UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

Many stars coming from outside Georgia galaxy
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I’m probably like a lot of you guys in that I’m on the computer every day surfing the web for college football news and information, especially in regard to Georgia. My wife says I’m addicted to the Internet but I say I’m just doing my job. We’re probably both right.
Anyway, it was while doing this yesterday that I happened upon an interesting tidbit being discussed on the Georgia website maintained by Scout, georgia.scout.com. During a roundtable discussion, their publisher, Dean Legge, mentioned that a lot of the Bulldogs’ star players come from out of state. That got me curious, so I pulled out the roster to have a look for myself.
Sure enough, it’s true. For as much as coach Mark Richt and his staff are lauded for recruiting well the home state of Georgia, they’ve done awfully good job outside the borders. Georgia’s top three offensive players — QB Matthew Stafford (Dallas, Texas), TB Knowshon Moreno (Belford, N.J.) and flanker Mohamed Massaquoi (Charlotte, N.C.) — all hail from other states. So does super sophomore tackle Trinton Sturdivant (Wadesboro, N.C.).
The same can be said on the defensive side of the ball. There you’ll find defensive tackles Geno Atkins (Pembroke Pines, Fla.), Jeff Owens (Sunrise, Fla.) and Kade Weston (Red Bank, N.J.), linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (Hamlet, N.C.), safety CJ Byrd (North Augusta, S.C.) and cornerbacks Bryan Evans (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Prince Miller (Duncan, S.C.).
And many of the Dogs’ future stars may be coming from out of state. In all likelihood incoming freshman Blair Walsh of Fort Lauderdale will become Georgia’s place-kicker this season. The Bulldogs snatched quarterback Logan Gray and tight end Aron White out from under the noses of Missouri and Ben Jones of Centreville, Ala., looks like potential star on the offensive line. More recently, they got a highly-publicized commitment from Aaron Murray, generally considered the top quarterback in Florida, who had 53 scholarship offers including several in his home state.
This, my friends, is the difference in Georgia in years past and Georgia now. As always the Bulldogs take care of their business in the fertile recruiting ground that is the Peach State. But increasingly under Richt they have been able to cherry pick some of the nation’s best from surrounding states and beyond. The Bulldogs have always done that to some extent (see Richard Seymour, Rodney Hampton, Bill Goldberg, etc.) but not to the degree we’re seeing now.
What’s your thoughts on it? Nothing but a good thing if you’re a Georgia fan, I guess. Any danger of favoring an out-of-staters over locals? And, of course, there are numerous Georgians doing standout work for the Dogs.

Speaking of Homeboys, Chip, those guys at Scout need to pull their heads out.
They rank Washan Ealey #79:
6-0
195
3000 yards
58 freakin’ TD’s as a Junior.
Scout’s #2 player nationally? A Miami running back:
6-0
200
1800 yards
26 TD’s.
Good grief.

Success will get the attention of the out of state stars. Georgia’s success is contagious among the elite players that want to win and it is spreading.

It is very hard to predict how a high school junior is going to turn out, and that is when Georgia and other schools are offering and getting committments. Look at the native Georgians in this year’s NFL draft. None of the top ones were even highly recruited by Georgia.
It doesn’t matter where we get them. We have become an elite program and have our choice of players and our coaches are doing a great job of getting them ready to play and winning.
The biggest difference in the past few years is we aren’t taking the kind of academic risks Richt took the first few years, so our attrition is down.

Continuity in the coaching staff with a lot of National coverage and success. Lot’s of National TV coverage and if you’ve ever been to Athens on a beautiful fall Day for a football game, it’s pretty awesome. Mark Richt is a neat guy to play for. Urban is MF this and MF that. A jerk basically. The players tell these recruits, you can’t beat this place. Also, When Mark Richt comes calling, he starting to get that “ROCK STAR” status when he comes calling !

I follow tennis very closely, look at the number of international players, the makeup of college athletics is changing.
We have always had out of state players, the quality is increasing, but more importantly the quality of coaching by MR, and staff is through the roof.

In regards to how good the players are, I do not care where they come from, as long as they are winners and represent the program well. In regards to university reputation and recognition, it only helps that CMR, Rodney Garner, et al. have diversified and expanded our recruiting base outside the state. Tennessee has done a great job with this method over the last twenty years or so, and SOS did it at FLA too. And if we want to beat USC, tOSU, etc., we gotta go outside the state to recruit. We need to be recruiting most of the same players that UF, UT, USC, tOSU, Mich, etc. to be able to run with the big boys. Now I am not knocking the state here whatsoever. We gotta still get the big dogs here as we do all over the country-as we all know some of the best talent is in this state. Good problem for us to have I suppose. For those that say we are losing the focus on Georgia as our base for recruiting, it is just not so. If we focused exclusively on GA, we would be losing out on may top quality players. Just ask Ray Goff and competing with GA Southern for recruits and see where that got us. (Sorry not knocking Coach Goff he’s a good man but it is true)

I think Richt’s staff is looking for the best players RIGHT NOW regardless of their hometowns. This also includes kids that “fit” the needs and wants of the program right now. They could care less about the crap that is scout.com rankings, etc. etc. Why try to speculate about their NFL futures? There is too much exposure and information out there now to wait only on kids that show their stuff during their senior seasons only in the state of Georgia.

rainbowjacket, LOL, you are too funny. I think we can all agree that Paul Johnson will never be confused for Bobby Dodd or even Bobby Ross for that matter. However, I think after a couple of years he may be thought of as the new Bill Lewis.
There are reasons that players are jumping from Tech like rats from a sinking ship. Even the Tech fans are disheartened. Just note from the AJC; Johnson is on his spring caravan to build up support and at the Cobb Galleria he spoke to a throng of 200 people. 200. Two-Zero-Zero. Had that been Richt, it would have been 10,000 at least. Shoot, I think Dan Reaves drew more than that and the Ga St team doesn’t even exist yet!!

Winning at Navy is one thing. But, beating Georgia is a different thing. Yes tech fans Paul Johnson is a good coach, but it is going to take time to recruit and for the players to know his system. Georgia is on a roll right know and they need to beat the vols and the gators, if they are going to win a national championship. They have the talent to win it, the problem for the dawgs is they play to many good teams this year a way from home.

The state of Georgia is and has been prime real estate for locating top college prospects. Our high school programs are some of the best in the country. That said, UGA needs to get what it needs from from the in-state talent pool, but if we are to gain national recognition, we must attract talent from all over the country. More than any prior staff, Richt has done this well.

I think that we would be content to only recruit GA…However so many of the top players in the state will never be accepted into UGA because they are nonqualifiers or borderline…This forces us to go outside the borders to get kids that can we can get into school…Other schools gamble on the Georgia kids qualifying (and many times they do)…But why wait to see if they can qualify when you have top prospects willing to committ early…Remember UGA cannot offer until a prospect submits info to admissions to prove that they are at least on trach to qualify…Go Dawgs…

Didn’t Coach Richt or Coach Garner say last year that their strategy was to get the best in GA and to go cherry picking outside the state only when there was an outstanding opportunity. I honestly think Tech has a golden opportunity here - UGA only has, what, 15 scholarships. It will use up some on out-of-state players. Tech has had some players quit the team, freeing up scholarships. Tech has no excuses, even if it has a poor season this year, for not snapping up plenty of almost-as-good players in the state of Georgia. Also, don’t forget NaDerris Ward from California - sometimes these kids just end up too far from home and want to go back.

All “elite” programs need the reach to recruit top talent from outside their own state and around the country. No state region can claim to have the best talent across the board, and certain regions are know for producing great talent at certain positions.
Over time, as a program maintains itself at the elite level, elite recruits will be attracted to the program because they want to play for an elite coach and with elite teammates. No surprise there. Most players want to play for championships, wherever the program is located. Notre Dame being a prime example of recruiting nationally over the last 70-odd years.
I also note that something over 30% of the last UGA and Florida recruiting classes were from outside the schools’ respective home states. And those percentages are trending upward. As examples of current star players from elsewhere I give you Knowshon Moreno (New Jersey), Percy Harvin (Virginia), and Matt Stafford (Texas); all were big-time national recruits. Other SEC teams get their share, too.
Given the availability of great high school football talent in Georgia and Florida, these elite out-of-state recruits have the potential to elevate a consistently very good program to championship status.

Yes, our recruiting is outstanding and is continuing to grow under Coach Richt. UGA has reached a new plateau that can be measured by wins and Coach Richt and his staff have averaged over 10 wins a season…NOT BAD!!! Of course everyone wants to wins championships and they will come.
Of course I cannot make a comment without mentioning my home state COOTS. What is going on at the State Farmers Market? Only two committments and the only news is that Spurrier has won a golf tournament. Has the fire burned out? Is he merely padding his 401K and awaiting the completion of his retirement home in Florda that he and Jerri are building? Clemson is having their second outstanding recruiting class and yet the COOTS seemingly have forgotten that they need to recruit. They are the most amusing school in the SEC.

What’s particularly impressive is the fact that we get out-of-state recruits and still signed 11 out of the top 20 recruits in Georgia last year. (No other school signed more than 1 Georgian. Only 3 of the 9 signed with SEC rivals— Auburn signed none and Tennessee signed none)

We must be careful with getting too caught up in recruiting the national scene. That mistake was made following the early eighties when we thought we had arrived and needed to recruit heavily outside the state. We were going after guys from all over the place, while Florida and Florida State were pillaging the state. I’m not saying that we are in danger of that happening now, but learning from the past should be a no-brainer. Georgia is still one of the top 4 states for football talent every year. Keep it locked down.

When I was in college at UGA years ago during the dreadful Goff years, we had very few players from out of state. We discussed the fact that not only did we need to be able to get all the guys within GA we wanted, but to also reach out and compete for the best talent nationwide that we wanted or needed. The fact that has happended more than 15 years later has been beneficial to the program. A LOT of teams with national championships had the ability to draw from across the country. Nebraska sure the heck did not win with Nebraksa-only recruits and walk-ons. Not being able to effectively recruit nationwide hurts schools in small states, like S. Carolina, and it will eventually frustrate Spurrier into retirment without major success.
The pervasive problem in GA and other states is landing guys with the talent and the grades/ability to do the school work. Having a national scope of recruiting significantly increases the odds of getting the guys with talent and academic acumen, and will help avoid a lot of headaches that we’ve had. The recent commitments by Murray and Long are good examples, both have major talent and are solid academically.
The downside is that we run the risk of becoming a team of ringers and a team of people who do not know the meaning of major rivalries, like GA-Auburn and GA-Fla. Of course, with the mental block we seem to have developed with Fla., having a bunch of guys from outside GA and FL that don’t know anything about it might be a good thing. Stafford and Moreno both admitted in press last season that they did not know that much about the whole UGA-FL history of hatred.

Do you think Buford’s players are overrated, as well, since they only play in AA?
I seem to remember another Class A running back who did pretty well at U.Ga. a few years back. Won a Heisman; got himself a national championship ring, too.
Have you seen Ealey play? I have. He was the best back in the state in any classification, bar none. The AJC thought so, too. Ealey’d be a star at any level. The bar will be set higher this season, with a number of former AA programs coming into Class A (Savannah Christian, Westminster), but I think he’ll rise to the occasion. He is too small for college football, hell, he was too small for high school football, all He did was rush for over 2000 yds last year. This kid signed as a pole vaulter, but also said He was intrested in being a sprinter, which He did here until last year. That’s right, He has used to big stick for exactly one track season and earned a Div 1 scholarship. Anyway, He said He owed it to UGA to concentrate on what His scholarsip is in, but in August He knows that He will want to put the pads on again. Recruiting is a combination of timing, location and need. If you have three blue-chip players on your roster at the same position, you can have a hard time getting more. It is much easier to recruit to the major conferences and this leads to the real reason 4 and 5 star recruits will consider your school. “How many times will my son be on TV?” is heard a lot by coaches these days.

Good post by Atlanta Gator. Can’t believe I gave praise to a Gator. What is this world coming too?
As Gator said Ga and Fl have plenty of in state talent, the difference in being top ten and top 3 in the country for UGA, UF, and a number of other schools is getting several top players from out of state. Coaching and desire will have a lot to do with how great a team will be. As for Richt, he is doing a great job recruiting. So are several other coaches…don’t let up Dawgs, keep the hammer down.
Next years class will be small and thus need to be of truly top players from top to bottom, regardless of where they come from. You can bet there will be a lot of GA talent going out of state next year. Tech will also have an opportunity to recruit a lot of in state talent. Let’s just hope it doesn’t all go to the same school. Go Dawgs!!

I completely agree with Fort Worth Dawg: If UGA only signs 10-12 players from Georgia because of the number of scholarships available for UGA this year it opens the door for tech which they badly need to convert to a successful class in 09.
Certainly many of the other programs around the country will know that there are usually several dozen div 1 prospects in the state and that UGA has a down scholly year. They will be recruiting the state of Georgia harder than usual. tech must fend them off and take advantage of this opportunity.

I agree with you that some of the top stars are from out of state as you point out. I agree the Dawgs are probably doing better with national recruits due to the more “national” success of the program under Richt.
With UGA finishing in what?… top 10 finishes in 5 out of the last 6, this is one of the side benefits to that level of success.
However, I don’t think anyone can accuse UGA of not recruiting the state of Georgia hard. 80% of the 09 class if from in state so far this year. The top player at their position in this clas is a defensive lineman from Georgia.
The Last two years more than 2/3 of the players were from Georgia. The only thing I see changing is that Georgia is probably signing better out of state players than they did under Donnan and Goff, not really a whole lot more of them.

War Eagle, I think one of the problems facing us is the way our season schedule is always laid out. Usually if we lose a game it’s always near the end of the season, either to you guys or Fla. It’s difficult to climb back into the NC picture when losing late rather than losing early in the season. And that’s even if we win the SEC Championship.

WAREAGLE …… really think that ? If UGA fails to win BCS title next two years, will CMR have the “can`t win big one”, label. or you contend with status quote?
That would mean CMR would be like tubber bubber…

Majority of the OUTSIDERS* come to Athens, b/c of Mark Richt and his coaching staffs. The stability, honesty and the integrity of the program plays a big part of luring these prospects from all over. Also, kids now know, if you’re a 2nd or 3rd team, you’re still more than likely to get heaps of snaps.
It dudn’t matter where we get’em from, just win baby!

At least 12 major colleges recruit heavily in Georgia. That makes for a very intense fight for every star athlete. That having been said there is enough to go around. I am a die hard DAWG fan, and have been for many years. Out of state recruiting is fine, but we can get 85% of what we need in Georgia.

auburnsux, SEC is tough schedule within, so every game is important. UGA is well coached and their loses does not necessary mean technical breakdowns to the insiders, THE BUCK STOPS AT THE TOP in news media and most fans,…Good luck, dawgs should be tough…They have advantage(noise) at Ariz. I knew someone would bring that up, and it’s a valid point. But those numbers don’t lie, no matter the competition. Were the Miami kid’s opponents TWICE as good?
As someone else pointed out, Herschel played in A ball, and he was a man among boys in the SEC as a freshman.
War Eagle
Little hard to decipher your post, but Richt only has a few scholarships next year. I doubt he’d waste one on a back whose prospects are as dismal as your inside source claims. Or maybe you and your guy know more about Ealey’s situation than the UGA coaching staff.

Hey COOP- I’ve got an idea…Why don’t you line up as a linebacker (you will probably want to wear a sign that says you are a linebacker, seeing as how you probably look like either a) a flag boy or b) someone that got stung by the buffet bee) and tell Herschel that running backs from Single A schools in southeast Georgia don’t deserve to be highly rated. If you can play, then darn it you can play. GATA Ealey!!!

All of you Georgia Fans are delusional….Georgia Tech is a much better school than Georgia. We at Georgia Tech are more refined and like the finer things in life. A typical Georgia fan wears a t-shirt, shorts, and can always be found with a Budweiser nearby. We are more international at Tech…We have so many races attending our schools.. (And don’t start on us about having a terrorist attending classes at tech…that’s old news)We also have higher tolerances for alternate lifestyles…I see many of you homophobes have been having fun at our expense….well that won’t last for long. In Atlanta we who choose to stand out in our sexuality are praised….So go ahead and get your drunk on rednecks…Georgia Tech’s new coach is very nice and likable. Luckily I have been able to work with him at a few of Tech’s Galas this year. He is very accepting of alternate lifestyles. Knowing this I really want to support Coach Johnson and his valiant team.

All comedy aside, the bad news is the dawgs will pull the wings off your new coach like the little bug he is and he’ll be leaving Atlanta on I 85 or however all the former coaches slink out of town. Just walk around down town, surely someone will sell you some Lor tabs to ease your pain. Just be thankful you colored bug it’s not you on ther field getting your fannie kicked. Have a nice day.

NRBQ, thanks for comment, but CMR knows about his recruits, but he might be rolling the dice on Easley. I hope UGA does well this year except against Auburn, Although dawgs play well at Auburn, its not in the books UGA wins three years in a row.. Our numbers in Georgia signees has been reduced last three years by UGA solid recruiting , we lost a little sponk, but we got those Florida Jamacian sprinters, plus Spread offense. Auburn defense speaks for itself for last decade.

Thoughts on recruiting:
If Easley is eligible right away, that is great, but it won’t hurt the Dawgs too badly if he has to go the Juco route. UGA’s recruiting class in 09 is shaping up to be stellar.
War Eagle: Many so called “experts” said the same thing about having good recruiting classes and not winning a national title about: Bowden, Mack Brown, Paterno, Osbourne. ETc… I think it is more likely that Richt will go down in history as the greatest coach in UGA history than a coach who couldn’t win the big one.
Back to recruiting… I am shocked by the shear volume of scholarship offers from TN to high school students for 09. They must have 50 offers out there already.
UGA is almost done with recruiting for the 09 class. That is truly shocking. At this pace… we may literally be closed for business before HS football starts for their 08 season!
I think high school players and coaches from Georgia, around the South, and perhaps around the nation understand what is building in Athens and they want to be a part of it.
Auburn, FL, South Carolina, and TN don’t have the jump that we do on recruiting for 09.
UGA has EIGHT top 10 players committed at their positions. Auburn has 1, Alabama has 1, Florida has 1, TN has 1 and LSU has 5.
This will even out some as the recruiting season continues, partially because UGA only has a few more scholarships to award and these other teams have many still available. Still, it is the start to another impressive class.

I-Dog, the coaches you mention hava won NC, some several. CMR has not really been in the position…Last year UGA did not win SEC. It takes “being in the right place, at right time” to win NC. Auburn has commitments from One top QB in Alabama, and DT from Mobile plus, two of the best Private School athletes. Auburn will have a limit because of low graduation 2009,2010.

I saw this asked on another blog, so I thought i would put it to You football fans. Trash talkers can feel free to ignore it. Does the signing of two mobile qbs signal a change of offensive stratergy at UGA? From watching Murray on U-Tube it is obvious that he likes to roll out on passing downs. He also seems to be able to pass on the run and still be very accurate. Unlike Gray, Murray will stop and throw the pass even when the run seems open. Murray is somewhat “vertically challenged”, listed at 6’1’, and I think rolling out allows Him to see downfield, ala Mike Vick. It also draws the defense to Himself, buying time and allowing His recievers to get open. Unlike Vick, Murray will pull up just behind the line and throw the pass. The question is, will this work in the SEC, with all those lanky, fast des? Remember how the Bucs and the Eagles would send Their des upfield on those wide rushes so that Vick couldn’t roll out and How They shut Him down? Anyway, back to My main point, will things change at UGA when Stafford’s gone?

The DIFFERENCE between Georgia and everyone else, is that Georgia BEATS Top 25 teams.
Georgia, assured of SEC Baseball Championship regular season, won another series again yesterday and now faces Georgia Tech in baseball at Foley Field in Athens where UGA has lost only 7 games all season long. Game time is 7 p.m. Comcast channel number 45 Wednesday evening this week.
Gordon Beckham, leading national candidate for baseball player of the year award, hit another home run yesterday, his 22nd to lead the nation. This brings his Total Bases to now 159, also leading the SEC. Beckham has a batting average of .412. He has an SEC-leading 75 hits this season so far. Beckham has scored 67 runs in 47 baseball games, 24 of which are against the Top 25 Teams in Baseball. He also leads The SEC in Slugging Percentage and On-Base Percentage. And, Gordon Beckham also leads The Bulldogs with 16 stolen bases to make him 16 steals in 17 attempts on the season.. 11 previous seasons, The SEC has had The NCAA National Player of The Year. This will be the 12th.
Georgia Tech certainly is NOT one of the Top 25 teams in baseball. Georgia is.
Rich Poythress, who is most likely the best fielder in The SEC, is batting .341 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI, Ryan Peisel is hitting .338, and Bryce Massanari is hitting .302 on the SEC Batting Average Leader Board.
Michael Demperio, Bulldogs’ defensive stalwart 2nd sacker, went down with a knee injury in yesterday’s game and will undergo an MRI today.

Joshua Fields, .037 ERA, gave up his 1st earned run of the season after 23 games he has pitched in and leads the SEC with 13 saves. Opponents are batting .076 against him, as he has walked only 14 and struck out 44. Only 4 pitchers in all The SEC have pitched in more games than Fields with his floppy hair. Joshua Fields also has hit 2 home runs this season at the plate.
Trevor Holder is now 7-2 with a 2.84 ERA. Dean Weaver is 3-1 with a 2.35 ERA for The Diamond Dawgs, and like Joshua Fields, has not given up a single home run all season long.. Steve Esmonde, who has walked only 1 batter all year long, is 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA. And, Stephen Dodson has a 3.88 ERA with a 5-2 record. Jason Leaver adds a 2-0 record, Alex McRee is 5-1, and Nick Montgomery has pitched in 19 games with a 1-1 record. Nathan Moreau is 2-2, Will Harvil 1-0 and Justin Earls is 2-1. The Bulldogs’ pitchers are the best fielding pitchers in The SEC.
To the AJ-C “sportswriters” please note that UGA is hitting 41 points higher than we allow, having played 24 games against the Top 25. Just because there are 7 SEC teams all hitting over .300 means little when Georgia has given up the fewest number of hits of every SEC team this season. Last time I looked, you see whom it is you are playing, if they are a top NCAA baseball team or not, and then you look up at the scoreboard and see who has more runs.
When you are batting 41 points higher than your opponents, and 24 of the games are against Top 25 teams, you are obviously doing a much better job against much better opponents than the other baseball teams in America.
Georgia is 11th in Baseball America with 4 SEC Teams ranked in the Top 25 and there are not more in the ACC who are ranked in Baseball America.
Georgia is 8th in Collegiate Baseball, the oldest poll, with 5 SEC Teams ranked in the Top 25, and there are fewer ACC teams ranked in the Top 25 of the Collegiate Baseball Poll.
By ............................................BuLLdawg
May 5, 2008 5:52 AM | Link to this
Georgia is 13 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll with 5 SEC teams ranked in the Top 25 and again there are fewer ACC teams ranked in the Coaches’ Poll Top 25 as well.
Georgia is 17th in the NCBWA Baseball Poll.
The Strength of Schedule for UGA is Number 45, while Georgia Tech’s SoS is Number 74 (Coastal Carolina’s SoS is Number 123.) FSU SoS 53, North Carolina SoS 67, and Miami SoS 69. These are the only 3 ranked ACC baseball teams.
And, what All America Gordon Beckham and Joshua Fields have done against these Top 25 teams, is simply amazing.
Comparing this with Football :
Tim Tebow was 1-4 vs. the Top 25 this last season, and Matthew Stafford was 3-1 vs. the Top 25 this past season. If Stafford can continue to cut down on his turnovers and throw more touchdowns, Stafford can improve upon Georgia’s Number 2 ranked in the Final AP Poll.
I, personally, will take these kinds of performances against the Top 25 by Georgia Bulldogs any day over what Florida instead is doing against The Top 25.
In either sport. And, that includes Georgia Tech too.
Georgia is up to 17 in the NACDA Directors’ Cup Standings before Baseball.
Southern California is Number 22 in the Directors’ Cup Standings through May 1 and Georgia Tech is Number 89. Georgia is going to move up from Number 17 in the Final Standings released after the College World Series is over.
Georgia BEATS Top 25 teams in Baseball and Football.

Meanwhile, Hutts’ father has tried to be a positive influence on kids telling everyone all along that his kid died of heroine overdose so that others will NOT make this mistake.

I think PJ will improve the Tech team, slightly. There is a chance that in a couple of years that Chan will be missed as well.
Unfortunately for Tech, UGA continues to improve and will improve more in the future than slightly. UGA is not quite part of the nations elite, but they are so close and this year may change that.
The only way Tech upsets UGA in the near future is a meltdown or assist from the referees like in the late 1990’s. Oh yeah, instant replay would have prevented the Jasper Sanks fumble and would have reversed the Joooeey Hamilton fumble.

or anybody with a pulse (this blog page appears dead) who will be the NEXT to pledge their allegiance to CMR and the UNSTOPPABLE DAWGS?
As far as SEC talk goes, if RFr QB Jarrett Lee is named starter, will he make LSU fans forget about Perrilloux?!
This kid was ESPN’s #10 QB in 06 and #60 Prospect in nation as a senior at Brenham HS in Texas.
But….he’ll need to gain some experience. I believe their traditionally strong Tiger D will be an asset that provides an opportunity for him get some quality OJT, similar to #7! (I know…#7 played as a TRUE Fr at UGA).
