UGA blog finds new home
Morning all. As I’ve said a couple of times this week, we’re converting this blog over to a WordPress platform and it will be a permanent move the first of next week.
Those of you who are regulars probably know that I’m not what you’d call techno-wizard when it comes to these things. But from what I understand the technology offered in this new format should make the blogging and commenting experience better for all. Of course, I’ll be learning as we go along, too. But I’m hoping to provide more pictures and video and things like that which should bring the blog more to life.
Of course, this blog is nothing without all you guys so I want to heartily invite (read: beg) you to come over to the new site by CLICKING HERE ON THE NEW ADDRESS and save it in your browsers. As of Monday, Feb. 23rd, this will be the permanent home of the UGA blog you so love or, in the case of some of you, love to loathe. If you’d prefer to copy and paste or just memorize, the new address is: http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/.
See at the new place!

USC, UF getting more love than UGA
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
As most of you already know, Georgia has gotten a lot of nods as the super early preseason No. 1 football team in 2008, including one from own Tony Barnhart. If you sincerely believe those prognostications, then you should put some money down on it in Las Vegas because you can get some pretty good odds right about now.
I say that not because I’m promoting gambling, but only to point out that the guys in Vegas seem to believe the odds are better for somebody other than Georgia to win the BCS national championship next season. In most cases they cite the Bulldogs’ treacherous schedule as the main reason UGA will come up short.
An outfit called sportsmemo.com has made the Bulldogs 10-to-1 odds to win it all. That’s not bad but it’s also behind Southern Cal (3-1), Florida (6-1) and Oklahoma (8-1). For what it’s worth, defending champion LSU comes in at 12-1, as do Ohio State and Texas.
Bodoglife.com also has the Trojans at 3-1. That group has Georgia, Florida and Ohio State all at 6-1 - the lowest odds I could find on the Dogs - followed by LSU (10-1), Texas (12-1), West Virginia (12-1) and Virginia Tech (15-1).
In fact, most of the gambling sites I looked at had at least a team or two ahead of the Bulldogs and Florida was usually one of them. If it comes to pass that the Georgia and Florida are as good as everybody thinks they’re going to be, can you imagine how big that game World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is going to be in October?
Anyway, Southern Cal was pretty much the consensus pick to win it all, according to the many sites I visited (and I looked at enough to get bleary-eyed). Based on the odds, they seem to figure they’ll play Ohio State or Gators.
So, once again, despite the early annointment by some some national scribes, Georgia doesn’t seem to be attracting similar love from the guys that put money on such things.
Who do you think is right? The Dogs definitely have a difficult path to the BCS title game. Then again, it is a championship-caliber schedule if you can negotiate. Is it way too early to even be thinking about?
What do I think? Ain’t touching it, fellas. Having reported on this game for a couple of decades now, I’ll just say it’s a long spring and summer before football season arrives and there is oh so much that can happen between now and then.
By the way, the BCS title game is in Miami next year. Wouldn’t that serve the Rose Bowl right if USC and Ohio State played in Miami?
Oh, and for what it’s worth, ticket and hotel packages are now available for the 2009 BCS game. True Believers may want to know.

Let ‘em have the love. We need to quit talking and get it done on the field. No better time than next year. If the Dawgs handle that schedule, it will ‘Leave No Doubt’.

Chip, we don’t need any love, we need to win. Florida still won’t have a defense next year. USC will be playing the QB that got beat by Stanford. How lame was that loss? Look for Oklahoma to lay at least one egg, they typically do. OSU won’t get a third shot will they? Sure they will win the Big Ten again, who else can? Rank us where they want but at the end of the season we will be there. Might take some tears from coach Richt but maybe he can ask Miles and Meyer how to cry like that. Just looking at the 17 coming back and the other 5 stepping up I like our chances. We just need to avoid any mental errors (UT & SC) and play like the we did at the end of the season. Stafford will have a great year and that will be the difference. Finally get the numbers up.

I love our team for next year but that schedule is indeed brutal. That’s just more reason for a playoff when potentially the best team in the country could get left out of the title game in lieu of another buckeye appearance due to a pansy-laced Big 10 line up.

Amazing that Dawg fans have already crowned their team BCS champs. UGA has been fortunate that their QB hasn’t been hurt and missed major playing time. All it takes is one good hit and you have Joe Cox and his noodle arm bringing you to an 8-4 season. Don’t get cocky just yet.

Alan, not sure what you’re referring to. Georgia can win national titles with local recruits because of the bevy of in-state talent that we have. The same couldn’t be said for places like Tennessee, Nebraska, or Notre Dame which is why they are forced to focus their energy nationally to compete. No one says that Florida or Texas can’t win titles when most of their talent is home grown.

This is not news. We will never get “love” or “dap” or any other kind of credit for our successes, even if/when we do win a championship. Inevitably USC or Florida or Ohio State will suffer an injury or something that will give ESPN and the other mass sport media an excuse for why black(out) sheep Georgia has snuck into the championship, even if we do have the hardest schedule. Don’t bother yourselves over us getting our respect, because we will never have it. Techies, Gaytors, and the rest will all still hate us, just as we do them. Instead of wondering where our love is, let’s show the Dawgs some love and show up sober enough and on time to cheer on the best football program in the nation. GO DAWGS!

Chip, you have to remember, this isn’t who Vegas necessarily think is going to WIN the national title, but who they think the public will bet on at certain odds. Southern Cal & Florida, for example, have gotten a ton of publicity over the past few years, thus they are very well-known to the general public. The more well-known or “hot” a team is, the more likely John Q. Public will be to bet on them. Thus, Vegas can set their odds lower than they might normally have to to generate action. Vegas doesn’t care who wins, they care who the public THINKS is going to win, & they set their lines & odds accordingly.

It’s never too early to talk some college football. I feel like as long as we are preseason top five all the love we are or are not getting is irrelevant. If we will we will be fine. I guess all those Vegas folks did not see every good team the Gators played last year light up the sky on them. They were progressively worse as the season went along. Selective amnesia?

What team do you support? I am a Georgia fan. Obviously you are not, but what team DO you support?
Joe Cox doesn’t have a noodle arm. He is a very sound backup who led Georgia from behind to beat Colorado.
Incidentally dipstick, can you read? The Georgia fans posting on this blog are all very realistic in their assessment of our chances. Not a one has “crowned their team BCS Champs” as I type this
Georgia is going to be one of the best teams in the country next year. The odds makers are right, the schedule is brutal. It is going to be especially hard to win back to back road games against LSU and Florida, especially since Florida has an off week to prepare while we are in the war at LSU.
The thing is, Georgia has more depth than I have ever seen us have. We will have to see how it plays out, but we definitely have a shot.

I agree that UGA for right now should be considered a pretender NOT a contender. The close of th eseason was nice, but let’s face it they didn’t play anybody. A weak Auburn team that barely got by an ACC team in it’s bowl game, a former div 2 team in Troy, an extremely weak GT team, and they should have lost to Vandy but Vandy pulled a Vandy and could not close the deal. Yes UGA drilled the Rainbows, but did we expect anything less? Of course the voters may show UGA the same love the gave Bobby Bowden when he was “awarded” his first championship. It may very well be UGA’s “turn” to win it this year. But I bet they don’t.

It doesn’t surprise me that USC has the best odds to win the national championship. Think about it. USC is widely regarded as the most talented team, if not one of the most talented alongside UGA, Florida, OK, Ohio State. Their biggest competition for Pac-10 supremacy over the last few years, California, has regressed very rapidly and Oregon appears to have been only good enough as long as Dennis Dixon was running the show. Now Dixon is gone and I doubt many feel Arizona State is going to become a powerhouse on par with USC, even though they were much improved last season. So they don’t have a lot of roadblocks in their way to winning their conference. That’s step one to getting a shot. Step two is handling their nonconference foes. Those opponents are @ Virginia, home against Ohio State and Notre Dame. So possibly the best team in the country only plays one nonconference road game, and it’s Virginia. UVA was improved last season, but they still lost to Wyoming. Notre Dame might improve on their 3 win season, but it won’t be at USC’s expense. That leaves Ohio State as the main stumbling block. But after seeing what LSU did to the Buckeyes, and what USC did to Illinois (the other team that beat OSU), who thinks the Buckeyes will go to LA and beat USC? Not me or likely anyone else. So no matter how good we all know UGA is, they have a long road to hoe to get to Miami. If they win out, they are a no brainer lock. Even if they have a single blemish (as long as it doesn’t keep them from winning the SEC), I think they will play in the title game, unless some other great team goes unblemished besides USC. But as far as odds making goes, USC is definitely in a better position than UGA.

For the life of me, I can’t figure why Oklahoma is even in the conversation!!!! Until they can prove that they can win a BCS game, they don’t belong in the same breath. When Boise State beat them last year it could’ve been called a fluke but WV just undressed them in this years bowl and they have ALOT to prove!!!

Not surprised. since when has UGA gotten any love from the national media? With that schedule it will be tough for the dawgs, but I believe in them. Of course USC has an easier road, they play in the Pac-10 for crying out loud!!! And finally, every team is one injury away from possibly having their NC dreams destroyed, especially if it’s a QB!! I hate to say it, but the one who makes the most sense on this blog is Ramblin Wrecker. The people in Vegas are not saying that UGA is not the best team. They are setting odds of winning the national title. Based on schedule, playing in an overall weaker conference, and having no conference championship game, USC has to be the obvious favorite.

Vegas odds don’t have anything to do with the national media. It’s based on people speaking with their wallets not their hearts, and that’s always a better forecaster than an opinion that doesn’t cost anything. Look at it this way, if you had to bet your house on a team next year, who would you pick? I’m going with USC in that scenario too.

Florida went 9-4 last year, finished tied for fifth in the conference, and didn’t improve a lick on D. The coaching staff imploded once the season was over, and Urban trashed his players in the media.
How that translates to even a top 10 team is beyond me.

Chip, the odds that Vegas put out and the view of the media and coaches are to completely separate entities. I’ve seen 5 pre-preseason polls so far, and the Dawgs have been ranked #1 in 3 of them. What Vegas is trying to do is entice people to place wages with early odds. Talk to us in July-August and lets see where the odds are. Vegas is in the business of making money, not necessarily in predicting polls or champions.

Remember this is still mostly a popularity contest and the oddsmakers know this. They know USC, Gators, Sooners and Buckeyes are more popular with pollsters than UGA or anyone else. UGA will have to be 13-0 to get to Miami and if USC and Oklahoma or OSU and Oklahoma goes undefeated UGA will be like 04 Auburn. ESPN will say UGA opened with 2 patsies and disregard SEC gauntlet and Arizona St. and Tech on schedule.

As in 98% of years past, it’s all just media. usc is always the top love which should be on probation. Oklahoma, Texas and Ohio State are also media dolls and you’ll see Michigan getting the love too as will Florida. Just sit back and watch the season and to heck with the media ratings until it’s over. Georgia will have to hold up it’s end but being as cocky as Florida that will cause a couple of losses due to lack of discipline and taunting. Then you see LSU got three defensive starters back who won’t go to the NFL. I see the SEC as LSU, Georgia (who play this coming season) and then Florida. Coach S. at S. Carolina will cause his couple of upsets. Tennessee will give some folks havoc as will Auburn. I don’t see alabama as doing anything.
Forget the love, I think LSU, Georgai and most of the SEC will hear how great the Conference is but won’t get the real love until the year is almost over.

Let ‘em be ranked number two for all I care. Number two puts them in the National Championship game…and that’s all that matters.

UGA’s motto next yr. needs to be simply “Sweep the East”.
Think about it, Ga hasn’t beat UF and Tenn. in the same yr. since the league divided. I’ve been harpin on this for yrs. as a Big Dawg.
If Ga does this in 08, even with the brutal schedule, I think will be in the championship game. Osama Bin Saban and Sara Jessica will go down in Athens, Tommy T. will fall in the Plains b/c a 5-9 QB running the trendy, fake spread will not get it done, so we drop one in Baton Rouge.
What I don’t like at all about 08 is the fact that we have LSU and FL back to back! Who set that up?
Again, sweep the East and everything will fall in to place.
Gator fan being Gator fan will up until kickoff next yr. in Jax will have in thier mind that Tebow was hurt and that was the only reason they got beat 42-20(I’m not giving Fl that fluke TD on the interception).
So who knows, GA vs. Alabama in a rematch in Atlanta. By that time Osama Bin Saban will be parting his hair on the side and talking like a Southerner, watch out then. For now Saban is a Yankee as much as US Grant. A damn Yankee coaching the Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators (that makes sense actually)!

Vegas deals with Reality, and the reality is that there will probably not be a repeat of this past college football season’s rampant upsets. Hence, looking at the Dawgs brutal schedule along with an SEC championship game thrown in for good measure, they figure no matter how good the Dawgs are, they have the toughest road to the BCS championship game among the top schools in the country. And yes, Chip loses a little credibility with that USC OSU game comment- it will be SoCal not Miami, and Sept, not Jan as mentioned in several other posts.

Preseason rankings are bogus.
Richt will never get the Dawgs to a NC because he doesn’t have the fire or the ability to make the players believe they can do it. This year was a prime example of him not preparing the dawgs to be champions by making them understand that they were playing every game for the title. His low expectations became a self-fulfilling prophecy in the losses and near-loss to Vandy. We might never again see the confluence of events that gave a 2-loss team a shot at the title - a team that should have been us.
Under CMR, I fear we will always be the also-ran team in the nation.

Just keep in mind Tebow doesn’t play defense and the defense gave up 42. After what Michigan did to Tebow their “Tebow was hurt” spill just doesn’t wash.I mean should not a Heisman Trophy QB winner be more than one dimentional and find a way to win, when he gets shut down.Tebow himself told Colt Brannan,Georgia was the best defense he faced all year.Georgia was the better team this year reguardless of TEBOW’S non throwing shoulder’s condition.

I see no reason for anyone to have any resentment or anger towards putting SC or UF above us. Chip cites the main reason as the schedule, which everyone knows UGA may have the toughest schedule of any next year. I hope they can get through it, but who knows long ways away. I’m sure all the pollsters and writers realize how hard it is so if any slipups occur similar to this year, I expect UGA to be given the benefit of the doubt.

It’s arguable that USC could be better, but UGA would win that argument over the season if they can finish the year with only one loss or less, given as they have a significant strength of schedule advantage. How could Florida could be rated over UGA, when looking how the two teams finished the season and the fact that UGA beat Florida?
And Oklahoma is in the Big 12, which is like, the new ACC, or something. So they don’t even count.

I think your dead wrong.CMR has evolved and gotten better every year since he’s been at Georgia.Look how long it took some of the other great coaches in the past to win an NC. Some of the dumb mistakes he made in the past are not happening any more, like the punt against BC with only 1:32 on the clock, the play down on the goal against Auburn when he tried to slip it past AU defense on a run play instead od downing the ball with an incomplete pass to stop the clock. He is learning as a HC and racking up a lot of 10 win or better seasons in the process.Every Dawg has his day and our day is coming, and we’ll have CMR to thank for it.

Until Richt gets a National Championship under his belt he and the poodles don’t deserve the love. Both Caroll and Meyer have a NC under their belt. I about laughed when I read that someone thinks that the Gators won’t have a defense next year. They only lost two starters. They are so STACKED at all postions. With Hill, Finley and some other studs coming in they will only get better. They won’t lose to the poodles two years in a row. I would love to see the poodles ranked preseason #1. The team that is ranked preseason #1 never wins it all. The Gators will win the SEC next year. GO GATORS!!

Why? Because UGA chokes under pressure.

A lot of good discussion here. A few points:
1 — I didn’t say Georgia should have the lowest odds or be ranked No. 1. Just relaying what I found surveying the gambling sites… .
2 — TexasDawg, as stated this discussion is about Georgia getting less love from ODDSMAKERS, not media pundits… .
3 — I think Bob and RamblinWrecker are making the most sense about this. Odds aren’t necessarily set to what oddsmakers think but to what oddsmakers think but to what they think the majority of people think. Based on that it should come as no surprise that USC and Ohio State routinely get lower odds because they traditionally have an easier route to the BCS game. In fact, if there were odds on becoming the BCS game loser I’d think the Buckeyes would be the runaway favorite.

Who cares? The national championship is a mythical popularity contest anyway and has become a complete farce, if it wasn’t all along. Ask the 13-0 Auburn team of ‘04, or the numerous undefeated Penn State teams that have been screwed over the past 40 years. Or the 2002 Georgia team that went 13-1 but was somehow less worthy than the 13-1 LSU team of ‘03, the 13-1 Florida team of ‘06 and the 12-2 LSU team of ‘07.
Think about it…13-0 Auburn not champs in ‘04, 12-2 LSU champs in ‘07. Which team do you think was better? This year, one-loss Ohio State and two-loss LSU were deemed worthy, while a one-loss Kansas team that whipped ACC champ Va. Tech in the Orange Bowl was never given a chance because they lost a conference tie-breaker after finishing tied with Mizzou with the best overall record in the Big X11 at 7-1. Any of this make sense?
Just win the SEC, baby. That’s the only thing the Dawgs can control going into the season. The SEC is so brutal, winning it is award enough. If someone wants to deem you NC after you take care of business in the SEC, then that’s just icing on the cake. But regardless, it will still be mythical.

What kind of crap is this- UGA gets more love than they deserve for a team that hasn’t even played for a national title in 25 years. A quarter decade they are still living off of a 3 year run built on the back of one spectacular running back. They didn’t win a division of thier conference this season and yet when they don’t get the pass school president wants to change the format to suit them.

Oddsmakers don’t care and know who will win the national title. They only care and know about where the betteors will put money. Considering USC and Fla are recent national title winners and get more media attention than UGA, it is an obvious choice to put them ahead of UGA because more money will likely be on them.
Vegas doesn’t predict winners; they predict where the money will be.

You may be right about Logan Gray, Dawggoneit. There were reports out of Athens he was lighting up our defense playing for the scout team, and he was surely highly recruited.
Joe Cox is a proven winner though. I love having a controversy about who the backup quarterback might be.
The point is, I can’t remember a time Georgia has had more talent and depth and proven coaching. Last year we had a lot of question marks - only 3 starters returning on defense and 3 freshmen starting on the offensive line, 2 of them true freshmen.
Who would have predicted we would finish ranked number 2 in the country this year !?!
The 2008 team has no discernible weaknesses and it is still a very young team with redshirt freshmen who have not yet played that are turning heads in practice, more talent coming in, and most important an excellent coaching staff.

Those were a sweet three years, though. Thanks for conjuring up the memories. By the way, Georgia went 10-1-1, won the Cotton Bowl, and finished 4th in the country the year after Herschel left. Just take the Sporting News. First they predicted that Hawaii would defeat UGA. When UGA defeated the Warriors, they wrote that Hawaii wasn’t ready for the big time yet. Could it be that Hawaii was an excellent team that played a great team? The Sporting News belittled the winning streak by pointing out the combined 31 loses of the teams UGA has defeated during the streak. Facts: One of those teams was the defending national champs that destroyed Ohio State. One of those teams defeated this years national champs. Five of those teams played in bowls. Auburn had one of the best defenses in America and defeated Clemson. UK defeated FSU. Tebow was the Heisman Trophy winner. We shut him down. We dropped after two of the three teams ahead of us lost. Why did Ohio State drop? They are the Buffalo Bills of college football. Why? The propaganda machine called ESPN. When did commentators have the right to persuade votes? They have a bias against UGA and the SEC. Kirk what happened to your beloved Ohio State again. Yelp, they lost to the SEC again. Why? The SEC is better than the Big 10. I hope UGA gets to play Ohio State next year for a national title. It would be three in a row. Mark May needs to get a clue. Everyone knows he is a Pitt man. Lou Holtz needs medication. That guy has no loyalty. How many places has he coached at? Robert Smith played at Ohio State as did Kirk Herbstreet or however you spell his name. Corso washed out of coaching many years ago. They are considered experts because: they have big mouths. Why did Sporting News leave Knowshon off the early Heisman list? He is the best returning back in America. They list the LB from Ohio State. It’s a big joke. The SEC is the dominate conference. UGA is the best team heading into next season.

Chip, it’s an interesting discussion but it is way to early. Just a couple of comments to make here.
The Coaching Staff IMO are the guys who made the biggest improvement last year. Richt loosening up a little and letting the players have some fun was the key to letting the “Dawgs” out. The team was young and did mature as the year went on but still no excuse for the South Carolina, UT showing.
A number one ranking and a NC would be great but I belive most of the posters here are realistic enough to know the odds are against us. All I really care about is that we play motivated and up to our potential. Win the games we’re supposed to win like we know what we’re doing. Spurrier said it last year, “who’s afraid to play Georgia”. As much as I dislike Spurrier he was right. That didn’t change until the end of the year. Respect has to be earned over time, not in one year. I believe we should will kick the crap out of UT and SC next year just for revenge. The Gators, LSU, and Auburn should have a healthy respect for us. With a good showing and a little luck you never know what’s possible. Look what happened in 1980.

Here’s just one of the many reasons. If USC, Oklahoma, and Uga all go undefeated, and they are ranked #1, #2 and #3, respectively, all season, then preseason rankings do matter and we can’t just “worry about winning.” We can become the Auburn of 2008 - undefeated and no National Championship game opportunity. That’s just one of the reasons this whole BCS system is a joke.

2 major concerns for next season.
1: There’s not a true Georgia fan (and one who’s actually paying attention and understands football) who still doesn’t have some concerns about Matthew Stafford. His passing accuracy is questionable (it can certainly use significant improvement) and the deep threat is oftentimes nonexistent. 2 Don’t forget about our secondary and Willie Martinez. Don’t let that Hawaii game fool you, our d-line never let Colt get a pass off. Our secondary has been known to blow games BADLY. If Willie were so great, schools would be trying to hire him away. But you don’t see that happening do you? Remember, it was our offense scoring points, not our defensive prowess (save Hawaii) that won most of those final seven games.By Disgruntled Atlanta Sports Fan

If we can somehow get through the schedule with only 1 loss, we will play for the National Title. That being said, I think we might have a better team next year and end up with a worse record. I have faith is CMR, but unless we show that we have a lot more depth, we will wear down like LSU did at the end of this season. Go Dawgs and I hope CMR can keep pleasantly surprising me!!!!

You don’t think USC’s loss to Stanford was a “mental error?” C’mon, you get real. The Dawgs played 12 games and that was the only one they didn’t show up for - fairly referred to as a “mental error.”
Do you think if USC replayed Stanford at the end of the season, they would have lost to Stanford again? And do you really think that if Uga played Tenn again at the end of the seaosn that Uga would lose by 3 TDs? If you do, you’re just saying that to be inflamatory.

Mike T- I never even knew the Dawgs hated Florida until I moved to Atlanta. As far as I was concerned, it was an easy win every year when I was growing up and in college. However, I’ve spent most of my life hating FSU which is the direction Georgia is headed with your black-out, charge-the-field, Bobby Bowden style of play.

It’s not even spring practice yet! The DOGS (spelling) think they are #1 every year and every year get put in check as the season goes along. Be glad the Rose Bowl didn’t select ya’ll to get trounced by USC. USC has more talent. Sorry. You have a good team but not NC material. Remember you didn’t score a touchdown on a South Carolina team that didn’t even go to a bowl game!Thank the BCS gods for letting ya’ll run all over a team that plays on a volcano and does karate before the games! Who really cares where you are ranked at the beginning. It’s how you finish that counts and “GEORGIA” will be on top. Look back at how many number ones got beat this year. Georgia may be better off not being ranked at number one and just stay at number two or three and let the other teams take care of who is number one and when the dust all settle then “Georgia” can claim the National Title. “GO GEORGIA”

You are getting tired of everything UGA? I can’t stand driving by orange barrels on the highway. They remind me of rocky top that mental health song that you guys love so much.
BTW, NOBODY, including the AJC, any of the ESPN a-holes, any of the polls picked UGA to finish #2 this year. Heck I know I didn’t and I can’t recall any of the other posters etc picking us to be #2 starting the 2007 season. So I guess we did “get real”. South Carolina yea you beat us and then your OLE C had to eat his words after you got your a@@es handed to you by Vandy and four other SEC TEAMS 6-6. So for all you people that have ESP please give me the lotto numbers. Because until the games are played and the clock said 0, none of you know whos going to win this season. The record between the two teams is 59 Georgia wins, 38 Georgia Tech wins, and 5 ties. Georgia has currently won seven straight games and along with the 1991–1997 win streak are the longest win streaks for Georgia in the series.
*The Bulldogs have brought home two national championships in their storied history: a shared title in 1942 and a consensus national championship in 1980 (several polls recognized the Bulldogs as national champions in 1927, 1946, and 1968, as well). *

JCSmalls, nice list of coaches you made there. I might be wrong but in some form or fashion as HC or OC Richt coached against and beat that entire list of D1 coaches. I don’t think that Georgia Southern can beat us this year. OUR NEXT VICTIM, aka, Paul Johnson @ Tech will be a threat this year either. Here’s to hoping Richt & Co. can make it through the schedule.
By bull-gator

Me thinks the Dawgs with that schedule will still prevail. They are too talented, experienced, and well coached. In addition, they’ve developed a certain (please excuse this terminology) “swagger” which in reality is confidence that comes with winning. e.g., winning begets winning. With all that said, it will come down to the Cocktail Party and if the Gators haven’t jelled their porous defense, then the SEC East, the SEC and the BCS title are awaiting the Dawgs. Anyway…Go Gators!

The Dawgs are easily the best team in the country going into next season and should be ranked #1. I like the AJC, because the dawgs are the favorite team, and they really give a lot of great press to Richt and UGa, especially Mark Bradley. I think UGA will go 14-0 next year, with the only tough game at LSU. UT and UF won’t have anything next year to challenge UGA. I predict UGA beats USC easily in the Orange Bowl next year for the national title. No way USC can defend Moreno and Stafford, two superstars. UF—look for a blowout—-it could get ugly early—their defense is terrible.

As for the rest of the smack talkers here you won’t hear much smack from me or most of the regulars. I personally read more than I post because it’s ridiculous what some of you people put on this blog and I refuse to even acknowledge your pathetic existence. I believe a lot of the regulars would support me on this, we’ve watched the Dawgs a long time and realize what we have now, and for the next few years is going to be special. It’s great to have been a Dawg the past 38 years, and it’s going to be great to watch the next few years. All smack talking/ribbing/kidding(ha) aside, the dogs have good odds of being in the title hunt, if they show up for all games. You have to factor in the buckeyes chances as being good odds as well, especially considering they are returning 18/19. The Sooners are good odds based upon their offense, which could be one of the best in the country. I know, they cannot win a BCS game, but it is 2008, and we all are playing what if. The trogans keep reloading every year. It should be a good year for a number of teams. I wish they were lining up to kickoff this weekend. All of this speculating is making me bleeeeeat!!

Chip I find it interesting that Vegas has the Dawgs behind Florida and USC,then again when you consider the point you made about the route to the Championship being easier for them,it makes a lot more sense.
Georgia DOES NOT NEED TO CONCERN THEMSELVES WITH THAT what they need to do is continue to improve, learn the system, play to their abilities and most of all STAY HEALTHY (sorry for yelling) and everything else will fall into place.
There is no advantage to having your name thrown around all the time BEFORE you win a Championship.Who cares what everyone thinks,it’ll be that much sweeter when we systematically teardown everyones dreams week by week. I’d much rather hear the sour grapes from the losers all year then to have a heap of expectations put on me before the season starts. KEEP the chip on your shoulders and instead of “believing the hype” think about how losing badly to Tennessee had cost you a chance to beat LSU and thus a Championship. Think about dropping in the standings after putting up all those late season wins, while OSU sat idle for the longest and actually gained from it.Think about the two dropped touchdowns in the S. Carolina game that would’ve given us the SEC east and put us in the Championship game. Think about how hard next season is going to be and how we’re going to stomp the heart out of Tennessee for last year and how big the “Cocktail ” game is going to be and how we finally get a chance to show the world how badly we would’ve made LSU look if we only had the chance and finally think about stomping out the that burning brown crap filled paperbag on their doorstep which is Alabama. Hit the books ,hit the weight room and stay focused on FINISHING THE DRILL it doesn’t end until sometime the second week of January 2009!!!

JustCurious, Georgia finished ranked number two in the nation this year. How did your team do?
UGAg, it has been so long since Tech has beaten Georgia you have become very confused. Has Tech won this millenium? No. That means Georgia has something called bragging rights over Tech. Which in turn means the only right a Tech fan has is to STF up until you beat us. Then and only then you get to have bragging rights. Otherwise all you are doing is showing the poor sportsmanship of a chronic loser.
For example, you speak in pejorative terms about the Outback Bowl. Do you not see how stupid that is coming from the fan of a team that lost in Boise this year?
Incidentally, the second ranked Dawgs won the SUGAR Bowl this year.

Well,
I don’t care about that. I think you did that to get the haters on here. All of the UGA haters on here need to look at this. 1. UGA had a great young team the past football season. 2. If you think UGA is losing to Tennessee, Arizona State, and Florida. You are stupid. 3. Unless Florida’s defense can get better, UGA will blow them out. 4. Tennessee fans, enjoy next year’s 6-6 season with an Independence Bowl trip. 5. I think that Arizona State will be worse next season not better. 6. Any Georgia Tech fans on here saying that UGA is UGAy or THUGA need to look down: 1. If I’m right the SEC is usually known for stunts like what UGA did this year. 2. The Georgia Tech fans on here are just jealous of UGA. The schedule for UGA is brutal next year but, if they can stay focused they can pull off a 14-0 season. The ESPN UGA haters really just need to quit because the SEC will continue its dominance next year.

The rankings try to rank the best teams regardless of schedule. The odds rank who has the best shot of winning it all- which takes schedule very much into account. Vegas isnt saying we arent the best team, they are just saying we have the hardest path to get there (we do, at ASU, LSU, etc.)
To the previous poster, if you lived outside the South, you would realize UGA’s national recognition in both football and academics is increasing drastically- especially in the midatlantic and northeast.

usc would naturally be the betting man’s choice.they play in the second home of ALL the national media, meaning they get a lot of attention and draw big bucks for the bookies.they have a good coach that has been there before.they are loaded with talent, and they have a soft schedule.as a bonus they don’t have to risk blowing it all in a pac 10 championship game.uf and oklahoma being rated so highly is another matter.i watched both in their bowl games and was not impressed.i don’t know what the sooner’s problem is but they have blown two bcs bowl games in a row to lesser teams.uf’s problem is another matter, poor defense,no running game and an offense that the better dcs are begining to solve.uf has a good rb coming in,but do they have the tes and fbs to block for him?even more important, their best de is turning pro,how will they stop anybody this year?urban will have to make major changes next year to turn this program around, the most difficult will be within himself.all that being said,i would prefer to begin the season at number three.everyone will be gunning for us anyway, why make it worse?

Amazing - weren’t one of those talkin up the WAC and HI before before the sUGAr bowl - We beat the only undefeated team in the country - Did your team do that??? That’s right too scared to tell us who your team is. Sounds like you like Idaho since it sounds like you vaction there. Talk about lucky, look at LSU how many lucky breaks, bounces, and last minute wins did they have - and lost 2 games - how did they deserve to play for the BCSC??? Luck I’d say..

there’s no love for the South in the rest of the country. they mostly cling to their ignorant belief that everybody here is related to Jed Clampett. we’re not taken serious because of that, but also because the only dynasty we’ve had around here are the Braves, baseball, and their the best team ever at winning second place. it’s hard to be consistent in a tough conference like the SEC for the Bulldogs, where every team will most likely have a loss by the end of the season. so dynastys are hard. then, if it doesn’t happen in the Northeast or California, the sports media doesn’t seem to care. ESPN is a great example of that. shows like PTI had our GM hiring at the end with little to say about it. and ESPN Classic, we can watch the same games over and over again for New York, LA, Chicago, Boston, or Notre Dame, USC, Ohio State, Michigan…but when you see a team from Georgia playing we’re on the losing side, with exception to one Herschel game. but where is the coverage on ESPN Classic for the 98’ Falcons vs. Vikings game? or anything from Tech’s National Championship year? and when Dominique was with the Hawks, they show the game they lose to Boston, please! I put some of it on the laid back fans too, you don’t get respect from other folks by building a dome in the South, sitting in the seat most of the game and having a battle cry of ‘maybe next year!’ (i.e. Falcons). too many people there act like they are at a tennis match. and the fact that so many people here grew up somewhere else doesn’t help either. until one or two of our teams have a dominant dynasty, something similar to USC or the Patriots, the sports media will not give us much credit or attention. where is ESPN located? Conn. where do most sports writes live? the Northeast, Chicago, LA. they only care about what happens in their back yards. and whining, let’s talk about the whining, there has been a tremendous amount of whining with UGA, that will not earn respect of any kind. got to go out and kick butts consistently for a few years in your division, like LSU, Ohio State and USC, whatever can be said about who they play, it’s about how YOU play, nothing else. the Bulldogs need to start next year like they ended this year, not cruise in the early part of the season like some athletes think they can do today. without a playoff system, it’s a popularity contest left up to judges. you can’t give judges a chance to steal your season. in a playoff system, teams can gel over time, like the ‘98 Falcons, but not in the BCS. you have to play in Sept. and Oct.! and for all the calls for a playoff system by UGA, think about it, you got #2 this year, but if their had been a playoff system, you would not have even been eligible to go to the playoffs, no conference win, no division win. so why all the whining, you made out like bandits!

If the Bulldogs had USC’s easy Patsy Coast schedule we’d be the heavy favorites to win it all. An easy PAC10 regular season schedule, no conference championship game and only one tough BCS game = recipe for National Champion. If UGA gets there they’ll have earned it though and I wouldn’t want to be the school that has to face them!! Go Dogs!!

UGA will not only win all their games in ‘08 but dominate every game. The difference will be the lesson we learned in Knoxville this year. Coach Richt and all the players knew we were a far superior team talent wise, but the emotional edge was lacking. Things are VERY different now that the team will be fired up for EVERY game and I can’t wait to destroy UT, South Carolina, UF, and everyone else that stands in our way next year, the year of the dawg!

I first think you guys need to look at where your program is at and what you’ve sacrificed for it.You guys are not Uga but THUGA thats right every time you read the news its there breaking the law, dui and thats not including the stuff swept under the rug.Georgia used to be a class program I guess richt who coached at florida state brought more with him than himself he brought the fla state criminole approach and now look where that program is .I wouldnt give a squirt of p** to be a seminole if given a scholarship offer . And Georgia is in the same class as them. I am a big tennessee fan and you guys weren’t even competitive with us . south carolina even beat you and that program is cursed . You guys want to cry about not having a shot don’t get owned by us and get beat by an average team like south carolina .I have a good friend who is an Auburn fan he said he noticed that Georgia team was just mocking and trash talking and dancing on the field and sidelines how a flag was not thrown i saw that game with one of my friends the fans weren’t much better as an open conatainer in athens on your way to the stadium is like having your bible going to church with these classles hicks…… Bottom line is you have big problems at THUGA WHAT hypocrisy make that movie with richt in it facing the giants and then what is showed un his field under his command certainly not any of the things like humility and class show in that movie .prediction you lose to lsu tennessee alabama florida and auburn oh yeah Very classy the day after lsu wins in the toughest confrence the sec the natonal championship adams comes out and undermines how they won it > I guess given the current THUGA attitude theese days shouldnt be surprised .

Oddsmakers do not predict outcomes. They predict betting patterns.
In other words, setting USC at 3-1, Florida at 6-1, and Georgia at 10-1 does not imply they expect those teams to finish in that order. They expect those odds to generate the largest profits for them.

just think about if Georgia had exactly, Charles C, what if Georgia had played Kansas or West Virginia or Missouri during the regular season, of course during November of the regular season when they woke up, just think what playing one of those teams during the regular season and winning, instead of somebody like Troy or even Miss or Miss State, would have done for Georgia’s National Championship aspirations. a lot. Georgia does need more exposure, and maybe less SEC teams on their schedule, mix it up a bit. play Boston College, play Notre Dame, play Louisville. if those other conferences can be exposed, like everyone says, expose them, and get some good advertisement too!

Even Vegas knows that the Dawgs lose a close one in Jacksonville and Baton Rouge. You can’t repeat against UF they are too good. And the schedule is the result of the loss in Baton Rouge. Furthermore you don’t make the SEC title game…Again (Florida does)and the Dawg Pound goes into melt down. The writing is on the wall, Richt is not a closer. Evidenced by the way he and his team laid down to die when behind to a very over ranked UT. Say what you want but USC et al have a better shot because they play cup cakes.

UGA’s schedule next year looks alot like LSU’s this year and the only thing that will hold UGA back is UGA or another S.E.C. team that wants it worse. LSU’s schedule was brutal this year with the number of ranked teams they played especially since 4 of them were in a row. My Sports Vent says it ll about Ohio state though - How do you make Buckeye Cookies? You put them i a bowl, let them rise for 10 minutes then beat the for 3 hours. I love that Les Miles let players play in the 4th quarter that nomall wuldn’t have played so they could say they played in the game that made LSU #1 instead of running the score up on OSU. By the way, I hope anyone laughing about academics in the South was paying attention to Ohio State’s flag carriers that came out on the field after half time spelling it O-O-H-I!

6-6 Gator, thanks for comparing Georgia to FSU. Getting called thugs by Florida fans is amusing. Did you see how your boys behaved themselves before the Michigan game? To act like that, and then get your a$$ handed to you by a slow Big 10 school that lost at home to Appy State…priceless.
And of course, we had the geography-challenged-Gator-turned-NY-Giant make an inane comment before the Giants-Dolphins game in London a few months back.

It really does not matter which position in the top 5 we are rated next year. Obviously, if the dogs win out, then they go to the big game. We all know the schedule is difficult and that is a good thing! The game at ASU, for example, will shut the talk down about any refusal to venture out of conference. Georgia has always done better when they respect their opponents, not when they think they should win just because they show up.
The big reason that I have hope with such a tough schedule is difficult to put into words. It is as though the flood gates were opened when they took that celebration penalty in Jacksonville. I know that sounds crazy… but I really feel that this team has turned a corner. They may lose… but they must be beaten by an opponent. They will not choke and beat themselves as they have done in the past.
There is a fire in the hearts of this team. That is the culture in Athens now, and you can bet that their opposition knows it. To beat this team, somebody is going to have to bring their very best and then get a little lucky.
After this past season, everyone knows that anything can happen. The best indicator will be the game against South Carolina. They need to stomp on Spurrier after last year. He has played on the insecurities of the UGA program for a long time. That is his genius. It is time to rub his nose in it. That game will tell us a lot about how ready the team is for a run at the title.

We are 8th in wins ALL TIME ahead of Oaklahoma, Georgia, LSU, Southern Cal, Auburn, Florida, West Virginia … We are 2nd ALL TIME in SEC Championships behind only Alabama. We are 4th ALL TIME in bowl wins behind only Alabama, Southern Cal, and Penn. State. We are tied for 2nd ALL TIME in bowl appearances with Texas. If we learned anything from 2006 and 2007, it’s take it one game at a time. I hope that the underclassmen think hard about that from now until the end of August. This is what the off season feels like when you have a great team but don’t take care of business against the gamecocks and the Vols. You remember that little fiasco Tennessee had against Cal.That’s how we view our loss to the Vols. Flat and not ready to play. That said ya’ll did win but it was our worst game of the season.Dawgs and Vols play after Nov 1.Georgia would have clobbered Tennessee.Too bad Vandy could have sealed the deal and we could have taken care of LSU. Also if you check Georgia ranks in the top ten in total number of all time victories.

No Cutie, You need to check your facts. Don’t take my word for it. Go to the college data warehouse and look it up. Michigan has never beaten Tennesse, Ohio State has never beaten Tenn., Wisconsin has never beaten TENN., Michigan State has never beaten Tenn., Northwetsern has never beaten Tenn. As a matter of fact, the only Big Hen schools that have ever beaten Tenn. in history are Penn State 3-1 and Purdue 1-0 in 1979. I was at the Purdue game. It was the Legendary Johnny Majors first year back at his Alma Matr after winning NC at Pitt with Tony Dorsett. The Big Ten Sucks.

Those Vegas guys have an uncanny ability to predict games even down to the points.
Next seasons’ schedule is one of the toughest of all college teams. But even if they trip once (maybe twice?)I think they’ll have a good shot for 3 reasons;
This may become a National Rivalry - The SEC vs All Other Conferences!

The reason UGA doesn’t get “the love” from the national media is because they see how the local media (which should be “homers” for UGA) writes negative articles, digs up mickey mouse traffic violations (wrong way on a one way street of all things) about the players, and continually second guesses any/every move by our coaches (see any/every Terrence Moore article). Instead of kicking the DAWGS at every opportunity, try praising them like the rest of the national media does their own local teams. Don’t you (AJC) realize that you’re the laughing stock of the rest of the national media? That’s why there is no respect for ANY sporting team in the state of Georgia - did you ever stop to think about that?

Cutie, Here are your errors: You stated that Michigan beat Tenn. We have only played Michigan once and beat the hell out of them 45-17 in the citrus bowl in 2002. You stated that we have trouble finishing seasons but there are only 3 teams that have won more bowl games in the history of college football than Tennesse (Ala., USC, Penn State). You asked me what the Cal score was in 2007. It was 45-31 Cal. a 14 point loss. The kicker is that we beat Ga. 35-14 a 21 point difference in 2007. In order words, we beat Ga. worse than Cal beat us. You probably won’t admit it but Ga’s last TD against Tenn. was a gift from the refs because we intercepted the ball in the endzone on your final scoring drive during garbage time but the ref chose to see it different and gave you the ball back and you eventually scored your final 7 points as time expired. Had it not been for that last gift we would have beaten you by 28 points. But it doesn’t matter. We will give you that TD. We certainly dont want to make you look too bad. We want you to continue to play us? LOL.
Tenn is 11-5 all time against the big 10. We are 2-3 against Penn St., 1-1 against Iowa, 0-1 against Purdue. We are 8-0 against the rest of them. Ga. is 7-2 against the Big 10 but Penn St. was not a member of the big 10 at that time as Mike T. Correctly stated.
Tenn. is 21-15 all time against Ga. with 4 times as many national championships, more bowl appearances, more bowl wins, more SEC championshps, more all time wins, and a higher all time winning %.
Ga. is a good team but they are simply not UT good. I am sorry if this is not what you want to hear but it is the truth.
Peace

Ohiostatebuckeye, Your HawaiioState Buckeyes have never beaten Tennessee. They are just like Hawaii and never play anybody thereby compiling 10-0 records by beating up on the girl scouts and the brownies but in the end when they finally have to play a real team in the bowl games they get punished. That is why they are 0-9 in bowl games against the SEC.
Why are you predicting what Ga. will do to Tenn. and South Carolina? Are you bitter because South Carolina has beaten you twice in this decade in Bowl games while you have never beaten them. Are you bitter because we punished your Eddie George team in the bowl game? You scrubs are in no position to even join in a conversation with real teams. I feel so sorry for you.

honestly, I believe that LSU (or any other national champion for that matter) deserves the number one spot in a poll if they are defending a championship, its only fair. As for the #2 Spot, UGA deserves that hands down. Oklahoma is coming off a loss, and Florida! really? are you kidding? 9-4 record and we beat them 42-30. Georgia returns all of their best players, most of them being freshman and sophmores the recent year, and should be able to prove on the field (with the toughest schedule in the country) that they are number 1.

As many have pointed out the odds makers do not say who they think is the best team is but rather who has the most likely chance of getting to the NC game.
Also many have pointed out the UGA schedule is extremely tough.
The keys for UGA to make it are pretty simple. First the defense will need to improve. We have got to stop UF’s offense, UT’s offense had a good run against us, not to mention Troy. The D has to be focussed for all the games. Second, Matt Stafford has to become a better QB. He has not lived up to the hype so far. He has one of the strongest arms around. He improved from his freshman year, but needs to improve even more between his So and Jr year. Especially in %completions. Keep the turnovers down. The receivers have to step up as well and become more of a threat. Overall, the passing game has to improve. The strength is in the running game with Moreno and hopefully King will be as good as advertised. Another area of concern is the kicking game. We have got to have a solid kicking game. Finally, we have got to score TD in the red zone. If we do these things we should be a solid contender. We must FINISH THE DRILL!!! Start focussing now DAWGS!!! Work harder in the Matt drills, work harder in your personal off season work outs. Don’t be stupid during the off season!!! This is your year to prove yourselves!!!
GO DAWGS!!!

dawgman: Precisely BECAUSE that’s the first game of the year, smart fella. Regardless of what happens in that game, if they’re the No. 1 and No. 2 teams at the end of the year, they’ll play in the BCS championship game. Understand now? If not I’ll help you spell it out with a couple of simple questions: How many BCS teams went undefeated this past season? OK. And which two BCS conferences do not have a conference championship games? Got it? Now then, can you understand why most oddsmakers have Southern Cal (3-1) and Ohio State (6-1) with the lowest odds of making the BCS title game… . Got any more name-calling to do?

usc trojans,
You are retarded. First off, people in Georgia are not “hillbillys” that “are dumb as hell.”
Second, you want to start with overrated? Who lost to Stanford?
Third, I wouldn’t call Georgia a pathetic football program. Every year they are an elite football team in the SEC, the most difficult conference in the naiton. Mark Richt has also coached the Bulldogs to one of the best records in the country over the past 10 years.
Fourth, you’re completely wrong about UGA’s ranking.
Fifth, who cares if there is only one major city in the state? Why the hell does that matter? It’s a college for Christ’s sake. What, do you think we would be proud to host a bunch of hippies, drugged out movie stars, and a ton of gays?
Sixth, we’ve won a NC in the last 30 years, as well as several SEC titles. Put your team in the SEC and then we’ll talk.
And last, it does not suck to be a Dawg. It’s actually one of the greatest feelings in the world.
Stay classy usc trojans, and good luck next season.

UGA will be high enough to get into the BCS title game if they run the table or lose 1 game. Being preseason #1 is a poisoned chalic. It affects the psychology of the players - much to lose every week. Also, Fla, Ten, Aub, LSU will not be intimidated by playing top ranked UGA - they will fancy their chances of knocking off number 1. Dogs are better off ranked 3 behind USC and Oklahoma. The schedule is tough enough to catapult them to number 1 if they perform on the field.

Auburn fan here- UGA has a great team and has all the tools to win it all, but they will have an uphill battle to get to the MNC game. The national bias for USC and the Big 10 notwithstanding, they will have to go undefeated to assure themselves of a chance of getting to play in the big game. As we all know that isn’t even a guarantee with the weak schedules and conferences that USC, Ohio St and Joklahoma, play in. They always will have the edge because its infinitely easier to go undeated in those conferences than it is in the SEC. Any team in the SEC can beat you if you don’t play up to your potential and there isn’t another conference in the country that can say that. All I can say is good luck and I can’t wait for the second Saturday in November. I hope we’re both undefeated.

If USC has no more players declaring for the NFL, then they should be a pre-season # 1…After all the NFL says they have 10-12 first round draft choices for 2009 draft on their roster…But it’s all pre-season hype now…Why doesn’t UGA schedule a home and away series with USC and OSU, then no one can doubt their credentials come BCS time…Lets face it the college presidents are never going to sanction a valid playoff like they have in 1AA, Div II, and III…that makes to much sense….But we will see 8-9 SEC schools in bowls, and the coffers of those schools will be a little fatter, and they can say they went to a bowl….I guess that makes everyone happy?

The only team in the country that can possibly match up with UGA next year is USC, and they don’t have the defense to stop Moreno and Stafford. When they play in the title game, I think UGA wins that game by 10-12 points, easy. UGA is going to be the team to beat in the U.S. in the next few years, with all the talent they have and are bringing in.

Georgia needs to prove they can win the SEC before they worry about BCS championships. This year they were third! By the way,Georgia will have the same QB that lost to Tennessee, South Carolina and should have lost to Vandy. Goodness, this team struggled against Troy. The pollsters know if Tebow is healthy, odds are, they will lose to Florida. Only a fool would bet against that. In the meantime, they should worry about the Arizona State game, a rare Bulldog non conference road game. But then again, Dawg fans think early losses don’t count, but the wins do. Dawg fans are particularly impressed with wins over such power houses as Hawaii which in their minds should put the Dawgs number one next year. I am willing to wait and see. Hell, this year they couldn’t even beat South Carolina.

Mr. Dawg’s predition: mark it down
UGA goes 13-1, beats Texas for the national title in Miami. The only loss: Az State, early, in an upset, when UGA’s flat and overconfident. After that loss, Richt gets them fired up again like the UF game last year, and they coast to an easy SEC title with easy wins over UT, UF, LSU and Auburn, and then a 13 point win over Texas. Make your bets baby—it will happen.

I don’t care if USC or UF get more preseason love than UGA. The only thing that matters is getting through Spring and Fall practice healthy and ready to take on a daunting schedule.
Memo to Vol fans: How many games did you lose this year and what bowl did you go to? You beat us head-to-head, but the FACT is we had a better season. Period.
Memo to everyone else: Give it a rest will ya. UGA had an outstanding season. FACT. Finished the season with seven straight victories (second highest winning streak in college football) and a #2 AP ranking. FACT. Beat Florida. FACT. Beat Auburn. FACT. Beat Alabam.a FACT. Beat an undefeated team Mark May thought would beat us in the Sugar Bowl. FACT.
Will we return a very solid core group of players in ‘08? YES. Do we have a bear of a schedule? Yes. Do most intelligent fans think we’ll go undefeated? NO. Can we make a run at the title with this team? YES. Everything else is HOT AIR.

Who cares what the odds are or what people are saying? Georgia and Florida are going to have to play so it will be settled then (and hopefully the Dawgs can avoid other SEC roadblocks).
I transferred from UGA to Ohio State, and I admit the Buckeyes had a soft schedule this year, but the system nominated them for the championship. Believe me, the players all looked stoked after winning the Michigan game with prospects of going to the Rose Bowl, but the fact that other teams couldn’t take care of their business let us sneak in.
Either way, I see two games as being incredibly important for next season’s championship picture: Ohio State at USC (so much for Tressel padding that schedule) and Georgia Florida (potentially a huge game, because SEC teams deserve to have one loss and still get in). But Bradford and Oklahoma look really good, too. I think next year’s going to be a great year for college football.

perennial power - USC - the 10/15 years before P(ch)ete Carroll got there they were losing 3-4 games a year in a bad conference. Now with P(ch)ete Carroll they go 10-2 in a bad conference. The only reason they are a so called perennial power is because of the media bias and ESPN. That is why ND is a perennial power. And OSU playing weak schedules can make you a perennial power with todays media.

It is not how you “leave”, but how you “arrive”.PRESEASON POLLS ARE IRRELEVENT!!
If Georgia:
A-Continues to develop mentally/emotionally/physically during the winter “mat drills”, and into the spring with toughness and fundamentals- potential is unlimited;
B-I have not been a Stafford fan, because of the velocity on the ball. If he continues to improve as in the final half of the season-will possibly reach his potential-maybe? Will be much better in the NFL, than in college.
C-O-Line, what can you say. If these guys continue to improve and with the quality of the players “Shirted”, we could have 6/7 players of NFL quality-If you truly love football this will be greatly appreciated!!!
Forget the polls,1-practice;1-mat drill; 1-game at a time.
All that matters is the final ranking. Georgia will be much better than FSU in their prime, MR, is working his magic.
What we are seeing is “very special”, WHAT A PROGRAM!!!
NC’s are rare, be appreciative!!!

I have an idea. Since football season is many months away, why not let UGA and Smokey settle this. We can let them fight it out and the winner’s school can be declared 2008 SEC champs. Bragging on the outcome of the two mascots fighting makes just as much sense to me as you clowns breaking out the champagne 8 months before the season even starts simply because some bozo’s opinion says that you are preseason favorites. Geez!
I would put my money on smokey kicking the crap out of that mutt UGA by the way. What a pathetic flea bag. He needs ice bags to lay on and an airconditioned dog house to survive the heat. Talk about in-breeding! Ga. copied the idea of a dog mascot from Tennessee by the way. Smokey was around before UGA.

Apparently you cant read. There are countless people on this thread celebrating Ga.’s inevitable NC next year idiotically based upon a preseason poll released 8 months before the start of football season. If you are unable to read, find someone with an IQ over 100 and have them read it to you. As for inserting objects into bodily orifices, I dont think that I would find any pleasure in that. As pointed out on this blog before the NCG, as long as any Dawg losses are two or less and come in OT, we will still be golden. This is due to the new rule in D-1A, set forth by Les Miles. Wins are wins, losses are losses, but losses in overtime are now called “Leses”. A “Les” is just as good as a win, so come BCS time, a team with 10 wins an 2 “Leses” is practically undefeated and therefore should be selected for the title game!
By Atlanta Gator

Dawgs, the preseason ranking just don’t matter. If your kids start the season ranked in the top 10 in both major polls, and proceed to win all 12 regular season games (including a brutal 8-game SEC murderer’s row) plus the SEC championship game, I will bet dollar to doughnuts that the Dawgs will be playing for the national championship. Lose one regular season game, probably not. Lose the SEC championship game, definitely not. Of course, the same thing applies to the Gators, Vols and Tigers if they win all 12 of their games plus the SECCG, too.
The tough SEC schedule only works for your team if they win out. LSU’s two-loss championship season was a freak not likely to be repeated again in the absence of an 8-team playoff. That’s the reality.
BTW, if another no-loss or one-loss Big Ten team makes the national championship game only to get their head handed to them on the field, I hope the other Division I football conferences go ahead with a 4 or 8-team playoff without the Big Ten, Pac-10 and Rose Bowl. If you can’t walk the walk, can the talk. Enough is enough.

Matt T, there you go again! You used the incorrect form…. You used “your” instead of “you’re”.
My name is not Matt(Learn to read)
Well well, we got a hillbilly grammar teacher here. Hey teach, put this a on the top of your chalk board. Tennessee will get their butt kicked by UGA come next fall. So Volman why don’t you go find a grammar blog,or grade some papers and forget about “talkin football”. Don’t bother to responded because I don’t have anything I want to discuss with you.Hopefully others on this blog will ignore you also. All you are concerned with is making trouble.

Mike T:
I have news for ya. Yes, you guys beat us soundly no doubt, but it was not that loss that kept us from advancing. It was the loss to South Carolina that stuck a fork in us. So don’t fool yourself.
Dave, I can’t figure out your post.Who do you pull for? I’m a Die hard Georgia fan.Who do you pull for?Going back and looking at some of your prior post,it appears you are a Dawg fan. If you are a Florida fan,the Gators defeated SC,so did Tennessee,if your talking about the Dawgs then we pull for the same team.Sometimes in my posts I take others comments copy them to post and then respond.I’m baffled. Please respond.

DANIELSON IS ANOTHER DUMB JOCK JUST LIKE KIRK HERBSTREIT !!! Anyone who believes UGA is not at least a top five team is jealous or stupid. We do have a tough schedule and it will be hard to win every game we play, but a preseason #6?

Matt T, yeah..I said Matt.
Please do not try to justify your miserable grammar and broken English because you’re “talkin’ footbawl”. That doesn’t justify a thing. English is English. Learn it.
“Don’t bother to responded because I don’t have anything I want to discuss with you.”
Don’t bother to responded? Case in point. You’re a dolt. What are you, a 13 year old boy?

Atlanta Gator, finally a sane poster. Happy New year. My thoughts exactly, don’t lose then you can complain. Can’t tell you how happy your Gators made the Michigan faithful. Beating Florida AND sending off Lloyd “Ambien” Carr made for a happy new year.

Ga. copied the idea of a dog mascot from Tennessee by the way. Smokey was around before UGA.
We may have copied someone’s idea of having a live mascot, but it wasn’t Tennessee. You have got be out of your mind to think that skinny blue tick hound, would have any chance at all if UGA got them jaws into that mutt. You know why a bulldog nose slopes back?So it can breath and stay firmly locked onto its prey.Any idiot knows a bulldog is more of a threat than a Blue Tick yard dog.I know if I walked around a corner into a dark alley,I much rather see a blue tick hound than a bulldog.

gdawg~zoo——Happy New Year, back at ya, pal.
Please let your Wolverine neighbors know that we Gators were REALLY happy to give ol’ Lloyd a nice send-off. Ouch.
I suppose now that Florida is basketball school, I shouldn’t take these things to heart so much. LOL

Good lordy children! At least these UGa fans are acting up in their own backyard. However silly they look, at least its family. I can’t imagine what excuse a rival fan would have to be in here and look this childish.
Came we talk about something besides nana nana boo booo??????
How’s this question posed in my circle of bulldawgs buddies just recently: Why would you realy need a TE coach? Realizing it is a hybrid position, but couldn’t the o-line coach, and the WR coach handle that? Seems redundant. I’d rather spend the salary on a full time QB coach. At least that’s is unique position, not to mention critical.
No homophibic, 7th grade responses please.

zoo, Lloyd “Ambien” Carr is really funny, still laughing. I believe no team in the SEC will go undefeated 2008. I dont know if # 2 teams and so many rank teams stirred away from wins or PARITY set in 2007. UGA will be top of the line, but has those let down loses last three years.Auburn and LSU will go neck and neck in West, only problem is Auburns schedule. UGA has several test with SC, LSU, Arizona State and Auburn on the road.Teams will be more aggressive with UGA because as I stated “top Dog in SEC”.

ATL Gator, There were reports that Carr actually woke up at some point in that game. You know he has spent the last few years sleeping with his eyes open on the sidelines.
Speaking of being a basketball school, the buzz up here is that the Bulls want to sent Noah back to Gainesville. Yes, I am jealous that UF has two NC’s in the roundball. UGA still working on the program but I do like that Felton takes charge and makes the kids hold up their end of the bargain. BACK TO FOOTBALL, Rodriguez is getting a boat load of love sent to him from WVU. One thing after another. They are trying to put the “$aban and Petrino” labels on him.
Altadawg, Milner, Pope, Watson, Wiggins, and McMichael called and wanted to express their gratitude for your input on the importance of the TE position. Meet them at the Varsity. And Watson said he would be late he has a game this weekend.

Hey great point. Maybe the fact that we have had such great TEs is because we have a specific position coach for that. Johnson clearly knew what he was doing, (but he is moving on to be an O’line coach isnt he, which is my point) And I’d never downplay the importance of that position. Obviously for us, its huge. But here is the deal………is that not an offensive lineman? that catches a few passes? We dont have a fullback coach, we dont have a middle linebacker coach. Or a left tackle coach. And maybe those comparison are not exaclty fair, but we have a OC splitting time as a QB coach, but an O’line coach can’t handle the dude lined up on the end? Just looking around, I see that not everyone has staff dedicated and some others split the responsibilities. I’m just wondering if we are going to replace or shift.

I don’t think I have given any grammar lessons! Matter of fact,I think it was me that said this was a blog to talk football.Vol man is the one who wants to turn this into a promotional for Sylvan.I have nothing else to say to him because all he wants to do is make trouble, and talk about things totally unrelated to football.

Most interesting to me is Volman’s repeated use of the word “Dolt”. This is an archaic word, rarely used in the English language unless in an attempt to make the user feel more intelligent than the subject. Some people need the ego boost of feeling intellectually superior to their peers, and indeed more articulate.
So Volman, there is your grammar and psychology lesson for the day. Put that in your corncobb pipe and smoke it… Nutsack.
P.S.- Tennessee sucks.

While it would be nice to be preseason #1, it really doesn’t matter until you play the games. Someone should put up a sign in the Dawgs locker room the says, “Remember that feeling from December. TCB boys.” Go Dawgs!

Dawgs will Lose, I think you are an Auburn fan, comment cancelled. Nick tell us who your team is before posting that.
Dear knelson, Are you not forgetting UGA has a break next season before Tennessee and that really does make a difference in college football? Tebow, oops I meant Florida does have a defense but, that defense is poor and has not improved. THAT IS THE REASON WHY UGA AND MICHIGAN EXPOSED FLORIDA! IF Florida’s defense doesn’t improve Moreno and Co. will probably torch them for another 40 or so. My prediction is: UGA zips through their schedule with only one scare (Florida but UGA wins) wins the SEC and goes to the B(C)S Championship gane. After UGA wins the BCS Championship game, the B(C)S formula will be changed in an effort to keep SEC teams out of the championship because, the champion would be just a rotating SEC team.

USC and UF getting more “love” than the Dogs…so what else is new? They get more love than most teams anyway. Why? Because the media is biased.

It no longer matters what any other school does. It no longer matters what anyone says. UGA has become legit and that territory comes with pressure. But, pressure doesn’t matter. It didn’t matter when red morphed to black and the Dawgs spanked Auburn all over Sanford Stadium. It didn’t matter when given a bowl with nothing to gain- our beloved Bulldogs destroyed the nation’s only undefeated squad. It doesn’t matter 8 months away. It won’t matter 1 day away. These Dawgs leave the tunnel hungry, fearless, and angry. Everywhere they turn, someone says “Over-rated, not man enough, can’t finish their precious drill.” Well, none of that matters, because 2008/9 is the year of THE NATIONAL CHAMPION GEORGIA BULLDOGS!!!!D@— right, I Believe!
