UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

Herschel’s new book; UGA’s hoops future
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Wow, what a weird day. I meant to post earlier but I ended up spending all afternoon chasing a bizarre story on Herschel Walker.
If you haven’t seen it yet, apparently Walker has written an autobiography called “Breaking Free” that will be published by Simon and Schuster and released on August 12 this summer. It’s about — and I confirmed this through the publisher — Walker living with multiple-personality disorder.
Very little information is available about the book (which you can preorder for $24.95 at Amazon.com) and, as anybody in this business can tell you, you can get the Pope on the phone easier than you can Herschel Walker. So I’ve left messages all over the place but we can’t reach him to talk about it.
Meanwhile, I talked to Vince Dooley and Frank Ros, two of Herschel’s closest friends here in Georgia, and neither of them knew anything about Herschel having MPD or any other psychological disorder and certainly not that he was writing a book about it. So it’s a strange deal.
Anyway, so that’s what I’ve been doing. I did want to try to generate some talk about the basketball team and their exploits. They need to learn to close out games a little better but they’re actually playing OK considering all the talent they’re missing.
On that note, I ran into Trey Thompkins and his dad at a Georgia game the other day and they’re really excited about joining the Bulldogs next season. Howard Jr, Trey’s dad, really believes his son can give them what they’re missing right now, and that’s a consistent scorer.
Trey’s certainly getting it done at Wesleyan this season. He’s averaging 30 points and 10 rebounds a game and he needs 28 points against Buford Friday night to reach 2,000 for his career. That’s pretty good considering he will have played only two seasons at Wesleyan after spending last year at Oak Hill Academy.
I do think the future shows some promise at Georgia but they definitely need to import more talent, especially along the lines of an explosive wing type.
So there you go. Sorry for the lateness. Feel free to weigh in on Herschel or basketball or football or whatever. I’ll try to stay tuned.

I just hope Herschel doesn’t get to explict about our Secert Society of Spooning that Matty revealed to the Nation.
We need to keep as much of this on the Down low as possible.
Coach Butts is rolling over in his grave about this.

I for one have been very impressed with what’s left of our basketball team. Considering that some of the guys on the team are playing far more than they, Felton or the fans probably expected them to this year (Price, Swansey, etc). Sure there’s been some frustration but the guys that are out there now are playing their fricking guts out.
I only wish all those pseudo-UGA fans out there…the ones that only show up in September and/or when we’re good…would support them 1/8th as much as the football team. Same goes for the baseball team as well…just a month away from taking #1 Arizona at Foley!

Felton had to do 3 things to get the program where we wanted it to be….winning consistantly.
1. Restore credibility so that anyone would even want to play here. 2. Take whoever would be willing to play here and make them at least competitive. 3. Go out and attract better talent each year.I believe he is right on task.

I am a 1981 CJ alumn from UGA, and I had classes with Herschel, and knew his wife, Cindy from O-House dorm. They were both the classiest, delightful people you would ever want to meet. Whatever Herschel has battled, I’m sure he has and will always do with dignity and class as everything else in his life. We all wish you both and your son nothing but the best, and continued health to you all. God Bless!

Wow. I seriously doubt someone like Walker would make this up. Mainly because he is a macho guy, and macho guys don’t want to admit any weakness, especially a mental illness. I hope people are mature and reflective enough to admire his courage, and realize a mental illness is as real as any physical injury.

Herschel Walker is my hero. I am a woman and a graduate of UGA and I could not be more proud of this outstanding representative of our school and our state. He is a class act who sets an unbelievable example of how an athlete should conduct himself on the field, how a husband should respect and love his wife, how a father should raise his children and be an example to them, and how a christian should witness and care for others. I completely respect his decision to share his private life with his admirers and this doesn’t change one thing about how much I adore this man. If anything, it makes me love him more!
Thank you Herschel for always bringing class with you wherever you go! I am a HUGE fan for life! You are the best ever!! We were blessed to have you on our team! Go Dawgs!!

As for Herschel’s book, it’s his story, so I’ll just hold comment until he has a chance to tell it. He has always had my utmost respect, and I do not expect that to change.
As for the bball team, I have some mixed feelings. They do have some talent, and I certainly support them. I have also supported Coach Felton and his decisions since he got to UGA. However, there was a story recently on a player from another school that had had some issues and his coach took an interesting approach. He suspended him indefinately and required him to walk the stadium stairs every morning at 5:30 am if he wanted any hope to return. The coach did not send someone else to check on the player. The coach himself showed up every morning and talked to the player. After about a month, the coach showed up to find the player had arrived early and was running, not walking, the stairs. He was allowed to return to the team and has been fine ever since.
I am wondering if Coach Felton is willing to invest that much of himself in a player and could Mike Mercer have learned a lesson about being a team member and been allowed to return? Coach Felton’s own comments said that Mike begged not to be dismissed and was in good academic standing. Maybe Mercer was a lost cause, but maybe not; maybe the other members of the team agreed with the dismissal, but maybe not;I guess we’ll never know…..
Regardless, we could use a few more of you at the Steg….Go Dawgs!

As a “classless Tech fan” I admire Hershel’s courage for shining the light on what many people keep quiet. He is to be applauded for his bravery knowing the climate surrounding what people perceive as weakness. I despise UGA and their rude fans, but always enjoyed watching him play and admired his ability. I wish him the best of luck. Perhaps the Dawg nation can learn a lesson about class from one of their most talented alums.

There is help for this disorder. I have known two women who have successfully intergrated 13 of their alternate splits. If you are not aware of how someone gets MPD, then google it and get informed. Most happen through childhood sexual trauma…and total healing is available. Dr. Ray Kiertekles is the person to work with. His office is in Norcross…

Lynda, no one said ALL Tech fans are classless. You certainly aren’t. Thanks for the kind words about one of our greats.
I hope that Herschel’s illness is under control and that it was as tolerable as can be expected. MPD is a frightening and potentially debilitating condition. To think that he was able to play college and pro football while suffering is a testament to his will and fortitude.
I’ll be tempted to read this book. I guess that’s what the publisher had in mind…

As far as a personality disorder for Herschel, we all have one. Does it mean that we don’t make sense? That is all of us. We are inconsistent? Yep. We hurt people we love? Yep. We can be more than one person? Yep. Sounds to me like this is a marketing tool to sell a couple more books. Hey, Herschel, you don’t need the money, and where was all this BS last year, 10 years ago, 20 years ago, or when you got the Heisman? Thank you for the Heisman, by the way, I have a personality disorder?? You got took by the publisher, and I am very disappointed.

Herschel has always been a bit of a mystery, but he strikes me as a sincere person. That is evident. He showed up in Athens with a big smile and a thoughtful look in his eyes.
I remember those first press conferences. I am from the South and I could barely understand him. This was no slick egocentric showboating superstar… the kind we are accustomed to in the post-Deion Sanders reality. Instead, he had a shy demeanor and a transcendent innocence… and suddenly camera crews and microphones tuned into his every word. He was on the cover of Sports Illustrated. He was everywhere. He had no privacy, no chance to grow up like a normal person and gain his public confidence. Everyone was desperately counting on him … and he always delivered. He was like a messiah for those of us in Athens at the time… we still talk about him in those terms. It must have been tremendous pressure. Maybe that is why he left early. What more could he give?
I am not surprised that he had some trouble adjusting. It makes you wonder about the incident a few years ago in his garage when he “fell asleep” with the motor running and the garage door closed.
He could have broken all of the NFL yardage records if he had stayed away from Donald Trump. He must also carry baggage from that knowledge.
Does anybody else remember the Eddie Murphy bit when he was on Saturday Night Live during the time when Herschel left UGA for Donald Trump’s money? He played Herschel and kept saying that he really thought he wanted to stay at UGA, but his “thought got stuck in his neck…” Maybe Murphy wasn’t so far from the truth. Maybe the pressure took more of a toll than any of us knew. Whatever happens, I admire the guy and I am genuinely thankful that I was lucky enough to have been a student at UGA at the time. It was truly golden and nothing can tarnish that.

“Call it like it is” Hurting for money? Obviously you don’t know what you are talking about. Herschel is a very successful business man. He is in no way hurting for money.
I had the chance to meet Herschel at Aria a few years ago. He happened to notice that my wife, mother and I were glancing over at his table and recognized who he was. He actually invited us over to his table to say hello an introduce himself to us. What other person who lives in the spotlight would do that? Many famous people are annoyed when they are recognized in restaurants and won’t give people the time of day. Herschel is a class act and always will be.

If you’ll notice in the replays, Bill Bates was in a vunerable position. He had just released from a block and was off balance. Hershel, while a pretty good backer, would not have had the run on Bates had Bates been in a more balanced position. Watch the replay, you’ll see for yourself. Maybe then you’ll layoff all this unfair mischaractorization of Bill.

This could be just the opening I’ve been looking for. For some time I’ve been lobbying - mostly to my fellow Bulldogs and usually over a pitcher or more of beer - that we should petition the NCAA to allow any former player, regardless if he left early to play professionally, once they hit 40, could return to finish their eligibility. You see with one more year Herschel would break the all-time rushing record and would stand alone, probably forever. This way we could add that at least one of his personalities never actually knew he was playing and not only could he finish, he might even be able to start over.
Living in the past? Maybe…but that past is a hellovalot better than any any Techie has ever experienced…it was, is and will always remain, Glorious.

I love how everyone thinks they know something about psychology. The media makes “multiple personality disorder” into a popular culture phenomenon, and yes, I agree that this is all to sell money. Let’s exploit people with mental illness for the purposes of entertainment!
The terms “multiple personality disorder” are outdated - NO ONE in the field uses those words to describe the condition of Dissociative Identity Disorder.
Try this - read a book or do some legit research; not all DID is caused by sexually repressed trauma. Ugh, people.

Now you’ve done gone and done it…you’ve gotten me started on that wonderful night in Knoxville where I stood, arms raised, in absolute awe over what I and 80 or 90 thousand others had just witnessed. Hell, I had tears in my eyes over the thought of what was yet to come. It was the most glorious game I had ever witnessed - even more-so than the ‘65 Alabama game - because it played out over the ensuing three years like none other. If any of you here had had a player even remotely resembling Herschel Walker, you’d still be lighting candles to him and naming your kids and dogs after him.
And as for Bates. He was simply the first in a long line of folks that Herschel ran over, around and away from…Bates could have made that tackle only if he could have fast-forwarded his learning a couple of years and found that the only way to stop HW one-on-one, was to get low enough to trip him. As it was, he got planted and will forever be remembered for it…at least he’ll be remembered…guess how many times that play has been run on YouTube? It changes minute by minute. Herschel was one of those that could run over people that outweighed him by 50 pounds or outrun people that he outweighed by 50. The only one that compares is Bo Jackson - we’ll never see the likes of them again.

I love to see the b-ball team doing well. However, it is difficult for a fan like me to support them. I live about a 20-25 hour car ride from Athens and get very little news on the b-ball team because we are never in the top 25.
They played in my state once this decade and I went and saw them play in enemy territory and barked and cheered as loud as I could.
There is no news on them in my local paper (unlike football), national radio talk shows never discuss them (unlike football) they are never on TV (unlike football) their scores are never reported in ticker form at the bottom of the ESPN channels (unlike football) and their highlights are never shown on ESPN (unlike football).
This team has not gone to the NCAA tourney in many many years… which is essentially the top 40 programs in the country plus small conference winners. This is when everyone pays attention to college basketball and we aren’t playing then.
I am not willing to buy the college b-ball package for a team that can never make the top 40.
Don’t get me wrong, I read about them in the AJC on-line and was glad to see they beat tech and Bama. Two nice wins. I’d like to follow them more, but when the program is not in the top 40, it makes it difficult for out of Region fans.
The program has to take a solid step forward for me to even have a chance to be involved with the team.

buster,a lot of what was said about that famous play came from mr bates himself, when walker joined the cowboys.bates said that he had plans to level the freshman because of all the hype surronding him.bates was the hardest hitter on ut’s team, again according to his own words.he took his shot at walker and when he regained his senses,i don’t know if you have played football or not,but after a hard hit it takes a second or two to gather yourself, and heard the crowd going crazy.bates thought all the noise was due to the hit he put on this guy, then he saw walker tossing the ball to the ref in the endzone!i have watched that replay many times too,and i noticed that walker comes to almost a complete stop at the hit.when a 220 lb rb with walker’s speed comes to a dead stop at a collision believe me that is a hard hit!bates was not an overly big man,and walker’s pad level was low,but still it was a great play.i remember bates well,i loved watching him play with the cowboys.he reminded me of dan reeves when he was with the same team, both were not the best of athletes, not too big,not too fast, but smart and tough.either man could play almost every posistion on the field.i would not have been suprised to see landry play either bates or reeves at pk!bates would even line up at dt for the cowboys in some passing situations.everyone in the nfl is such a specialist today that i don’t think we will see this kind of”utility infielder”again.we fans are poorer for it.

Felton gives up on his players too quickly and simply cuts them loose rather than dealing with them as individuals. This team is playing hard and one one say is building to the future - until Felton kicks his next set of players off the team. The scandal was five years ago and is so ancient history that it is ridiculous to keep bringing it up. Don’t fire him, I guess. I think we need to just adjust to the fact that we are not going to have much of a basketball program.

I saw Herschel a couple of times on campus - but it was like that line from Fast Times at Ridgemont High: “I thought they just flew him in for the games”.
Completely unrelated — for the hard-core Athens group, T.K. Harty’s killer was released from prison a few weeks ago. I came across the notice by accident. I had a class at UGA where the interrogator of the killer spoke - he said the assassin was the most cold blooded person he had ever met; the guy showed no emotion, no remorse, nothing. The Athens DA was interviewed and was totally shocked that the parole board released the killer.

war eagle, you and i have had this discussion bfore,so we will no doubt disagree again.you are a knowledgeable man and a class act, but, imo, you made one misstatement.herschel did have an injury that plagued him throughout his last season at uga and possibly longer.his shoulder would often pop out of joint after a hit.having played football yourself i know you are aware of just how painful that is.he would have to come out of the game to have it put back in place and sit out for a play or two.that was one reason the trainers designed those over-sized shoulder pads for him.while i don’t know if you consider that serious it certainly limited him in games.herschel had surgery done in an attempt to correct this problem before his first pro season, but i am not sure how much it affected his future play.sports medicine of twenty five years ago was not nearly as effective as today’s,as i am sure you know.other than that we pretty much agree,i think bo was the better athlete,as evidenced by his ability to play major league baseball too.other than”neon dion”,who was no slouch as an athlete himself,i don’t know of any others that played two pro sports at so high a level.speaking of sports medicine, and you being an old baller, have you had knee replacement yet?my knees are getting worse by the day,but i am going to put it off as long as i can!

WOW. I am speechless. I never would have imagined that Herschel would have been living with something this serious. I have always loved Herschel, thought him to be an updstanding citizen, contributor to his community, a role model in what a super-star athelete should be in terms of behavior and attitude. I cannot imagine the courage it must have taken for him to decide to come out with this. As someone who suffers with a mental illness myself, I can understand what a difficult decison that must have been - BRAVO, HERSCHEL!!!
And to georgiadawgs, this is no differnt than an actor coming out about an addiction or medical condition. Celebrities do this to bring validity to the fact that these things are REAL, and there IS help for it….and it is nothing to be ashamed of.

dumbing down, you know nothing about div 1 football.who would hire a forty plus div 1 starter?anyone who wants an extremely competitive, hard working self-starter!i have had the honor of knowing several men who have played div i football, and have worked with a couple who played div 1 and gone on to play on sunday.if you don’t know any of these guys you have no idea what it’s like to compete with them.they will start work before you do and keep working after you have gone home, because they cannot stand to lose!they also orginize their time very well because thay had to in college.just think about this, div one schools have 85 scholarships to give out and only 22 can start.so every day some kid is working his tail off to take your slot.then next year the new recruits come in and one may be a better player than you.want to keep your job?well you had better out work him!plus if you don’t keep up your academics you will be suspended and someone else will start in your place.when you come back you have got to start over and try to win it all back.like any group of people there are a few bad apples, but in major college sports they get a lot of attention.looking at what the few guys at uga that got into trouble did last year,i did much worse in my day and i didn’t play in div 1.by the way, before you call all football players dumb,my friend that played pro ball was an academic all-american.yep,3.5 average for four years at a major university.although i never had the pleasure of meeting herschel i know several that have and they all say that he is well-spoken and very polite.no one i know that has met him thinks that he is dumb!as for ole herschel wanting to take a shot a spurrier,if they had a line to punch the old ball coach in the nose everybody would have totake a number!man, what a line,100,000 or so uga fans, phil fulmer, and half the state of alabama!

82, would I be correct in that you really have no earthly idea what transpired between Felton and any players? But you can say for certain that he mishandled it?
That somewhat reminds me of how only 6 weeks ago you said you knew for sure that Coach Martinez was “out of his league” “we would NEVER be any good till somebody like VG was here” (despite being so every year since he left) and this year’s UGA defense was the “WORST performing defense in the history of the program”… read that again, I’m not making that up.
Perhaps you tend to overexagerate a tad and make snappy assesments?
Chill out on Felton. Not sure how you think trashing him is helpful.

war eagle, herschel was not the type to complain about an injury, and dooley certainly kept quiet about it.no sense in tipping anyone off about a possible weakness,i just remember that in the nc game against penn st he had to keep coming out to get that shoulder fixed.thomas brown is the same type player,he broke his collar bone against ole miss, but went back in to take the game over.since brown didn’t say anything the staff assumed it was just a deep bruise.then, when the pain got so bad in the ut game he had to come out.later,ex-rays showed the fracture.i was serious about that knee replacement question,on long drives i stop every hour or so and walk around, but getting out of the car gets harder and harder.i could really tell it in n.o.,all that walking in the french quarter, then going up to our seats, and walking back from the game,it damn near killed me!

They swear they would have had it done a lot sooner if they had know how much better it feels. It makes a world of difference. Guess who is the Worst Men’s Basketball Conference ?
The Big Ten (11) in this sport too.
The Big 10 is worse than the Big XII.
Worse than the Big East.
Worse that the ACC.
Worse than the Pac-10.
And, worse than The SEC.
The Big 10 is 93-40 in non-conference play, for the dead last worst winning percentage of the BCS Conferences in this sport as well.
This is only 69% winning percentage, also dead last in this sport too, among all BCS Conferences in Men’s Basketball.
And, their posters come in here and tell us that the North won the War of Northern Aggression.
I ain’t impressed.

With “quarterbacks” like Tommy Tuberville has had on the Plains, it’s no wonder you don’t want to talk about the fact that :
Coach Richt has beat Tubs’ Auburn team 4 of the last 6 games head-to-head.
Coach Richt has been ranked ahead of Tubs’ Auburn teams 5 of the last 7 tears in the Final AP Poll.
Coach Richt is 72-19 while Tubs’ Auburn teams the same last 7 years have only been 66-23.
Now, what was it you said Auburn was better at under Tommy Tuberville than Coach Richt ?

Mental illness is not a laughing matter. Having said that, my Oklahoma-grad co-worker just said that maybe the trade of Herschel to the Vikings for 5 roster players and 6 draft picks was a one-for-one deal after all.

Is this for real or just some publicity stunt to sell books? I mean if someone has a multiple personality disorder don’t you think that closest family and friends would have an idea that something was wrong. One of his best friends and closest teammates for over 28 years never detected even the slightest hint something was awry? Come’on. I’m not buying this story. I have read that people with this disorder have terrible memory lapses and can’t remember monumental events in their life. His family has now gone public doubting the validity of this story. Sounds like the big dog is tryin to cash in!

Hey Chipper Towers
Georgia only needs four (4) more wins in The SEC to make a post season tournament, while Georgia Tech has to win 9 more.
**Nah, Georgia isn’t better than Georgia Tech in Men’s Basketball. That’s why we keep beating their butts at it.
We noted, with muted glee Chipper that Georgia beat Alabama in Men’s Basketball and you wrote we did all we could do to lose it.
Oh, AND we noted with muted glee that Georgia Tech LOST AGAIN and the AJ-C said that Tech is great.

OK… aside from the fact that uga_sucks is an imbecilic jerk with no interest in actual facts, let’s pretend for a moment that he offers a logical argument just for fun. He and others have said that “Herschel was a flop in the NFL.” That is not true by any stretch. He lead the league in rushing and all purpose yardage in 1988 with over 2000 yards. He averaged over 4 yards a carry for the duration of a 14 year career. This was after he wasted 3 prime years of his career with his stint in the USFL.
In 1992, 12 years after his splash as a freshman at UGA, Walker rushed for over 1000 yards for the Eagles. No he was not Jim Brown or OJ… but he certainly had a respectable career. What is tragic is that he could have achieved so much more had circumstances been different. Now we find out that there were other factors that none of us knew about.
What people who trash his career remember is his failure to live up to the price that Minnesota paid to bring him up north. It was one of the worst deals ever made( or best if you are a Cowboy fan). However, they all forget why the Vikings agreed to pay such a price in the first place. Herschel had rare talent, but after Georgia, it showed sporadically. For whatever reason, it failed him as a Viking. In reality, his fate was not so unusual. There a many guys who are traded and fall off in production, especially running backs 5 years after college. So… anybody with a brain have any real info to dispute the truth… all of you cheap shot idiots… You have no voice. You are invisible and I will not acknowledge you again.

How could you be ?
I mean 6 consecutive seasons in a row now the vols have been ranked worse than The Bulldogs in the Final AP Poll.
And, counting.
And, while Coach Richt is 72-19, Philip Fulmer has gone 63-27.
And, counting.
Even with the bowl win this last season Since the Tainted National Championship where Tee Martin was paid over $7000 within 3 weeks of the game at Quick Trip wire transfers and denied it for 5 years (And, then spoke in the 3rd person saying : “That was a different Tee Martin back then; I’m a better person now and found Jesus finally. I would never have taken those monies today” he admits.), Philip Fulmer has lost 5 of the 8 bowl games.
And, he has not recruited well, as a direct result.
CBS Sportsline dot com shows UGA with 49 on NFL Rosters and shows Fulmer has dropped down to only 41 on NFL rosters.
ESPN shows UGA has 47 on NFL rosters and the vols have dropped down to only 40 on NFL rosters.
I count 7 of your 40 or 41 on NFL rosters still in the playoffs.
Does that answer your question ?
The vols do NOT look particularly strong any longer for recruiting those who go on to the NFL, not compared to Coach Richt. Nice topic for you there.*

I guarantee that the editor is saying this so he can sell books. I bet he says in his book that he was two different people while playing football. I’m reading a book right now about the 1980 Dawgs and his teammates said that at practice he was mild mannered and you wouldn’t think he would be that great. He would just run through practice not hitting hard. At the games he was the goal line stalker. I don’t believe until I read the books that he has MPS like everyone is talking about. Bank it. What planet have those friends of Hershel been on? Not only did he claim to only eat 1 meal a day, he tried to commit suicide about 12 years ago (that the public knows of); his ex-wife is scared to death of him and he totes himself as a Private Investigator and a Police Officer and an Army Ranger and all other kinds of professions and he hits on and sleeps with everything that moves and claims the Mob is after him (his ex-wife’s family) and at the same time, has a much charisma as OJ Simpson. Thanks for the comment. I agree 100% and I will be the first to admit that I have made a ton of mistakes and mistakes worthy enough to sit in hours of pontification and self introspection and abasement of Martin Luther proportions but i was just simply making an observation of the Hershel that i have come to know. Don’t get me wrong, i don’t know him well at all but I have friends that have received death threats from the guy and other crazy things. I do thing it’s funny that he has been able to keep a squeaky clean image for so long yet another circle of people know a completely different Hershel, unless those friends are as just afraid of him as well?
Hating to get back on OJ but how long was he able to keep a squeaky clean image before the murder trail begun??? OJ is as charismatic as any tv preacher in the land and that charisma can fool a lot of people for a long time. That’s all I’m really trying to say.

Junk.
6 consecutive seasons in a row now the vols have been ranked worse than The Bulldogs in the Final AP Poll.
Fulmer did what back when ?
Coach Richt is 72-19, Philip Fulmer has gone 63-27 in the same last 7 consecutive seasons. That’s what Fulmer has done in recent memory.
Why don’t you tell me I have selective memory again ? Selecting of course every stinking year of Fulmer for the last 6 seasons ranked worse than Coach Richt in the Final AP Poll.
And, counting.
And, he has not recruited well, unless you consider pot smoking on a recruiting trip good recruiting last weekend ?

Volman, seems that you have already been humping the keg. Surely, as a Volunteers fan, you couldn’t be calling the Dawgs out on class…could you? Really? Hmmmm. Do the UT players still get a “THINK” card? In case you were uninformed, this is a little orange card given to players by the coaching staff. Apparently, UT players are so stupid and so frequently get into trouble with the law, that Phat Phil felt these cards necessary. I guess they are supposed to represent some sort of replacement for a conscience. I would say that just the existance of the “THINK” card puts your Vols on a level of class similar to that of Miami. On a serious note : IMO, the Vols are recruiting poorly due to the recent uncertainty in the coaching ranks ( i.e. the offense side and HC ). I don’t expect many, if any, 4 or 5 star players from this years inbound batch of high school hatchlings, but if the new O staff can excite next years recruits, I’ll take that as a positive move…Whenever HCing changes are mentioned or feared to be an item, recruits may tend to look the another way…It’s been the norm around the country from UCLA to Nebraska, to FSU and up at PSU in the recent distant past…It’ll all be okay and work itself out in time…

Gen. only a few “4-5 stars” remaining this year. I am not a firm believer in stars, I seen 4-5 stars dwindle and 2 stars make All- SEC. Tenn. like UGA and Auburn had few seniors. Auburn was going to commit only 18-20, but had some drop-outs(non-playing stars)leave. This is slow year for Vols in recruiting, Bama and Dawgs making a killing, but question, especially Bama..How many will qualify or JUCO?

Maybe the Vikings thought they were getting all those personalities when they traded their future for Walker and gave the Cowboys the foundation for three Super Bowls?

Hello, my Fellow Reprobates! All I know is that when #34 got that football, something was going to happen. I love you, Herschel! I too thought it was unusual for him to threaten to whip the Evil Genius’s rear end. I will always be a Herschel Walker fan. Always. Your Reprobate Reverend, Jimmy Jack Bourbon

RayGoof:
You are so right. I see those Georgia-issued “Auburn” license plates and it just burns me up. If Auburn is an institution of the State of Alabama, why in God’s name is the State of Georgia supporting that school? My wife has been telling me that it’s just a matter of time before you start seeing UF plates in Georgia too.
Chip, if you’re still reading, this could be a topic worthy of it’s own blog.

I have realized by now, the better your team is and the more your team wins, the more your team is critisized and ridiculed. and its always by people who have no talent and put down everyone else because the good Lord did not bless them at all with any ability to do anything but put the talented people down!
I am not talking about the other teams either, I am talking about the pathetic losers who are dumb enough to really critisize people like Walker who without a freaking doubt was a super hero at being a running back! what kind of moron puts down Herchel? The answer….,the same one who puts down everyoneelse because his life sucks and his highlight of the day is picking his nose because he has no talent at anything but maybe beating the new video game he bought!!
Think about it, you might realize, HEY, thats me he just described?

Volman
yes the Class Act of TN and the SEC -players dealing and doing drugs and the university covering it it up - Phat Phil is a class act - the papers in TN hardly covered the story - Phat Phil has not even done anything to punish the players - yea some class act - drug dealers on your football team - - could that be why recruting is down???? - many parents don’t want thier kids to be part of a program that does that and then takes no respnsibility and looks the other way - You are write you know it is offseason in college football when the Vols get caught selling and doing drugs. Lets see drug dealers vs two young adults (18 and 21 year old) out drinking with other college students (80% of all college students do this even at TN) - I know who I would pick

Bud Man——Are we going to change the University of Florida nickname to the “Party Lizards” when a couple of the Gator football players get busted for underage drinking? You know it’s inevitable; 17 to 20 year-old, under-age college kids drink. Sometimes they get caught even when they’re not doing something stupid. Really. No kidding.

Whoever the jackass was that was claiming Bates just came off a block is out of his mind. I just watched the clip on youtube to double check my memory, and I was right. There is nobody even close to Bates. He sees Herschel coming, gets in front of him, breaks down and lowers his head for the tackle, and BOOM, gets laid the F@$% OUT! Sorry to kill your excuse, but the camera doesn’t lie!

UGA is the ONLY school in college football to have 4 Superbowl MVP’s. Jake Scott, Terry Hoage, Hines Ward and Champ Bailey. Tech says everybody sucks but them and UGa. Tech also says they suck when they play Ga.
