

Richt not down on Caleb: TB Caleb King sat out Friday and will also miss Saturday with a hamstring injury. But Richt said he’s not concerned nor does it take King out of the running for second-team. “Most everybody’s going to give it a rip next week,” he said, referring also to sidelined players DT Kade Weston and OG Tanner Strickland. As for Caleb’s battle with Fr. Richard Samuel to backup Knowshon Moreno, he said, “It may be a Thursday decision. He’s not out the running… . If he doesn’t come back maybe we’ll get him the next game. It’s a long season and he has a long career ahead of him.”

The complete notes package will be posted on the UGA page soon.

They define thier college football experience as it relates to UGA. Our guys play a 12 game schedule. Thier team plays only one game that matters. We talk about Georgia Football all the time, they talk about Georgia football all the time. We own them. We know it, they know it. We point it out to them, they don’t care. We suggest they take more pride in thier own school, worry more about whats goes on in thier own back yard, they can not. It because we own them.

After reading T.Barnhart’s article about how Arizona State is gearing up for the BIG GAME with UGA .. here is a quote from the article …”It’s a real big deal,” Carpenter said. “This is something that is unique for our program. Georgia is No. 1 in the country and obviously they are a talented team. Our fans are fired up. We all want to see how we’re going to do against that caliber of competition.

“When an SEC team comes to your place, it’s a big deal.” I’m bringing this up because I just got my ASU season tix today in the mail and wondered if there were still tix available and guess what…THERE ARE!!! ( ASU’s season tix cost me …are you SITTING DOWN for this?… $99 + 50 contribution… for this I received 7 single game tix that cost …GASP $14.16!!! … if its such a BIG GAME then why are there still tix available less than a month away?!! I have to tell you that when I called the ticket office to place my order the 1st week of August..the 1st thing the rep. said to me was…”you’re asking about the Georgia game?” and I said yeah..how did you know…and she just said that almost all the calls have been from Georgia fans!! I dont know if we will have a split like 50/50 but its sounding like its gonna be close to it…So if you are still wanting tix for the game then go to their website www.thesundevils.com or call 480-727-0000 (option 1) … now that I have passed that along..back to our regularly scheduled program… lets ALL focus on Georgia Southern.. we cant be 12-0 without first being 1-0 !

NO jobs, NO future, Four ohio cities were in the top 10 that were listed in the Wall Street Journal as dying because of people leaving the state. We do hate that because they are coming to Georgia! PBR, I drank enough of that brand while I was still in high school. The only way to drink it is at no warmer than 35 degrees or on draft. The warmer it gets, the worst it tastes to me. Sam Adams, I can drink one, but by the end of it I am ready for a Bud, Miller Lite, Coors Light, Bud Light, I think you get the picture. I vary up my beer purchases because I have a broken nose and very little sense of taste. I would love to say I got the broken nose playing for the Dawgs back in the eighties, but that would be a lie, and not part of my twelve step program. I did break it during college at UGA though, just nothing heroic. The Buckeye is good for a laugh. I mean anyone who thinks the Big Ten and Ohio State football is America’s best is always great for a laugh. I celebrate my 1/16 Jewish heritage on this blog every day. I “Passover” the idiots and read the posts of my favorites and the non-regular contributors. Dr. Chip Towers told me it would help with my sanity. Chip,

You are right, more quality and quantity of NFL prospects for the Dawgs under Richt.

UGA recruits top 10 and sometimes top 5 talent, has an excellent staff developing the players (jury still out with Eason and the WR’s) but DL, DE, LB, DB, QB, RB, and OL are all being developed well at UGA.

The difference in quality of player has translated into more wins, conference championships, BCS bowl appearances and top 10 and top 5 finishes almost every year and now at least a #1 PRESEASON ranking.

Recruiting DOES matter.

By I-DOG

August 23, 2008 10:32 AM | Link to this

Get Overyourselves and question:

Stats can be misleading and yours are. To counter that, did you realize that UGA has the LONGEST SEC game winning streak of ANY team in the SEC? UGA has won more consecutive SEC games than LSU, TN, FL, AL, Auburn and the rest. Pretty impressive in the best conference!

Why UGA #1 preseason? THEY FINISHED LAST YEAR AT #2 and return 17 starters. Of course, they are going to be ranked in the top 5 by all and #1 by some.

Charlotte Dawg: Why no national titles yet under Richt? They are hard to get. Every year 5-10 teams across the country have similar highly talented teams and many play softer schedules, UGA has come close in finishing 2nd and 3rd during Richt’s tenure and hopefully we will break through sooner than later.

I live in Paulding County, and think maybe you’re being a bit rough on us.

Last week we got indoor plumbing. If the Good Lord’s willing, and the creeks don’t rise, by next summer we’ll have enough money saved to go on vacation to the Huntsville Space Museum. Things were tough this year we had to limit our family trip to a half day at Muscidine Junction, buying fireworks and pecan logs (they had a bunch of them on sale after they bought out the ones that were left after the Stuckeys fire in Heflin.)

We had a big time after Church on Sunday, we went 4-wheelin’ on the old mountain field roads off Braswell Mountain, draining mudholes and scouting places to set out some rabbit boxes… Thats where I met my wife twenty years ago… I asked her if she had ever been to the drive in and wrestled her way through a double feature, and the rest is history.

Actually, there have been four (4) former UGA players who are in fact MVP of the NFL Championship Game, including Charley Trippi who was the Number 1 Draft Pick in the Number 1 Round of the NFL, and took his Chicago team to the Championship Game, Won the Game and was MVP of the NFL Championship Game. There is no school ever who has produced in fact 4 MVP of the NFL Championship Game.

I presume Chip Towers that if we were to say that today there are 20 more former UGA Bulldogs currently on NFL rosters today than there were to start the 2007 season, which is the 37 you listed above for the most in The SEC that that does not matter because you said ” that if a player makes the NFL, that that does NOT make them a Star.

As for this gem of yours in the last blog Chip ” no-huddle from Georgia… only as a change of pace. Nowadays they prefer to take their time, size up the defense and run or pass based on what the defense shows or what’s working. ” You are equally incorrect Chip Towers, as UGA will run the NO-HUDDLE every play this season forward. We know how to run it, and will take advantage of this rule change.

Jeez Louise, how could you miss that ?

I’d also like to point out that this is Steve Spurrier’s 4th season at South Carolina and that Spurrier has Won exactly once.

Coach Richt is 5-2 against South Carolina and 2-1 against Steve Spurrier at South Carolina. What Spurrier had at Florida was Number 1 Draft Picks every single season at Florida. What Spurrier has not had at South Carolina, are players, as Coach Richt continues to go into South Carolina and recruit the Top Football Players in the State of South Carolina away from Steve Spurrier, which is what I said would happen, before SOS took the gig there.

Arizona State played a very weak Strength of Schedule, SoS Number 49 AZ State, while UGA had SoS Number 7. Your Senior QB Rudy Carpenter was SACKED 52 TIMES LAST YEAR against this Number 49 “strength of Schedule. “ Rudy Carpenter needs to worry more about beating some team who is any good than taking the sack to make his stats look better in completion percentage, and you know it. Denis Erickson was blown out, as a direct result, in the Holiday bowl losing by 3 touchdowns in the Holiday bloody bowl. Arizona State beat NOT 1 DAMN TEAM who was in the Final AP Poll Top 25. Not 1. While The SEC had 5 Teams Ranked in the Final AP Poll Top 15 teams, the Pac-10 had 1.

UGA ended up Number 2 AP Poll and Arizona State Number 16, worse than 5 SEC teams.

Arizona State plays in a damn weak, 1-team conference.

Congratulations on playing UGA at your stadium with only 62,875 attendance the vast majority of which don’t give a crap about your football games, and thus UGA will be very well represented at your stadium 2,050 miles from our own, as we purchased season tickets for $100 dollars to watch that 1 game. We threw the rest of the tickets away.

Mike Bobo, Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks’ Coach at UGA, was hired as Coach Richt’s Quarterbacks’ Coach as Coach Richt’s first hire for his Staff 7 years ago. He has coached the All-Time Winningest Quarterback ever in NCAA Bowl Subdivision Quarterbacks, has two (2) already Quarterbacks on NFL rosters today, Won The SEC Championship twice, and while he was Our Starting Quarterback at UGA set The All-Time UGA Quarterback Record with 65 Percent Completion Percentage in 1997 leading UGA to a TOP 10 FINAL AP POLL RANKING and UGA has been in the Final AP Poll every single solitary year starting with this Top 10 Finish in 1997.

By ............................................BuLLdawg

Arizona State has won exactly 3 bowl games starting 1997 when Mike Bobo was Our UGA Quarterback his Senior Season. 3. You have Lost 5, including your blow-out in your Last Game.

Mike Bobo Won his bowl game in 1997, MVP 26 of 28 for the game and 19 consecutive completions, and UGA has Won 9 Bowl Games starting with Mike Bobo’s Performance.

9-2 UGA in bowl games starting with Mike Bobo and Arizona State 3-5.

Arizona State has been ranked 3 times in the Final AP Poll starting with Mike Bobo’s Senior UGA Season when in 1997 Arizona State was Number 14 and Mike Bobo Final Top 10 AP Poll, in 2004 when Arizona State was Number 19 and UGA Number 7, and in 2007 when Arizona State was Number 16 and UGA Number 2.

Yeah, Arizona State is a better program than UGA under Coach Richt.

It’s interesting that the AJC writers all hail the SEC, but when they have an article where they could give props to the ACC they don’t. Fact#1- The ACC is a close 2nd to the SEC in number of players in the NFL Fact#2- 2 ACC teams are ahead of UGA as regards players in the NFL (Miami and FSU). Miami has the most in the NFL with 53. Yeah, they have enough players inthe league to have their own football team. Yeah both programs are down, but they will be back and are continually pumping players into the NFL. Remember, the last year that Miami DID NOT send a player into the 1st round, was in 1994. Over the past 25 years, Miami has placed 23 more players in the NFL than the team that is 2nd on the list. Just some ACC facts for the biased SEC lap dog paper.

Go Dawgs!

Hey, you forgot the water boy, the guy who trims the hedges at Sanford stadium and the ticket taker at the turn stile. I know that UGA has never, ever, in their long history been #1 going into the season (there are 6 teams who have had that honor at least 4 times), but please give it a rest. Not even the USC team of ‘05 or the University of Miami team of ‘01 (7 1st rounders and 13 players overall) had that many guys drafted. UGA is a very good team and will do well this year. I understand your guys enthusiasim, but slow down you may start hyperventilating.

The SEC has five (5) schools with 30 or more players in the NFL, while No other conference has even 2. ACC. ACC sucks and you know it.

ACC needs to be Given Credit ?

ACC is 2-17 versus non-conference Top 10 Opponents the last 10 consecutive years now.

ACC 2-6 in bowl games season just ended, while The SEC set the NCAA All-Time Record 7 Bowl Wins.

ACC 1-9 in BCS Bowl Games while The SEC is 11-4.

SEC had 5 teams in the Final AP Poll Top 15, while the ACC had 2 in the Top 20.

The SEC has seven (7) coaches who make over two and a half million dollars each, play far tougher strength of schedules than the Stinking ACC, distributed $122 million dollars in Revenue Sharing this past month, and now have signed a contract with CBS alone guaranteeing The SEC for the next 15 years adjusted for inflation one point five trillion dollars.

BuLLdawg does rant a lot I’ve noticed, once his meds wear off and he finds his soapbox he really gets on a roll. He does his homework though, and comes up with some good stuff sometimes.

.

.

I’m not the 1 who named himself Mike Bobo 17 interceptions, just the 1 who pointed out that Mike Bobo owns the UGA Bulldog record for 65 percent pass completions in a season, ending with UGA Top 10 in the Final AP Poll 1997 and that we have been ranked in the Final AP Poll every single year starting with that season.

Stafford beat 3 Final AP Poll Top 25 teams, while Arizona State beat zero and Tim Tebow 1.

why do we continue to discuss the acc(a….thletically…c…hallenged….c…onfererence? we’re here to talk college football gentleman not high school.. georgia high schools have bigger stadiums than some of the acc schools ….. appalachiam state is trying to get in the acc but the bowdens and now paul johnson are blocking that move because appalachian state would lift the conference to a new level

SEC had 5 teams in the Final AP Poll Top 15, while the ACC had 2 in the Top 20. ACC 1-9 in BCS Bowl Games while The SEC is 11-4. ACC 2-6 in bowl games season just ended, while The SEC set the NCAA All-Time Record 7 Bowl Wins. ACC is 2-17 versus non-conference Top 10 Opponents the last 10 consecutive years now. The SEC has five (5) schools with 30 or more players in the NFL, while no other conference has even 2. Yeah, right the ACC is 2nd best. Right. I give you credit for what you in fact are.

UGAs second team QB this year (whoever he is) will be seeing a lot of action this year, especially at Auburn and Fl and possible even TN. Dawgdom had better fire up the blogs and start deciding who this unlucky dude will be.

Big Dawg:When the SEC adds GA State and GA Southern so that UGA can get rid of their annual beatdowns from FL and TN you’ll feel better. Forget nat champs. You need to be concerned about being state champs

Chipper, aka BUST, Towers

Yes, you are asking that I agree with you that Dannell Ellerbe is not a Star; that there are more BUSTS than Stars on the consensus Number 1 football team in the nation - who by the way ended last season ranked Number 2 in the Final AP Poll. You wrote today that there are more (37) former UGA Bulldogs in the NFL as of the opening day rosters a year ago (2007), but the list is 15 more than that today including HALF the BUSTS you said we recruited.

It is ok for you to state that UGA has more BUSTS than Stars, and not ok for me to reply that your comments are moronic and idiotic.

It amazes me that you can even notice what I research and write in reply when the AJ-C allows everyone to log in without a unique login. None of us can tell who is writing what, and never have been able to.

You have been criticized Chipper by every single poster to your blog. You should have tough enough skin to take it, when you dish it out that Dannell Ellerbe is NOT a Star, that there are MORE BUSTS than Stars on the nation’s Number 1 football team.

You don’t have to be consistent with your comments, stating one day last week that there are MORE BUSTS than Stars, then this week posting that there are 37 you say and 52 I say today in the NFL on NFL rosters, nearly all of whom you listed as only just OK or BUSTS at UGA. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/college?letter=g

You don’t have to just only report positive items about UGA. You can continue your negative slant on UGA all you want, for all I care. Ohio State, you state is consensus Number 1 team in the nation citing only 6 of 30 preseason polls when 23 have UGA Number 1; fine; say whatever you want; you are the beat writer at AJ-C for UGA as I see it; if that is your bend in life; fine; but, don’t sit there and say I don’t have to agree with you while you call all our players BUSTS, but can’t reply how idiotic it is then and moronic to post today that there are more Bulldogs in the NFL than every other SEC program - made up of BUSTS from UGA.

If you want to apologize in public for stating that UGA has MORE BUSTS than Stars when it is 100 percent agreed across the great nation that UGA in fact has the most talent on our roster of every other football team today, then and only then would I willing to reply to that with I take it back that your comments are moronic, idiotic, and baseless.

You make zero efforts, and leave it up to ourselves, when others make statements on your blog such as calling all the UGA players BUSTS, or calling me a moron or idiot. None.

Thank you for this opportunity to discuss what should be good times for you right now as you and I share being from this UGA as our alma mater. My own personal uncensored opinion to a blog allowed without unique logins, is that you do not add to your credibility sir by stating your own harsh biased opinion is that the nation’s number 1 team in 23 of 30 polls has more BUSTS than Stars, that Dannell Ellerbe on the cover of SI is not a Star as the leading tackler on the Number 2 team in the nation in the Final AP Poll. And, if I were to write such a statement, I would take it as you dish it out with calling the roster of the nation’s number 1 team in 23 of 30 preseason polls, ” BUSTS . “

Yes as another poster has put it, the dawgs are pretenders and even Charlotte Dawgs knows something is still not quite right with the program. The dawgs are just simply Fools Gold when it comes to elite college football programs. Richt always seems to play close to the vest in play calling in which the offense does look like its feet is in tar at times. Well dawg fans, enjoy for 3 more weeks cause the ole ball coach will end your championship’s false hopes ha ha ha ha. P.S. …..to the ones who always are clamouring for facts, heck you don’t need them just watch the dawgs on tv and it becomes so apparent.

I’m glad you mention Coach Jim Donnan, he really did get it started at Georgia. I’ld like to know how many Georgia recruits he sent to the NFL. Then of course Coach Richt has added to that trend. I look forward to hearing Coach Jim Donnan talk show, he always has some great insights into the game.

A shout-out to Florida — I hope y’all have something special for Hawaii’s Keenan Jones, the punk who put the helmet-to-helmet hit on Mikey Henderson in the Sugar Bowl, giving Mikey a concussion and knocking him out of his last game for UGA. I’m not saying play dirty, I’m just suggesting you hit Keenan as hard as you can as often as you can.
