UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

Spectacular win earns Felton brief reprieve
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
It was why we love sports. It was why guys like me get into this business. It’s why coaches crave the competition and challenge and why players ALWAYS believe they’re going to win.
Raise your hand if you expected Georgia to win that game last night against an Ole Miss team desperate to get into the NCAA tournament. Let’s hear from those of you that felt the beleaguered Bulldogs, whose coach currently sits in the hottest seat int he league, would advance to the SEC tournament quarterfinals. Who among you thought Dave Bliss would ever end up taking the final shot in a must-win game — and make it?
Well he did and they did and, as a result, the Dogs get another game tonight. After its spectacular 97-95 win in overtime, Georgia draws mighty Kentucky, a team that beat it narrowly twice this season but did so with freshman Patrick Patterson playing a major role. Patterson is out for the season with a stress fracture and the Dogs are raring to go.
Lost in all the excitement and drama — such Georgia fouling the 3-point shooter not once but twice — was the fact that it was a very well-played game, especially by the Bulldogs. They shot 54 percent overall and 41 from 3 and, most importantly, was 26-of-32 (81.3 percent) from the foul line where they came in averaging 67 percent.
On the other side of the court, the Rebels shot 47 percent, got 55 inside-outside points from Dwayne Curtis (26) and David Huertas (29) and had 17 offensive rebounds. It’s not like Ole Miss showed up and laid an egg. They simply got out-played.
“It was a tremendous game,” Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said. “I wish I could’ve enjoyed it. Unfortunatley I couldn’t. Both teams came and played extremely hard, and they made one more play.”
Said Felton: “I thought the game was played at a very, very high level. Both teams played very well.”
Of course, it was a nightmare scenario for us writers. It was already a ridiculous deadline crunch we were under BEFORE the game went into overtime at 12:15 a.m. The presses had been rolling since before midnight and I’m having to write what we call a “running” story. That’s made doubly difficult when the game is as close as it is. So I had one version going at the top of my screen that had Ole Miss winning and one at the bottom with Georgia winning. It’s the fear of sportswriters everywhere to delete the wrong one and send the wrong version. So If my story didn’t make much sense, I apologize. I was just doing the best I could.
Anyway, I guess the question I was asked most after the game was, “does this save Felton’s job?” or some version thereof. I can’t tell you what Damon Evans is thinking at the moment but, with all the consideration he has given the situation to this point, I doubt one win over Ole Miss is going to change his mind. Now two or three in this event and certainly a tournament title could change anything.
One reporter asked Felton that very question and he nearly bit the guy’s head off. “How could I possibly sit here and do Damon Evans’ thinking for him,” he groused. “I would tell you that’s a question best suited for Damon.”
But pulling off the unexpected is why coaches and players love to play these games and that’s why we love to watch them. It’s a 9:45 p.m. scheduled tip again tonight and I’ll be there to see what happens. And I’ll have a rooting interest: A good game decided in regulation!

Spectacular win? Is that what this season has come to?
The reason why Felton needs to be fired is his complete lack of offensive game plan. The team has no motion, can’t get the ball in bounds and has no answer for getting open shots with minimum time on the clock. Do we really think Felton is going to suddenly develop and offensive gameplan overnight? Or that he can recruit players capable of executing same (and prevent them from being dismissed from the team)?
Anthony Grant at VCU is a phone call away. Let’s not wait too long because there are plenty of teams looking to make a move.

Felton is an outstanding coach. UGA is fortunate to have him. Look at what Harrick and Harrick Jr did to our program. Look at what Jirsa did to our program. Look at what Smith did to our program ie used it as a stepping stone to Ky. Felton is building a strong program that will be a winner for years to come and he is doing it the right way. I admire him for kicking last year’s 2 highest scorers off the team for not performing academically. He knew he was giving up approx 5 wins in doing that, but he was setting the standard for the team. We do not need a basketball coach that places wins over class. we had that with Harrick and look where it got us. Felton will have a much better team next year and even better the year after that. I am just glad that he left Western Kentucky to come to a UGA program in the crapper and work to put it back together. Anyone who has a problem with him needs to find another school to pull for - even if you are an alum.

I give UGA a good chance of beating UK……. but UK seems to be playing more agressive and inspired (and better?) ball w/o Patterson. Defense will be the key. If UK plays the tough defense it’s been showing recently, it shuold win. Otherwise UGA has a good shot.

yeah because Anthony Grant’s squad unleashed a GREAT offensive gameplan in losing to William & Mary. Grant’s not coming for the same reason nobody else is coming; we don’t have patience for doing it the right way

Why did Ole Miss even have a 3 point shot—-why did we not foul prior to the shot with a 3 point lead?

me: did you even what the game? Yes, that was a spectacular game no matter who was playing or who was coaching… .
ChampDawg: I agree. . . .
Buckhead Bill: Good point and we asked Felton about that after the game. He said if he was coaching in the NBA he would have done that but that so much more is unpredictable with college kids and the odds are better that something good will happen for the defense, or something to that effect. Of course it was way too late to get something in the paper.

Anothony Grant would be great. I like Kennedy from Ol’Miss. I think Evans will go after a young coach that will get after it in recruiting. None of the aau coaches like Felton anyway. Grant was the man for Donavan for many year and an incredible recruiter. Hey me, I believe this was Grant’s second year at VCU. The guy can coach, look at what he did in the big dance last year.
Chip, correct me if I’m wrong. But Mercer was doing fine in school and on target to graduate early. The problem is how strict Felton is about meeting with tudors and meeting everyday.

Yeah, Felton is an idiot for establishing rules and actually having the audacity to punish someone when they break them? It would be so much better for everyone if we just let the most important players slide by without holding up their responsibilities and come down hard everyone else like every other coach does. Get a grip people, the rules are their to ensure that another Harrick/Tony Cole mess doesn’t destroy our program, Felton is doing the right thing for once in UGA basketball and everyone is calling for his head.
Good recruiting class last year and another good one for next year. And for the knuckleheads that say Felton can’t coach, how in the world did he make consecutive tourney’s and beat Kentucky at Western Kentucky if he can’t coach. If you losers would hold yourselves to the same standards/expectations you hold Felton to we would all be better off!

Chip, please tell me you smacked the Red & Black reporter on the back of the head when he asked that stupid question to Felton. …
To the matter at hand, Felton deserves to stay another year at least. He’s not a transitional guy, but a guy who can build a program given enough time. The Harrick trash has finally been taken out and next year Felton needs to his team to produce a competitive squad. … Beat UK and make Ashley Judd cry!

I truly was one of the few that voted in the poll the other day that we would have an upset or two. I felt really good about our chances throughout all but a few moments in that game. It was an awesome game to watch, and great to see the team have a fun, exciting moment to enjoy at the end for a change lately. I don’t see us winning this thing; unfortunately, our lack of numbers on the bench will show more & more as we go on. However, I don’t see a blowout like Florida in last year’s tournament, and based on the information I know, I would like to see Coach Felton back next year. There I things that we fans don’t know, but on the surface, having attended all but one home game this year, this season had too many uncontrollable variables to fire a coach. With another very good recruiting class coming in, barring massive injuries, we will all know how good Coach Felton is at the end of next season.
I hope we can get at least one more win tonight! Go Dawgs!

I like Dennis Felton. Say what you want about other schools. We are abasketball team playing and living in a football community. He will change the climate at UGA and we will be a winner. Bobby Knight at Indianna was not always liked or admired. Other coaches are not always liked. Coach Felton recruits young men and gets them to grow up. Our academic changes , whlie an improvement are not only from him.
I feel that we will continue to improve next and may make the tournament. If not having 20 wins will be an improvement for me.
Coaches are too quick to be fired these days. Lets give Coach Felton a couple of full recruiting classes and see if we don’t run with the big dogs!!!

ConyersDawg - You’re right, it is completely unfair for Felton to want his players to meet with Tudors. How can we possibly expect college kids these days to find members of a royal house whose last monarch died centuries ago?
Seriously though, Felton is the right guy for the job; he will take us where we need to go given the chance. See ya’ll at the Dome tonight.

As a UGA grad and fan, Felton should stay. As good as Mercer was he was a jerk and none of the players were surprised when he was kicked off the team. Some were surprised it took that long. Brown is the perfect example why a lot of coaches don’t like JUCO transfers. We rolled the dice and we lost. Fact is, as UGA alumn and fans, we don’t like to lose and we are p**. I am not ready to throw my coach under the bus due to a few bumps in road. We currently have a program of high character. We recruited well the past couple of years and we have a good class coming in this year. I don’t think it takes rocket science to see that we are going to win big next year and years to come. With Class!

Has anyone else had enough of Raycom Sports? Their picture is the worst I have ever seen. It looks like when you first open your eyes after a night of drinking while you are shaking off the cob webs. Also, why do they have to use graphics from the 1980’s? Compared to ESPN or CBS, it looks like they have retards doing the directing. How can we get the SEC to award the BBall contract to someone who knows how to run a television operation for a basketball tournament? They should have made a change 5 years ago…

UGA tried to give the game away. Has Felton figured out yet that he needs to instruct his players not to foul a player shooting a 3point shot when you’re up by 3 late in the game.
Should be fired simply for his or his player’s (whom he recruited) stupidity whereby they can’t figure this out. Twice at the end of regulation. What a pathetic team!

Almost forgot, Felton got a lot better this year with the “PR” stuff, involving students & fans, even cracking a decent joke here and there. Let’s all remember that Coach Richt, as much as we love him, has had to grow as a coach. (i.e. his early time mgt issues, etc.)
Also, when is Corey Butler going to be offered a scholarship? The kid busts it every day, and with the attrition this year, we certainly have one available. I believe he already has a Hope Scholarship, but offer him just as a credit to his hard work.

I think we’d all love to have a top 10 team right now, but I’d also rather have our coaches/players/admin carry the torch for Georgia basketball with integrity and class than the previous regime. I’m a bit frustrated, but I get a sense from watching Felton over the past few years that he is a man of conviction, passion in our school and team, and has the ability to be a pretty dad-gum good coach.
I don’t know the ins/outs of this years discipline problems, but I always give benefit of the doubt to a coach. Think about how close we would have been to being VERY good this year - Mercer/T Brown/Humphrey/Gaines/Woodyard/Bliss/Price?
I would love to see what he does next year with some of the freshman recruits we’ll be bringing in.
Here’s to another upset I’m feeling tonight.

We clearly won in spite of the coaching last night…
We were totally inept when Ole Miss went into a full-court press, and I will not even get into the absurdity of fouling a 3-PT shooter TWICE with less than 10 seconds to play.
It was a nice win, but even in winning, we got a vivid illustration of the fact that Dennis Felton is just not a good basketball coach.

UGA is lucky to have Dennis Felton. He is an excellent coach that was gracious enough to attempt the clean up of Coach Harrick’s mess. Given a little more time, and average talent on his bench, Coach Felton will win for Georgia. If you have attended any UGA basketball games, you would have noticed there are only 7 or 8 players dressed out. Those players play their hearts out. I admire Coach Felton for not tolerating any nonsense from student atheletes that simply do not know how to behave in a civilized society. Coach Felton wants to be at UGA, and we should make every effort to make him welcome.

Chip:
I did watch the game. I agree with me in that this was NOT a spectacular game. The ENDING play created a spectacular FINISH - there’s a big diference there. The Dawgs made it close because of p** poor play that made me want to tear my hair out - blowing a big lead in regulation, blowing a 3-point lead at the end of regulatuion (to a ridiculous 3-shot foul that players know there’s NEVER supposed to commit), and blowing a 3-point lead at the end of the OT (to an even more ridiculous SECOND 3-shot foul that players just got a chance to be remined of minutes earlier to NEVER commit).
So in summary, a spectacular final play, ending in a great final shot, but NOT a spectacular basketball game by any stretch of the imagination - except yours, of course.

After all of the fallout from the 3 previous coaches, it has been nice to have Felton as a steady guiding hand on the wheel.
Unfortunately, wins and losses eventually rule the decision. Just proves it’s hard to get a coach with both.

When we change from being a football school to being a basketball school, then fire the coach. Since we are a football school and basketball plays a distant second fiddle, keep the round ball coach, he has character and is doing the right thing with his players. He gets at least another year.

Joe I agree , what in the heck was Felton doing telling his players to foul the 3 point shooters?
Speaking of PR , how about that end of the year move by Felton when asked about his job, to put it in terms of “if i get fired it will not be for what the administration has been preaching about since I’ve been here, it would be for some hypocritical counting of win totals” or something like that. Who says he can’t draw up a play?

How easy it would have been for Felton to overlook the indiscretions of Takais and Mike under the great expectations of a breakout season? Extremely easy.
Damon decided to instill a tough policy (fines for missing class/academic appointments, harsh suspensions) to get the graduation rates up in all sports. Men’s Basketball has historically been one of the worst performing teams, academically. Felton’s actions (with the suspensions and expulsions) have been in line with that policy and goal of raised academic rates.
Do you people not think this was clearly communicated to Felton along with all other coaches? Felton’s actions combined with a down season are more likely to help him keep his job rather than ignoring new policies in order to have a breakout season.
If Damon stays true to his stated goals of academic improvement then its a no-brainer that he will keep Felton.

Don’t you guys know that Damon Evans set up Felton?
He knew full well that at least 1 player and probably more wouldn’t last with the tutoring policy. Once the players were dismissed from this particular team, he knew wins would be hard to come by and with that fans would become disgruntled, prodded of course by the repeated questions of job security by the AJC.
You’ve got to understand something, Damon Evans didn’t hire Dennis Felton. I know for a fact he got p** at him 2 years ago when Coach Felton went to the papers with his concerns that the Administration wasn’t giving the program their full support (which they weren’t and from experience I contend never will). I’m sure this still leaves a bad taste in Damon Evan’s mouth.
Oh yeah, did we ever hear why Mercer and Humphrey’s apartment was searched? And more importantly who tipped the authorities? A fantastic ploy to generate even more bad news for the program.
Whatever you have to do to build your case I suppose?

Who are the worst coaches still at their school ?
IPTAY, Climpson Farmers don’t even have a winning bowl record. Georgia has 24 Bowl Wins (and 3 ties to only 16 defeats), and Georgia has won 2 of 3 BCS Bowls in just the last 6 years.
Georgia has won 9 of our last 11 bowl games back to 1997, 11 years ago. All 11 consecutive years back to 1997 UGA has ended up in the Final AP Poll Top 25. UGA finished No. 2 under Coach Richt this just past 2007-2008 season in the AP Poll and No. 3 in the AP Poll in the 2002-2003 season. Both times, Coach Richt won his BCS Bowl Game.
As for deserving to be in a BCS Bowl Game, this discussion has broken out because the list does not include ANY information about who in the hell won the BCS Bowl Games.
The SEC wins the most bowl games every year. This past season, no different.
Booby Bowden has won a grand total of 1 BCS Bowl Games, one-half the number of Coach Richt who did not take this job until the 2001-2002 season. Booby Bowden’s only BCS Bowl Game win was following the 1999 season. In fact, when Vincent Joseph Dooley stole Coach Richt from Florida State December 2000, Georgia has won 73 games and lost but 19. Since the day Coach Richt told Vince Dooley at 2 am that he indeed is taking the UGA job, Booby Bowden has Lost 33 games and won but 58.

Booby Bowden and his half-wit girl son, Tammy are the most inept coaches still at their school since the day Coach Richt took this gig, bar none. Both are in the ACC.
That’s not in the Top 25 for Florida State, while UGA finds but 6 better since the day Coach Richt took this gig, and left Florida State without a single solitary quarterback since.
Tammy Bowden was hired by Climpson 1999, after Climpson Farmers had gone 3-8 in 1998. Tammy Bowden finds not 6 like Coach Richt, but 31 who have done better than Tammy Bowden starting 1999. As a matter of fact, Climpson Farmers have gone 42 Losses and only 69 wins starting 1999, this season being his 10th year at Climpson. Tammy Bowden averages 5 Losses every year in a stinky conference of nobodies.
Booby Bowden’s half-wit girl son, Tammy, was ranked in the Final AP Poll Number 21 this past season. Congratulations; Coach Richt is No. 2.
Tammy Bowden was ranked No. 21 in 2005-2006 while Coach Richt was again in the Top 10 that year too.
Tammy Bowden was ranked No. 22 in the 2003-2004 Final AP Poll. Again, congratulations; Coach Richt was No. 7.
Tammy Bowden has not once been ranked higher than Coach Richt. And, Coach Richt has been ranked every single year, 7 consecutively and counting, in the Final AP Poll, while Tammy Bowden has in the same timeframe been ranked 3 of 7 AP Poll and not once higher than No. 21. Coach Richt has averaged a Final AP Poll Ranking of Top 10.

Today is Saturday, the day before Championship Sunday, and Dennis Felton and Georgia are STILL PLAYING. Paul Hewitt and Georgia Tech are NOT. And, it is Tammy Bowden and Booby Bowden of the ACC that the AJ-C should crawl all over. Or, Paul Hewitt.
Again, 3 times in the 7 years Coach Richt has coached UGA to average Top 10 Rankings in the AP Poll, Tammy Bowden has finished No. 21 or No. 22.
The other 4 years, Tammy Bowden hasn’t been ranked at all.
Tammy Bowden, head-to-head with Coach Richt, Climpson Farmers have never beaten Coach Richt. As a matter of fact, no ACC team has ever beaten Coach Richt.
This includes the last game head-to-head in which DJ Shockley was the Player of the Game at the Death Valley 30-0.
Climpson Farmers in a BCS Bowl Game ?
Climpson Farmers have never been to a BCS Bowl Game, ever.
But, then again, that’s why you’re listed at the top of the list for the most fruitless job of appearing in BCS Bowl Games.
No wonder you want to talk about UGA having one of the most impressive BCS Bowl Records at 2-1, having lost only 1 BCS Bowl game ever by 3 points on a fake punt.

Felton and his dawgs have made, and will make me proud to be a Bulldog for a long time to come. The facade of the “Felton hot-seat” argument is now closed. Thanks for your input, but now sir, it is time for you to shove it. Go dawgs!!!

Georgia Tech fans (both of you), Where are you now ? And, you Chipper Towers, are conspicuously missing as well, sir.
Georgia Tech is getting plenty of publicity for having such a sorry engineered basketball gymnasium. Every few minutes, several towel boys have to go on the Cremins’ Court and wipe up the rain because the roof still leaks. And, it sounds like a high school game in there. Alexander Memorial Coliseum is a joke. It always has been, like “historic” Grant Field.
Well, it is Championship Sunday and NCAA Tournament Bracket day. Georgia, at 16-16, has good wins over Arkansas by 13 at our house, over Georgia Tech, over Kentucky, over Wake Forest, over Alabama, over Ole Miss in the early game yesterday and over Mississippi State in the nightcap at Tech’s lousy itty-bitty poorly engineered basketball guy which has always been called the big tet by everyone in Atlanta.
I thought Kentucky was a bunch of babies when we beat them, and very poor sports.
Mississippi State didn’t take it very well either, while we are on the topic.
But, Georgia has played at this venue, not that Georgia Tech has scheduled other SEC teams – just Georgia except for the 92-79 slaughter of Georgia Tech by Vanderbilt.
Of course, Arkansas beat Vanderbilt to knock Vanderbilt out of the SEC Championship Tournament.
Georgia Tech had wins over just Climpson Farmers and Notre Shame.
And, Georgia’s record is better than Georgia Tech’s no matter the outcome of today’s SEC Championship Game.
Championship Sunday and Georgia is still playing.
Ole Miss.
Kentucky.
Mississippi State.
Bring on Arkansas.
By the way, Tech fans all 4 of those SEC teams are NCAA Tournament Teams and Georgia has already beat all 4 – just as Georgia Slaughtered Georgia Tech 79-72.

Excuse me, for looking it up and getting it right liar Georgia Tech fans, both of you.
You said that Paul Hewitt has a Losing Record against UGA in Men’s Basketball because he played his 1st game in Athens.
BS.
Vince Dooley hired Andy Landers, while we are on the topic of this blog’s BS about Georgia being worse than Georgia Tech in men’s basketball this season and all the BS by the AJ-C how not Paul Hewitt but Dennis Felton needs to be discussed as to whether both Dennis Felton and Andy Landers should be fired.
Georgia was 37-85 when Vince hired Andy Landers in 1979. Since that date, Andy Landers has won for Georgia 788 of 1011 games, which is 78 percent.
The Lady Bulldogs are ranked in the Top 25 at Number 24 today. 22-9 is Andy Landers’ Record this season.
4 Times Andy Landers has been named The National Coach of The Year.
24 NCAA Tournaments in 29 years at UGA for Andy Landers.
4 NCAA Final Fours.
His gals have won 6 Gold Medals in the Olympics.
11 of his gals have been named Kodak All-America Basketball players and he has a 12th this season.

Just like last time when you came in here and tried to correct me and lied then too about the names of your own stinky Georgia Tech athletic venues, you have done it again.
24.4 Wins per season is bettered by only two (2) coaches in America.
Andy Landers was ELECTED to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame last year.
Never had a Losing Season for a program that was 37-85 when Vince hired him.
The WNBA is filled with his players.
Tammy Bowden should be fired.
Booby Bowden should be fired.
Joe Paterno should be fired.
Phil Fulmer should be fired.
We were the 5th best in the state of Georgia women’s basketball program in 1979 when Andy Landers started. Today, Georgia is the 5th best All-Time of All Colleges in the Women’s AP Poll.
There have been only 3 other schools in America who have not had a Losing Record any single season with Andy Landers.
There have been only 3 other schools in America who have More Wins than Andy Landers since he took over for us.
By ............................................BuLLdawg

Andy Landers coaches an aggressive pressure defense.
4 SEC Championship Tournaments Champions for Andy Landers.
7 SEC Championships Regular Season for Andy Landers.
And, Georgia Tech should tear down what remains of all of their athletic venues and try to prove that they are capable of engineering any single athletic venue, ever.
Georgia has Won The SEC Championship in Men’s Basketball before, in the year after Dominique Wilkins left to The NBA.
MaChelle Joseph is 1-3 vs. Andy Landers at Georgia Tech in Women’s Basketball, which means she loses both at Georgia and in Atlanta at this crappy gym. This season, she refused to shake Andy Landers’ out-stretched hand when he beat her 71-64 by the same blowout 7-points Dennis Felton beat *Paul Hewitt *by. This makes Andy Landers 27-2 against Georgia Tech.
Paul Hewitt 2-5 vs. Georgia Men’s Basketball, which means he Loses both at Georgia and in Atlanta at this crappy gym.
And, this blog says daily that Dennis Felton and Andy Landers both must be fired.
BS. Paul Hewitt should be for being a worse basketball team than UGA, by a long shot.

G. Georgia State University also has lost its president this year, and one must only hope the same could happen to Michael F. Adam$.
Georgia Tech has won 1 SEC Championship Tournament and 1 SEC Regular Season Championship in 1938.
GEORGIA TECH’S ALEXANDER MEMORIAL COLISEUM RETURNS TO ITS ROOTS ?
Georgia Tech has NEVER HOSTED The SEC Championship at its venues and would NOT have this season either in men’s basketball, quoting the AJ-C this morning - Page E4 Tony Blowhart : “We met all night and kicked around every option we had,” said Mitch Barnhart, Kentucky’s Athletic Director.
” There were NO GOOD ONES. “
Georgia, too, has Won 1 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament and Won 1 SEC Men’s Basketball Regular Season SEC Championship.

Felton should be given one more year. He is tough and expects the most of his players off the court as well as on the court. One injury could stop their playing for good and they need the ability to gain jobs. In order to get jobs, they need a college education. I applaud his toughness and think he walked into a very tough situation.

Take your BRIEF REPRIEVE, and shove it.
.
.
The Atlantic 10 is a strong men’s basketball conference this season. Xavier Musketeers are a legitimate consensus Top 10 team this season. Just because I haven’t heard of any of the team that they beat, doesn’t alter the fact that Xavier has done very well this season.
Can they beat UGA ?
I don’t think that there are any games in The NCAA Tourney which UGA will win this season.
I was hoping all season long, since before the season started to be in The NIT Postseason Tournament. UGA took Ole Miss’s NCAA Bid, so we are Not In the NIT, and Ole Miss is. Ole Miss should have been in The NCAA Big Dance. But, Ole Miss could not beat UGA when the NCAA committee was sequestered watching them.
Ole Miss is out.
As for this Mark Bradley AJ-C CLOWN, he stated THIS MORNING that there would be AS MANY NCAA bids for The Big Ten (11) and ACC as there would be SEC. I said that was BS.
All along, I said that was BS.
The ACC ?
By ............................................BuLLdawg
March 16, 2008 8:01 PM | Link to this
ACC : 4.
Big Ten (11) : 4.
SEC : 6.
Georgia did sit there and cry and whine. UGA went out there with heart and guts and WON. We earned our NCAA bid.
As for Virginia Tech being in the NCAA; they are NOT. And, I told you all along, VT would NOT be.
Maryland ?
I also said all along that Maryland would NOT be.
Georgia Tech, I said that they were NOT as Good as Georgia IS.
In 1983, UGA Won The SEC Tournament SEC Championship. In 1990, UGA Won The SEC Regular Season Championship. In 2008, UGA Won The SEC Tournament SEC Championship.
Georgia Tech had 1 season in which they accomplished ANY of this in The SEC : 1938.
Georgia has a WINNING RECORD. Georgia Tech has a LOSING RECORD.
There are four (4) of the 65 teams in The March Madness who had a tougher strength of schedule than UGA.
Xavier is one of them.
Don’t give me this crap the ACC is the best men’s basketball conference. That’s BS.
According to The NCAA.
A friend pointed out to me that The AJ-C does NOT decide who is fired and who is NOT.
Did you get that Chipper Towers ?
Hey, Chipper Towers, who is the better men’s basketball team this season, Georgia Tech or Georgia ?

I don’t know if Felton is a great coach or not, but his players responded for a great run this weekend under very difficult circustances. It would have been too easy to just pack it in and go home, but these guys made it work and you have to give Felton credit for their play. This SEC Championship should earn him an extension and a raise.

Any Uga fan who ever thought Evans should fire Felton CAN GO FOR TECH OR SOME OTHER TEAM!!! I watched Uga lose to Usc at Usc,and to Tennessee and Ole Miss in Athens. I seriously thought Uga was just short of being really good. Felton always has been a class act, and though his discipline Uga is at the top of the SEC, and next year how about us dawgs try to fill up Stegman like we do Sanford. Let’s get behind Uga b-ball and become a powerhouse. Yes. You are right and for a school who has won now 10 games at their Tech gym, isn’t it weird they say we don’t win there ?
The ACC does NOT have more NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships than The SEC does. The SEC has Won the last two in a row. The ACC does not send more of its teams to the NCAA Tournament, as this season the ACC sends 4 and the SEC fifty-percent more with 6 men’s NCAA Tournament Teams.
Georgia, Vanderbilt and Tennessee send their men’s and women’s teams to the NCAA Tournament. These are the only 3 SEC schools to accomplish this feat this season.
Tennessee women hold the most NCAA Tournament Championships with 7. The ACC has a grand total of two, 1 Maryland and 1 North Carolina – and, that’s it for the ACC.
Kentucky is 2nd in the men’s NCAA Tournament Championships with 7, same as Tennessee Women’s 7 to-date. Only UCLA has more than KY in men’s and no school has more than Tennessee Women’s 7. Arkansas once and Florida last two years running also have NCAA Men’s Tournament Championships. The ACC does NOT have more in either men’s or women’s than The SEC.
A number 3 seed, such as Xavier, has beaten the number 14 seed, such as UGA, 77 of the 92 times played 84 percent.
Georgia has now 3 SEC Tournament MVPs Dominique Wilkins 1981 Ver Fleming 1983 and 2008 Sundiata Gaines.
Georgia has twice won The SEC Tournament SEC Championship, 1983 and 2008. Georgia also won The SEC Regular Season Championship in 1990.
With 9 Scholarship Players, Georgia goes into our 10th NCAA men’s tournament (We have also been to 25 of the last 27 Women’s NCAA Tournaments.) In men’s NCAA Tournaments Georgia is 7-9 with a Final 4 and a Sweet 16.

I see that the AJ-C has demoted Chipper Towers for this blog that remains The Blog for us still - while other writers write of the success of UGA Men’s Basketball and Coach Dennis Felton specifically.
Dennis Felton Memorial Coliseum at Historic Sundiata Gaines-Dave Bliss Court.
Florida State was bounced by Akron Zits 65-60 in the NIT Tournament while Ole Miss and Florida won.
Georgia Tech did not win 3 games at home in a row all season long.
12:20 p.m. tomorrow afternoon on TV, yeah right. They are not going to televise this men’s basketball NCAA Tournament game with Georgia at Xavier in Washington D.C. They never televise these games. They bounce back and forth from one game to another during every telecast. It is what is maddening about March Madness. This game is on Georgetown’s Home Floor. 77 of 92 times the Number 14 seed in The NCAA Men’s Tournament faced the Number 3 seed, the Number 3 seed has prevailed. UGA No. 14 seed and Xavier No. 3 seed.
UGA VI is selected as the NCAA Tournament Top Mascot Number 1 Mascot. Mississippi State’s bulldog was selected number 2.
If The Georgia Bulldogs are not The 2008 SEC Tournament Champions Georgia Bulldogs, what is this then, pray tell ?

Kentucky is 100-44 in NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament for The SEC. Georgia is 7-9. Tennessee vols are 11-16. Georgia Tech was 1-1 for The SEC (1960.) Mississippi State is 10-8. Arkansas is 18-10. Vanderbilt is 9-10. That’s all 6 SEC teams in the Men’s Basketball NCAA Tournament 2008. Did I mention there are but 4 ACC teams, as I directly 100 percent guaranteed all basketball season long in every blog ?
Georgia Tech is 15-17. Georgia is 17-16.
This is Georgia’s 14th game of the season against an NCAA Tournament Foe. Georgia has Won 4 of these games, standing at 4-9.
We beat Arkansas earlier in the season, and of course, beat Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi State to Win The SEC Championship on Tech’s lousy home court in the last 3 consecutive games (all NCAA Tournament Teams.)
We also beat the crap out of Georgia Tech 79-72. But, Chipper Towers said neither team was any good and he GUARANTEED that Georgia would NOT make the NIT or NCAA Tournament.
I took exception to his BS, in case he has forgotten.

Georgia Tech also has played 14 games against teams in the NCAA Tournament this season. Georgia Tech won two (2), half of Georgia’s Number.
2-12 Georgia Tech vs. NCAA Tournament teams 2008.
4-9 Georgia Bulldogs vs. NCAA Tournament teams 2008.
6 SEC Teams made the NCAA Tournament. 4 from the stinky ACC made it. Florida State has already lost in the NIT Tournament, while Ole Miss and Florida both won.
Who is the better team Chipper Towers 2008 ?
Georgia ?
Or
Georgia Tech ?
Georgia Tech beat Climpson Farmers and Notre Shame, and that is it all season long.
Georgia this season beat Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Arkansas twice, Alabama, South Carolina, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Kentucky.
Georgia enjoyed its 3rd season in which it either won the SEC regular season Championship or the SEC Tournament Championship.
Georgia Tech has accomplished either of these feats a grand total of one season, 1938.

What an idiot! Nationally prestigious? renowned? R U Serious! UGA’s law school is not even the top ranked law school in Georgia! It’s not in the top 5, top 10, top 20, or top 30. the heck with a reprieve it should give him an extra week at the ncaa tourney for him to land another job as an assistant in a division l program or the head coach position at a division 2 program.felton needs to go,his program stays in disarray, players are being suspended constantly or some other disciplinary problem exists.if georgia brings him back only give him a one year contract.i know he’ll probably seek a multi year deal because he feels the ball is in his court.it would be a mistake to grant him a multi year deal.

At least the AJC has allowed people to put up links so we can get UGA news from other sites, since the AJC’s UGA blogs have become a joke. Chip, where the heck are you???

Now I’m really worried about Chip.
This just isn’t like him or the AJC to go two weeks between blogs, especially during Spring ball with nothing else really happening in sports in the state of Georgia.
I hope that he and his family are OK.

. . Hey …………BuLLpuppy,
Here’s some FACTS for ya. Read ‘em and weep!!

Let me help you - You will need to scroll down to #295 (tied) to see that school you think is so great. And BTW - you will be scrolling past GT at # 97…… You will also have to pass UF (135) and UT (289) to get there.
Good thing they went all the way to 400 so you could at least make the top 75 percent of the list….

HEY GUYS!!! Yes, I am alive and well. Thanks for caring, those of you that expressed concern… .
There’s a couple of things going on. First of all, back while the Bulldogs were in the midst of their postseason basketball run, something happened with my password and stuff that locked me out from being able to post blogs. This all happened as the SEC tournament debacle was unfolding. As I was busy covering that and all the stuff that went with it I didn’t get a chance to get with our IT folks and get it worked out. I finally got somebody right before I went to Washington D.C. for the NCAAs but, when I got up there, the information I got about changing my password didn’t work and I didn’t have time to fool with it further. When I returned to Atlanta following the NCAAs I went straight into some comp time that was owed me… .
So, to update you, I’m back at work today but I still haven’t gotten my interface issue squared away. I hope to have that resolved by the end of the day and will have something up tomorrow, the computer gods willing… .
In the meantime I guess I’ll just ask those of you that see this to e-mail me directly with any thoughts or suggestions and I’ll get to them just as quick as I can.
Thanks for your patience and we’ll be back to bloggin’ soon!
