UGA blog finds new home

Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.

Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.

Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.

See at the new place!

Football tidbits heading into weekend

Couple more football notes heading into the weekend… .

Talked to Brannan Southerland yesterday. He said he will get the the cast taken off his left leg on Monday. Recovery going real well… .

Players you can plan on reading something about in the coming week: Jeff Owens, Quentin Banks, Tripp Chandler… .

I know some poo-pooed the tribute garden Georgia decided on to honor Vince Dooley for being too little and not at the stadium. But construction is well underway and, from the sight of the giant cranes on the site, it is going to be anything but a modest display… .

I tried to give you guys a story on the new EA Sports NCAA 2009 video game, which features Georgia as the No. 1-ranked team. But the Bulldogs’ compliance office decided it might be against NCAA rules regarding endorsement for any of their players to answer questions about. Anyway, the student newspaper The Red and Black managed to ask a couple of players about it before NCAA censorship could get in the way and, of course, a lot of the players play it and like. The game is slightly flawed, however, as notably pointed out by The R&B’s Jason Butt, who played it. It doesn’t have Rennie Curran as a starting linebacker (Akeem Dent instead) and it gives quarterback Logan Gray a 70 score for mobility, which is BELOW Matthew Stafford… .

Here are some of the former Dogs set to be at UGA’s Countdown to Kickoff Saturday: Thomas Brown (Atlanta Falcons), Kregg Lumpkin (Green Bay Packers), Brandon Miller (Atlanta Falcons), Jon Stinchcomb (New Orleans Saints), Scott Woerner (1980 Nat’l Championship Team, “Woerner the Returner”), Robert Edwards (New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins), Randall Godfrey (Washington Redskins), David Jacobs, Matt Stinchcomb (Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oakland Raiders), David Greene (Kansas City Chiefs), Steven Herndon (Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons), Tony Taylor (Atlanta Falcons), Dennis Roland (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Tony Gilbert (Jax Jaguars), Orantes Grant, JT Wall (Pittsburgh Steelers), Martrez Milner (Atlanta Falcons), DeMario Minter (Arizona Cardinals), Kedrick Golston (Washington Redskins), George Foster (Detroit Lions), Charles Grant (New Orleans Saints), Brandon Coutu (Seattle Seahawks), Frank Ros (capt. nat’l champ team), Bill Stanfill (miami dolphins undefeated team Outland Trophy winner).

Very interested in the chat with Banks. He has been touted in the past as a huge hitter with great speed. I’d like to seem him make more noise this season. I hope you can really stay on top of the Southerland recovery. When, and at what % he is back could be a huge factor this season.

Sounds like a fantastic lineup for C2K. Seeing some of the NFL rookie names there, maybe you could put together a piece after they all start camp on their progression.

Not only is Curran not listed as a starter, he isn’t on the game. If he is on the game they got his year wrong and his hieght. There are no true sophmores at OLB and no OLB’s under 6 feet tall. Hopefully the online roster updates available will be able to fix that problem.

Yeah, I was hoping toplay around and stick Logan in for option plays on NCAA 2009, and then I saw him listed as a 70. Stafford at a 76? I mean, he’s done well for us running, but come on. Logan should be about an 80 and Stafford should be at 68 or so.

As much as Coach loves gardening, I think it is a worthy tribute if done right. It sounds like with the big cranes that it is being done right.

So if Rennie is virtually not there, is he ineligible to play this year?

I don’t know why Rennie isn’t there…I created him myself. I think the reason is that EA only creates new freshmen every year (and just bumps up last year’s freshmen to sophmores) so since Rennie wasn’t in the game this year they weren’t going to go through the trouble of creating a sophmore.

Also NaDerris Ward is on the roster and not Bruce Figgins. I swapped them out.

Can you put King and Moreno both in at the same time? Can you direct snap to Moreno/King? Can you run a reverse with King and Moreno? Can King and/or Moreno run a halfback option and throw to Massequoi? What about a dump pass to King/Moreno? Can the entire team run on the field after a score? If you play Auburn can they use illegal blocks?

If Stinchcomb, Stinchcomb, and Greene want to raise some serious money for kids they should set up several EA Sports NCAA 2009 video games and charge people to play against Coaches Bobo and Martinez - for all those people who think they can out-coach these Coaches this would be their chance to put up or shut up.

Surely someone has run several matchups between UGA and Ohio State/Southern Cal on EA Sports NCAA 2009. What are the results?

Another flaw in EA Sports 2009 is that my game had Caleb King being white.

Y-R……Judging from your comment, it appears that a circle-jerk would be one of your greatest fantasies. I’m sure you don’t need UGA players to do that, though. Just go out the door of your dorm over at Tech and ask their guys to participate.

Unbeleivable… more bathroom humor from folks calling themselves UGA fans. This does not help our image boys. Can’t be proud to be a Dawg fan at this moment. It is embarrasing to the real fan of the program and see this crap in print.

Wow ! What suspense ! What do we do now. Read 10 articles about the Dooley roast (how many have there been?) ? Siberia has more news than this. UGA desparately needs a sports public realtions mgr. Feed the press something that is semi-relevant. Tell us about the concertina wired parking lot for players cars or the new assisted living center for broke-down unwanted former UGA players. WHERE’s the NEWS ?

Chip, thank you for the UGA football tidbits. You always do a good job on reporting info. Thanks for making the off season an enjoyable one. I hope you never leave the AJC. Not sure what we would read if you did.

Unbelievable! I played the game and had Tech beating Georgia 42-24 (with Ga. scoring a late TD in garbage time), just like I predicted for this year’s game. Spooky. THWG!

Paddy (the real one), unfortunately it always devolves to this childish practice of forgetting about the sport and hurling insults instead. Geez, I have never posted on the Tech blog, and I certainly wouldn’t stoop to the near obscenities that the GT fans (and others) put on this one. Surely these guys aren’t students or alumni; I really expect better from them (all schools inferred).

Having said that, I must admit that some of the fans of UGA are as guilty as others. But they are much more clever. Funnier, too.

Caleb King being white on EA 2009 is hilarious. Don’t they have any editors before this thing goes to market. And the abscence of Rennie Curran has got to be an even bigger mistake, the kid is a beast when the ball is snapped.

Chip, keep feeding us the dribs and dabbles, the only thing that makes the wait bearable.

By KDaDon81

Caleb King was white on the 08 edition also, which goes to show that the folks on EA are slipping. But then again, with 119+ teams its time consuming to change every player, and besides, seeing a white boy outrun everybody is always fun.
